I found a fleece market day a few hours from home, and omg I had such a good time. There was so much to look at and touch and smell! I came home with 3 fleeces: a dark grey merino cross, a middle brown moorit (@milkweedman was it you who likes moorit?), and a section of piebald superfine merino!
I've never bought whole fleeces before, I'm so excited to spin it up. I keep dreaming of jumpers, but need to get started on spinning before I dream too big.
I started washing locks of the merino cross tonight, trying to maintain lock structure for semi-worsted spinning, but we'll see if that lasts, there's a lot of locks XD I'm also not sure how much lanolin I've actually removed lol, so will have a check in the morning and see.

Merino wool, despite having household-name popularity, can be surprisingly tricky to spin! Very fine, short, almost slippery fibers require very careful twist balance and mindful drafting to make good singles... but all that attention to detail is rewarded with squishy, buttery-soft finished yarn that set the standard for "fine wool" since the Middle Ages.

suffolk sophian | ram jamian | merino rowanian

merino jamian: a jamian who prefers cuddles, kisses, etc. over sex
sheep rowanian: a rowanian who prefers cuddles, kisses, etc. over sex
[pt: suffolk sophian: a sophian who prefers cuddles, kisses, etc. over sex
merino jamian: a jamian who prefers cuddles, kisses, etc. over sex
sheep rowanian: a rowanian who prefers cuddles, kisses, etc. over sex. end pt]
sophian, jamian, and rowanian equivalents to bambi lesbian! anon asked for the sophian and rowanian terms and i figured i'd also do jamian. they suggested sheep rowanian, so i used suffolk and merino, two very common types of sheep, for sophian and jamian.

WIP Wednesday
It's (just barely still) Wednesday, I have WIPs, I remembered WIP Wednesday was a thing:
Jacob sheep spin is almost complete. Only the leftover single from one bobbin left to ply, then time to finish the yarn.
Meanwhile, the first yarn I spun on the espinner before the Jacob is being turned into a simple triangle scarf.

November 11, 2023:
This was so cute hahah and it delivers exactly what it promises: a flock of sheep trying to solve the murder of their human shepherd. They act like sheep--forgetting what they're doing because they'd rather graze, getting spooked and running away, misinterpreting human words and names. Charming through and through, cozy as a wool sweater.
The only downsides are minor: The middle is quite thin on clues so it was tempting to skim. A late introduction of a new sheep character who talks strangely was confusing.
If you only like the hardboiled, gory details kind of mystery, this will absolutely not do it for you. This is cuddly, silly, and sweet, for fans of dramatic irony and those interested in unusual point of view characters. Several of the sheep have satisfying emotional arcs, and they have a whole village full of suspects to investigate and misunderstand.
7.5/10
