Yes this is from @firealder2005​ and I’s Burning Thistles AU once more (I’m also obsessed with it). well, technically this event doesn’t exactly happen as seen in the video (it’s more exaggerated here, also the collar is more symbolic than a real object Frostfur got her paws on)

Contemporary isn't quite my cup of tea plus they just sound sooo painful/heartbreaking for me. Not that this one was any better, tbh, but something about the dystopian world plus having reader buddies for support (thanks, all!) were all it took to convince me. And... I. am. very. very. glad I did! First of all, I'm just so impressed by the her creative descriptive imageries. There were so much in variety and extraordinarily vivid. I guess if you're not keen on too much descriptions in your novels, you won't actually like this book. However, for me, her prose was absolutely beautiful. While there were a lot of imageries employed, they all have a purpose and are connected in one ways or another if you try to trace them through the novel. Unfortunately, it's so very sad to acknowledge that the inspiration of this novel is definitely real life incidents; both historically and current(!). Therefore, so many things feel so very familiar and also quite strikingly real. Please do pay attention to the trigger warnings because I expected myself to flinch and I did. Many would not speak out because "the nail that sticks up gets hammered down" so thank you to Celeste Ng for writing and providing voice for those who couldn't for "maybe sometimes, the nail that stuck up pierced the foot that stomped down." Rainflower should have been given the dishonor title "Missingheart"

In canon I have no idea why Hailstar agreed to the cruel ceremony and tried to pad the end of it like, "but its ok this doesnt mean anything im sorry" and also that Shellheart, dad and deputy, has less power in this situation than his mate

The retcon was also, honestly, incredibly cruel and short-sighted on the author's part, and imo an example of terrible worldbuilding. Really? You're committing to the Battle Cat Culture hating scars and injuries? The leader's paws are tied against child abuse when he has ultimate power in every other situation? Jesus christ.

And don't get me started on how Evil Mom Good Dad is used for cheap conflict. Raggedstar enables Broken at every step of the way but Actually Yellowfang and Lizardstripe are most at fault for this, for giving birth and resenting motherhood.

And note how ShC Mudclaw never gets mentioned, ever. There's two men with equal, or MORE, power in the Broken situation who never get the scrutiny that Yellow and Lizard do

And even in the fandom, Thistleclaw smiled at his son once and cried that Bluefur was turning him against him a billion times for being in his life, and I had to Doomguy my way through 10000 Thistlestans saying THAT made him a good boy and Bluefur a horrible bitch.

And Nightcloud. I'm not getting into how much her situation bothers me

Anyway it's my personal mission to inject nuance into every Bad Mom in this godforsaken series, starting with retcon-removing the idea of her even suggesting a dishonor child for a kitten.
