Stan and Ford, when they were young, reveled in being identical. It was an genetically gifted, built-in prank, an innate friend, a second half of the same heart and brain. They dressed the same, acted the same, even made sure they sounded the same. The days when even their father couldn't tell them apart were counted as a success--- the ultimate joke, and they were pulling it off every week. (their mother could always tell them apart. It was uncanny; her only real psychic ability.)

Then, around seven or eight, Stan broke his glasses. Mom and dad couldn't afford a new pair, so they stopped having the same face. It got harder for him to read without them, and he stopped getting as good of grades, and got moved from the advance reading group to the average reading group in class. Ford got a nice jacket for his birthday, and suddenly they stopped dressing alike. That was OK, Stan reasoned: they still sounded the same, and were the same height, and still got up to all sorts of high-jinks together.

In middle school, they got put in a few different classes, so they couldn't fool their teachers; they had the same lunch block, though, so the lunch lady never knew what hit her! And they had the Stan o' War to work on, so they always had about the same level of sunburn.

Then Ford started to join clubs without Stan. They got different jobs in high school, and Stan got slapped with an acne curse and a propensity to forget to do his laundry that led to them looking distinctly different. Ford met friends that didn't like Stan, and Stan met friends who called Ford a nerd and lame, and Stan didn't always have it in him to call them out.

It was alright, though--- they were still twins. Stan looked at Ford and didn't see his exact mirror image, but he still saw himself--- in the brows, the nose, the mischievous gleam in his eyes, their matching sea glass bracelets Stan made them when they were 11. Ford was still unmistakably his brother, Stan reassured himself; they would always be fun-house mirrors of each other, not perfectly symmetrical but with the same roots. He told himself that when they got called to the principal's office, he told himself that when Ford stopped working on the boat so he could work on his perpetual motion machine, he told himself that when Ford said he was going away to West Coast Tech, no if, and, or but about it. They were twins.

But when Stan called out to Ford from the sidewalk, duffel laying half-abandoned by his car, he saw no mirror, no brother, and certainly no twin. The man who stood in the window--- the man who turned away from Stan instead of helping him--- no, Stan didn't recognize that man at all.

Why did Stan mention that he has a mullet so aggressively while arguing with Ford back then? Were mullets really that bad?

Rewriting this cause tumblr deleted it, but anyways.

I feel like it had less to do with the fact that he had a mullet, but rather the fact that he was so broke he couldn’t afford a haircut. If you watch the scenes leading up to the fight, his hair keeps growing longer and it just doesn’t seem all that well taken care of.

Mullets were in style in the 80’s, not to mention he looks GREAT in one, but being realistic I feel like Stan couldn’t enjoy having a mullet because it was now just another thing he had no control over in his life because of his circumstances. It’s the fact that to him have a haircut he liked became a luxury he couldn’t afford meanwhile Ford not only had a house BUT A LAB?!

And while of course Stan isn’t one to take what he considers “handouts” or “pity” or any of that, it hurts him that his brother saw the condition he was in (and he probably knew because of how he got his motel address) and yet he was still so willing to push him away (not to mention he probably felt the need to protect ford and ford wouldn’t even let him do that! Like ford gave no true explanation whatsoever and was already expecting Stan to listen to him, and with the condition he was in I’m sure Stan probably felt more paranoid himself because who is hurting his brother and why wasn’t he there to stop it he should’ve been there to stop it)

So yeah… that’s why I think he was aggressive about having a mullet.

Haven’t thought this one through I’m just spitballing here but. AU that’s sorta White Collar by way of RIPD?

Charles got recruited (more or less against his will) to Afterlife Enforcement on the spot when he tried to throw a punch at Death in the attic. He works under Niko/The Principal, and trades snipes with the Night Nurse when they happen to get stuck in the same elevator.

He’s been married to Crystal for several years, having met her after she died in a murder-by-ghost case that he ended up assigned to.

And then there’s Edwin.

Edwin’s been on the run from Afterlife Enforcement for decades. Escaped Hell, and Hell escapees are pretty much the top of the list of Charles’s priorities, officially (and there aren’t very many of them), so Charles has more or less dedicated his afterlife to catching Edwin for the aforementioned decades, as far as the higher-ups know.

But the thing is, he realized pretty quickly that Edwin wasn’t like the other runners. Didn’t seem evil. Didn’t seem violent, even. Seemed… more scared, than anything. And Charles realized a couple years in that Edwin was also kind.

He had the chance to catch Edwin and was about to rush in but Edwin was in the process of trying to protect a child from their father at the time and Charles just… stopped. Couldn’t help, because of the laws of AE; no meddling with mortal affairs. But… he didn’t interfere. He just stood there, rune-bound cuffs dangling from his hands.

And he knows Edwin saw him (and chose to keep helping, to save the kid, instead of running and saving himself) because Edwin started sending him cards, after. And little gifts. Sassy things with barbed little insults in them but Charles saves them.

And Charles doesn’t try nearly as hard as he could, to catch Edwin, in the decades after. So many times they meet and they talk while Edwin hovers a hand over his portal-activation runes, and Charles sometimes even predicts where Edwin’s going to be and leaves cards and gifts for him (it only seems fair, when Charles has multiple drawers-full at this point; Crystal’s suggested getting him a chest just for the stuff he’s gotten from Edwin).

Edwin gets into more active spectral crime over time instead of just running - it’s kind of hard not to, when you’re on the top of AE’s list, and you need to make connections and trade favors to keep ahead of the hounds - but it’s still never violent, never evil, really.

It’s forged soul-vessels sold to sorcerers who shouldn’t have had the real thing in their hands anyway, artifacts snatched without a trace from supernatural bank vaults that were supposed to be ghost-proof, ancient Atlantean scrolls sold for millions. (Atlantis does not, and Charles cannot emphasize this enough, exist, and never has. That one Charles puts in the category of “objectively funny crime that you kinda deserved for being that stupid”.)

But, one day… Edwin’s lover, that Charles spent years knowing only as the Crow, betrays him, and Edwin makes himself so easy to catch that Charles can’t find an excuse not to anymore. (He does try.)

Charles kneels beside Edwin on concrete that doesn’t scrape up either of their knees, and tells Edwin he’s sorry about Monty, and puts on the cuffs, and makes sure they’re not tight enough to hurt.

And tries not to think about Edwin, in Hell, running, about Edwin’s elegant voice and delicate hands turned to screaming and scrabbling.

And then, four years later, Niko gives him the two-finger point, and when he goes into her office she tells him that Edwin’s asked to talk to him.

It’s not hard to sell Edwin’s suggested deal to Niko. Edwin genuinely has the potential to be the best informant AE’s ever had, best asset, even, and Niko likes him almost as much as Charles does, anyway.

And it’s kind of amazing how quickly they fall into a rhythm, together, like they were meant to be at each other’s sides all along - although Charles does quickly find he seems to spend most of his time trying to get Edwin out of trouble.

(Edwin’s very-criminal friend, the Cat King, doesn’t help, on that front, although Charles does have to admit he comes in handy sometimes.)

And for some reason Crystal keeps on inviting Edwin over to their house…

shout out object shows with canon queer ships. I'm talking on screen kiss or even just verbal confirmation. all things considered it's a bit strange you don't really see them that much when you think about how gay everyone here is. I love you ii but c2bc did what you didn't and I think that's actually really nice.

i desperately wish gw2 had more food-centric lore. i think about asura food more than is probably particularly reasonable. they're sort of implied to like molecular gastronomy in the lvl500 chef quests which is fitting and makes sense, but surely not every asura is eating bespoke Pea Spheres day in and day out right? i think my favorite angle on them is a sort of 50s-80s american-esque food style where there's a huge emphasis on things being Convenient and Scientific, so you'd get a lot of absolute slop tv dinners and canned items that have labels boasting how they were nutritionally fortified and contained your day's complete vitamin intakes and so on. a lot of jellied things. i do also fully believe they would have + eat soylent.
