Episode 4 of the Shogun remake is a good showcase for a specific development in the history of warfare. When galleons, made to survive the rougher conditions of the Atlantic, went up against galleys and small boats made for seas, the ancient tactics of boarding and fighting hand-to hand didn’t work anymore because they were just too tall.
Tumblr media
There’s one story of a galleon sailing into the Mediterranean and getting attacked by quinqueremes and galleasses, and when one tried to ram her like it was the Peloponnesian or Punic Wars the galley just crushed herself against the side of the galleon, doing no damage.

Don’t be rude to the Tideripper, Aloy, she just wants to say hello. (>.<) … There’s an old hzd pic I have where I pretended Aloy was on a boat. I should try to replicate that xD… except she’s really on a boat this time.

HEADCANON TIME!
•At the guild, many talked about the possibility of a romantic relationship between Juvia and Gajeel in the past, infuriating Gray and Levy.
Only Erza and Natsu did not participate in this conversation as they both saw in Juvia and Gajeel, the same bond they have, of friendship and fraternal.
•The Element Four have seen the great magical games via lacrima. When Aria had the opportunity, he scolded Juvia for the fool she made in the naval battle, reminding her of who she had been to Phantom and how much power she had.
The former leader also told her that the new technique was powerful, but the name and the pink hearts were horrendous for him.
•In the seven years during the demise of Fairy Tail's Team Tenrou, Aria got married and had a daughter, Ventisca (my OC).

"Well done my lads!" cried Captain Oughton; "well done! that broadside was a staggerer—right into his ribs. Hurrah now, my hearts of oak! this fellow's worth fighting. Aim at his foremast—another broadside will floor it. It's on the reel—Newton, jump forward, and—"
But the order was stopped by a grape-shot, which struck Captain Oughton on the breast. He staggered and fell off from the poop to the quarter-deck. Newton leapt down, and went to him. The torrents of blood from his breast at once told the tale; and Newton called to some of the men, that his commander might be taken below.
"Wait a moment, my dear lad," said Captain Oughton, faintly, and catching his breath at every word; "it's a finisher—can't come to time—I die game."
— Frederick Marryat, Newton Forster

American battleship USS West Virginia (BB-48) firing during the Battle of Surigao Strait, October 1944
The battle of Leyte Gulf consisted of four main engagements (the Battle of the Sibuyan Sea, the Battle of Surigao Strait, the Battle off Cape Engaño and the Battle off Samar), as well as lesser actions. It was the first battle in which Japanese aircraft carried out organised kamikaze attacks, and it was the last naval battle between battleships in history.
