I hate the way everyone acts so clueless to the treatment of black women. Abusing black women is like an initiation ritual in the black community. We have an entire industry of know abusers, criminals, rapist and pedophiles. Domestic violence rates against black women are increasing everyday. Y’all were literally just watching Blueface abuse his partner like it was a performance. how to develop a healthy sense of self as a black woman

living in a eurocentric/anti-black and colorist society where people constantly remind us that we aren’t the beauty standard (even our own family), and we face misogynior so these are things that helped me gain a healthy sense of self

- don’t be around people that have negative things to say about black women.

- love your own image. find instagram and pinterest girls that look like you and have your hair type

- take a break from dating and don’t hang around colorist people once it’s proven that’s how they are

- instead of wearing straight hair try faux locs, braids, twist, or if you get extensions do afro textured ones.

- eating healthy and working out.

- finding your self care routine (hair,nails, eyebrows, facials etc).

-don’t worry about people understanding your plight because all people do is gaslight us about our experiences.

-if you can get therapy (specifically a black woman therapist)

another issue is the treatment of Jackie and her arc, leaving her husbands (what is it with this show and spousal abandonment?) and the business she built? Remember her wooden hand (drawing to mind the monstrous actions of King Leopold in the country now known as the Democratic Republic of the Congo) and her most valuable possession was a trunk full of indigo. Cotton, rice, sugar, and indigo were the things that enslaved Africans were picking in the fields and dying over. Jackie has lost so much and (strongly implied to have) suffered so deeply. Her characterization already made me uncomfortable with her evoking all sorts of ugly stereotypes that one might expect to encounter in the 18th century rather than the 21st (she is quick to anger and sexually insatiable) and in the end she doesn’t gets the same treatment/nuanced characterization the black men get on the show, worse still she is seen as being more mellow after finding a husband who is Swedish (ie the whitest of all whites) and like did they mean to enforce a colonialist narrative of a white man “civilizing” a black woman, redeeming her through sex.
