"PLEXIGLASS ROSES ARE SUSPENDED IN THE TRANSPARENT RESIN BLOCKS USED TO CREATE THE SEAT AND ARMS..."
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on assorted shots of the "Miss Blanche Armchair" -- a clear acrylic chair which has roses suspended in it, Japanese designer Shiro Kuramata (1934-1991) created the Miss Blanche in 1988, three years before his death.
EXTRA INFO: At the November 4th, 2015 auction for Design at Sotheby’s, the "Miss Blanche" (1988) armchair, was sold for £269,000 (approx $409,000 US dollars).
CHAIR OVERVEIW: "The armchair is named Miss Blanche after the character Blanche DuBois in the 1947 play "A Streetcar Named Desire," written by American playwright Tennessee Williams.
Plexiglass roses are suspended in the transparent resin blocks used to create the seat and arms of the chair. The flowers are allegedly a homage to a corsage worn by actress Vivian Leigh while portraying DuBois in a 1951 film adaption of the play.
The roses are poured into the liquid acrylic mixture by hand, before the material slowly dries and hardens. A curved sheet of glass-like acrylic stuck vertically into the seat forms the back, causing the chair to weigh around 70 kilograms.
Produced by the designer's studio Kuramata Design Office, the Miss Blanche Chair balances on four pink aluminium tubes.
MoMA San Francisco is among the museums that have the chair in their permanent collections, and an edition of the design was auctioned at Christie's in London for £46,000 in October 1997.
Kuramata was a member of the Memphis group in the early 1980s and was responsible for furnishing boutiques for Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake in New York, Paris and Tokyo later in the decade."

Shiro Kuramata (Japanese, Tokyo, Japan 1934-1991) Miss Blanche chair 1988 Kuramata, one of Japan's most distinguished designers, gained prominence in the 1970s and 1980s for his furniture designs and commercial interiors. Drawing on the expressive capacities of modern industrial materials such as acrylic, aluminum, and steel mesh, he tapped their psychological effects, creating objects that straddle the line between function and suggestion. "Miss Blanche" derives its design from the corsage that Blanche Dubois wore in Tennessee Williams's"A Streetcar Named Desire". The seat, arms, and back are made of clear acrylic resin in which red silk roses seem to float, an ironic memory of chintz upholstery. The gently curving arms and back are joined and proportioned to stand out as individual elements rather than as parts of a whole. The purple anodized aluminum legs are inserted into slots carved out of the underside of the seat.

In your swap au, have you got any ideas for miss sculpthams character?
Yes! Also I should credit @kanrix for that initial drawing he did of swap Bloberta that inspired me to keep going off it and flesh out the au lol
Ms Sculptham is the principal at Diorama Elementary (which I guess includes middle school/junior high levels lol). Also Ms Secondopinionson is Orel's teacher, and Fakey is filling the void in the track coach category (but I didn't want to draw him lol) One big change besides the profession for Agnes is that Mary (I think that's her name) Plotwist from the scrapped s3 episode is her secretary and girlfriend (I think she had long brown hair in the script? So I improvised)!

You do realize this is like asking me to choose my favourite hand, right? Or my favourite leg? It's like choosing my favourite eye, my favourite strand of hair, my favourite organ, my favourite --
Blanche. It's-it's Blanche.
#it's painful because i really do love them all so much ;-; and i *especially* love their interactions!!! i adore them when they're together!#but if i *had* to choose one then it's blanche.#and this is not (just) because of my big big crush on rue mcclanahan i swear lmao#(especially since i also adore both bea arthur and betty white)#i think she's just the one that surprised me the most!#i *immediately* loved dorothy as soon as she appeared on scene in the pilot. *immediately*. and i only loved her more as i watched#i thought sophia was *hilarious* from the moment she walked in as well#(and she had some *great* interactions with dorothy that endeared her to me even more very early on)#and it took me a bit more to fall in love with rose but i found her very funny and charming from the start too (possibly bc of betty white)#but blanche? i *liked* blanche at the start. but i didn't *love* her#i found her funny! i found her pretty! and i loved her interactions with the girls as a whole#but it took me a while to really grasp her character bc she's so different from me#but man. once i started to figure her out... hit me like a train#idk how to explain at some point i was watching and it just hit me that 'oh wow. i really *really* love her.' you know?#now i go back to the pilot and the first episodes and i *see* all those subtleties i missed the first time around and i *adore* her#but she did catch me by surprise and i think that's why she's my favourite!#i could write a whole essay on all the things i love about her lmao but there's already enough tags on this post#(if you'd like to tell me which girl is *your* favourite i'd love to know!!!)#the golden girls#ask

I know I’ve been like almost spam posting art but I just have SO many thoughts to share I can’t help doodling <\3 here are some thoughts that have been floating around in my brain :):)
ROSE rose rose rose & her wardrobe ! I see a LOT of late 40s / early 50s (maybe a dash of 60s? But like, a dash) in the way she dresses, as someone who studies late 40s & early 50s fashion history + also dresses in it – & it’s always made me think about her sticking to an older style because that point in time would have been her & Charlies’ “younger years”. I’ve not a clue if it was intentional but oh my goodness it just makes my heart shatter. Aside from the angst she’s incredible style inspo I adore her. (On the Charlie angst, though, her girls being the first people shes loved for not having any of his traits AGH & bonus points if she hadn’t even realized she’d never jumped to comparing them until they were already settled !!! oh boy I could write an essay. Before the canon ending happens of course.)
I’ve drawn this one, but Dorothy Can Not sit in a chair. Or I guess it’s not that she can’t she just refuses to sit normally because she swears it’s more comfortable. She’ll sit with her legs up, back literally folded in half over an arm, laying down with her legs swinging over the back– Blanche definitely just 😨 when she walked in on it for the first time because how is she so flexible?! Dorothy claims it feels better on her joints than sitting normally. Blanche then attempts to copy her, for jealousy-rooted reasons, and ends up pulling something. And rose doesn’t mind because Dorothy tends to take up less room on the couch with her legs out of the way. Dorothy can never just lay down on the couch, she either gets scolded for being too tall, or her legs straight up sat on if she doesn’t move. When Blanche pulls the too tall excuse Dorothy shoots her a glare that’s just for her, because Blanche made the mistake of telling her once in the past that her height is one of the first things that attracted her to Dorothy, & now she’ll never let her live it down.
Dorothy’s canon chronic fatigue syndrome I think about a LOT. When the others hear her tossing & turning (& especially if Dorothy happens to be in one of their beds, Blanche & Rose have different ways of helping her to sleep) it becomes a race of “who’s gonna get down the hallway first & spend the night with Dorothy”. & it really is spending night with her, because nine times out of ten she doesn’t get to sleep and finds herself struggling to harbour that frustration. Normally it’s Blanche that ends up sneaking into her room, since she sometimes finds herself tossing & turning too (her episodes of tossing & turning seem to so coincidentally coincide with Dorothy’s flare ups, Dorothy says. & Blanche gives her the same jokingly offended glare every time, because she knows she’s been caught). When rose is around, although Dorothy nearly scared her off on the first day they met for suggesting it, she’s found that she really does enjoy the soft sound of her voice singing or humming her to sleep. Or at the very least to an in between place where she can feel sleepy enough to let the night fade away, instead of sitting up & letting her depression weigh her down. She thinks Rose could quite possibly be depressions cure in human form.
okay that’s all for now, I’ll ramble more another time but I’ve gotta get back to doodling before I simply explode
