Rose's Day of Asks
So, what makes Sean/White so special?
Have a great Day💜
Everything and nothing all at once!
In all seriousness though, I love how well they work together. They fall into step so easily, especially when you remember that White barely knows Sean and Sean thinks White is Black, whom he hates. They find common ground so fast and are instantly playful with each other (even if there is definitely an edge to it all).
White is the most honest with Sean even as he’s lying to him. While he doesn’t admit he’s not Black until Sean confronts him, he never really lies to him in any other aspect. Somehow someway, White feels like he can be himself with Sean even though he knows he should. He doesn’t think about it, he just is. Sean is the same way. He finds himself being more open and honest with White without even realizing it. Something he would never do with Gram or Yok and certainly not with Black. Not even with Gumpa, whom he seems the closest to at the of the story.
To be cliche, they were made for each other. They compliment each other, they work well together. White tempers Sean’s rage and shortsightedness while Sean forces White to be even braver and more daring even then he already is by pretending to be Black.
White comes in like a freight train, pretending to be Black but ends up being more himself than he ever has been before. He helps finally crack Sean open and brings them all together, closer than they were before, in a way Black could inspire. At the beginning of the story, Sean knows the boys, but I hesitate to call them all actual friends. By the end, they feel like friends, like a family and it’s because of White.
The two make each other more complete then they were before. They each force the other to open up and mature and grow.
…I just love them so much okay!?

Now that I’ve officially read 50 books this year I want to list some of my top ones, because let’s face it, I love talking about books…
The goldfinch (Donna Tartt) - Theodore Decker was 13 years old when his mother was killed in a bombing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The tragedy changes the course of his life, sending him on a stirring odyssey of grief and guilt, reinvention and redemption, and even love. Through it all, he holds on to one tangible piece of hope from that terrible day -- a painting of a tiny bird chained to its perch. // This one isn’t a surprise, with all I talk about it’s a little obvious I’m obsessed. This book really takes masterpiece to a new level, with it so intricately thought out, with the characters feeling almost real. It’s a book that will stick with me forever.
The secret history (Donna Tartt) - Under the influence of their charismatic classics professor, a group of clever, eccentric misfits at an elite New England college discover a way of thinking and living that is a world away from the humdrum existence of their contemporaries. But when they go beyond the boundaries of morality, their lives are changed profoundly and for ever. // Can you tell I like Donna Tartt?? Because fucking hell, I do. If you’re looking for a book to fall in love with - this is the one.
This Is How You Lose A Time War (Max Gladstone, Amal El-Mohtar) - Thus begins an unlikely correspondence between two rival agents hellbent on securing the best possible future for their warring factions. Now, what began as a taunt, a battlefield boast, grows into something more. Something epic. Something romantic. Something that could change the past and the future. // Did I know what was going on in this book? No. But I loved it. Now, it’s a confusing book, we can all agree on that, but it’s so well written, you feel compelled to read more.
Tender is the Flesh (Agustina Bazterrica) : Working at the local processing plant, Marcos is in the business of slaughtering humans--though no one calls them that anymore. // Looking for the most fucked up book you’ll ever read?? Well here you go, nothing says fucked up like graphic descriptions of cannibalism and human being treated like cattle. But, I think I like this book for how messed up it was - it’s the sort of book that stays with you.
Heaven (Mieko Kawakami) : In Heaven, a fourteen-year old boy is tormented for having a lazy eye. Instead of resisting, he chooses to suffer in silence. The only person who understands what he is going through is a female classmate, Kojima, who experiences similar treatment at the hands of her bullies. Providing each other with immeasurable consolation at a time in their lives when they need it most, the two young friends grow closer than ever. But what, ultimately, is the nature of a friendship when your shared bond is terror? // This is another one of those books I’m not going to forget any time soon. It just pulled emotions from me like it was easy and I’ll be forever in awe at how this book has my very soul.
If there’s anything we should take from this, it’s that I like messed up books. And you know what, I’m fine with that

tam and linh being the opposite of what their outward persona is inside (tam: angsty/surly->an absolute sweetheart; linh: absolute sweetheart-> pessimist?/trying her best) anyways so sophie introduces them into human music (bc they’re yk, Songs) and she expects Tam to like the heavy metal, but no, it’s linh! bc it’s a way to express what she feels/hears on the inside w the constant sound of the water just, screaming at her, and her wanting to scream back but -t1sb (pt1)
(pt2) she cant scream back bc she has to be sweet and calm and quiet or everyone else would be right ab her just being a violent Hydrokinetic who only knows the destruction of water, but she can scream they the harsh lyrics and it brings her a freedom she’s longed for. and then Tam mildly enjoys punk rock, but mainly the soft sweet songs, or the quiet sad songs where he can just sit and reflect and relate and be at peace and relax -t1sb
Oh I love every part of this! Characters who subvert your expectations of who they are and turn out to be both in part what you expected but with quirks opposite how you think they'd behave are so much fun. Tam being so intense becomes his intense compassion, protective streak, and gentleness towards those he's let get close to him. Linh's open and kind nature becomes her motivation for talking back and fighting and levels of destruction no one else is capable of.
I think on top of the heavy metal being a kind of screaming that Linh can do without proving everyone right, without causing destruction by giving into the pull of the water, it could be a sort of distraction. When the water isn't pulling her to flood everything in anger but is just there and won't leave her alone and she's not getting upset over it but really doesn't want to have to fight against it, she turns the volume up and then the call of the water is drowned out by the screaming. She doesn't need to scream along then, just lets it overpower the call until she can't hear it anymore and doesn't have to fight against it.
It's both protection and release, a distraction and an outlet. When she screams the lyrics she's focusing on something entirely different than the commands the water is trying to give her, the ones she wants to give herself over to.
Then Tam!! When you said the quiet sad songs I just started nodding along because you're right! He's so angry and guarded all the time so why would he want to carry that over into his music? He needs a chance to relax, to unwind, to just let himself feel like and feel the quiet without having to put on a mask for anyone else. Because his persona is part of his defense, and he can let that down when listening to music because it's just him. it's quiet and gentle, two things he's missing in his life. And it's an acknowledgement of everything messed up that he's gone through, that it's okay to be sad about it and that's it's an appropriate reaction!
He's on guard like all the time but the soft songs? They're soothing, they help with his anxiety and his worries about everything. Bittersweet, downright sad, hopeful, anything goes. Just the soothing tone is what he's looking for.
These both fit with their characters so well! Absolutely splendid ideas for both of them I am now wondering what kinds of playlists they'd curate.

YES!! Absolutely! Everyone sleeps on them.
They are so funny.
Tumblr media
The way Kou is very judgemental of Akane is wonderful to me, he really just assumes shit about him?? He has a "my senpai is weirdo" view on Akane.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which makes sense considering the kind of talk Akane has with him off manga?? Like bro, please -
Tumblr media
But at the same time!!
Kou looks up to Akane, sees him as a dependable senpai, considering he was an option for guidance, putting him on the same panel as the brother he idolized and the supernatural whose power is knowledge, only stopped from asking for help because Akane was being crazy about Teru's bet.
Tumblr media
So on a normal day he would see this "weirdo upperclassman" as someone helpful.
Which leads me to how Kou called Akane when Teru locked himself. HE CRIED TO AKANE OF ALL PEOPLE FOR HELP.
Tumblr media
I also genuinely believe he thinks Akane is so cool! He got some awe going on considering how flustered he gets near him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honestly this mix of concerned cause he assumes Akane is a weirdo with insane tastes, and flustered cause he genuinely respects him/wants Akane to think he is cool, makes for a really funny dynamic.
Tumblr media
Bro really blasts Akane while simultaneously having a kind of admiration for him.
And Akane? Akane also judges him a lot.
Tumblr media
He looks down on Kou at times too, cause to be fair, Kou is very spaced out, and their world view does not align.
I will never forget the scene where Akane had to REMIND Kou that "Hey, your friend is dead. Get your priorities straight kid."
Tumblr media
But he likes his spunk too, he is inspired by his determination, he wants Kou to succeed. I'm glad Kou goes to him for help cause Akane does like him, if he can help, he will.
Tumblr media
He sucks at pep talks though, he comes off as very awkward when he tries to cheer him up.
Tumblr media
He also understands Kou extremely well despite barely interacting.
He only scowled Teru after the brothers fought because he ALREADY KNEW Kou would protect Hanako.
Tumblr media
Akane could also sense he has some kind of connection with Supernatural MItsuba, who I doubt Kou ever mentioned to him, he is always very silent about Mitsuba. So Akane must have noticed from body language alone?? My boy-
Tumblr media
He sees him as a good kid, so much so he goes "you sure you're related to Teru?"
Tumblr media
He also appreciates Kou's cooking skills.
Tumblr media
bonus: this wonderful panel

Let's talk about the clock keepers in the new chapter!!
Tumblr media
It's not a surprise to see that they had more in their sleeves, putting up an act to get all the information they wanted. Kako said it after all, he is the one observing. And he will gather what he needs before making a move, showing he deserves his title as the oldest supernatural. Hanako being the leader doesn’t seem to matter a lot to him in the end. He clearly has had his plan for a long time. It's not a shock to see he recognizes what came back with Tsukasa from the red house, probably knowing the entity from before.
Tumblr media
Even if it was an act and all of them knew what the end result would be. The reactions Akane and Mirai had for each other in the last chapter were real. Akane was never shield in the manga, being the one doing it most of the time. So his reaction towards Mirai taking the blow for him is absolutely genuine, especially when he tried so hard to make her run away. And we can see it again when we see how slowly he takes her out of the water to give her back to Kako. Akane even reprimands the old man about being slow and Mirai having to go through this at first.
Tumblr media
This chapter highlights the clock keepers relationship too. Akane has been before in the innermost reach, he clearly knows what he is doing here, entering the house like nothing and actually setting things up for tea knowing Kako would like it. Being considered as a whole clock keeper, Kako and Mirai trust him not to do anything bad even in their most vulnerable state.
Tumblr media
Kako watches over Mirai like a worried father, being happy when she is back and is still pushing Akane to find the answers himself, always in a teaching position. Akane is quick to scold Mirai about her actions, clearly seeing her more as a kid than a real supernatural being. He is seen worried for her and tells her right away not to do something like this ever again. On her side, Mirai is overjoyed to see Akane, the first question coming out of her mouth asking if he is hurt, and she seems rather shocked to see him being so worried about her, jumping on his head right away to praise him for being a nice boy.
Tumblr media
They are way more genuine in their physical contact and actions. Akane is not refusing Kako’s headpat even though he has an angry/solemn expression when accepting it, the old man is smiling at Mirai and Akane the whole chapter while Mirai is being her usual clingy self.
Tumblr media
Kako clearly has been observing things and waited until the right moment to take actions. They are coming back in time to fix things up, and will sleep until the new present is stable. And for this they trust the clock keeper of the present to take care of the duty that was placed upon him.
Akane is a wonderful pick for the present. His personality and way of life has always shown he was the only character who would be able to handle this role. He is a duty centered and really proactive boy, and most of all, sees how life is worth living. Even if he never feared the idea of getting hurt, we can clearly see how much he takes his role at heart. He now knows he has to live if the idea of a better present can exist.
Tumblr media
Kako knows Akane is able to handle all of it which is why they can leave without being worried about the new present, they absolutely believe Akane will be able to fulfill his duty. In the end, it’s Akane who keeps the yorishiro with him.  They trust him to make sure everything is in order and not die until he can use the key to get them out of the clock once they awaken. Kako’s last word to Akane is once again one with a teaching tone, praising him for a job he will do, showing he thinks he will handle it.
One of Kako’s strongest traits is observation too. And Akane is really good at that, he is one of the most observant and perceptive characters of the whole cast. His mission will be all about seeing if the events really changed, acting like a memory of a present which doesn’t exist anymore. Having a human among the clock keepers to have eyes in the human world seems also like a logical choice. To know the whole situation Kako needs eyes in the human realm too, and Akane shares his informations with him when he think it's important.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Akane has known his role for a long time. Once he heard that he had his duty to do, his expression is hard to see because he KNOWS what the implications are. He is aware of what it means, he isn’t happy with this, he clenches the yorishiro once he has it, he says he doesn’t have a choice to Teru. Because even if Akane complains, he does things he is asked to do.
Tumblr media
Akane’s sense of justice has always been a big part of his character, and it’s also a big part of the clock keepers. Of course he wants the present to be better and goes with the clock keepers’ idea, erasing a problem at its root to help the majority of people and protect the persons he cares for is something Akane would never refuse.
Tumblr media
He has no problem doing it even if he doesn’t want to be on the clock keepers’ side, because he knows he can do something ‘right’. He still trusts Kako on this one, embracing his role as the guardian of the present fully. The old man did say it would be good for humans after all.
Tumblr media
How long has Akane been thinking about changing the present? Even if it means erasing the severance I don’t know how he would react seeing that Aoi never lived it. Having a world where she never got to know supernaturals, never was left dead all alone on the far shore and never got her hand hurt. It can’t be so bad right?
Tumblr media
But the more I think about it the more I go ‘was this present really THAT bad?’ Aoi has to go through her horrible everyday life once again, thinking that no one will ever love her for who she is and Akane definitely doesn't want that.
His talk to Teru also implies that Teru and Nene may remember since they were stopped by his time power. He trusts Teru to understand what is happening and help him with this new reality or hoping not everything will have changed.
Tumblr media
If we focus quickly on Amane and Tsuchigomori. They seem to have go back in 1968 so Amane was a middle schooler. Tsuchigomori and him had the talk about the moon in 1969 (after the 20th of July) so Tsuchi may not have the same yorishiro either. Would Amane live this time? Not sure, the reason he was trying to destroy the big clock may be related to the clock keepers going back in Time. I wonder what the clock Amane was working on really represents.
Tumblr media
We can see this clock indicating the hour exactly like when Akane is stopping time, suggesting that it is really the one controlling the whole school time. It’s the first clock we see when the clock keepers are introduced too.
Tumblr media
If Kako and Mirai really go back in time and erase everything they are visualizing on this. It would indeed mean a better control over the mysteries situations and the protection of the Land.
It means everything the mysteries went through won't happen. So the second Mitsuba won't exist, n°3 would still be here, Yako would still be waiting for Misaki to come back and won't go berserk, Shijima-san would still be in her boundary thinking she has no reason to exist expect hurting Mei-chan's memory, Hakubo would still be doing his duty without feeling anything and Sumire would still be living her death over and over again, not having anyone go see her in more than a century.
Tumblr media
It means erasing all of the mysteries’ struggles and acceptance of what they are, not being bound by grief and regrets to do a job most of them didn't want to do. Would this present really be a good one? For the humans mostly it would be, it's the mysteries duties after all, and n°1 is ready to undo all the things each mystery went through to make sure humans have a good Present. They always have been more about humans than supernaturals. And this may also be the reason why Akane is okay with everything going on too. Kako sees this as his ultimate duty in the end, forcing all mysteries to embrace it even if they don't want to. Taking the matter at end without warning anyone since after all, no one will remember.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another thing that has always been interesting to me, was the fact that the clock keepers look nothing like something out of Japanese Myths/folklore. It has always been strange to me to see they were labeled as the oldest supernaturals, when clocks weren’t that common in Japan before a long time.  The way they dress look way different compared to anyone else from the cast too. The closest look you could find was from the Meiji Era, which was mostly about Japan importing a lot of Western culture into their Land. I always thought that the clock keepers just couldn’t be from a Japanese folktale and this was confirmed in the last chapter. I had my supposition about where they were from,  but having an actual image of their old town helped me to focus more on it.
Tumblr media
If we look at Clock making history we can easily focus on some countries, The Netherlands, Germany and England being the main ones. Now if we look at the architecture we get in this chapter, we can delete England from the list easily. This type of house is called Timbered framed houses. It can be found in Europe in different countries.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s important to note that the roofs on those houses are really really sharp on the illustration AidaIro gave us. Which means they were built for snow, so it can slide off the roofs more easily. The trees in the background are too blurry to see but it looks like forest of pines and the kids shown are holding one.
Now if I combine the two ideas of clock making and architecture I found here, my thoughts came to one city. Nuremberg in Germany. It’s a city known for its clock making history, there are mountains nearby and there is snow in this region during Winter. And more importantly The Nuremberg Egg.
Tumblr media
It’s known as the ancestor of the pocket watch, created in the XVIth century.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don’t think AidaIro was inspired by a precise place but I think somewhere in this region of Europe could be a good pick for the inspiration of the city the clock keepers are from! Same can be said about the clothes the kids are wearing and the toy's shop which have vibes from this region too.
Tumblr media
I’ve been thinking a bit more about what Kako and Mirai are really and it’s hard to say. With how Akane introduced them it could imply they were humans before.
Why did they move to Japan and how did they become supernatural? Were they created or were they humans before? The idea of Kako creating a body to survive and creating Mirai is not out of the way since he is clearly the oldest and more experienced supernatural there is. A lot of questions with no answers for now but I am happy we get some glimpse of their old life.
Tumblr media
I am also interested in the clock keeper of the present status too. Are they used to create different presents or if the present is fixed their role is finished? Did Kako and Mirai go back in time to change stuff before?
I don't think it happened recently. Nothing special has been happening at Kamome even with the whole Yugi suicide/murder history. The real problems started really once Nene met Hanako and Tsukasa woke up. Kako may have been observing things since a really long time, maybe putting some students as clock keepers of the present but never ‘activating’ their real role. Which may also be why Akane never was shown that stressed out about his role as a clock keeper, why would he be if all the previous clock keepers of the present never had to do this? What is supposed to happen to them once they have fulfilled their duty? Are they erased from the timeline to represent completely this new Present? Do they get to continue their life like nothing happens, being the only person having the memories of a world which doesn't exist anymore? How long do they stay alone until the other two wake up? Why insist so much on the idea he has to stay alive? So many questions I hope we will have answers on soon.
Tumblr media
The story of the clock keepers is still really blurry but we are slowly getting more on them . AidaIro really showed us that they were mysteries the other characters shouldn't mess with and I am all for it.

sometimes i think about how the acotar books could've been a great way to show that "love doesn't heal trauma" rather than whatever points sjm was trying to make about abusive relationships and sa. instead of tamlin being abusive, she could've written that feylin's individual traumas kept them from reaching out to each other. or that feyre felt suffocated by the perfect, idyllic and alive spring court when she felt the opposite on the inside. or that tamlin felt overwhelmed by the sudden influx of responsibilities as he's trying to rid himself of the nightmares from utm. they try to make it work. they try to replicate some of the dates and dances from book #1 but there's an almost tangible shadow over their relationship now. and maybe one day feyre sees a memorial for andras or a likeness to one of the high fae living in the spring court to one of the high fae she killed utm, and has a panic attack. and this serves as the catalyst that severs feylin's relationship and reveals that yes, their love broke a curse, their love saved prythian but it couldn't (and shouldn't) heal them.

"how can i love zoro and sanji equally?"
the answer's really simple. falling in love with zoro was easy. seeing him and thinking he is everything you hoped for, everything you wanted. it was love at first sight. and falling in love with sanji was like seeing the ocean for the first time and wanted to explore more and dive into it. yes, the deeper you go, the darker it gets, but the beauty and wonders of it never ceases to amaze me. it doesn't matter how you fell in love, just that it is love.

Just thinking about how heartbroken Reyna must have truly been when Jason came back to Camp Jupiter and barely remembered her.
Because she met Percy, she does know that even when Juno takes your memories away, if you truly truly love and care and need another person you will be able to remember her, even if not entirely perfectly, but the memory will be there with you the whole way. Like the memory of Annabeth was with Percy.
And then Reyna sees Jason arrive with Piper, and it's okay really, it doesn't even hurt that much, she's Praetor, she has got a job to do, she cannot be getting distracted with silly little sentimental things like that.
And, okay, sure, Reyna can say, maybe Jason and her weren't that close in that sense, it's okay, but they were still good friends, co-leaders of a grand city, he still mattered a lot to her.
And same thing right, Percy did remember Nico, not that vividly or anything, but he did immediately know Nico and him knew each other from somewhere before, because The Ambassador was important to him, in a different way but still, important to Percy.
And then, Jason tells her that he didn't remember her at all, no name, no blurry face, no dreams, no voice, no vague sense that he was missing somebody from somewhere.
That he only started sorta remembering her days after he had already finished his quest, for his new patron goddess, and his new friends, at his new camp, in his new life, with his new girlfriend.
But it's fine, really, Reyna is mature, she doesn't let little things bring her down. She's roman, truly roman, daughter of a fully only Roman Goddess. She's Praetor, she's strong, she will welcome these strange Greek people into her city and throw a feast in their honour, she won't even be salty or rude about it. Really, Reyna is fine, it doesn't even hurt.

Can we talk about the implications of Conner being the son of the god of travelers and Nico being a demigod who is known to almost exclusively travel?
Conner, who has stayed in place in camp for years, meeting Nico, who can’t seem to stay anywhere for more than a week. Nico, who can TELEPORT. Nico, who is noted to have seen most of the world via shadow travel.
Nico did almost nothing but travel after leaving camp when he was a kid. Working with Minos and venturing everywhere he could to try and get his sister back. Nico returns to camp, only to take a few trips to Camp Jupiter enough to be recognized as a camper there.
Nico traveling with the Athena Parthenos, a trip he thought would kill him but doing it anyways. He was born to travel and move and refuses to stay still for even a second.
He’s an eternal body in motion. In every book he is somewhere else. And where is Conner? At camp. Waiting for his return.
The eternal traveller falls in love with the son of traveling.

omg rm9 was kinda fun To Me. i enjoyed mulder and scully going on a sushi date, scully being SOOOOO embarrassingly down bad for a man she’s known over 20 years, and of course the restaurant attacking them because mulder is a bad tipper. it’s also just nice to see them living life, you know??
i had a blast with rm9 tbh, a classic s11 well! have no idea what happened there! but i enjoyed myself! episode. just talked about it a bit but yes!! just seeing them living life!! literally the majority of s11 isn't even them going on cases they're just like. existing. and falling into Situations. in rm9 all they wanted to do was go to this sushi place. scully is of course always embarrassing as hell but what i loved loved loved loved about her in rm9 (and consequently throughout s11) is that last moment at the diner when they're both on their phones, and she puts hers away and just kinda leans over to his shoulder and takes his hand, and he puts his phone down.
i was so floored to see her do that, to ask for his attention like that. so much of the original series is scully...almost quietly suffocating, sometimes? being on the edge of his myopia and focus? wanting him to see her so bad, and then lashing out (READ: fucking serial killers) to either rebel, or get him to notice? but it's been a long time and he has been many more things to her since and now she just grabs his hand and makes him turn to her. in forehead sweat when she whines that he needs to feed her or she's leaving!! and then she does leave!!! in plus one when they aren't even "back together" yet, and she sneaks into his motel room and asks him to hold her.
scully in the revival has left him. she has struck out on her own, had her own career, lived on her own, been a doctor. and she's back and they're back because there's work to be done, and because, as james wong says: "She’s in love with him that way. She had a different career as a doctor, but she came back, because this is so important to him—she’s coming back to be there for him."
she's back, and they're back, because they're always choosing each other, and they've proven it, and they've done the work. she complains about his stakeouts. she cracks jokes about being sure he's on his meds!! she knows that their son is "guiding" them both, somehow. she doesn't question it.
she's embarrassingly down bad even after 25 years because she's never anything but adored him, but there's so much more availability now. she can openly check him out and invite him back into her room and giggle at him and sleep on his jacket in bars. she used to cry, every single time that he was present with her. she used to be so overwhelmed that she couldn't speak, when he was focused on her. this is the inverse reaction of the stability and peace that mulder has found, there's a steady foundation for scully to grow on.
