Introducing: Wolf in Shepherd's Clothing

CHAPTER: 1 of 3 STATUS: alpha review (script), thumbnailing (pages), sketches (character/set design) GENRE: fantasy, adventure WORLD: Urathla

Lahar is a shepherd who lives in the foothills outside of a nearby city. With their memory loss, it's hard to say if they've seen anything that's been causing the disappearing livestock of late. Unfortunately for them, they're the harbinger of a brand new magic, and a brand new curse.

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the intro post for my upcoming webcomic, Wolf in Shepherd's Clothing. Some of you may already know of its existence, and what inspires it.

Originally, this story was intended to be much shorter and based in real life Mesopotamia, or as much as I could manage, but as I continued developing the story, I realized that it was adopting more and more fantastical elements I would want to exercise full worldbuilding over, rather than rely on 'historical accuracy'. Thus it joined Urathla, a world I had created for my Arthurian legend-inspired novel, much for the same reasons.

The first chapter reckons with the shepherd and their family as they navigate regular life and regular strife, before coming to a cliffhanger I hope everyone will enjoy. The shepherd is Lahar, and their siblings are Halba, Uzalla, Myri, and Ensy. Masdaria is the four older childrens' stepmother, and Ensy's blood mother- with another baby on the way.

More details about these characters will come as soon as I can manage!

I will be posting all the pages FOR FREE on bsky, Ko-fi, and Tumblr, and hopefully if I can manage to make it work, my own website. I am not intending to post on X/Twitter or TikTok, but you're welcome to talk about it there. I may eventually share it on Webtoon or Tapas, but I'm a bit uncertain since this will NOT be a webtoon format- it will follow a page-by-page webcomic format.

The comic will be portrayed in grayscale, with possible 'pop' colors in chapters 2 and 3, like red or blue. This is still my own project, after all, and I'm going to be using that fact to help me control value and composition rather than using color as a crutch.

Further, my art style will almost certainly shift around as I continue drawing this story, and that is more or less intentional. I'm sorry to those who seek more consistent styles, but as an artist I am always learning and growing.

A pay-what-you-want (but ultimately free) HD PDF version will be available when the first chapter is completed, and a somewhat more expensive (around 3-5 USD) 'ultimate' version will also be available for those that are interested.

(Difference there being that the 'ultimate' edition will include a fancier, illustrated colored cover, no watermark across the pages, plus some other goodies like maps if I can manage to squeeze them in!)

Additionally, paid posts will be available on Ko-fi for monthly members. Namely, character and set design notes, early access to maps, and possibly even annotated pages if there's interest. I may also decide to color specific pages or panels, some of which may come to community vote if there's enough interest in that!

All the characters will receive completely free 'intro' pieces, plus simple turnarounds for those that want to make fanart. Paid posts will include sketches and more detailed turnarounds, plus my ramblings about their specific designs.

If there's enough interest, I may also combine these design notes into a PDF on the shop, but that's a later decision.

So folks, I hope everyone's doing well. Here's a little blog update, I suppose.

I'm still deep deep deep in the bg3 obsession, it doesn't seem like it'll stop anytime soon. I think I will repost Myriam's adventures here too, once I'm done archiving Ross's threads. We're having a bit of a struggle deciding who to romance but that's nothing a little poll wouldn't help it. Hey, maybe you don't have all the context unless you've read the threads already, but out of these four that already seem to be on a promising path to something more, who would you romance if you were me playing with Myri?

Here's the thing. I'm afraid that since I can't stop won't stop playing bg3, I will ask for your sims, you'll send them, and then...I will not play it. Or not as fast as I'd like, and it would take ages to finish and I would be miserable, probably.

Or I will ask you for sims, you'll send them...and I will play because I'll have them. You know, I'll be motivated and excited to do this "show" for you. Also, my second and third BC, I literally couldn't stop playing it. I think I did August and Axel's in a week or so, maybe two, it was my summer holiday and I spent the whole day, morning to late at night, just playing the BC, because once you get into it, it's addictive. Or at least that's how it was for me the two times. We're not gonna talk about the first one, but that one was scary and not too enjoyable for reasons.

So. I guess what I'm trying to say, anyone up for a Sims 3 bachelor challenge? Let's do a bit of a pre-registration type of thing, say something, anything, send an ask or whatnot, if you'd be interested.

Once I announce it "officially", I'm thinking I could already add you to the list. It's just that obviously rn you don't know the sim requirements and all yet, there's no deadline, please don't make a sim for me yet...there will be time for that, I'm just seeing if there's interest at all. I guess. Idk. Rambling. TLDR anyone up for a sims 3 bachelor challenge? 😂

so i have multiple ideas for how i met the doctor! one of them is pretty simple, kind of how like nine met rose with the 'run' thing. the city that they're in is under attack- i keep imagining cybermen- and maybe they're a straggler and start running late and they full-body slam into the doctor but he manages to keep both of them standing up with his hands on their arms and when they both look back, there's cybermen approaching, so the doctor takes their hand and runs.

i have one other idea that's even more in depth, but it's an isekai-like and i'm not sure people wanna hear me ramble about that for ages 🤣 (if you do pls tell me,,,,)

titus on the other hand, he gets his own oc! lucia vorenus, the younger sister to his brother in the legion. lucia shows up to the celebration vorenus and his wife are hosting for starting their business. i haven't thought about past that though lol

The Fool: Where did Rook's journey begin? What were they doing before joining the Veilguard?

This might sound a bit boring, but Myri is a very canon compliant Mourn Watch Rook- everything in the vanilla backstory text is true for her as well. To bridge the gap though between that and the veilguard for her- I think she was entirely lost before running into Varric. She grew up pretty isolated and in an almost idyllic situation for an elven mage, and so while she understands how dangerous the 'real world' is, she's still very taken aback by seeing it for herself. The second she leaves Nevarra and no longer has the shield of being a mortalitasi, she probably spends a lot of nights cold and hungry and trying to find safe lodging. (that being said, I also don't think that the mourn watch kicked her to the curb with nothing to go off of- I just think Myri is prone to being far too open and kind in a way that backfires for her. Its just not her nature to be suspicious of people and have her hackles up all the time.)

The Lovers: Who is your Rook's most significant relationship within the Veilguard? How do they help Rook feel seen and understood?

Again, potentially a boring answer, but it is Neve. I think a large part of it is that a) Neve is very protective of her but not in a patronizing way, and b) Neve is entirely content to just sit in silence or wordlessly do things to help. Which is to say like, as friendly and as outgoing as Myri can be, at the end of the day she is still a weird little death scholar and mortician. I think her favorite part of her day is when she gets to unwind and read quietly, and I think, especially early on, Neve and her spent a lot of time together that way. Theres a lot of other small scenes in Veilguard too to that point- towards the end of the game where Neve cuts her off and is like "hey. don't worry about this, I have this handled. you need to go relax". idk I cannot word things for the life of me BUT its just a very quiet and loving moment that kind of sums them up- Neve will always see right through Myri, know exactly what her vices & vulnerabilities are, and then do everything she can to either protect or help her, without talking down to her or making a fuss of it. (as an aside because I am already rambling- theres also a line for trans rooks with Neve where they say something to the effect of 'I can be myself around you'. Which says a lot- idk the idea that Myri feels so wholeheartedly accepted and loved that she can let down her walls around Neve.... 🥺)

I've been cleaning up and finishing a lot of old ficlets, drabbles, etc. from when I was super active in the Free! fandom and uploading stuff to AO3 to have it all archived in one place (and to share with non-Tumblr people lol). I've got quite a bit yet to do.

But pretty much all of that stuff is from before season 3 was a thing and before I'd seen the High Speed! movie, so none of it incorporates any "new" characters from them.

I feel like I should rectify this at some point once I get all the old stuff and WIPs finished and posted (which, admittedly, may take a while yet).

I think that means I need to rewatch the High Speed! movie and season 3 again, though (and try to track down an English sub of the Road to the World- The Dream movie...). Great homework for the 4th of July weekend, I guess. 😅

Personal source of tea hahaha that cracked me up. You seem very content on here, so I guess staying out of it is really the best option haha. I mean I have this blog for like seven years now and it is the only thing that keeps me sane, keeping everything a bit at arms length. Doing it for me and stuff. Alistair rambled, some stupid joke about the blight bringing people together, and she didn’t interrupt. It gave him a few more seconds to study the curious tilt of her head, the way her cheeks plumped into a dizzying smile as she watched his hands move, and the nervous bubble of laughter as she told him yes, she was a mage but hopefully not as much of an ass as the last. And it was he who felt truly dizzy when she offered her hand and her name - Myriani.

before i start, this site is so helpful. it has a collection of literally every piece of non-battle dialogue in the game (the wiki has the battle dialogue so it's pretty easy to find that too) and i have referenced it a LOT since i found it when i didn't want to play through the whole game for screenshots. almost every image in here is from it.

alright, ready, set, ramble time!

first, before we get into the detail: both of them, after losing someone they loved, get really depressed for a while, and after they wake up, they're really angry for a bit until they calm down and reveal themselves to be relatively reasonable people. cool. similar structure, but not strong enough to justify all of your yelling, myri. well, that's not all.

it's kel who gets them both up. it's kel who wants nothing more than to help and tries his best to do so. it's kel who does what he thinks is what he needs to do to make things better.

but that's not all!! the dialogue in kel's story (plus some other bits from faraway) mirrors spaceboy's words REALLY closely.

sound familiar?

and then, the unstoppable force that is kel gets him out of bed

and things start to go south

and then they keep getting more enraged

but eventually, one way or another, they calm down.

and they do get at least somewhat better

even though they're still lost without their loved ones

it fits so closely together that if the graveyard conversation with kel had already happened, i would think that it was sunny's mind referencing it.

alright, ramble over! hope you enjoyed

also i started replaying omori recently (long story but i lost my save files) and spaceboy's hair changes color after you beat him and i think it's funny
