Does Not Play Well With Others (…Unless)

ㅤㅤㅤLogan is of two minds about this. He is, by all accounts, a self professed Loner. It’s true that he’s been a member of no small number of Teams (both “Hero” and otherwise) over the course of his very long life, but the Canuck is aware that he’s generally invited into a group for a very specific purpose. Because The Wolverine has skills that make him the best there is at what he does… it’s just that what he does isn’t very nice.

ㅤㅤㅤKilling isn’t a team sport, y'see. It’s one of those necessary evils that needs doing, sure, but owning up to that often taints whatever idealistic mumbo-jumbo narrative a superhero group is trying to promote. Nobody wants to hear about Captain America killing people, even bad people. Nobody wants to see Xavier’s golden “gifted” children with blood on their hands, not if peace between Homosapiens and Homosuperior is ever going to become a reality. 

ㅤㅤㅤSo even when Logan is part of a hero initiative, he still finds himself working alone. Taking care of the uglier side of business. He’s even been on teams specifically designed for killing, which was both weirdly validating and equal parts insulting. It’s fine, though. He’s a mutant who knows his place in the scheme of things, who does his best to take the ugliness of who he is and turn it into something meaningful, something Good. 

ㅤㅤㅤOf course, all of these notions get turned right on their head when he starts thinking about his people. His Family. 

ㅤㅤㅤSince joining the gifted Mutants at Xavier’s school, Logan has found friendship and brotherhood beyond anything he could have imagined for himself. Ororo, his soulmate and equal, who makes him a better man. Kurt, his closest friend, who gives him reasons to aspire to be more than he is. Jubilee, the little sister that saved him. Kitty, the first X-Man to accept him completely, who reminded him how to trust again all those years ago. Jeannie, who will always bring out the best (… and worst) in him. Laura, his daughter, the very best parts of Logan brought to life and given her own voice. And more, so many more names and faces of loved ones that have crawled inside the Canuck’s heart to live for as long as his body keeps on healing. What he wouldn’t do for each and every one of them….

He rarely plays well with others, too much the living embodiment of ‘the ends justifying the means.’ But… Logan. Logan is a teammate, a mentor, a brother, a friend. He’s become father and a teacher, a partner. He’s all the things he thought he could never have when he woke up naked and bloodied somewhere in the Canadian Wilderness.

For a monthly challenge's microchallenge on the FNAF amino, I had an idea for what I wanted to do. It was a novelist. But how would I make her an animatronic? Owl. Easy. But picking a type of owl was tough, but I settled on the southern white faced owl. The outfit is somewhat inspired by the outfit that Luca Balsa from IDV wears in his character trailer, and the hair was inspired by Reina Ooe from NG. When I was designing her, I originally conceptualised her as being human, but then made her an owl mid-sketch so that she'd fit the world of 'FNAF World' better. This fact that I planned for her to be human but then changed to owl is evident in how the clothes on her body have creases, like how I draw creases on regular clothes. She was also originally going to have shoes, but those were quickly turned into talons. Please note that when I say "Originally conceptualised", this conceptualisation occured as I was reading the challenge description for the second time to try and make sure I knew what it wanted. As she is an owl, and as the only cannon owl is Security, I wanted her to seem antagonistic, almost suspicious even. Her specific tolerances of other player characters are defined by 'maturity' and wether they spark inspiration for her next novel. Her two unique attacks are based around her career as the novelist, and her one attack from the already existing move pool was chosen as it fits her aesthetic and gives her some mid/late game viability. 🌹 Written Description 🌹 🦉Personality🦉 Oxana Olwen is a self proclaimed author who prefers to be left alone and has a particular distaste of loud noises, which is why she secluded herself so. She resides in the pink roofed house in Fazbear hills (the first area of the game). Whilst it may be close to the initial ruckus, the walls are thick enough. Being the mysterious sort, she keeps a lot of herself hidden, giving little about herself away, but she is far from quiet. She speaks a lot, but about her works as opposed to anything that would tell you more about her than an individual needs to know. Her mannerisms are blunt, standoffish, and purposeful. Whilst she isn't too fond of the rest of the cast, she seems to tolerate the Shadow animatronics more than the others. Perhaps her mentions of "other worlds" and constant ramblings about redbear and white rabbit may have something to do with this. She also tolerates Springtrap, and some of the phantoms, but nobody knows why. As a novelist, she spends a lot of time writing and is never seen without her notebook and pen, and when inspiration finally hits once again, nothing will stop her from planning out her next masterpiece. 🦉 Attire🦉 She is a southern white faced owl animatronic. Her eyes are orange, and her beak and feet are a light brown. Her suit is made to look like a deep red tailcoat and black trousers. Black hair covers her head, and is pulled back in a ponytail. She always caries around a quill pen and notebook. It appears as though this suit if from a discontinued line where the suits had to use wigs to cover up the the imperfections of the suits due to being smaller than normal. 🦉Backstory🦉 She has never told a soul where she is from. Roumors say she has always been in the house, others say she has only been here for a while. All anyone knows is that one day, she started wandering around, trying to find inspiration for her next novel, only to hide away once again when the flip side begun to corrupt. Some say Oxana was once human and retreated to this plane after she died. Others say she's still alive and is simply here because she wished to move her 'soul' somewhere safer. Others even go as far to claim that she has always been on this plane. One thing that is certain, however, is that she is an adult, only seeing specific other animatronics as being "fellow adults". Regardless, many even see her existence as a rumour, something passed around on the wind and ever changing. But even so, aren't rumours where stories begin? 🌹Moveset🌹 She has two new moves unique to her, and one move from the standard pool. She is a mid/late game character whose ability to use mimic ball and a powerful damage over time move keeps her at least somewhat viable, especially to those who can't for the life of them find the permanent mimic ball chip. She's a support character with some attacking capabilities. Novelas is her most dangerous move when combined with mimic ball, as it lets her apply massive damage over an extended period of time. Combined with Rough draft, she can last a while and eliminate opponents by means of endurance. Novelas A far more powerful version of muncheies with a new sprite shaped like a book with teeth. Damage over time move, each bite deals a lot of damage, and the Novelas last twice as long as munchies Rough Draft A mid-game version of neon wall reskined to look like a wall of paper. It halves any damage taken by the party for a while. Can stack with other defensive moves. Mimic ball Base game move. 🌹Unlocking Oxana 🌹 You must have shadow Freddy and Shadow Bonnie at the front of party 1 and 2 respectively and have unlocked pinwheel circus. Then, in area 1, you must go to the pink house and walk up to the door, and keep walking into the door. After a while, this will start a cutscene where a voice without a sprite will say "Oh, it's you? Fine. Come on in." You are unable to alter your party composition whilst in the house and only the first two members of each party will be usable, so make sure Shadow Freddy and Shadow Bonnie are leveled up before you start this. Whilst in the house, your overworld sprite is switched to Shadow Freddy. It's recommended you take Springtrap as one slot 2, and one of the three phantoms, Freddy, Foxy, and marionette, as your other slot 2. This will make her use her moves less frequently. To reiterate, Slots 3 and 4 are not available for use in battle whilst in her house. It is recommended you take all healthpack bytes so you can heal. After navigating through the house, you make it to the study where another cutscene starts. This time, it actually shows Oxana, and she says "If you want me to join you, you'll have to prove its worth my time." Then the "challenger approaching" banner appears on screen and you fight as you would any other playable character, unlocking her after the fight. She isn't too hard to beat, due to the player only being able to bring the two shadow animatronics and two other characters, but she should be a challenge. After the fight you are taken back to area 1, and she is now playable.

HAVING BEEN BORN WITH A GILDED SPOON in his mouth, before being adopted by a family that owns an enormous industrial material development company, peter grew up in manhattan, not knowing much about the layered society initially. as a child, he was pampered with the most lavish items and services in life, every aspect of his surroundings polished down to a t until he was about six years old, when his conscience was tugged by the way the servants in the apartment, albeit older than he was, acted so differently towards him. cared with the utmost respect, peter started realising the disparity within that age, and sometimes he started bringing some excess meals home to share with the servants. his mother, who had always been conducting a lot of charity acts, approved of that tremendously, letting peter share his riches with the poorer ones on his seventh birthday, knowing fully well that the boy was meant to have a big heart. and a big heart he does have, until today, in memory of his mother who helped foster it.

growing up surrounded by the insanely rich people, attending a private school alongside the richest kids in the world, sometimes engraves a sense of discomfort in him. he still does charities during special occasions, but with his mother’s passing, sometimes it proves to be difficult. still, he learns to save up his money, not being as spendthrift as his so-called friends, trying to remain humble even when he’s guilty with savouring the lifestyle still, mostly to evade being too suspicious. as spiderman, though, he has always left something on doorsteps, as well as for the homeless. he patrols almost daily for the sake of the poorer ones as well, even when the primary objectives are propelled by the sense of justice to deliver towards the criminals. still, he tries not to condemn those who commit crimes based on necessities, even when he would still try to deliver fairness towards the crimes. in spite of having all the means to share, he doesn’t share as much as he can to prevent from being too conspicuous with his wealth, especially since the wealth is still his father’s, and not his.

but still, in this case, the gap between the rich and the poor is gigantic. the juxtaposed portraits between the quixotic manhattan and other areas in new york, with the homeless residing on its streets... it makes him want to do more, always. his curbed ability to perform that has always etched a sense of regrets, but he promises himself that in the case he’s started working, he will do more to contribute towards their economic states. for now, nonetheless, he will do his best by proffering what acts of service that he can through being spiderman.

Microchallenges

So if it weren’t obvious from the lack of original posting lately...my diet basically went to shit several months ago and hasn’t recovered. So with the excuse of Thanksgiving now out of the way, and with X-mas and New Years on the horizon, I wanted to start back on being healthy.  Rather than start a big overwhelming diet that’s doomed to fail as soon as we hold a holiday party at work I’m going to try a few smaller health challenges. My hope is that a set of small challenges with dumb minor rewards at the end of each will be a little easier to pull off.  So from now until New Years I’m going to pick a new challenge each week.  If I pull it off, then I’m going to reward myself with an inexpensive Funko Pop! figure off of Amazon (ie...significantly less than I’d have been spending on junk food and takeout over the week if I don’t start fixing myself). This week’s challenge is “Fish.”  Basically one meal of each day (most likely dinner, but could be lunch on a couple days) will have to feature fish in some manner. Most meals I tend to make with fish as the lead entree are also lower in calories.  So with any luck this will help me out. Today’s result:  Success Details:  dinner was a half-pound salmon filet, about half a cup of rice, and green beans.  So that met the goal.  Breakfast was generic brand Life cereal, while lunch was a frozen pizza.  No other snacks to speak of.

In order to feel worthy, you have to feel, period. Feel what you feel first, without interpretation. Right now, your interpretations are taking over the whole picture. Whenever you feel sad or disappointed or angry, your brain steps in and tells you that it’s your fault. Emotions are bad. Emotions mean that you’re messing up. Somehow, the rest of the world makes sense, but you don’t. This worthy [person] very logically disappeared because you are unlovable. [They] made a rational decision. You feel bad, you hate yourself for feeling bad, and you tell yourself that you’re destined to feel bad forever because you’re unworthy and weak and doomed to be rejected over and over again. Likewise with your friends: You need to step out of the way and let them enjoy their time together. You’ll only make things bad for them. Instead of thinking, Jesus, I’m valued enough that these two people want to spend time with me, you think, They’re just doing me a favor because I’m a loser. They should just cut me out. That’s the only rational thing to do, since I’m unlovable. When you’re inventing such extreme interpretations, when you give yourself shit just for existing, when you tell yourself that you’re a blight on the face of the earth and everyone would be better off without you, it’s natural that you’d grow to hate your feelings. Eventually, it’s not just the feelings you have to fear, it’s the miserable interpretation and the self-hatred that accompany them. As someone who spent the first three decades of her life treating every so-called negative emotion as a kind of moral failure, I fall into the same bad habits occasionally. When I feel down, it makes me angry at myself. I’m supposed to be balanced and happy! Some ancient scroll tucked in the dusty recesses of my brain tells me that my sadness and my anger are part of what makes me broken, a mutant, less capable than others, less generous and good than others. People will need to work around me, because I am too damaged just to be happy. Maybe I deserve to be accommodated, thanks to some other qualities, but it’s a pretty enormous inconvenience. It’s a damn shame I’m not stronger. It’s a damn shame I insist on inflicting my shitty emotions on the world. It’s a shame I’m so weak. When I hear that, I feel broken. But these days, even when I feel broken, I still feel worthy, because I have faith in what comes next: I’m going to listen to these sounds, watch these images play out, sink into these feelings, and create something out of it all. I might be imperfect and inadequate (as all human beings are), but I’m going to cobble together my vulnerable, lost, broken parts into a giant junk robot and I’m going to FUCK SHIT UP WITH IT. Feelings are scary, but if you stay vulnerable to them, if you refuse to apply the same old nonsensical stories to them (I feel feelings, therefore I am unlovable, therefore no one wants me around), if you reject those stories outright (which includes rejecting people who tell you those stories), if you tell new, powerful, brilliant, exciting stories about what it means to feel and what you can build from feelings, then … well, then you get to be a formidable motherfucking junk robot who roams the earth, busting heads and singing loud robot songs and kicking bitchy junkyard robot ass in general. Feelings are your portal out of the ordinary, scared, fearful world. Yes, that sounds nonsensical! How could FEAR be the answer to FEAR? You have to let your feelings exist without judgment. Let your feelings show you what they want to show you without pushing them away or stopping short at because you’re a loser or because you’re weak. Be patient with yourself, and your feelings will point you back out to the world, to new ideas, to new principles, to new adventures. Feeling worthless is a sure path into a cave, a cave where you can feel sorry for yourself. Everyone gets pushed away. You’re not good enough for them, yes, but they’re also not good enough for you, right? There’s a comfortable superiority afforded by not staying open to other people’s generosity with you. If you stayed open and showed up to hang out with your friend and her boyfriend, you’d have to tolerate being a third wheel. You’d have to tolerate being less valued than your friend by the boyfriend. You’d have to tolerate their comfort and love for each other. You’d have to feel vulnerable with witnesses. You’d have to be patient with them and patient with yourself. Ask more from yourself. That’s how you grow. Instead of hiding, do things that require more of you — even though you feel like doing less. Tolerate your own ambivalence. Tolerate the ambivalence of friends and strangers. Let them show you what’s in their hearts. Tolerate it when they don’t. When you use your thoughts to push your feelings away over and over, you teach yourself that the only safe place is the isolated, lonely place where you are at the center, the terrible, unlovable queen of reality. You are sad and angry, but you’re still fighting what’s there. Your thoughts are racing. You’re not at peace with who you are and what you’re feeling. You’re still trying to think your way into a safer place, but it’s not working. You just feel isolated and pissed off at yourself and everyone else. When you feel your feelings instead of always getting defensive and self-defeating and self-diminishing, you teach yourself to be patient with the world as it is instead of trying to keep yourself removed from it because it’s too good/not good enough for you. That inferiority/superiority complex is so real. When you reject the world out of defensiveness, you’re nothing but you’re also everything, because you won’t let anyone in. You become the center of everything. When you accept the world as it is and don’t allow your shame to make every single bit of stimuli a verdict on your value as a person, you are just another human being on the face of the planet. You are neither nothing nor everything. There is room for other people. There is room to be big and dangerous. There is also room to be generous, to be brave, to make the world a better place. Staying trapped in some perpetual referendum on your own value is the ultimate self-centered act. When you let the world in, and allow your feelings to give you power instead of enfeebling you with old stories, you don’t need anyone to tell you that you are worthy. You simply feel worthy. Dare to take yourself seriously. Dare to build something gorgeous and formidable out of feelings that the world told you were worthless. Strive for more connection and less living alone in a bubble of weird little microchallenges. Everyone feels worthless now and then. Let it be. At some point, I had to admit that I was going to relapse forever. I was going to go back to feeling weak and damaged regularly. Once I accepted that, things improved, because I wasn’t placing my damage at the center of everything and using it to explain every situation I couldn’t tolerate. I learned to tolerate how I am in the world, the noises in my head, the longing in my heart. I learned to tell new stories about it. The old stories still come back when shit gets dark, mind you. I feel anxious and weak sometimes. The difference is, when it comes to a head, when I’m crying, when I’m shutting people out, there is a breaking point. At that point, instead of believing, Now it’s all over. Now everyone will reject me. Now I’ve proven, once and for all, that I’m worthless, what I feel, in my heart, is a weird sense of possibility. This is the bottom. I’m in the junkyard now. I know that all I can do is start bolting shit together. I am going to have to work harder. I am turning a corner. I am about to fuck shit up. Stop fighting and work with what you have, even when it looks worthless to you. You are just another person. You are not at the center of everything. Thank God! Because the center of everything is a lonely place, a place where you either have to be everything or nothing at all. Happiness is knowing what you have to offer. You don’t need someone outside of you to tell you what you have to offer. You don’t need love and validation in order to know your path. You aren’t missing a piece. This collapsed, rusted-out place where you are right now is beautiful. You are surrounded by your broken, dented, fucked-up gifts. Nothing is perfect. Do what you can with what you have. Build something out of this precious junk. Build something ugly and frightening and divine.

L'histoire de la plaisance est faite d'hommes et de femmes qui ont fait rêver les autres par leurs voyages sur toutes les mers du globe, d'autres qui ont construit des bateaux de légende. Mais rien ne serait possible sans des architectes qui dessinent des bateaux. La voile est devenue, en partie, un loisir avec le yachting, au 19ème siècle. Des yachts ont été mis à l'eau qui ont marqué le nautisme. La voile était alors réservée aux plus fortunés. Mais c'est au 20ème siècle que la voile et la plaisances sont devenu une activité accessible à plus de monde. Et petit à petit, le nautisme s'est ouvert à tous. Cette évolution n'aurait jamais été possible sans des hommes de passion et novateurs. Ces architectes ont créé l'histoire de la plaisance. sans eux, nous ne naviguerions sans doute pas et n'aurions pas les mêmes rêves. Alors ne les oublions pas. je vous propose de revenir sur ceux qui ont le plus marqué l'histoire de la plaisance populaire.

Les architectes qui ont donné naissance à la plaisance

Les architectes ci-dessous ont laissé plus qu'une trace dans l'histoire de la plaisance. Ils ont lancer l'aventure du nautisme qui se démarquait du yachting pas son côté populaire. Jean Jacques Herbulot (1909-1997)

Jean Jacques Herbulot est sans doute le père de la plaisance populaire en France. Tous les passionnés de petits voiliers connaissent cet architecte de renom. Et pourtant, né dans les Ardennes, il est difficile d’imaginer que ce Monsieur est à l’origine de plus de 60 plans de voiliers dont des références comme le Mousquetaire, le Corsaire ou le Vaurien. Il découvre la voile en région parisienne et devient vite un des meilleurs régatiers français et représentera son pays aux jeux Olympique de 1932 à 1952. Il construira le voilier Argonaute pour l’école des Glénan, après la guerre. Les principaux voiliers de Jean Jacques Herbulot : CorsaireMousquetaireCaravelleVaurienBeaufortCap Horn Eugène Cornu (1903-1987) Eugène Cornu est moins connu que son compatriote du moment, Jean jacques Herbulot. Ce lorientais a pourtant, lui aussi, marqué l’histoire de la plaisance. Baigné dans la construction navale, à Saint-Nazaire, il commence sa carrière en dessinant des petits dériveurs de régate, avant de travailler pour le chantier Jouët, en région parisienne. Il travaillera aussi beaucoup pour les chantiers bretons Pichavant et Constantini. Il est surtout connu pour être le père du Belouga, un petit voilier de 6.50m. Mais il a construit de nombreux voiliers en bois construits à l’unité. Des voiliers que des passionnés entretiennent avec passion. Il est aussi connu pour avoir été l’architecte du voilier de Jacques Brel. Les principaux voiliers d'Eugène Cornu : LicorneBelouga9m30 dont Naïade, un dériveur lestéDanycan, classé aux monuments historiques Benjamin Bénéteau (1859-1928) Benjamin Bénéteau n’a jamais construit de voilier de plaisance. Non seulement, il ne les a pas construit mais il n’a dessiné que des bateaux de pêche, dont le premier bateau de travail à moteur, en France. Alors pourquoi est-il dans la sélection ? Tout simplement car il a donné naissance au chantier vendéen Bénéteau que son fils, André, avec sa femme Georgina, vont transformer en leader mondial de la plaisance. Si c’est bien André qui a opéré la transformation, le groupe Bénéteau n’existerait pas sans le père, Benjamin.

Les architectes ci-dessous ont été des acteurs du développement de la plaisance, dès la fin des années 60 puis après. Sans eux, la plaisance d'aujoud'hui ne serait sans doute pas la même. Michel Dufour (1930-2003) Michel Dufour est un ingénieur, avant d'être un architecte de la plaisance. Il est, incontestablement, un des pères de la voile populaire et un des principaux artisans de son développement. Son chantier naval, portant son nom, a été le plus gros constructeur européen, au début des années 70.  Il a popularisé la voile comme les anglais l’ont fait à une époque. A la fin des années 60, ce fin régatier dessine des bateaux qu’il mènera lui-même à la victoire. C’est la naissance du Sylphe et de l’Arpège. Ses bateaux sont réellement novateurs pour l’époque, que cela soit au niveau architectural comme au niveau industriel. Par la suite, il donnera naissance au Dufour 35, un voilier de voyage très efficace. La suite sera plus classique, avec des voiliers plutôt fades. Maurice Edel est considéré comme le grand maitre de la petite plaisance. Il crée l’usine du même nom à Décines, près de Lyon, en 1956. Après des débuts dans la construction de petits voiliers en bois, il se lance dans la production polyester. Le chantier proposera le tout premier voilier en plastique, en France. Le Grand large sera présenté au salon d Paris, en 1961. Il s’ensuit tout une série de petits voiliers transportables qui marqueront la plaisance par leur ingéniosité. En 1981, Maurice Edel s’associe à Sylvestre Langevin pour proposer de gros catamarans, dont l’Edel cat 42 ; élu bateau de l’année en 1991. La fin de l’histoire sera plus compliquée avec des ventes décevantes  et des faillites. Au fil des années, il s’est intéressé au dessin et a commencé à faire évoluer les plans de ce dernier. Cela donnera naissance au Challenger Scout et au Super Cha. 300 unités du premier seront construites de 1970 à 1979. Par la suite, il se décide à dessiner ses propres bateaux, construit au chantier Jullien. La gamme de Challenger qu’il propose est l’archétype du voilier accessible et sécurisant. Ils sont insubmersibles, agréables à naviguer, voire vif et réussi au niveau design. Ces bateaux ont leurs adeptes. Le Challenger Micro, un des voiliers les plus populaires de la classe, est construit à plus de 1000 exemplaires. Les principaux voiliers de jacques Gaubert: Challenger ScoutChallenger MicroChallenger BravoChallenger Horizon André Mauric (1909-2003) André mauric est plus un habitué des dessins de vedettes pour l’administration que de voiliers de plaisance. Ce n’est qu’à la fin de sa carrière qu’il s’est intéressé à la plaisance. Et pourtant… La plaisance française ne serait pas ce qu’elle est sans lui, c’est une évidence. En 3-4 réalisations, il a lancé l’histoire de l’industrie nautique en France. Pour commencer, André Mauric se fait un nom avec le Super Arlequin, pour le chantier Quéré et le Delph 32, des voiliers qui connaissent la gloire entre 3 bouées. Au début des années 70, il dessine ni plus ni moins que Pen Duick VI. Mais c’est en 1977, il a alors 70 ans, qu’il crée l’histoire d’un chantier, avec le First 30, premier du nom. En fait, c’est André Bénéteau qui reprend les plans de son »Impenssable ». 40 ans après, le bateau est toujours recherché. Par la suite, il donnera naissance au Melody. Dans le même temps, l’architecte néerlandais est connu pour avoir dessiné de nombreux voiliers de série à succès, notamment pour le chantier belge Etap yachting et l’allemand Dehler. Philippe Harlé est sans doute une des figures les plus connues de la plaisance. Cet architecte naval a signé plus de 200 plans de bateaux dont des énormes succès populaires comme le Sangria ou le Muscadet. Sa rencontre avec la mer se fait lors des stages à l’Ecole des Glénan, ou il devient chef de bord puis permanent. Il participera d’ailleurs à la première édition du cour des Glénan. Sa carrière d’architecte commence en 1963, avec le Muscadet, pour le chantier Aubin. Cet extraordinaire succès sera, très rapidement suivi de ceux de l’Armagnac et du Cognac. La légende est en route. La plaisance française, et mondiale, ne serait pas la même sans lui. Après les dessins de l’Edel 3, il dessine le Sangria pour le chantier Jeanneau, puis le fantasia. En 1982, il est rejoint par Alain Mortin. Jean marie Finot et Pascal Conq sont les autres grands architectes populaires, avec Philippe Harlé et Alain Mortain. Jean Marie commence sa carrière par un passage chez Philippe Harlé, justement. Il se fait connaitre en proposant un voilier qui va devenir une des stars de la course-croisière : L’Ecume De Mers. En 1970, le chantier Mallard en assure la production. Le bateau connait un succès immédiat, remportant  la Quarter Ton Cup. Il sera ensuite choisi pour la première édition du Tour De France à la voile. Dès lors, l’aventure du Groupe Finot est lancée avec l’image d’un cabinet qui porte un grand soin aux détails pour l’agrément en navigation. Jean marie Finot sera appelé par tous les chantiers. Il sera présent pour dessiner les voiliers Comet, toute une gamme de voiliers pour le chantier Mallard. Il sera remarqué pour le très novateur Aloa 29, et sa cabine arrière. Le chantier Bénéteau fera appel à lui pour le First 18, puis le 22. Jean Marie Finot sera le premier à utiliser l’informatique pour ses dessins. Rejoins, en 1985, par Pascal Conq, le cabinet n’a jamais cessé de lancer des voiliers à succès comme le First 210 ou le Pogo 40. Les architectes qui ont créé un pont entre la course et la croisière

Certains architectes ont surtout apporté à la course au large et à la régate. Mais approché par des chantiers de grande série, ils ont apporté leur vision et leur compétences à la plaisance. Ils ont fait évoluer les carènes des voiliers de croisière. Certaines de leurs création ont créé l'histoire. Gilles Vaton Gilles Vaton est un architecte quimpérois qui vit maintenant à Marseille. Son passage dans la plaisance n’est pas été assez long pour qu’il puisse se faire un nom et être connu de tous les plaisanciers. En effet, cet architecte est surtout connu dans le milieu de la course au large. Il a dessiné Adrien, le bateau de Jean Luc Van Dan Heede., qui a battu le record du tour du monde à l’envers, ou encore des foilers et des carènes pour la coupe de l’America. Pourtant, un de ses bateaux est une référence. Il s’agit du kelt 850. Lors de sa sortie, en 1984, le bateau a fait sensation. Très en avance sur son temps, avec son étrave plutôt droite et arrondie a surpris. Le bateau a connu un énorme succès commercial et d’estime. Les voiliers les plus populaires de Gilles Vaton : Kelt 850 et Feeling 306.Feeling 346Feeling 286 Holman & Pye Cette signature est une des plus importantes en grande Bretagne, à l’image de Nicholson. Mais le cabinet Holman & Pye est surtout connu en France pour sa participation au développement du chantier Wauquiez. Dés le début, Henri Wauquiez fait appel au cabinet pour dessiner des deux premiers modèles, les Elizabethan 29 et 35. Ensuite viendront le Victorian puis le célèbre centurion 32. Le cabinet se démarque par son style très british, résolument classique et élégant. Les voiliers les plus populaires du cabinet Holmine & Pye : Elizabethan 29 et 35.Centurion 32Amphitrite Ron Holland Ron Holland est un architecte néo-zélandais. Sa carrière dans la plaisance fut assez brève. Il se fait remarquer, à la fin des années 70, grâce à ses half-tonners qui trustent les podiums. Il est vu comme le petit jeune qui bouscule les classiques dans de nombreuses classes IOR. En 1977, il prendra même la place de Stephens pour la gamme de voiliers Swans. Les chantiers français et anglais le repèrent et font appel à lui pour des bateaux de grandes séries comme les Nicholson 32, le Rush, les Feeling 1100 et 1350. Par la suite, dès le milieu des années 80, il se concentrera sur le yachting. Les voiliers les plus populaires de Ron Holland : Nicholson 32RushFeeling 1100 et 1350 Doug Peterson Parler de Ron Holland sans parler de Doug Peterson serait une erreur. Doug Peterson était un peu le grand concurrent du premier. Cet américain bouleverse, lui aussi, l’establishment du monde de la régate au début des années 70. En 1974, il remporte le championnat du monde de la One Ton Cup avec le Contessa 35. Il fera, lui aussi, un bref passage dans la plaisance avec les Contessa 35 et 28 ainsi que le Sun legend 41. Il sera ensuite appelé par différents syndicats pour des projets sur l’America’s Cup. Mais, comme Ron Holland, son passage  a été important pour l’évolution de la plaisance. Ces deux architectes ont créé un des cabinets les plus prolifiques. Jean Berret est un passionné de régate, encore un. Il commence sa carrière en dessinant des prototypes pour de nombreuses compétitions. Les résultats de ses bateaux lui ouvrent les portes des chantiers de grande série. C'est le chantier Yachting France qui lui fera confiance le premier en lui confiant les dessins des Jouet 550 ou 680, entre autres. Tout ira très vite ensuite. Il dessine les First 32 et 35 et le Kelt 7.60 est élu bateau de l'année en 1981. Au milieu des années 80, il est rejoint par Olivier Racoupeau. Depuis, le cabinet est un des plus importants d'Europe. A 24 ans, il dessine son premier succès, pour le chantier Jeanneau, avec le Symphonie, en 1978. Grâce à son père, Philippe Briand baigne dans la régate et les bateaux depuis son plus jeune âge. Il rencontre très tôt les amis de son père que son Philippe Harlé ou Michel Joubert. Dés 16 ans, il dessine son premier voilier, pour un constructeur espagnol. Ce passionné de régate et de belles carènes va vite se faire un nom dans le gotha international de la course à la voile. On ne compte plus les victoires de ses bateaux dans les courses les plus prestigieuses. Cela ne l’empêche pas, de temps en temps, d’offrir son coup de crayon pour la plaisance populaire. Il  dessinera des bateaux pour les chantiers Kelt, Bénéteau ou Jeanneau, avant de retourner aux grands voiliers. Les voiliers les plus populaires de Philippe Briand : SymphonieKelt 707Espace 1000EoliaOvni 30Sun Odyssey 32.1 Michel Joubert et bernard Nivelt Quand on parle plaisance et régate, il est difficile de ne pas penser à ces deux architectes que sont Michel Joubert et Bernard Nivelt. Ces deux hommes ont marqué de leur empreinte, le monde de la régate et de la course au large. Et comme ils sont généreux, ils en ont fait profiter les plaisanciers français.  Durant toute leur carrière, leurs noms sont associés à des multicoques et des 60 pieds. En 2009, ils signeront aussi le nouveau bateau du Tour de France à la Voile, le M34. Les plaisanciers connaitront surtout le Surprise, du chantier Archambault et… Leurs voiliers : SurpriseFunFlush pokerGib Sea 105AttaliaSelection 37LouisianeOvni 282 Jacques Fauroux Voilà encore un véritable régatier. Avant de se mettre sur la table à dessin, Jacques Fauroux est un grand champion de Moth (champion du monde à plusieurs reprises). Cet architecte se fait un nom en dessinant des prototypes pour la régate. Un des ces prototypes donnera naissance au Neptune 625, un excellent bateau vif et rapide. Il travaillera un temps pour le chantier Aloa, avant de créer son propre cabinet. On lui doit de grands succès populaires comme le Gib sea 68 et 90, qui auront leurs heures de gloire entre 3 bouées. Pour la croisière, on lui doit des références comme le Sun Rise ou le Sun Charm. Les deux hommes se rencontrent sur les bancs de l’université de Southampton, en Angleterre, à la fin des années 70. En 1983, ils s’associent pour créer le cabinet VPLP. Dés le début, ces deux architectes se passionnent pour la course au large. Leurs bateaux rencontreront rapidement de nombreuses victoires sur de nombreuses courses comme le Vendée Globe. Marc Van Peteghem & Voncent Lauriot Prevost sont aujourd’hui des références de La Course au large Leurs voiliers les plus connus: Lagoon 37Lagoon 42Lagoon 55 Daniel Andrieu Daniel Andrieu est un de ses architectes, passionnés de voile, qui font ce métier pour assouvir leur besoin de passion au maximum. L’architecte français aime les bateaux et cela se voit. Passionné de régate depuis son plus jeune âge, il commence sa carrière en 1981, après un bref passage dans la presse nautique. Dès ses débuts, il se passionne pour les dessins de bateaux qui vont vite. Son premier voilier sera, d'ailleurs un Quarter Tonner. Le chantier Jeanneau le repère rapidement et lui propose un projet, le Sun Light, qui sera produit à plus de 1000 exemplaires. Par la suite, il dessinera le Jeanneau One Design 35, bateau du tour de France à la Voile puis le Sun Fast 3200, star du circuit IRC. Ses voiliers : Sun LightSun Magic 44Jeanneau One Design 35

Les aventuriers et leurs voiliers tout terrain

Les architectes suivants n'ont pas tous donné naissance à de grandes séries de voiliers. Plus proches de la construction amateur ou des séries plus limitées, ils sont plus reconnus que connus. ces architectes ont une particularité. Les connaisseurs veulent un bateau portant leur signature, et aucune autre. Gerard Danson (1949-2005) Gerard Danson n’est pas l’architecte naval le plus connu en France, loin de là. Pourtant, cette figure de la plaisance est indissociable de l’histoire du multicoque dans le monde. Gerard Danson commence sa carrière au chantier Conanti ou il dessine, entre autres le…. En 1984, il décide de proposer, et construire, lui-même un multicoque. Il sera rejoint par quelques grands spécialistes pour créer un chantier de catamarans. Celui-ci se nommera Ateliers Outremer. C’est le début d’une fabuleuse aventure. Les catamarans Outremer deviennent vite des références. Bien construits, ces bateaux sont élégants, rapides et pensés pour la grande de croisière. Il sera le premier à imaginer des multicoques légers, aux coques fines et au fardage limité. Il décède en 2005 mais les bateaux qu’il a dessinés restent encore, aujourd’hui des références et sont très recherchés. Ses voiliers : Conati 31Outremer 40Outremer 45Outremer 50 Sylvestre Langevin Voilà un véritable touche-à-tout, Sylvestre Langevin est un architecte qui a accompagné de très nombreux candidats au grand départ. Il a dessiné de nombreux voiliers de voyages en aluminium, en contre-plaqué ou en acier. Pour la plaisance, en série, il a surtout dessiné la gamme Edel cat, pour le chantier du même nom. En dehors de la plaisance, il a donné naissance  au catamaran Elf Aquitaine, en 1982, qui rempotera la Route du Rhum. En tout, il a dessiné près de 300 bateaux. Ses voiliers : Edel Cat 26Edel cat 35 Erik Lerouge Il y a des noms qui sonnent comme des références. Quand on pense à Erik Lerouge, on ne pense pas à des chantiers, on pense à ses dessins. Certains plaisanciers, connaisseurs, ne recherchent pas n’importe quel bateau, ils cherchent un « plan Lerouge ». Erik lerouge est connu pour ses voiliers qui sortent des sentiers battus. Avec lui, le confort, c’est surtout le confort en mer. Plus qu’un anticonformiste, il est surtout un architecte qui ne fait aucun compromis avec la navigation. Ses catamarans, souvent construit par le chantier Soubise sont très recherchés. Ils mettent l’accent sur la vitesse et le plaisir sous voiles. Il a aussi proposé plusieurs modèles en construction amateur. Ses voiliers les plus populaires : Ville Audrain Freydis 46Apocalypse Henri Amel (-2005) Quand on parle d’Henri Amel, et des bateaux Amel, ce n’est pas l’image de voiliers populaires qui nous vient en premier. Et pourtant, il fait partie de l’histoire de la plaisance populaire. Après plusieurs petits boulots, avant et après guerre, Henri Amel crée son chantier, près de Lyon. Il propose son premier voilier, le Mistral, en 1958. Une très belle carène, très bien construite. Il est le premier à proposer des bacons avant et arrière, de série, sur tous ses voiliers. En 1967, son chantier passe un cap en s’installant à La Rochelle et en proposant l’Euros, qui donne l’esprit du chantier pour des années. Presque aveugle, il se fait accompagné de Jaques Carteau pendant toutes les années qui suivront. Ce grand personnage, parfois controversé, donnera l‘entreprise à ses salariés, lors de sa retraite. Les voiliers les plus populaires d’Henri Amel : MistralEurosKirkSuper MaramuSantorin Jean Pierre Brouns Jean Pierre Brouns est un architecte belge dont les bateaux symbolisent l’aventure et le grand voyage. Dans les années 70, il rejoint Patrick Van God et son père pour lancer la gamme de dériveur de voyage Trismus. Ce nom est synonyme d’aventure et de rêve pour de nombreux candidats au grand départ depuis les années 80. En 1981, il s’installe en France et continue son aventure dans le dessin de voiliers de voyage. Il conserve toujours cette philosophie de bateaux simples et costauds. Il s’intéresse notamment à l’alu et l’acier. Aujourd’hui, c’est la gamme « Petit monde » qui fait parler d’elle régulièrement. Ses voiliers : TrismusEolis 9.99Kowex Gilbert caroff ( 1946-2016) Gilbert caroff est l’autre architecte dont le nom est associé à la construction amateur et aux voiliers de voyage. Il a dessiné plus de 120 bateaux en 30 ans de carrière, en acier, aluminium ou contre plaqué. Il sera le premier à oser le salon de Pont sur un bateau. En série, on lui doit la célèbre gamme de voilier Chatam. Les principaux voiliers de Gilbert Caroff : ChatamAtlantiscatamarans Lazzi Bernard Veys La carrière de Bernard Veys se résume à deux bateaux de génie. Le premier est le Serpentaire. Ce petit voilier en contre-plaqué est ni plus ni moins que le premier vainqueur de la mini-transat. Et pour la petite histoire, ce voilier était d’abord pensé pour la construction amateur et la croisière en famille. L’autre voilier qui restera dans son histoire est le Tilapia. Ce voilier est proposé par le chantier Ocqueteau. Il se démarque par sa simplicité avec son gréement. Simplicité et efficacité, voilà les deux maitres mots de Bernard Veys qui proposera aussi des voiliers de voyage.

Et aujourd’hui ?

Et aujourd'hui, l'histoire continue. des architectes de talent, passionnés et réellement aussi novateurs que leurs pères continuent d'innover et de proposer de magnifiques voiliers. Je pense, notamment, à des architectes comme Marc Lombard et ses ou Pierre Rolland et ses pogo et bango . Microchallenge: Work Today - Result 1

So my challenge was to plan what I eat, drink lots of water and not to pick at foods! 

I did pretty well, not perfect but definitely better than yesterday at work! It wasn't until after I'd had my break and the little snippets of brownie came in that I let slip a little and ended up dowsing them and christmas pudding in creme englais... oops! Oh well, I'm not going to pretend I'm perfect, a challenge is a challenge for a reason and I guess that tomorrow at work I'll have to take the same challenge!! Hence I have titled this post 'Results 1' as I will keep challenging myself until the challenge is complete!

I think its important to fail sometimes, it gives you more motivation and determination for next time around and as my school principal loved to say 'Learn to fail, or fail to learn'

So, bring on next time and until then stay positive and motivated.
