“but kurama does something similar. he” is completely mad. “pours his own memories directly into my mind, mixes his thoughts with my dreams.” kurama would sharpen his fangs and talons with menma’s bones if he could, continuing to oppress him until something in his just snaps but menma fights it day after day. he’d fought it when he woke up this morning and he’ll fight it after this conversation, he’s sure of it, just like how he’ll fight it tomorrow and for the rest of his life.

Just Breathe

Broken, and battered. Crushed, and unable to move. He’d been unresponsive for days, lost to the inner confines of his own mind. As far as anyone could tell, he was fully unaware of his surroundings. Nothing reached his mind, not the presents on his bedside table, or the beeping of the monitors making sure he was still alive.

 War with Kumogakure and Kirigakure had thrust many great Ninja in to the heat of battle, and as times became desperate, Konoha had decided it best to unleash him, set him loose upon their enemies and quite honestly, he hadn’t disappointed. He’d clashed with the Eight-Tails, and though no sign of the opposing Jinchuriki could be found, he was hauled back in this sorry state. Laid out after some grand fall.

He could still feel the wind rushing around him, his dark hair blowing back as he plummeted in to the unknown depths, the darkness spread out as far as his eyes could see. He was... falling? No. He was fighting, too. He could remember, now.

His spiritual body tucked out of the way quickly, pulling his arms and legs in so that he slipped between the grating claws that slashed at him from the darkness, and with the momentum that tuck brought he spun, right leg kicking out to slam his heel down on the back of the Black Fox’s head. They both hit the bottom at the same time, the shocking blow sending both of them scattered in opposite directions. The Nine Tails was to his feet first.

“INSOLANT CHILD!” Kurama bellowed, leaping at the prone young man only for him to spring back on his hands, and drive both feet upward under the Fox’s jaw. The momentum was great, with Menma having every bit the strength that Kurama possesses. They were one. “Me?! You have been unreliable since you were beaten by that... that... counterfeit!” The inky blackness of whatever surface they tussled on shook as Kurama landed on his back, Menma straddling his throat. 

“You blame that on ME?” Kurama hissed, his head turning to try and snap downward at Menma, but the ninja fended off the invading jaw his a misdirection of his hand. The boy had grown too skilled for his own good. “We have ALWAYS done things your way, Kurama! Our strength is failing. The void grows larger, and we grow weaker! Perhaps we should try things his way.”

“And what way is that?” The Fox had ceased it’s fighting, laying on it’s back with the Ninja astride his throat. “The girl. He had something there. This void of solitude does not do us any favors any longer. We need someone. Anyone.”

“And who would understand?”

Menma’s chest thrust upward as he took his first deep inhale since coming home. The void was fading, but he could still hear Kurama’s voice in his head. Who would Understand? His hand flexed, and for a split moment he felt something soft in his grip before his fingers relaxed. His eyes rolled around behind their lids, and finally, weakly, they cracked to peek out at the infirmary station he’d been drug to. HOME.

much like every other day, menma didn’t particularly care about where he ate so long as the food was warm and tasted better than feet and stale butter. this was a simple development that came with never really having any artistic freedom in one meals, as being able to request someone was a luxury for prisoners whose name wasn’t uzumaki menma. still, from time to time, he did have a taste for dirt. today, however, food was food and that was good enough for him.

he hadn’t even decided which food joint he’d step foot into before he heard his name. this much wasn’t too much of a surprise, nor was it anything to concern himself over, as he came to learn that the people of the village were boldly talkative and overly nice in ways to compensate for just how cruel they could be. alas, it wasn’t his own name being uttered but a dying familiar one’s that cause his to stop his walk and turn. it was slight, a short glance over his bare shoulder when he spotted his mirror, squinting a bit at how outwardly bright the other seemed to be.

despite being blinded by the mirror image of himself, menma remained silent as he eyed the other. something in his mind snapped, some short, thin, wax coated thread snapping like twigs under a foot when he spotted naruto. so he did come back... and the pit in his stomach grew a bit, or formed, menma couldn’t differentiate at the moment. his own blue eyes searched his brothers, unaware of what to say as a confused smile began to creep upon his lips. he hadn’t spoken in so long, they hadn’t spoken in so long.

Hello fellow Naruto roleplayers, I will be returning to roleplay after a five year hiatus as one of my most favored characters to portray. Im excited to meet all of the new faces around here, and of course seeing some old friends too. Now, normally I would post my own starter for people to reply to, but Im deciding against it due to the fact that I would much rather have someone to bounce ideas off of and so forth. I doubt I will be as active as I once was back then, but I will do my best.

I will be following a few blogs and approaching them in hopes that it will allow me to get a better feel of this new community.
