I finally had time to make proper designs for the Trio!
Redson: Ver 1

Ver 2

I couldn't decide on if I liked it better with the braids or not so I just posted both, but anyways!
I gotta admit, I used to not like the idea of redson having Bull features (except for a small pair of horn maybe) but the concept really grew on me and now I really love it and wanted to try making my own design and I'm really proud with how it turned out.
I would've added more scars, since Guanyins throne pierced his entire body, but there came a point where it just looked like there was too much going on so I had to get rid of a few scars to tone it down, so we're just gonna say they faded over time, okay? Okay.
I also made him Miao (one of the largest ethnic minorities in southwest China) on PIF's side, and Mongolian on DBK's.
The Miao ethnicity of China has a long history, rich culture, and an ancient folk religion. Adorned in beautiful traditional clothes, possessing natural talent for singing and dancing, they live in uniquely designed indigenous architecture, which I think fits perfectly with how I imagined Princess Iron Fan and with her; Redson.
As for DBK being Mongolian, I saw someone else talking about this headcanon and I just liked it so I decided to use it, I don't really have a specific reason for it, I just thought it fit, not sure why though, it's just one of those things that makes sense even if you don't know why, you know?
Mei:

I made her taller and gave her a long dragon tail (like really long, it drags along the floor if she's not holding it up), though her scales are pretty much everywhere across her body they're most noticeable on her shoulders, thighs, and face (they're a bit hard to see in this photo because they're kinda hidden behind her hair, but I did give her scales beside her eyes)
I also gave her horns these little spiral designs around them, gave her sharper nails, and designed her ears to look like coral, since she's a water dragon and I thought they looked cool.
Honestly idk what else to say about her design, I didn't have anything specific in mind when designing her, I kinda just had to wing it, but I'm happy with how it turned out :)
(I also made her Bengali, on her dad's side, but it's not really important or has any reason behind it, just a headcanon I've had for a while, don't know where it came from though)
MK:

Alot of people have speculated that the monkey form we see during the fight against Azure in season 4 isn't MK's full form yet, that we're just seeing a fraction of what he's yet to become, based on the fact that while he has the weird side burns, the tail and the face marking, he also lacks a natural skin tone, they didn't give him a proper nose etc, so I wanted to play with the idea.
I decided to make him this strange mix between human and monkey, leaving him pretty much human with the addition of his tail(s), and weird li'l monkey feet.
(I was also gonna give MK more arm/leg hair, it was in my first sketch, but I forgot to add them when I was doing the line art and didn't realize until after I saved it as a jpeg, so that's my bad, but I'm gonna add it in to any other art I make)
It's also a bit hard to see in this, but I designed his staff with more details, specifically adding dragon-esque imagery to the Golden ends, this is because (for anyone who's new to the fandom/hasn't read JTTW) Wukong's staff was originally one of the several pillars that held up the sea in the dragon palace, until he stole it and shrunk it down to use as his weapon.
I also did MK's clones :)

Porty MK:
I gave him stripes of coloured hair and gave his tails all different colours, though I don't think he would actually dye it, instead I like to think that he would use that really crappy dollar store spray in hair dye (or hair chalk). I kept the fishnet clothes that I added in my originally design of him for my headcanons post, and decided to give him striped elbow length fingerless gloves.
I also gave him a cropped shirt, ripped shorts and these weird fingerless glove-esque shoes for convenience, since regular shows seem like they would be uncomfortable.
Edit: my dumbass forgot Porty's stupid print jacket 😭
Artist MK:
For Artist MK I gave him overalls and a jacket over it, which he wears specifically for when he's doing paintings so he doesn't ruin too many of his actual clothes (I know I said that this was inspod by Circusapple, which it still is, but this is almost exactly what I wear when I'm painting too, just in different colours).
I also gave him those gloves that digital artists wear so they're hands don't accidently trigger something on the screen because everyone knows that every artist just walks around with their art glove on even when it's not necessary.
Delivery MK:
I have to admit, I was never a big fan of MK's work uniform just being his regular clothes with a work jacket thrown over it so I wanted to try and make him look a little more professional and decided to instead give him a chef coat (similar to the one Pigsy wears on the show as well), with a logo for the restaurant on the chest, along with it I gave him plain black pants, since casual red jeans didn't seem very professional (I know he's just a delivery person, but if you were to look at pretty much any food corporation, even people who do deliveries have to wear uniform, so it's always been kinda strange to me that he's just in regular clothes).
The shoes were harder to make professional given the whole "half-monkey" thing so I opted to give him the same strange fingerless glove-esque shoes for comfort and convenience, but made them plain black as well.

*caress Lucius under his chin cus he's a cutie*
"Yknow, Professor Trein. I sometimes wish you could visit my world, there's this country called Japan, and it has an entire island dedicated to feline residents with a handful of people! The cats are fed with the food donations and hunting rodents on the island, so I think you and Lucius would like it there as a retirement home heh"
If anyone's wondering, this anon is talking about Aoshima in Ehime prefecture. It's colloquially known as Cat Island.
A Storied Past.
"My, an entire island populated by cats, where they live in harmony with humans... It sounds fascinating. I don't know if I am entirely comfortable retiring inn a land beyond my own--I would be leaving far too much behind--but certainly a trip would be worthwhile to soak up the culture."
Trein thoughtfully stroked his chin. "What must the history of such a tranquil-sounding place look like for it to have ended up in its current state? I would love to learn more.
"In Twisted Wonderland, our closest equivalent would be the land of Sunset Savanna during the King of Beasts' time. Animals, the ancestors of beastmen, predominantly roamed the land. Of course, they were still wrapped up in their own politics and struggles for resources--issues which carry over to the beastmen of present day.
He was droning again.
It was pleasant, the sort of even and rhythmic placement of stress and syllables to lull one to rest. Your lids seemed to grow heavier at the sound of him, your entire body relaxing. The warm fur tickling your fingers didn't help, only further enticed you to shut your eyes and sleep.
"Mrrow! Meow meow miao... meow!"
"Lucius thinks it would be nice too. He is eager to sample the local tuna and show off his mouse catching skills," Trein translated, a sparkle set in his gaze. It was as though he were suddenly made 40 years younger. "Ah, how exciting. A trip to another world and the strange locales there... It sounds like quite the adventure. We would have to take part in their customs, observe their architecture, tour historical sites, purchase souvenirs for Dolly and Anna..."
"If the headmaster ever finds me a way home, you and Lucius would be more than welcome to visit me. We can visit Cat Island together," you offered with a laugh.
Trein gave a smile. Small yet sincere, and filled with enough love for both his world and yours. "That would be lovely. Lucius and I would be honored to accept your invitation."

a mix of Thai/Japanese/Chinese traditional clothing would look so cute in Cinder. The draped piece with sequins and embroidery from Thai dresses would look so pretty with Lunar details and moons and stars. actually all of these would look pretty on her with details of Luna
Yes, I love the concept! Thai/Cambodian clothing was the first thought I had when imagining non-aristocratic sectors of Luna before Wires and Nerve came out. Or even for some of the higher nobility that don’t participate in the aristocracy at all. I’d still imagine the palace with Nagara temple-style architecture (because Cypress Blackburn has a god complex and all) too if it weren’t for the beautiful art they had in Fairest (though Wires and Nerve ignored that too) but at least we can still speculate on the inner decorum. Hindu and Gaelic inspired interiors could still fit even if we include Wires and Nerve.
But yeah, now I want to focus a lot on what Lunar clothing could look like. Wouldn’t it be cool if tons of unique attire evolved over time throughout sectors outside of the capital? I won’t speculate on Artemisia too much since the nobles have and will take, appropriate, and throw away anything in the name of beauty, but what if there was a mining sector with traditions similar to Miao Silver? As Artemisia doesn’t seem to have a lack of anorthite, or compounds mixed with anorthite, perhaps this may be a tradition in one of the outer sectors.
If it takes place in a mining sector, imagine hair pieces, earrings, necklaces, pins, aglets, etc. made of Lunar Anorthosite that can be passed down throughout families. Not only would it look beautiful, but could you imagine the folklore behind it? Marissa didn’t drill in just how symbolic it is to have the royal crown be made of crystalline anorthosite. Anorthosite, the Genesis Rock. Rare on Earth, and likely the mineral that surrounds the outer walls of Artemisia Palace. The rock that was the final key to piecing together the formation of a celestial object 1/80th the size of the Earth, the rock that explained the evolution of the moon, and the first thing the majority of people think of when talking about the Apollo 15 mission!
If it is still unlikely that a mining sector would be allowed to keep any anorthosite, then maybe let’s speculate on regolith solidified by impact shockwaves. The dark grey/black would have a bold contrast with much of the building stone in the Capital. Maybe this could be a tradition in a sector that uses electrolysis to mine oxygen or water, a sector that uses fusion with helium 3, or even ra sector that explores the terrain outside of the domes that simply finds this regolith in areas with high meteor impacts.
#sorry if this makes no sense#I have no inner dialogue and have no clue if the idea comes across correctly#or if it’s all jumbled and riddled with typos#I had to delete 6 paragraphs that had almost nothing to do with clothing#exoplanets and the moon make me feral#Kepler 62-f is my favourite planet. I cannot explain why at this point#heck yeah habitable zone giant superearth K-star orbiter#aka KOI-701.04 it has the best fish in its name#lunar chronicles#the lunar chronicles#maybe there's a sector that wears Tang Dynasty hairstyles since they appear to defy gravity#but this time for all genders#tlc#Also why isn't the USA going to the moon anymore? what are you guys doing over there if you're not on the moon#ask

Three-Body
Stephen Benedict Dyson's article “Images of International Politics in Chinese Science Fiction: Liu Cixin’s Three-Body Problem” compares International Relation theory with science fiction world-building, arguing that both construct ideas of a world through theory, which has real life consequences in the changing ways we interpret our experiences. I can the show's challenge to IR theories in the concept of the Frontiers of Science organization, which (apparently) seeks to find the line where science cannot explain our world, as explained at the meeting Wang Miao attends in the 1st episode. As Dyson speaks to, this idea directly challenges the positivist model of thought, where everything can hypothetical be proven and explained through Western scientific method as developed in the Enlightenment. Darko Suvin, a scholar referenced by Dyson, expresses that "Science fiction is a cognitive genre, exploring changes in social relations based upon rational human responses to altered circumstances. This Suvin contrasts with mythic texts such as folktales and religious works, which posit supernaturally determined human relations that are invariant across changed circumstances," (463). I actually disagree with this point, because I think even religious and folk texts change over time and we interpret and read into different elements of them depending on our context. Keeping this in mind, I think it's interesting to look at the game in the 7th episode within the context of a religious text. If this alien world represents a higher meaning for our world with the potential to shape and structure everything we do, it can be read as being treated as a religious text, which contain within them stories and teachings that contain further religious and social signification that people then structure their lives and communities around. It's interesting that the three-body game takes the appearance of a historical past with the architecture and costuming. This also enforces the credibility of the idea of timeless power and knowledge, just as depictions of old religious texts often do.

Fenghuang
The past 3ish days have been spent in the city of Fenghuang 凤凰, literally, Phoenix Town, in Hunan province.
This town was established sometime in the 1700s and was generally a sleepy river town until recent years. The famous Chinese author Shen Congwen is from here and he wrote a famous novel called Border Towns set in this town in the 1920s about a Romeo and Juliet -esque romance. Shen Congwen is now considered to be one of the greatest Chinese modern authors, but during his life he was targeted by the Communist government because his novels were too “apolitical”. He was socially ostracized to the point where he attempted suicide. He later was “reeducated” and became a scholar of traditional culture working at a museum, he was nominated for the Nobel Prize for his novels in 1988 but died before the result was announced.
This town is famous nowadays for its architecture and for being the setting of this novel. It is an extremely popular tourist destination in Hunan province but relatively unknown within the rest of China and abroad. I only found out about it from a TikTok comparing it to the town in the Japanese animated film, Spirited Away, and thought it was pretty.
The old town here remains pretty much exactly as it did during the 1700s, which is pretty rare. It is built pretty much right up against the Tuojiang River with houses partially built on stilts overlooking the river. Its also known for the local indigenous Miao (also known abroad as Hmong) and Tujia culture. Nowadays it is a very touristy town. Each night the entire ancient town is lit with an enormous amount of lights and the river itself becomes the stage for a 3.5 hour continuous reenactment of Shen Congwen’s novel, complete with actors on floating stages reenacting key parts of the novel and light shows depicted on the walls, on the cliffs, and in the sky. The main characters of the novel, Cuicui (a 13 year old girl) and her grandfather run the local ferry in the book, so tourists can pay to ride around on a replica of this ferry to visit the various scenes being reenacted throughout the river. I did that on Thursday night and it was pretty cool even though I didn’t understand what was going on. I later found an English version of the novel online and read it and now it makes more sense.
Its also very popular here to rent traditional Miao/Hmong and Tujia clothing for the day and hire a professional photographer to go around and take photos with you. It is very picturesque here so it makes sense, I was just not prepared for the sheer quantity of people doing this. It was very hard to not end up in people’s photos.
Its also interesting that it is so trendy to dress up and do photoshoots wearing traditional ethnic clothing when only a few decades ago it was considered very shameful to be a part of the Miao/Hmong ethnic group. They were often referred to by offensive names such as ‘rude’ or ‘dirty’ people. Shen Congwen himself was part Miao but hid that fact until near his death. There are hundreds of ethnic groups in China, while the Han group is the largest and most culturally dominant, and even now ethnic minorities such as the Uyghurs in Xinjiang (western China) are persecuted and forced into ‘reeducation’ camps, but that is kind of a taboo topic in China. Its just interesting that both Shen Congwen and indigenous cultures are so celebrated here when historically they have been treated so poorly, and I wonder how much of it is genuine admiration and how much of it is just for the “fun” of it. I mean it is nice that culture is being celebrated but I wonder how authentic and genuine it all is, It all seems a bit Disney-fied to be honest.
Anyway, this town is beautiful but very hot and extremely touristy. I think I am the only foreigner I’ve seen the entire time I’ve been here, so its always a big production every time I try to buy something or go in a shop. Everyone has been really nice but I just feel bad inconveniencing people with my broken Chinese when everywhere is so crowded and busy.
I went around a few times really early in the morning and again while it was raining out and there was almost no one out so it was really nice to walk around then. Although it is truly beautiful here; most of the time I’ve been here I’ve been in my hotel room because between the tiny streets, the overwhelmingly enormous crowds, and the nearly 100 degree heat and humidity its all been a bit too much for me.
I’m leaving tomorrow and it will be my most complicated transportation feat yet because I have to take public transport to the train station, go to a different city, and from there get to the airport and fly across the country, all before 11am. Wish me luck. I’ll be in Lijiang, in the mountains near the Himalayas in southwest China. I’ll be there for a fairly long stint, nearly 2 weeks, and hopefully it won’t be as hot there.
Until next time,

Fenghuang Ancient Town is renowned for its exceptional building preservation, earning it a reputation as one of China's most beautiful ancient towns. Dating back to 1704, the town has many well-preserved ancient buildings that embody the architectural styles of the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties, harmoniously blending influences from diverse ethnic groups. Serving as a vibrant cultural center, it attracts and embraces the Miao, Han, Tujia, and other ethnic communities.
The Tuojiang River gracefully winds through the ancient city, akin to a shimmering jade ribbon, infusing the surroundings with a vibrant energy from dawn till dusk.

Fenghuang County 凤凰县 in Hunan province. Named after the mythological bird Fenghuang (phoenix) it was built in 1704, and has 300 years of history.
Fenghuang has an exceptionally well-preserved ancient town that harbours unique languages, customs, arts as well as many distinctive architectural remains of Ming and Qing styles. The town is placed in a mountain setting, incorporating the natural flow of the river into the city layout.
The ancient town of Fenghuang was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2008, in the Cultural category.

It was the centre of the unsuccessful Miao Rebellion of 1854-73, which created a Miao (Hmong) diaspora in Southeast Asia during the last two centuries. The city is revered in Miao traditions and funeral rites.
