Mystery Mansion (1984) came out the same year as Black Morn Manor — there must have been something in the air compelling board game designers to make tile-based house exploration games. Mystery Mansion isn’t an RPG, nor does it have any real connection to RPGs, but I had it as a kid, adored it, and the components are extremely cool and at least RPG-adjacent. So here we are.
Like Black Morn Manor, players build the mansion as they go, adding tiles as they search for treasure chests (and the keys to open them). The object of the game is disappointingly monster-less: just get the treasure chest with the real treasure out of the mansion and you win. You can only open the chests outside, though, so there is a lot of moving back and forth. It isn’t great.
What is great are the room tiles, all of which feature clean art that is super evocative of murder mysteries or perhaps older horror films. There are eight of each type: basement, first- and second-floor rooms. The basement tiles are flat, but the first floor rooms are folded up into little half-inch orange boxes, while the second floor rooms are about an inch deep, so there is a nice sense of height. Different floors are connected by little plastic staircases; there are also little plastic trap doors that mark secret passages, and little plastic chests for the treasures (which are little cardboard chits you stick inside). The components are absolutely delightful; its a shame the rest of the game isn’t quite so much.

### The Winchester Mystery House: An Architectural Enigma
The Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, California, remains one of America’s most enigmatic and captivating landmarks, a testament to Sarah Winchester’s eccentric vision and haunted beliefs. Widow of William Wirt Winchester, the heir to the Winchester Repeating Arms Company, Sarah Winchester embarked on a ceaseless construction project that spanned 38 years, driven by an unorthodox mission to appease the spirits she believed were victims of her husband's invention: the Winchester rifle.
Sarah Winchester's life was marred by tragedy. Following the death of her infant daughter from marasmus and her husband's untimely demise from tuberculosis, she turned to a spiritualist for guidance. It was purportedly this medium who informed her that she was cursed by the vengeful spirits of those slain by Winchester rifles and that the only way to avoid their wrath was to build a house that would confuse and contain them. Thus began the construction of what would become known as the Winchester Mystery House, a sprawling 24,000 square feet mansion comprised of peculiar and whimsical architectural elements.
The mansion's design is a labyrinthine wonder. Staircases ascend to ceilings, doors open to solid walls, and windows overlook interior rooms. The house contains 160 rooms, 10,000 windows, 2,000 doors, 52 skylights, 47 stairways, 47 fireplaces, 17 chimneys, 13 bathrooms, and 6 kitchens. Many of these features serve no practical purpose other than to bewilder. For instance, the infamous "Door to Nowhere" opens to a sheer drop from the second floor, a prime example of Sarah Winchester's effort to mislead and perplex any spectral inhabitants.
Sarah Winchester's architectural improvisation was underpinned by a combination of superstition, wealth, and an unending pursuit of atonement. The number 13 is a recurring motif throughout the house, believed to have spiritual significance. The chandeliers, windows, and even drain covers feature this motif, symbolizing Sarah’s deep commitment to her esoteric beliefs.
Despite the erratic and often illogical design, the Winchester Mystery House holds considerable historical and cultural significance. Its construction showcases Victorian craftsmanship and an era of newfound prosperity in post-Gold Rush California. Today, the mansion is a popular tourist attraction, drawing visitors intrigued by its paranormal lore and architectural curiosities.
The Winchester Mystery House exemplifies how personal grief and guilt can manifest in extraordinary ways. Sarah Winchester's attempt to cope with her tragic losses resulted in one of the most bizarre and fascinating architectural endeavors in history. The mansion stands as both a monument to human eccentricity and a testament to the lengths one might go to find solace from inner turmoil.

In the Addams Family game, Morticia is the writer, Wednesday has to do schoolwork, and Gomez… well, Gomez is a businessman more akin to Latin American drug cartel bosses and mob bosses. I don't know what to make of that, but I haven't stopped making them all work in the writing room and seriously, I'm going to go bankrupt with this fucking game. Oh and Wednesday has ponytails when she's doing schoolwork, she so cute 🖤🖤

Sherlock Holmes: The Mystery of the Mummy
Frogwares, a dual studio in Ukraine and Ireland, came to be in the year 2000, and finally released a complete project in 2002. That game would be the first in their vast and long running Sherlock Holmes series, known as The Mystery of the Mummy. It would be what made them names in the European adventure game scene, eventually breaking through to significant attention from more mainstream outlets and audiences with The Sinking City in 2019. Or, rather, the chaos around who actually owned that game. Story for another day.

I found some previously unseen storyboards that former Gravity Falls storyboard artist Alonso Ramirez Ramos posted to his public Facebook page in 2018.
Some of these are from scenes that made it into the show, while others are not. These include some cut scenes from Northwest Mansion Mystery, A Tale of Two Stans, Dungeons, Dungeons and More Dungeons and Roadside Attraction!
Even in 2022, we are still finding new/old stuff related to this show!
I also found this super wholesome drawing that Alonso made in September 2015 when he won an Emmy for his storyboards on Not What He Seems!

Now with the return of gravity falls’ fandom, ships are starting to get more popular.
Yippee!
And obviously fiddauthor and the legacy that is billford are coming back, but dipcifica and mabcifica are coming back!
Personally, I like both. But there is an interesting point I’d like to bring up.
Ever since I’ve been thinking more about x, like, the actual characters and story arcs of the show, and I feel like NMM, introducing dipper and Pacifica as an obvious ship, was the PERFECT resolution to his whole “Wendy” arc. The climax was definitely in into the bunker, with that iconic moment. And then 8 episodes later, they give us dipcifica.
And I think it’s very likely that Alex had this in mind creating the show, but if he did,
WHY DOES ROADSIDE ATTRACTION EXIST????
Seriously, this episode is about Dipper trying to crush on someone new to get over Wendy, WHEN THE PERFECT THING IS TO JUST MAKE DIPCIFICA CANON. That would’ve been a way better arc resolution than Roadside Attraction.
And also the episode just throws in Candy having a crush on him for NO REASON!!??
Seriously what was Alex cooking when he planned this episode, or maybe it wasn’t him, just SOMEONE did it, and they were NOT COOKING AT ALL.
