It is Wolf 359 day (also known as Christmas for some) and since I saw a stoat photoset on my dash I feel compelled to post about daemon hcs.

Eiffel - Word of God is raccoon, and it fits. The poor thing probably looks like she has mange during the season 2/3 timeskip, since there's no way astronauts are stuffing their daemons in spacesuits - they must have to go through some kind of pre-mission training to lengthen their range. They are not trained to get blasted lightyears apart though, rip. That's gotta hurt. Once he's recovered from his ordeal though I'm sure he takes advantage of their massively extended range to cause problems. There's no way I stole those donuts from the Urania's stores, commander! I was here in the comms room the whole time.

Minkowski - white-tailed eagle. This bird is found in Poland, and some versions of the Polish flag have a white eagle. It's also similar to but not exactly like a bald eagle - showing how Minkowski aspires to assimilate into Americanness but can't completely abandon her Polish heritage. Plus pilot = bird, it tracks.

Hilbert - rosencrantz-draws-things did a series of daemon paintings for the characters and while I don't agree with all their choices, I did like chameleon for him. He changes roles and faces when he needs to, whatever helps him survive.

Lovelace - The painting series I referenced gives her lioness, which I don't hate, although the logistics are a bit messy for a space station environment. Given the backstory I've envisioned for her I kind of want to spend more time reading about Puerto Rican fauna and get back to you on this one. How does the daemon situation work with her being a surrogate? Unclear but it sure keeps her up at night!

Maxwell - Ferret! The wonder twins have mustelid vibes to me, and I am always charmed by the story of the ferret who cleaned out the tubing of a particle accelerator.

Jacobi - Stoat to match Maxwell. They are the mustelid twins now. It just feels right.

Kepler - idk I don't care about him.

Pryce - Coconut octopus. Something a little bit unusual and unexpected, requires specialized care and upkeep, and octopi are extremely intelligent, with this species actively modifying its situation via tool use. She can carry him around in his own special tank.

Cutter - I never settled (lol) on anything for him, but given I like the idea of him bodyhopping (this has been thoroughly debunked by Word of God but oh well) I imagine that he keeps around the old body's severed daemon as a smokescreen. This leads to a very animated, lively guy with a strangely inert, unfocused daemon which makes him even more unsettling to everyone. He's impossible to read.

Hera - I saved her for last because she's a special case. When AI reach sentience a block of code just pops up in their programming, and that's their daemon. They're not physical in the same way humans are - why would their soul be? However, product testing indicated humans preferred to see something daemonlike, so customer-facing AIs get holographic projections of cute, non-threatening animals like puppies or songbirds. Hera has a bird until Hilbert takes her offline. When she comes back, she has control over the projection and can make it look however she wants. It's not actually her daemon but she can use it to express herself in a similar way, including projecting her humansona, which scares the crap out of people the first few times they see a random stranger on board.

Daemons in microgravity would be their own headache. I imagine crewmembers get velcro pouches on their uniforms or toolbelts sized for their daemons to keep them from floating away. Smaller daemons are preferable in the same way that there's a height range for astronauts - this is why I'm conflicted about Lovelace. Also, you know I am a #hater of 'daemon touching = sex' in AU settings and believe there are multiple kinds of intimacy, and spaceflight involves everyone getting real cool about a lot of stuff real quickly, so I think by season 3 Minkowski and Eiffel at least are hanging on to each other's daemons when they're out on spacewalks both for convenience and emotional support. (Eiffel is still stressed out about it but more because he is really bad at holding a raptor and scared of getting slashed by talons.) Hera occasionally perches her projection on their shoulders which again doesn't mean the same thing to her but gets the message across. If Jacobi is working on something fiddly Maxwell will be wearing both their daemons around her neck, and vice versa.

Bob does not appear with a daemon while wearing his Eiffel suit. The alternative would probably be more upsetting.

Random rambly updates accompanied by a random in-game screenshot!

First off: After much deliberation, I finally switched over to windowed full screen mode yesterday (yes, it took me THIS long to make up my mind about it). The giant screen is a total sight for my poor myopic eyes but my screenshots come out really long and I’m so not used to it. 😆 I’m looking forward to playing the game with the new settings, but really not looking forward to needing to crop every in-game pic from this point on.

So my question o the other windowed-full-screen simmers out there: How do you handle your in-game screenshots? Do you leave them as-is? Crop them? How do you handle cropping a bigger number of screenshots?

Secondly: I’m still confined to playing my game on the weekends only (being employed full-time sucks that way) which means I have limited time and can only do one or eventually two game-related things before Monday sneaks up on me again. This week, the ‘game-related thing’ was restructuring all my mermaid mods with a view to hopefully adding them to my regular gameplay sometime in the future. Midge’s Mermaid Mods Guide made the process so much smoother (all hail @midgethetree! 💚), but I still have to decide which of the countless, all equally gorgeous mermaid tail sets I’m going to get, and ofc settle on a somewhat consistent mermaid design. I think I’d like my mermaids to look a little more outlandish, kinda like on the pic above! The fella is a test mersim from a throwaway hood which I ended up playing for 5 hours even though I told myself I’d only go in-game to test the new mods, welp!

Last but not least: I’m working on a new BaCC update! There’s still a way to go, but I’ve made solid headway so far (21 out of 33 photosets finished, some 2/3rds still need captions). Dunno when it’s going to be share-ready, but I can tell you for sure that there won’t be a darn five-month gap between BaCC updates like last time. Progress! 😂

Love Sea ep 1 thoughts

a little ramble/unorganized post of thoughts on ep 1 of love sea. so i watched the first ep twice, since the first time i was partially live tweeting some of my reactions and missed a few things. i enjoyed it!! quite a bit too, mostly bc i love fortpeat and i'll gobble up absolutely anything they're in. as with mame stories, in order to enjoy them to the fullest, my brain is off, my fujin glasses are on.

first off: gorgeous shots, even more gorgeous setting. i Love bright colors, and this island is really giving just that. like... NATURE!! so much green from the trees and the underwater shots are so good as well. i'm gonna be a little sad when they return to the city. not sure what episode this will land on but my guess is around ep 4? if they keep the pacing as it is right now.

this was a solid first episode. we get introduced to the main cast, their jobs, and a bit of their personality. and the end of the episode gives a glimpse of tongrak's trauma and a preview of the looming problem that should come to light as the series progresses. i'm honestly Very curious how they're going to handle the main conflict, if they're going to take anything out or change it. i am open to what changes they May do since i've already seen a (in my opinion) good change they made for the last scene on the boat.

in the novel, tongrak actually slaps mut when he tries to wipe his tears. yes, full on bitch slap to the face. which, honestly, when i read that part, i looked up from my phone and was like "ok...but why....." so i'm glad they took it out. i'm not mad about having a slap scene in general, but it seemed like a weird reaction (to me), even with the knowledge of WHY rak behaves the way he does. no spoilers, but i had that ????? reaction more than once throughout the novel so hopefully they're able to better translate book scenes to screen. i'll keep my expectations measured regardless.

i'm also wondering if they're going to have conner show up since we have his voice. not gonna lie, i was 90% expecting them to have silence on the other side when talking to conner on the phone. sorry for not believing in u mame lol.. and speaking of PHONE CALLS, idk if i'm traumatized from LITA but i audibly Cheered when i heard proper phone call audio effects. can u tell my expectations for the audio direction were in the ground lmao. and i'm still holding my breath bc LITA had proper call audio in the first ep but dropped it later. praying for consistency over here.

putting my fears aside, PEAT'S STYLING IN THIS SERIES!!! he looks sooo good. and fort in that wetsuit ho my god... so many good visuals here. also i know i read the novel, but i was still completely unprepared for the tongrak attempted seduction scene... i knew it would happen but i wasn't ready to see it with my eyeballs!!! that was WAY more skin than i expected. earlier this week, peat was saying we'd get to see his thighs in ep 1. SIR, we saw much more than that!!! got me screaming at 10am. fortpeat are doing so well here. fort is in his element completely with mahasamut, and peat does vulnerability so so well. i'm excited to see them in more emotional scenes.

First attempt at making stands to prop up my Sasi Plushies!!

I used Logan as my test subject bc I thought he'd enjoy it... also bc he has the fewest accessories that might get in the way (I tried starting w Virgil but his hoodie was giving me immediate grief lol)

I was using some copper wire I picked up at random in the craftstore. My idea was that i could have something small and discreet so I could take pics/make photoset comics (is there a word for that?) with the Sides.

Pros: I do like how I can hook it directly under their arms for support, it's not too bulky, and I could potentially alter it if I want them at different angles or something. Cons: it was p tricky to mold the wire w/ just my hands so I might need a tool to make the bends look really clean, and the back stand is good, but a little big for my purposes. I'll have to experiment with the sizing to see if I can get something a bit more discreet that'll still support their big giant heads lmao

But a very promising start!!!

RIGHT off the bat, I wanna say this set's a mess and it was supposed to have more sketches in it (I REALLY wanted to draw LeFou fighting a dragon) but uhhhh .....*vague hand gestures* Emotional Issues. Will they come one day? Yeah probably. Until then...please enjoy what I managed to pull together.

First up, we got a test sketcj of Abanny as Maleficent, and a spooky-wooky headshot. Abanny was almost entirely inspired by Angelina Jolie in the live action Maleficent movie, so I could think of NO better role for her to play in this AU than the one she was made for.

Nicole was supposed to be raised by Abanny as well as her two fathers in a sort of big joint adoption found family thing. But they couldn't really get past Abanny's whole Matriarchal forest demigod who eats people thing as something they wanted their daughter around. So they kind of...booted Abanny from the group chat, let's say. Abanny's fury at being banned from having a part in her daughter's life MIGHT'VE been understandable....until Abanny decided ''Fine if I can't be a part of her life then she can't be a part of anyone else's'' and doomed her daughter to a sinister prophecy out of anger. That's the fun thing about Abanny. I can imagine her doing horrible destructive stuff to Nicole out of spite and it's not even that out of character (Any Incredibles AU fans in the audience?)

Yeah HI if this one looks funky dunky it's because it isssss *checks dates* JUST about a year old now!! This was the first Sleeping Beauty AU sketch and it has seen everything (Fnaf reference) and then I just kept thinking about this concept and that's where the rest of this stuff came from. I MEANT to rewdraw this one but uhhhh .....*vague hand gestures* Emotional Issues.

LeFou's horse is named Pompeii btw!!!! She's been a character of mine for a while, but I haven't REALLY used her for much since about 2015. Figured she deserved to be re-homed for this AU. If she looks familiar it's because yes I came up with her after watching Frozen.

Been taking pics of Neon too! Right now I'm working on lighting and getting use to shadows highlights etc. I put a red/pink light on here which looks pretty good with the background. Tweaked the time of day as well. More so a "test" shot than a photoset but I'm very happy with it

Hi! So if I wanted to update a theme of mine with the help of your base code is that possible? Would I just change the photo set div to the one you created and add your script? Or is that not workable

Hi! That's not quite how that theme works if I'm understanding your question correctly. NPF photosets will not use the same divs as legacy ones, so copying only that section won't necessarily make it work. The script should be able to work without having to use the entire base, though! You just need to make sure the selectors match up with the ones used in the script. I've tested this on a few existing themes already (and was even able to restore a super old grid theme that hid captions for photo posts). Which reminds me. I want to modify the script a bit to make it more universal for those who only want to use the script vs the entire base code. So if you're not comfortable doing that yourself, I should have something put together within a day or two!

On the first couple of rats, most of my hand-sewing was just a loose running stitch, because I was thinking of it as basting for the sewing machine.

But the pieces are just too small and slippery! Even with a walking foot. So I started going backwards over my basting with a second running stitch, and then going over it with the machine. At which point I realized I was just making more work for myself by sewing every seam three times.

I finally switched to backstitching towards the end of the last rat, and that's my plan going forward.

On this latest rat, I'm backstitching with two strands of doubled over thread, so four strands total. This should give it the reinforced seams I wanted from the sewing machine, while allowing me to just hand-stitch the whole thing.

It's also giving me much cleaner lines.

This seam along the back actually gave me the least trouble with the machine on the previous rats, I think because these are the two biggest pieces. But that also made it the best seam for testing the structural integrity of my backstitching.

Sometime soon I'll post a photoset showing how I attach the tail :)

31/12/2022-Denny Wood in the New Forest and home and three key photos from this year

On New Year’s Eve it was nice to spend some time at Denny Wood getting pleasant intimate views of birds like Marsh Tit, Coal Tit, Blue Tit, Great Tit, charming male Chaffinch, Robin, Blackbird and pleasingly a Pied Wagtail on the ground at the car park which I took the third picture in this photoset of with the other birds feeding on posts. It was great to feed them once more. It was nice to see a Grey Squirrel there too. On the rest of the walk some Redwings I believe and New Forest Ponies which I saw well on the way there too was nice. On a walk round some leaves, mushrooms gushing wet scenes in the woods and a large bit of water beside the wood shining like a silver beacon on the murky mostly wet day was nice to see I took the second picture in this photoset of this. I enjoyed seeing some gorse in yellow flower and coloured leaves on the way with Carrion Crow on a bridge by Lower Test seen well too and at home today Collared Dove on the roof of next door’s garden furniture which the first picture I took today in this photoset shows, some dazzling Goldfinches on the balcony and spiders in the hallway tonight were lovely sights. Mistletoe by Bolton’s Bench at Lyndhurst on the way back and elsewhere on the way was nice to see too as was nice shapes in the bare trees out the front tonight.

I can’t believe this is my last post of the year already, thank you for all your interaction and support over what has been another incredible wildlife and photography year for me. As I didn’t take many pictures today I thought I would add three of my favourite pictures to take this year to the photoset which have all been featured in my end of year photo tweets on Dans_Pictures over the last month; bees on woolly thistle at Shipton Bellinger in August, one of my favourite birds the Pochard at RSPB Radipole Lake in April and the sun setting over waters around Skomer Island the same month during a ‘Seabird Spectacular’ boat trip in our big Pembrokeshire holiday. Happy New Year all!

Hi, sorry if this has been answered, but I am trying to get a custom cursor hover to work with photoset posts in your Stereo theme. Some of them work (I assume from pre-npf?), and some don't. I've tried using the inspect tool and it didn't work out for me, so I am hoping that you would know how to make them work! Thanks for making this great theme and for the help (in advance)!

Hi! It's hard to say what you're missing without seeing it. But legacy photosets and images in the new post type do have different classes / a different structure so you're likely missing an additional class / identifier (I forgot the term).

Just testing with two photosets I had on hand, one legacy and one NPF, this worked:

For anything more, I'd need to have a link to your blog where it's not working.

May 25 - did more laundry. Cleaned basement bathroom. Got myself off to a walk-in clinic to have a doctor take a look at my messed up right foot, and will be going to a testing lab tomorrow for x-rays and blood work.

Also the first day in weeks where I had enough free time (and unstressed enough brain) to sit down and game in anything more complex than Flight Rising or Dorfromantik. Photosets of things from No Man's Sky should resume in the very near future.

Nephew and I did a fend night since we each needed to be eating at different times; I had leftover chili and rice on cheese toast, with tea and a muffin a bit before I had to start fasting for the blood work.

Fixed some accessibility issues on the logged out landing page.

“More like this” posts in blog view now use your chosen palette’s color for the “Follow” button instead of the blog’s accent color. We also added some padding above the post.

Photosets created in the new post editor can now handle images with different aspect ratios. The row height is based on the smallest image in the row.
