Sign-ups are open for MXTX Remix 2024 (@mxtxremix) right now and they close on February 9th. It's a gift exchange for people who already have MDZS, SVSSS, and TGCF fanworks, either art or fic. I participated in the MXTX Remix event back in 2021 and it was a lot of fun! I ended up turning someone else's Canon Divergence Liushen fic ("tangled in the hanging tree" by technorat) into a Star Wars / Space Opera AU version of itself, in which Shen Yuan was a symbiote attached to Shen Jiu and they bickered a lot.

I also received "demons don't write what they know" from atarah, which is a Demon Liu Mingyan / Human Sha Hualing fic, inspired by my own Moshang Human/Demon Role Reversal AU.

It's on a shorter time scale than a Big Bang event, so you don't have to make a commitment half-a-year or more in advance: assignments go out on February 13th and assignments are due March 29th. The minimum requirements are also much more manageable: a complete 1,000-word fic or a clean piece of lineart. I think it's potentially a fun entry point into fan events if you've already start creating art or fic for one of these fandoms and are personally interested into dipping your toes into gift exchanges.

There is the pressure of transforming someone else's work into a gift for them, but it can also be fun to play with another fan's stuff, using someone else's story as a structure rather than starting from scratch. Though definitely not for everyone, it can also be interesting to open up your own work to someone else's transformation, and see what about your art or writing speaks to someone else. Examples of previous MXTX Remix works (2021, 2022, 2023) can be found in their parent collection: MXTX Remix.

Oh, and he's still working as the Sandpiper, only now a terrifying eldritch creature has entrusted him with the Song of the Seven to give hope to the elves and help them fight back against their oppression. It's probably the bravest thing he's ever done, but not everyone sees it that way.

Luckily he knows some people who excel at last minute rescues.

Just another loop in the hangman's noose is the sequel to my 2021 MXTX big bang, I have lost the path before me (the one behind will lead me). (Yes, the one that I've been working on during our streams and sprints!) It's a Xicheng time travel AU, where JC goes back in time (with lots, lots of trauma), prevents the golden core transfer and becomes a demonic cultivator himself in WWX's place.

In this sequel, he finally uses his demonic cultivation and his foreknowledge in the Sunshot Campaign against the Wens, but things don't go exactly as planned and he has to come up with a new plan to get close to WRH and assassinate him :eyes emoji: Meanwhile LXC is going through a gay crisis, and an identity crisis, and many, many more crises... He's just really going through it.

After months of writing in pretty much secret, I am thrilled to present my HuaLian fic for the @mxtxbb, Farfalle di Carta!

This labor of love has fantastic artwork embedded within by sofinch_wxx on Twitter, which I will post separately in a few minutes. I was so honored to work with them and they even blessed me with an extra full colored piece as well as two sketches, all of which are embedded in the fic with the appropriate chapters.

As always, this baby would not have seen the light of day without the great beta skills and sound boarding with the lovely @subtlybrilliant , who is my muse and greatest inspiration in writing again. She helped me overcome many roadblocks and kept my pesky commas in order and for that I am eternally grateful. <3 I love you!

Summary

Xie Lian never judged a book’s contents by its cover. He had read plenty of good books over the years that had plain or uninteresting covers. Usually the title or summary compensated for the plain exterior and would be the reason Xie Lian pulled the book off of the shelf. Sometimes he’d take a book out of sheer curiosity, even if nothing drew his attention. Those were often the books where he would be pleasantly surprised. Underneath plain dust jackets could be hidden intricate gold leaf designs. Some may have folded maps in the back cover. Or, on rare occasions, Xie Lian would find the pages edged in gold, a feature that could not be seen until the book was pulled off the shelf to shimmer under the light.

One day while perusing the stacks at the library, he finds a book shelved apart from the others, as though peerless. The plain dust jacket was in taters, revealing the faded red cloth of the hardcover underneath.

And it was filled with paper butterflies.

OR a 90s nostalgia modern AU where Xie Lian randomly meets Hua Cheng over a poetry anthology and they fall in love (slowly) and get up to shenanigans with their friends.

the Jins, even as bad guys. I have plenty of the Jins and JGS being shitheads in other stories, I don't feel the need to surface that here as well.

much in the way of side pairings. There's some BSSR/Lan Yi in the prologue, Wei Wuxian's parents, and a bit of hinted-at Song Lan/Xiao Xingchen later on. But the fic really isn't going to focus on romance besides WangXian.

Since this work is a bit of a monster all being dropped at once: if you decide to read this fic, please occasionally take breaks to get water and maybe even sleep between some of these chapters!
