the second doctor and jamie have such a fascinating dynamic to me. i wouldnt say that its romantic, but its also not platonic either. i dont think either of them even know what theyre relationship is tbh. theyre just the doctor and jamie. i feel like zoes asked them on multiple occasions and theyve both just given weird, vague answers both to annoy her and because they dont actually have an answer, because theyve never needed one. theyre the doctor and jamie. what more do they need?

'as do i. we're watching it, right now'

Not this time.
This... isn't... happening!

Thinking about doing a chibnall era episode tournament when I have the time but I'm curious, what does everyone personally think is the best of 13s episodes? Or just what's your personal favourite?

and thus we finish s9. the doctor is now properly travelling elsewhere again (although that began in s8). I'm curious how this relationship with the timelords will continue, currently it is... fraught. and that makes sense, the timelords represent so much of what the doctor disagrees with, even before we get to the idea of exile, and while they technically send the doctor on "good" causes (?) it's at their whim
and interesting of course, because they exiled the doctor for meddling too much, but are obviously themselves confident in knowing when to step in (which, I mean is technically the point, but there is hubris in there.... *timewar looming in the distance* but I wonder if there will be stuff before then)
definitely firmly in the part of the show where three got his more actiony reputation, but overall I think it's still acceptable + the ratio of "doctor karate chops someone in the back" to "the doctor is Very Camp" is acceptable. also best action-moment was jo kneeling down behind someone so that they tripped over backwards and knocked themselves out, and then she proceeded to save the doctor
noticeable uptick in vfx and prosthetics this season (yay, look at that Budget), and of course the master continues to be a nuisance + slightly more hints at their pasts together. doctor who is such a fascinating universe, because post-classic (or even somewhat during classic) is so created by fans of what came before, many of whom wanted to fill in the gaps of what those stories missed in their opinions, and so I know there's novels exploring the doctor's and the master's past, and I will read them, but for now it's fun to be teased, knowing that presumably there was no real thought to fleshing out those teasers at the time
jo grant is kind of great. she's very much in the "student" realm of doctor companions (vs others who are more mature, like barbara or ian or liz shaw and/or more... potentially tension-filled, like jamie....) and I think overall that while yes, there is stuff like "this person is clearly also cast to look good and flutter their eyes and wear miniskirts," I think in many ways she's giving so much more than that, which is power to individual writers, to jon pertwee supporting, and of course katy manning, who is very cheeky and playful, so that some lines which could be incredibly sexist come off as her almost rolling her eyes at the assumption that characters might have (and on a meta sense of course) that she's just a silly, weak girl who doesn't know things and needs the doctor to hold her hand
overall a great season. and I believe the very first episode of s10 is... the three doctors!
