This isn't a super formal contest or anything, so the deadline is February 4th! But, for anyone that does enter before the deadline, they will have their entry/persona idea drawn out by me!^^

ive never watched h2o just add water but im australian so close enough and i desperately want to know more about death note h2o au. how does light becoming a mermaid make him able to kill people does he just like start grabbing people and drowning them. does L keep coming up with convoluted ways to reveal that light is a mermaid (i would like to know if someone attempts to push him into a pool at some point because i think thats how h2o mermaids work like you. just add water™ and they turn into a mermaid right)

they are Australian and live on the gold coast and light is a uni student who becomes a mermaid. because he is a normal person he realises this is his opportunity to kill people. he also has a pretty, shiny tail.

L is a detective whose attention is drawn to this weird string of drownings in Queensland, Australia. he comes down to investigate.

to answer your actual question:

light drowns people by waiting for them to go surfing or swimming or whatever and then flipping their boards etc and dragging them at top speed into a rip. he holds them down or tangles them up so they can't stick their arms up for lifeguards

L thinks it's sus that all these experienced beachgoers are making mistakes like this and that nobody's managed to call a lifeguard in time. a couple of lifeguards have reported seeing a bit of a commotion where victims are drowning, but get out there too late, and it seems like all of them are physically not able to hold their arms up

here are the rest of my notes in the planning doc and some excerpts:

L doesn't enrol in UQ (is light more of a QUT bitch) but does just like, show up? maybe he gives a talk? i think light is studying law because i want to be self fucking indulgent. so maybe L (via screen) gives a lecture for criminal justice students and starts asking people what they think about the nobbo murders. someone's like so you think it's definitely murder and not just people drowning? L is like you're a beach city. drownings aren't uncommon, but this many drownings from people who are all familiar with the ocean terrain and beach safety makes it very unlikely.

(translator's note: UQ is university of queensland, QUT is queensland university of technology)

He picks light out from the audience because he's already profiled him and they have a discussion

later on L shows up physically at the cafe where light works and asks if he'd like to go swimming. while light is working on how to get out of that one, L goes, oh no, I've forgotten my beach wear. let's go play tennis instead.

lights like internal monologue there's a surf shop next door. light yagami would probably just offer to lend L a rashie or say they can go next door to pick one up. if I take this out, will he thinks I'm suspicious? does he think I'm nobbo? but I can't go swimming or he'll realise the truth.

(translator's note: 'rashie' is aussie slang for 'rash guard' or 'rash shirt' and it's swimwear that is a shirt)

while light is freaking out, L is like, actually there's a mini golf place near mermaid beach I really want to try, so let's go swimming another time. light's like well okay

so they go have a gay game of mini golf. l asks light how mermaid beach got its name and if he thinks mermaids are real. they discuss nobbo.

why did i name him nobbo

misa is light's coworker btw. at some point she also becomes a mermaid and light has to stop her rom exposing them both because she is not very careful

light entered the pool alone so got all three powers - hydrokinesis, cryohydrokinesis and thermocryokinesis

My Entry for the Karmor Mini Contest!

Hello everyone! Mono here! This is my Karmor, Vin! Here’s some details and my little rant below the cut—oh and I’ll be posting his backstory sometime later in the week so watch out for that!

Since I was asked for a little bit of lore, you, my dear friends, are getting a RANT TIME ™

Okay so to start, here’s a little intro:

Name: Vince “Vin” Ennio Amato 

Age: 27-28(somewhere I haven’t decided he just looks much older, might be the trauma)

Pronouns: He/Him

Sexuality: Gay🏳️‍🌈💅

Nationality: British 🇬🇧 and Italian 🇮🇹

Height: 5,10-5,11

Hair: It’s mostly brown but has one main streak of white and several duller or grey ish streaks due to his own powers + stress + crow 

Eyes: Sea green, like his mother and sister. 

Music Taste: He likes shit from Conan Grey, Madelline, Alec Benjamin (sad boy at 3 am eat your heart out fr + punk rock (think Hobie brown)

He’s a pretty quiet guy (obvi), but he’s mostly observant. He does however, have a temper that has a short fuse. He doesn’t like getting angsty, hates it, actually, but he somehow always seems to be—

He also has minor tics/Tourette’s because I have tics and mine are pretty much a lot so I’m projecting totally not—*gets dragged away*

He has eyebags that last an infinite amount of time because he never fucking sleeps you cannot catch him lacking—

He’s has scars on his hands from some lore that I’m choosing not to reveal yet because I’m so nice 😊 

Power explanation time LESSGO:

So he has litchenberg scars, otherwise known as lightning scars. But he wasn’t struck by lightning, or maybe he was, I haven’t decided yet and bro’s memory is in the shits anyway—

But when he’s normal, not using his powers, they’re an odd gold-brown color on his skin, lightening more and more yhe less and less he uses his powers.

When he uses his powers they glow a cyan, kind-of like the hextech from arcane. His powers are unstable as holy hells, LIKE THE ARCANE (can you tell I recently got into Arcane?) and hurt him, in a sense? Let’s just say after he uses his powers, the scars will ache like hell for D A Y S. And there’s no way to fix it either, pain meds don’t work on him either :)

Essentially his powers are electricity based, AS ELECTRICITY POWERS ARE OP AS HELL AND I WILL STAND BY THAT.

So he basically surges electrical currents through his body, but they’re magic so. Anyways, his eyes, which are usually sea green, will glow a cyan color. 

Usually when he uses his powers, you’ll hear the sound of thunder and then the sound of a lightning strike. Then everything goes white and he hears ringing. Sometimes he’ll pass out, but most times he’ll be awake. His powers drain his energy severely though, so despite how tired and sleep-deprived he already is, it gets worse. (RIP Vin’s sleep schedule that he’s literally never had lmao).

After he uses his powers, he’ll be like freezing cold for a while (because that’s an aftereffect of being struck by lightning) and sore as all hell. He also will have more trouble sleeping as using his powers makes his nightmares worse + crow likes to torture him.

Final extra detail, the jacket he wears? Yeah, that one? That was his father’s. :)

i went with the desert oasis prompt and came up with a silly bearded dragon lookin thing that keeps water on its back by mixing it with some kinda mucus . idk . fish probably end up in there every now and then

Contests favoring ptp

The more I think about it, the more I am saddened by the contests favoring pay-to-play players.

The full-pack uncreative entries winning a lot was already an issue that frustrated a lot of us (and which seems to be minimized thanks to the renew themes, at least as long as we ignore the fairy/butterfly omnipresence), but I'm thinking about the new player' experience once the game will have more episodes released too.

I also think this could be fixed, for example, with different categories of contests. Like maybe three or four/five, with the first one for the players who don't have much items in their wardrobes, the second for those who have more, etc. And with themes more manageable for the categories (like the first one would not have themes needing packs or VIP items to be interesting, more like the "Day at the Office" or "First Date" themes we already have).

The items used being more moderated could also be a solution I have seen mentioned.

But of course, I'm just a player with absolutely no idea of how manageable this would technically be, especially when the contests are already out and played so much. And I'm also aware that this is a marketing strategy anw. But still, sad.
