I always thought it was strange the way X3 and X4 kept foreshadowing the clash between X and Zero in X5. In X4 it made a lot more sense because that game revealed that Wily was the creator of Zero, so he was originally designed to be the antithesis of X. But in X3 this future prediction drops in without so much as a shred of context to tell anyone why X eventually has to fight Zero. It's like Capcom was somewhat in a hurry to finish the main events of Mega Man X, well before they decided to keep the series going after X5.
Though it doesn't really matter for me to say this over 25 years since this game existed, I don't think spoiler dropping this crucial piece of lore this early on into the series was a good idea, I'm sure all it likely did was raise eyebrows and turn heads.
classic fans are not having a normal one because one of the implied futures in the games is that rock (after being returned to his civilian form) is kidnapped by wily (time traveling from the past), remodded into a combat robot and forced to fight his past self (in non-mainline games exclusive to the gameboy and wonderswan systems). on the other hand we're balling and doing whatever we feel like with canon. rockman in general is just "well you win some you lose some" y'know
okay yeah i can imagine why the quint situation would drive you guys nuts
classic usually stresses me out a lot less conceptually because i pay way less attention to story elements. i suppose there is a trade off. you can ignore story stuff and say fuck it we ball to just draw the characters doing whatever you want or you can Descend Into The Abyss which is trying to make all of these elements make sense in one coherent story (which is… an experience when it comes to X)

For the first time in ages, I had thoughts about Mega Man X again. Specifically an alternate take to MMX3 where Aero was an assistant to Doppler before he followed Sigma. (Which, in an of itself, is part of an alternate timeline where X and Aero met not long after X was found.)
The sting of Aero refusing to believe that what Doppler did was a lie. Her taking a Ride Armor to fight X. Perchance Doppler left a message behind for her in admitting that he knew he was going into a trap, but he didn’t want that to stop her own engineering genius. He still wants her to grow, and learn, and make friends even when the possibility of forgiving him is low.
