Solarpunk Aesthetic Week is approaching fast. Again. Time does fly, it seems 😂 And like before, I wanted to share some project ideas I had in mind. This is not a strict To-Do list, but more of... suggestions for myself 😆
Continue working on the crochet backpack. Maybe some modular additions?
Continue the cardigan for nibling
DIY Frankensteined cargo pants
Lino carving/stamps/fabric patches
Guerrilla art!
Mending. So much mending. All the mending.
Solarpunk-ify the balcony bit more
I'm spending part of the week at the cottage, so foraging!
And gardening :D
Decorate cottage for Juhannus (Midsummer Eve)!
Photo illustrations? For the solarpunk theme in general and stories I've been writing
Also maybe work on those stories too
Decide finally if the trash blanket becomes a sleeping bag or a coat or if I just mend it....
Finish some of the clothing sewing
Do some Finnish Solarpunk thing for the Localized Solarpunk post
Weave something
See in what conditions mom's old table loom is
Do something for the Helsinki Pride week after the Aesthetic Week (like maybe that woven rainbow band I've been thinking of for forever...)
Perhaps FINALLY translate some information about Solarpunk into Finnish and info dump people :D

♥ Hello guys, today I am building a Japanese Onsen. Kurokawa Onsen, is a small onsen house located in the small town of Wakaba. The hot water of this onsen is extremely special as it is believed to cure any sickness and heartaches. While the building was recently renovated to have a slight modern look, the charm and details of the old architecture remains. Kurokawa Onsen also has a tea area and a bar where locals often celebrate special events and occasions.

Pokemon Reborn Screenshot Let's Play - Prologue
Tumblr media
Black smog and acidic water garnish crumbling structures along the city skyline. Alleys fester with disaster and crime amidst the metropolis, a blemish over the once-vibrant region. Reborn City is ready for a hero.
So this is Pokemon Reborn. I have the biggest love-hate relationship with this game.
Reborn is a Pokemon fangame that's drastically larger in scope from the official games- we're talking all Pokemon up to gen 7, 18 gyms for every type, several sidequests, Mega Evolution and Z-moves- you name it, the game has it.
Basically, the game is a dream for fans who just adore Pokemon and want a larger scope, more difficult game. It's fun to replay because Pokemon is very important to me and I like to play long-term fangames that try to expand on the premise.
So where does the "hate" part come in? Well. The story leaves a lot to be desired. This is a "mature" fangame that wants to take on heavier topics with... mixed results. This is probably gonna be the focal point of this let's play.
Since I've been hyperfixating on this game again, I've been rambling about it to my friends, and they mentioned wanting to know the story, but not actually wanting to play the game, whether because of the time commitment, not being into competitive, etc.
And I could've just sent them a let's play... but I figured, why not make my own let's play for fun? Especially since I plan on doing a 100% run, which would allow me to show several nooks and crannies this game has to offer.
This is sort of an excuse for me to show off all of my thoughts about this game, good and bad. Don't go into this expecting a fully positive or negative perspective from me. You probably won't care for this LP if you are a diehard fan of this game (or a dev. I'm so sorry).
Some Disclaimers:
Major CWs for this game include death, suicide, animal abuse/death, mentions of CSA, child abuse, toxic relationships, and gore. The game does not handle these topics with respect most of the time, particularly in regards to abuse.
There are other triggering topics, but they are limited to a smaller part of the game, and are typically handled well. Those warnings will be added to individual posts.
This is actually my third proper playthrough of Reborn since it's been finished, and my first time trying out the 19.5 update. So most of this is familiar territory for me.
I will be using some mods and passwords. Reborn includes several passwords that affect the difficulty of the game. I will be using some QOL passwords for overworld navigation, but nothing that affects the actual battles, which I'll be keeping vanilla. The passwords I have used are:
-EasyHms, FieldApp, FreeExpAll, FreeFinder, FreeRemotePc, HardCap, MintyFresh (adds mints at the start), MoneyBags, NoPoisonDam, Pinata, PowerPack (EV training items), UnrealTime, WeatherMod
I'm also using some mods from the SWM modular modpack, which again, are mostly cosmetic or overworld changes. The only ones I'm using are:
-Item Radar, Glamazon Shop, Learn Egg Moves, No TMX Animations, Predict Relationship Values, Reusable Premier Balls, Type Battle Icons, and Type Announcer
-I will be going for the Lin route. If I get enough interest, I might go and do the Anna route as well via save file manipulation.
-This is mostly meant for me and my followers, but if this somehow breaks containment, I do not condone sending any sort of harassment to the devs over this game. The vibe here is gonna be more like a book club than anything.
-Even as this is a 100% run, I won't show all my catches or every bit of dialogue for the sake of making things concise.
-This is my first time trying a let's play. Please bear with me as I try to figure this out- I'm bound to make mistakes as I go!
With that, let's begin!

Minimalist, in the practical sense.
This is actually the first recording I made with the "synth voice" case since the great rearrangement of the end of last year. Yesterday I tried sitting down with it, but kept falling into tired modes of patching (which is to say, I was driving the entire patch with Marbles...)
Today, I used this case only, and patched it the way I really intend to - lots of logic, lots of cross modulation, and probably always using an external controller. Until I get a midi input module, that means 0-ctrl.
I saw some wigglers the other day talking about how well Marbles keeps track of external clocks and swing, so I tried it out, and they're right! 0-ctrl is playing with fairly significant time modulation and the 1st and 5th gates mixed together into Marbles running an x4 clock, which sort-of averages out 16th notes.
Past that point, it's hard to keep track of everything going on. Lots and lots of logic and modulation, controlling everything from sequences to "harmony" changes to transposition to sequence order to delay speed. Since a lot of things are left up to chance, sometimes modulations are in phase with each other in a way that makes things "ugly" - for a "proper" song, I'd of course fine tune these out, but this was a nice proof of concept for what I think is the least intuitive of my cases.
It is interesting though, something I wonder about here (that I likely won't have an answer for for a while) is whether I have the balance of modulation outputs and satisfying modulation destinations right. Nibblers will definitely help a lot for tangling those up. And honestly, it's not like everything needs to be patched at once.
The big questions at the forefront of my mind are: 1. Is inertia worth the space? I've tried it out both yesterday and today, but only got satisfying results as the most basic of things like basic slew or LPF. Would it be better ie permanently patched with Cold Mac for broader modulations, or is it worth keeping around at all? 2. As much as I love Erbe-Verb, does it have a home in this case? It does very interesting things under modulation, yes, but not necessarily things that I feel go well with the sound palette of this case. Perhaps I will end up swapping it with my Versio. I feel like Ruina would be great to modulate for constantly changing textures, or Electus or Melotus could create their own pretty textures and go into reverb territory. On the other hand, EV could leave (be set aside, I think I'd always want it on deck) for something else, perhaps Mimeophon or Silhouette if it sounds good when it's out in the world.
There's of course no right or wrong answer, modular is flexible and wonderful sounds can be made with any selection. But there is a right course of action: I should continue to spend time with this case and think critically about the selection. Some patches I'd like to try in the next week or so include using Inertia as an oscillator, using it as an expressive "main" envelope, and rhythmically modulating EV to create a texture/rhythm. Hopefully these things will all sound wonderful, but either way, they will lend useful perspective in setting/staying the course here.

[In February, 2023], a small warehouse in the English city of Nottingham received the crucial final components for a project that leverages the power of used EV batteries to create a new kind of circular economy.
Inside, city authorities have installed 40 two-way electric vehicle chargers that are connected to solar panels and a pioneering battery energy storage system, which will together power a number of on-site facilities and a fleet of 200 municipal vehicles while simultaneously helping to decarbonize the UK’s electrical grid.
Each day Nottingham will send a combination of solar-generated energy — and whatever is left in the vehicles after the day’s use — from its storage devices into the national grid.  The so-called “vehicle to grid” chargers deliver this energy just when it’s needed most, during peak evening demand, when people are home cooking, using hot water or watching TV. Later, the same chargers pull energy from the grid to recharge the vehicles in the wee hours of the night, when folks are sleeping and electricity is cheaper and plentiful.
“We are trying to create a virtual power station,” says Steve Cornes, Nottingham City Council’s Technical Lead. “The solar power and battery storage will help us operate independently and outside of peak times, making our system more resilient and reducing stress on the national grid. We could even make a profit.” ...
After around a decade, an EV battery no longer provides sufficient performance for car journeys. However, they still can retain up to 80 percent of their original capacity, and with this great remaining power comes great reusability.
“As the batteries degrade, they lose their usefulness for vehicles,” says Matthew Lumsden, chairman of Connected Energy. “But batteries can be used for so many other things, and to not do so results in waste and more mining of natural resources.”
The E-STOR hubs come in the form of 20-foot modular containers, each one packed with 24 repurposed EV batteries from Renault cars. Each hub can provide up to 300kW of power, enough to provide energy to dozens of homes. One study by Lancaster University, commissioned by Connected Energy, calculated that a second life battery system saved 450 tons of CO2 per MWh over its lifetime...
Battery repurposing and recycling is set to play a massive role over the coming years as the automobile industry attempts to decarbonize and the world more broadly attempts to fight waste. The production of EVs, which use lithium-ion batteries, is accelerating. Tesla, for example, is aiming to sell 20 million EVs per year by 2030 — more than 13 times the current level. In turn, 12 million tons of EV batteries could become available for reuse by 2030, according to one estimate.
“Over the next decade we are going to see this gigantic wave,” says Jessica Dunn, a senior analyst at the Union of Concerned Scientists. “Companies are recognizing this is a necessary industry. They need to ramp up infrastructure for recycling and reuse.”

As a connoisseur of vehicles and vehicle engineering. Have you heard about the Slate truck? It seems to be a modular electric vehicle made with simplicity and affordability in mind. Might be a gimmick but if does what it promises it seems interesting.
i think it's a fun idea! slate has definitely successfully identified a trend of thought that's becoming more common, the idea that cars are becoming too high-value, and i think an attempt at arresting that upmarket slide is an interesting proposition. if they succeed, i think it would change the market for the better.
there are a few things i'm skeptical about, though.
first: it's a truck. fuck trucks. i hate trucks. i'm so tired of all these goddamn trucks. this is personal beef, i think trucks suck as personal vehicles and i think it is awful that they've become so accepted as such. i think it's deeply grim and depressing that slate's vision of a bare-bones personal car isn't a 3 door hatchback or a subcompact sedan, but a pickup truck. i hate trucks
now, i like that it's a two door. two door compact pickups are the best species of pickup, imo, but i am a pickup truck hater and a car enthusiast. i think a lot of car enthusiasts' opinions mirror mine in this regard, but i suspect that slate's do as well. to me, slate feels like it's a little bit too targeted at enthusiasts who are so captured by nostalgia for an era of car design they can never regain (when pickups were REAL trucks and people died in collisions a modern car could shrug off easily and we LIKED IT THAT WAY!!!). like there's a reason most pickups have four door cabs now. they're better for hauling people, they're better for hauling things like personal items, food, and anything else you don't want to put in the open air, they retain most of the payload capacity of a 2 door, and did i mention they're better for moving people? it didn't use to be that your average pickup could move a sedan's worth of people.
it's genuinely weird to me that slate is choosing to buck this trend, and i think it's going to cost them. nobody wants to buy a truck to use it as a bare bones hauler, nobody except fleet buyers like construction companies and uhaul, but they're not interested in EVs, at least not yet. your average fascist joe schmoe american buys a four door pickup because they need to feel like they're making a smart purchase, and a 2 door pickup that can only seat three people (with the awful uhaul bench seat) is a flagrantly insane value proposition compared to a 4 door pickup with nice front buckets, plenty of in-cab storage, and comparable towing and cargo capacity. they're not gonna use the bed for anything more than what a sedan could be crammed full of anyways, so it's not like they'll be maxing out the payload of their half ton truck. i think people will see the two door slate trucks and suvs and shrug and say "that's cute, but i want my kids to have their own doors" and then they will go and finance a $50k four door gigachad hypercock judge dredd full size pickup instead because that's what everyone else does.
i get the feeling that slate doesn't really know their market, or that their assessment of their market is out of wack with reality. people don't want quirky 2 door pickups. there's a reason 2 door coupes/sedans died in the compact car segment. i think these people are brain poisoned by car enthusiast kool aid and i don't think their truck, cute and charming as it is, will survive first contact with the enemy (David Protestant-Mortgage, who lives in a shitty split level that he fools himself into thinking he'll sell at a profit)
I think that if Slate really wanted to upset the market, they'd instead sell a 5 door compact hatchback/CUV, a bit like the Kia Soul/Lexus UX/Nissan Kicks. those are the new NPC car. they ride high, to make you feel safe and in control, but not so high that you feel like you're driving a truck. they're spacious, reasonably efficient, and if you're stupid american who doesn't know what a hatchback is, perfectly acceptable as a practical daily driver. those cars sell like hot cakes, and a cute, boxy, retro-styled one would do great in that segment. how do i know? because the hyundai ioniq 5 is already doing it.

Heard Kez got absolutely smashed on some jello shots. Ha! Poor kid. Hopefully he had some water during all that, or he's gonna have a wicked hangover. I'm speaking from experience!
[Sound of static fills his ears. Their form looks more humanoid, but they're standing at his right side.]
It was on New Year's Eve nearly 6 years ago. I wanted to test my limits and had a 750ml bottle of some kind of sugary vodka (35% ABV) on hand and wasn't doing too hot in my early-to-mid 20's. I dropped out of college that year due to family struggles, insecurities piling up and too many [Responsibilities]. You see, I was always to myself a lot… I just wanted to fit into the picture without being a total nuisance to everyone. I was invited to a small party with some old college mates. I didn't feel like spending time with my parents, so I went over to their place instead. So... when I started chugging the bottle down, the group was cheering me on... I really should have stopped...but I fell into peer pressure.
It took away the pain for a while. After I was halfway through the damn thing, I felt the happiest I ever was in a very long time. The more I drank, the more the happiness went away and the harder it was to repress everything. I think—No… I was searching for an answer at the bottom of the bottle. There was nothing. Nothing besides an empty, shattered bottle. I tried. I really did try to pick up the pieces and put them together again, but my worst fear manifests: You can put the pieces back together, but maybe you never fit the picture to begin with.
Needless to say, I couldn't repress what I was feeling anymore and broke down. I had to call my step-dad to come pick me up from the party. I don't remember much after that…besides being very, very sick. I spent the entire next day being hungover. Eugh. I think my parents would have been pissed at me if I didn't look like I was on the brink of death… I can't even smell vodka anymore without getting sick. Honestly, I've had plenty of bad experiences in my 28 years of life—but that night was truly my worst moment, yeah.
[Static fades and they return to the left side of his cot. Their form is back to an owl, but still kind of melted]
Ah! I'm so sorry about that! Something sparked my memory about that day…uh. I'm fine, really. Please tell me you didn't hear anything else…if it makes you feel any better. I don't hang out with that group anymore. I rarely drink nowadays unless it's with the company of family OR very close friends.
After my worst moment, I started to open up more about my feelings and got help. I got a retail job a few months later. Some years down the line, I started working my current job and was able to get a small modular house and my own vehicle. Despite everything that happened that night, I don't regret doing it. Things did get better… It might not be what I've dreamed of, but it's still my life. I want to see it. I want to see what tomorrow will bring.
-🦉🌙 "Luna" [ Hey, don't drink an entire vodka bottle in one sitting, btw. Please drink responsibly. 🦉🍷]
He sure did. He seemed okay. More embarrassed than anything.
Ow, what's that—?
Jeez... That's a lot to deal with at once. Not the healthiest way, but I can't really fault you for it.
That's dangerous...
No surprise there. Sorry you had such a shit experience. At least you never have to go back, yeah...?
No, hey, it's okay— I heard you talking about the vodka and that was about it. I promise you've got nothing to be sorry for.
Guess something good did come of it, then. That's a nice way to look at things. Still my life, and I want to see it. Yeah.
Take care, Luna. Talk soon.
