Well then!
So, last July, I came down to visit my dad’s new house in Florida for the first time.
(It’s not a retiree thing, it’s a ‘my father has been a Disney fanatic his entire life and corrupted my stepmother into loving it too, so much to the point they picked out a home less than an hour’s drive from the Magic Kingdom’ thing. But that’s not really relevant at the moment.)
We spent a long weekend pretty much just hanging out, like we used to when Dad lived fifteen minutes away from me, with a couple trips to the local movie theater and LOTS of enthusing over new comic books. But! I ended the trip on a bit of an unhappy note, realizing only when I got home to Texas that I’d accidentally left my colored pencils in Florida.
The 24-piece set wasn’t especially important in and of itself, but I’d spent decent money on a nice zippered case that matched the one my watercolor pencils are in, and I wanted it back.
Dad had no luck finding it. On my next trip, a couple months later in September, I also had no luck. *rassafrassamumblegrumble*
However, being emotionally damaged to the point I don’t cry unless something really terrible happens CAN have an upside, and in this instance it meant I sighed and moved on, trying other sets of pencils and not bothering to buy any new cases until I could find something I really liked to use.
But now! I am on my latest trip, sneaking in a few days before Thanksgiving before I gotta go back home and work Black Friday weekend (be nice to your delivery drivers, guys, this is their shittiest time of year). On both previous visits, my stepmother was out of town for different things, intentionally timed so that I could have Dad all to myself, she’s thoughtful like that. Last night, though, all three of us were hanging out in the den, doing various things on our different laptops and idly chatting, when I asked if Dad ever happened to come across my colored pencils.
Stepmother picks her head up.
No, Dad says after a moment, Sorry, still nothing. Stepmother blinks at him.
For her benefit, I start to explain about misplacing my pencils two visits prior. I get no further than a single sentence before she’s setting her laptop aside, standing up, and announcing Well That’s Easily Fixed!
My occasionally (read: frequently) insane step-parent disappears briefly into her office. She returns with not one, not two, but three, MASSIVE sets of colored pencils, one in a thick zippered case and two in tin containers with layered trays. VERY high quality, one hundred and eighty pieces EACH.
This is a woman who grew up on a limited household budget, and lived the first couple decades of her adult life in a similar, frugal-by-necessity manner. But! Ever since marrying my dad, getting to live on his income while going back to school, and steadily climbing her way up in the medical profession to a point where she now makes As Much and Half Again of what my computer engineer father does- she likes to buy Shiny Things. As in, she will happily throw herself into a new hobby for the excuse of purchasing all kinds of cool materials for it (skeins of yarn, paint supplies, baking equipment, etc), dabble for a few months, and then move onto something new. ADHD Mood, anyone?
Anywho.
The coloring book phase is apparently long since over, and she happily gifted me with two of these massive colored pencil sets. Dad reminded her I only came with a small suitcase and mini duffel bag. She airily waved a hand and said if I needed more carrying capacity, they’d get me another suitcase before I go home.
I may have had my reservations in the early days, but I can easily state now that I wholeheartedly love this woman.
(And that I anticipate the distant day when the grief of losing her and Dad will hopefully be offset by inheriting an insane amount of old art supplies and comic books, ‘cause like hell are my stepbrothers getting any of it.)

-poke with stick- you alive? where’s the spooky szn music stuff?? i sent requests twice but you ignore. #feelsbadman #imannoying T_T.
I'm back (not really)! Sowwie. Hiatus, kind of. On vacation with friends/fam for my birthday (it's Oct 23rd but I celebrate the entire month cause it's the only time I get to be self centered, lol), so yeah. You're not annoying me. We've been on vacation since the 12th. My set up is back at home, so I couldn't take requests for or make any music right now even if I wanted to. Quick update (wanted to share this since I never make personal posts anymore):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The ocean sunset here is so beautiful, I love simple things like this. It looks like the sky is hand painted every day. My favorite thing here is the view (& this bathroom). As soon as you walk through the lobby it's like boom - vacation. The best thing about traveling, for me, is feeling like I'm on a high. The rooms overlook the pool & beach, the suite is a full apartment. Also obsessed with this shower & tub.
Tumblr media
The location is so convenient cause there's tons of restaurants not far from the island & onsite. We had a poolside lunch delivered yesterday from one of the restaurants nearby & there were different healthy options available (shrimp salad, veggie rolls, sandwiches, fruit, ceviche, etc) which I love. The executive chef at the the resort has a passion for farming & local cooking so pretty much all the herbs & the greens used on-property are grown right here, in a huge greenhouse. It's so cool. New plants are springing up!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They also have a spa, golf course that was fun, gym, breakfast cafe, indoor pool, onsite activities like nature tours, fitness classes & a kids' club. We visited the spa, which was fun, I had a hot stone massage & facial while Yas had a deep tissue massage. & every night we've been bar hopping like drunks, lmao. We had scallops, steak & potatoes, bruschetta-watermelon & feta pizza with cucumber - a new favorite of mine, & cake for dessert.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was my idea to roast marshies & make s'mores, trying to get into the fall spirit. 😏 Also, we did some fall shopping earlier in the month & let me tell you I think I have a candle problem. We bought a lot of scents. Sunrise Woods, Cinnamon Vanilla, Pumpkin Pecan Waffles, Caramel Pumpkin Swirl, Cinnamon Irish Cream & Vampire Blood. Vampire Blood.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I digress. We're leaving tomorrow & are going to spend the rest of the month at Disney Paris for Halloween. So I'll probably be back home sometime November & then I can do music requests (& post a really funny Pumpkin Spice video that I've been wanting to). I'm just taking a break/focusing on my life & my family. Don't wait up. 🖤

Cog Boss Headcanons
these are mostly based on observations from each boss fight battle, their headquarters, etc. even promotional material from Disney themselves
obviously my own headcanons, no one has to follow these if they don’t want to!
The Senior Vice President of Sales (the VP):
-often leaves out the ‘senior’ part of his title (he does not like it)
-the most impulsive of the four
-unsurprisingly the most charismatic. he’s gotta make those sales after all
-he’s a bit of an airhead but does not like it when others point it out (one of the few things he’s insecure about)
-often nicknamed ‘sparks’ due to his light bulbs occasionally sparking when he feels extreme emotion (ecstasy, rage, shock)
-the VP is surprisingly crafty. he’s a bit of an inventor (whose creations often fail) that tries to come up with new gimmicky products to sell. he also made his toon cage all by himself
-his bulbs light up when he gets an idea of any kind
-closest to the CFO
-often butts heads with the CEO (their egos clash with each others’), they never agree on anything
-he loves the holidays! besides making additional monetary gain he genuinely enjoys the tackiness of it all
-the only boss that tries to get to know his employees on occasion
(more headcanons below)
The Chief Financial Officer (the CFO):
-one of the more grounded/mature bosses
-kind of a grump but that’s due to his throbbing headache after getting run over by trains multitudes of times
-ironically, he loved trains and train sets. after constant run-ins with toons however, the sight of them gradually makes him sick (and a bit traumatized even oops)
-has sharp teeth to prevent anyone from getting the idea of sticking their hands into his mouth to steal his money (he’s still a cash register after all) (the VP may or may not have tried this before, ouch)
-gets super embarrassed when his cash register mouth opens in public
-of his three colleagues he likes the VP the most but will never admit it to anyone not even himself (haha tsundere)
-the only person he’s (openly) scared of is the Chairman
-dislikes toons the most. untrusting towards them as well
-kind of paranoid of everyone being after his money. this man needs therapy
-he LOVES goons, they’re the ‘dogs’ of the cog world. often pets them and goes “who’s a good tattletell???”
The Chief Justice (the CJ):
-the most mature one of the bunch but honestly kinda absent minded
-will never tell you if his hair is really a wig or not
-he will never tell you if he has eyes or not either
-the “nicest” of the four; as in he still doesn’t like toons and does his job no problem but treats them with the most dignity anyway (such as letting saddened toons go with their gags intact)
-in order of the colleagues he respects the most to least: CFO, VP, CEO
-never the cause of drama between his colleagues
-when drama does ensue however, he tends to walk away until his colleagues stop squabbling. he’s too old for this
-naps in his spare time, wears a sleeping mask over his blindfold (for comedic effect)
-physically he is there, but mentally he is on an island getaway. that being said he daydreams a lot about his ideal vacation/retirement
-greatly enjoys puzzle games. he is the number one pro minesweeper player and is super quick at completing it, even the CFO fears his power
-legend has it if you honk his nose, it will emit bicycle horn sounds
The Chief Executive Officer (the CEO):
-in public meetings/outings he pretends to be the most mature of the four since its expected of him, but he’s probably the most unpredictable/erratic one behind closed doors
-likes to carry his golf club everywhere he goes
-never takes his hat off
-the meanest one in general. is only “nice” to his colleagues because he is (visibly) scared of the Chairman (but pretends he’s not)
-despite this he does not like it when his fellow bosses try to exclude him out of events
-has humiliating memories of being demoted to a Flunky many times before
-the only thing he loves more than power is golf. sleeps right next to his favorite/signature golf club every night (yes even giving it a pillow and tucking it in at night)
-has named said golf club “putt-putt”. he’s too far gone
-prone to throwing temper tantrums on occasion
-hates opening up to anyone and thinks showing emotion is considered weak
-the only boss that enjoys eating real food (sandwiches, apples, cupcakes and cakes are his favorites). or at least, he tries to as every attempt gives him a stomachache (clogging up his insides and making a mess)
-this is likely why toons attack him with seltzer bottles instead of cakes. they don’t affect him and he tries to eat them anyway
The Bosses in General:
-they can switch from sitting on their podiums to having legs in-between shifts
-the only cog bosses that have tried physically fighting each other before is the VP and CEO; whenever this happens the CFO and CJ have to restrain them apart
-the Chairman expects the bosses to get along with each other, mostly in order for their business to run as smoothly as possible
-they’re all quite lonely (especially during work hours) but all four have different attitudes about it: the VP tries making conversation with his employees or distract himself with office duties. the CFO tries to brush it off and ignore it. the CJ accepts it for how it is and is at peace. the CEO denies such feelings because then he will be perceived as weak
-the VP and CJ have tried jump-roping together before out of boredom; however they were told to stop by everyone else as they were unintentionally causing mini earthquakes (explaining their high jump attacks)

40 years, 40 movies: My life through film
Tumblr media
On Feb. 16, I’m turning 40. In honor of this milestone birthday, I chose my favorite movie (and a runner-up) for each year of my existence.
Some years were easy, as there was an obvious personal choice. Others, like 1994 or 1999 which are among the greatest years in film history, proved far more difficult.
What I discovered was there’s literally hundreds of movies I love from the past 40 years but my favorites are the ones that made the most impact and I, unequivocally, adore. The results are deeply autobiographical, so join me on a four-part journey exploring the movies that shaped who I am.
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF 20TH CENTURY FOX
1983: “Return of the Jedi”
It was perhaps inevitable that I would become a “Star Wars” fan. I was named after Obi-Wan actor Alec Guinness. As my parents only had a VHS copy of “Return of the Jedi,” it was my first introduction to “Star Wars.” Given the episodic, serialized nature of the movies, I was able to just drop into the next adventure and fall in love with R2-D2, C3PO, Luke, Han and Leia.  (Runner-up: “National Lampoon’s Vacation”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF SONY PICTURES
1984: “Ghostbusters”
“Ghostbusters” remains one of the defining franchises for me. Movies, cartoons, comics, toys, clothes, it has been an obsession since I was a little boy. My baby teeth marks were on the box of the VHS tape my parents owned. My first day of kindergarten became less traumatic when I found two boys playing Ghostbusters and they invited me to join them. They already picked Peter (Bill Murray) and Ray (Dan Akyroyd), leaving me with the nerdy Egon (Harold Ramis). I was disappointed. Now I’m totally Team Egon. (Runner-up: “The Neverending Story”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF UNIVERSAL PICTURES
1985: “Back to the Future”
This is another seminal film from my childhood and typically my default answer for my favorite movie. The idea of time travel sparked my imagination as a child. I used to run around my backyard as a kid, humming Alan Silvestri’s theme, imagining I was traveling through time with Christopher Lloyd’s Doc Brown. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve watched the film, but the final act still fully engages me every time. (Runner-up: “The Breakfast Club”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF PARAMOUNT PICTURES
1986: “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”
Any child coming of age in the 1980s and 1990s was hugely affected by the teen films of John Hughes, who was able to perfectly capture the angst of growing up. “Ferris Bueller” was the ultimate kid fantasy: Skipping school for a day in the city with your friends. Better yet, Ferris manages to outsmart all the adults, including snooty waiters, parents and the principal. As a kid, Matthew Broderick’s Ferris felt like the embodiment of cool. As an adult, it is undeniable that the anxiety-ridden Cameron (Alan Ruck) is my avatar. (Runner-up: “Labyrinth”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF MGM
1987: “Spaceballs”
I had a major Mel Brooks phase in my adolescence. I even held a party dedicated to watching Brooks films. I vividly remember my friend Rebecca Howland telling me “The Producers” was good, but not as good as “2001” (the film it beat for Best Original Screenplay). Only four Brooks films have been released in my lifetime. Of those four, “Spaceballs” is the one I’ve revisited the most because its inspired lunacy is perfectly delivered by its cast, including Bill Pullman, John Candy, Rick Moranis and Brooks, himself, in dual roles. (Runner-up: “The Princess Bride”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF TOUCHSTONE PICTURES
1988: “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”
This was a mind-blowing film for a kid. It was the first and only time Disney and Warner Bros. characters interacted together. It remains the definite seamless blend of live-action and animated characters. But the biggest mindfreak to my little brain was that Christopher Lloyd, my beloved Doc Brown from “Back to the Future,” was the evil Judge Doom. Years later, while studying film in college, I would write an essay exploring the film’s take on the film noir genre. (Runner-up: “Beetlejuice”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF 20TH CENTURY PICTURES
1989: “Say Anything”
Anyone who knows me, knows that I’m a big Batman fan, so it probably seems insane that my No. 1 choice for 1989 isn’t Tim Burton’s “Batman.” Here’s the thing, I’m also a huge fan of actor John Cusack and writer/director Cameron Crowe. If you need any indication of how much I love this movie, “Say Anything” is tattooed on my right arm. “Say Anything” is the definitive 1980s teen romance with Lloyd Dobler being the ideal model of a boyfriend. (Runner-up: “Batman”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF NEW LINE CINEMA
1990: “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”
There was a time when the ninja turtles were my everything. I had a tape with a couple of episodes of the cartoon that featured a trailer for the live-action film. I loved the cartoon but this was different. It was dark and atmospheric like the comic books that inspired the cartoon and toys, and the Jim Henson-created turtles looked real. The film deepened my love. I had a cassette of the film’s theme song, “Turtle Rhapsody” that I danced to constantly in my room. (Runner-up: “Tremors”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF ORION PICTURES
1991: “Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey”
I vacillated on what my  first choice and runner up would be for 1991. I nearly chose “Addams Family,” but I prefer its 1993 sequel “Addams Family Values.” Alas, a certain dinosaur movie claimed that year. Ultimately, I went with another sequel that actually improves upon its predecessor. Sequels almost always just repeat the formula of the original, but “Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey” largely throws out the time travel antics of “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure” and goes on a bonkers adventure through heaven and hell featuring evil robots and an alien named Station. (Runner-up: “Addams Family”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF PARAMOUNT
1992: “Wayne’s World”
On the surface, Wayne and Garth (Mike Myers and Dana Carvey) are clones of the dim-witted headbangers Bill and Ted, but “Wayne’s World” has more of a satirical edge than the “Bill and Ted” movies, with Wayne providing fourth-wall breaking commentary throughout that mocks filmmaking cliches. I’m a big “Saturday Night Live” fan, and this was my gateway to the show. My friend, Caleb Ring, had a camera and we recreated scenes as “Caleb’s World” and “Alec’s World.” Maybe they still exist in a dusty box somewhere. (Runner-up: “Reservoir Dogs”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF UNIVERSAL
1993: “Jurassic Park”
At 10 years old, I remember a mixture of excitement and nervousness about seeing Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Michael Crichton’s sci-fi novel about a dinosaur theme park gone awry. I wanted to see, but would it be too scary? I vividly remember sitting in a darkened theater watching the T-Rex attack. I was scared but also mesmerized by the groundbreaking dinosaur effects. It was also my introduction to Jeff Goldblum, and he has made my life better ever since.   (Runner-up: “Mrs. Doubtfire”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF MIRAMAX
1994: “Clerks”
“Clerks” wasn’t my first introduction to writer/director Kevin Smith (that was 1999’s “Dogma”), but working at both a convenience and video store, the plight of its New Jersey clerks spoke to me. I would even write my own script set in a video store that years later I would convert into a play that was performed in a New York theater festival. Last year, I was lucky enough to interview Smith and tell him that. (Runner-up: “Pulp Fiction”)
Tumblr media
  COURTESY OF DISNEY
1995: “A Goofy Movie”
Goofy has always been my favorite Disney cartoon character. This movie is significant because it is the first movie review I ever wrote. It was an assignment for sixth-grade English. I received an A, which sent me down the path to where I am today. It still remains one of my favorite movies for its strong father-son story, offbeat humor and the excellent songs by the fictional popstar Powerline. (Runner-up: “Before Sunrise”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF DIMENSION
1996: “Scream”
Growing up, I wasn’t a horror kid. I was more likely to watch the Muppets take Manhattan than Jason. But by 1996, I was already a fan of Mel Brooks and Monty Python and had a growing understanding of parody. The idea of “Scream” being both a satire and an example of the slasher genre intrigued me. The humor made the scares more palatable and piqued my interest into further exploration of the horror genre. (Runner-up: “Jerry Maguire”)
Tumblr media
HOLLYWOOD PICTURES
1997: “Grosse Pointe Blank”
For years, John Cusack was my celebrity man crush because he was the perfect balance of vulnerability, sarcastic wit and nonchalant coolness. All of that is on display here as Martin Blank, a hitman who decides to go to his 10-year high school reunion. Also, I often discover music from movies, and this film’s killer soundtrack (pun intended) introduced me to a lot of great punk and New Wave music, including The Clash’s “Rudie Can’t Fail,” The Violent Femme’s “Blister in the Sun” and The English Beat’s “Mirror in the Bathroom.” (Runner-up: “Good Will Hunting”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF PARAMOUNT
1998: “The Truman Show”
Like many ’90s kids, I became obsessed with Jim Carrey’s style of comedy. I drove my family crazy shouting catch phrases like “allllll righty then” and “ssssssmokin’.” But ‘The Truman Show” was different. It was still funny, but in a more subtle, satirical way, and showed that Carrey had dramatic range. I was 15 when it came out, and it made me feel clever that I was able to pick up on the film’s commentary. (Runner-up: “The Wedding Singer”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF FOX 2000 PICTURES
1999: “Fight Club”
My love of social critique and satire continued to grow with “Fight Club.” I clearly remember watching “Fight Club” in a theater and my jaw literally dropping upon getting to the big twist. Not many people saw “Fight Club” in theaters, so my friends didn’t believe me when I said it was great, especially since I couldn’t explain why without spoiling it. It’s a film that not only holds up to repeat viewing but benefits from it as there are Easter eggs hidden throughout. (Runner up: ”Dogma”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF COLUMBIA PICTURES
2000: “Almost Famous”
Around this time, I made a decision that I wanted to be a film critic, so Cameron Crowe’s autobiographical film about a teenage rock journalist in the 1970s hit me in all the right places. The protagonist is an awkward, geeky kid in love with and in awe of the rock world and that was me with movies. When I became a journalist, I only learned to love this movie more for everything it gets absolutely right. (Runner up: “High Fidelity”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF UNIVERSAL
2001: “Josie and the Pussycats”
There are absolutely better films that came out in 2001 but I continue to stand by this silly satire of the music industry and consumerism. I’ve been a defender of this film since it came out. I even had the poster up in my college dorm room. It did not make me cool but, in a just world it would have. The original songs are genuinely great, and the cast, especially Alan Cumming as a villainous record label flunky, is perfect. (Runner up “The Royal Tenenbaums”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF UNITED ARTISTS
2002: “Igby Goes Down”
Growing up in rural Maine, I didn’t have access to a lot of independent films, but that changed when I went to Keene State College to study film. Keene had two theaters that showed indie films: The Colonial Theatre and the on-campus Putnam Theatre. “Igby Goes Down” was one of the films I fell in love with while at KSC. It’s essentially a modern riff on “The Catcher in the Rye,” but with a more likable lead played by Kieran Culkin. There’s also an amazing supporting cast, including Susan Sarandon, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Claire Danes, Ryan Phillippe, Amanda Peet and Jared Harris. (Runner up: “About a Boy”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF LIONSGATE
2003: “Shattered Glass”
While at Keene State College, I was able to go to collegiate journalism conventions. At one of them, there was an early screening of “Shattered Glass,” which tells the story of Stephen Glass (Hayden Christensen), a journalist who fabricated dozens of articles while working at The New Republic. The film instilled in me a desire to be an ethical journalist with integrity. It also has one of my all-time favorite lines: “If I were to throw a party where all we did was play Monopoly, would you guys come?” It’s absolutely something I’d say. I just wish that it wasn’t said by Glass. (Runner-up: “Lost in Translation”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF WORKING TITLE
2004: “Shaun of the Dead”
Edgar Wright has become one of my favorite directors for how perfectly constructed all his films are. His first film, a zombie movie set in England that he co-wrote with star Simon Pegg, is the ideal genre blend of horror, comedy, romantic comedy and drama. This is the first film in what became dubbed the Cornetto trilogy, a trio of genre-bending films directed by Wright and starring Pegg and Nick. While it is mostly played for laughs, the dramatic moments hit hard every single time. (Runner-up: “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF DREAMWORKS
2005: “Wallace and Gromit and the Curse of the Were-Rabbit”
I was already a big fan of the stop-motion animation Wallace and Gromit shorts, so I was thrilled the English human and dog duo were making their feature film debut. I was in England getting my master’s in journalism at the University of Westminster when the film was in theaters. I went to visit my friend Natalie Toy in Hull to see it, and watching a film that is so thoroughly British in England is a memory I cherish. (Runner-up: “Batman Begins”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF SONY PICTURES
2006: “Stranger Than Fiction”
This is a film that takes a high-concept — a man (Will Ferrell) suddenly finds his mundane life the subject of a voice-over narration only he can hear — and executes it with humor, heart and intelligence. A dialed back Ferrell gives one of his best performances, and he’s surrounded by a great cast, including Emma Thompson, Dustin Hoffman, Queen Latifah, Tony Hale and Maggie Gyllenhaal. The film features some of my favorite romantic moments, including Ferrell playing and singing “Whole Wide World” on guitar and giving “flours” to Gyllenhaal’s baker character. (Runner-up: “Little Miss Sunshine”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF DREAMWORKS
2007: “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street”
Tim Burton’s film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s musical about a vengeful barber (Johnny Depp) and his partnership with the baker Mrs. Lovett (Helena Bonheim Carter) was my first introduction to the material. While liberties were taken, Burton was the perfect person to transition it from the stage to screen. I immediately fell in love with it. I’ve since seen it on stage three times and had a Sweeney Todd movie marathon with my friend Brian McElhiney in which we uncovered other obscure versions of the story, including one from 1936. (Runner-up: “Juno”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF WARNER BROS.
2008: “The Dark Knight”
Christopher Nolan's second film in his Batman trilogy is the strongest and is not only one of the best superhero films ever made but a great film regardless of genre. Heath Ledger’s Joker is an iconic film performance for the ages. His performance is the glue that holds the film together, but the rest of the cast, including Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent, and the slick storytelling proved that a comic book movie could and should be taken seriously. (Runner-up “Iron Man”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF PIXAR
2009: “Up”
Pixar has a history of making animated films that make adults cry, but with “Up” they weren’t messing around. The first 10 minutes, which shows the entire course of a relationship, has the power to crack even the most stone-faced viewer. The rest of the film is the charming adventure of a balloon salesman (Ed Asner) who attaches thousands of balloons to his house so he can fly to the mythical Paradise Falls. This film will always have a special place in my heart because it was the theme of my wedding. Adventure is out there everyday with my wife, Ashley.  (Runner-up ”Inglourious Basterds”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF UNIVERSAL
2010: “Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World”
Director and co-writer Edgar Wright’s adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s six-part graphic novel — a pastiche of comic books, video games, anime, romantic comedies, rock musicals, sitcoms, kung-fu movies and even a dash of Bollywood — immediately spoke to me. I became obsessed. I read the books, played the games, bought the toys, listened to the soundtrack and even got a tattoo of Scott Pilgrim and Ramona Flowers. I connected with it in a way that put it alongside my childhood favorites. As I get older, it only becomes more emotionally resonant. (Runner-up: “TRON: Legacy”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF SONY PICTURE CLASSICS
2011: “Midnight in Paris”
My relationship with Woody Allen films has become a complicated one. What he may or may not have done in his personal life colors his work, but can you separate the person from the art? I have to because so many of his earlier works helped shape me. This whimsical time travel comedy with Owen Wilson hobnobbing with literary and artistic idols in 1920s Paris is Allen’s last truly great film. It is a funny and thoughtful exploration of nostalgia. (Runner-up: “The Muppets”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF MARVEL
2012: “The Avengers”
Marvel Studios experiment in creating a shared universe of superheroes paid off with Joss Whedon’s “Avengers,” which brought together Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) for the first time. For better or worse, Marvel has continued to further expand their cinematic universe and experiment with serialized storytelling in film, but this first crossover event still holds up and is wildly entertaining. (Runner-up: “Looper”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF WORKING TITLE
2013: “The World’s End”
This the final installment of co-writer/director Edgar Wright’s Cornetto trilogy, a series of genre homages starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. “The World’s End” lampoons alien invasion films but is also a surprisingly sincere exploration of alcoholism with Pegg’s Gary King trying to recreate the best day of his life: a pub crawl he did with his friends as a teen. This is Wright’s third film on my list. I adore his storytelling and visual style. Everything is carefully constructed and paid off. Plus, I regularly quote the “Let’s boo-boo” line from his film. (Runner-up: “Pacific Rim”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF FOX SEARCHLIGHT
2014: “The Grand Budapest Hotel”
Idiosyncratic filmmaker Wes Anderson has a style all his own, including eccentric characters, deadpan humor, absurdist flourishes and a mise-en-scene in which everything is framed symmetrically. “Grand Budapest Hotel,” which centers on the misadventures of a hotel lobby boy (Tony Revolori) and a concierge (Ralph Fiennes), is possibly the most distilled version of Anderson’s particular brand of filmmaking. Anderson embraces the ridiculous and finds the beauty in it. (Runner-up: “The Lego Movie”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF WARNER BROS.
2015: “Mad Max: Fury Road”
Director George Miller returned to the “Mad Max” franchise 30 years after the previous installment, but this is not a shameless cash grab. This is pure action filmmaking of the highest order. “Fury Road” is a visceral, nearly non-stop chase. But this isn’t faceless or mindless action. The film has personality to spare, including a character playing a flame-throwing guitar. As there’s little dialogue, this is also an example of strong visual storytelling. (Runner-up: “Inside Out”)

2016: “La La Land”
After coming out of “La La Land,” I posted this on Facebook: “For anyone who has ever created something, done something artistic or has simply been passionate about something, ‘La La Land’ will speak to your soul.” After seeing writer/director Damien Chazelle’s exuberant, funny and ever-so-slightly heartbreaking musical about a jazz musician (Ryan Gosling) and an actress (Emma Stone) trying to find success and love in Los Angeles, I wanted to create. I began rewriting an old script that would eventually be performed in New York City in 2018. (Runner-up: “Yoga Hosers”)

2017: “Thor: Ragnarok”
This is my favorite film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to director Taika Waititi providing a much-needed tonal shift to the Thor (Chris Hemsworth) character. Waititi is a quirky filmmaker with an offbeat sense of humor that managed to shake things up at a time when the Marvel formula was starting to become a bit too familiar. “Ragnarok” remembers that comic book movies are supposed to be fun. It is colorful, funny and ridiculous, but also has strong character moments. Plus, Jeff Goldblum at his most Goldblumiest.(Runner-up “Baby Driver”)

COURTESY OF WARNER BROS.
2018: “A Star is Born”
Co-writer/director/star Bradley Cooper’s “A Star is Born” is the fourth filmed version of the story of a fading star meeting and falling in love with an undiscovered talent (Lady Gaga), and using what pull he has left to make her a star. The first 30 minutes are pretty much perfect and the rest of the film builds on that promise. I’ve only seen the film once and I can still vividly visualize scenes and the emotions attached to them. (Runner-up “A Simple Favor”)

COURTESY OF COLUMBIA PICTURES
2019: “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”
Writer/director Quentin Tarantino is one of my favorite filmmakers. I even taught a class on him for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. “Once Upon a Time,” Tarantino’s love letter to Hollywood in 1969, is basically a hang-out movie centered on a has-been TV actor (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his stuntman (Brad Pitt). In the background, Tarantino offers a revisionist history of the Manson family. It’s rich with location and character detail, and is both hilarious and unexpectedly poignant. (Runner-up: “Booksmart”)

COURTESY OF WARNER BROS.
2020: “Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn”
Margot Robbie’s portrayal of Harley Quinn was the best thing in 2016’s “Suicide Squad,” but this film is what made Harley one of my favorite DC characters and led to a further exploration of the character. Robbie is joined by an assortment of strong female heroes, including Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), The Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and detective Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez) to face off against the sadistic Black Mask (Ewan McGregor). This is the first comic book film directed and written by women, and the strong female perspective makes it unique and vital. (Runner-up: “Freaky”)

COURTESY OF SONY PICTURES
2021: “Ghostbusters: Afterlife”
As previously mentioned, “Ghostbusters” has been a huge part of my life, so I was thrilled when this long-awaited second sequel was announced. (For the record, I do genuinely love the 2015 remake). While the original ghostbusters only make a cameo appearance, this is a loving tribute to the late Harold Ramis (who co-wrote the first two films and starred as Egon) that passes the torch to a group of kid ghostbusters led by the amazing Mckenna Grace. This is nostalgia done right. Plenty of laughs, action and, yes, tears. (Runner-up: “The Mitchells Vs. the Machines”)
Tumblr media
COURTESY OF A24
2022: “Everything Everywhere All at Once”
This completely bonkers multiverse adventure is difficult to describe but is a fully engrossing mix of sci-fi, martial arts, comedy and family drama. It is a terrific showcase for Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan and Stephanie Hsu. Its sincerely sold themes of optimism, kindness and love gives it weight and heart. Quan was in “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” and “The Goonies” in the 1980s, but hadn’t acted in 30 years. He’s so good here, it makes me sad that we missed on decades of performances from him. (Runner-up: “Glass Onion”)

As she gets older, she realizes her confidence gets more and more hollow, and she isn't equipped to make the difficult decisions she's being confronted with. * TIMELINE * ༉‧₊˚✧
ꕥ STEP ONE
Ken is an excitable and friendly young girl who moved to Golden Grove just before her first day of 5th grade. She has a bit of a competitive streak and stubbornly wants to win anything that's made into a contest, but is good natured enough to accept defeat (eventually). Being new to the district, she feels a bit out of place in the already-established cliques. Even though school is easy for her and the other kids seem to like her, going makes her nervous for the first month-ish. She would love to have her own group of close friends and, as a result, might come off as clingy and over-eager or a try hard. She is the tiniest bit insecure about Qiu being popular, but eventually she talks it out with him and actually explains what she's feeling!! Surprisingly mature and eloquent for a 10 year old! And she asks if he likes her or if he ever regretted befriending her or thought she was weird. Ken is so dramatic on a regular basis that her sincerity just seems chill in comparison LOL
ꕥ STEP TWO
At 14, Ken is still confident in herself and her abilities. Qiu and Tamarack are deep in the throes of self-discovery, but Ken is a bit of a late bloomer in that regard. Partially, this is because she is still exceeding in academics and has found the opportunity to actually be in a play! Her music teachers (band and choir) love her and she is easily one of the best performers in the class/section. In the junior high drama productions, though, she's only gotten major supporting roles and never the lead. Her goal in high school is to get the lead in the spring musical as often as she can. Since 5th grade, she's made a fair portion of friends, mainly with the theater and band kids. She isn't as popular as Qiu was, but she's kind of close! Qiu and Tamarack are still her two best friends, however. Her dearest companions. She's heavily invested in their struggles and does her best to give them advice despite her limited practical experience.
ꕥ STEP THREE
Ken finally has her identity crisis. She's gotten to the point where decisions are her own and she has to make a choice. However, she realizes that she never took the time for introspection and to realize what she wanted. She starts to get in her own feels about it, getting a lot more distracted, a little irritable, and closed-off. However, she also feels left behind by her friends since they already moved past this in their formative years. This leads her to isolate herself a little bit, which then makes her upset when she thinks that she helped the others through their problems and they aren't helping her, and she kinda needs someone to tell her to snap out of it. She's a lot more insecure and nervous, but tries to keep it behind the act she has since perfected. Ken is feeling the brunt of her anxiety now, often spending time in the woods alone and disassociating while fending off an existential crisis. She's also starting to burn out at this point and has a lot less motivation. At school, she's still as popular as she was before (perhaps even more so once Qiu is feeling themself again), but she feels its much more hollow. Acts and masks and so forth.. However, her relationship with her mom is much better than before!!
ꕥ STEP FOUR
Ken goes to college for (undeclared), theater, polisci, history w theater electives, has a mental breakdown and then eventually drops out. Decides to go back though and has like a bunch of credits that end up with her double majoring in theater and something business related. Manages to sweet talk the little old director of the historic theater in town (director of the whole thing not director of a performance lol) to give her a flexible internship to boost her resume and ends up somewhat reinvigorating community youth theater in Golden Grove. Her end goal is to move to the city and work at the Art House there, perhaps as an assistant to the producer or something. Also gets to run a summer program in Golden Grove for adolescent community theater. Maybe volunteers at the Junior High to help with those productions too.
(subject to change once the actual game comes out lol)

verdantrivers reblogged your post “i will not do theme park analysis of the jurassic...”
#do a theme park analysis of the jurassic world movies
so it’s worth noting I only ever saw the first jurassic world, and i thought it kind of sucked, so I never watched the rest of them.
my main reaction, aside from “i need seventy Margaritaville Isla Nublar” shirts, was that their whole park capacity was extremely low and the resort price of getting a single person in the park was going to be, like. $10,000 a day per person. so i think there’s a lot lacking in the sequels by way of the park conceit, but given the rest of the writing that’s not really surprising.
free range ride vehicles? lol. lmao. i mean i guess at $10K a day and negligible hourly capacity it becomes sort of a moot point, but i think the interesting thing about all of that is that the inevitable result is that this “theme park” is actually an extreme luxury resort. not “a luxury extreme resort”, but an “extreme luxury” resort. already the insanely wealthy are the only people who can afford to go, but you know what’s interesting about that? it’s kind of the same problem disneyland has right now.
DL has a capacity problem. they own a lot of land in anaheim but not enough for the number of people who want to go there. so for the past 20-30 years (i’m really approximating here), they’ve been jacking up ticket prices. supply and demand, right? if you only have so much capacity, then to drive disinterest, you increase the ticket prices. it hasn’t exactly worked; disney is so successful in being THE place that people want to go to and return to that there is definitely an amount of “we will pay anything” to go there. and now a one-day park hopper ticket for DL/DCA on a high capacity day are OVER TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS. just to get in the door! that doesn’t include parking ($30), or food, or souvenirs. or hotels. the highest DL pass (yeah yeah, it’s not a Pass anymore, whatever) is something like $1400.
and you know what? disney is not disincentivized for their parks to be seen as a “luxury” product. the disney parks are the most consistently profitable part of the entire disney company. and i can assure you that profit is not going back into the parks much; relatively no more than any other product arm gets funding. in fact, in mostly just gets bled dry. (RIP to all the great live entertainment that has suffered lately.)
so what happens when you drive prices up for decades, completely detached from actual value? (unrelated: did you know it costs like $30K annually to be a member of club 33?)
well, you have a new problem: an american “middle class” family is starting to realize that disney dream vacations are way out of their budget. WDW is up there too, not just DL, because the hotels and travel are expensive as hell also. but do you know what the number one predictor of a family taking their kids to disney parks is? if they went as a kid themselves. so what happens when you have a generation of people who couldn’t, who can’t, afford to go? well, we don’t know yet, and also disney doesn’t care, at least in DL, because their problem right now is they have too many people. they jacked up the prices and tried to limit capacity and all that’s done so far is get them sued by passholders! (i don’t imagine this suit will go anywhere, but i’m not a lawyer, so who knows.)
anyway, what does this all have to do with jurassic world? again, I didn’t see the latest two or three or whatever we’re on. so this really lacks significant nuance and is mostly a reaction to the post about how Dominion felt empty because it was suffering the same problems “as a park” that the movie suffers “as a franchise”. I.E. the park designers trying for New and Novel and Big and Exciting when really it’s all messy and empty and totally lacking the critical elements that make it substantial and interesting.
I do agree with that analysis as a franchise problem; I think it haunts almost every franchise, any kind of episodic storytelling-- the urge to up the narrative stakes by upping the risk. I think that’s a mistake though, because 1) you eventually run out of room narratively, if you’re continually successful, and 2) as you grow the scale of the story, you also start moving away from the intimacy of your characters. And it’s very, very, very difficult to maintain a consistently growing ensemble. the characters we see in dominion are flat and empty and the stakes are impersonal and vacuous and there’s no narrative tension anymore because we’re not invested. (theoretically, i say, having not seen it.)
But anyway.
so my understanding is that the company that owns the dinos is doing this in a bid to create Bigger and Better and Newer, regardless, of, you know, ethics and sustainability and safety and whatnot. and the tumblr post is saying that this is a critical part of theme parks, which I think is a little bit inaccurate, or at least enough to bother me, even if it isn’t wholly untrue. theme parks are, generally, always building new attractions, and safety and interest are all parts of what goes into them. advertising the biggest/the fastest is a part of that (and it can get you killed).
but you know who doesn’t have to do that? disneyland.
of course, disney the company wants to see marketing putting up advertisements and driving sales to the park and whatnot. but disneyland has too many guests. they don’t have to actually drive people to come here because their problem right now is they can’t stop people from coming!
so why would Jurassic World have to? people keep coming to see the dinosaurs, generation after generation, enough where they’re willing to pay X thousands of dollars per person PER DAY likely, to do so. at that point, just having dinosaurs really might be “enough” of an attraction. you don’t have to dig into it being a zoo or not a zoo (or nahtahzu), because it probably already succeeds financially at its most central directive, which is get paying customers in the door to see dinosaurs.
I don’t think Jurassic Park(s) are quite a 1:1 to Disneyland, and when it comes to the storytelling, I can assure you that the limited plot construction makes zero nuanced understandings to theme parks; it’s just the conceit. But I do think it’s interesting that there is this IRL luxury ticket problem, and in my estimation Jurassic World has to be a luxury resort of a kind. I doubt they’re trucking in guests with $50 tickets just to get capacity up; the park couldn’t sustain those numbers.
On the other hand-- maybe this is completely the wrong way of looking at it! Disney also just rolled out the Halcyon galactic starcruiser vacation, which is the star wars immersive experience, and they pitch it akin to their cruise line packages. (From my recollection, it’s all-inclusive sans souvenirs.)
Aaaaaand it’s potentially flopping. It’s $1200 a night, per person. (Roughly.) It’s moderately popular, but the general consensus seems to be that the prices are too expensive to maintain full interest. And it’s not because it’s bad (though, god knows they also suffered from a lot of design cutbacks), it’s just fucking expensive. From observation, after the initial months, reservations seem to have opened up a lot. However! Disney is also hinting that they want to build one in Anaheim, which also could be that it’s popular enough with the wealthier crowd.
And then Disney also just went and did this:
Tumblr media
The luxury market may be well and truly solid, and that wouldn’t surprise me, to be honest, since wealth inequality is greater than ever. (Interestingly, I feel like this offering from Disney strikes about right on par with my Jurassic World estimation-- it’s about $10,000 per “park”, or $5000 per day per person. Presumably including flights-- which I would assume the Isla Nublar ticketing would also.)
So! There’s two ways of looking at Jurassic World imo. I really do think they are a luxury vacation in all likelihood, and in that sense you are on a completely different playing field. People don’t buy $5000 gold-plated donuts because they like them, after all. And regardless of that, I don’t think you spend decades building and rebuilding dinosaur parks if they were 1) unpopular on their own, 2) people keep going despite the fact that people have died and the parks have imploded.
OR, and this is more in line with the original plot, it’s all capitalistic roulette. Maybe it’s so absurdly pricey that they can’t attract enough guests and they can’t feed the animals. Maybe they’re cutting corners on design to save money. It’s not impossible. But again, beyond the primary conceit-- it’s a theme park, and the attractions are inherently dangerous to the point of death, beyond mere injury-- the text doesn’t bear out much detail. (Again, I say, having not seen the newer ones.) So all we’re left with is a lot of talking around stuff, analytically.
On the other hand, there is this weird thing about theme parks: they already are inherently dangerous. The animatronics in pirates of the carribbean won’t bite your face off, but you can certainly get injured trying to climb out of the boats. And how much electronic/hydraulic force do you think is behind the motions in one single animatronic figure? Now multiply that to moving a false room that’s bigger than a literal boulder. I mean, hell. The yeti cracked its foundation, and now it’s turned off for esssentially ever. Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not dangerous! That’s kind of the whole magic of it!
Theme parks and amusement parks and even carny rides are all about perceived risk. There is inherent thrill from walking that line between safety and danger. These are novel problems but they’re not unheard of. I don’t think dinosaurs would really be that much different. It really all comes down to execution, which is different than design (guess who cuts the checks).
Jurassic Park/World is weird, but in some ways I don’t think it’s unrealistic. It really is a matter of hitting the right or wrong market in the right or wrong ways. And where the movie flopped, out of a sense of lacking coherency or relevance or whatever-- I completely think the park could succeed, as an attraction, commercially and profitably. New custom dinosaurs or not.

Thoughts of Random Randomness #77
The know the romance books I read (and listen to) are works of fiction from the mind of Melissa Brayden, Georgia Beers, Sigrid Defraimont and others.
Yet they reflect real feelings that most of us have felt at some point in our lives.
I sometimes scoff because so many of those feelings seem so far away from me.
Feelings I felt decades ago and in another life have all but been removed over the last 10 years.
All of which is accurate.
Still I can't help but swoon and sigh when parts of those books describe the sensations you feel when you have a crush on someone and you see them unexpectedly.
Every one of the passages in those books sprang to life in my mind tonight.
Out of the blue as I was working at Epcot at a Disney Vacation Club even there she was.
Walking quickly towards me, arms open and a smile on her face.
I felt an instant jolt of electricity and energy as soon as I saw her.
And the hug we shared....
Oh my. Oh my, my, my.
I couldn't hug her tight enough and never wanted to let go.
She made no move to end it either.
So it went on.
The way she smelled. The tightness of the embrace was intoxicating.
When it finally did end she introduced me to her mom, sister and father.
I mentioned that it was a pleasure to meet them and I've heard so much about them.
After she introduced me they said they knew of me as well.
Which made my head swim. My imagination running wild with why they would have known me.
As I talked about what she meant to me and what a wonderful person she was to her family, I'm sure they could see me gushing.
After another long hug off she went.
Looking absolutely stunning in a sweatshirt and exercise pants. 😍
I was on cloud 9 the rest of the night. I'm sure guests thought I was on something. Being super friendly and energetic.
I guess in reality I was on something, lol.
While I'm fairly confident that nothing will happen with this going beyond a crush.
It sure make me feel alive to even experience it again.
If only....

“Thoughts on Disney Vacation Club”
Disney Vacation Club is Disney’s version of time share yet it seems to be more flexible in my opinion. Timeshares are definitely not for the faint of heart. There’s many reasons why people join Disney Vacation Club. I know from personal experience with joining Disney Vacation Club is away to afford going to Disney World or other places on vacations which the contracts last about 50 years so it’s…

Salt Lake metropolis journey Guide - About This Amazing location
I know it can seem opposite to the concept of a holiday to make a plan, but it's nicely worth doing so for going to Disney. There's so much to see and do, and the time you save line can be invested viewing and doing more things, and appreciating the Disney particulars at your personal (non-standing) tempo. Just North from Lake Taupo on the M1 is Huka Falls and the globe well-known Huka Falls Lodge (for the novu-rich of the globe). Huka Falls by itself is free for all. Near the starting of the mighty Waikato river (NZ longest river) it's not the peak of the falls but the sheer quantity of drinking water that is forced through which is impressive, few people have absent over the falls and survived. Boat trips are now operate up to the base of the falls for these seeking a various viewpoint. I learned a lesson years in the past as a student in Berlin. I became buddies with my Lebanese neighbors--we were the exact same age, 20, yet our cultural backgrounds couldn't have been more different. They had two lovable small daughters, ages 4 and 2, and a 3rd on the way. The mother didn't speak German, and I didn't speak Arabic, so the father helped us communicate in damaged German. For the most component, we made do with gestures and drawing photos. We loved each other people' business. A good walk along a valley with many scorching pools, lakes, and close to the finish of the track the Warbrick thermal terrace - a multi colored silica terrace, probably the most vibrant terrace in Rotorua. Really worth a visit if you have already seen some thermal parks and want much more, or like a much more expansive tour, you can hyperlink with a boat tour. (see the gallery for some photos courtesy Waimangu's website). The pink and white terraces once existed in the region prior to the 1886 eruption. Price rates in The Gant, Aspen Meadows Vacation resort, Independence Sq. Lodge by Frias, St. Regis Vacation resort, Resort Jerome - A Rockresort, Sky Hotel - A Kimpton Hotel, Molly Gibson Lodge, L'auberge D Aspen, Hyatt Grand Aspen, The Chateaus by Frias, and the Complimentary Short-term Memberships to the Aspen Club and Spa are to your liking. Get your recollections in color by bringing a traveling to indonesia digital camera with you. Make sure to have your batteries billed! When bali indonesia get back from your journey, don't be lazy. Label and organizethosephotos in digital or printed form. It's hard to have nearby know-how when you're not local. You don't know where anything is; you don't know the nearby customs; you can't tell the tourist traps from nearby hang-outs. There are some methods you can access local know-how, though.

“So, I was hoping you’d wanna marry me too?”
Tumblr media
Request: Angel being super cheesy and proposing at Disney.
Pairing: Angel Reyes x female reader
Warnings: Mentions of Angel being slightly insecure but nothing really, mainly just fluff
Word count: 1.2K
Tumblr media
“Is it good?”
You nodded in response to Angel’s question, a smile on your lips as you enjoyed the bite of the Minnie Mouse cookie. Angel chuckled and reached over to brush a few crumbs from your lips, still finding you to be the most beautiful girl in the world. His eyes always held love and affection when they looked at you, and you were thankful that despite all the things you had been through with him, both personally and regarding the club, that love had never dwindled. You and he were just as enamored with each other as you had been on your first date.
What number this date was, you had no idea.
Angel took you out whenever he could. It didn’t have to be lavish and expensive, nor did it need to be far away. Just a simple quick lunch with Angel was enough for you and he tried his absolute best to always give it to you. You didn’t ask for much, so when you had asked if he would take you to Disney, Angel had done whatever he needed to do in order to be able to take you. He had picked up extra shifts at the yard back-to-back and had cleared it with Bish, the president signing off on him taking a few days to spend with you on a mini vacation.
All of them knew Angel’s plans, except you.
You were oblivious to the diamond engagement ring that was tucked away inside the pocket of his jeans and Angel absentmindedly ran his hand over it as he watched you continue eating your cookie.
“We can grab a couple more before we go so you can take them home.”
You grinned at the thought, Angel always the pleaser. With your cookie free hand, you reached across the table and placed yours on his. The Mayan instantly flipped his over to hold onto yours, a lopsided smile on his own lips.
“What?”
You shrugged, Angel seemingly always unconscious of how well he treated you.
“I’m just lucky to have you. You always spoil me.”
He chuckled and shook his head, that little bashful smile coming to his face the way it always did whenever you praised him.
“It’s just a cookie mami.”
Using your hand, you motioned to the theme park around you.
“A Minnie Mouse cookie, that you got me for breakfast, at an amusement park, that we’re at on vacation, because you busted your ass to be able to take me. It’s not just a cookie. You’re like…my own Prince Charming.”
You grinned at your own pun, nodding your head over to the Prince Eric cut out over by the bakery counter. Angel looked down, feeling heat bubbling up on his cheeks. He scolded you playfully.
“Stop. You’re making me all soft and shit.”
You both laughed, your foot kicking at his softly under the table.
“You’ve been soft. I just bring it out.”
Angel’s smile stayed, brown eyes sparkling as they looked at you.
“Yeah, you do.”
Finished with your cookie now, you drank the rest of your milk and then stood, Angel throwing your trash away for you before grabbing your hand and leaving the bakery. The sun was bright in the sky, a soft breeze that made the weather perfect to be outside. You both walked around hand in hand, taking in all the bright colors and laughing children. You watched as families walked around together, matching hates and backpacks, a dad holding his youngest child up on his shoulders so they could get a view of the giant castle up ahead. You poked at Angel’s side and then motioned to the dad and his child once you had his attention.
“That would be you.”
You laughed and so did he, but your joke hit differently for him. He could see it. Never before could he really see his future clearly, but now with you, it seemed like every day he had visions of your future together and building a family with you. He could see himself doing another one of these vacations, except with your children. He could see himself buying you another Minnie Mouse cookie, and buying one for his daughter as well. Holding his son in his arms while you all walked around, your daughter holding your hand. He could see it perfectly and cleared his throat as he pulled himself from his daydream.
“Yeah, that would be me.”
Wrapping your arms around his, you continued walking around until you got to an aquarium. You both headed in, eyes adjusting to the darkness as you looked around. It was huge, various aisle for you to go done and read about the fish that were housed there. The families went over to the brighter and more busy area, Angel and you going off to the darker and more secluded aisle. It had more reading to do, and you figured that was why people had avoided it.
The darkness and subtle movements from the swimming fish calmed you, but it had the opposite effect on Angel. Not because of the environment itself, but because he knew that now was his chance to pop the question. There was no one in the aisle with you, the area quiet and serene. With a sigh, he figured it was now or never.
“Hey, uh,”
Your turned to look at him with a smile, your face falling as you took in the look on his.
“What’s up?”
The Mayan fumbled with his words for a moment, the nervousness almost getting the best of him. It was your hand on his forearm, gentle and reassuring, that gave him the push.
“I know this is cheesy since we’re at Disney and it’s like yeah, of course, everyone does this here, but I just wanted to get away with you and have fun with you because I love you and- “
Your finger to his lips quieted him down and stopped his rambling.
“Angel, slow down. What are you even talking about?”
Taking a deep breath, he delved into his pocket and retrieved the small navy-blue velvet box. Your eyes widened and you looked up at him sharply, only to move your gaze down as he got down on one knee.
“I just really fuckin’ love you and I wanna be able to do stuff like this with you forever. I wanna bring you here and bring our kids here. I wanna get you cookies for breakfast and just…I wanna marry you.”
Angel opened the box and showed you the ring, a hopeful look on his face as he looked up at you.
“So, I was hoping you’d wanna marry me too?”
Your tummy filled with butterflies and you nodded enthusiastically, tears prickling your eyes as happiness consumed you.
“Of course, I will.”
Angel blew out a breath and stood as you wrapped your arms around his neck. He hugged you to him tightly, both of you embracing affectionately. Finally separating, he pulled the ring from the box and slipped it onto your finger perfectly. Locking eyes, you grinned and shared a quick kiss, looking over to the side as movement caught your eyes. There stood an elderly couple, both smiling warmly as they looked at you and Angel.
“Congratulations.”

Your asks/posts about disney have been showing up and i have a question, are you a member or have you ever stepped foot inside the famous Club 33? I have seen tiktoks about people having connections to go and they emd up taking napkins and whatever they can while in there
My uncle has been on the waiting list for 10 years if that tells you anything.
I personally think it’s overrated. It used to be chic because it was the only place you could buy alcohol at Disneyland. Then it was the only place you could buy hard-liquor drinks. Now it’s just a novelty. A flashy way of showing you spent thousands of dollars to walk in a tiny room, order a drink, see some archival pieces, and look over New Orleans Square.
Or worse like you’ve seen, it’s now a magnet for clout-chasers that want to show, “a sneak-peak” to gain views and followers. Like, no thank you.
You know that saying real wealth is known by the real wealthy? It’s like that. It used to be the way the wealthy or celebrities garnished their visit, but now it’s sullied or dulled by those who have fleeting wealth. I used to work with the team that organized the annual vacation of oil tycoons and a middle eastern prince and they spared bo expense but Club 33 was never on their radar of luxury or prestige.

A Pick-Me-Up
Tumblr media
“Oikawa-kun!”
Young girls flooded towards the Aoba Johsai captain, Oikawa Tooru, who greeted them with a flirtatious smile.
You rolled your eyes at the scene, as did the rest of the team. Everyone was used to the gaggle of girls surrounding Oikawa after every game, but that didn’t mean it got any less annoying each time.
Ever since you became the team’s manager during first-year, you noticed that none of the other boys received the same treatment that Oikawa did from the crowd. I mean, all of them were just as good looking as him, if not more in your opinion (cough, cough Iwaizumi…lol). So you decided to make goodie bags for the team to let them know that they were just as important in your eyes. And by your third-year as manager, it had just become a habit for you to make them for the team after each game.
That is, sans Oikawa. He always received tons of gifts from his adoring fans; you didn’t need to add to his already huge ego.
Grabbing the bag beside you, filled with small goodie bags, you waited until all of the players were done stretching before handing them out. The third years and second years reacted to your gifts with a thankful smile, while chuckling at their two kouhai’s, who took their bags with wide eyes.
The older boys remembered the similar way they had reacted, the first time you gave them out.
After you made your round, you noticed two bags left. Looking around, you tried to figure out who you missed. Just then, your eyes locked onto the gym entrance.
“Iwa-chan,” you called to the boy who was walking back into the gymnasium floor. He had left to go the the bathroom and so, was the only one who hadn’t gotten their bag yet.
You pushed the small bag of goodies into his hand with a playful wink.
“You know you don’t have to do this every time? The whole team adores you regardless.” he said, shaking his head with a smile.
“And like I always tell you, this is purely for selfish reasons. For all you know, I could be putting small amounts of poison in them, using you all as my test subjects to find out the amount of poison the human body can withstand before succumbing to death.” you shrugged, a small laugh following your words.
“Or maybe we should put all the poison into one cookie and force Oikawa to eat it.” Takahiro suggested from your side.
“That would be a waste of a good cookie.” You reasoned.
Iwaizumi nodded in agreement. “Just pouring the poison down his throat would be faster.”
You both shared a grin at his plan.
“And that’s why you’re my favorite, Hajime.” you reminded him.
“Oye, I thought I was (Y/N)-chan’s favorite.” Oikawa’s voice came from behind.
“You wish.” you replied straightly.
He rested an arm around your shoulder, unaffected by your answer, while you looked at him with a grimace.
“Trashykawa, get away from (Y/N)-chan.” Iwaizumi told him.
Oikawa ignored him, instead staring at the small bag in his friend’s hand with a pout.
“(Y/N)-chan, why do you never give me one of your goodie bags? You give everyone else one.” he whined, bringing his face closer to yours.
“I’m sure you get enough things from your fans, Oikawa-san.” you replied, pushing his face away with your hand.
“Iwa-chan, give me some of yours. I want to try some of (Y/N)-chan’s cookies too.”
“Don’t call me that!”
The captain started to pester the second-year, dramatically pouting and whining. You could see Iwaizumi’s hand itching for a ball to pelt him with.
“Iwa-chan, do you want me to grab you a ball?” you asked with a smile.
Oikawa was momentarily distracted from his pestering, hearing Iwaizumi’s nickname come from your lips.
“Hey why don’t you get mad when (Y/N)-chan calls you that?”
Iwaizumi just rolled his eyes.
“And you, (Y/N)-chan!” he exclaimed, directing his frown to you. “Why do you always call me Oikawa-san?”
“Isn’t that your name?” you asked, innocently.
“You know what I meant! You call everyone else by their first name or nickname and yet for the past three years we’ve know each other, you still call me so formally!”
You looked at Iwaizumi with a look, clearly done with Oikawa’s whining.
He sighed, grabbing ahold the back of Oikawa’s jersey and dragging the whining boy away from you.

The Aoba Johsai volleyball team was among one of the powerhouses in the Miyagi prefecture. But that didn’t mean they didn’t lose the occasional set every now and then. Especially against another powerhouse like Shiratorizawa. And the one who was the most upset about their loss was none other than the team captain.
Noticing he was missing from the rest of the group, you volunteered to go look for him. You ended up finding him sitting down at the very end of the bleachers with his head down in defeat.
Sighing, you walked over to him. He didn’t notice you were next to him, until he felt something drop into his lap.
It was one of your goodie bags.
“Is this for me?” he asked, surprised. His voice sounded a little hoarse, but you chose not to point it out.
“Yeah. I figured you needed a pick-me-up.” you replied, giving him a soft smile.
“Did you know we were going to lose?” he questioned, his head still down. “Or did someone on the team not want theirs?”
“No, everyone got theirs. That’s yours. I made it for you.”
Your smile grew as you watched his ears suddenly turn bright red.
“But you’ve never given me one before. Why did you make one for me this time?”
“I always made one for you, actually.” you revealed.
Oikawa looked up, his eyes trying to figure out whether you were lying or not.
“I just never gave it to you because it seemed like you never needed it. But seeing your state five minutes ago, it seemed like today was the day I needed to give you one.”
“So this is a pity bag?” he asked, frowning.
You shrugged at his question, before standing up. You held out a hand to him, with a grin.
“Come on, Oikawa-chan.” You giggled seeing his bewildered expression, hearing his name. “Everyone is waiting for us.”
_________________
Ever since you gave Oikawa a goodie bag, you noticed some small changes. He seemed a little bit shy around you. Or as shy as a guy like him could be. He still did not understand the concept of personal space most of the time, and still whined about your so called ‘preferential treatment’ of the rest of the team. But you noticed his ears turn red more often when you were around him, and caught him staring at you during practice. It would normally end up with him being hit with a volleyball by Iwaizumi, who yelled at him to pay attention to the practice.
You, along with the rest of the team, also noticed that his fan club number had significantly decreased, based on the past few games. He never went over to them anymore, choosing to stay with the rest of his team after the match ended.
Even Iwaizumi was surprised by the change in his friend. But he seemed to understand why, once you had told him what happened after the Shiratorizawa game. When you asked him about it, he just gave you a knowing smile and walked away, leaving you utterly confused.
“(Y/N)-chan, I didn’t get anything today either. So I think I need a goodie bag too!” Oikawa bounded towards you, with a smile on his face.
He sure didn’t look like someone who was suddenly abandoned by his fangirls. But you decided to give him one, nevertheless.
His face brightened at the bag you put in his hands, opening it quickly to munch on the contents inside. After he was done, he started to frown.
“Why, what’s wrong? Do they not taste good?” you asked, worried you somehow messed up the recipe this time.
“No, it’s good. But I don’t think a goodie bag will be able to cheer me up this time.”
“Oikawa, we won the match today.” you deadpanned.
“Yes, but the other team’s spiker reminded me of Ushijima and that time we lost.” he said, as if it should’ve been obvious to you.
You saw Iwaizumi look at him weirdly from the corner of your eye. Which was understandable, since the spiker looked nothing like Ushijima. Maybe if you were looking at them far, far away in a pitch black room; you could’ve maybe seen the resemblance, you thought.
“What will then?” you asked, knowing he was going somewhere with this. Where though, you didn’t know.
“A date?” he said, hesitantly. Oikawa’s hopeful eyes stared back at yours.
You paused for a second, surprised at his suggestion. You noticed his ears had turned red again, making you smile.
The rest of team looked at the two of you with interest, eating from their goodie bags like it was popcorn.
“Sure.” you finally said.
Your audience was surprised by your reply, but not as surprised as Oikawa himself was.
“Wait, what? Really?” His eyes wide in surprise at your agreement.
You raised your brow at his reaction. “Did you want me to say no?”
“No, no!” he shook his head fervently. “I just thought that you didn’t like me that much.”
“I’m starting to think Iwa-chan’s nicknames for you are a good fit.” you laughed, seeing his shy self make a reappearance. “I didn’t know you were this oblivious Toru-chan.”
The sound of his first name made him light up. His face reminded you of a child being told they were going to Disney for vacation.
“Why are you so happy?” you asked him, a smile gracing your lips.
“You called me Toru.” he exclaimed, hugging himself in joy.
You made a note to call him by his first name more often, especially if this was the way he would react.
“That’s your name isn’t it?”
Your words reminded him of a similar conversation a few games back.
“Can you say my name again?”
Laughing, you flicked his forehead before walking away. He trailed behind you like a duckling, pestering you to call him by his first name again.

“Ah, Ken-chan!”
You bounded over to the second-year boy who always had an angry glare etched into his face. Except this time, he was looking at you with a shy expression.
Oikawa and Iwaizumi looked at the scene with amusement in their eyes.
“Only she would be able to get our Mad Dog-chan to smile like that.” Oikawa grinned proudly.
Kyotani gave you a small smile when you handed him the goodie bag. You patted his head, before resuming handing out the rest.
When you returned to the duo, Oikawa snaked an arm around your waist to pull you closer to him. He pecked your cheek, smiling when you blushed at the display of affection.
Iwaizumi and the other boys reacted with a look of disgust on their face.
Oikawa was about to kiss you again, to the team’s dismay, when you pushed his face away. Ignoring his whine, you quickly ran over to Coach Irihata, who had called your name.
“She’s good for you.”
The Aoba Johsai captain nodded at Iwaizumi’s words, a smile still on his lips while he watched you talk to the coaches.
Surprisingly, you both made a good couple. No one thought it would last, with Oikawa known for being a big flirt. Everyone believed you would end up breaking up with him. But after his first date with you, he had completely stopped any interactions with his fan club, having only eyes for you.
But even with his obvious commitment towards you, the team was still protective of you. They reminded him time and time again that they would side with you, whether it be if you were in a fight or worst case scenario, broke up.
“Hurt her and you’ll die, Shittykawa.” Iwaizumi said.
“Yeah, yeah I got your threat.” Oikawa rolled his eyes.
“No, it’s not a threat Oikawa. It’s a warning.” Iwaizumi turned serious.
“Huh?”
“I really think the rest of the team will kill you if you make her cry.” The boys near them nodded unconsciously to Iwaizumi’s statement. “I guarantee Kentaro definitely will, if you hurt his beloved senpai.”
Oikawa gulped at the warning, his face paling. “Well, I have no intention of hurting her.” he confirmed.
“Good.” You said, coming up from behind them after you had finished talking to the coaches. “But you don’t have to worry. If he hurts me, I’ll be the one killing him.”  You grinned at the fear in his widening eyes.
Iwaizumi nodded along, agreeing with you.
“But wait, shouldn’t I be getting ‘the talk’ from y’all too? He is your captain and friend after all.”
“No, we strongly encourage you to make him cry (Y/N)-chan. What doesn’t kill him will make him stronger.”
Oikawa huffed at his friend’s advice while you laughed.
“And if you do actually end up killing him, we’ll help you bury the evidence.”
“HEY!”

R A F E
( still inspired after @drewsephsmiles ‘s disney post, which you can find here)
this is part 2/2, first part is disney with jj, which you can find here. requested (partially).
(incase my cast member jumps out (again) in this post, lemme do a quick lil thing: MK = magic kingdom, FOF = festival of fantasy, HEA = happily ever after)
Tumblr media
rafe would go to disney every year with his family
so he really didn’t get the hype anymore/didn’t get excited
but he was allowed to bring you so he was at least happy to not have to spend it with sarah, ward and rose
for the past few years he had skipped out on most of the park stuff unless it was epcot or dinner plans
and would just spend his time at the pool, or the golf course
he also low key liked the water parks but that’s because they  were less themed then everything else
but when he asked you to come his face lit up a bit because of how excited you got
you stayed over his house the night before your flight and you kept sneaking in to his room to talk about how you couldn’t sleep because you were so excited
and when you all were getting ready to leave he gave you a pair of ears and a custom magic band
you almost cried
you wear your ears the whole plane ride
literally matching with a 5 year old a few rows ahead of you
ward said that you two could go right to the parks and they would take care of the luggage
rafe would ask you where you wanted to go and you would think back to the countless videos you had watched trying to get an understanding for disney
“the kingdom?” you would say hesitant
you’re staying at the grand flo so you jump on the monorail quick and basically drag him into the park
you’re saying hi to EVERYONE that works there the monorail driver? the touch point park greeters? the custodial cast members? EVERYONE
rafe brings you to the front merchandise stand and gets you a ‘my first visit button’
as you walk in your eyes are so wide, trying to take it all in
“WE CAN MEET MICKEY AT TOWN SQUARE LETS GO!!!”
he would HATE meeting characters
because it just reminds him of ward making him do it as a kid with sarah
but he would smile so wide seeing you run up to mickey and throw your arms around him
you would get so excited when mickey points out your first visit button, talking about how this was the first stop you made
mickey would point to rafe who was trying to stay behind the photopass person “yeah, that’s my boyfriend, he brought me here” mickey would draw a heart and you would smile, waving rafe over
he would finally come over after letting out a deep breath
and the photopass person would get a photo of him hugging mickey
that height difference would be hysterical..
and then you would get really cute pictures of the three of you
as you walk out of meeting mickey, the parade would be coming down main street
you would beg him to watch festival of fantasy, to which he agrees
somehow you manage to find an open spot, you stand in front with rafe’s arms around you
your eyes are so wide as the parade is happening, waving to all the princesses, princes and characters
you can hear rafe mumbling the songs behind you
ward 100% gets the extra fast passes from the vacation club so you don’t have to wait on any lines
rafe tells you he secretly hates space mountain because he feels like he’s too tall for it, he has to like jam his feet in it, and he feels like his head is going to get cut off by one of the beams
but you make him ride it twice anyway
you force him to ride the tea cups and try to get a cute picture on it and you’re just beaming the whole time
for the first time in a really long time rafe is smiling all through out disney because of how good of a time you seem to be having
then you head over to big thunder where he warns you that you’re gonna fly around the cart because the bar isn’t gonna go as low as it should for you because he’s sitting there with you
and you slide back and forth pressing in to him and pressing in to the side of the cart with a huge grin
THE REST OF YOUR DAY AT MK IS BELOW THE CUT
“can we go on splash mountain?”
“okay but i’m ducking to avoid the splash”
“will you tell me when to duck i don’t wanna get too wet”
he would tell you so you would still take your picture and have it be cute but also avoid the splash for the most part
then he would walk you back to liberty square to ride haunted mansion
you thought it was cute and you enjoyed the air conditioning but you really liked the rollercoasters
you liked the different effects they used through out the whole thing
you rode pirates after and it was a lot like haunted mansion to you, thought it was cute but you wanted to go on a rollercoaster again
ward, rose and sarah met up with you after all of that
you had tickets to one of the after hours events (let’s go with villains after hours)
everyone was saying happy first visit to you which just made your smile even wider
literally the whole day you were hand in hand with rafe
he literally thought you were a giant child running around but he loved watching you get so excited about everything
you laughed a literally every joke on jungle cruise and would look at rafe like he was weird for not laughing, too
then you watched happily ever after with rafe
your eyes were on the fireworks the whole time, except for when you looked to ward and thanked him for letting you come along
then looking to rafe with teary eyes and thanking him for bringing you
you would hug on to him super tight and point at the different fireworks and castle projections that caught your eye
“HAVE YOU EVER SEEN SUCH A BEAUTIFUL FIREWORK SHOW?!”
you were basically bouncing in place once it was over
and despite his family being around you, you kissed him, especially after the firework show
but you kissed him a few times during the show, too
since space mountain had a special event overlay you would drag him on it again
rafe only pretended to fight you, because he just wanted to see you smile
you rode every ride that was open
he tried to let you win buzz lightyear but he knew all the good spots to hit
rafe would literally crush your score, him getting galactic hero and you getting space cadet
by the end of the night you were exhausted
after the villains parade (that you watched sitting on rafe’s lap bc you were exhausted) rafe brought you into the emporium
you insisted you didn’t want anything
rafe didn’t care
pointing things out to you
you ended up leaving with a hat, sweatshirt, t-shirt (that you demanded you both share) and a mickey stuffed animal
rafe carried you out on his back
when you got into the room you nearly passed out on the spot
cuddling your new mickey stuffed animal, and then thanking him over and over for him to bring you
“so where are we going tomorrow? i can’t wait to see all the magic”

Summary: “Promise you’ll stay my best friend? We won’t get torn apart by misunderstandings and friend drama and pettiness like all those dumb high school movies?”
(Don’t miss some comments at the end of this post!)
______________________________
Middle school was always the weirdest time in pretty much every person’s life and honestly, Virgil’s and Roman’s experiences weren’t any different when it came to that. The two of them were fish out of water, totally out of their element, and struggling in a social space where no one around them fit in either. They managed to get through it fine due to having each other though.
Virgil Knight and Roman Prince were strange friends. The two of them seemed like they’d known each other forever but really, they had only met about halfway through 7th grade. Despite what everyone thought, purely based off of their personalities, they got along remarkably well. The two contrasted in the starkest of ways and yet somehow, they also made complete sense.
Roman was passionate and extroverted while Virgil tended to stick to the sidelines, barely interacting with the people around him. Roman and Virgil both loved the arts though.
While Roman tended to look on the more hopeful, and perhaps idealistic, side of things, Virgil would counter with caution of equal measure. Both of them balanced each other’s actions well enough to make them not too something too stupid.
Neither of them liked awkward social situations, though Virgil was often the one who caused that in his case.
Both loved Disney, Roman being much more into the princesses and romance, Virgil with the more angsty movies.
Some people got that they clicked, others didn’t. Either way, the two of them really didn’t hear much of it. They were just friends and that was that, it was all that really mattered, especially as they were lying on Virgil’s bed one summer afternoon after their last year of middle school, the next year bringing about the prospect of high school, a supposedly transformative experience in the eyes of a middle schooler.
Virgil sighed out, thinking for a moment. “Man, can you believe it? We’re going to be going to high school in a month and a half,” he commented, seeing Roman nod from the corner of his eye.
“Isn’t it amazing? It’s going to be great, I can’t wait to see if I got into theater!” Roman squealed out, clearly more excited out of the two of them for what was to come. “You’ll come to my shows yeah? I need my support team after all!”
With a snort, Virgil punched Roman’s shoulder. “What kind of a stupid question is that? Of course I’m going to go to your shows, you dodo brain. You must’ve lost your mind or something if you think I wouldn’t. Even if you are a pain in my butt.”
Virgil only smirked as Roman gasped in a dramatic tone, sitting up with a hand held to his chest.
“After all these months of friendship and you wound me?” Roman asked, trying his best to sound offended. Virgil did his very best to look back with an unimpressed expression but his lip quivered slightly and the two were laughing in an instant.
“You planning on joining any clubs?” Virgil asked.
“I’m not sure, it depends on what they have really! What about you?” Roman told him, shrugging.
“Eh, not really, they wouldn’t be my thing.”
Roman nodded to that and hummed. “Yeah, you’re right. Can’t hurt though if you do decide to!”
After some more conversations about classes and even plans for the current moment in terms of summer vacation, Virgil sat up after a while too and leaned his head against Roman’s shoulder. “Promise you’ll stay my best friend? We won’t get torn apart by misunderstandings and friend drama and pettiness like all those dumb high school movies?”
“Or like Heathers!”
Virgil snorted. “Or like Heathers, neither of us are allowed to become popular and stab the other in the back,” he added to Roman’s point.
“Promise, you have my word as a brave and noble prince!” Roman laughed as he bowed slightly but still with as much dramatic flair as he was known for.
With a nod, Virgil leaned against Roman more, letting silence wash over them for a moment.
“Then it’s a promise.”
