Ah, wow this is a hard one. Obviously secret plan to fight inflation is one. Both Thanksgiving episodes because I just watched the butterball hotline one yesterday ("Zip code for Fargo, North Dakota please"). The speech that Sam wrote in the car about the pipe bomb explosion ("they ran into the fire/the streets of heaven are too crowded with angels tonight"). Donna, Amy, CJ and Abbey getting drunk and Donna getting the Canadian Anthem and Mr. President being all - "I was gone for 5 minutes. They were all Americans when I left!" (🤣). Every single moment in Noel but especially the talk between Leo and Josh about the guy falling into the hole. Danny and his "I just want us to talk because I like the sound of your voice" moment because I am simply a soft romantic bitch. The White House going to California to be there for Sam's election and Toby staying behind because he doesn't want Sam to be alone even though everyone knows Sam is going to lose (🥹). Donna, Josh and Toby getting left behind in the s4 opening and Mr. President being all "if Donna wasn't with them they would have to buy a house". Josh sprinting through the WH to fly out to Germany the moment Leo gives him permission ("if there's somewhere else you'd rather be we'd all understand"). The whole Stackhouse Filibuster episode but especially the last 10 minutes ("we don't raise our hands in here"/ "though that's not a bad idea"). Ellie and the whole "the only thing you ever had to do was make me happy at the end of the day" final scene. Oliver Banish using his gravel to destroy the tape recorder when Leo and Jed tell him about the MS scandal. And of course, Bartlet cursing at God in Two Cathedrals ("yes I lied. It was a sin. I've committed many sins. Have I displeased you, you feckless thug?!?").

2. My three favorite characters and why I love them so much.

Hello hi would you like to hear about the best TARDIS team you've never heard of, right as I've fallen back hard into special interest fixation on them :D :D :D

So there's this book series.

After The Enemy Within, aka Doctor Who the TV Movie, premiered to an astounding lack of enthusiasm in 1996, BBC books decided to steal Virgin Publishing's idea to write novels about dr who, and promptly yoinked the license so they could cut out the middleman and do just that, this time starring Paul McGann's Eighth Doctor instead of Sylvester McCoy's Seventh. This novel series was called, aptly enough, The Eighth Doctor Adventures. So entirely skipping over almost three decades' worth of entertaining intrafandom drama and also how nu!who shamelessly stole basically every good idea the EDAs ever had (the biggest being of course the Time War, tho tragically nowhere near as well done), my favorite TARDIS crew:

The Eighth Doctor (as you may have guessed), Fitz Kreiner, and Anji Kapoor.

I love them, I adore them, they're my best friends. All three of them are amazing in their own right, but they're absolutely phenomenal as a team.

Eight, and the EDA version of them specifically, is my favorite doctor bar none. They're flighty and giddy and tactile and deeply affectionate, they're extremely weird and have a number hyperfixations and special interests and other very relatable neurodivergent tendencies. They are very prone to amnesia in a way which starts off as kind of a running gag and ends up being a huge plot point for the entire second half of the series. They're easily the most genderfluid the Doctor ever gets before textually being played by a woman and going by she/her, which is a big part of why I like using they/them pronouns for the Doctor generally. They kiss people often and canonically date people of multiple genders. Being played by (or at least written in reference to) Paul McGann, they are extremely pretty. They also go through the absolute fucking wringer, both in the sense that their arc plots are really dramatic and complicated and dark, and also in the sense that some of the folks writing for the series are pretty unapologetic whump fans lol. Best Doctor. No notes.

Next up is My BoyTM. The ur-blorbo himself, Fitzgerald Michael Kreiner. He's the best and I hate him. He's the worst and I love him. He's a musician from 1963 with appalling fashion sense and truly awful luck. He's canonically bi and in love with the Doctor (and their kiss in the novel Dominion in 1998 was the first kiss between the Doctor and a man in the history of Dr Who). He's a clone of himself because Eight lost the original Fitz 600 years in the future and then he joined cult of shitty time traveling mall goths. The original Fitz lived 2000 years and was filled with hate and wanted to kill the Doctor for abandoning him but never actually stopped loving them. He's a massive idiot. He's genuinely embarrassing so often but also despite thinking of himself as a coward and an asshole he's very brave despite his constant terror and very kind despite his pretending that he's only out for himself. He is such astoundingly perfect tumblr bait it's not even funny. He's one of the longest running companions in the franchise by number of consecutive stories.

Last of my darlings is the myth, the legend herself, Anji Kapoor. The first Asian companion in the history of Doctor Who, she's a stock futures trader from 2001 and to this day the only example I can think of off the top of my head of a woman of color having her white boyfriend get fridged for the sake of her emotional pain and character development. On the surface, she's the one with braincell, but she's so much more than just the white boy babysitter stereotype. She's a massive closet nerd who loves Star Trek but won't admit it, she's got a very weird thought process that makes her jump to the most absolutely batshit decisions while justifying them to herself as being perfectly reasonable and logical and not at all insane, she thinks of Fitz as a brother and the Doctor as a sister, she once called the Doctor a useless otterfucker, literally what can't she do (other than get back to her own time and planet rip).

The three of them have such a wonderful dynamic together. They're best friends and close family despite them being thrown together entirely by chance. They banter and joke and snark together, they riff off each other and enjoy each other's company, all three of them would catch a bullet for each other and all three of them more or less have. They're in a run of I think 25 books, which is a pretty significant time to spend together, and while there are some clunkers in their run ngl, they've also got some truly amazing books together, including one of my favorite books not just in the EDAs or Dr Who, but as a whole, The Year of Intelligent Tigers. I love them so so much I can't even.

I'm... not sure how accessible anything to do with the EDAs is give I fell off the DW deep end solidly a decade ago and at this point I just have to admit I'm in for life, but I have observed that most people who do read the EDAs tend to put 8&fitz&anji in at least their top five TARDIS teams, if not their first pick. Anyway, I love them, thank you so much for letting me gush about the best TARDIS team in all of Dr Who :D

I can’t actually watch The Borgias for Brain Reasons but like the Cesare/Juan/Lucrezia OT3 could have, well I was going to say fixed a lot but like it might not have but it makes sense.

omg when i tell you if anything i would want to inject into my veins, it's the borgia siblings ot3! as much as their power hungry amoralist dad loves them, the three of them have been trapped in his vicious cycle of ambitions and being played by him like pawns. they must appear to be the dutiful children who work to cement his legacy regardless of their desires and forcing them into tasks that they're incapable to fulfill. there's so much flavor in that ot3 and how the positions their dad bestowed each of them caused so much infighting and all. that being said, cesare/juan/lucrezia is the ot3 of all time hands down!!

Headcanon A:  realistic

Seven of Nine still prefer standing to sitting, especially when she's alone. But she spends a lot of time with other people she's trained her body to be comfortable with it.

But sometimes, especially in the days when she still had La Sirena and more space than she had in her tiny Ranger ship -- Emmet would find her just standing, especially the days when she needs to regenerate.

Seven finds it... comforting.

Seven can stand as still as a statute for long periods and even regulate her breathing to a standstill. On occasion, this has helped Seven in many occasions and caught various quarry this way.

Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious

Seven of Nine is still the bane of Chief Engineers everywhere and it's worse now that she's the Captain of her very own shiny Federation Starship.

Because if she's not at the conn, ready room, or mysteriously at the First Officer's quarters.

She is climbing into Jeffries tubes scaring the hell out of the Engineering staff. Or in Engineering, she's not not micro-managing, Commodore B'Elenna Torres stops by and the Chief Engineer subtly asks how to handle Captain Seven when she's Always Around.

B'Elenna only smirks at this information and says she'll talk to Seven.

B'Elenna does talk to Seven and threatens she'll stop helping with the tanswarp/slipstream drives if Seven doesn't stop trying to out-engineer the engineers. And it works, for a while. Before they leave Space Dock, the Chief Engineer receives 2 casks of Blood Wine. The real stuff.

It's gonna be a long shakedown.

B'Elenna is just smirking. Someone else will now know how it was like working with Seven— equal measure infuriating and rewarding.

Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends

There are things and people Seven misses after she leaves Earth and joins the Fenris Rangers fully --

Her Voyager family, the smell of coffee constantly permeating the Bridge and Janeway's Ready Room. (This is why Seven starts drinking coffee— not because she enjoyed it at first, it’s because she missed the sense memory of Coffee and by its presence, Janeway).

Her ability to call Neelix whenever it was needed. The Doctor and his many long-winded lessons, that she found out, he only just learned.

Naomi Wildman. Tuvok. Janeway.

She kept in regular contact helped by Icheb.

But the moment Icheb died all those connections she kept up slipped away.

She missed all of them but Seven committed to her life as a Fenris Ranger, even more, she committed to finding Icheb's killer and everyone responsible for Icheb being stripped for parts.

Seven knew Janeway and Tuvok would not approve and they would be obligated to stop her. So, Seven took herself out of the equation.

But, in the grand scheme of things, the thing she missed most and took for granted was the regular maintenance checks with the Doctor.

Seven doesn't let it show but she's had residual pain in her shoulder and joints and low-grade headache. Sometimes Regeneration helps but it doesn't solve all the things that ail. Seven tries to do regular maintenance on her cybernetic parts but the internal ones she can't reach are harder to do.

This was resolved when she was finally allowed access to Starfleet resources -- and among them, the EMH. I'm sure the Doctor tried to, over the years, contact Seven but via the virtue of Seven's revenge crusade and guilt, I don't think Seven allowed herself to be contacted.

So for over 20 years, before she was in regular contact with Starfleet she's felt residual, chronic pain.

And even with the Doctor's help some things are hard to reverse, so Seven still has some phantom pain, especially when she hasn't regenerated in days.

Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own.

Her eyes can glow. Just like a predatory animal could, in the dark. Seven just chooses not to, even her natural eye, which also had enhancements -- since we see from Voyager that Seven's view of the world is very much like a heads-up display with a green filter.

It's also why she has trouble identifying when something is glowing green because Seven's default view of the world is filtered in Borg green.

Seven calibrated her eyes when, the one time Neelix entered her Cargo Bay, in the early days, she opened her eyes and observed him puttering about but didn't say anything.

Until Neelix turned around and screamed so loud it brought on the security team.

But she could. If she wanted to, make her eyes glow, she could see much better in the dark too.

Seven learned a long time ago that people need her to act as flawed and as Human.

Many in the Alpha Quadrant forget that ex-Borg can be terrifying, and Seven helps them try to forget the Borg can be terrifying.

But sometimes... it can be useful.

s5pAU (a folder with many “Chapter XX” inside) for the WIP ask meme?

Welp, I forgot I hadn't answered these! Apologies! (These are from this WIP ask meme.)

s5pAU is my short way of referring to “S5 Pregnancy AU,” and it's… what it says on the tin! Sort of. Basically, the entire ridiculous concept is “what if CJ got pregnant at the end of S4?” (Around Zoey's kidnapping, in this case.) It's 11 chapters so far, with only a bit of 12 written… And it was my main WIP for the better part of 2023, even if I took months here and there.

(I had written a lot of unneccesary backstory that I've tried my best to summarize into the important parts. It's still long, sorry. It's just been the WIP, for most of 2023. It's sitting at over 76k words already!)

I have a note on my phone with a list of most ideas I kept having while rewatching the show last year. This one was part of it, and it jumped at me for how ridiculous it is. I recall having a mental image of a scene that was too OOC, but could work, around late February? Early March? It's definitely not a realistic idea, but there was something about some of her moments in S5 that I felt would be interesting (and not that different) to explore under new circumstances.

Before I started writing it properly in June, I did a few outlines (two detailed ones, in March and April), with the idea of having 1-2 chapters per semester, maybe some interludes here and there. I also started a playlist with ✨ vibes ✨, but though I thought a lot about it… I wasn't really writing it. Until I just needed to get so much stuff out of my head.

If I had to say, I think it is following the outline, but also not… Because I am being far more detailed than I intended to be, the show's actual timeline is a mess (not that the one I tried to create is better, but at least I know what month it is), and some story beats happened differently, hopefully still organically.

Anyway. This is boring. It still doesn't have a proper title, not that I'd change the folder's name (not really); it's not done (haven't written anything new since November, and it goes for everything); I could see this becoming some sort of series/universe by the nature of it.

I have to go back to my post.” Whatever retort she had thought up for the first part died on her lips when she heard the second part. Her heart sank, and she chided herself. The second she had believed this day to be ordinary had been her first mistake: once you perceived anything as ordinary, you should know the universe would make it so it was anything but.

💚: If they’re sick or injured, who is the person they want watching over them? What about their comfort do they find so nice?

Might be a stock answer, but I'd say Rebecca or Ted as they'd fuss over her but also really brighten her spirits. Rebecca would regale her with all the gossip speculation that she missed while she was stuck at home, Ted would tell her silly dad jokes and make her his grandmother's homemade chicken noodle soup, and altogether she'd be very cozy and have her mind taken off feeling icky.

❤️‍🩹: What normal or innocuous thing has their past ruined for them? Are they attempting to remedy this?

The concept of saying no. She's pretty bad at it, and when she does manage to say no, she rarely feels as though it was the right thing to do. Growing up I think her parents overrode any objections she tried to bring up — her dad didn't have time for backtalk and her mom was the sort of pageant mom that pushed Keeley into various activities/events/outfits whether Keeley wanted to or not — so eventually she learned that most of the time it wasn't worth it to keep fighting them.

As she got older it wasn't always a major problem; it made her likable, for one thing, and most of the time she wouldn't have said no anyway. But it also means that sometimes people take advantage of her. In the worst case scenarios you get Mr. Daniels, for instance, or the 23-year-old footballer who dated her when she was 18. She didn't want to feel rejected or that she was making anyone unhappy, so combined with her warped view of self-worth and those people's predation, she went along with things that were very, very awful for her.

(I'm not at all blaming her, the fault lies entirely with the people who victimized her, I'm just opining on her mindset.)

She's generally gotten better at asserting herself to where she doesn't have to say no because she's made her preferences clear from the jump, but you still get things like 2x07, for example, where she so much wants to keep the peace and not make Roy feel bad that she doesn't address the problem until it blows up. Similarly, the advice she gives to Jamie in 2x06, to just agree with everything Roy says to head off his anger, that is not healthy. Or in season 3, it takes Rebecca comparing Jack to Rupert for Keeley to tell Jack to cool it with the gifts, and she delays clarifying her and Roy's relationship (or non-relationship, as the case was) for weeks between 3x10 and 3x11 because she knows what he wants — her — and telling him no would hurt him.

I'm not sure Keeley's really aware of this part of her, or at least doesn't think it's a problem, so in terms of working to fix it unfortunately I think it'd take someone laying it out for her — a desperately needed therapist, say — or through some turn of events the realization smacking her square in the face.

the funny thing is, i didn't discover the concept of associating songs with characters until recent years! because back in the day, i wasn't doing it, and i didn't know why at first since everyone was doing it. but i realized it just happens when you get deeply invested in characters lol

so, i used to be (and still, tbh) obsessed with a song called 'once' by brad kane. it's about change, loss, and the yearning for redemption for someone the narrator once knew as cheerful and full of life.

i found out about it after seeing a supernatural edit about dean winchester in that arc where he became a demon and his emotions became dark. he forgot all his memories, and his brother was trying to get him back, never giving up on him even though it was painful witnessing him slip further and further away. and after watching the borgias and getting to know juan's character, and seeing him go from a sweet and bizarrely charming but arrogantly cocky little guy to being depressed, lonely, and sad with a downward spiral, it left me no choice but to associate the song with him. coincidentally, i found out later that someone already made a juan edit with it, so basically, a lot of us agree it is the juan song (although the song is more like for everyone who's ever felt alone and wondered if there is actually anyone out there to help them get through life. but juan was pretty much alone, and no one from his family even cared to reach out since he was lost)

i would ask holliday grainger about what lucrezia would've said or done if she knew that the way juan childishly behaves towards her is because he's in love with her, and not because he doesn't want to see her happy (since that's what she truly believes, which is the wrong idea). i would also ask david to dive deep and provide insights about juan's complex feelings towards lucrezia and cesare. i mean, i know that he has resentment towards cesare because he's aware that cesare is the one rodrigo relies on and is better at being a leader than juan will ever be. but he also resents the fact that cesare doesn't love him or view him as an equal. according to david's last interview about the show, he mentioned that having a bond with cesare is something that juan 'always wanted'. also, juan feels very sorry for lucrezia after what he has done to her (killing paolo) but childishly not wanting to admit he has done her wrong, believing he was protecting her while being driven by jealousy over seeing her with a lover, let alone being a peasant who would bring scandals to the family. juan has so many misguided notions, misunderstood tenderness, confusion, and frustration. so, i would really like to hear david go on about it for hours and explain what he means when he said that juan wanted to be involved in lucrezia and cesare's affair.

💞 Who's your comfort character?

Ah. Well, that obviously evolves as you go, doesn't it? At the moment...it might actually be Lan Wangji? In that there's something I find really comforting about writing him. His perspective is deliberately just opaque enough to the reader to give the fanfic writer room to play around, but he's got some big clear outlines to stay within and all kinds of canonical internal drama to explore.

I'm not sure I ever really have just one of these but I thought of him first, so.

👀 Tell me about an up and coming wip please!

I am so very trapped in the mdzs gyre, okay, the wip I've been having the most momentum on recently that isn't an ongoing and isn't original is this slightly goofy but also kind of ambitious AU where I made up an excuse for the book to open with Wei Wuxian getting summoned into a body that looks like his own, as per cql, but Mo Xuanyu survives the process and is a separate guy.

Because I was like, I have rarely seen Mo Xuanyu explored at his adult age and in his original context (such that all the limited information available can be applied) and never interacting with Wei Wuxian. Because killing him is how you get Wei Wuxian.

(Ofc this is also true of the Shen Qingqius and Shen Jiu gets to strut his stuff in fanfic all the time, because his presence/absence within the narrative builds him up within canon and he's got a presence in the extras to work with, plus the setup of svsss is just friendlier to bullshit, asspulls, alternate universes, etc. Mxy is just thoroughly shafted lmao, ty for your generous body donation, please exit existence completely.)

Well, suppose you sidestep that? I put together a mental mock-up for how, and got hooked.

Mo Xuanyu is a very entertaining pov character to work with, and I'm having a lot of fun working with how differently events would unfold if Wei Wuxian came back looking like himself and was immediately saddled with a companion.

Because, you know, so much of the way the romance builds in the book is that Wei Wuxian has lost absolutely everything and is completely alone in the world, and then Lan Wangji basically thrusts himself into his life and won't let go.

Wei Wuxian could have ditched him if he'd really wanted, but since he mostly just thought it was the smart thing to do, and actually he fucking hates being alone for long, making it more inconvenient for him to run off than to stick around was all it took to maintain the proximity long enough for lwj to establish himself as the person wwx could rely on. Is my rough interpretation of where they're at, in the 'pretending to be Mo Xuanyu' period. It's kinda fucked up but not as bad as it looks at a glance.

The presence of actual Mo Xuanyu blows this setup to smithereens, as well as changing other things like Wei Wuxian's travel timing etc, so it's been a fun time figuring out how the emotional beats and relationships slide around without changing anything else about the situation, really.

Plus Mo Xuanyu knows rather more than Wei Wuxian about the current worldstate, but so much less about the personal context of every Sunshot veteran other than Jin Guangyao.

Also Mo Xuanyu is very gay so I'm tormenting him with the presence of beautiful men lmao.

I wouldn't want Alanna/Jon or Delia/Jon to be long lasting but there are enough interesting elements to both those relationships that I would be open to reading fic/meta that explores those. • My angsty pairing for them: I feel like also Jon/Thayet with all the family drama around Kalasin.

• My favorite poly ship for them: I don't have one ready to go but maybe Jon/Thayet/Buri/Raoul? Although to be fair, I feel like the Jon/Thayet, Buri/Thayet, Buri/Raoul, and Jon/Raoul pairs are all solid. It's Jon/Buri where I feel a bit shaky about things working out but I guess if they both love Thayet and Raoul, they can probably come to a level of understanding.

• My weirdest pairing for them: I've always been a little intrigued by the idea of Alanna/Delia so, I think it would really interesting to see how things go in a Jon/Delia/Alanna throuple.
