I just love the miscommunication circumstances with Damian and the Batfam -NOT bc he grew up in a cult- but bc he grew up in wide range of cultures that did not include the USA.
Like when he first joined the family, he refused to eat any of Alfred's cooking because it was "poisioned". In factuality it tasted bad to him because it was bland and English but since he had probably not cooked before damian could not articulate that it was just not spicy. Instead because it tasted weird he decided that it was poisoned and it went as well as one can expect.
It wasn't until he watched Alfred make it that he released it was just unseasoned and most defintely not poisoned, it was in fact so lacking of powers that Damain concluded that there is no way he could be poisoned accidentally even.
Just like stuff like that. Please give me multicultural shenanigans that confused the hell out of everyone.
#damain wayne#i have so many thoughts#batfam#batman#arab damian wayne#He is not white#Please don't make him white#multicultural#culture shock#Cultures interacting#I would say dick is also in the multicultural club but he pretty much grew up in Gotham#He still gets it easier than most regardless#Bruce totally forgets that Damian doesn't know what the Easter bunny is

Why does Rio speak Spanish?
So here’s a thought for everyone. I thought the Spanish from Rio was a cool nod to the origins of death as a personified thing.
One of the earliest personifications of death is Mexican, coming from the Aztec Goddess whose name was literally Lady of Death, or Lady Death. There is also Mayan mythology on death personified which would take the idea of Rio way back to BCE.
But then… doesn’t that mean that Rio would speak occasionally in her native language, not the language brought by colonisers but the original Mayan?
We don’t have enough understanding of the original Mayan language but it’s branched into multiple languages. I have read that Ch’orti is believed the closest, so wouldn’t it have been really cool if that’s the language that Rio randomly adds into conversation?
Her name is also Spanish which feels a bit odd in hindsight. I’m no expert in mesoamerican history so I might be wrong on some of the research I’ve done. I’m currently making a little comic thingy (which is taking longer than first planned) and I will have Rio speaking Ch’orti in it but if someone speaks ch’orti I’d LOVE the proper translation, and if anyone can give any more insight into if Ch’orti is the closest language to ancient Mayan then that would also be awesome

‘can’t believe’ scroll has an interview with a biographer of Hedgewar where he seriously tries to claim that such a referring to such a pivotal figure of the RSS as ‘an ultra Hindu, a hater of minorities’ is ‘patently false’, while explaining why with this:

Jesus Christ absolutely no one knows what fascism is; what next, it was a Brahmin’s idea to burn the Manusmriti and Savarkar assented, so…(oh wait they’ve been saying that one for years). Wretched wretched
(you could quite literally say exactly all this about Gandhi, or almost any major savarna figure of the early 20th century)

I don't speak Portuguese, but one time I was listening to a gamer's stream, Cellbit, in Portuguese at midnight while working on a project about strokes for my anatomy class
I got so focused that I forgot it was on, and when I started hearing it again my sleep deprived mind FLIPPED OUT for a good 10 seconds because it sounded like gibberish and I thought it was English.
I thought I was having a stroke, genuinely ㅠㅠ
#my dumbass thought Portuguese was English and couldn't understand it so I thought I was having a stroke omg#Scariest 10 seconds of my life#I was so scared my heart was pounding#I love qsmp it's so multilingual and multicultural if you like languages you should watch it#I have listened to so many Forever and Cellbit streams since this that I can understand a decent amount of Portuguese now yay!#multilingual#language#cellbit#qsmp#qsmp cellbit#bilingual#portuguese#brazil#brazilian portuguese#I love cellbit#I love qsmp#how many tags can i add#languages#language stuff#my posts#minecraft

hc + pale sands
HEADCANON + WORD — Pale Sands.
Pale Sands is a self-sufficient enclave despite its lack of trees and location within the desert. Its proximity to the ocean and soil-based fertility due to sharing space with a dormant volcano means that people don't generally sleep on empty stomachs. Kagetsu commonly talks about food like sashimi, dango, and rice across his supports + exploration lines which doesn't just speak to his preferences, but his ability to do so. Struggle isn't absent but it is absent more often than not.
Saltwater fish and onigiri are Pale Sands staples. Nori is not hard to come by. Because Pale Sands has a noted sparsity of wood but makes use of scrolls, the scrolls in question are made from papyrus plants and animalskin.
"Pale Sands has one volcano, but it lies dormant. I have never seen the fearsome flow of lava." (Kagetsu, at map: Lava Fields)
"Bonfires are very much fun! Wood was scarce in my homeland, so we burned leaves instead." (Kagetsu, Somniel: campfire)
In another regards to struggle, Kagetsu doesn't once express concern over the propagation of Corrupted throughout Pale Sands. Even Timerra does this in regards to Solm, the most isolated kingdom of the Elyos four. Pale Sands is just that secluded from the rest of the world; an island within an island, and for good reason, when a mountain range serves as natural insulation from threats.
Simultaneously, this isn't to say that Pale Sands people are defenseless; with honor above victory being a notable Pales Sands tenet, they are a cultured warrior people. Brodians but if Brodians were sticklers on the right and wrong way to win a duel. Them being pedantic warriors in conjunction with Kagetsu's flower-based name makes me wonder if the proximity to Elusia has anything to do with their beliefs, like cultural runoff, but that's a wormhole theory to go into at another time.
As if Kagetsu (Pale Sands prince + Solm extroversion + Elusian knighthood) wasn't already a cultural Frankenstein
#☾ ✿ ☽ ━━━ 「 ask 」 。#☾ ✿ ☽ ━━━ 「 headcanon 」 。#twistedisciple#this is way more like an interconnected headcanon batch as opposed to being just one#that's what happens when one idea you lay down leads to another and another....too much food for thought.....#broad brushstrokes for this topic so i can delve into it deeper at another time :3c tanks for sending ree#very crazy about kagetsu's multiculturalism btw even just between pale sands solm and elusia....that's mr WORLDWIDE

i feel like i could write an essay about why i’d never want to live in a house again. weird how i don’t feel safe in an essentially soundproofed building with the only people around, supposed friendly neighbors, wanting to keep to themselves because it’s difficult to deal with things like dv or “private family issues,” that stuff you’re on your own for
not to mention prices, gentrification and white washing, inaccessibility of the house itself or suburban mazes, quality of new construction, cost (and again, quality) of renovation, potential HOAs, legally required maintenance, zoning laws, lack of creative/innovative architecture, etc
so much of what suburbs are are upheld by pillars of white supremacy

#i have no idea how to respond to the whole qsmp situation right now#i mean. i dont watch it or interact with qsmp ITSELF#only the fans around it#I have made fanart for it but not really because i have any particular attachment to specific characters but just because#its a very good springboard for character design and inspiration#Im very involved with the fanbase though as the QSMPnews discord is one of my main discords#and I mainly use the fandom space as a way of practicing/getting into foreign languages#although i dont watch qsmp it still has impacted my life massively in the last year#this clusterfuck of project management is difficult to unravel and know what to do with#and its difficult to know exactly where to turn your attention#or who to blame#since theres so many levels of miscommunication that hasnt been helped by the sharing of it online#i think. even if QSMP doesn't survive#it would be ludicrous to state it as an inherently harmful server#since there has been an evident change in the minecraft gaming space because of it in multiculturalism.#heck IM direct proof of that as someone who does not reguarly engage with the server itself via streams#the fact that as a result of a 21 year old kid deciding to start a sever I can end up with a group of spanish speakers trying to explain#various concepts to me in my language while i respond in theirs is. insane#so do i think that the qsmp will survive?#um. look i dont see how it can.#I've never thought that it could#but i dont think that im going to demonise fans or avoid content relating to it#considering how integral the fanspaces around it are to me and my personal quest for language proficiency#however I will attempt to keep qsmp posts on my french/spanish blogs#well that was. long-winded#idk this is a very self-centred look into the qsmp and this whole situation#obviously I hope that the staff get paid but. I really have no idea where Quackity Studios might get that money from or how the#server should either end or continue

pretty sickening seeing the far-right jump on a tragic, isolated incident to push their divisive, bullshit agenda
#uk politics#wales#cymru#ammanford#literally how is your first thought upon hearing about a stabbing by a welsh school pupil ''how can we blame multiculturalism''#and not ''wow that's awful''#disgusting pieces of shit#stop pretending to care about a part of the country you've never even heard of#that you couldnt find on a map#and that you know nothing about

waiiiitt I just realized the reason why I love QSMP so much as a concept is because it's kind of like my childhood growing up overseas oh my goooodddddd what if i cried
#its in the bonding over multicultural experiences#in school everyone would be from somewhere different from all over the world#and we were only at this place for a few years so we just vibed together and our differences didnt matter#but then sometimes we'd just end up talking about where we lived before#and sharing these crazy things we'd had as american kids in other countries#and we'd also for one reason or another have local kids sometimes talk about their own experiences as locals coming to the american school#and it was cool too!!#but coming back to live in the usa has been pretty isolating as someone who grew up outside here and no one else has left their state area#but the qsmp community has been bringing that culture exchange back into my life!!#and it's SOOO amazing to see people learning about outside their world and be part of that culture exchange again#and no its not the same and im not saying its supposed to be!#i love it so much i love learning about the outside world and how humanity is so varied and so so special#thank you qsmp this silly minecraft server has brought back a part of my life i thought i left behind forever when my family moved back#now im actually practicing my german again and picking up on more basic spanish than i ever thought id get#and im getting reinspired to want to aim to go back overseas rather than stay in america for job oppertunities#i thought i was resolved to suffer here forever but theres still a world out there thats not perfect but if my place isnt here its okay!
