I said I wasn't going to do another WIP Whenever until the Presidential PWP was published, but it's like. 99% of the way there. I need like three sentences max before it's Done done, so whatever, here we are. 🤷

I've had a hankering to get back to the corpo AU, and I started a lil prequel with Val and her old friend Akira. I can't share anything yet because it only exists in meatspace, so I'll settle for something I probably haven't shared from the thousands upon thousands of words written for the longfic.

Putting it after the break bc this is getting long...

For those who aren't familiar, the corpo AU takes place some time after The Sun ending. Val gets a lead on a huge corpo gig, but she'll need a partner to go undercover and guess who her best candidate is?! It's Mitch, it's always Mitch.

This WIP has been a very big challenge for multiple reasons:

I have never written the fake relationship trope

it's a slow burn and I am not known for my patience

I am not posting it until it's complete, and has been revised

#3 is the really big pain, because I want that dopamine, but also because after it's done, I want to possibly rip it up and redo it.

It’s early when Val lets herself into the Afterlife. Claire won’t be in for a few hours so she should have the place to herself. She needs to write up protocols for Crispin on handling gigs and mercs while she’s away. While she will still be reachable in an emergency, there is no reason to risk that call being intercepted and blowing their cover. The faint sound of thumping bass and scratchy synths grows louder as she approaches the back of the bar, and light seeps into the hallway from Nix’s office. The netrunner dances at his desk, tapping away at keys while his shoulders, hips, and legs keep time to the beats.  Val leans against the door frame and crosses her arms. “You here early or late?” Without turning, Nix answers, “I’m late and you are way too early, Boss Lady. Looking for my report?” “Among other things.” “I’ll email the full findings, but short of it is the identities are clean solid. Took the liberty of digging up some photos of your man Mitch. Cleaned him up and ran him through the deaging filter, slapped a suit on him. Not too shabby for an old Nomad.” At that Nix turns to look at her, and she steps into the office, joining him at the desk and peering over his shoulder. Young Mitch stares back—full head of mussed black hair, twinkling blue eyes, unlined and unscarred face. Handsome. “Huh. Nice work. Need anything from me?” “Nope, already took care of yours. Easy enough to find pics of Night City’s most famous living merc.” He grins at her and she rolls her eyes.  “Just so long as they don’t connect my face to the name.” “Speaking of names, the identities are blank. You have names you want to use?” She rests her hand on her fist as she thinks. “What are the chances we can just use Mitch’s name? That eliminates the issue of him forgetting and not responding.” Nix turns back to the terminal and clacks away at the keys as he pulls up Mitch’s files. “Aside from the obvious issue of two Mitch Andersons with the same face, it shouldn’t be a problem. The name is common enough.” “So how do we get around that? In case someone decides they want to know more about him.” Standing, Nix hums and mirrors her posture. “If they’re just doing a search on the local Data Pool, there shouldn’t be any problem. Anything deeper,” he trails off. “Got an idea. Let me do a little more digging and I’ll let you know what I find.”

i think the hockey gods are looking down at avs fans and laughing. not only did the colorado avalanche get eliminated by their divisional rivals, they lost their seventh straight game 7 AND their spurned ex scored a hat trick! sure, a dallas team traded away luka doncic, but a different team acquired mikko rantanen- and in the latter trade, the avs are the one with egg on their face.

in other news, i'm now taking suggestions on who to bandwagon for the rest of the playoffs. i'm leaning towards the caps, but i will hear other arguments.

Anyone who knows me knows that I love making people cardiophiles, so here's a compiled list of my cardiophile AUs (some more formed than others) with links to all of the content.

Jenson cardiophilia au - brawn get a stethoscope sponsorship and it's a dream come true for jenson, making his relationship with Shov even stronger. (Shovson)

Haasbands cardiophilia au (created in collaboration with @watercolor-hearts ) - Nico is a cardiophile who tries to keep his kink hidden from Kevin, but it proves difficult when Kevin offers to help keep an eye on his blood pressure.

please disregard if this isn't for you, and my apologies if that's the case, but if not. hello! i would like your opinion on what would be in the leafs' (or other hockey players if you wish!) scent profiles in the omegaverse

first couple lines of that scared me WHEW ok ok. im not like. an a/b/o Guy as in. like. it's not entirely my thing but ive been known to dabble occasionally if the going's good. that to say i'm taking "scent profile" to mean like. a) what "designation" they have (a/b/o) and b) what like their Smells are. if that's not the commonly accepted meaning of the terms that's ok but it Is the question i am answering

am34: to me in my beautiful world am34 is an omega BUT not in a standard way... he's transgender but re: a/b/o designation not gender. like a/b/o is essentially just a second sex class (there exist in the a/b/o universe 6 "sexes" (not accounting for intersex people in the normal way/intersex people in the a/b/o way): alpha male, alpha female, beta male, beta female, omega male, omega female) and auston is transitioning/has transitioned from alpha to omega. in my mind this works basically the exact same way transitioning does irl, but with different hormones, because obviously a/b/o hormones are diff from m/f hormones!) anyway he would smell similar but different pre- and post-transition: sharp, hot and chemical, like jet fuel and citric acid. eating grapefruit at the airport. it gets sweeter as his transition goes on. lemon slushy by a construction site. they're putting tar on the sidewalk.

mitch marner: mitchy's alpha thru and thru... the leafs uncles do Nawt enjoy this because why isn't he using his ALPHA VIBES to intimidate the other goaltender into sucking... ah well. anywhay... mitch smells animal. sticking your face into a cat. wet dog. wool. locker room, but how you imagine the locker room in gay porn fantasy smells. a little bit of light petrichor when things are getting Really weird.

william nilliam: ALSO alpha. when the leafs drafted am34 ppl were suddenly Weird about this realization there were 3 alphas on the team... were they gonna fight? for a while there was really only the one alpha (phil kessel) and now all of a sudden the big three prospects were all alphas. there was concern! they should trade the little swedish brat! and then auston transitioned and the core was balanced (2 alphas, 2 omegas, and morgan <3) and everyone was like. ok. okay. mitchy and willy (and auston pretransition) were all fun and cool with it they WERE. it's harder now that am34's an omega and they have to regularly resist challenging each other over him but it's all fun and good! they're friends! anyways william nilliam smells like open sky. the wind off the water. wild grasses and night air. ozone.

john tavares: jt has been bonded to his alpha wife since his isles days and understandably as a result he smells Super bonded, but also like leather and rubber and polyester. blue jeans. ironic for mr kombucha man but what can you do

matthew knies: OMEGA !!! two arizona omegas wrow! sidenote for the readers in this a/b/o world a's and o's aren't like. A huge section of the population but they also don't entirely tend to get filtered out of or into the nhl... alphas exist in the nhl at similar or higher rates to the genpop, and omegas at similar or slightly lower rates. if alphas and omegas are each 10-15% of the population (combined 20-30%) that means that there's usually ~4-6 alphas + omegas combined on any given nhl team, give or take a few because percentages don't usually work that way. leafs have 5 alphas (mitch, willy, max, benny, dewar) and 3 omegas (am34, jt, kniesy). kniesy is one of those handful of people who is randomly like super educated about a/b/o biology etc etc. like dude paid attention in sex ed class??? i guess??? he smells a little bit like cheap tequila and a Lot bit like breakfast food, scrambled eggs and that very specific diner toast smell and those maple breakfast sausages. don't forget your orange juice!!

max domi: max is an alpha, like his father. and he smells alpha like his father, salted caramel and bitter coffee and sour apple.

connor dewar: pine tar and unscented soap and smoke and a bloody steak. a lot of people don't always clock him as alpha because he doesn't have the often like. strong or dominant scents of a typical alpha, but he's just a Nervous Guy. get the right omega around him and you WILL be able to tell he's an alpha lol

simon benoit: also coffee like max, but much less of a cheap cup made by someone trying to stay awake and much more of a seven-dollar latte made by someone with a nose ring. a bowl of ramen noodles with the highest spice level they'd let you pick. spring onion. farmer's market in a big city with food you've never seen before.

The Summerdreams landed to lavish the twins with love.

Gabe was quietly relieved when Nico bid farewell for some time in the city, leaving him with just the extra company of Puck's parents. He knew how faerie clans liked to gather together - his brother Jason had hosted the Summerdreams for some time in his home, too, easily convinced by his wife Rose. An appreciation for faerie culture helped with such a decision of course! As the days stretched on, though, Gabe felt his good cheer also stretching into a grin. Oberon and Titania were no hazy hedonists when it came to their grandchildren (they would resume partying post-school age); Iver and Robyn were watered, sun-warmed, and overall very well enriched.

A trio of live-in grandparents gave both Jules and Puck priceless opportunities to rest and recharge. The former even had time to step in and rescue the marriage of her good friends Mitch and Max! Well, it wasn't a complete superhero moment, but she was able to check in and remind them of everything they'd been through over the years. Was it worth a shot to become a true blue couple once again? They both looked at each other, shoulders dropping, taking deep breaths, and answered yes.

Then, when Petruchio passed away curled up in a blissful ball in his favourite bed, the family truly appreciated being under the same roof, tending to the same garden.

Gabe let tears fall onto many shoulders, and was a shoulder for others. Grief was well navigated as a tribe.

Outgoing Senate Republican leader and suspected turtle Mitch McConnell had the nerve to accuse two federal judges of playing politics after the judges reneged on their retirements following Donald Trump’s victory this year. “They rolled the dice that a Democrat could replace them, and now that he won’t, they’re changing their plans to keep a Republican from doing it,” McConnell said Monday in a speech on the Senate floor.

He warned that the judges would face ethics complaints if they remain on the bench. “If these circuit judges unretire because they don’t like who won the election, I can only assume they will face significant ethics complaints based on Canons 2 and 5 of the Code of Conduct for U.S. Judges, followed by serial recusal demands from the Department of Justice. And they’ll have earned it,” McConnell said in a huff. McConnell was referring to U.S. District Judge Max Cogburn of North Carolina and U.S. District Judge Algenon Marbley of the Southern District of Ohio both announced they would remain on the bench in active service, preventing Trump from choosing their replacements. Already, Republicans were blocking President Joe Biden from choosing their replacements by utilizing the blue slip process, in which senators from the home state of the nominee can block their confirmation by objecting to their nomination. It takes a lot of nerve for McConnell, of all people, to make this complaint.

Yes, that McConnell, who stole a Supreme Court seat and multiple federal judgeships from President Barack Obama—which McConnell has called his greatest accomplishment in his long tenure of norm-breaking in the Senate.  McConnell refused to even hold a hearing for Merrick Garland, the judge Obama nominated to replace Antonin Scalia, who died suddenly. McConnell’s excuse was that the vacancy occurred less than a year from the next presidential election, and that voters should get to have a voice in choosing whom they wanted to replace Scalia on the high court.

i’m obligated to preface this by saying i’m hugely biased as a Leafs fan who grew up in Southern Ontario. my dad has always been a pretty big Tie Domi fan, so liking Max just seemed like a natural continuation of that.

born March 2nd, 1995, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, one month before Tie was traded (back) to the Leafs, Max spent his childhood in Mississauga, Ontario, roughly half an hour west of Toronto. at the age of 12, following some health complications at a hockey tournament in Detroit, blood work revealed that Max had type 1 diabetes and celiac disease. 

not the end of the world, clearly, but a pretty significant shock for a kid with aspirations of greatness. of course, he was able to manage it, with time, and when i finally read his book i’ll tell y’all more about it i promise.

scored a hatty in his OHL debut (slay). won consecutive OHL championships with the London Knights in 2012 and 2013 (double slay). selected 12th overall by the Phoenix (now Arizona) Coyotes, and signed a three year ELC (!). won gold with Team Canada at the 2015 WJC, and was named the tournament’s best forward (huge W). traded to the Montréal Canadiens in 2018, to the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2020, to the Carolina Hurricanes (via the Florida Panthers) at the trade deadline of March 31st 2022, to the Chicago Blackhawks in July of 2022, to the Dallas Stars in March 2023, and finally signed as a free agent to our beloved Toronto Maple Leafs on July 2nd 2023. he’s been on seven different NHL teams since he was drafted. 

sadly, as i’ve only been a hockey fan for one calendar year, i cannot provide much insight into his time with NHL teams other than the Leafs. i have ordered and am waiting for his book to come in so i can better rotate him in my mind, but i encourage anyone who knows more about his other teams’ lore to add to this post or send me what you know, so i can share it with the world. (pls i wanna know everything about him ever)

what i can say is that him and Mitch Marner were teammates on the London Knights for two seasons, (13-14 and 14-15), the second of which saw Max as captain and Mitch as an alternate captain. the season after, Mitch was named captain in Max’s stead. seeing them back together on the Leafs brings joy to my little London Knights heart.

now back to him as a Leaf.

the first five of these are pretty much to be expected, but there’s my close good friend Max Domi right there too :) he’s doing his part, and even if he’s not the biggest scorer, assists are just as important and valuable :) if i have to kill y’all with positivity for this i will :) i love him dearly :)

also, he currently sits at 389 career points, and he’s nowhere near done, while Tie Domi earned 245 points in his entire career of 1020 games. nobody can say shit to me about him not living up to his dad’s legacy (Note: Tie also sits at third in NHL history for penalty minutes with 3515, but that’s a stat nobody will ever surpass. ever. the current PIM leader in the NHL is Corey Perry, and he only has 1392.)

and now i’m not about to sit here and pretend i know how to quantify the skills of an NHL player, let alone describe them in great detail. i do not. however, what i do know is that i love watching him play and make plays. in my eyes, he is a good player, and this is the Max Domi Propaganda Blog so if you want something less biased i can’t help you, sorry :’)

this love began in a preseason game against the Habs, on Oct 2nd. his first game as a Leaf in Toronto, he scores a tip-in against his former team, and he shrugs it off like NBD. for those of you who were following me at the time, you know i was not normal about it then and i am not normal about it now. i think about that celly every goddamn day. 

much to my great sorrow, they Leafed this game up and lost in OT 5-4. but either way, this was the moment that definitively kicked off the Rick eastoncowan Domishka era. 

and the only time Max ever seems to get a scoring chance, it’s either on a breakaway or from a spot that would have been absolutely NASTY if it went in. my mans only wants sexy goals, which is a stance i respect immensely. 

his first regular season goal… didn’t give him any points. it was beautiful, and a game winner, but since it happened in a shootout, it didn’t count towards his points totals. personally, i think this is bullshit, but now is neither the time nor the place for me to get into my issues with some of the NHL’s rules. now i’m not going to go back and gif all 18 of his assists, because i don’t think y’all care quite that much about Visual Proof of all of them. for your convenience, though, i did go back and track down whose goals he had assisted on, and the results aren’t super surprising IMO

anyway, now for what is quite possibly my favourite game that i didn’t actually get to watch live.

December 16, 2023, Penguins @ Leafs, a decisive 7-0 victory.

it was also a 3 point night for Max, two of which helped to complete Matthew Knies’ Gordie Howe hat trick, the first since Daniel Winnik in 2015. but a goal and an assist are only two parts of it, the third being a fight. a fight which Knies initiated against John Ludvig after he knocked out yet another of Max’s front teeth with his stick. a fight which was Knies’ first ever. i’m still mad i didn’t see this happen live, but i’ve rewatched the game in its entirety twice, and the highlights too many times to count. this game sparked my undying love for the 23-11-16 line, which is a line i still pray keefe will bring back.

and so, we have a goal and a fight, and we have an assist to finish off the hat trick, and none of it would have happened without Max :)

and speaking of fights, Max has had a couple of em himself in his time as a Leaf so far. granted, if you ask hockeyfights dot com, he didn’t win either of them, but that’s not what matters. what matters is that he looked beautiful doing it, whether it was against Ian Cole (VAN) or Sam Bennett (FLA), especially with the fun added bonus of him flexing his full head of hair at Bennett’s bald dome. as an aside, i fucking hate Sam Bennett, so Max trying to fight him was… well it made me feel things. all i’m gonna say.

max’s third goal was also gorgeous. stunning. amazing. another beautiful bardown, the sound of which lives on in my dreams.

this is getting far longer than it really needs to be, so i’ll take a step back and give you my true, honest thoughts.

Max Domi has been a very helpful player for the Leafs since he got here. he obviously has the drive to play here and to play well here, and 21 points is nothing to be ashamed of. you know who else has 21 points as of me writing this? Alex Ovechkin. and now i’m not saying they are players of the same caliber, but Max is 6th on the Leafs in points, and Ovi is tied for first on the Caps. 21 points is still 21 points, no matter where in the standings someone is. Max was born to be a Leaf, and nothing makes me happier than to see him here and thriving on the team he’s loved since he was a kid. he takes shots, blocks shots, defends his boys and is defended right back in turn. 

and i would not be Rick eastoncowan if i didn’t mention that i think he is hot. like stupid hot. especially without his teeth. fuck, the heart wants what the heart wants, and damn if my heart doesn’t want this tiny toothless idiot.

Cornwall, Regan, and Kent. I've heard a lot of people have Kent be asexual and/or aromantic so I gave him both traits. But his in-game preference is men so that'll be fun.

Antonio, Beatrice and Benedick. Benedick's blue eyes threw me for a loop and I spent far too long looking all over the wiki to see where he got them from.
