Not an album from album a day but...
heard this album today from the NACC new music charts and it's insanely good
The Rot That Grows Inside My Chest, Teenage Jonas
this is a pop rock/alternative album that has some really amazing emotional parts. i was intending on just listening to a couple tracks off of this but got distracted and listened to the whole thing. oh boy it's neat. i wouldn't say it is a belt-filled album but it has that vibe emotionally towards the second half through the end. some of my favorite tracks were 'moneymoneymoney,' 'You're Not The President,' 'Ruby Doomsday,' 'Candy Apple,' and '5 Things I Can Taste.' I do realize this is like half the album but that was hard too.
also on the track '5 Things I Can Taste,' I think it's cool because the song is a breakup song and so putting the grounding technique in it was really interesting. Within that grounding technique, you are supposed to name 5 things you can see, 4 you can touch, 3 you can hear, 2 you can smell, and 1 you can taste. Numbers can vary slightly but generally it goes from easiest to think of to hardest, so the grounding effect isn't impossible to achieve. So either the band knew that and switched it on purpose, or we are thinking of two different things. I would assume they knew what they were doing. So it's cool that they probably went and thought 'yeah let's switch it to prove a point,' for which i assume the intent of that point was that it's really hard to calm down with techniques like this sometimes. Because what are you gonna do if stuff like that doesnt work. if you're sitting there actively having a panic attack, it would be really hard to be tasting 5 things during that, even if you stretch the limits. This is also just my interpretation.
i just think this is cool thanks for reading <3

Pezzullo Pissing In Political Pockets
Tumblr media
Michael Pezzullo, according to 60 Minutes, has been revealed as a Machiavellian character operating inside the halls of power in Canberra. Pezzullo pissing in political pockets in search of influence is operating well outside the remit of a member of the public service. The expose by Nine Fairfax investigative reporters shows him to be a right wing power broker rather than an apolitical appointment. The Home Affairs Secretary in his clandestine relationship with Liberal Party insider Scott Briggs has crossed the line repeatedly and consistently over many years. The trove of once encrypted messages now revealed should ring the death knell on his career. “The Age and 60 Minutes first revealed the series of texts between Pezzullo and Liberal powerbroker, Scott Briggs, in which the home affairs secretary disparaged senior Coalition ministers and advocated for a right winger to be minister responsible for his department. In a statement on Monday, the home affairs minister, Clare O’Neil, said: “I am aware of reporting regarding communications between Mr Michael Pezzullo and Mr Scott Briggs.” “ - (https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/sep/25/home-affairs-department-head-michael-pezzullo-referred-to-public-service-commissioner-over-leaked-texts)

Neoliberal champions who led us where we find ourselves - ripped off by our own economy!
Michael Pezzullo’s Text Messages Reveal Political Power Plays
The stench coming from Pezzullo’s promptings and covert campaigning within the Turnbull/Morrison Coalition government is pungent. This is another light on a very bad government. The disgraceful Robodebt debacle. Scott Morrison secretly making himself the Minister for everything. Sports rorts. Rape and sexual abuse allegations in parliament. The PwC tax scandal. The bodies are mounting up like our SAS unlawful killings in Afghanistan. Many of the bad actors like Stuart Robert, Alan Tudge, Marise Payne and Chistian Porter have already left the building.

Public Servants Behaving Badly Under Morrison
As an observer of the Abbott/Turnbull/Morrison federal governments It is hard not to see it as a low watermark in recent Australian political history. A time where self-interest and aggrandisement were modelled and encouraged by the leaders of the day. A decade where the entrenched wealthy become much richer at the expense of fairness and equality within Australia. The Liberal Party  lost its way under the aegis of the leering Tony Abbott and the lying Scott Morrison. Morality and transparency became opaque. Jobs for the boys and a public service aggressively brown nosing its way to fulsome pay packets. Robodebt would cost tax payers $1.8 billion and several vulnerable Australians would lose their lives. Half a million Australians were wrongly accused of owing large amounts of money to Centrelink. The senior public servants in these departments were an absolute disgrace and should be prosecuted.
Tumblr media
People like this man! Pezzullo Built His Home Affair's Fiefdom Michael Pezzullo lobbied for and created the Home Affairs department. He would become king of this castle under the Coalition. Pezzullo seemingly adored Dutton, during his time as the minister in charge. Pezzullo had a penchant for strong right wing types, it appears. He wanted Peter Dutton to replace Turnbull as PM, but settled for Scomo instead. He lobbied Scott Briggs tirelessly for what he wanted and there must have been plenty of back scratching in return – it would be interesting to examine his actions in light of this. This could well be a plumb case for the NACC. Corruption and inappropriate behaviours in the halls of power must be properly addressed in Australia. For too long we have been a bad joke in this regard. Robert Sudha Hamilton is the author of Money Matters: Navigating Credit, Debt, and Financial Freedom. ©WordsForWeb

For Black Women WHO Have Heard All The Criticisms Before….. These Words Ring True From Angel Reese “Just Keep Being You”
Congratulations 🍾 LSU
As Angel Reese points to her ring finger, letting Caitlin Clark know the ring is going here…. It is unfortunate, and I believe that everyone is going overboard with the talk about Reese and Clark in the women’s national title game on Sunday. I believe that all of this took away from the national championship finish, it took away from the game. It’s not the correct type of mocking if we respond…

Get Ready North American Birdwatchers... Name Changes Are Coming!
The AOS decided to change the common names of all birds named after people.
"Change all English names of birds that have been named after people and three additional names. This would include 152 English names on the NACC list and 111 on the SACC checklist; if the latter were to be changed, it should be done in close consultation with ornithologists from the Neotropics. To build AOS’s capacity to manage a new public process, conduct a pilot run of the name-change process, using <10 species names representing a broad cross-section of considerations and challenges..."

Drug Abuse/Substance Use Disorder, pt. 3
Neurobiology of Addiction
Reward circuit: neural circuit responsible for the acute rewarding and reinforcing effects of abused drugs.
Neuroimaging confirms that human brains have a reward circuit similar to that identified in animals, and it is activated by both drug and non-drug rewards.
Major structures:
Nucleus accumbens
Ventral tegmental area
Prefrontal cortex
Tumblr media
Activation of the human reward circuit by expectation of monetary rewards
Tumblr media
- Drugs that are addictive have a common property: they produce psychomotor activation in some part of their dose range.
- This means that at some levels of their consumption, these drugs make the user feel energetic and in control.
- Because of this commonality, it is proposed that all addictive drugs must interact with the same target in the brain.
Tumblr media
Rats will press a bar for electrical stimulation of the dopamine system in the brain and stop if the dopamine system is blocked.
Abused drugs tend to cause the release of dopamine or to prolong its availability, either directly or indirectly.
Drugs that block dopamine receptors or decrease the availability of dopamine are not substances that people abuse. For example, people do not abuse the drug Haldol, a major tranquilizer.
Tumblr media
- Activation of the mesolimbic dopamine pathway plays an important role in the rewarding and reinforcing effects of abused drugs.
- Dopamine neurons in the ventral tegmental area (midbrain) release dopamine into the nucleus accumbens (basal ganglia).
Tumblr media
- There is a difference between “liking” a drug (euphoria) and “wanting” a drug (craving).
- As drug addiction develops, the user experiences an increase in “wanting” the drug, even though there is no change (or even a decrease) in “liking” the drug.
- Wanting and liking may be produced by different parts of the brain.
Wanting: Mesolimbic dopamine system (VTA ---> NAcc)
Liking: Opioid neurons
Prefrontal Cortex
- The PFC has a role in executive function: planning, organization, problem solving, mental flexibility
- Also contributes to regulation of emotional & motivational processes
- Brain imaging studies show structural and functional abnormalities in the PFC in drug-addicted subjects.
- It is not clear whether structural abnormalities precede addiction or if they are caused by repeated drug use.
- Imaging studies using structural MRI show reduced gray matter volume in many drug addicts, sometimes even after long-term abstinence.
Tumblr media
- There is also a functional disruption of the glutamatergic pathway from the PFC to the NAcc.
- By interfering with normal transmission in this pathway, the changes impair the ability of the PFC to mediate response inhibition and impulse control.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Insular cortex = a portion of the cortex within the lateral sulcus
- Among other functions, it’s responsible for interpersonal experience
- Feeling of social exclusion is associated with drug addiction, and both are associated with the increased activity of the insula
Is addiction a disease?
- Earlier views saw excessive drug use and addiction as signs of personal and moral weakness (moral model).
- The disease model or medical model of addiction arose from work on alcoholism. It is based on the evidence of dysregulation of brain function (neuroadaptations) caused by repeated drug exposure.

Sorry I haven’t been on in ages! Possible TW
So I’ve changed my user name, i used to be sad-worthless-schizo.
Anyway, I don’t think i posted last year at all. I’ll start off with last January. I was in hospital for 2 months getting even more ECT treatments to add to my list. Also while i was in the locked ward i thought this nurse was trying to kill me and i went up to them and said why are you trying to kill me…and they grabbed me and i pulled out of their grip and punched the nurse in the face.
Anyway, she charged me, but that’s a whole different story.
I stayed out of hospital for a couple of months.
In May last year i was in hospital mental health unit for 1 day and i told the doctor that i was suicidal and she discharged me anyway. So i took a train about an hour away from my city and took a massive Panadol overdose. I took 140 Panadol tablets. I passed out at a park and someone called an ambulance. I woke up in the ambulance, and jumped out of the moving ambulance I didn’t want to go to hospital. The paramedics called the police and the police found me in a shopping centre car park and got me back in the ambulance.
When i got to the hospital, i was seen very quickly, and then taken to this very white cold bright room. I heard the doctors say that they’re going to intubate me. They tried putting an IV cannula in and it took several times, they ended up putting it in my foot. They put an oxygen mask on me while they got the meds ready to put me in an induced coma. They told me they were putting me to sleep now and that’s all i remember.
Apparently after the second day in a coma they tried waking me up and I didn’t react well. I tried pulling out all the tubes, jumping out of bed and kept saying i wanna kill myself i wanna kill myself i wanna kill myself over and over again, so they had to call security and put me back into a coma. I don’t remember any of that.
After 4 days in an induced coma they tried waking me up again. I woke up to my parents by my side holding my hand. Apparently my mum said they visited 2 times. Last week i asked her why did you guys drive over an hour away to see me in a coma as I’ve been in comas before and they’ve never visited. My mum said because the doctors said you could die. This made me cry last week, i never knew :(
Anyway, my mum also said that the doctors said i could hear them whilst being in a coma and my mum held my hand and said everything will be okay (and my name) and i apparently nodded. Weird hey.
So yeah they woke me up after 4 days in an induced coma and in my backpack that was with me was my diary, and the nurses and doctors read it. My mum overheard them saying ‘as soon as this girl wakes up we want her out of here’ and yep as soon as i woke up, all the tubes out, half an hour later…discharge. I couldn’t walk or talk, or eat or drink, and i kept vomiting. I got home and had to have a seat in the shower, I couldn’t stand, never felt so horrible before.
I just slept and vomited for days, so i went to a hospital close to home because i just couldn’t keep anything down. They did blood tests and it showed my liver levels were so high, so i needed to be on a NACC infusion for a couple of days again.
If you’ve read this far, thank you, and feel free to message me anytime :)
