Young Adult. tumblr classic back in the day! A trainer of sea monsters genetically engineered to protect ships from pirates is kidnapped by, you guessed it, pirates, one of whom happens to be very hot.

Escaping Exodus by Nicky Drayden

While my feelings on Escaping Exodus were mixed, it cannot be denied that the dynamic between the two leads and the way they go from childhood best friends to enemies on different sides of a class and power struggle is very delicious. It also features some really cool worldbuilding of living, alien generation spaceships and the human culture that has developed inside them.

The Stars are Legion by Kameron Hurley

This book fucked me up when I read it. It’s weird, it's gross, there’s So Much Viscera, there are literally no men, it has living spaceships and biotech but in the most horrific way imaginable. Had I to categorize it I would call it grimdark military sf. It’s an experience but not necessarily a pleasant one.

The Lumionus Dead by Caitlin Starling

Possibly one of the most unsettling books I've ever read, and definitely the most claustrophobic. Gyre, a caver on an alien planet, ventures into the dark and dangerous underground, guided only by a woman who has no compunctions on using and manipulating Gyre as she sees fit to obtain her secretive goals down in the caves.

The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri

On the less toxic and fucked up side of the spectrum, but still pretty juicy. A princess held captive by her own brother, who wants to see her dead, tries to trick a servant into helping her escape, but with undeniable attraction growing between them and the servant having her own goals things quickly get complicated.

Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

Listen, if you're on tumblr I probably don't need to explain this book to you. Trust me when I say it's exactly as good as people claim. There are indeed lesbian necromancers in space (quite a few of them, actually), but also incredible worldbuilding that keeps growing with every new installment, interesting political commentary, morally complex characters with fucked up dynamics, and well-thought out plot that keeps you guessing until the last.

They Never Learn by Layne Fargo

Listen, sometimes you just want to read about a vicious bisexual lady professor who murders predatory men and falls for the woman trying to solve her crimes and that's okay.

Fingersmith by Sarah Waters

The source of not one but two movie adaptations, Fingersmith is a story of trickery and manipulation as a young conwoman works to gain the trust of a heiress. I don’t want to say much more because the twists are some of the best parts, but trust that it doesn’t take long for things to get real complicated between them.

The Unbroken by C.L. Clark

Tourraine, who was stolen as a child and trained as a soldier for the empire that conquered her home, is recruited by Luka, the future leader of the conquering country to route out a rebellion. A game of twisted loyalties and attraction is soon to develop.

This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone

Again, if you're on tumblr (or twitter, apparently) you have in all likelihood already heard of this one, too. Just like GtN it lives up to all expectations. It features two women on different sides of the titular time war, who starts leaving letters for the other to find as they chase each other through time. A quick read, slightly surreal, and absolutely beautiful, I cannot recommend this enough. Pretty mild on the fucked-up-scale.

House of Hunger by Alexis Henderson

In a world where the rich drink blood to preserve their health, Marion applies to a position as bloodmaid in a notorious noble house far from home. Suddenly showered with luxuries and debauchery, Marion soon gains the interest and favor of Lisavet, countess of the house. A fresh take on the idea of vampires.

Sorrowland by Rivers Solomon

A young pregnant woman flees a cult that left her body strange and changing in terrifying ways. Hidden from the world, she does her best to raise her children while trying to find out the truth of the cult and being pursued by a hunter in a dangerous game of cat and mouse. In no way a romance, but certainly has some fucked up sapphic shit going on.

The Traitor Baru Cormorant by Seth Dickinson

After her home was conquered by another land, Baru is determined to join their forces and climb the ladder until she’s in a position to free her people. To prove her loyalty, she’s sent to bring order and quell rebellion in another conqured region. Baru is set to succeed, but also has to struggle with her feelings for Tain Hu, a duchess of this region.

Ice Massacre (Mermaids of Eriana Kwai trilogy) by Tiana Warner

Young Adult. A small island is forced to defend itself against intruding forces of vicious mermaids. As all men trying to fight them get lured in by their siren song, a ship filled with warrior girls is sent instead. However one of them, Meela, had a complicated past with one of the mermaids, which is brought back to life when the two reunite on the battlefield. This one is also available as an ongoing webcomic!

Borderline (The Arcadia Project trilogy) by Mishell Baker

Urban fantasy mystery. Very much of the will-they-won’t-they variety, with a bisexual lead who has a male love interest as well as a female without falling into the typical pitfalls of a love triangle. Plays around with various fucked up power dynamics. A year after a failed suicide attempt that cost her both her legs, Millie is recruited by a secretive organisation that works to control traffic to and from Arcadia, the land of faries. Bear in mind that while the sapphic-ness is present throughout, it has a much smaller presence in book 1 than books 2 and 3.

Grunge Days pt.17 - Estranged

1992, Los Angeles

Y/n ran her hands through her hair, putting her luggage down onto the floor. Alice had just finished mixing their record, so now they just had to get the cover done and they would be able to release it.

Upon their arrival back to LA, Y/n was filled with this hollowness in her body. She was okay during most of the making of the record, but now she had nothing to distract her from her fucked up life.

Downstairs, Jerry opened the door to see a very fucked up Duff.

“Where’s Y/n” He asked Jerry, his voice strained.

Jerry’s eyebrows furrowed, “She’s upstairs, why?”

Jerry turned back to look at Duff, who just stormed pass him. “Jeez” Jerry mumbled to himself.

Y/n jumped as she looked at Duff, who had slammed her bedroom door shut.

He paced to the side of the bed where she was sitting on, the girls heart racing because he looked pissed.

Duff raised his hand, slapping her across the face. “You fucken idiot!” He yelled

Y/ns eyes teared up as she put her hand against her face, “what the fuck Duff” she said, her voice cracking.

And the next thing she knew, Duff had his hands wrapped around her throat, she laid on her bed as he strangled her.

She attempted to pry his hands off her, her tears falling off the side of her face. She couldn’t breath, she was fucken mortified.

“Duff” She said, trying to breath,

“I fucken told you Y/n” He said “I told you that if you ever touched another fucken needle i was gonna kick your ass!” He yelled.

As she looked into his eyes, silently pleading for him to let go of her, she saw nothing. No remorse, no Duff.

This was it she thought, she was gonna fucken die, and Duff was gonna be the one to kill her.

Huh, who would’ve thought.

That was until Jerry and Layne bursted through the door. To be honest, they heard Duff yelling and they thought it was weird that Y/n wasn’t yelling back, so they decided to see what was going on. And they were so glad they did.

“Duff let her go” Layne said as him and Jerry attempted to pull Duff off of Y/n. “Sean!” Layne called out.

“What the fuck” Sean said as he entered the room, immediately grabbing Duff and ripping him off of Y/n.

“What’s your fucken issue!” Sean yelled at Duff as Layne rushed to Y/ns side.

“Y/n” Layne said

Y/n was hyperventilating, her fingers lightly touching her throat as she cried.

Duffs eyes widened when he looked at his baby sister, what the fuck had he done? “Oh my god Y/n i’m sorry”

“Get him out” Y/n said, her voice barley coming through.

Sean grabbed him by his shirt, dragging him out of the room as Duff protested and repeatedly apologized.

“Just let me talk to her” Duff cried to Sean as they were now standing outside “Please man i didn’t mean to do this, I-i fucken blacked out”

“Get the fuck out” Sean said, shoving him.

“No- no that’s my sister” Duff stuttered out, running his hand down his face

Sean scoffed at him, walking back into the house and locking the door. As much as he wanted to kick Duffs ass, he mainly wanted to see if Y/n was okay.

Sean walked back into Y/ns room, her head laying on Laynes lap as Jerry was sitting on the floor.

Sean kneeled down, looking at Y/n “I’m so glad you didn’t die” he said

Y/n cracked a smile as a tears fell out of her eyes “Me too” she croaked.

“We were saying we should call Susan” Jerry spoke up.

“Is that okay?” Sean asked Y/n

Y/n nodded her head slightly, and Sean & Jerry left the room.

Y/n removed herself from Laynes lap, she looked at him as she whispered, “I can’t do this anymore Layne”

Layne looked at her, his eyes watery “Don’t say that”

“Everything is too complicated” She said “I just need a break”

“We’ll get you a break okay? We could go anywhere you want” Layne held her “Just please don’t leave me” He whispered

Y/n clung onto him tightly “I won’t” she whispered

Music Ties (Kurt Cobain X Female Reader) ------------------------------------------------

i sat back stage while Nirvana performed. LA was doing this music fest thing and my band along with alot of others were invited. Nirvana being one of them since their big hit "Smells Like Teen Spirit" just dropped. it went everywhere and nirvana was one of the worlds biggest bands. teens and adults would die to see nirvana in concert now. they just finished off in bloom and now they began to play Teen Spirit. the crowd screamed as soon as kurt began to strum the chords. dave started to play along with kurt and krist. people were jumping on the stage and reaching for kurt. i already performed with my band so i just chose to stay back stage instead of leaving like my other mates. i sat on the floor tuning my guitar for a while until kurt came rushing back stage with tears flowing down his face. suddenly a photographer came and started to take photos of his crying face. i stepped in. "hey man cant you leave him alone he seems to be having a rough time" i said turning my attention to them. kurt sobbed in his hands while the photographer looked at me before walking away. i sat next to kurt and rubbed his back. we were complete strangers except for the fact we listened to each others music. "hey its ok..." i said as i comforted him. he sobbed more into his hands before leaning onto me and crying more. i wrapped my arms around his skinny waist. i held him tight and let him cry his feelings out. his face was buried right in my chest but i knew he wasnt perverted he was just really sad and needed comfort. "its ok let everything out its just us..." i said as my other hand grazed through his greasy blonde hair. he sniffled a bit more before sitting up and looking at me. "thanks...fuck now my stomach hurts" he said with a soft chuckle. his hands wrapped around his stomach as he let out a soft groan. "aw fuck" he groaned laying on the ground. "uh you got any meds? anything at all?" i asked him "yeah...in my bag in the dressing room..." he groaned "its called...imodium....uh orange bottle i think its in the second pocket...heres the key to the room" he said giving me a key with a red band with a tag that said "NIRVANA" in big letters. "ok ill get it for you...need any water?" i asked "sure" he replied rolling around on the floor holding his stomach. i exited the room and went to nirvanas dressing room. i saw kurts small man-purse on the floor next to a chair. i opened the second pouch and grabbed the orange bottle out. i also saw a Evian water bottle with "kurdt" written on it sloppy. i made sure i put his bag back and i left the room. i made my way backstage again. i saw krist and dave comforting kurt. "hey im back" i said as i knelt by kurt and handed him his pills and water. he eagerly took them and threw the pill bottle on the ground once he was done. "thanks" he said panting a bit "well hello missy" krist said wiggling his eyebrows. "you guys are cute together" he continued "shut up" kurt said giggling a bit. "hi" dave said waving his hand. next thing we knew the crowd was going crazy again since alice in chains went on stage. "oh fuck thats loud..." kurt said covering his ears. "i know its louder than my drums!" dave said looking at the stage. "i kinda like alice in chains but they're not a favorite" i said "yeah but layne has one hell of a voice" kurt admitted. "yeah thats right for sure...hes super loud" i said rubbing kurts hair. he leaned into my hand more. "awe you guys are just the cutest" dave said in a girly voice "so what it feels nice" kurt said closing his eyes. "so....miss Y/N...what do you plan on doing with your band?" krist asked me "i dont know...my band mates are kind of assholes...they just bitch and complain a lot...about being in a band....it makes me feel kinda...sad" i spoke as i began to play with my shoelaces. "aw man fuck em...make a newer band or join one" kurt said looking up at me. "nah...people love us together...its just really hard to deal with it" i said as i looked into kurts blue eyes.

1. Three ships

I don’t ship often, but I do love Lumity (from The Owl House)! At first I was hesitant about it, but once the needed character development happened the ship quickly grew on me. They are so sweet together. Uhhh I used to ship Discord x Fluttershy (from My Little Pony) many many years ago…but I don’t ship that anymore lol. Tell me everything 🤩

Your wish is my command, Layne my darling!! I hereby introduce you to the Kaur siblings, Ananya and Rohan!! (And I’m also gonna tag my beloved @oneirataxia-girl since I know she’s a fan of these babies. <3)

Now, Rohan is the older sibling and the next in like for his family’s title and small fortune. His and Ananya’s father is a baron of decent means, who met their mother on a trip to India shortly after he inherited the title from his own father and married her (and would have taken her last name if he could have, but settled for allowing his children to take it instead). Their family isn’t incredibly rich or important, somewhere between the Bennets and the Bingleys in terms of money, but they have a decent-sized estate and some good business contacts that Rohan has been trained to take over since he was only ten years old.

The thing is, though, that Rohan doesn’t want to take over the estate once he gets married - he’s never had a head for business or managing relationships. He’s a bookworm through and through, fascinated with history and the pursuit of knowledge itself, and he’d much rather be holed up in the estate’s library all day with his nose in any informational text he can get his hands on than dealing with a bunch of stodgy old nobleman. And as much as his father loves him and wishes he could let him fulfill his dream of being a historian, Rohan is his only son, and his sister has no more of a head for business than he does, so unless he manages to marry a woman capable of running the estate, it’s going to be up to Rohan to keep things going.

Rohan, understandably, is incredibly upset about the whole situation, especially because he doesn’t ever really intend to marry (due to the fact that he is not interested in women at all and is, unfortunately, not allowed to marry another man). But when his parents make the decision to move their estate to Hertfordshire, wanting a bit of a quieter life as they get older, Rohan finds the perfect solution in one Elizabeth Bennet. He and Lizzie become fast friends after meeting, bonded by their love of reading and knowledge in general, and it also doesn’t take Rohan long to notice that Lizzie and his little sister seem to be taking a particular interest in one another - the same kind of interest he and Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy have been taking in each other at the same time. And as luck would have it, Ananya seems to get along splendidly with Mr. Darcy as well, despite their vastly different personalities.

This whole turn of events leads Rohan to think of a (in his opinion, anyway) genius plan: he will marry Elizabeth and Ananya will marry Mr. Darcy. That way, he can leave the running of his family’s estate up to Lizzie, who has much more of a talent for running things than he does, Lizzie’s family will get a better life since Lizzie has married into nobility, and to top it all off, their little group of four will all be able to spend time with their respective lovers with little fear of having to keep a secret and absolutely no jealousy. It’s a bit of a crazy plan, he knows (and Darcy makes it very clear that he thinks so), but still a good one, and so the four of them go along with it. And so Rohan winds up married to his best friend while having nightly rendezvous with the man he loves and that his wife used to hate, while his beloved little sister does the same thing, just in reverse.

And speaking of little sister, let’s talk about Ananya!! She is a genuine ray of sunshine, almost always smiling and letting out the sweetest little giggle every time someone says something she finds funny. She is also decidedly her and Rohan’s mother’s favorite child, a fact which the woman would never admit and that Ananya would never hold over Rohan’s head, but it’s true nonetheless; for the most part, she has always been a perfect little proper lady who needed little training on matters of etiquette and manners, and her mother adores her for that.

But there is still that for the most part, and it lies in the fact that Ananya loves to get dirty in the garden. Despite the fact that her family does have a gardener on staff, she’s basically in charge of the garden both at their estate in the city and in Hertfordshire, and if anyone ever can’t find her in the house it’s a pretty safe bet that she can be found in the garden, soiling the knees of one of her day dresses with her hands shoved into the soil. It drives her mother just a little bit crazy, but she also doesn’t really do too much about it considering the floral arrangements Ananya puts together for the house always get positive comments from visitors.

Still, the countess always tells her daughter, she won’t be able to garden forever once she gets married - which Ananya doesn’t want to do, really, for very similar reasons to her older brother. When the family moves to Hertfordshire and she meets Lizzie Bennet, of course, she very much reconsiders that, and it breaks her heart every time she has to remind herself that she can never marry the person she truly loves.

Of course, Ananya then strikes up a truly unexpected friendship with Fitzwilliam Darcy - they are very much a sunshine/sunshine protector friendship - whose estate has an amazing garden, and Rohan eventually proposes his plan for he and Ananya to marry their friends and meet up with their lovers in secret. Ananya is head over heels in love with Lizzie, with her witty remarks and bright smiles that she seems to reserve specifically for Ananya, so of course she agrees to Rohan’s scheme and accepts Darcy’s proposal of marriage - especially because it will make her parents happy, and especially because Darcy agrees to give her full control over the estate’s garden and she enjoys proving her mother wrong that little bit.

Anyways, those are my two Pride & Prejudice babies!! I will make a proper intro post for them at some point, but for now feel free to ask more questions about them if you want to!!

On the Run

Summary: A rapid presentation of Russell Davon, an original character from a Cyberpunk Dystopian AU I have been working on with @arnold-layne (yes I’m gonna tag you everytime I’ll make content about them lmao), while he’s escaping a gang he stole some goods from. Plus an appearance of Dylan!

A/N: Sooo in the structure I go to there’s a club of creative writing of some sorts, and this week’s exercise was about coming up with a character and basically tell as much as we could about them in a few pages in less than an hour, inserting them in a context, narrating how their life is etc. and you BET YO ASS I would talk about my OC’s!! I felt pretty proud about it so I decided to translate it and post it here too. Excuse the vagueness (it was just an exercise after all) and any grammar/syntax errors or redundancy, I’m trying I promise :^)

Russell ran through the lanes of the suburbs of Rhinestone City with his heart pounding in his chest. His red hair, shoulder-length, irregularly cut, was a burning flame that warmed and colored the street in an instant for passersby, and a bullfighting cloth for the armed-to-the-teeth henchmen who were chasing him at breakneck speed. Russ grinned: he knew it. He knew how pissed off it made them, to realize that they got screwed over once again by a brat, a stupid punk who has no sense of danger or self-preservation instinct. Food was scarce for everyone here (let alone money), every day there were people dropping like flies dying of starvation — “… But better them than me,” Russ told himself as he jumped over an old abandoned stall, clutching the loot he took from his chasers under his clothes. While looking back, he pushed some pallets to the ground to create obstacles for his pursuers, unwilling to stop to catch his breath. He heard them cursing at him as he turned the street’s angle. He had to stop himself from laughing.

It was a cold, dreary morning and Russell could feel it through his jacket, pants and boots, all in leather (the latter stolen from “A special forces cop,” Russ claims), but a rainy day certainly would not have discouraged this stubborn child of the streets to want to survive another day. It’s a dog-eat-dog world, and he was determined to keep his streak of being the dog that eats and doesn’t get eaten.

Russell sped through another corner, and then another, ending up in one of the main streets where people were pouring into; finally, he could slow his pace down and blend into the crowd.

Suddenly, there was a whistle, and a familiar voice called his name. The boy turned toward the sound: it was Dylan, looking out the window on the second floor of a building in an alley nearby, filled with dumpsters and garbage blocking the other end. Russell nodded to him with a smile, but in the meantime, another much less friendly voice declared that he had “found the little bastard” and incited his mates to come there faster. Shit. He had to think quickly. The boy sprinted toward his friend — olive skin, dark-brown mohawk with a red bandana on his forehead, eyes glistening in excitement —, who promptly held out his hand to him. No questions asked, not a word said: considered the number of times they’ve both been in similar situations, there was no need for those extra pleasantries. Nasty Redhead* quickly walked up a flight of rusted fire escape stairs. Then, with a leap, the punk grabbed Dylan’s arm and scrambled through the balcony, landing clumsily on his partner in crime, making the ladder collapse beneath his feet with a deafening crash of metal. The two boys watched it fall on top of the bunch of apes who were after Russell, leaving them stunned and with a dumb, dazed expression on their faces. Russ and Dylan looked at each other for a second, and immediately burst out laughing for the adrenaline rush, giving each other high-fives and pats on the back. Meanwhile, the gang was still under them, spewing empty threats at both. Dylan leaned over the windowsill, raising both middle fingers with a shit-eating grin. Russell did the same with one hand — fit into a mucky fingerless glove —: he first touched the finger with his lips and then he directed it to the mugs below, imitating a blown kiss, but less elegant.

Once again, Russell Davon had looked death in her eyes and laughed in her face.

*Nasty Redhead: transl. from Italian, “Rosso Malpelo”, a nickname which combines Rosso (red) with Malpelo (literally “evil hair”), as Sicilians believed that people with red hair were malicious and had an evil disposition. It became a common saying in the Italian language after Sicilian novelist Giovanni Verga published a short story with this title in 1878. (A/N: when I wrote this in Italian I thought the nickname would fit Russ very well so I used it, shame it got kinda lost in translation)
