SLOTH MODE ENGAGED! Finally rolled out of bed and onto the mat after 6 days of lying sick in bed. Being completely still for so long is STRANGE to me and feels horrible. To quote Game of Thrones (of which I’ve seen all seven seasons these sick days) “things are not always as they seemed, much that may seem evil can turn out to be good.” So I guess the takeaway is that I got some quiet time and some stillness. Gonna sit a little on my mat and contemplate, maybe even meditate wether or not this sickness was a good or bad thing for me. I felt drowning in an endless sea of words, as they were first making my diagnosis. Secondary pulmonary hypertension of 4th group. I was freaking out. And I still remember it very clearly, when another doctor said "think of it as a cancer, but it's both in your lungs, and your heart". It is rare, it's deadly, it doesn't (yet) have a cure. ❤️ BUT I live my days knowing that each and every one is so precious. I didn’t play sports growing up. I wasn’t flexible. I started working out as an adult here & there, but was never consistent. I remember saying, “I wish I could do this” & “I wish I was that flexible”, etc... but I never wanted to discipline myself to make it happen. 🙄 I simply used excuses & said, “I can’t”... The trust is, nobody is just in great shape or is naturally flexible. You work for it. 💪🏼 It takes lots of practice, consistency, & discipline. 🙏🏼 & it’s not about is getting into the pose & looking cool (though you do feel cool 😎), it’s about what the poses do for you - mentally, physically, & spiritually. ✨ It’s about reaching goals, & changing your life through yoga & meditation!! 🙌🏼 // I’m unable to do a full split without lots & lots of warming up, & that’s okay. This was the best I could do tonight, but I am happy. It felt good to get an amazing stretch, & have a little meditation in shavasana after class. A year ago I wouldn’t even be close to a split, so I am appreciative to be here now. If you would have told me two years ago I’d be flexible, strong, & teaching yoga, I would have laughed!!! Crazy how things change when we take control of our lives. 🌟 Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself, & get started on your yoga journey. You can practice at home, or anywhere really.
