Let me paint a scene for y'all. It's July, in North Carolina and it's 7am. You're outside, in the garden, putting in work, because you know, once that midmorning heat hits, everything changes. The air is thick, a bit too sticky to be called dewy, but the moisture in the air is pleasant, almost creamy, calming. There are birds chirping and a few bees and even fewer voices. There's a stillness so peaceful, so calming that you sink deep into the aromas surrounding you. You've picked sungold tomatoes and herbs, lots of herbs--chocolate mint, lemon thyme, maybe even some sweet basil. And when you're done, right before the rest of the world wakes up and joins your day, you smell your fingertips. The scent of tomato leaf and herbs have permeated your pores. I don't even have words for these gorgeous keepsake pieces my friend made for me. This is a true testament to the beauty of patience....what comes to those who wait. Yes, I wanted her finger print asap after her accident of course (because, let's face it, you want every. single. piece. of ANYTHING you can grasp and hold onto of the child you just lost in a single breath.) I've admired Ashley @ashleylozanojewelry and her work for years. I'm lucky to call her a friend. I'm lucky to own a few of her fabulous pieces. I'm lucky to have her on the other side of a chat no matter the topic. I'm lucky to call her local to me. I'm most fortunate that I was able to have her make some of the most precious pieces of jewelry I'll ever own. Where Alexis' arms used to be around my neck when she'd come after school and say "Mooooooooom, I'm SOOOOOO hungry, omgahhhhhh"......now instead replaced with tiny remnants of her: °LEX'S profile silhouette from an actual photo with her actual thumb print from a few months ago (with the messy bun, no less) °Her actual feet prints from birth and her June birthstone situated in the center. On the back her name, birthdate, weight and length. ° If that was enough, Ashley surprised me with the her <3 Lucy signature on the back of the thumb print pendant. In addition to above, I have each piece in a rubber stamp that I can use at anytime. ♡ Again, there are no words. The amount of gratitude can't be measured. So, it took this Mama 4 months to get herself together and plan and collaborate with Ashley for these precious keepsakes. She was so patient with me. I was a HOT mess (honestly, still am most days.)
