Power Ranger Colors and What They Mean (According to the TTRPG)
I got my hands on the core rulebook for the Power Rangers Essence20 TTRPG and I wanted to share the information in both the core rulebook and the A Jump Through Time expansion book pertaining to the Morphin Grid colour spectrums. The Morphin Grid chooses rangers based on their distinctive personality, with the spectrum selected being best suited to them.
All text in quote marks is directly pulled from both the Power Rangers Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook and the Power Rangers Roleplaying Game: A Jump Through Time sourcebook.
Red Spectrum: The Leaders
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Born leaders and warriors through and through, candidates chosen to embody the noble spirit and fighting prowess that each Red Ranger uses to stand proud and strong in the front lines of their Ranger teams. They are fearless fighters that show their teammates how to defend the Morphin Grid personally. Ready with their firsts, their blades, and an inspiring show of leadership, Red Rangers are almost always the first into a fight.
Stand Tall and Fierce! Red Rangers personify the kind of proud nobility and martial skill prowess it takes to lead a Power Ranger team. Subtlety and subterfuge are not the kinds of skills that tend to be important to a Red Ranger, as their candidates are chosen for their ability to think on their feet and solve problems directly rather than trying to find ways around them. Red Rangers are, by no means, unintelligent or ignorant. They just tend to excel at taking trouble head on.
Always Ready to Help. The strength and sanctity of the Power Ranger team is, at their core, where a Red Ranger draws its strength. Their fighting styles revolve around teaming up on enemies, dealing decisive blows after a teammate has softened them up, and either serving as the core of a team's Grid Zord Megaform, or alternatively, standing back to back on their own fighting Zord with a Megaform made up of the rest of the team!
A Long and Noble Line. Stretching as far back as to when the Morphin Grid has needed them, Red Rangers have had a place on their most successful champion teams. Across dimensions and across time, those noble warrior leaders have all had the same ideal embossed on their very core: the team comes first, and its enemies cannot be allowed to harm its members. Even if a Red Ranger has had to put themselves directly on the line in the name of their teammates, they would do so gladly for the sake of their friends."
Blue Spectrum: The Thinkers
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Those chosen to embody the energy of the Blue Ranger will be the closest member of the team to the inner workings of the Morphin Grid itself. Candidates for becoming a Blue Ranger are selected for their brains far more than their fighting skills, choosing to use the Morphin Grid's many facets to design all of the tools, technology, and special equipment the team might need. If it runs on the Power within the Grid, the Blue Ranger is likely to be the one to decipher, understand and ultimately help the team wield it against the forces of evil.
Team Technician. Blue Rangers embody the Morphin Grid's ability to design and create constructs and devices using millennia of knowledge from around the universe. They are the most likely member of the team to discover an alien item, piece of technology, or special construct that will help solve the problem or overcome and obstacle. While other teammates might spend their time working on new fighting techniques or Zord maneuvers, a Blue ranger is probably seeking knowledge about the past to better deal with the future.
Brains Over Brawn. Unlike candidates chosen for other colors of Ranger in the Spectrum, people chosen to be Blue Rangers are rarely looked at save for their most basic fighting abilities or combat instincts. Instead, they are chosen for their brilliant minds and the ingenuity they bring to the team. Blue Rangers embody the logical calculation it takes to see a victory and how to achieve it before the first punch is ever laid on a Putty. As a Power Ranger they will have to battle the forces of evil, but they personify the idea of fighting smarter, not harder.
A Stoic Role. For as long as there have been Power Ranger teams, the Blue Ranger has not only been the technician and the inventor for their teammates, but also the stalwart memory of the Morphin Grid itself. The history of all that has gone before flows through the color of the Spectrum and this is personified in not only their abilities and skills, but in the beasts and creatures from which their Zords take shape. They are animals that embody wisdom and mysticism; the triceratops, the unicorn, and sphinx are all infused with the Blue Ranger's energy."
Black Spectrum: The Charmers
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Rangers that are imbues with the Black energy of the Morphin Grid tend to be social charmers, entertainers, and the real life of the party. They are the personification of team unity, and a lot of what they do helps keep the bonds between members strong and tight. Black Rangers are equally adept at fighting back to back with their friends, showing that the team comes first and always ready to stand up for any part of it.
Dance, Song, Jokes. One collective way that Black Rangers tend to reach their teammates with their special brand of reinforcing positivity is through light-hearted behaviors not commonly found in a staunch warrior. Whether that is through telling one liner jokes, harmless limericks or rhymes, singing pleasant tunes, and maybe even just showing with a little personal dance, Black Rangers connect their team members to themselves and each other.
Good Leaders. When a Ranger more dedicated to leadership, like a Red or White Ranger, isn't available for the team, Black Rangers often step up and take the role. Their dedication to team strength and cooperation put them in a great place to make collective plans, and their teammates rarely have reason to question what motivates a Black Ranger. While they tend to be the glue between their team standing at its forefront is just as natural to them.
Stalwart Anchors. A Black Ranger's Zord, whether it hails from the depths as a Dinozord or even a humanoid Shogunzord or Battle Borg, represent being a defensible root or anchor for the team's other Zords. Animal shapes are often tough, armored, quadruped beasts known for their ability to withstand tremendous adversity. Humanoid Zords are thick-limbed and wield heavier weaponry. Vehicular Zords revolve around being a hard punch, and anvil upon which the other rangers in the team can rely."
Yellow Spectrum: The Artists
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Chosen for their understanding of the arts, both creative and martial, candidates to accept the power of the Yellow Ranger should be clever, witty, and full of originality. They are fast thinkers and just as fast on their feet, able to judge where best to apply their skills and get there quickly to do so. The Yellow energy of the Spectrum chooses those with adaptable minds and agile hands to wield its power. Yellow Rangers are not the hammer in the toolbox, they are the paintbrush. Instead of apply a direct single solution that may pass or fail in one fell swoop, a Yellow Ranger is drawn to using many smaller applications of their skills to build up to a more certain solution.
Soul of the Team. Where other Rangers of the Spectrum fill certain roles like inventor, leader or supporting healer, Yellow Rangers are like the water in which their boats sail upon. A Yellow Ranger is a friend, a confidante, and always ready to stand shoulder-to-shoulder or back-to-back with one or more of their teammates. Their team can count on them to be there, chipping away at and coming up with solutions for the same problems and obstacles the team might face.
Right Place, Right Time. Speed. Speed is part of what makes a Yellow Ranger able to be in many places at once, and capable of lending their help when it is needed most. Yet this is not the kind of speed that is measured in races and sprints. It is not mere how far they can run, it is the ability to act on the go, and put their skills to good use here, there and anywhere they are needed as they maneuver through a conflict.
Hands On Fighter. Yellow Rangers have the fastest hands and feet on a Power Ranger Team. While other Rangers might hit harder or at a distance, Yellow Rangers are empowered to strike fast and furiously up close. What another warrior might inflict with a single blow that could be turned aside or dodged, these Rangers strike from every different angle. Their foes are worn down in seconds, and they might never have realized where the tidal wave of blows ever even came from."
Pink Spectrum: The Sharpshooters
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Infused with one of the supporting energies in the Spectrum, Pink Rangers are warriors that specialize in backing up their team from the rear ranks. They are archers, snipers, and markspeople of the highest caliber. When a Pink Ranger is on the team, the rest of their allies can always fight confidently knowing that a Grid-enhanced sharpshooter is watching their back.
Can't Catch Me! Pink Rangers are solid martial artists, but first and foremost they are ranged combat experts with numerous abilities and talents that benefit the team most when they are outside of the reach of an enemy. They are nimble, agile, and often chosen for their gymnastic talents. These skills are perfect for dodging out of trouble's way to get a better vantage point to pick off Putties and Tengas that might threaten their friends!
True Heart. It takes a lot of heart and trust in their teammates to stand in the rear or on the flanks, picking off enemies a few at a time instead of wading in and fighting back to back with their friends. They fill their team with hope and good will; sometimes with words, sometimes with actions. When a Power Ranger looks over their shoulder, whether it is at the local juice bar hanging out or in the middle of a field of Eye Guy's floating minions, and sees their Pink Ranger is watching, they can trust they are in good hands.
Best Defence. Pink rangers are light on their feet and lightly armored within their shell, but their energy and their training makes up for it by simply keeping the enemy from getting their hands on them. They duck and dodge most incoming threats, relying on their teammates to lend a hand when things get thick, but always taking down important targets as they dance, flip, and dart around the battlefield."
Green Spectrum: The Survivalists
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Possessing a rare wavelength of energy within the Morphin Grid, Green Rangers are the loners and the outsiders. They join with Ranger teams when they can, but still tend to work on the outside of operations and do so in a way to maintain the sanctity of the team concept. Green Rangers are ready for anything, whether they line up as part of a team or if they stand alone against the forces of evil.
Still Part of the Spectrum. The Green Ranger was once unleashed by General Repulsa as a weapon of her own, but it took her ancient arcane powers to do so. This goes to show that the Green Ranger is not a pawn to be pushed around, but instead a powerful part of the Morphin Grid, same as any other. They just might seem to play on their own better than other members of their team. They are the rogues, the wildcards, and they are good at playing by their own rules.
Fight Hard for Victory. Green Rangers, whether they have a Power Ranger Team to fall back upon or not, have an uphill battle to prove themselves worthy of the gift that has been placed upon them. They are skilled fighters that take on threats that entire teams might try and face, normally long enough to get the rest of the team involved to achieve victory. Their fighting styles might be less conventional than other Rangers, but no one would argue that it doesn't get the job done.
Unique Connection. Being apart from the common Spectrum for as long as it had been, the Green energy wavelength has a different and truly unique way that it interacts with the Morphin Grid. It can seamlessly bond with other rangers to be a part of a team, linking its Grid Zord to one or more other members' to form specialized Megazords in some cases, and staying separately devastating when they do battle on their own. It is as if the Morphin Grid itself understands the wildcard nature of the Green Ranger and has adapted to it accordingly."
Orange Spectrum: The Creatives
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"The Orange energy of the Morphin Grid's Ranger Spectrum embraces the power of imagination, inspiration, and artistry. Orange Rangers are filled with personality and creativity, along with the flexibility to improve their team. They tend to be inventors, artists, creators of ideas, and dreamers. Their flexibility lets them fill any need or position on the team, especially if the work allows them to set their creative mind to completing their task in some new and exciting way.
Creativity Rules. The Orange energy of the Grid attaches itself to creative mentalities. It then enhances their ability to think outside the box and gives them the power needed to wield it on behalf of the side of good. They find new ways to accomplish tasks or overcome obstacles, often improvising or taking unorthodox paths.
Team Player. Even though an Orange Ranger excels when working alone due to their powers of creativity, they can also boost the team in many ways. Orange Rangers see the abilities and gifts of their fellow Rangers and, through the power of their part of the Spectrum, find more ways to wield them. When a team is hoping they need a particular proficiency or tool, even if they already have one but need two, an Orange Ranger can figure out a way to make that happen.
One of a Kind. Unlike many other kinds of Ranger, who maintain a physical image like the other team members, those wielding the Orange Spectrum alter their Morphin shell to express their creativity. This sort of individuality is rare for the core elements in the Ranger Spectrum."
Purple Spectrum: The Passionate
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Purple Rangers wield the power of the Grid through their emotions, primarily fueled by memories. All the hardships they endured, the people they loved, and the camaraderie of the friends they made fuel the forge of power inside every Purple Ranger.
Passion Power. Power Rangers know and understand the benefits of giving in to passion and keeping an emotional connection to all that drives them. Rage and anger can be necessary for enemy conflict, happiness can sweep away stressful hindrances, and the love of a best friend can make anyone a wall of defence when they are in harm's way. These feelings add to a Purple Ranger's power.
Make your mark. Each Purple Ranger draws upon their feelings in different and unique ways. One might lean into their rage and fury, showing their ferocity as an aggressive feel to their Morphed form. Another could stand defiantly in the path of harm, revealing how much they care for their fellows. Exactly how their feelings shape them is different for each Ranger, a sign that the Morphin Grid's energies also listen to their heart.
Always Adapting. The nature of most sapient beings is to feel, and just as feelings can change, so can how a Purple Ranger uses them. They might find roots in their anger or a foundation in the sense of calm, but how they apply those tools can change at a moment's notice. Purple Rangers are fluid and malleable, changing how they need to come at the obstacles and enemies in their way based on the situation and their feelings at the time."
Advanced Spectrum (White): The Purehearted
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Like the wavelength of light itself that it represents, the White energy of the Morphin Grid is like the raw energy pouring into the prism to be split into the necessary parts for the team to be at its best. There doesn't always have to be a White Ranger on a Power Ranger team, but it goes without saying that the teams that can draw on the pure and just power of their energy are some of the strongest the Morphin Grid has ever known. They are like a two sided-coin. One one side you have a strong and valiant leader, but on the other you have a noble warrior capable of standing against evil on its own.
Elevated Champion. Not just any candidate can become one with the White energy. They need to hold the concept of the Morphin Grid's power close to their hearts and stand is its very champion. White Rangers are not always the leaders of their teams, but they cannot ignore their will and desire to stand at the forefront and protect their teammates. A White Ranger will fight to the bitter end for their friends.
Valiant Leader. White Rangers frequently fall into the role of leading their Ranger teams, and their skills and abilities only augment this. They fight bravely, they defend fearlessly, and they orchestrate their follow Ranger to work together as a better team. The White energy in the Spectrum comes with a strong need to stand against the enemies of good, and those who wield it are often the legends remembered throughout history.
Ranger and Zord as One. Unlike other wavelengths in the Spectrum, White energy focuses itself thought the Grid using unique and powerful relics, like Tommy's beloved tiger-blade, Saba. This somehow connects the inner essence of the White Rangers to their Morphin Grid constructs tighter than that between a normal Ranger's Morpher and their Zord, Borg etc. This is why it seems that White Rangers bring new and special kinds of Zords to fight alongside those of their teams. Their Zords are just as worthy of leading the charge as they are."

I guess this Death Ranger situation is mostly frustrating because honestly the non-binary representation in these books just isn't great. We haven't gotten a non-binary human character, and the non-binary characters we DO get get a bad hand in terms of fate and/or inconsistency with their pronouns
Xi - a robot, flips between he/him and they/them depending on the issue
Yale - a tiger, flips between he/him and they/them depending on the issue
Ori - a Morphin Master, "dies" and becomes the Blue Emissary, who was only referred to as he/him before due to it being a retconned in backstory (so who knows if future Blue Emissary content will use he/him or they/them)
Journey - an alien, and a good, well-developed character, but ultimately dies in their debut story arc
Death Ranger - an alien, technically died? pretty consistently they/them until now suddenly we're flipping between he/him and they/them
I'm hoping Ranger Academy's Mathis breaks this cycle a bit, even if they might be an alien - at least they would be a human-looking alien. It's just annoying that a little bit of consistency is so hard to get

Billy Cranston x Skull (Eugene Skullovitch)
Part 2
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers fanfic
I honestly forgot to write a part 2 but then I randomly remembered and decided to do it. I honestly would say I would wanna take this in a more “heartstopper” type direction and keep it more PG but idk I might change my mind. I’m also sorry if there are any grammatical errors.I also changed it to dialogue format cuz it so much more easier😩.
CW:light hearted, one of the characters hyperventilates. Mentions of toxic friend
Tumblr media
It’s finally Saturday. It’s the day that skull gets to hang out with anyone but bulk and his other mean friends. Since that day when Billy saved him from the putties, he has slowly been starting to avoid bulk and flaking on the plans with him. And even though he has no other friends and was not even able to hang with Billy throughout the week since the only talk they got was them confirming this day's plans, he was alone. And somehow he still felt good. He spent the past few days sitting at home, listening to music and gluing studs onto his pleather jacket. He didn’t go out much but it gave him time to think to himself and feel comfortable for once. But now it’s time to finally hang with Billy at the mall.
Skull spots Billy as he is walking up to the angel grove mall. Billy is sitting on a bench reading a book. Skull decides that this is the perfect opportunity to jump-scare Billy. He slowly tiptoes up to the back of the bench and then jumps out behind him while screaming.
Skull: “RAAAHHH”
Billy: “AAAAHH”
Billy screams as he jumps up from the bench, dropping the book.
Skull: “Hahahahaha”
Billy(annoyed): “It's NOT FUNNY!”
Skull continues to laugh.
Billy soon joins in and starts laughing too.
Skull picks up the book off the ground, it seems that Billy was reading a science fiction novel about two best friends exploring alien planets together. Skull walks up to Billy.
Skull(while handing Billy the book): “You should’ve seen the look on your face HAHAHA it was so stupid and funny!”
Billy(annoyed): “WELL IF YOU SCARE SOMEONE LIKE THAT, UGLY FACES WILL BE MADE!”
Skull: “Haha you can’t deny I scared you good though.”
Billy: “Ok fine! You did!”
Skull: “You look so cute when you’re annoyed.”
Billy: “What?”
Skull realizes what he just said and decides to play it off like he didn’t say anything.
Skull says, acting as if nothing happened: “SO! THIS ARCADE YOU HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT, where is it?”
Billy pauses and then says: “It’s inside.”
They both walk into the mall. And they see a map of the mall near the fountain. They head up to the 2nd floor of the mall on an escalator. They reach and start walking.
Billy: “So, where have you been the past few days? I think I barely saw you and you only showed up yesterday to classes or at school at all.”
Skull: “Well I decided to take a break from school for a few days because I wanted to clear my head and just relax a little. That day I got attacked by putties kinda freaked me a little so I just needed rest and time off.”
Billy: “Well that’s nice. Rest is really important, especially after going through something like this.”
Skull: “oh and I also glued studs onto this jacket I’m wearing.”
Billy: “wow that’s so cool. I won’t say that I want to dress more punk but I do admire the fashion-forwardness of it.”
As they keep walking they see neon lights in the distance.
Skull: “hey I think that’s the arcade!”
Billy: “oh yes”
Skull grabs Billy’s hand and runs toward the arcade with him.
Billy: skull! Oh my god!!!
They both reach the arcade, out of breath, but ready to play games.
They both play Pac-Man and then skee ball together.
They then have a vs fight in Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. And then played some racing games together.
They walk out of the arcade laughing and having a friendly debate about which is better, Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat.
Skull: “I’m telling you! Mortal Kombat is so much more better and fun than Street Fighter.”
Billy: “Nope Street Fighter has better backstories for the characters and the moves are cool too. And the art style definitely has more thought out into it than Mortal Kombat.”
Skull: “Sure, but Mortal Kombat has BLOODSHED!”
Billy: “Well, Street Fighter has Ryu and Ken…
Skull: “well can rYu aNd kEn rip each other’s spines and hearts out?”
Billy sighs and admits defeat.
Billy: “Fine! You do raise a cool point.
Skull: “haha come on, I’m hungry.”
Skull grabs Billy’s hands again and starts running toward the food court. While running Billy says.
Billy: “COULD YOU STOP DOING THAT!”
Skull: “HAHA NOPE!”
They both run near the food court and as they are walking in Skull spots Bulk. Skull quickly runs out with Billy and stands in a corner.
Billy: “What happened?”
Skull: “Bulk is in there, I have been avoiding him for the past few days and if he spots me here with you he might just kill me!”
Skull starts hyperventilating. Billy tries to calm him down.
Billy: “Hey hey, it’s ok. We don’t have to see him. There is an ice cream place down the street maybe we can go there?”
Skull slowly starts to slow down, and starts breathing normally again.
Skull: “yea we can do that”
Billy nods in reassurance.
They both head out of the mall and go to an ice cream place.
Billy gets a double scoop with blueberry and strawberry.
Skull also gets a double scoop but with Oreo and butter scotch.
They both go to the nearest park and walk around talking to each other.
Billy: “So you haven’t met Bulk the past few days?”
Skull: “yea, I have been trying my best to avoid him. There were times when he would spot me and I would act like I didn’t hear him and just walk away. And the times he did get a hold of me, I would just make an excuse and leave.”
Billy: “so you’re just going to ghost him out of your friendship?”
Skull: “I guess so. Bulk is the kinda guy that thinks with his fists. So even if I do tell him how I feel, he won’t care and probably beat me up.”
Billy: “Wow, seems like bulk is a really shitty person.”
Skull: “What did you say?”
Billy: “what?”
Skull chuckles for a moment and then starts laughing.
Billy: “WHY ARE YOU LAUGHING?”
Skull: “HAHAHAHA, I have just never heard you swear before HAHA!”
Skull continues to laugh.
Billy(while pushing skull in a friendly way): “IT’S NOT FUNNY!”
Skull continues to laugh as they walk out of the park.
They continue to walk and talk to each other. Talking about comic books until they reach a beach. It’s almost dark and no one is at the beach.
They walk near the shore.
Skull: “Hey today was a lot of fun. Thank you for inviting me to hang with you.”
Billy: “don’t mention it. I had a lot of fun too and I’m glad you were here with me.”
Skull: “you know this is the happiest I have felt in a long time. It feels like shit when you’re just this mean person and have friends like bulk who aren’t all that nice to you either. And since I’m a bully no one really talks to me. But you at least tolerated me HAHA! And I’m glad to get to know you a little.”
Billy: “I’m glad you feel that way. And I’m also glad to get to know you a little. Makes me see you as a better person.”
Skull: “wait.”
Skull grabs Billy’s arm. He looks into his eyes and then puts his hand on Billy’s cheek. Skull closes his eyes and softly kisses Billy. Skull pulls away gently with a little bit of fear in his eyes, wondering if he made a mistake. Billy then puts his hand on Skull's cheek and pulls him into a tender kiss. Skull's fears go away. A wave rushes onto their feet but they don’t care as they kiss each other. Billy pulls away. They both smile and start laughing gently while blushing.
Skull: “Billy, I like you, and I know that we only talked for like 2 days but since that day you saved me from the putties, I haven’t stopped thinking about you. You made me feel something that none of my current friends could make me feel. And that was comfort. You made me feel comfortable to be around you. And you don’t have to say yes or anything-“
Billy: “I like you too.”
Skull gets an excited smile and picks up Billy off the ground and spins around. He puts Billy down and gives Billy a peck.
Billy: “How about you meet my friends? I know that saying how you feel to bulk might feel scary but maybe if you have nicer people around you will get more courage.”
Skull: “I don’t think your friends like me though.”
Billy: “I’ll convince them, plus they only know you as a mean person, they haven’t seen the more nice and more caring side of you yet.”
Skull: “Are you sure?”
Billy nods.
Skull thinks for a second.
Skull: “Ok then. But can we hang after school hours? I’m still not sure if I can be spotted with you and your friends at the moment. It’s not that I’m ashamed or something I just-“
Billy puts a finger on Skull's lips and tells him to hush
Billy: “I understand.”
Skull smiles.
They both walk home together.
Skull was blushing the whole time.

Power Rangers Rewrite Ideas/HCs
The Capital P-Power is sort of similar to the Force, basically the culmination of people’s idea of good, our best intentions given force and form through the power of the Morphin Grid, also called the Bio-Electric Field
That’s why the Morphin Grid is so (comparatively) rarely used for evil ends, and why the Rangers are fundamentally defensive guardians. It’s against its fundamental nature to be aggressive and cause knowing harm, and you can only twist it so hard for so long. They can be misled, though.
The force that the Masked Riders draw their powers from is technically a different expression of the Morphin Grid.
Dark Spector, meanwhile, similar to his BOOM Comics incarnation, is the inverse, a conscious manifestation of the collective idea of evil.
The Eltarians, at some point in the past, ascended to energy beings. I feel as if it was an accident. That’s why the Phantom Ranger is always wearing armor, and partially why Zordon is in a tube.
Zordon was explicitly a cultivator of Ranger Powers, stockpiling different Morphers and Zords to distribute to different Ranger teams as the war against Dark Specter that occurred 10,000 years ago raged on.
Older Ranger teams had humanoid Zords (The Omega Zords, the Aquitar Rangers’ Battle Borgs and Shogunzords, the Super Zeo Zords, the Turbo Ranger Rescue Megazord)
One unique feature I might incorporate is the ability of the Megazords to draw giant monsters into the Empty Space from Dandadan, allowing for harm mitigation and to keep monsters from escaping.
This is technically a multiversal story. I’m not sure how many dimensions there are, but there is the Mighty Morphin Dimension, the RPM Dimension, the more Japanese Sentai verse, a few different Kamen Rider Universes, a universe where the MM Rangers never existed and Tommy Oliver was only the Dino Thunder Black Ranger, and some universes with different Ranger teams.
Earth is slightly more advanced due to the discovery of Alien tech, including certain artifacts on the moon…

I finally got Tommy’s long ass list done. That was fun lol 🙄🤣 no, in all seriousness it was it just took. Forever. Now I’ve only got Zack (who is half done) and Aisha and the og (and Matt) Mighty Morphin teams are finished. Then Trey and that’ll be Zeo done as well!
I am going to rewatch Zeo and Alien Rangers to get a sense of the personalities (sparse as they might be sadly) and I am absolutely rewatching Turbo and In Space to remember The Plot. It’ll be on my own time of course. The Nephew (from here on referred to as The Goober or Goober) doesn’t currently have an interest in anything but mighty Morphin so as I’m not waiting for him to branch out to the other seasons. And have been looking for an excuse anyway. Binge watching here we go~

Frontier’s relationship with Super Sentai
Tumblr media
Frontier is well-known -- and by well-known, I mean the staff has literally admitted it -- to be based off of Toei’s tokusatsu series Super Sentai. But what is Super Sentai, anyway? If anything, most people in the West probably know it as the original basis for Power Rangers (and Power Rangers will probably be their only real understanding of non-kaiju tokusatsu). But that doesn’t really have a lot in common with Frontier, does it? Well, you might be surprised.
Let’s take a look at Super Sentai as it’s known in Japan, and its relationship to Frontier and Digimon as a whole!
Much thanks to @digitalgate02, @demonoflight, and my other tokusatsu consultants who assisted in the making of this post.
So what is Super Sentai anyway, and how is it different from Power Rangers?
youtube
I don’t want to assume what people reading this post know and don’t know beforehand, but I at least imagine readers of this blog are more likely to be familiar with Power Rangers. Power Rangers’ relationship to Super Sentai is that it’s the American adaptation of Sentai, but the word adaptation” is a bit loose here. More specifically, it uses the suits, character designs, and battle footage from a given Sentai series, but exactly how closely it follows the premise of the original Sentai it’s “based” on will vary, and in many cases (including with the original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers), it won’t even remotely resemble the original premise at all.
Generally speaking, the main differences between Super Sentai and Power Rangers are:
While it’s not to say Power Rangers doesn’t have some degree of camp, Super Sentai takes the camp and marinates itself in it. Dramatic poses, over-the-top surrealist humor, explosions for no good reason, personal catchphrases, excessively noisy talking toys, and basically trying to be as outrageously silly as possible. In fact, Sentai series that don’t go hard enough on these factors often get criticized as “too bland”/“not fun enough”. A lot of these factors end up getting toned down in the transition to Power Rangers to give it more of a “cool” image (case in point, Power Rangers exists in the first place because Haim Saban thought Sentai was “weird”), and it’s to the point where certain Sentai series with “absurd” enough premises like ToQger and Kiramager are suspected to be impossible to market as Power Rangers because the Western market will consider them too cheesy.
Most Sentai characters are adults (canonically adults, not just adults acting as teenagers). This means they often have the degree of societal freedom adults have, and, on the flip side, it means the series can often be more active about putting its characters through harsher plot events, up to and including permanently killing them off. This doesn’t happen as much in modern Sentai series, but it did happen with enough frequency in the past that Power Rangers (which is significantly more shy about killing characters off) would run into problems because they would run out of footage for a character whose counterpart had died in the original Sentai.
While there are still plenty of Sentai series with normal humans on its teams, Sentai will generally be more willing to have more outlandish premises for its background characters, such as ancient warriors emerging from suspended animation, angels, alien pirates, furries people from a race of humanoid animals, actual robots, and more. It also means it can have a lot more variation in premise; for instance, Kyuranger takes place entirely in interplanetary travel, and doesn’t touch on Earth very much.
Individual Sentai rangers will have names specific to their series; for example, Zyuranger’s Red is named “TyrannoRanger”, while Gokaiger’s Red is “Gokai Red”. Modern series will also often give them longer one-sentence titles to use during their roll call; for example, “The Sparkling Inspiration, Kiramai Red”. (Frontier’s “this Digivice will purify you” lines are probably somewhat meant as a callback to these.) In line with Sentai being very deliberately campy, the roll call is almost always dramatic and drawn-out, with a group pose, sometimes even a group title, and occasionally an explosion.
While Power Rangers did eventually concede to following Sentai’s take on it to some degree, barring minor things like crossover movies and special series, every Sentai series has had its own distinct premise and a change of cast since the very beginning, in contrast to Power Rangers which tried to have multiple separate Sentai series be adapted into one single continuity for several years. (This caused infamous trouble when the ninja-themed series Kakuranger and the absurdist comedy Carranger had premises and tones that were extremely incompatible with the other series Power Rangers was working with at the time, leading to the Power Rangers works based on Kakuranger and Carranger being extremely controversial.)
While this happens more with Sentai’s sister series, Kamen Rider, Sentai is considered enough of a cultural touchstone in Japan that actors will often be booked for it as a stepping stone to get more exposure and eventually break into the industry. While it does have a bit of kids’ show stigma, it’s still a staple of Japanese pop culture (as is tokusatsu as a whole), and so it doesn’t have nearly as heavy of a “weird corny kids’ show stigma” that Power Rangers unfortunately still has.
More broadly, tokusatsu is a genre that’s just very well known and accepted in Japan in general. The definition of tokusatsu is any series that relies mostly on practical effects in live-action, including rubber and spandex suits, and beyond just Super Sentai and Kamen Rider, there’s competitor company Tsuburaya’s Ultraman, and kaiju (giant monster) franchises like Godzilla, and even tons of other Sentai- and Rider-like transforming hero shows that most people in the West have probably never heard of (GARO and Kikaider, anyone?). The advent of CGI has made tokusatsu come off as “cheesy” in the modern era, meaning most of it has been relegated to the kids’ show arena, but nevertheless, it’s a genre with a rich and long history. And, of course, because it’s focused more on being bright, absurdist, and fun, it often has a lot of the same absurd “cartoonishness” you’d get from animated series -- which means it actually has a lot of influence on animated kids’ shows, especially Toei shows, despite not actually being anime itself.
Sentai’s influence on Japanese kids’ shows, on Toei works, and on Digimon as a whole
Super Sentai has been running continuously, with virtually no significant breaks, since 1975. In that sense, it’s probably one of Toei’s most historically successful franchises ever (its sister series, Kamen Rider, is probably a bit more culturally prominent in the long run, but it also suffered a long break between its Showa and Heisei periods). Every single year comes with a new premise and a new Sentai team, meaning that a vague set of tropes common to most Sentai series is embedded harder in the public memory than any one specific Sentai series.
And, of course, Sentai is a Toei series. It’s by their live-action department instead of their animation department, but nevertheless, Sentai has shaped a lot of Toei’s kids show formats and style. Even Sailor Moon exists in the form it does now because of Sentai; it would have been an anime adaptation of Sailor V if it hadn’t been for discussions about making a Sentai-like team of magical girls (which means that, by proxy, it influenced every other “magical girl team” series that followed it). Moreover, Digimon shares a lot of staff with Sentai; most prominently, 02 head writer Maekawa Atsushi went on to be the head writer for the very well-acclaimed Mahou Sentai Magiranger, regular Adventure/02/Tamers episode writer Urasawa Yoshio was the head writer for Gekisou Sentai Carranger, and Xros Wars head writer Sanjou Riku was the head writer for Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger (and this is even before we start getting into the shared individual episode screenwriters). In fact, 02 even referenced it for fun in episode 42 (note that “Sentai” is the Japanese word for “squadron”):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The reason these shows have so much in common is that Sentai’s precedent actually had a massive influence on Toei’s original children’s shows, including Digimon. In fact, a lot of what Western Digimon fans considered to be unique to Digimon, or difficult to get used to from a Western perspective, had been done by Sentai for years already:
Most significantly, the sheer concept of changing up the cast, premise, and tone every year had basically been standard form for Sentai (and of course, not just Sentai, but also other Japanese children’s shows from other companies, like Ultraman) for decades. The idea that the story you're watching will be wrapped up in a year was already a well-understood concept by that point, as well as the fact it allows a franchise to have more variety instead of beating a dead horse of a concept over and over. In fact, even the nomenclature of referring to different Sentai/Digimon/etc. series as “seasons” is a very American-tinted concept, because they’re not treated as seasons of the same show in Japan, but legally registered and acknowledged as distinct series that happen to be part of the same franchise (and considering the premise changes every year, it’s probably a more accurate way of describing it anyway).
The idea that the core group of protagonists will fundamentally be a team with each member on an equal level, and the idea that there would be specific “focus episodes” focusing on a given character or given relationship, is often thought by Western Digimon fans to be something that was codified by Adventure, but in actuality it’s been a staple of Sentai since long before then (and has also shown up in Toei’s other shows like PreCure). Debates about whether the Red’s been getting too much focus this year have characterized the Sentai fandom for ages.
Even certain tropes like “the red hot-blooded leader and the blue cool-headed rival” are heavily immersed in public memory thanks to Sentai.
The “sixth (not always sixth) ranger” -- the idea of having a solidifed near-equal group for most of the series, and then throwing a wrench in it halfway through with a new character who joins the group, often having turned from the antagonist side -- was of course made very popular by Sentai (and, of course, it being carried over into Power Rangers made it popular in the West as well).
Digimon’s way of using insert songs takes several cues from the way Sentai does it (and thanks to Sentai’s very luxurious budget, it has a ton of insert songs per series -- basically imagine 02 or Xros Wars level, except every year). In fact, most of the Xros Wars insert songs are sung by vocalists who usually sing for Sentai.
While Digimon and Sentai are, of course, still very different series in the end, you can see that a lot of the rough writing style consistent to many Toei series is based on the fact Sentai has had success with that kind of thing for decades.
Sentai and Frontier
Frontier is definitely the Digimon series with the most fundamentally derivative premise, being the only one to have human kids transform directly into Digimon (somewhat contrary to the base Digimon concept of having a human “raise” Digimon). It’s also infamously made Frontier a very hard sell for people who aren’t familiar with it, mainly because of concerns about the lack of partners, but one thing I notice is that the complaint “the idea of humans turning into Digimon is weird” comes up far more in the West than it does in Japan. This is just my personal speculation, but I think it’s because Japanese kids’ media is simply just no stranger to having human characters transform into inhuman heroes on the regular. Ultraman’s been running since 1966 and revolves around humans turning into giant silver aliens. The original Kamen Rider involved a modified cyborg, and in fact, many Sentai and Rider and other similar tokusatsu series treat the transformed form as not just humans in powerful suits, but a manifestation of them actually physically transforming into something. Of course, the West does still have things like that like the Hulk or Ben 10, but usually they come with a heaping of angst about the potential loss of humanity, whereas the idea of “yeah, that’s just part of the premise, roll with it and don’t worry about it” is a lot more common in Japanese works.
(Incidentally, there are actually some Sentai series where the team members will have their own “partners” similar to Digimon, usually in the form of cute robot mascots. Ironically, Power Rangers seems to dislike these, and they usually phase them out to be inanimate or feral in their adaptations, with Beast Morphers being a notable exception most likely due to how unavoidably prominent the Buddyroids were in Go-Busters’ plot. Power Rangers RPM infamously mocked the “big googly anime eyes” on the cars that originally came from Go-Onger’s versions being actual distinct characters.)
Frontier is a series from 2002, so it’s interesting in that the “Sentai” it took huge inspiration from is already very different from the “Sentai” we know now (more on this later). A lot of what Frontier takes cues from are tropes that were more common to the Showa era of Sentai, or the early 90′s works, and some of them were even on their way out by the time Frontier aired (but still well-known in the memory of the adult staff making the series).
There are at least two things that were more associated with Sentai back in 2002 than they are now:
While there are still Sentai teams with five or more members in total with only one being female, having two female members is generally considered more of the modern standard, but back when Frontier was being produced, there was outright pressure to not exceed one girl in a five-person group (for a series made for boys). This is actually the reason Adventure starts off with seven characters; they wanted more than one girl on the team, so in order to maintain a high ratio of boys to girls, they had to make a group as big as seven (no word on why this didn’t apply to 02). At the time, Sentai series with more than one girl on a five-person team were very rare -- this is something Power Rangers was a lot more diligent about from the very beginning -- but, ironically, right after Frontier finished airing, having two girls on a five-person team started becoming a Sentai staple. If Frontier had aired only a few years later, it’s possible there might have been another girl besides Izumi.
In one really unfortunate factor that hasn’t aged well at all, the idea of Junpei being the “fat character” is something that comes straight from early Sentai, where it would be a stereotypical trope where the yellow ranger would be a comedic fat character who loves eating (the archetype example being curry, coming from the very first series, Goranger). This was already on its way out by the time Frontier aired -- in fact, no Sentai series that aired after Frontier actually does this -- but for anyone who was an adult at the time Frontier aired, it was a well-known trope, and it’s why the Persona series also describes it in its Jetman parody. Despite some unfortunate things having been considered about Junpei’s weight back during development and during an interview in 2003, in a possible reflection of the times, Junpei’s finalized character arc in Frontier is already far more tasteful than the usual invocations of the trope (in that it treats him mostly like any other character and focuses more on his friendmaking abilities and practical intelligence), and the 2019 drama CD offhandedly mentions his weight without making a huge deal about it, so while your mileage may vary on how tastefully the final product came off as, it’s definitely far, far better than it really could have been given context.
Tumblr media
The Sentai series that Frontier most obviously takes after is Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, which aired in 1992 (ten years before Frontier aired). Rather fortuitously, it also happens to be the series that was adapted into the original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers -- but in Japan, Zyuranger has some cultural significance besides just happening to be the first series that got localized off in the West.
For some context, Sentai was actually on the verge of dying the year before, resulting in Zyuranger’s predecessor, Jetman, adding a ton of soap opera tropes and saving the franchise by getting the support of a lot of soap opera lovers into it. (Jetman is the one Persona references for its “Featherman” Sentai parody.) Nevertheless, the fact remained that Sentai had been doing poorly because people were a bit tired of how repetitive it was getting. Prior to Zyuranger, every Sentai series had a bit of a “sci-fi enhanced secret agent” plot, and so Zyuranger decided to change things up by being the first Sentai series with a more fantasy-oriented plot, allowing for Sentai to more drastically reinvent itself thereafter. Thus, the Zyurangers are warriors from ancient tribes who went into suspended animation to be ready when threats resurfaced in the modern day. Hmm, that sounds a bit familiar, doesn’t it?
youtube
The biggest dead giveaway that Frontier mostly takes from Zyuranger, however, is the fact that series producer Seki outright stated that Kouichi’s position as an enemy-turned-ally sibling of a major character was a Sentai-inspired element. When you look for which Sentai had this, it turns out Kouichi’s character story is a blatant callback to Zyuranger’s Burai. DragonRanger, Burai, was the long-separated older brother of TyrannoRanger Geki, with Geki having been taken away by the Yamato Tribe's royal family right after he was born. Burai fostered jealousy for his younger brother and followed him in suspended animation to take revenge. After Geki learned that Burai was his brother, the two reconciled, but Burai learned that he was already dead and on limited time, and spends his last moments giving his powers to his brother before he dies...wait, wow, this is really familiar, isn't it?
(Fortunately, Kouichi survives, but Burai wasn’t nearly as lucky.)
Burai was Sentai’s first example of a “sixth ranger” in the form we currently know the trope as, and just like his counterpart Tommy Oliver over in Power Rangers, the character inspired immense popularity and led to tons of other media, Sentai or otherwise, making use of the trope. Of course, Adventure and 02 had already used it in the form of Hikari and Ken, but Kouichi is such a blatant callback to the original Burai himself that it isn’t even subtle.
Modern Sentai
At this point we’re at a bit of a digression, but as I said before, as of this writing, Super Sentai has been running continuously since 1975, and that includes after Frontier’s time and well into the modern era. This means Sentai itself has already changed a lot in both style and in public perception. As I mentioned earlier, a lot of what people know Sentai for now wasn’t as much of a thing back when Frontier aired twenty years ago, so Frontier was based on a version of Sentai that doesn’t quite exist in the same way it does now. So what is Sentai now? What’s changed, and what hasn’t?
youtube
youtube
Well, it’s still running. Several things have been modernized, and while there’s a lot more CGI than it used to be (which has been a serious concern for veteran fans as time has gone on), it’s fundamentally still a practical effects franchise. While the process has been slow, the gendered color stereotyping has been slowly chipped away at; on top of making two girls on a five-person team a more regular occurrence, female characters have been associated with non-pink colors like yellow, blue, silver, and most recently green, and the most recent series (as of this writing) currently has the coveted male pink ranger (finally!). In general, the association of “this character’s color must have this kind of personality” is slowly starting to erode, and while red is still almost always the leader, different variations of team dynamics that aren’t just things like “hot-blooded red, cool-headed blue, comical yellow” are starting to appear, or at least it’s possible to see a bigger variety of different takes on them.
In 2000 (when 02 was airing), Toei rebooted its old Kamen Rider series into what’s now known as “Heisei Kamen Rider”, and Rider and Sentai became sibling shows on TV Asahi known as the “Super Hero Time” block. In 2004, a year after Frontier ended, Toei started its PreCure magical girl series, which gained a reputation for having the girls physically beat up their opponents, and since the three shows aired (and still air) back-to-back on Sunday mornings, they started gaining a collective fanbase in which it was commonly understood that being a fan of one made you very likely to be a fan of the others. Among the three, Sentai is the one most likely to be closest to the monster-of-the-week format and is probably the most formulaic of all of them (probably due to its long history being based on such a formula), but since all three series change every year, the dynamic between them will change depending on the year. The three series will also often cross-promote each other (especially Sentai and Rider, since they’re both tokusatsu), and, in what might be a bit of a depressing thing to think about, the three of them probably collectively represent the kind of thing Digimon could have been if it didn’t have such a troubled history.
In 2011 (when Xros Wars was airing), Sentai’s 35th series, Gokaiger, was produced as an anniversary celebration that involved crossing over every single Sentai series to date, with at least one actor from every series making some kind of cameo. Despite the fact this sounds like an absolute disaster in theory, the result was very well-acclaimed thanks to the strong central premise of space pirates who can turn into any ranger form in the franchise and use their abilities to learn what heroism is (in fact, the space pirates are arguably more popular than the actual crossover elements). In 2021, probably wisely figuring that it wouldn’t be a good idea to imitate Gokaiger too closely because everyone would keep comparing it, 45th Sentai anniversary series Zenkaiger took a completely different comedic approach to its crossover elements, which also ended up being very popular.
Of course, since the series has run for so long, there’s already been multiple generational changes with kids who grew up with the series becoming actors in the series themselves, and the franchise has its own branch of direct-to-video special movies (think similar to OVAs) targeted at adults who watched the series as kids, such as “10 Years After” specials that bring the original actors back for a short sequel movie. Amusingly enough, Kouji and Kouichi’s voice actors Kamiya Hiroshi and Suzumura Kenichi are huge fans of tokusatsu (even besides occasionally being in it themselves) and jointly run an official radio show called Kamen Radiranger, where they talk about the currently airing Sentai and Rider and interview some of the actors and staff in it. Part of this involved sneaking into the Kyoryuger dance ending theme, which of course led to a fanartist making a Frontier parody.
Unfortunately, however, things haven’t been looking very good for Sentai lately. While the most recent few series (as of this writing) have been critically acclaimed in terms of actual storywriting, in kids’ shows, toy sales are everything, and they’ve been on a very noticeable slump since 2015, made even worse by the pandemic. As a result, Sentai has been getting a bit desperately experimental with most recent series Zenkaiger and Donbrothers, and there are some genuine concerns that the series may finally die soon after all of these years (although, in a bit of bitter irony, it’s still doing a lot better than Digimon despite that). Of course, it being such an iconic cultural property gives it a bit of insurance from having the plug pulled on it abruptly, but there are definitely concerns. Time will only tell how things work out, but there’s no doubt that even the modern incarnation of Sentai, despite it having changed greatly from what it used to be known as before, still has a lot of core elements regarding its approach to ensemble casts, team balance, character color coding, and hero writing that are very important to the kids’ shows surrounding it.

Besides, the opening for the currently running series totally slaps.

Billy Cranston x Skull (Eugene Skullovitch)
Mighty morphin Power Rangers fanfic
I just thought it would’ve been really cool if Billy and skull became friends or maybe something even more than that. I have had that idea for a while now so yea. Sorry if there are any grammatical mistakes, this is like literally the first fanfic I have ever written. Anyways enjoy lols. Also idc what anyone says but skull gives heavy bisexual energy. Also this won’t really be anything over the top it’s just gonna be a friendly conversation I’m thinking of writing a part two.🤞
Cw: pretty light hearted, mentions of bullying and regret related to friendship.
It’s almost night time and billy had been studying in the library for the past 5 hours, yet he still doesn’t feel tired of reading, but he has to get home before it’s too late or his parents might freak. He packs up all of his books and starts heading home, but suddenly he hears someone yelling for help nearby, the noise seems to be coming from behind the school, he rushes to the back to find Skull surrounded by putty patrol. Billy throws his backpack and runs to the putty to kick their butts. He punches and kicks through them as skull is on the floor scared yet impressed. He soon beats all of them and the putties disappear into thin air.
“ARE YOU OKAY!?”
Billy says as he runs towards skull
“I’m okay”
Skull says as he is panting
“What are you doing here this late?”
Billy asks
“I should be asking that same question to you NERD!”
Skull says in a mean tone
There is an air of silence before skull decides to drop the bully act
“I was just walking home from a party we were having, I had to leave early because I had stuff at home, then I heard these weird noises nearby and when I checked I saw these weird alien looking thingies. They noticed me and surrounded me, but then you showed up beat them up.”
“Well I’m glad I heard you screaming in the distance.”
Billy says
“Screaming? No! You must’ve heard someone else! Haha!”
Skull says trying to act tough and pretending as if he wasn’t screaming like a girl 10 minutes ago.
“Sure. Just make sure that If you optically discern extra terrestrial creatures, you absquatulate.”
Billy says
“Speak English.”
Skull says
“Just make sure that if you see aliens aka putties or any other monsters, you run away.”
Billy says acting like he is talking to a child
“Yea I heard those power ranger people take care of them, not gonna lie their pretty cool.”
Skull says
“Great.”
Billy says as he starts walking away
“Wait!”
Skull says, Billy turns around to look at him.
“I know you live near my place, do you wanna walk home together?”
Billy pauses for a moment to think and then says
“Sure.”
Billy and skull start walking down the side of the road towards their neighborhood
“Hey I know I didn’t say it back there but, thank you for saving me.
Skull says in a more nicer and calmer tone
“Don’t thank me, it was only the right thing for me to do.”
Billy says
“I know but if I were you, I probably wouldn’t have helped considering how much of a douche I am to you and your friends.”
Skull says
There is a minute of silence before skull continues,
“I’m really sorry for how me and bulk treat you and your friends. I honestly regret it and the only time I actually have fun is when you end up making a fool out of bulk.”
Both of them giggle
Skull continues
“You know to be honest with you I regret having friends like bulk, because he could probably never apologize to you like this. His ego is too big for him to even start thinking of apologizing for the shit he does. Sometimes I wish I could go back to just being normal and not walking down the hallway thinking of who I’m gonna bully into giving me money next. I can only vaguely remember the time I wasn’t doing these mean things, I used to be a loner really, until bulk showed up and actually was nice to me compared to the other kids, I guess it was because we were both always treated like outcasts. But bulk was the first time I felt real friendship or at least what I thought was real friendship. And then high school came around and bulk changed into this horrible, ego filled, hateful dude, and instead of telling him how mean he was being, I just followed his footsteps. Come to think of it I really haven’t experienced true friendship with anyone in a long time, and you’re lucky dude you have all these friends that you could actually trust to have your back. I’ve dug myself too deep into this bully thing to come out of it now.”
“You can still come out of it!”
Billy says cheerfully
“It’s never too late to change, especially when you regret what you did. And I mean, you have already taken a great step at apologizing to me for your past blunders. You’re in the right track.”
Billy says and smiles at skull, skull smiles back. Billy continues
“Hey if you wish to, we can meet up at the mall this Saturday to hang out, I heard that there’s a new arcade there…….if you’re free that is. My friends aren’t free as they still haven’t finished their assignments and for the first time in forever I have no schoolwork to do, and I was looking for someone to come with me anyways”
“Sure. I owe it to ya.”
Skull says
They slow down as they approach Billy’s house. They stand in front of the door.
“Hey, I’ll try my best to actually stand up to bulk but I can’t make promises so if he is mean then make sure you really embarrass him, and I guess embarrass me too if I say nothing.”
Skull says. They both start giggling. Skull continues.
“But thanks, for being nice to me even though I kinda suck”
Skull says
“Don’t mention it. Thanks for apologizing, and I really hope you’re able to take more steps in the right direction, because you really are a more nicer person than you show.”
They both say bye before Billy walks into his house and closes the door
Skull walks ahead of Billy’s house, towards his house, smiling and blushing. He is very excited for this Saturday.

'THE LAST ENERGEM'

When you found the energem, you knew nothing about where it came from or the full extent of its power, nor did you want to know. All you knew was that it needed to be protected and hidden, so that's what you did. You found the energem before you met Chase, weeks before he came to work at the museum, so you had no reason to think he had found one too, or that more existed. When you started dating, and he suddenly disappeared to save the world, not that you knew that, of course, you would hear on the news that the Power Rangers had defeated another monster. He didn't know this yet, but every time he left abruptly, you assumed he was losing interest in spending time with you, although his apology dates made you think differently.
You were tired of him disappearing and after two weeks of secrecy you were determined to figure out where he was going. So you followed him all the way to the quarry. You left your car and ventured down the hill, surprised to see a large monster fighting two Power Rangers, blue and black. You gasped when the two Rangers were blown back a few feet, sparks coming from their suits which disappeared as they hit the gravel, revealing two boys you knew well. Chase and Koda.
The energem resting against your skin glowed as you instinctively raced towards Chase, calling their names as the monster stalked towards them. Chase lifted his head, eyes squinting weakly as he tried to see you better in the blinding sunlight. "Y/N, w-what - get out of here!"
The monster lifted his weapon and you felt stronger than you ever had before, feeling the effects of the morph as you held your arms up, shielding yourself and the two boys. Chase stopped trying to get to his feet, eyes widening when he saw the color of your suit, disbelief and amazement crossing his features, a grin forming on his lips.
"She has an energem." He chuckled from relief.
An energy field formed around you, and when Fury struck the shield, he was blown backward a few feet. You lowered your arms, surprised gasps, leaving your lips as you looked at the uniform. You turned to Chase and Koda, who were standing up, smiles on their faces. "You have an energem?" Koda asked.
"I found it a while ago, but I never knew that this...would happen." You explained.
Chase stepped forward, hugging you tightly. "I have a lot to fill you in on, but I don't want you on the front lines."
"Fury." Koda spoke up, making Chase instinctively move you behind him as the monster got to his feet.
"It's Morphin time." You watched in awe as the two boys morphed before your eyes, smiling as you stepped forward beside Chase, looping your arm with his.
"Not bad."
He chuckled, "All that flare, and it's 'not bad'?"
"Yeah."
"You haven't seen the last of me, Rangers." Fury warned before walking away, and you rolled your eyes, feeling your suit disappear.
"I just met him, and I already feel like I've seen too much of him." You crossed your arms, and Chase put his arm around you, demorphing.
"You'll feel that way with every monster you come in contact with." He said.
"What do you mean?" You asked, leading the way to your car.
"As much as I don't want you to be a part of this, the team needs all the help we can get." He explained. "I will tell you all about it on the way."
And he did; while you drove, you listened to the two boys as they tried their best to explain the situation they found themselves in, and you felt somewhat foolish for your past concerns. Now you knew where he was running off to every time, and if you hadn't listened to your friends, you might not have had the misunderstanding in the first place. He wasn't losing interest in you. He was saving the world from an invasion.
Later in the museum, you were waiting for Kendall to prepare you for battle, sipping on a milkshake as you let the information sink in. An alien bounty hunter named Sledge was trying to take over Earth. And the Power Rangers were the only ones who had a chance at stopping him, a group that now included you. As much as Chase hated the thought of you at the center of the battle, he knew with the right training; you would be a great Ranger. And the team needed all the help they could get against Sledge.
"What are you thinking about?" He asked, sitting across from you.
"It's nothing." You tried to reassure him with a smile, but Chase knew you more than you knew yourself sometimes.
He sent you a look that told you that he wasn't going to drop the subject until you caved, so you sighed softly, placing your milkshake down. "It's just; I never knew that you were out there, fighting these monsters that I saw on the news, that you were a part of something I would always talk about. When you kept running off or cancelling plans, I thought that..." You looked away, and Chase placed his arms on the table, leaning in closer with a frown on his lips.
"You thought that..."
"You were, I don't know, losing interest in me or something." You shrugged off, but Chase saw through it. He could see how hurt you had been, and his frown deepened.
"I would have told you, but I was sworn to secrecy." He said. "I'm sorry for making you think that." He took your hand in both of his, "But now, it'll be different. Just promise me one thing?"
"What?"
"Be careful."
"Always am. Besides, I have you looking out for me."
He smiled, leaning over to kiss you, and you heard a door open before Kendall said, "Chase, get back to work!"
You pulled away and stood up when she gestured for you to follow her to the base. "Duty calls." You kissed his cheek, "Love you."
"I love you too." He smiled, watching you walk away, smiling to himself.
"Chase!"
He looked at Kendall, who raised an eyebrow sternly, and he reluctantly went back to work, helping Koda in the kitchen.
There was a lot of preparation for you to go through before you could go into battle, but Chase knew that you would become a great Ranger, and that finding out you had an energem, that he could finally tell you his secret, was a big weight off his shoulders. And although he didn't like the thought of you out in the midst of chaos, he would have your back. Always.
