After rewatching a bunch of Merlin BBC episodes, I’ve decided that I want a Modern!AU story where Merlin adopts Mordred and Daegal. Even though Merlin’s not that old himself, he just can’t abandon these poor kids to get lost in the system like so many others. 

I want single dad!Merlin who eventually falls for Arthur, and I want Mordred and Daegal meddling in Merlin’s love life to help him get together with Arthur, because they just want their dad to be happy.

My Merthur and Merlin sexuality headcanons

Merlin: bisexual and genderfluid. You can’t give me him dressing up as a woman and be caught holding so many dresses in canon and not have him be genderfluid. Also I hate how his canon relationship with Freya and his crushes on Sefa, Morgana, the disguised Nimueh, the troll pretending to be Catrina, and Gwen are erased and he’s just seen as gay. Especially with his raised eyebrows reaction whenever Mithian arrives at Camelot or when he sees Isolde with a sword. He even thought Vivian was beautiful till he learned how rude she was. Just because he didn’t fall under the Lamia’s spell (it’s literally because of his magic not because he’s not attracted to women, he didn’t fall asleep during the sleeping spell in the pilot either, that’s how his magic works!) and just because he got so obsessed with one man (Arthur) doesn’t mean he’s only interested in men. He’s immortal so why would he limit himself to only having relations with one gender for eternity? Or care about his own gender? 

Arthur: gay or bisexual. This one is harder for me because he’s so repressed that I can see him just being gay and also every relationship he’s had with a woman in canon has either been the result of an enchantment (ex: Sophia and Vivian) or there was just no chemistry and it seemed like it would be a friendly platonic marriage for the good of Camelot (ex: Gwen, Elena, and Mithian). But him being bisexual makes sense to me too. Maybe he’s demisexual and just can’t feel that way about anyone till he’s emotionally connected with them and that’s why it seems like he only has romantic and sexual chemistry with Merlin. 

Morgana: I headcanon her as aromantic and asexual most of the time. I can accept and read fics where Morgana is Arthur’s straight sister though because I know she had crushes on men in canon and because Katie McGrath had chemistry with Colin and Bradley and Eoin. However I can only read fics where Morgana is Arthur’s straight sister when she is shipped with certain men who I think she would actually respect and find attractive (Merlin, Gwaine, and Will if he survived). Most of the time I just can’t see her being interested in a relationship with anyone and only finds people attractive aesthetically. I feel like she probably went through a phase thinking she was a lesbian because she wasn’t interested in marrying a man but then she was like wait I’m not interested in being with a woman either... what am I?

Lancelot and Gwen: the straight couple in the group. I just didn’t get the vibe that Lancelot had a thing for Merlin, I feel like he just saw him as a little brother and I didn’t really get Morgana x Gwen either. 

Percival: straight. I didn’t really see the chemistry between Percival and Gwaine.

Gwaine: bisexual.

Leon: the longsuffering asexual friend waiting for Merthur to happen. 

Elyan: ace.

Mordred: gay. I ship him with Daegal.

Princess Elena and Lady Vivian: lesbians. 

Morgause: aroace.

The first character I first fell in love with:  Merlin and Gwen, my beloveds 💜

The character I never expected to love as much as I do now:  Leon 😂 He's really grown on me, especially since I learned of his immortality. I am now obsessed!

The character everyone else loves that I don’t:  .... arthur (sorry) i don't hate him, I just don't love him. He's so interesting as a character, and so I have very complex feelings about him

The character I love that everyone else hates: I dunno about hates, but I feel like we don't talk about Morgause enough? Emilia Fox is very... 😳

The character I used to love but don’t any longer: Gaius... I used to be pretty chill about Gaius and now I'm like .. grandpa is complicit is several war crimes 😬

The character I would totally smooch:  Gwen! Merlin! Lancelot! The list goes on!

The character I’d want to be like:  Gwen, she's kind and brave and stands up for herself and her friends 💜

The character I’d slap:  Oh Uther!! One thousand slaps for Uther!

A pairing that I love: Merlin x pretty much everyone. I am a chronic multishipper. Give me a bit of Gwaincelot, Perelyan, Freylin, Mergwen, Morgwen... even a bit of Merthur to spice things up 😉

A pairing that I despise: hmmm any ships involving Daegal or Mordred (or any of the babies) with older characters without shifting the ages up squick me a bit

Guys, I have had a galaxy brain moment. 

Kara x Sefa 

Listen. First of all, I never was able to read Mordred and Kara as romantic. I don’t know why but I just can’t. Please don’t fight me on this, it won’t help. But the thing is, Kara needs some love. Preferably from someone with slightly less self-sacrificial tendencies.

Solution? Sefa. Here’s why:

They both deserved better. Goes without saying but I’ll say it anyways.

Kara is fighting the fight that Sefa thought Morgana was fighting

A side point, I consider Sefa to have been used by Morgana in a similar way to Daegal, but that’s another rant

Kara needs someone to help her figure out when it’s Murder Time and when it isn’t

Sefa needs someone to help her figure out when it’s time to stand up for herself 

Imagine the two of them pulling off plots? Kara’s sheer confidence with Sefa’s ability to charm everyone she meets? Unstoppable.

They are literally a golden retriever and a black cat, which everyone knows is the best couple dynamic

Just, picture Sefa tenderly healing Kara in the cave. Picture it.

Modern!AU where they meet at a protest? Kara punches a Nazi and Sefa lovingly half-berates her while bandaging her hand? I love them.

Ok after the merlin challenge ends I'm back to writing, but I want to do some mini warm ups now but unconventional. Send me short (preferably specific) Geon (George x Leon) or Morgal (Mordred x Daegal) prompts and I'll write one of those short ficlets for it (I swear this time I'll actually write a ficlet and not 1k+ words please believe me)

Started writing my merlin x George fic and so far:

Merlin and his whole family is Indian/Pakistani and hindu bc its easier for me to write and also bc I said so

On that topic, Merlin us refusing to get rid of a zombie cow that is like, scaring people on the outskirts. Will end with him adopting it.

George's father is a sorcerer and part of a secret resistance.

Will and Leon are at odds. May or may not end up wth them together idk. But I also headcanon them both as aroace so maybe not.

Morgana is heavily implied to be the actual heir. She is engaged to Gwen and Mithian. Mithian is hijabi and Pakistani/Indian.

Uther is going to die is within the first chapter.

Arthur will NOT be present. He's either off being a diplomat in some random kingdom, or he's dead, or he never existed. I love him so much but he isn't needed here. He'll probably arrive at the end.

Hunith kills a man.

Mordred and Daegal are adopted by Geoffrey.

Lancelot goes feral. Like he deserves too.

Percival x Elyan RIGHTS

Gwaine is actually the main character.

Nimueh and Annis are best friends.

Freya and Kara are bi and in a slowburn romance.

Basically, I'm a fucking genius.

OK SO real talk: ik it literally says in my freaking bio that the end of season 5 never happened for me:’D 

but in all honestly? i thought the ending of bbc merlin in terms of arthur dying (albite super fuckin rushed fsssssss) was rlly beautifully done/managed? which is a total tribute to colin and bradley rather than the writers tbh lets be clear ab that

i also think that arthur dying is a large source of the reason why this fandom holds onto the show in such a strong and lovely, commendable way, bc it doesn’t give us room to be satisfied and move on and holds us in the world of camelot and whatever the fuck they planned albion to even be too djdjj....it also means that we get all of the INCREDIBLE fics that we do from amazing amazing content creators bc of the absolute shit we were given from the show as an ending w the totally open-ended possibilities and approximately 0 actually answered questions

if i were to change anything specifically at all, the one important feature i would add as a large LARGE portion of season 5 before even setting up the whole mordred turning psycho shindig is the development of albion itself and whatever the living fuck kilgarrah the massive scaled hippie meant when he said “all you and arthur have dreamed of has come to pass” to merlin

like what the fuck writers,,,,give me that supposed bliss, happiness, and magic inclusive/supportive king arthur instead of that half-assed statement from the apparently dying dragon like bro

imma stop there before i get too too carried away but that’s p much my take on that! left out/forgot a bunch, but thats the basic gist:))
