well i… finished act 5 act 2. gonna have to rewatch cascade a bunch of times and probably read the act summary on the wiki but i have officially reached the end of the act

still enjoying it a lot but it’s getting harder and harder to read. summing up a rant i gave my friend, i’m not super in love with the sense of predestined futility - or more accurately, i don’t feel that the narrative has properly addressed that yet and justified why i should be reading about these characters who were like 100x doomed from the start.

there are so many characters and so much happening that nothing is lingered upon, which is nice pacing-wise but not so nice emotional-impact-wise. i also think the “everybody dies a bajillion times and it’s fine until all of a sudden it’s not” thing works against it in a sense, especially when the narrative doesn’t stop to mourn anyone who’s actually dead, bc by the time you realize hey wait maybe like. vriska or dad or feferi/nepeta/equius etc are dead for real it’s been like 200+ pages and you’re like well ok. what do i do here exactly.

and i know that that’s an intentional choice hussie made for how he wanted to craft his narrative - im wishing for things that he deliberately chose not to give. im not trying to say that these choices are flaws in his writing, just that as an audience member i tend to prefer the tlt method of dealing with death, where one main character dies and then the entire next book is about another ripping herself apart because of it.

im not giving up by any means, or even saying that this is what’s dominating my reading experience. like i said im still enjoying myself and appreciate most of the creative decisions that hussie is making. it can just feel very draining i suppose, watching these characters i’ve come to care about - almost all of whom are literal children - fighting so hard so futilely, and so far, imo the narrative hasn’t paid that off. however, with that out of the way, here are (some of, bc this shit was long as hell) my thoughts on the act, more or less in order:

i have literally no interest in johnkat. probably partially bc my friend is so into davekat that ive been conditioned to just wait for that to happen but also bc they have no chemistry. sorry to any johnkat shippers out there but idc it’s boring

Arasol <3 - 5/10

I used to be a strong Arasol shipper actually! I always thought they were super cute and I liked the thought of her dragging his ass out of his hive for ADVENTURE! Although I think Aradia is too... free. Shes a wildcard, a free fairy, she doesn't wait on anyone. I just think she needs someone who can better tie her down, or be able to keep up with her rather then be dragged along. How I enjoy this ship is very situational, I think it would work better flush then pale because of the nature of the two quads, but I mostly see them as close friends, or ex-lovers who just become really good friends

Mitula <3 - 9/10

These two are GOOFY AS HELL BRO!!! In my top ratings charts for sure! What more is there to say? Imagining she can let her guard down with him more easily then some others, they both get GOOFY with it! She handles any outbursts or breakdowns of his pretty well, and they are both just SUPER comfortable and protective of each other! (Latula more so then him, she did threaten Damara in Open Bound over Mituna afterall). 100% that couple who would tell the other they have a crush on someone else, and the other would be in full support like "YEAH!! GET IT BABE!!!" and are probably publicly affectionate because they are Too Cool to care. Overall love these two <3

Meowrails <> - 10/10

THE SILLIES EVER!! SOOOO SILLY GOOFY!!! A top ship 100%, I could dedicate entire posts on why they are SO good and yummy. I know I have in fact wrote entire paragraphs on them already after all (Mod Jade has gotten a taste of these rambles before.) To keep it simple though, they are the two autistic moirails who compliment each other and actually *see* each other for more then "Weird Sweaty Horse Boy" and "Weird Roleplaying Shipper Cat Girl". They help support each other, care about each other, and help the other grow in their own ways too. We were DEPRIVED of more amazing content of these two being pale.

Erifef <3< - 2/10

I think I can understand where this one comes from, but personally it isn't my cup of tea! Eridan might be grouchy sometimes and yeah he can get on Feferi's nerves, but I never really saw it more then Feferi sorta being like that? As well as I can't really see Eridan having too huge of pitch feelings for Feferi, that's like one of his childhood besties! Ex-moirails sure, but they used to be SUCH goofy friends! Just a low rating because I can't see it happening in really... any quadrant, but even LESS so in the pitch one. I think even if they ended up *disliking* each other, it would be hard for that to turn pitch, based on how Fef was already disinterested in being in a relationship with him. Also, I just don't think Eridan could really... be pitch for her. Again, silly goofy friends.

Karezi <3 - 5/10

I remember while reading Homestuck, I sorta liked this ship, but it never really piqued my interest very much. I think it could be silly and cute, mostly based off of their goofy interactions that they have had in canon. Karkat had a HUGE crush on her after all, and she liked him too. It was super fun in the comic, and I don't really hate it, but I don't really care for it either? It sorta lands middle ground for me. Personally I prefer them as just good ol friends! (With maybe some past romantic issues, like ex's or smthing along those lines)

Johnrezi <3< - 8/10

I LOVE Johnrezi, it was one of my big time ships for a while! These two pitch idiots WILL prank you and you will be pointed and laughed at. Although I could see Terezi taking it a bit too far and that frustrating John, which just adds to that pitch flavor. Brain isn't braining, but I think they bring out more of the chaos in each other and it is VERY fun to see.

he wears a light, sky blue t-shirt. he has jeans on, and a belt on with the shirt tucked in. he wears a yellow scarf, sort of like his godtier hood.

her black velvet dress, essentially. pink ribbon around the waist and all. underneath is a light purple sweater kanaya made her, to which the sleeves stop at her elbows.

wears her typical black shirt. her grey skirt is torn and stops at her thighs. under her skirt is the same colored shorts.she wears a dark grey vest with two rows of buttons, one of them being her aries symbol.

wears a black jacket with the collar fixed and sleeves end at his elbows. underneath is a light grey sweater. on the collar of his jacket is the taurus pin. his shorts are light grey.

of course, sollux has his glasses. he wears a sweatshirt that’s black, and the sleeves stop above his elbows. underneath is a gold and black long sleeve shirt. his pants are also black. hanging from his pants is a chain with the gemini symbol.

karkat vantas

he wears a simple sweater that Dave had gotten him. it has a front pocket with the cancer symbol. he has grey jeans.

nepeta leijon

she has a long sleeve coat that’s faded from olive green to a light grayish green. she wears an indigo cat beanie Equius had gotten her. her jeans have holes in the knees. on her left pocket on her long tenchcoat is the leo symbol.

kanaya maryam

wears a black long sleeve shirt. on top of that is a dark gray vest, with a virgo symbol on the left upper side of the clothing. she has a layered red skirt, the left side stopping above her knee, and the right side stops below the knee.

terezi pyrope and vriska serket

the girls wear mostly matching clothing. both wearing suit like jackets. Terezi’s left pocket has her libra symbol, while Vriska’s right pocket has the scorpio symbol. Terezi wears sweatpants, while Vriska wears wripped jeans. both have white buttonups on. Terezi has a burn scar across her upper face, while Vriska only has one on her right eye.

equius zahhak

he got most of his fashion from Dirk, and being too intimidated to talk to him. he wears a black tank top. along with that, he has baggy grey pants on. he has fingerless black gloves with the sagittarius symbol on the top of each.

gamzee makara

wears a long sleeved purple shirt. the capricorn symbol is embroidered on the back, which Kanaya did. he wears dark gray sweatpants. 

eridan ampora

essentially, almost the same as canon. he wears a purple cape that ends at his shoulders. inside of it has the aquarius symbol. he wears a black sweater that Nepeta gifted him, and navy blue jeans.

feferi peixes

she wears a white bathing suit. her cardigan is fuchsia, with the pisces symbol on her upper right pocket. her shorts are a baby pink.

Erirox - 4/10, they're sibling pilled in my head and its entirely my fault HAHAHA. I was in a humanstuck rp as Roxy and me and my Eridan Rper Friend decided that Eridan veiws Roxy as an older sibling and,, yeah its still like that in my head. There's nothing WRONG with the ship and I enjoyed it sometimes before I ruined it in my brain, its just a Me thing.
