Every now and then i get the urge to babble about Marth over here, but i'm barely holding that brainrot back with a stick (and the stick is androids) so it doesn't Consume Every Waking Thought as it has shown itself to do in the past 3 years.
...that said...the androids – while adoptable and thus you can do whatever and put them in whatever universe you want – definitely have a basis in that universe as far as my approach to them goes. Which is so fun because i inadvertently end up doing micro-worldbuilding with each one's design.

I've never made any connections between Worm and the Captain America mythos before. Spill some ink?
Okay, so from a purely aesthetic perspective, the gimme is Miss Militia. She's the most obvious "Captain Patriotic" in the roster, she has the power of GUN, she's the only one who actively buys into the mythology of America specifically. She's a Kurdish woman occupying an aesthetic niche generally held by a rugged squinty white guy. She's an output of the melting pot narrative. She's sort of a rendering of what a grounded superhero who somehow became very aesthetically into America might look like. Not in the craven marketing-driven way of Homelander or Comedian, not in the jingoistic maniac way of USAgent or Peacemaker. She buys it in the broadly left-liberal (USamerican connotation of that term) safe, friendly, reclamative way. Why, what a great rehabilitation of the archetype!
She's also deeply, deeply afraid of rocking the boat. She's got a deepseated childhood trauma related to the bad things that happen when she puts herself in a leadership role. She goes along to get along. When she's proactive, it's usually to point a gun at Tattletale to stop her from upsetting the status quo. She sits through a lot of situations where Steve Rogers, as commonly modeled, would probably plant himself like a tree by the river of truth and go, "Hey, this is fucked up." She more or less capitulates to Undersider domination of the city, in a way that predisposes us to think of her as a voice of reason after all these total nuts that Skitter's been up against- but would Taylor "to relinquish control is a form of ego death" Hebert really be willing to leave someone in charge of the local Protectorate branch who she thought couldn't be corralled? She looks like a beacon, but doesn't- indeed, probably can't- ever truly behave like one. I mean, you can debate the on-the-spot morality of any given one of her judgement calls, that's actually one of the less exhausting Worm Morality Debates to have- but in aggregate, a person in American flag garb who actually meaningfully criticizes the paramilitary organization they're part of is not gonna survive long in that role!
So again, she's the gimme from an aesthetic standpoint. But what I don't really see a lot of discussion of is how Cauldron plays into the riff.
Captain America is institutional, but in a comically morally uncomplicated way. The serum was originally mana from heaven, granted to a living saint, conveniently divorced from any nitty-gritty sausage-making process and even-more conveniently divorced from the horrible consequences of giving the, uh, the U.S government a replicable super soldier process. And in fairness to Captain America, this is 100 percent something the overall mythos eventually patched to my satisfaction; the sausage-making process eventually revealed as prototypical government fuckery driven by human experimentation on black servicemen, the overall Marvel Setting littered with failed attempts by the U.S. Government to recreate that golden goose so they can have their fun new jackboots. (In Ultimate Marvel, this is how almost all contemporary superhumans were created, and this is a state of affairs with a body count in the millions or billions.)
Cauldron draws you in with the same noble rhetoric about greater goods, the same one-off proprietary irreplicable formula- but you don't get the luxury afterwards of representing nothing but the dream. You aren't partnering up with a plucky crank scientist with a heart of gold. You're selling your soul to an organization with an agenda. The narrative makes no bones about the fact that everything you do is fundamentally tainted by the fact you opted into an end product created through torture, kidnapping and human experimentation. You don't get to pull a Kamen Rider by going rogue or opting out or making good use of the fruit of the poisoned tree; you are owned, and everything you do has this Damocles sword hanging over your head- when are the people who bankrolled this going to come to collect?
So that's the question of "who would willingly dress like that" covered, and the question of who creates a serum like that. What about the question of who takes a serum like that? I'd argue that Eidolon is the examination of that. Pre-Cauldron David reads to me like pre-serum Steve Rogers viewed through a significantly bleaker lens. They're both sickly kids desperate to serve, rocketed to the pinnacle of human capability by an experimental procedure. But for Steve Rogers, the crisis was that he had a specific vision of the world and was frustrated by his inability to carry it out. Before the serum he picked fights over what was right and wrong and got his ass handed to him; afterwards he picked those same fights and just started winning instead. The serum neatly solved a problem he had, and to the extent that his mindset is influenced by his pre-serum experiences, it's generally constructive; a desire to protect the weak, help the helpless, an appreciation for people who stand up for what's right even when they're clearly gonna get pancaked for their trouble. So ultimately there's no dark side, downside, or underlying neurosis ascribed to his initial impulse to take that serum.
But with David, it's not a tragic case of the spirit being willing but the flesh being weak. He isn't a preternaturally-noble soul, out to represent the best elements of the American ideal- he kind of represents the inverse, a guy who's been failed at every level while utterly convinced that he's the problem. He's actively suicidal because he's a wheelchair-bound epileptic in an economically-depressed socially-backwards rural town in the 1980s, and he's spent his 18 years of life internalizing the idea that he's worse than useless unless he can somehow find a way provide value to something larger than himself. Doctor Mother finds him in the aftermath of a suicide attempt spurred by his rejection from the army- and he didn't even want to join the army specifically, necessarily, he just needed his situation to be literally anything else, and he took what he thought he could get. And then he finds himself in a position to become a superhero, so he does that, molds himself into that, subordinates himself to that, builds his entire sense of self and values around the value he can provide in that role. No grand design or sacred principles carried over through the metamorphosis. Just relief at finally, finally having something that looks like an answer to the question of what he's supposed to do.
And you know, you know that if Steve Rogers was facing down the barrel of being depowered, he'd smile and nod, he'd Cincinnatus that shit. It's happened before. But for David, the emotional trauma and self-worth issues that caused him to roll the dice on a Steve-Rogers treatment never really went away. When would it? He's been Providing Value as a ten-ton Hammer Against Evil for thirty years. No family, no social life. Certainly, no incentive on his handler's part to lance his Atlas complex. So he barrels towards atrocity in the name of remaining useful. Admittedly, this is where the comparison breaks down in a significant way; Captain America is much more of a symbol than he is an irreplicable powerhouse, so it's not catastrophic if he's taken off the board. Eidolon is so unbelievably powerful that his myopia and self-centeredness actually do align with a real problem everyone else is gonna have if he loses his powers. But in terms of the starting points- I think that Steve Rogers embodies the myth about why you'd want to join the army that badly. Eidolon is, I think, much more closely modelling why you'd actually want to join the army that badly.

I'm convinced that the "don't vote for Democrats!" far lefties want Christo-fascists to rise to power throughout the US government.
Why do they want that? Well, they're accelerationists. They want a real fascist enemy in power. That way they can justify organizing armed rebellion and gang wars against right-wing militias. And we'll all lose everything in that conflict. Hastily organized left-wing gangs won't win against a Christo-fascist empire. But some far left men will find a place to fit comfortably within the empire. They'll make a name for themselves as terror gang leaders. And that's very trendy and aesthetic these days because there's prostitution, money, and glory involved. And you can put your face on posters and fashion yourself as a revolutionary icon. And for many left-wing men, that's the dream. They want their faces on t-shirts.
The other option is to use our democracy to keep Christo-fascists out of office. If we do that, our government will sink back into a moderate centrist status quo. Wrangling that type of government is a very different task. It takes civic engagement and law and reading and writing policy. Most left-wing men don't see the glory in that kind of battle.

What do each of the guys like to do when it snows?
Time: A snowy day makes for a nice walk alone. Snow muffles sound, and he likes the quiet. Then he builds himself a little cave and hides in it. Less likely to be found and a warm space! In truth he really likes the aesthetic of snow. He always loved watching it fall and playing in it growing up. Perhaps he still plays in it now when no one is watching. After all, you didn't see who threw that snowball...
Twilight: When there's snow on the ground, it's his favorite time to go for a run. As a wolf. All that fur doesn't help when it's hot, but in the cold it's wonderful. He loves to bound through the snow and dig in it. The guy deserves to be a goofball every once in a while.
Wild: Cold, snowy days make for hearty stews and dishes with a kick! He loves cooking those. And he loves to make snowmen. And then find every way possible to destroy them. Time said the cannon was a little much that one time. Snow's also great for shield surfing. There's a good-sized hill not too far from the nearby town that makes for some great runs. Get the boys involved and it's a ball.
Wind: Goddesses, does he hate the cold. He never had to deal with it much growing up. He'd much rather stay by the fire covered in a nest of blankets, thank you very much. But he does think snow is pretty. And fun to throw at people.
Sky: He had only seen snow a few times since settling down on the Surface, but he really likes it. Sure, it can block your door sometimes when there's a lot, but there's lounging by the fire sipping a hot cocoa for those times. He loves to build things in the snow too.
Warrior: Snow's all right. When he was in the militia he and his fellow soldiers would have a snowball fight or two. He's not very good at shield surfing, but if he can convince Wind to join him it's a fun time sledding together down the nearby hills. If he can't convince him, staying inside sitting by the fire or telling stories is fun too.

watching tiktok a while back and a guy was mourning that he got a brotherhood of steel tattoo because he liked fallout 3 and didnt know about the horrible faction it is (because you know, fo3 has horrible world building, so much so that faction of bos is considered separate), but even so i had to question, why you would admire a technofascist militia, even when theyre quote unquote "the good guys" in the game because the depth of the writters went as far as looking at classic fallout screenshots of their armor and thinking "that looks cool :)" it all kinda got explained when he mentioned he got the tattoo abroad when he was being deployed... from the militia. then he went on way too long trying to make a rant about how "actually fallout 4 bos isnt fascist perse cuz uh-" no my dude, they are a hoarders of technology prewar because they think anyone but them are savages that dont know how it works and want to kill anyone who isnt "human" in the same ominous vague term that could change meaning to justify their means. that sounds pretty fucking fascist to me. something about an ex-soldier trying to justify why the faction they liked isnt evil cuz he likes the aesthetic of hyper techno militia in post apocalypse kinda encapsulates why fallout was not meant to go mainstream idk.

Watching the old Rambo movies and a few old Arnold movies I am remembering the 80s action aesthetic of firing machine guns from the hip. Not only that, you had to wiggle the barrel around.
Tumblr media
Some call this "spray and pray."
It's not a very sound combat technique.
I think they did it in the movies to show off those bulging biceps.
It would probably work okay for suppressing fire to keep the enemy behind cover, but it would be really difficult to hit anything you were aiming at. I guess the idea is the sheer volume of bullets would eventually hit something important. Of course, in the movies, these spray and prays hit enemies center mass every time and you had unlimited ammo to fire.
Automatic fire in general is not very accurate unless it is mounted or from a prone position. Without that stability, the barrel will just start traveling upwards until you are shooting at the moon. Most trained soldiers will fire one or two shots at a time and then reset their aim. There is this perception from movies that being shot at with a full auto firearm is the most dangerous thing you can face. But the truth is, someone with training firing one shot at a time is much more deadly.
I do remember talking to an old friend a long time ago who served in the middle east. He told me that a lot of the untrained militia he faced would actually fire their AKs like Rambo. From the hip and wiggling their barrels. Emptying their magazines all at once. The problem is that an AK with 30 rounds firing at 600 rounds per minute would empty the magazine in about 3-5 seconds. So they found themselves running out of ammo very quickly. Or their barrels would melt and the gun would be unusable. But all they had to go on was what they saw in old action movies. That was their training.

Hey Mini! I hope you're doing okay, thought I'd send you an ask ☺️
We're able to see 47's ideal safehouse in Freelancer (or at least, a lot of aesthetic choices he would probably like). What do you think Grey's ideal safehouse would look like? Where would it be?
Thank you for this interesting question 💕
We see a few small details of Grey's flat in Berlin, which looks quite industrial with the brick walls and pipes in the background. He doesn't live in Colorado, but according to his mercenaries he comes and goes, but the bedroom in the house is used by Rose, while the rest of the bedrooms belong to the men and women of his militia.
So let's put together what we can at least assume about Grey's lifestyle 😁
Grey is messy. If you look at the basement in Colorado, the whole thing is absolute chaos. Organised chaos, maybe, but messy all the way. His desk doesn't look particularly tidy either. An ashtray full of cigarettes. Crumpled paper everywhere. Waste bin missed? Never mind!
So what does that tell us about Grey? Well, he seems to place little value on order. He certainly has a system in his chaos, but he places less emphasis on order. Clothes may not need to be hung away immediately, dirty dishes pile up in the sink, you name it.
Quite the opposite of 47, who is very neat and accurate, at least in my headcanon 😌
But in fact, there is the option in Freelancer to make some parts of the house look like what I would see for Grey, rather than 47. For example, the wardrobe:
Tumblr media
Or that little shed:
Tumblr media
Open chip bags, beer bottles and used plates while mixing poison and explosives looks more like Grey to me 😅
Now when it comes to his safehouse in general and its location, I think Grey, like 47, has several locations.
The flat in Berlin gives the impression of being quite central, as we also keep seeing the headlights of cars driving past the windows. I think Grey prefers a flat in the middle of the city so maybe that is his "headquarters".
Maybe he feels more comfortable in the city, surrounded by lots of people. Being alone in the city is another thing than being alone in the forest somewhere. I think after all that Grey has been through, maybe he can't stand solitude and quiet so well. Maybe he needs that, that opportunity to step out the door and be in the middle of what we call "normality". To go to Cafés, to sit on a park bench and see the people around him and realise that he is not confined and isolated anywhere.
I think that's why he prefers a flat in the city. And a city like Berlin is very good for staying anonymous. I live in a big German city myself and here it's easy to be on your own and still not feel really lonely.
I can imagine that Grey likes that feeling. Being alone, but not feeling lonely. Being anonymous and yet somehow part of a whole.

What is your opinion on the Arkham Knight version of Jason
i have to say that I’ve never watched the full walkthrough nor played the game, but I did watch fragments and read the comics (although that was some years ago), so this is what my opinion is based on. &also there are things that i don’t enjoy about it, like the militia and aesthetics that comes with it, but fash undertones are present in so many batman titles, i’m not going to get into it right now.
i would like to say that i’m quite ambivalent, but that’s a lie because i usually have a soft spot for all jason iterations, even if they are very far off from the original characterisation and even perpetuate stereotypes that i can’t stand in canon. and that is, i think, for the most part, the case with arkham jay, an elseworld characterisation that might have even inspired the mainstream red hood comics a bit too much… especially that the arkham universe seems to be much darker and hopeless.
needless to say, I don’t like it in the main continuity, but for that title i didn’t mind it. if anywhere, pieces of media like that are the place to explore these themes.
two things i find interesting:
pre-robin/robin jay: something that is central to my reading of canon jason is his kindness and dedication to the world. this is attitude that ak jason is many ways definitely lacks. he is sensitive of course & motivated by desire to protect the innocent, but he is already cynical before he even gets to become robin.  it makes sense if you consider he’s older than jay when we first meet him in the main continuity, and that ak jay’s circumstances are much worse from the beginning (which is something i don’t appreciate that much tbh. you know i love willis & i don’t like this portrayal of gotham nor the crime alley specifically; not even sure if they call it in game/ak comics the same either). ak jay doesn’t give up (which i love), but he is already much more vidincative and has more of this somber determination. in batman and red hood comics flashbacks bruce sometimes mentions that jason “always” treated crime-fighting like a “game” – and this rings more true for ak jay than it ever did for 80s robin jason. i’d say ak!jay does treat life as a game because he knows that to an extent, it is one – and he is already on a disadvantaged position, which is why he’s willing to play dirty in the field. it’s a gritty take and much less mature and empathetic than what we get in og jason storylines. there’s def something captivating in this unromantic approach – hence its popularity even with rh retcons & fanon, but i'm more willing to accept it here than on earth prime. the way we can choose to believe that maybe robin could affect it and let him work him through his grievances with the world, only for it this chance to get completely crushed.
ak!jason: this is the universe in which jason gets to actually blame bruce for abandoning him (as a result of psychological torture, of course, but he still does), and in which he seeks revenge on him specifically. it’s interesting to see it unfold since in in comics it makes only for a short episode in the lost days for jay. (however, ngl, i also find it interesting that so many fans who are obsessed with jason being autonomous and responsible for all of his actions seem to adore this take.)
so, tldr, i guess while i do like this version of jason, he’s also basically a stereotype of og jason and everything i don’t want comics jason to be, which is a bit ironic. but there is some good storytelling in there and nice panels in ak: genesis.
and ngl i do like the monicker & his design. perhaps more than the red hood one even.
