No one faults the Baker who protects a five-tiered cake as it is being delivered to a wedding. Everyone expects Mom and Dad to protect their children. And no one finds it unusual to lock the doors to the car or house so invaders don't tote away things you hold of great value, and have worked hard for.

And when you are deep in the feeling of protection, you don't much care what others think about it. Because they don't have a personal relationship with that person, place or thing the way you do.

Later today Mars will move into Gemini (4:43pm ET), and start a journey of exploring new ideas, and empowering the ideas it birthed the last time it was in Gemini in 2022/2023. But before it does Mars undergoes a bit of a test, as it sextiles Neptune (rx) in Pisces at 29°.

The test is are you willing to feel these things worthy of protecting, even as the world criticizes you about it. And are you even willing to protect the intangible, such as ideas and philosophies, that seemingly are no where to be found.

As the astrology of the remainder of 2024 starts to get a little squirrely, and even MORE unexpected energies fall on our path, this is when you feel the most tested to protect that which you value and hold deepest in your heart.

Interesting that Jupiter stations direct just before a new calendar year. I think we’re going to sally forth into 2024 with more optimism than we expect, here in late December 2023.

A few handpicked Jupiter/Taurus themes, gleaned from here and there in Steven Forrest’s books:

You may have had financial (Taurus) issues over the past several months. Perhaps some overeating as well? Jupiter, as co-ruler of Pisces, is sometimes behind instances of loss in our lives - but the kinds of loss for which, years later, we can say “it was one of the best things that ever happened to me.”

We’ve been doing internal work with these (&/or other themes) since Jupiter’s retrograde station back on September 4. Where does that little swath of 5°-15° Taurus fall in your chart, and what has happened there?

(It’s been mostly in my 6th House - and my job has been beyond demanding and stressful, almost all this academic year, thanks to two paraeducators quitting, and a third out for weeks with a mystery ailment - the continuing lack of substitutes to fill in for them - the slowness of admin, or whomever, in hiring new people. I’ve never been so consistently drained after work. I can see Jupiter Rx in the loss of coworkers, 6th House.)

Now that Jupiter is direct, we can start to act on and manifest what we’ve learned. This is Taurus, remember: Jupiter here needs something tangible and sensual. Perhaps now that my department is finally staffed adequately, my colleagues and I can focus on helping kids and not “where am I going today 7th period.”

(A coping mechanism I developed is based on local scenery: when I get off the bus every morning, I gape at the mountains for a few moments. Always the same, and different every day. I don’t ever want to take them for granted. Jupiter/Taurus.)

Each of the faster-moving planets will make several different aspects to Jupiter during the next three months. If any of them “dings” you, look for ways to relate it to your Jupiter plans, as well as to the quicker planets’ agendas.

Jupiter makes only one aspect to a slower-moving planet: a semi-square to Neptune on March 4, with Jupiter at 11°51’ Taurus and Neptune at 26°51’ Pisces. This is the “Crescent” phase of the Jupiter-Neptune cycle; they were conjunct on April 14, 2022, at 23°56’ Pisces. Whatever “seed” got planted way back then, is trying to sprout. (This is why Ms M hangs on to her old journals.)

on the other hand, i do see some water degrees in the aries rising chart, and there are asteroids and pluto in 8th house. there is definitely spiritual meaning to his neptune in some way.

well, according to the true node in the 5th house, it’s about reclaiming his individuality, it’s about finding ourselves. it makes sense to the true node to be in the fifth house because of both his mercury and venus retrograde. mercury is about communication, way of thinking, knoweledge. venus is about creativity, art, beautiful things in general. as soon as i learned that his brother pushed him to try for the sm audition, i understood it makes sense.

Card for this week: 4 of Swords - time to CHILL OUT this week. frustrations and anxieties surrounding the slowdowns and malfunctions of late may be mounting. your next steps will require lots of energy and you're running on reserves right now. if you are pushing your way through, you will likely be slowed down this week if you don't take the opportunity to stop on your own. you have my full authorization to cancel a plan or two and rest...... meditate if you wish...... just find a way to be still at some point.

Transits/Astro forecast: i don't know about y'all. but i'm certainly feeling the retrogrades. i've been reading some tweets from other astrologers implying that the retrogrades will really be intensifying this week. myriad reasons, but i will simply be saying - strap in! back up your files, leave a few extra minutes earlier, and break out the journals. as we know- current rxs are mercury, chiron, saturn, neptune, pluto, themes of summer 2023, spring 2024, and now we've incorporated a bit of late spring/summer 2022! How fun. might as well remember everything once more!

as for specifics-

-mars will be conjunct jupiter (after the last few weeks of mars revving up uranus and causing big shakeups) in the morning on wed. the 14th: your actions are given an extra power boost, for better or for worse. such is the nature of amplification, keep in mind that consequences will be stronger BUT there will be higher rewards for choices made in your best interest.

-mercury retrogrades back into leo late on wed. the 14th: one more time to applaud yourself publicly (even though things are a disaster). it's like the waiter is bringing out your birthday dessert and everyone is singing happy birthday and the power goes out. But you're led by the candlelight and the show goes on.

-mars squares saturn very late on thursday the 15th: i have been having this transit natally (as saturn transits through pisces) and let me just say. nobody can tamp a bitch down like saturn. saturn begs you to reassess, reconfigure, restrategize, learn lessons..... when mars just wants you to blow up and act on your impulses. but the thing this mars square saturn transit has taught me is that sometimes a failure or a road blockage is protecting you from something you should not be getting into. accept the roadblocks as part of your journey and trust you will end up where you need to go.

-venus sailing through virgo throughout this week (no specific dates to note): asks us to critically interrogate our relationship patterns and desires. venus is in fall in virgo - so it's not the most comfortable easy energy, but it teaches us a lot. before venus can enter libra (domicile!), we have to think realistically and logistically about love, beauty, pleasure and so on.

lastly, sunday the 18th is pretty bumping- mercury squaring uranus, mercury also joining with the sun (cazimi!) and venus squaring jupiter very late in the evening. lots of competing energies here - you will be getting a LOT of incoming stimuli (especially drama filled info coming your way) and you have to keep yourself afloat. as mentioned in the weekly card, you will need recovery time to move the way you'll need to in the coming weeks. big things will be happening and it'll be easy to be overwhelmed this week into next week. write down your genius ideas, write down your loudest feelings that you want to express but don't need anyone to know about, set the stage for your new era(s) to occur. just remember to unplug and rest, too.

December 2022 Important Dates

AKA my notes on The Astrology Podcast's December forecast. Today’s episode is hosted by Chris Brennan, Austin Coppock, and Aerin Fogel.

November Recap: Elon Musk's acquiring of Twitter happened in the aftermath of the October eclipse in Scorpio, with some of the biggest chaos bookended by the eclipses. The blue checkmark impersonations are fit with the Mars retrograde in Gemini, where we expect to see mischievous doppelgangers. Our hosts also connect deceptions to the Jupiter-Neptune conjunction in April casting political confusion and spreading illusions throughout the year. The Taurus eclipse in November coincided with the US midterm election, with results that may have wide-reaching effects. The collapse of the FTX cryptocurrency exchange also coincided exactly with the lunar eclipse in Taurus, a follow-up to the Taurus solar eclipse earlier this year, when the Luna cryptocurrency (which had some of the same shareholders) collapsed. This is also part of the larger Uranus in Taurus story, where currency and banking have seen abrupt and dramatic changes. Austin points out that the Taurus-Scorpio eclipses this year have highlighted differences in material (earth) and liquid (water) assets--inflation is when material goods are much more valuable compared to the liquid asset of money.

December 1st - Venus (♐) opposes Mars (♊Rx) All the inner planets will oppose retrograde Mars as they transit Sagittarius, though Mercury has cleared this aspect by the first of the month. The Sun’s opposition to Mars a week later represents the culmination and halfway point of the retrograde. Our broader knowledge is being funneled into something specific. Here’s the Mars retrograde graphic from Stella on Reddit:

Mars retrograde in general connotes a bit of wild energy, and in Gemini may indicate shoulder/neck/upper back injuries specifically. This is also a time of harsh words, which can sometimes play out cathartically. Find the house(s) of your chart where Gemini falls to see which areas of life is affected for you personally. More about this in the December 7th Full Moon section.

December 3rd - Neptune (♓) stations direct This means an intensification of Neptune’s significations in Pisces. (A/N: think dissolution of the self, sacrifice, and idealistic dreams.)

December 6th - Mercury enters Capricorn Mercury has more impact that usual right now because he rules Mars in Gemini. In strategic, pessimistic Capricorn, Mercury prompts us to consider how the terrain has changed. He’s also going to retrograde in this sign at the end of the month and through much of January, prompting us to take stock of the game board and make a plan for success in the next round. More on this under Venus’s ingress and Mercury retrograde sections.

December 7th - Full Moon at 15 degrees of Gemini

Mars is conjunct this lunation at 16♊, with the lights are moving immediately towards their own aspects with him. In fact, Mars opposes the Sun within hours of the lunation. One signification is the “duderang”/men returning to people’s lives, and Aerin says to expect revelations as the lights illuminate Mars, whose conflicts may have been fuzzy from his square to Neptune.

Mars, especially in this sign, can be a contrarian: either playing devil’s advocate or a warrior refusing to enter the conflict. There’s an explosive berserker side and a side that leaves conflicts that aren’t serving us. Mars rx in Gemini also foreshadows the upcoming Uranus return of the USA, which enters large wars every time Uranus enters Gemini due to its own Gemini Mars. There have been significant tech layoffs as well; Mars is great for cutting things out. Physical associations with Mars include piercing or impact injuries and inflammation.

An idle Mars is a restless and destructive Mars, so it serves us well to channel Martial energy into something productive during his long trek through Gemini. Stagnant Mars is a fire waiting to happen, but at the same time we should be careful not to let the fire spread out of control. Get active, but don’t work out so hard you get injured. Children learn to say “No!” under their first Mars return--we may need to learn how and when to refuse. Is there even a prize if you win this fight? Be sure to consider tactics and strategy if you choose to engage. Gemini Mars can also manifest as being pulled in so many directions at once that we can’t move. Protests are another an outlet for Mars energy, which we’ve been seeing in the news.

December 8th - Sun opposes retrograde Mars Depending on your time zone, the Full Moon and Mars-Sun opposition likely occur on the same calendar day.

December 9th - Venus enters Capricorn Following Mercury’s ingress, Venus wants us to have value in the actions we take. We’re also now in the second half of the Mars retrograde, which makes it easier for us to take action. Most of Mars’s cards have been played already, so though the game continues, we can plan now that we know what we’re dealing with. See Mercury’s retrograde for details on Venus’s conjunction to Pluto later this month.

December 10th - Auspicious election of the month (not pictured)

This occurs around 12:35PM local time. Adjust until the Ascendant is at about 27 degrees of Pisces, with Jupiter nearby at 29 degrees. This day chart takes advantage of Jupiter’s last days in Pisces for the next ~11 years. The Moon is in domicile in Cancer and resides in the 5th (whole sign) house--known as the Place of Good Fortune in Hellenistic astrology--and trines Jupiter. The Moon has long since left her conjunction to Mars and the Sun is separating from an opposition with Mars. Unfortunately Mars is angular in the 4th house of this chart, though he’s not directly on Imum Coeli, and he squares Jupiter, who’s in the superior position/overcoming him. Venus in the 11th house bodes well for friends and groups, and she’s close to the Midheaven as well.

Jupiter in a strong position says “Yes” to our endeavors, and this chart specifically is good for starting new classes and winning contests. Jupiter also rules the 10th house and the Sun in this chart, helping not just careers but any of our outwardly-visible pursuits.

December 14th - Sun square Neptune

December 20th - Jupiter reenters Aries He’ll revisit territory he already covered this year (early May to October). Think bold. Aries Jupiter facilitates us to take decisive action, although with Mars retrograde acting on impulse isn’t always the best choice. Overall this transit will give us energy and focus that we didn’t have while Mars was in Pisces (and near Neptune). Jupiter in Aries teaches us like a sports coach rather than the compassionate wisdom of Pisces. Look to the Aries house of your chart for where this emerges. Although we have an impulse to action, our shots may not be on target and require revision; the chain of rulership is: Jupiter in Aries ruled by a retrograde Mars, who in turn is ruled by a retrograde Mercury. We’ll be learning by trial and error. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t act--sometimes we have to make mistakes in order to get it right.

December 21st - Sun enters Capricorn, squares Jupiter

December 23rd - New Moon in Capricorn This occurs soon after Jupiter’s ingress into Aries and emphasizes the Capricorn transits. (A/N: No chart and not much analysis from our hosts this time? So here is from astro-seek:)

December 29th - Mercury retrograde This station happens right on top of Pluto and with Venus nearby. Mercury’s station is also very close to the degrees of Venus’s station last December and the Pluto/Saturn/Jupiter mega-conjunction in 2020. Thus Mercury’s retrograde will likely reintroduce discussions and re-litigate issues from those times.  We’ll likely discuss the secrets of those in power again, as well as scandals around women and sex, events like Ghislaine Maxwell’s trial during Venus’s rx last year. Venus-Pluto signifies intense power plays, manipulation and control in relationship, and the inverse of feeling completely isolated relationally. It’s going to be a heavy New Year’s Eve. Venus is often dragged to the underworld against her will, and we may go through difficult transformations. But remember, this intensification is temporary and ends soon after! Back to Mercury, you may want to delay your New Years’ resolutions until after he stations direct mid-January; Capricorn is a great place to write things in stone...once we get past all the revisions.

We’re also finally reaching the end of the Saturn-Uranus square that has been plaguing us since 2020--nearly three years! The fixed signs will get some relief next year as Saturn enters Pisces and the eclipses begin shifting to the Aries-Libra axis. But we’ll get more on that in the 2023 year ahead forecast...

December 2022 INTUITIVE ASTROLOGY FORECAST

Right at the start of December, we have Neptune stationing direct. Neptune is an outer planet, which means it has more significant effects on the generations rather than on the self, but we’ll still feel the change. Neptune is the planet of inspiration and spirituality, so to have this planet no longer be in the backward motion of retrograde bodes well for taking action on something you’ve been daydreaming about. But don’t be surprised if this isn’t clear right away - Mercury (our planet of communication) and Venus (the planet of love and pleasure) square Neptune. So we may feel inspired to do something, but it might not be apparent right away as to what that is.

December is a big month in the stars! As the Winter Solstice and Capricorn season begins, there starts to be more light in our days! Capricorn is the season that marks longevity and the building of solid structures. Only a few days later, on the 23rd, we have a New Moon in Capricorn and Chiron stations direct. 

During Chiron’s retrograde, there may have been a lot of healing and shadow work, as this is the planet that illuminates our wounds. There is a shadow period for a few weeks after stationing direct, but you may find that the work you’ve done during the retrograde season actually feels like it’s healed parts of you. The last major transit of the year is Mercury stationing retrograde, December 29th. We know this is just a time to be extra cautious and is nothing to worry about. These two in opposition can bring inner aggression, especially since Mars is retrograde, but ultimately the agitation stems from a place of passion. Since Venus is the ruler of artistry, we could dive into our creative endeavors to balance the intense energy of this transit. Sagittarius is all about adventure, so doing something spontaneous, like going on a trip or a new adventure, could help also. If you are looking to meet someone new, it's highly possible under the influence of this transit.

Neptune stations Direct @ 22º Pisces

Neptune is our planet of spirituality, inspiration, and illusions. Over the last five months, we have experienced a strengthening of our intuitive and psychic abilities. Mercury enters Capricorn

Mercury is the communicator that helps us relate to the world in various ways. Capricorn is determined, ambitious, and disciplined enough to remain grounded in its pursuits. When Mercury enters Capricorn, direct communication, career, and goal-oriented are ways to describe this energy. Now is a great time to start thinking about what we would like to accomplish in our jobs/careers, primarily through journaling or talking about it with a trusted superior. We may feel more calculated, methodical, and patient in our endeavors; capitalize on that energy while we can! During this transit, our attention to detail increases, and our decision-making becomes much more rational than when Mercury traveled through Sagittarius. 

At the time Mercury enters Capricorn, it will be square Jupiter in Pisces, so there may be an increase in our schedules, plans, ideas, and conversations. Mercury in Capricorn is the perfect energy for planning and being frugal with our finance, especially during the holiday season. Full moons are also a time of release and letting go; something comes to a culmination with the energy of full moons. Keeping this in mind, coupled with the Gemini energy - what friendships are no longer serving you? How can you communicate clearly? What ideas or plans are coming to their fullness right now?

Gemini is the social butterfly and has a reputation for being two-faced, but really, Gemini is just an intellectual air sign - their opinions change! This full moon is a great time to think about your current social life, the communication within your relationships, and what ideologies you should let go of. Gemini rules how we communicate, our mental faculties, and information overall. Governing our respiratory system - the breath that gives us life; what can be let go of to feel alive again? Aries is fiery and strong-willed, and with a statement of "I am" for this sign - we may find ourselves very excited to make changes relating to how we identify ourselves and how we want to grow and develop as people. Jupiter first entered Aries in May 2022, and due to the retrograde phase, we are experiencing a "do-over" of the initial Jupiter in Aries energy that was felt briefly in the summer of 2022. The Sun represents many things: our personality, focus, authority figures, vitality, and creativity. Capricorn energy can also be perfectionistic, so try to incorporate some fun and lightheartedness into this season. The Sun will begin to square Jupiter at the beginning of the season, indicating more joy and boldness. As we gear up for our Capricorn New moon and Chiron stationing direct in a couple of days, it's essential to stay grounded in what matters most. With Mars being the dispositor of this big, expansive planet, this energy could be very much go big or go home. We know Mars is the one who wants to get shit done quick fast and in a hurry, and Jupiter being the adventurous, abundant planet it is, it's like "why not?!" Depending on where this transit is happening in your natal or progressed chart, don't be surprised when you focus alot of energy and power at once towards these areas of your life. For example, if it is going to transit your natal or progressed 2H, don't be surprised if you work and hustle to the bone while this transit is happening. Also look at other aspects this transit planet is making to your charts. For example, if transit Jupiter conjuncts your natal/progressed Venus, don't be surprised if you want to focus so much energy on your money, relationships, negotiating, philosophy of Venusian themes, and doing things to make you feel sensual and good. Mars makes it happen, Jupiter exacerbates this power.

I want to emphasize power because by the time Jupiter ingresses into Aries it will also be sextile Pluto rx & opposing the moon in Virgo. Yes it is good to get alot accomplished, but don't burn yourself out. Pace yourself in increments. Especially since Jupiter will also be conjunct Neptune as well. Don't fool yourself into thinking you're made of steel and you don't have to rest. You do, and you should. Possibly the opposing energy of the moon in Virgo could give us some realistic expectations, at least starting out.

Spiritual Responsibility

Yesterday I heard another astrologer say something so vile, so irresponsible that I went ballistic. So much so that a friend had to "talk me off the ledge." What she said was so damaging I will be doing a video this week to counter this content, and explain why I think it was so egregious.

This example is so reflective of today's astrology as Mars continues to conjunct Neptune in Pisces, but now at 25°, and Saturn in Aquarius (in semisextile to this conjunction) also moves to 25°. This is the grand master degree of Neptune/Pisces, and as such requires spiritual awareness, prowess and responsibility. It's a place where the karma is deeper as you cannot plead ignorance, and where ego self-importance cannot be the dominant energy.

It's a reminder that as you move forward (Mars) on this new path that you have "responsibilities (Saturn) that require you to rise above (Neptune) and respond from a higher place. As you traverse new situations, and encounter new energies that will tweak and trigger you, it is imperative you respond in responsible ways.

And especially today as Mercury (rx) in Gemini sextiles Jupiter in Aries at 1°, a Sun/Leo ruled degree. Respond from love. Be love, even as you encounter energies that are going to be less than loving.

And this is why many are called to this path, but few stay. It isn't the mental, emotional or physical responsibilities that demand the most, but the spiritual. Because no matter where you go, God Universe is there.

2022 Sagittarius New Moon

A quartet of Sagittarius placements all within each other’s reach: Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus. Nice to have almost everyone on the same page, for a change! At least for a little while! Like I said, we’re overflowing with good intentions right now. Which house holds that little Sag squad? Because that is where you should focus your efforts. Might help narrow your choices down!

One major challenge is the eventual opposition all those Sag placements will make, to Mars Rx in Gemini. The Red Planet hates being introspective - he’s a doer, not a thinker - but that’s exactly what is being asked of Mars, and consequently of us, at the moment. Sagittarius can also go off half-cocked, and we oughtn’t to do that right now.

There are squares to Ceres/Virgo (the Sun, however, won’t be square Ceres until after they’ve moved respectively into Capricorn and Libra), and to a similar clump of Pisces placements: Vesta, Juno, Jupiter, Nessus, and Neptune. (But note again that the Sun won’t officially square Jupiter until they’ve moved on into Cap and Aries, respectively.)

The ideal (as seen through the Pisces placements) versus reality (as felt through Ceres/Virgo): never the twain shall meet? While it’s true that perfection for humans is impossible - that just means there is always room for improvement.

To me this New Moon is all about maintaining optimism, generosity, and tolerance - in the face of an imperfect world. It’s in my 1st House, so I need to display this in my very bearing and in how I approach my life and the world.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help, share your thoughts, and consider the multiple options that come to mind.

Mercury, still in Taurus, forms a trine aspect with Pluto on 10/Jun and then enters Gemini on 13/Jun. Subsequently, Venus also enters Gemini on June 22, endorsing attitudes that allow us to be more open, interactive, mentally agile, and with a greater capacity for adaptation.

Despite the end of Mercury Retrograde, we have Saturn Retrograde on June 04 and Neptune on the 27, two slow planets that will impact the collective aspect.

Both will remain retrograde for a long time. Adding to Pluto Retrograde, these three planets will bring changes in the macro sphere. Hence, we can expect the return of restrictions we thought we had overcome but have a chance of troubling us again.

In the case of Saturn, which is in Aquarius and will retrograde until October 23, social and political issues concerning responsibility will feel an impact. Saturn in Aquarius upsets the collective in its rules, demands, and limitations. When Saturn is in Aquarius, we face problems in a naked and raw way. But also differently and originally.

Saturn RX in Aquarius reminds us that sometimes a disconnected wire won’t just cut the energy in your home, but a block or even an entire city depending on the case.
