Okay so, here I am with my pointless ramblings.
Dr. Prerna Kamble.
department of english literature. her topic is ‘novellas’.
Ma'am is actually a kokil kanthi apsara cuz hear me- as you won't be able to hear her from the backbenches.
She's pretty nice tho, and sweet. Collectively better than all the school teachers I've seen in my life.
Personal fav so far ngl. Encourages us to provide our input openly and does not belittle us for wrong answers.
Maybe I'll try to be in her good books because I love validation from English professors.
Dr. Grishma Khobragade.
head of department of english literature. he's not teaching any topic so far.
Heavens know how sir has the energy to speak so much so early in the morning (it's 10:30 am but don't come at me).
I don't think he ever shuts up. The yapping game is strong.
Compulsive oversharer. Speaks about his family and achievements in every third sentence. He's like me. Actually not, I'm not that of a boastful person.
He prolly knows my name now because I answer stuff in the class. Looks at me whenever someone isn't able to answer something. I don't want to live upto anybody's expectations, I was born to be a menace to the society.
Gives male Geet vibes from Jab We Met but make it slightly annoying? I think I'm being a hater now.
Dr. Samaajdaar aka, Dr. Sam.
or as my friend and I like to call him, dr. spicy nice. department of english literature. he teaches us short stories.
Has the most brutal roasts. You'd be compelled to hide your face when he starts speaking.
God. The superiority complex is wild but kinda valid. He's an ex IAS officer. I'd flex that too.
Why he hasn't started with the short stories yet? He's busy mocking the grammar taught to us in schools. I don't blame him.
He's a staunch feminist. Frequently mentions that housework isn't recognised enough and the world's been torturous to generations of women. A gal's gal we'll call him.
Mr. (or Dr.?) (Fuck if I know if he has a PhD.) Viplov (idk his last name)
professor of philosophy. he's a deceiving guy.
Seems really chill at first.
He is the type who'd feed you slow, sweet poison. And you'll buy his bullshit because he's very persuasive.
He said the Shrimad Bhagavad Geeta emphasizes on the caste system and hence, limits potential. Screw him for that honestly.
He says he teaches the Vedas and other spiritual texts to people so he's the one correctly interpretating it all? God help me-
Pretty sure an anti-theist. I will just sit back and stare unnervingly at him in all the lectures hence. Respect others' opinions even if they don't align with yours, that's basic decency. I don't argue or counter him because he has 40 marks of internals in his hands.

what if you were a girl trying to change her major and you wanted to take a class but your schedule from hell said no. and you were also on the verge of a mental breakdown
#i want. to change my major#but I don't know how much I will like this new major and I am hesitant to just jump right in and start it#so I was like ah I should take a class from the new major along with my old major classes#so if I like my current/old major I can keep going with it#and if I like the new major then I actually know#that way I'm not going in blind and risking hating it especially this new major I'm trying is a difficult major#but the only way to take this specific class is to drop the class with my favorite teacher in it :(#i don't even know. if I like my major or not. Like maybe I just do. Idk I'm like. It's okay but I'm not passionate about it#I don't know what the fuck I wanna do#i could take this other class at 9am that's super gross I guess#but then that leaves me with a single hour lecture in the middle of the afternoon on Thursday#and I know me. there's a very high chance I will just skip it and sleep in#Or I could just continue with my current classes#But then either I A. Do the sample next semester which is bad bc if I already hate my major I don't wanna keep doing it next semester#Or B. I immediately switch my major and go in blind which I don't wanna do either in case I hate that too!#Also issue with the 9am class: it's a lot of calc and physics and I don't. Know physics lmao#the class where I have to drop my fav teacher has subjects I'm a lot more familiar/comfortable with so I'd rather do that#i really like my teacher tho she's my fav :(#and my only other option besides the fav teacher is a mystery professor so idk if she's any good#sigh.#either I continue with current classes#drop the fav teacher to get into the class I want and risk having a sucky teacher for that other second class#or I just take my chances with the 9am and hope my lack of physics doesn't completely fail me#I don't know what to do my schedule sucks so much#hnfffffffgggggg#i really wanna take the new major class but I don't know if I want to drop the other class with my fav teacher#this is super vague and confusing but I'm trying not to give out too many details#i have like. A week and a half to decide and I'm super stressed about it so not fun for me#i might try and find out what the other teacher is like beforehand but I just worry#lilac post

analyzing hermes, emet-selch, the ancients and ascians, how they're written, and the fandom's reaction to them be like hm. emet-selch's role in this fuckery is compounded by the fact that his backstory as a genocide survivor is incongruous with his ruling a huge genocidal colonialist world power in the present da [ANTISEMITISM BLAST]
#ffxiv#ffxiv hermes#emet-selch#i have Posts in Me to write up about the subject but like you can maybe immediately start connecting some dots here lmao#hermes and the ancients lie at the intersection of A Lot of Shit That is Very Important to Me#the vast majority of it having to do with gaslighting in various different forms#one of those posts is going into how his story reminds me eerily of what Questioning Things in an abusive evangelical environment is like#and how the fandom instantly jumping straight to OH SO YOU THINK THE ANCIENTS SHOULD HAVE BEEN GENOCIDED IS THAT IT#YOU THINK THEY SHOULD BE INFANTILIZED AND CIVILIZED BY THE SUPERIOR MORALS OF YOUR OWN CULTURE IS THAT IT#and start throwing around words like 'sympathizer'; if you say 'hermes was right about some shit actually'#'what we see of the ancients' society is full of inexcusably horrific shit which does not get a pass for ~different values~'#smacks strongly to me of evangelical crybullying in the name of Cultural Sensitivity#and how people use 'well it's not my business what other cultures think is right or wrong' as an excuse to throw up their hands and#disengage from actually learning about or supporting the people in those cultures who know and are working within it to fight bigotry#amazingly enough 'racism and misogyny and queerphobia are bad' is not an idea exclusive to western cultures lmfao#your job if you engage is to seek out those people--across the spectrum of opinions and relationships to their culture's issues!#they're not a monolith!--and spread that information; and listen to what they ask of you when they tell you what kind of help they need#but that's complicated; and takes time and care and thought and effort and connecting to marginalized people#talking over activists and victims of the societal issues they live with; and telling them they're the same as colonizers; is easy-peasy#like i cannot stress enough here that hermes Is an Ancient. He Lives Here. He Knows His Society and Thinks About It a Lot#He Wants to Salvage It and is Specifically Fucked Up About Feeling Like He Can't Trust People Around Him for Input#WoL doesn't barge in and start telling the ancients what's what; they find the person who Cares and back him up that he's not crazy or alon#anyway there's a lot here but it is uh. a Lot. the ways in which the game blends up christianity and judaism here.#including the fact that between the two; the default cultural values and dynamics align more with christian associations of Conformity#(the game is by japanese creators and i feel like that's A Factor too; but there are Eerily Accurate evangelical things going on here)#and people cape for the ones who are Most Evangelical about it + the one whose Compelling Aspects are all antisemitic as fuck tropes#whereas the brown guy who grapples with his faith and worldview; who questions and challenges and argues with others in his ethnoreligion#and tries to look for perspective and deeper meaning + Improve Society Somewhat; gets torn apart in the worst faith possible by the fandom#ffxivtag#warning: worm grass

i find it rlly funny when i make a character and i’m just like. tumblr would love them. tumblr would be all over this character. why isn’t tumblr obsessed w them already. and then remember they exist only in my mind :(
#my character birthday i love birthday he’s one of my favorite characters i’ve ever made and i know he would be a hit on tumblr lmao#his name is birthday and he’s the birthday boy and it’s his birthday!#and also he’s devastatingly lonely. and lowkey got theseus’ shipped. whoops.#and also lilith. tumblr would adore lilith.#called the ghost of the wasteland and her existence is largely only rumored. was a genetic experiment to create something that#could survive the nuclear wastelands that cover the majority of her world. they succeeded but she escaped and now lives in those same#wastelands. is incredibly codependent w a very morally grey dude who was a black market test subject for poisons who escaped around the#same time as her and they ended up relying entirely on each other for survival for years and know each other better than anyone#but struggle to connect in any way that isn’t solely to keep each other alive when they’re older.#he never talks about his past and she is almost entirely nonverbal and doesn’t rlly want to find a way to tell him about hers.#she also realized after she escaped that she prefers to be referred to w she/her pronouns after her existence being viewed as#something instead of a someone and choosing that for herself is one of the first choices she ever made for herself and who she is.#and she’s only a side character in the story and mostly just haunts the narrative but yknow i should incorporate her more because#wow i love her actually. she’s dope as hell XD#dandy talks#my ocs#can’t talk more about birthday even tho i love him just as much because one of my friends has my tumblr and i’m using birthday#in a story i’m writing w my friends for fun and i don’t wanna spoil anything more than i have lmao. but yeah birthday is so cool lmao

fuck this shit i'm NOT working this summer
#the initial plan was to work august september#but it turned out i'll be going to vienna at the beginning of september so i was planning to work for almost the whole august instead#so i messaged a buddy of mine who's been already working in a few shops#to ask which ones would be most eagar to hire me for a month#he didn't tell me and instead went 'lmao only for a month?' and it somehow pissed me off so much#i don't need money at the moment because i have a shit ton of savings so i was planning to work mostly so i wouldn't sit bored at home#but everyone around me seems to think that all people my age should definitely work for the whole summer#that at this age that's how ot should be because adults should work instead of staying at home for weeks#well fuck you all the same thing was going on when i said i wouldn't make a diving license ans that's why im already considered a#disappointment to society#i was grinding the schoolwork like crazy this year and ended up with maxed grades from the majority of the subject meaning i will most#definitely get a scholarship that is like 500-800zl a month for a year#which is FAR MORE than I'd make working in some clothes store for 2 months#i was working so hard at school i believe i deserve a break during holidays because guess what? IM TIRED#and a perspective of resigning from a trip with friends to tire myself more at work isn't amusing to me#'but your cousin didn't go on a vacation and is working this summer'#well during the schoolyear she and her girlfriend were making cosplays amd visiting places (good for them) so she's probably not as fed up#with everything and doesn't mind working because she doesn't feel that much of a need for a break#but i do and im so damn mad at everyone who tells me otherwise#fuck off i already worked my ass off for last 9 months to get that damn scholarship so these holidays im resting#next two semesters i'll tone down om schoolwork and getting 5s only and then work during summer but not this year#AGHH i hate it here

Can you tell me about Paris I live not far but I've always been curious, I picture coffee shops and quirky buildings and lots of books. Or maybe I watch too many movies 🤔
[NOTE: Long post!!]
Hello, Anon! <3
Hmm well I can only speak from my own experience, and my perspective will be that of a foreigner bc I did not grow up in France, and currently I'm not there (gonna try moving again maybe later in the year when I save more money), but there are a lot of cafes around central Paris (however, the famous ones are ridden with tourists and due to that are crazy expensive). There are international chains too like Starbucks or McDonalds for food, but I'd rather pay the same money on a coffee from a real cafe than on Starbucks, but that's just me lol. Imo it might be difficult to find a cheap but good cafe in central Paris because so many tourists visit them, so you have to search around a bit more if you want a good deal. Lots of boulangeries around too, and the prices are usually okay (not sure how expensive food is there now, but they were fine at some point I was there lol).
The buildings are more or less as pretty as they look in photos, but only in old Paris. A lot of boring-looking apartment buildings are around as well. Also if you're ever in an old apartment building, sometimes you have to really search for the hall/staircase light at night lol, otherwise you gotta use a torch to go up/down. But that might be normal in all of France idk, I haven't been in apartment buildings in other cities there.
Anywhere that is a tourist attraction though (of which there are many in a place like Paris) is OVERWHELMED by tourists. Like, if you lived in the area during peak holiday season (for example the Trocadéro near the Eiffel Tower), you will see a lot of visitors and may have to really weave your way through crowds if you have to get to a place quickly lol. But Trocadéro is fun in the summer if you can find a spot to chill out in the sun imo (just remember to wear sunscreen bc one time I didn't think it was THAT hot and I got a pretty strong lace-patterned sunburn through my top lmao).
There are theatres and cinemas EVERYWHERE which I ADOREEEE <3333 Nightlife culture is very good - there is almost ALWAYS somewhere to go or something to do, if you felt like it. There are underground jazz clubs, hidden bars, and at one point (not sure if they do it anymore post-covid pandemic) there used to be raves thrown in abandoned churches. Those things are certainly more fun with a friend or group of friends, imo. Lots of restaurants everywhere too, but ofc some are more expensive than others.
There are many bookshops too, and little stalls dotted along the Seine that sell old books and artworks (not sure how expensive they are, but they would probably have some nice books!). One time I was going to the theatre for a show and saw this second-hand bookshop still open and I ended up leaving with a first edition of Jean Giraudoux's Sodome et Gomorrhe.
Paris is somewhat like what is shown in the movies, but you need to give the city a reality check -- no city is perfect. Like many other cities, there are dodgy areas you'd wanna avoid sometimes, you may see people begging for money, there might be litter in some places (unfortunately), strikes make it more difficult to move around, and if you planned a visit that coincided with a big protest, then you probably won't get the picturesque and squeaky-clean experience of Paris that movies always try to show off. Also, if you're ever curious to visit and if you're not a fan of huge crowds, I *HIGHLY* recommend visiting in the winter. Less annoying swarms of tourists lol.
Paris is what you make of it tbh!
Hope this helps! <3 And if you made it this far into the post, here is some cake for you 🍰

With the language speaking poll, it varies from country (and state/county in the US)
In my area you're required 2 years of a language course
Most kids take it but do the bare minimum or just don't remember it. Usually you grow up knowing that language/being taught it young. Sometimes we learn jt in school and remember enough to keep taking to learn and remember. We usually offer use it or lose it languages, which most kids don't use it and then they lose it and then no one speaks other languages
Huh! That makes sense, actually, i feel like 2 years is not nearly enough to retain enough knowledge, and not even enough to learn a lot. I think when i started studying italian in 4th grade, we didn't even get to subjunctives by the time i was 8th grade, and subjunctives are a surprisingly common form. At least to the way I speak. And even among those who took the elective third language, i know a lot of folks who don't remember a thing about it, i'm assuming because even four years of a once-per-week class isn't enough for retention.
Well, it's sad, at least to me who is linguistically inclined. Quot linguas calles tot homines vales is something i take personally lololol but right! I guess it's the sort of inertion that happens to speakers of a lingua franca, there's no "need" to learn a foreign language, so even those who are talented for languages might never find out :/
Well, I hope thanks to globalisation, at least those who like foreign languages can find ways to learn even outside of formal schooling :>
#i think you'll notice easily that i'm a bit in love with foreign languages and really defend languages as a subject in school with my life#i once saw (a native eng speaker) call foreign language subjects joke classes and useless and i felt like maiming lmao#but i feel like i totally understand what you mean#it's one thing with english - it's a mandatory 2nd language from 1st to 12th grade in my country#which means that it's standardised and you're always learning more and more and more and thanks to media#you're bound to retain it. i even had it in preschool !#and a related digression but it also depends on the age you give students a foreign language - the older we get the harder it is to learn#a language. not impossible but just more difficult. i think a huge part of the reason why i'm fluent is because of the fact that i started#learning when i was 4 years old. the third language is an elective in most 4th-8th grade classes and kids get to choose#between italian and german usually (a friend of mine took french tho) and despite the fact that they're languages we do get exposed to#but i tell you most kids i know don't remember anything. depending on the high school you either get a mandatory 3rd language or a#mandatory 3rd and 4th. again italian and/or german. but those tortured souls in classic gymnasiums had latin and ancient greek </3#even from my hs class i don't know many folks who remember much italian. it's dependant on the kid's will to learn when there's not as much#time or focus on the class bc yknow. we took the same classes yet i'm quite comfortable majoring in a language my friends can barely#introduce themselves in. such is life. i'd love languages to be more focused on especially in these times of globalisation but well#i guess it'll just always be harder to implement a focus on anything non-english#bc it's considered one of the only useful language there's the inertion in anglo countries#and the unwillingness to bother in non-anglo countries#at least in mine where kids have like 17 other subjects i can see why they'd to the bare minimum for 3rd language#even i - linguistically inclined as i am - passed on the opportunity to take french in hs because i just had enough on my plate#asks

Gather ‘round, it is time once again for Tyto’s 3 a.m. fic recs~
I dove into AO3 looking for vampire fic because,,, you know, and among the many quality fics for the new tv series, I stumbled on one that was actually written prior to the show’s debut.
It starts out more or less the same as book canon, with Louis becoming a vampire in the 1790s and Lestat moving into Louis’ estate outside New Orleans. Then it’s revealed that this version of Louis, while light-skinned, is actually mixed race. With all the worst accompanying historical baggage that goes with... that.
The story... diverges from there.
It’s written with intense care in regards to historical context and sensitivity, while still confronting uncomfortable topics. If you want a fic that actually addresses the whole “protagonist of the story owned a goddamn plantation” thing unflinchingly, then this is the fic to read.
Also includes an A+ portrayal of Louis and Lestat’s fraught communication problems, Louis’ unceasing struggle with mental health (and the whump that comes of that), and--believe it or not--a happy ending!
