Everytime I see hate towards PV it's always about:

"Felix doesn't love ladybug" / "chat noir is manipulative" / "too toxic" / "It doesn't work"

Its not the worst ML episode but I just HATE preachy episodes. If I wanted this kind of content, Id watch captain planet. Like yes it is important to recycle and reduce use of plastics... but this episode made me want to actually go downstairs and get a plastic water bottle for a drink just because of how annoyed I was.

The action in this wasnt bad and I actually found the King of Plastic funny until they redeemed him.

I think I rate it lower than it actually is because of personal preferences but it is just annoying

But anyway. Back to it. Disclaimer, I haven’t read orv in the longest time, so bear with me.

Here is what I remember from the fun and exciting possible romance arc of Han Myungoh. He runs off after getting hit with Asmodeus's curse… and then 3 years later, we see him in the demon realm. As a demon. With a kid.

...You know, I squinted so hard at this that you've actually forced me to reread the chapter that explains this shit. Good job.

It turns out it is strikingly similar to the formulae that otome isekai and similar stories I read use. Let's, for the sake of convenience, call Han Myungoh 'FL' and Asmodeus 'ML'.

Our brave FL, after experiencing certain dealings with our ML, gets knocked up. She runs away, but in the process, gives birth to a child, who she loves with all her heart. But, at a certain point, she realizes she can no longer protect her child, so she turns to the only person who would have interest in doing the same thing: the other parent. Indeed, the other parent is interested in their child, and they form a contract: the FL is rewarded handsomely with status and protection in exchange for the child. The FL, in a weak position and having little other choice, accepts the contract, but resents it. She would do anything to get the child back, and does, in fact, do anything that the ML tells her to do, and...

And that's Han Myungoh. I fudged a little, but that's actually the canon plot for this guy in orv. I really didn't think much of this ship, but seriously, when I look at this way, it really does look like a standard otome isekai romance with a bastard male lead. I'm crying, this is hilarious. Is this what you saw, anon? This is so funny, I'm dying.

See, here's the thing, if this was an otome isekai, I could then tell you how this would go, which is this: while the FL resentfully does tasks for the ML, the ML grows to have a certain respect for the FL due to competence reasons, and the FL grows to appreciate ML for dispensing certain kindnesses (hey, stockholm syndrome!). Eventually, we get to a point where they're probably resentfully attracted to each other, but they both refuse to admit it, because FL still thinks ML is evil and ML thinks FL is beneath him. But then! But then something dramatic happens. Either FL's life or ML's life is threatened. Perhaps the child's life is threatened. Maybe all of the above. But anyway, there's some lifesaving going on, where FL/ML is so touched that the other saved them/had such concern for the child and then they declare their love for each other and then they officially get married and then it's a happily ever after and then I hurl my book across the room, probably.

I'm paraphrasing, there would probably be a bit more room between the lifesaving and getting married bit. Probably self awareness into the fact that they're in love and then an awkward "sorry I took your kid or whatever, let's go on a date" kind of dealio.

But I digress. Here's the thing. Here's the thing.

You could totally just write a canon divergence fic where everything I've just said happens, and it wouldn't even be hard. Sure, you'd have to nudge a few things over, but Han Myungoh does actually save Asmodeus's life once, even if is, you know, mostly related to Asmodeus being in his daughter's body, and Asmodeus briefly contemplates "is this what love is like?" or, you know, something like that. That actually does fit into the structure I've outlined above and I am banging my head onto my desk because of it.

I like how good this show is being about show not telling that Tahir, terrifying as he is, is not quite the monster he seems to be.

Like here, she tells him to close the window so the kid won’t get sick, and he complies without a word.

Or here, when she snarls at him and he doesn’t say a word back. (Girl, you got balls, and I love you for this, but perhaps it’s not super wise to piss off scary mob hitman in charge of whether you live or die.)

Or here when he goes to help her carry the kid (love her reaction btw - she is such a fierce mama bear.)

Or when he helps her with the plastic covering, just automatically. And I love that this does not soften her - it shouldn’t! He’s a mob killer and he may very well off her and her kid if ordered (I mean we, as the viewers, realize he would never because he’s the ML, but she has no such idea.) I am so fascinated as to how she will ever warm up to him! (But then, that is what I wondered about Siyah Beyaz Ask or Engin’s own Fatmagul and they ended up doing it so well!)

It is much too early to ship them - I am sure Farah would happily gut him with a rusty knife for a chance to escape - but their chemistry is amazing.

This is my oc Zuxy but Miraculous AU™and I’ll ramble about it under the cut :)

She’s basically in Adrien’s role. Rich kid who happens to be the villain’s kid that has a parent in the basement.

Doesn’t speak much at all cause she got tired of policing herself to Not Hurt The Brand, actually most people think she’s mute and wouldn’t reconize her voice and because of that, Cat Noire just Doesn’t Shut Up at all. 

Fences like Adrien but is also the Art Kid™ because, projecting.  Cares a lot about her hair and hates to keep it long but mommy won’t allow her to cut it.

Her personality is pretty much normal Zuxy and by that I mean very tired of existence. Good actor and manipulator (mommy’s genes I guess) but bad with genuine human interaction. Also a sarcastic little shit. Curses like a sailor. 

Got asked about catgirls once by reporters and just said “nya” and left.

B) I say it like uh-non! since I pronounce anonymous uh-non-ih-mus so it's just a shortened version of that

C) oh man I'd say my favorite part is that we're so focused on platonic pairings and content instead of romantic! ofc there's the dnf side of things, but I still think the majority of the fandom tends to focus more on platonic relationships than anything else which is just really refreshing to me. all of my past fandoms have been very heavily ship-centric, so it's just been really nice to get to explore such a wide variety of platonic relationships instead

D) I mean idk if I'd say i'm technically still in the fandom, but miraculous ladybug I guess which I got into back in late 2015? I still keep up with the general gist of what's going on and follow a lot of ML blogs, but I haven't actually watched the show in years and I don't really participate in the fandom anymore. by different standards though I could say atla since I was super into atla when I was a little kid (like 2007 so 7 years old) and have always had a soft spot for the show, but I didn't actually get into the online fandom till 2019 so idk if that counts lol

E) first official fandom as in participating in an online community? animal crossing new leaf which I joined around late 2014. I'd never been involved in an online community before that and it's the reason I joined tumblr because I wanted to participate in online trading, though idk if acnl would count as a fandom necessarily. if we're talking more traditional fandoms, miraculous ladybug in late 2015 was my first experience with real online fandom culture and that was also the first piece of media I posted fanfic for!

F) embarrassingly enough I don't actually read that much outside of fic lmao. I used to read a TON when I was younger, but now whenever I sit down to read a book I just think of how much I want to write my own stuff. though if I had to pick a fav book genre, I really enjoy modern fantasy or horror type stuff. think the invisible life of addie larue and burn our bodies down. also I just really enjoy anything that explores toxic or messed up relationships in complex ways because I think it's fascinating

G) no I've never tried to write a 'spicy' work. back in my previous fandoms where I wrote a lot of ship-centric stuff I would write makeout scenes, but that was about as intense as it got. I never really enjoyed reading smut or anything close to it. no reason in particular, just wasn't my cup of tea, so I never had much of a desire to try writing it for myself either

Cleaning up my OneNotes - closing the past campaigns, I found the pic I had with my STA Original Series-era character.

Doctor Sutter Nathaniel “Nate” Armitage, Lt. J.G.

Serial 033 9638 ML Assignment USS Yamato NCC-1715 Position Medical Officer, Senior Psychologist/Councillor (Pilot program)

Nate was born to a backwater human colony that hides a number of secrets. The people there have queer beliefs that are often disturbing to more rational Federation worlds. Their idiosyncracies stem from the colony’s founding was based on humans who had been deposited on the world from abductions and other strange disappearances. The planet itself also has a number of strange subspace phenomenon. The result the world, when even discussed, is dismissed as “spooky,” “backward,” and “weird.”

Nate embodies almost all of these. In a strong tradition of Star Fleet medical, it has a strange aversion to cold rationality and embraces almost romantic notions about how the universe works. He wear glasses, goes nowhere without a his signature non-regulation jacket and a worn (but very resilient) knapsack with his notebook, a horror novel or three, a couple of archaic ink pens, a small tuning fork, knicknacks, amulets, and other paraphernalia.

So Nate is a mix of a Cthulhu Mythos character, Daniel Jackson from Stargate/SG-1, Luna Lovegood, and (early seasons) Fox Mulder.

His thing about all the archaic stuff seems normal until he explains about it.  On his colony world, ideas are believed to be sentient, and knowledge and the self are intertwined. Therefore it is bad luck to have all the known info of a thing in a single location (that’s how you get cursed books and people), so you need to break up what you know across different media.  Then it gets weirder, coming from that idea of knowledge and self.  His personal effects (the books, the inks, the jacket, the bag all incorporate some of his DNA and cloned cells in their material construction. Others are bits of cultural beliefs he collects when encountering other cultures (he only takes gifts, or items that are being sold). Ergo, the knowledge never “really” leaves his self. And he’s wary of alien computers or records that do not have some personal element of the author left to them.

His weird point of view sometimes makes him react to mundane situations with a bit of anxiety, but conversely when in really sanity-shredding events his calm is almost uncanny. And on a 5-year deep space exploration mission, you get a lot of those reality-shattering events - hence the reason for the pilot ship’s counsellor program for new 5-year mission assignments.

And to make things a bit comedic, he’s also got a thing for non-humanoid sapient aliens - because it isn’t Classic Trek without someone in the crew trying to get busy with aliens that are encountered. What I Liked

a great cast of main chars!!! the entire team of wonton insurgency makes me Feel for them, and all of the side chars have their own roles and relationships separate from the leads and i love them all so so much, tbh the platonic relationships in this wn are just as important as the romantic, and that's just so so rare in danmei

the ship itself: sweet gentle doting gong and free-spirited independent powerful shou, dong zheng and cui zuojing behave A Lot differently from tbbf's louchi but they. they lowkey give me louchi vibes. it's gotta be the gong/shou archetype the author went w, which is like... a criminally underused combo. when i say i want more louchi-like dynamics it's this kind of combo that i want.

dong zheng is sweet and gentle and so so sincere in his love, def not the possessive sort of ml. he knows cui zuojing has an agenda, has companions he holds dear, and he just... he just does his best, and he believes in his feelings and also cui zuojing's feelings. sigh i often pitied him in the beginning bc emotion-locked cui zuojing is lowkey a slag shou from a reader's perspective lmao.

i actually have a lot to say abt dong zheng. he's so cute. he's scared of ghosts and isn't afraid to admit it n to cling to cui zuojing. he has Feelings n expresses them straightforwardly, communicates like a mature adult would, y'know. and in the extras, when cui zuojing visits his apartment and sees how hard he's tried to make it homely and nice bc of his wish for a home... like, this guy is the kind of person who could prob live a relatively well-off life considering he's like. molded out of the "domineering ceo w sad childhood" trope except he actually grew up to be reasonable, but he prob wouldn't rly be truly happy until after he met cui zuojing.

and cui zuojing... he's also so interesting. have you ever wondered how someone who got isekai-ed will turn out after they return to the real world? he's basically childe who came out of the abyss. after spending "three years" in the pure white realm, the "real world" has become dull for him. he lives a lonely life after being cursed by "time" and goes back to the world he loves to fight against the fate he hates. he self-proclaims that his heart is too soft, and that's why he locks his feelings up so he can focus on the path of his revenge. love is prob not in the books for him, but he met dong zheng purely by chance, and from seeing him as a useless baggage, slowly grows to become teammates and then lovers. basically. i'm just glad they both met each other.

the worldbuilding... after the first box hamelin there was this description of the pure white realm that just rly captured the atmosphere and aesthetics and i just felt like i would rly rly like this wn then. tbh the entire story reads somewhat more like a shounen if that makes sense? it also lowkey gave me pandora hearts/shugo chara vibes

as a note abt that description of the pure white realm... wow i basically got chills when the description was reprised in the ending, but in wang que's pov as the new queen. while cui zuojing viewed the pure white realm as a returning pilgrim who saw the castle as the endpoint of his journey, wang que saw the realm from the castle, as a new queen. "this was the pure white realm he was familiar with"... and "this was her pure white realm".

it features a cameo from "kuroko tetsuya" which in itself elevates the wn a wee bit more just bc i love kurobas lmao

speaking of, it's p surprising that the cast is? multi-racial? n that everyone r portrayed well without being like super pro-chinese. like chiryuu nana is one of cui zuojing's og teammates (and even after she became the queen's lackey, it wasn't bc of some racist anti-jp sentiment but bc she was genuinely lonely and hopeless), allen is one of the wonton's og teammates n such!! a beloved char!!!!, both heinrich n beverly r fun, victor is ofc a staple, lillian is just chilling at fu zhe's castle, even the onsen proprietress kazama eri was just kinda infodumped as oh she's japanese but the author doesn't rly... go into the specifics of their goods and bads, they're just living in the pure white realm.

I CRIED AT THE ENDING i cried when wang que became queen n made dong linhai forget n when everyone had to leave i cried when victor decided to stay back and cui zuojing went back alone i cried when cui zuojing picked up a new cat who will accompany him in place of uncle im crying writing this afnsddskl

What I Disliked

didn't dig cerberus/fu zhe all that much like i know their story needs wrapping up but i rly wish there more extras on dongcui and not them esp as the last few extra chapters lmao

lowkey the emotional lock feels like forced drama on the topic of "does cui zuojing rly like dong zheng back" like duh ofc he does

some chapter transitions r rly wack, off the top of my head there was the bald soprano arc which just Started Happening n i was like wtf did i miss a chapter????

there r also some arcs that felt draggy altho i feel like it's less bc the subject isn't interesting n more of an "i dont rly care for this" problem (like the gambling abyss lmao didnot care abt cerberus's struggle unfort)

the...climax. or... uh, lack thereof. the final showdown w the queen was p anticlimactic lmao so much for cui zuojing's revenge??? like plotwise everything makes sense, i just wish the execution would've been more epic. tbh everything post fog village n meeting chiryuu nana felt quite rushed.

Notes

it's strange, sometimes finishing a good wn leaves me w an empty feeling of post-book depression but iwaol (yes i cantspell) leaves me feeling contented and satisfied and ready to read a new wn instead. not even in the sense of craving something to scratch an itch, it's just... the blissful afterglow of a well-crafted story, of seeing it to the end, of feeling glad that i came across this story and picked it up. it's satisfying is the best way to describe how i feel abt it. there r so many things i like abt iwaol, i'd prob just make separate posts as i go along.
