So I learned something about Sauron's Ring
Gandalf was right. The Ring is altogether EVIL!
This just goes to show you how much I need to read the books. I heard it through the grapevine that according to Tolkien himself, it's impossible to destroy the Ring willingly. Whoever possesses it falls victim to its power, making the bearer want it more and more, and the closer you get to Mount Doom, the stronger that want for the Ring becomes.
(SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT)
This is why, ultimately, Frodo's struggle with Gollum was necessary. The Ring was destroyed when Gollum accidentally dropped it into the fire (or fell in the fire with it in the movie.) How crazy is that?

Shadow of War’s Celebrimbor feels so much like Fëanor to me actually. And now I’m mad because the idea of Fëanor making his own ring of power, and then instead of dying, getting soul melded with a random ranger and puppeting him like the rat from ratatouille all while yelling about getting his palantirs back and how he’s gonna kick Sauron’s ass would have been an objectively better and funnier game.
