I started giffing in 2018, then took a break in 2019 until the beginning of this year and since then I've learned so much. I love trying out tutorials and learn new ways to edit stuff and it was such a great feeling to see my progress and that at some point, I developed my own preferences and habits that shape my own style now. I try to stay realistic and natural but still vibrant in colour. I love those edits with different colors or even unrealistic colors I see on my dash, but I can't bring myself to do it myself. It always looks wrong 😅

And since I was a bit uncreative with scenes I wanted to edit, I just chose some for my tropes collections. Forehead kisses - my beloved (Part2/?)!

DL characters from most to least intelligent?

// Oh, this is going to be interesting!

Disclaimer: This top incorporates intelligence as in brain power, perceptiveness and so on. It also has nothing to do with morals or the DL Tokutens, since those are just for fun and not the most accurate version of the characters, therefore it’s based on routes, serious CD dramas and official short stories.

1. Laito

It's no longer a secret that Laito is extremely intelligent to the point of being terrifying. I've already discussed his big brain in this post, but I'll try to summarize it here. This man can read everyone like a book; he can easily absorb and apply any type of information. He's also the only character who can manipulate everyone, including the AB boys, and even Carla was surprised by his intelligence in Dark Fate. I've said it before and I'll say it again: he could twist every DL main cast character around his finger if he wanted to, too bad he’s not good at reading himself.

2. Carla

Literally the Diaboy who would make the best king. Despite the fact that I can't bring myself to ship him with Yui because the couple is far too disturbing, he is a wise and great ruler. We were able to see that best in LE, he's good at plans, logical, and knowledgeable on a variety of topics that can help him get out of uncomfortable situations.

3. Shu

Shu may have many flaws, but he is undeniably intelligent. He appears apathetic, as if he doesn't care about anything, but he knows far more than you'd think. I believe he is the best candidate for king among the Sakamakis because he is open-minded and can reflect on his thought process.

4. Kino

Probably a very unpopular opinion since people don’t really seem to like Kino and yeah, he seems kind of dumb at times, but I'll give him credit for being a really good antagonist. He beat the Tsukinamis on this one; this guy is really good at devising different evil plans in order to sabotage the Diaboys, which I find really interesting.

5. Reiji, Ruki

The boys who like belittling others, despite being more on the booksmart side. They're very knowledgeable for sure, they both have a lot of information in their heads, and they're also more strategic than their brothers. In a nutshell, their intelligence is beneficial. However, because of their overconfidence, they are prone to reacting incorrectly when things do not go their way, which can lead to serious breakdowns.

6. Azusa

Azusa is most likely the character who speaks the least; he is timid and silent, but isn't it true that quiet people have the loudest minds? He pays close attention to everything that goes on around him, and I firmly believe that he is one of the best characters at seeing through people.

7. Kou

Another unpopular opinion since people like to portray Kou as a dumb guy, but that’s not the case. Sure, he doesn’t care about many things and doesn’t always pay attention to what others are saying but that’s because he simply doesn’t want to. I know Kou acts occasionally childish but he has a very mature point of view. Even if his magical eye allows him to read people’s hearts, he must be very cunning to know how to manipulate everyone based on this without coming across as obvious. Additionally, he has an unpredictable nature.

8. Ayato, Yui

Mr. “I’m impulsive and don’t care about others’ opinions” and Little Miss “I act without thinking and have to face consequences afterwards”. Not counting the fact that Yui has more morals and knows more about human stuff (since she’s human after all), they both have the same number of brain cells. Both canonically have little knowledge, they require help most of the time when doing something, and their plans are literally dead ends, BUT I can't deny they're very perceptive at times. I wrote more about Ayato here; he appears ignorant but notices important details and analyzes the behavior of those around him. The same can be said for Yui, who can also be a good observer.

9. Shin

He has more knowledge than Ayato and Yui and was quite clever in Ruki's DF route, but SORRY his LE route made him appear so stupid in my eyes. All of his problems could have been solved if he had tried to use his brain, but he didn't, which is why his route was so frustrating. Don’t get me wrong, I understand that every character has dumb moments, some more, others less, but come on... he didn’t try to logically solve his problems and only suddenly had the big realization to do so, which was IN HIS VAMPIRE ENDING. I excuse characters who make mistakes or act on a whim, but Shin crossed the line in LE. I can't imagine a Diaboy in his own route as dense as Shin was there; he kept getting himself into more and more trash, which is a shame because he would have been much higher on this list if they didn’t do him so dirty there.

10. Subaru, Yuma, Kanato

I feel bad for rating them so low because I really like Subaru and Yuma; Kanato is intriguing too, but the problem is that they almost never get the chance to prove themselves. I understand Subaru's situation because he doesn't have any deep bonds with anyone, after all, he's the only Sakamaki without a brother from the same mother, and he's also quite asocial, so it's not like he'd pay attention to anything that's not his business, but I really don't get why the others didn’t get a big chance to use their brains. Yuma is very useful though, but Kanato's case is a whole other story. I can’t deny that he’s actually sly sometimes but he was Laito's closest brother during childhood; why is Ayato the one to best analyze Laito and not him?? Ayato was literally locked away in his room all day, unlike him, who played with Laito on a daily basis… so much lost potential.

Balancing real-life stuff so I couldn't do this over the weekend. So tonight here are my thoughts on Detective Comics #1087 (all of it, main story and side).

Cass's appearance in the main story is brief but still has a great weight around it. There's just something I love of Ram V where every small moment still has overtones to everything that's gone on in his run.

Every side character on this quest Batman has been through gets to shine. It hits me with utter 😄seeing the payoffs occurring in this run that have been built here or throughout other stories. These payoffs are just SOOO good and these aren't even the "end" ones.

For Cass, it's being her and just not giving up. STILL fighting, still honoring the bat symbol, and the legacy of the Batman. Aka reasons why we love this character 101.

That extra added, "Oh they boned and know it." just by the added panel of Cass's eyes narrowing. SOOOOOO good I was little squeeing in gittiness at it. Something that's consistently happening since 2020. 😊

Likewise, you can feel that "ending" coming as Batman readies his schemes, the Orghams entering their's, Gotham too, and of course the twist we all saw coming given last issue with one other party throwing their hand too.

I'm really curious to where this all goes from here on out, and honestly I feel like a broken record but I cannot wait to see the payoffs. Like I know and feel these are all gonna be earned.

Oh sure, we might get a reset on some (Two-Face and Mr. Freeze), but man; Ram V's characterizations of both are leaving an impression on me. Something for me to continue spouting top of my lungs, "This is kino and enjoy the ride." to anyone who hasn't picked it up.

The art by Christian Duce and Stefano Raffaele is just 🔥 with the coloring by Luis Guerrero just stunning too. DC since 2020 has been killing it with the colorists they've got sprinkled throughout their books. Just makes everything the artists draw pop more.

What else can I say of the main story? Other than it just keeps delivering every month. But hey we're getting more kino with Ram V with the New Gods. That's gonna be great and curious to see where he goes with that.

The secondary story is something I've been hoping to see since the character showed up in this run, and that was some Jean-Paul Valley goodness, and not only do we get this here.

We get Dan Watters back on writing him. Oh sure, he couldn't get Nikola back, but hey Francesco Francavilla on it? Oooooh sign me up! Seeing his Cass was a delight at long last.

The story itself is just rooted in SOOO much back lore with Dick and Jean-Paul. You can take it as the perfect case to their history with one another (and it isn't pretty). I'm kind of glad we got this in the story to show this wasn't forgotten.

That this isn't just a united heirs to Bruce working together. There's still some stuff there from past that causes spite and mistrust (aka KnightsEnd).

In that regard, Dick is right to be this way. He's given Jean-Paul multiple passes and well every time Jean-Paul fell back to the conditioning he went through.

But again, Cass being Cass. Her coda is stone. "You can change. You can." Even when she was at the brunt of it too, she still that beacon holding for that hope this is the time Jean-Paul defeats his inner demons for good.

Again, it's a nice balance between the three characters. An actual reason Dick would be no trusting, and Cass being, "TRUST HIM." Given all she's been with Jean-Paul due to No Man's Land. I wasn't expecting this to be remembered on my 2024 comic bingo card.

That's something I wish someone would dig further into. That Cass could be that rock for Jean-Paul, kind of like how Steph is for Jason currently. Or Oynx was for Cass (kind of hoping that this is revisited on when she arrives in BoP) or currently Cass bonding hard with Barda.

Again, layers upon layers here. Why I enjoy this run currently for all of this.

Detective Comics #1087 continues the ride and makes me appreciate this run even more. Like, again this feels different to me. To have Cass entwined to a modern Batman epic?

Oh sure she has sprinkles in Batman runs or past Tec runs. But here? Not just the fan service appearance but characterization and history.

All the reasons why people love this character are all here. Leaving me ☺️🥺every single time I read an issue of this run. I can't wait to have the whole thing collected and just read it all.

CHAPTER 64 SPOILERS AAAAAAAAAAAA !!!!

Time to ramble because holy Fucking KINO. This entire build-up is fucking KILLING me!!! Having Baba Yaga explained in both Gehenna and Earth at the same time was a really good decision (thank you for letting me see my snake wife also), and overall just really hype.

I'm glad we got to see DLs interacting; the demon side had been missing some characterization in that aspect. But also where the fuck is Mammon? Is he being excluded for being a dunce or something? Or did Tachibana finally manage to summon him back to Earth? Probably the latter, but god, it'd be so fucking funny if Satan just didn't invite him.

Satan seems to actually be on top of the hierarchy down there, given that Asmodeus and Beel fear him to an extent. I was maybe thinking they stood on somewhat equal ground since Beel threatened to rip him apart some chapters back, but I guess not.

And this marks the second time he's shown any type of wrathful behavior, despite his own title. (That's so moe)

Satan uses 御前 which WHEWWWWWW. Okay. It basically means presence, as in an important person's presence. So this fucking guy is saying "You're in my presence". I think it also meant to be in the presence of a god, but I don't think that's what the author was aiming for. (Though it'd be interesting if that was it).

He uses 憤怒 (wrath) to refer to himself again, like he did in chapter 51, iirc.

Anyway, on another topic, really interesting to see that Mr. Priest has been upgraded(?) from Priest-kun to Priest-san in Asmodeus' eyes.

Maybe she now considers him an adult since (waves hands around) that. That chapter was named "Childhood's End", after all.

Beelzebub, on the other hand, straight up calls her 淫売 (prostitute). Fucking hell man.

Also, I mentioned it briefly on my Twitter, but because of Asmodeus now every single one of his enemies knows Priest-kun jerked it!! Everyone!!!! No!!! Now everyone fucking knows!! ;_; I really hope it doesn't come up again with some future antagonist because that'd be devastating for him lol.

I'm not sure where the immortal part came from here, but the raws say "髑髏の明かりに火を灯し" which basically is "Light the fire in the skull's light" or whatever.

髑髏, according to jisho and goo.ne.jp, refers to a weathered skull (which is on brand with the chapter). Nooo idea where immortal part came from.

Eternal dole, however, I'm sure is a reference to the third canto of Dante's Inferno. It is used to refer to Hell (I think). In the raws, only "that door" is used to refer to the gates of Hell.

Translator’s note: I have been curious about this set of drama CDs ever since I saw the title. It just sounds so surreal, but everything can happen in the world of DL Tokuten CDs lol. That being said, for some reason the possibility of a fishing competition never even crossed my mind. This trio definitely is something I want to see more of though. Laito and Kino being trolls while Yuma is the only serious guy just makes for some a really funny dynamic. I’m definitely curious to find out what will go down in part two of this CD!

Laito: …Pwaah~ There’s nothing to do. Even though I woke up early, I should have probably waited to leave the house until after sunset. I figured that hitting up town at an earlier time of the day might allow me to run into a different kind of woman, but I guess it’s not that easy. Haah-aahー I suppose I’ll kill some time at a random store until the night falls. …Wait, huh?

Laito comes to a halt. 

Laito: ‘...Goldfish Paradise’? Has this bright pink entrance sign always been here? Hmー But this name…I feel like it could lead to an encounter with a youthful, feisty (1) girl! Let’s take a look inside!

He enters the store. 

Laito: …Eh!? What’s up with this place!? There’s just one, dirty-looking pond in the very back of the shop…!? How am I supposed to enjoy myself here!? 

Yuma walks up to him. 

Yuma: …Haah!? I was wonderin’ who could have hit up this store, but if it isn’t Mr. Fedora from the Sakamaki’s… I didn’t think a bean sprout like yerself would have the guts to take part in this competition. 

Laito: Hah? Competition? 

Yuma: Yeah! This is the venue for the 10th edition of the Goldfish Fishing Competition!

Laito: I didn’t know that! I only came in hopes of running into a feisty young lady!

Yuma: Sorry to burst yer bubble mate, but the only people you’ll find here are a bunch of old geezers participatin’ in the competition. 

Laito: Haah!? Excuse me!? Hmー It kind of feels like I got scammed…

Yuma: Anyway, if you’re just gonna stand there and do nothin’, then just go home already. The less rivals, the better for me. 

Laito: So, how come you’re taking part of this competition? 

Yuma: Ya see, while it may sound like a pretty borin’ competition, the prize money’s nothin’ to scoff at. I want to use that money to buy myself a new mini tractor!

Laito: Haah!? A tractor? Could you think of anything less attractive? I’m sure there’s more exciting ways to invest your money!

Yuma: Ah…? But with a tractor, a whole new world of possibilities will open up for me!

*Rustle* 

Kino: …Excuse me. Could the two of you quiet down a little? 

Yuma: …Ahー ‘m bad. …Wait… You’reーー!? Kino!? What are you doin’ over here spread out underneath a beach parasol? You’ve gotta be kiddin’ me!

Kino: Hah? That’s none of your business is it? 

Yuma: Listen. People are here to fight it out. It’s not some place to fool ‘round! Anywayーー Don’t tell me ya wandered in here by mistake as well? 

Kino: I didn’t. I only came here because someone told me there was a gaming competition being held. While analog games are outside my area of expertise, I don’t really care as long as I can claim the prize money so I do plan on participating. I’ve filled out all the necessary forms as well so there’s nothing you can complain about, is there? 

Yuma: Che…Well, I guess I can’t give ya crap if you’ve properly registered. 

Laito: Hmー Well, I’ve got nothing better to do, so I suppose I’ll participate as well. …Well then, Kino-kun, allow me to sit down next to you. 

*Rustle rustle* 

Kino: Aah…? There’s not enough space, so back off. 

Laito: Oh come on! I want to at least get a little taste of that ‘Paradise feel’. Come on, make some space. 

*Rustle rustle* 

Kino: Che…I ran into a duo of annoyances. I better win this thing real quick so I can go home, or else I’m going to end up stressed out. 

Yuma: …Ah? I’m obviously takin’ this win! If ya wanna go home that badly, then just drop out right now!

Kino: No way. I need the prize money to compensate for the 100 back-to-back gacha pulls I went for in my game, or else Yuuri will not let me live it down. 

Laito: Heeh…You’re quite the impulsive buyer, it seems? Then again, taking those kind of risks is all part of making the game more fun, isn’t it? 

Kino: Heehー You sound like someone who knows the real joy of life. 

Yuma: Haah…Somehow I ended up with some strange company. 

They can hear commotion in the background. 

Yuma: …Woah there, seems like we’re gonna start soon.

so much has already been said about saber's general quality or lack thereof that i guess i won't bother typing up a traditional post like that. rather what i've been thinking about most is just how similar saber ends up being to ghost.

which normally wouldn't be strange for 2 shows with the same head writer, but. of course mr fukuda was otherwise occupied for much of both of them so, regardless of any jokes i may have made about the situation in the past, it is honestly kind of crazy just how much they're both these like encapsulations of "the tropes & plot concepts that this one guy seems to like." guess that's a sign of very talented support writers. being able to fulfill someone else's vision in a way that feels... maybe not always coherent per se but authentic to them.

it also stands out to me bc obviously we all know a certain subset of the rider fanbase still considers kamen rider ghost to have been some sort of war crime against humanity, but i will frequently see this same type of fan go to bat for saber, call it kino and whatnot, and it's kind of fascinating. i feel like an anthropologist when i see & study such phenomena in the wild.

in 2016 a rider show that is twee & sentimental, about a kind hearted lead who often gives cornball speeches being dragged into circumstances ft. a supernatural otherworld, with strong individual stories for its secondary & tertiary riders but pretty weak & meandering overarching plots and central villains, is dubbed by some to be an unrivaled catastrophe that they rage against to this very day. but a mere 5 years later the exact same sort of show airs and is then upheld by many of the very same people as the only good reiwa. the only one that makes you feel anything. the only one that isn't soulless.

so much can change so quickly in the status of this franchise, that what was beloathed can become celebrated in what feels like a blink. a real "you don't know what you got til it's gone" situation. personally i appreciate saber for that, too. like one last remnant of heisei that snuck its way into this new era. i would be hard pressed to call it an amazing tv show but i do agree with those opinions i've studied on some level. it really is the only one to make me feel anything.
