Rough sleepers who present as suicidal to hospitals are being turned away or discharged back into homelessness due to a lack of beds, emergency housing and mental healthcare availability. In two cases identified by the Guardian, homeless Indigenous men linked their hospital presentation directly to their homelessness. One told staff: “It is hard to find a reason to live when you have nowhere to live.” They were discharged and found dead a short time later. Rough sleepers are dying needlessly after encounters with police and the justice system on trivial matters, which lead to use of force or deaths in custody. In at least four cases seen by the Guardian, deaths occurred after arrests for minor public order offences, such as drinking in public and public urination. Frontline workers say the chronic underfunding of specialised homelessness health services means easily treatable injuries and illnesses are being missed in early stages. This is compounding the significant toll homelessness causes on physical and mental health. Homeless Australians are being subjected to brutal, sometimes fatal violence while sleeping rough, and being found in parks, squats and on the street shot, stabbed or bashed. In one case, that of Sydney rough sleeper Roger Davies, police decided there were “no suspicious circumstances” despite evidence he had sustained fractures to nine ribs about the time he died and had complained of being subjected to violence and constant robberies while sleeping in a burnt-out squat house in Granville. They then failed to notify his family until more than two years after Davies was buried in a pauper’s grave. In Western Australia, Indigenous families say the state government is evicting public housing residents even when it knows this will lead to homelessness. Guardian Australia is aware of at least two families whose loved ones died by suicide shortly after losing housing and becoming homeless. The state’s department of communities said terminations are sought only as a “last resort” and that they provide support to tenants facing eviction.
The Australian government does not count the number of homelessness deaths each year, setting it apart from other western nations. Correspondence seen by the Guardian show the former federal government and state governments rejected or ignored the homelessness sector’s pleas in 2021 to build an annual tally, including by commissioning the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare to develop a reporting framework for hospitals, homelessness services and coroners.

December Prep 3
This week we'll be asking ourselves some questions and looking into some ideas to help us dig deeper into ourselves and our craft as we progress through the challenge ahead of us.
Discernment
The biggest tool we have as witches is Discernment. What is discernment?
Discernment is the ability to perceive, understand, and judge things clearly, especially those that are not obvious or straightforward.
here is a blog post that further explains it, through a witchcraft lens
Laws
The next thing we're looking into is awareness of laws regarding the things we're doing and our practices in general. One example being the legality of teaching witchcraft/ religion/ spiritual practices to minors. Where one can perform rituals and spells. Where you can find tools and ethically sourced materials for your craft. How to/ where to grow your own herbs and plants for your practice. The use of animal parts (if you use bones and the like) in your craft. The sale of goods and services, like spell kits, oils and diviniatory readings.
Make sure you're aware of laws in general, as I do not encourage breaking them in any shape or form. Know when you're allowed to be in certain places, like a park you wish to go to for a ritual, or any other public place. Make sure you're allowed to be there. If you're learning from other people, make sure they are allowed to teach you, legally. There are some laws regarding teaching minors, so it is always best to simply be aware.
This goes to both the local level, where you live, and beyond to the state and national level. You just have to be aware.
Lastly this week, let's actually ask ourselves some questions about the challenge and the year ahead.
What do you want to accomplish with this challenge? Do you want it to help you simply gather more knowledge? Or do you want to utilize it to grow a physical grimoire?
Are there specific things you hope to focus on? New things you want to learn or things you want a deeper knowledge and understanding of?
Correspondences
Along with discernment, we are going to talk about something that was only relatively recently popularized in witchy circles; correspondence lists.
Now, don't get me wrong, my grimoire folder is absolutely chock full of those big beautiful lists of correspondences for all kinds of things. Crystals, herbs, holidays, types of magic, so on and so on. And they're useful, ya know? To have lists of ingredients and items to use for certain things. It's great right?
But here's the kicker....
How do you KNOW that that herb is associated with fire? How do you KNOW that crystal is associated with water? What makes that connection and why?
So a big part of this challenge, when it comes to the prompts involving studying herbs and crystals and such, is going to be to first determine what our personal connection is to herbs and crystals and whatnot. What are they connected to for us individually, as opposed to just finding lists online.
Then, we will take lists that we find and make the connections with our personal research as to where others have found and made the connections they have.
Think of it like Basil, my favorite herb. "Where basil grows no evil goes" is a fairly common saying. Why is that? Where did it come from? Is that why some people use Basil for protection?
It is all good and well to have the association and correspondence lists, but it is also important to know where those things come from, and what makes those associations what they are.
Thank you all! I hope that we're all closer to being ready for the challenge ahead! December is a busy month, so utilizing time wisely is important, not only now, for the challenge prep, but for life!

Celebrating 140 Years of the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, 1883 – 2023
The original Board of Park Commissioners was appointed by the Minnesota State Legislature in 1883 following a vote of Minneapolis residents. Charles Loring (Loring Park namesake) was the board’s first president and William Berry the board’s first superintendent. During Berry’s tenure, the Board of Park Commissioners acquired much of its current park land, including the Chain of Lakes, Minnehaha Park, and Glenwood Park. Theodore Wirth was named as Berry’s successor in 1906. Wirth was an advocate for the use of parks by all community members, and he was a national leader in the establishment of neighborhood parks and recreation facilities. The city’s largest park, Glenwood Park, (which is 90% of the size of New York City's Central Park!) was renamed Theodore Wirth Park in 1938.
During the twentieth century, the park board continued to expand the Minneapolis Park System, increase recreation services within the parks, and manage existing park lands. Today the park Superintendent and Board commissioners, elected by Minneapolis residents, oversee 185 parks comprising 7,059 acres of parkland and water. The Minneapolis parks have been nationally recognized as a preeminent park system and the city consistently ranks among the top 5 park systems in the United States. More than 98 percent of Minneapolis residents live within a 10-minute walk of a park.
Special Collections houses the official records of the Minneapolis Board of Park Commissioners (now the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board) from the 1890s to 1960s. We have over 150 boxes of committee materials, correspondence, subject files, petitions, oversize maps, and other administrative records created by the Park Board. View the collection at Minneapolis Central Library.
Find maps and photos of the parks in the Hennepin County Library Digital Collections.

Currently Reading - July 2023
Signing up for summer reading was the best thing I did for myself last month, because now I get PRIZES for reading. (A lil watercolor set!)
Currently Reading:
To Shape a Dragon's Breath, by Moniquil Blackgoose - I heard about this book here on tumblr and roped Book Club into reading this with me, because I knew I was going to want to talk about it. So far it is very thought-provoking, and very fun. Dragons. Boarding schools. Indigenous rights issues. Colonialism. Steampunk stuff. All the things.
Currently Watching:
New Nurses, Season 3 (Hoopla) - A drama set in Denmark in the 1950s chronicling the admission of men to a nursing program for the first time. Seasons are 6 episodes long and so far it's a fun little program. Kind of a Call the Midwife vibe.
Just Finished: I didn't do a post for June so this is really long.
Endeavor, Season 9 (PBS Passport) - loved the way this finished.
Foundation, Season 1 (Apple TV) - Help, another space opera. (And shirtless Lee Pace…)
Van Der Valk, Season 2 (PBS Passport) - I just really wanted a crime procedural, and Marc Warren's Piet Van Der Valk (and his whole team, really) is kind of fun.
National Treasures, by Caroline Shenton - a nonfiction book about the evacuation of art from British Museums in the lead up to the Blitz. Sort of like Monuments Men, but with more stuffy academics in tweed. Very interesting and a gift from @junojelli
Cranford Short Stories, by Elizabeth Gaskell - This was an impulse buy at the library booksale, and I don't regret any of it. A fun and short read that made me want to rewatch the PBS miniseries.
The Gift of Rain, by Tan Twan Eng - Another impulse booksale buy. I loved Eng's Garden of the Evening Mists and couldn't pass up the chance to read the book that was nominated for the Booker Prize. I think I liked Evening Mists more, but this story was still really good - a story set in British-held (and Japanese occupied) Malaya during World War Two.
Good Night, Irene, by Luis Urrea - This book was amazing, and I hope everyone reads it. Urrea's ability to tell a story is great and I love that it was based on experiences his mom had during World War Two with the Red Cross Clubmobile service. Reading this one (sort of) with @shoshiwrites
The Rose Code, by Kate Quinn - Quinn is an excellent writer with a great grasp of historical detail and I've enjoyed everything of hers I've read. This book follows several Bletchley Park codebreakers. (Are we sensing a theme here??)
In the TBR Pile: mostly booksale buys I need to just buckle down and read.
Lessons in Chemistry, Bonnie Garmus The Marriage Portrait, Maggie O'Farrell Les Parisiennes: How the Women of Paris Lived, Loved and Died in the 1940s, Anne Sebba Churchill's Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare: The Mavericks Who Plotted Hitler's Defeat, Giles Milton Sisters in Arms, Nicola Tyrer * Millions like Us, Virginia Nicolson* (* Because @windylizmt figured out a GAP in my bookshelf re: British women's WWII experiences) An Unladylike Profession: American Women War Correspondents in World War I, Chris Dubbs, Bernadette Dunne, et al. A Thousand Years over a Hot Stove: A History of American Women Told Through Food, Recipes, and Remembrances, Laura Schenone

Two iconic CBS primetime brands from very different lanes are joining forces in the podcast space. Paramount Audio is set to reveal the launch of “48 Hours: NCIS,” a crossover series that leans on elements from long-running newsmagazine “48 Hours” and stalwart Eye drama franchise “NCIS.”
The podcast, helmed by veteran broadcast journo and “The Talk” host Natalie Morales, will center on real-life cases involving Naval Criminal Investigative Service agents. Premiering Oct. 29, the series opener focuses on Marine wife Erin Corwin, who disappeared in California’s Joshua Tree National Park at age 19. Her body was found in an abandoned mine two months later, and another Marine was identified as a suspect. The six-episode season of “48 Hours: NCIS” looks at what it describes as a “twisted story of infidelity and betrayal that led to Erin’s tragic end.”
“I can’t think of a better way to showcase the power of Paramount’s IP than by crossing over two of CBS’ most successful franchises to create new, original digital content,” said Paramount Global’s Steve Raizes, exec VP of podcasting and audio.  “We are beyond thrilled to be in a position to bring fans of ‘NCIS’ a deep dive into the real cases investigated by the agents portrayed on the iconic TV show, and the ‘48 Hours’ audience even more premium storytelling aligned with what they expect from the brand.”
In addition to “The Talk,” Morales is a CBS News correspondent who joined the devision in 2021, and reports for platforms including “48 Hours,” “CBS Mornings,” “CBS Sunday Morning” and others.
“Growing up in a military family, I am honored to be able to tell the stories of those who have and continue to serve our country, and to offer unique insights into the inner workings of the NCIS as they help solve cases,” Morales said. “Erin Corwin’s story as a newly pregnant, young military wife is especially heartbreaking.  It took the dedication of many NCIS agents to help find her in difficult desert conditions and to solve the mystery of how she died and who was responsible.”
“48 Hours: NCIS” is the latest expansion of the line of branded “48 Hours” podcasts including “Blood is Thicker: The Hargan Family Killings,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Apple podcast charts this spring. According to Paramount, that entry helped drive “a 985% increase in subscribers to the 48 Hours+ offering on Apple, which launched in 2023.”
Also, according to the conglom, average monthly downloads of “48 Hours” franchise podcasts increased 116% from 2022 to 2023, while all CBS News podcasts (which includes “48 Hours”) increased 59%.
The “NCIS” franchise recently celebrated its 1,000th episode, and new “NCIS” entries coming include “NCIS: Origins” and “NCIS: Tony & Ziva.”  The “NCIS” mother ship will premiere its Season 22 on CBS on Monday, Oct. 14, while the Season 37 premiere of “48 Hours” is on Saturday, Sept. 21.

Wild Card Podcast With Rachel Martin: Play The Game Of Questions…& Answers
Tumblr media
Wild Card With Rachel Martin is, on one hand, a typical NPR podcast -- restrained, thoughtful, reflective -- and, on the other hand, different, playful, probing to the point of noisy, and roguish. Part-interview, part-existential game show –  Wild Card from NPR has an interesting premise. Host Rachel Martin rips up the typical interview script and invites guests to play a game about life's biggest questions. Martin takes actors, artists and thinkers on a choose-your-own-adventure conversation that lets them open up about their fears, their joys and how they've built meaning from experience – all with the help of a very special deck of cards. In the first episode on May 1, 2024, Wild Card host Rachel Martin chatted with senior producer Lee Hale about why they wanted to make an existential interview-game podcast and how they came up with the Wild Card questions. It's a smart way to begin the podcast with an inside peek into the thought process surrounding the formation of the podcast.
NPR was smart to pick Rachel Martin for this assignment. Martin is sharp, funny, inquisitive, bold, and engaging. While listeners and critics can throw stones at the NPR podcast model, it has produced a slew of talented podcast hosts -- Audie Cornish, David Folkenflik, Brooke Gladstone, Liane Hansen, and Sam Sanders, to name a few.
Rachel Martin was a producer and reporter for KQED in San Francisco. In 2003, Martin was a freelance reporter in Afghanistan, also for NPR. From 2005 to 2007, she was foreign correspondent for NPR. In 2007, she covered the Virginia Tech shooting. In 2008, she was a correspondent for ABC News. Martin was one of the hosts of NPR's The Bryant Park Project, a New York-based experimental morning news program designed to attract a younger demographic. In 2010, Martin was National Security Correspondent for NPR, during which time she reported on the US' counterinsurgency efforts. She took over as host of Weekend Edition Sunday in 2012, shortly after longtime host Liane Hansen stepped down. She became a co-host of Morning Edition in 2016 when Renée Montagne stepped down. Furthermore, she left the show in early 2023. Having previously worked as the network's religion correspondent from 2006 to 2007, Martin is the creator of Enlighten Me, an NPR special series on religion, spirituality, and meaning.
In the second episode of the podcast, Rachel talked to Jenny Slate, known for her roles in Obvious Child, Marcel the Shell with Shoes On and Parks and Recreation. In the episode, Slade opened up about whether fate brought her to her husband, what she's sacrificed for motherhood, and what's so special about margarine and white bread sandwiches.
One of my favorites was with actor Chris Pine, who told Martin that his directorial debut, Poolman, got "obliterated" by critics. But the Star Trek and Wonder Woman star shares that the experience helped him reevaluate his desire for perfection. Pine also debated predestination with Rachel, reflects on the struggle to feel awe, and discusses his recurring childhood dreams of having tea with an elf in a tree.
The most recent episode welcomes director David Lynch, and, true to his reputation, the Twin Peaks director delves into oddities and weirdness.
NPR also has this subscription service called Wild Card+. You apparently receive access to bonus episodes, and you'll get to listen sponsor-free. If you're interested, you can learn more at plus.npr.org/wildcard.
Wild Card With Rachel Martin takes the interview process and adds a taste of whimsy, chance, gossipy revelations, and removes the standard talking points response often given by celebrities to interviewers.
Martin embraces the concept and has fun with it, as have the interviewed subjects so far. Check it out. It's refreshingly different.

Understanding the System of Zip Codes of Tennessee
Tennessee is one of the many states in the southeast region of the United States of America. It is known for its music, its big and nice cities and of course, stunning landscapes. Every zip code has a story behind it; it can consist of a downtown area, suburban homes, and vast farmlands.

Know These 15 Factors Before Relocating to Kuwait
Are you planning to relocate to Kuwait? If so, HelpXpat stands out as one of the premier international moving companies in Kuwait, offering comprehensive assistance with all necessary formalities.
Currency Kuwait boasts the highest-valued currency globally, the Kuwaiti dinar, serving as the national currency. As of March 13, 2017, one dinar is approximately $3.27 US or £2.68 GBP. Kuwaiti currency includes dinars and fils, with 1,000 fils making up a dinar. Various coin and note denominations are available.
History Kuwait's history saw turbulence until the arrival of the Aniza tribe in 1716, transforming the region into a known settlement named Kuwait. The area earned its name from "kut," meaning "fort." Pirates plagued the region before British intervention in the 19th century, impacting the economy. Kuwait gained independence on June 19, 1961, with National Day observed on February 25.
The Heat Similar to other Gulf countries, Kuwait experiences extreme summer heat, with temperatures reaching up to 50 °C. However, widespread air conditioning in interior spaces helps mitigate the heat, ensuring comfort even when outdoors during midday.
People Over 2.9 million foreigners reside in Kuwait, attracted by improved trade and employment opportunities. Post-oil discovery, the majority settled along the coast, constituting 70% of the total population in 2016.
Business Kuwait relies on petroleum as its primary income source, with fertilizer and oil being major exports. Over 60% of Kuwait's oil exports go to Asian countries, holding 10% of global oil reserves. Kuwait boasts the world's lowest oil production cost due to its proximity to the surface.
Document Legalization Legalizing documents for Kuwait follows a general process, requiring approval from the foreign affairs department in one's country before submission to the Kuwait Embassy. HelpXpat, as a top international moving company in Kuwait, assists in coordinating these processes.
Driving Licenses Kuwait does not recognize international driving licenses in their current form, necessitating legalization for driving in the country.
Food and Water Kuwait relies on food imports due to challenging climatic conditions, leading to relatively high food costs. Limited freshwater sources result in dependence on wells and seawater desalination for drinking and sewage.
Housing The construction boom in the past decade provides expats with diverse housing options. Rental buildings often offer services like trash pickup and car washing, albeit with limited amenities and parking spaces.
Life Kuwait's unhurried pace may result in slower task completion, particularly involving paperwork or bureaucracy. Planning tasks well in advance is advisable to avoid time constraints.
Evolution Kuwait prioritizes city and infrastructure development, marked by continuous construction, including the Burj Mubarak al-Kabir, expected to be the world's tallest building by 2030.
The Flag Introduced in 1961, the Kuwaiti flag consists of horizontal green, white, and red stripes with a black triangle. These colors correspond to a thirteenth-century poem by af ad-Din al-illi, symbolizing fields, conflicts, deeds of purity, and blood.
Sport Kuwait embraces sports, notably camel racing with robot jockeys since 2005 to prevent injuries.
Safety Kuwait boasts the third-lowest death rate globally, attributed to excellent healthcare, making it a secure place to live.
Travel Driving is the primary mode of transportation in Kuwait, given the absence of a railway system, metro, or trams. HelpXpat, a top relocation company in Kuwait, provides comprehensive assistance, from police clearance certificates to visa processing and orientation classes. Contact us for a free consultation at the International Call center Number – 00971528102947 or the Toll-free Number inside Kuwait – 00971525026611.

This is content that all roles are interested in, especially operating companies, because in layman’s terms this is content that can actually bring monetization value.
Here, the author can't help but feel HE Tuber grateful to have been deeply involved in the exploration of operator data monetization since graduation. I have accumulated a certain amount of knowledge about the data required for business development in banking, insurance, retail, cultural tourism and other industries.
After coming into contact with the huge treasure of public data, related scenarios gradually became systematic with corresponding research and certification. At present, the author has sorted out at least 30 scenarios, and the data products derived from some scenarios are taking effect in relevant places.
At the same time, the author believes that the greater value of authorized operation of public data or circulation of data elements is to help industrial upgrading. How to strengthen the integration of factor chains and industrial chains is a key point that needs to be considered in various places.
Because common scenarios will gradually become generalized, the corresponding value will decrease. Industrial scenarios, especially those that combine local characteristics, will definitely improve the level of local economic development.
This is also what the author believes is the most important value of data as a production factor: promoting the deep integration of data elements with other production factors such as capital and technology; using data elements to integrate and forge various chains in market relationships; improving entities through the marketization of data elements economic operation power, thereby forming a coordinated development mechanism.
Take the biomedical industry as an example: In the drug discovery stage, target orientation requires the support of various international relevant databases. Basically, relevant biomedical research institutions need to spend corresponding expenses for procurement and analysis every year. If the operating company conducts unified purchasing and the data providers form corresponding data base products and supply them to pharmaceutical companies, then the R&D costs of pharmaceutical companies will be reduced. At the same time, in the clinical trial stage, the capital cost required for new drug research applications is very large. How to form a product in the enterprise research stage and a local investment mechanism also requires the integration of factor chains.
Therefore, judging from the current exploration in various places, some places are already building data element industrial parks. The author believes that we can wait for a while, and the ultimate form is to form a local data element industrial park. But the core prelude is the need to form factor services in all aspects around local characteristic industries, so as to help industrial upgrading on the one hand, and on the other hand to form an industrial park with local characteristics around these factor services.
Income distribution
Since in layman's terms, public data authorization operations are monetization, then how to price data products in various scenarios has been a long-standing problem.
Operators have been working on monetization for so many years and there is no specific standard method, so the author believes that a national standard is basically impossible, or very difficult. Theoretically, pricing methods are divided into cost method, income method, and market method. Currently, it is recommended to adopt the cost method. After all, there are not so many data products in various places.
So what are the general revenue paths? The author believes that it is divided into the following categories:
End-to-end revenue, the operating company directly faces the revenue of the utilization entity.
The operating company processes and forms data components for the benefit of digital business operators.
Annual registration fee for several merchants.
Data providers will take a commission from the trading volume of their data products.
Accounting and disclosure to improve operating company corporate assets.
Conclusion
The effective development of public data authorization operations is the product of the combination of a promising government and an effective market. Of course, there are so many contents about public data authorization operations that the author cannot explain them in a unified manner, and will continue to be updated in the future.
