inside u there are two wolves whovians. one wants intersexuality and references and obscure callbacks to long-forgotten DWM comic strips. the other one wants the show to not be so damn self-indulgent so it can actually attract new ppl and live on for a couple seasons after the new new labour austerity folk are done defunding the bbc.
#dw spoileres#sorry guys at that dw analysis YT channel's wordpress i left that slightly obnoxious comment at sdfkljdsf#i do get ur side. i feel it too. but like...the new doctors saying 'brave heart' still brings me immense joy. it's Important to me.#i get hating the way nerdity and 'cult tv' has degraded and been so commercialized today that it's not special or real anymore#(why i avoid marvel like the plague)#but like. i do think the indulgences in dw 91% of the time are genuine sdklfjdf#like re: rogue. i dont want rogue to be an old character. but im also not opposed to it if it Means something when it's revealed u know#execution counts

Your answer of Trick r Treat is the most valid
thank you!! its a recent watch for me, just earlier this month, but i truly think it's one of the best-told stories in horror like. ever. do you know all the lore? no! but it doesn't matter somehow. it's legit scary while still being funny and effortlessly interconnecting all these stories. plus i love sam that's my boy. so 10/10 forever and ever

Today in a history class the teacher was talking about early American industry and asked us “what is it the anniversary of?” meaning the triangle shirtwaist factory fire but my first thought (which I didn’t mean to say but it just came out) was “Episode Two of the Magnus Archives: Do Not Open”
I then immediately checked my phone to see if it was correct, it is. I RARELY EVEN KNOW WHAT DAY IT IS BUT I GUESS TODAY I MANAGED TO THINK “March 25, that’s the same day as do not open!” IN A SPLIT SECOJD
My friend was cracking up because of the pure Magnus nerdity going on
#reminds me of that time I almost wrote Robert smirke on a history test#the correct answer was NOT in fact Robert smirke#this was a US history test on the civil war#Robert smirke is nowhere to be seen but okay#tma#the magnus archives#tma podcast#tma joshua gillespie

Self Help keeps getting my undergrad psych major nerdity going. So I wanted to try and figure out the different therapeutic approaches Kristopher actually uses in his "Kristopher and Zenith" teachings:
K&Z is first introduced to us as a client-centered humanistic style. The “circle of healing” focuses on the therapist providing a space that allows for self-exploration rather than having an end goal.
When The Master shows up it begins to take on a more behavioral approach. Since he comes in guns blazing, Kristopher has to switch over to a style that focuses on his past and current environment. He had The Master “rename” himself, which is a form of externalization. or separating yourself from your negative emotions. Generally this is done in the opposite direction where you name your depression or anxiety, rather than naming yourself, but in the end they’re still separating the wanted aspects of themselves from the unwanted aspects. Having The Master write a letter to his past self(s) is also a behavioral approach rooted in mindfulness. If you fully know yourself, past and present, you’re able to be fully aware in the present moment.
The Master seems to believe in a psychoanalytic style, making that man a Freudian, and considering he comes from a race of telepaths it makes sense. The time lords wouldn’t believe in an “unconscious mind” since they can literally go in there and root around each other’s minds. This gives us an interesting idea of what therapy on Gallifrey would look like. Therapy only works if you believe it works and if we assume that The Master truly believes what he’s saying, then direct psychoanalytic problem-centered treatment seems to be commonplace there.
Kristopher seems to also realize this, when they talk to each other one on one he goes full on talk-therapy Freudian. He asks about his past, about his traumas, about his anxieties, trying to find his unresolved issues in order to bring to light repressed traumas.
From there he goes into radical acceptance, and starts Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. He tells The Master that his thoughts and mistakes are not to be paid attention to, he tells him that negative emotions are part of life. He tells him to accept himself and commit to a better, stable, future for himself.
It’s an interesting mix of different types of approaches, and considering Kristopher seems to be interested in money over anything, he’s very talented in creating strong therapist-client relationships.
#doctor who#the master#spymaster#call me master#big finish#There are also definitely other terms for things he does#like the chanting is probably something to the tune of EMDR#but ill just stop talking now :P

Yes, there is. Well ... sort of. I'mma get nerdy about Naruto lore for a second.
So in Naruto ninjas aren't exactly a culture themselves. There are greater kingdoms outside of the villages, for example konoha (leaf village) is located in the Country of Fire. The Ninja villages are basically elite troops who are semi born into their position. Not everyone in a hidden village becomes a shinobi but its the clans of those villages that they come from. In a way this, ironically, makes ninjas in Naruto kinda similar to feudal samurai.
One kingdom in the world of Naruto, The Country of Iron, doesn't use ninja. Instead they make use of their own elitely trained people who are samurai (note: They are pretty constantly depicted as worse than ninja because they're not the protags, so calling them "elite" doesn't actually match with their abilities in canon). TBH the distinction is not made super clear. They appear to wear heavy armor but some ninja do that too. IMO they only exist so that they can have generic troops in full body armor for some of the last arcs.
Boruto actually has an "exchange student" to the hidden leaf village from the country of fire.
Tsubaki Kurogane. Although, I should note she's actually not in the manga only the anime (Boruto's anime and manga are pretty divergent though)
And ... to be honest ... while she's one of the Boruto designs I do like, she doesn't make any sense. With these being the elite troops of their kingdom and having fiercely guarded techniques (a fact demonstrated all the way in the first chapter of Naruto) why have an exchange student? Why teach the secrets of your style to an elite troop of another land? Like, I do understand that the end of Naruto was meant to bring about a greater era of peace and cooperation and you can say "Well it's a sign of friendship between the two lands" and I guess.
But like. If it's really such an era, why are shinobi and samurai still around? Obviously they must believe that such tranquility will not last forever so is it really a good idea to ... okay no. I'm thinking too hard about a justification for a character who actually is fun. I've gone too far into nerdity.

I don't think I've put anything like this in fics yet but I love perfumes intermixing with my nerdities so I'm going to share this other brand that makes hazbin/helluva inspired fragrances, because a lot of them sound really nice and interesting. If I had more money this is what I'd waste it on.

I saw your message on the post about webcomics and you mentioned you were an avid reader of various webcomics. Do you have a top 10 to look at?
Top ten? Ugh... that's hard... hmmm...
Comics I never stopped keeping up with despite it being difficult or inconvenient:
Sluggy Freelance - This will not be for everyone, Pete's art isn't very good at first, but it gets better pretty quickly. It has a twenty-six year archive though so dive in at your own time risk. Very mixed between "days in the lives of a pair of nerd pals" and "weird high adventure". Schlock Mercenary - Another that starts not so very pretty art wise, but Howard gets better fast. It has a roughly twenty year seven day a week archive that never missed an update, but Schlock Mercenary has ended so you will eventually catch up. Follows the trials and tribulations (and exhultations) of a space mercenary company and it's titular Sergeant who looks like a pile of poo... the comic dumps the crude humour pretty quickly. Girl Genius - The art was starts good and gets better, but then Phil Folio was n artist and a comic artist for decades before he started on Girl Genius. It also has a twenty-one year archive, but it only updates Mon-Wed-Fri so it's not as deep as the above two. Consistently good story about a gaslamp hero all the way through, but it has side-comic interruptions which have only tangential relationships with the main story.
Freefall - Decent consistent art throughout. Twenty-five year archive, but it's also Mon-Wed-Fri, so it's also not too bad to get into to. Follow the adventures of a solo rapscallion alien in human space and his AI sidekicks (a robot and upraised wolf). Deals deeply with AI rights and what it means to be "human".
Atomic Robo - Written by Brian Clevinger of 8-Bit Theater fame and arted by Scott Wegener of... well Atomic Robo fame (also some Marvel comics, but they're not as important). It's hard to say how deep the archive is as it's organized like a series of comic books, because it was originally issued as comics, but eventually went online to spread readership. There are currently roughly 80 comics, so that's the archive. It follows the adventure of the titular Atomic Robo and his team of fighting Action Scientists as they repeatedly act to save the world from various mad and sometimes just angry scientists.
Other comics I follow, some more recent, some older, all current:
Fantasy/D&D webcomics: The Abominable Charles Christopher; Handbook of Heroes; Rusty & Co; Fairmeadows, Order of the Stick; Swords; Friendship is Dragons; Sunderhunt; Dungeon Doodles; Sunderhunt; The Littlest Warrior; Prequel†; Use Sword on Monster†; Oglaf‡ Sci-Fi and Post-Apoc webcomics: Kill Six Billion Demons‡; Ten Thousand Earth Shattering Blows; Darth & Droids; Bicycle Boy; Rising Sand, Blue Milk Special†; Outsider†, PS238†
Slice of Life/Meta-commentary on gaming culture webcomics: Girls and Slingshots; Something Positive, Full Frontal Nerdity; Penny Arcade
Comics that have ended because they are now print, but look them up if you can because they were awesome: Sin Titulo; Templar, Arizona I was going to put The Abominable Charles Christopher here too, but then I remembered it's been updating lately and I really need to catch back up with it ...
† Sporadic or slow update "schedule". ‡ NOT SAFE FOR WORK

this weekend i made bestie watch into the spiderverse. she is not only not interested in superhero movies, she is not a nerd... any nerdity in her life has come from me. so i had to really force her to watch this one even though i've been bugging her to do it since opening weekend. and NACHERALLY immediately she was like "okay so when are we going to see the sequel?" the answer was yesterday, and we had to meet in dayton to do it (do not go to dayton recreationally, it's just roughly halfway between columbus and cincinnati). and it is... such a delight to see movies with twists and shit with people who are not terminally online. i wasn't spoiled on anything because i saw it opening weekend but she just looked at me when it was done like "WHERE IS THE REST OF THE MOVIE" and she was already weeping at the gwen reconciling with her dad scene even before i told her about the trans stuff. she screamed when miles 42 came out. delightful.

short-term goals:
get serious about Musicianship (fine, don't call it a "career" if that stresses you out any less)
become a regular at weekly karaoke night at that bar that is within walking distance; keep practicing Grace Kelly and make it your signature song
continue being active in local kink scene (great start last night! let's keep it rolling)
begin semi-regular solo trips to Chicago
touch base with old voice teacher, tell her i'm a baritone now, and at least discuss starting private lessons over zoom (no hurry on that; time and money are stupid, stupid factors as always)
form a healthier relationship with le cannabis (try and make it a Sometimes Food)
start a public-facing youtube channel (god help me)
ask standup-comic coworker about local open mics (just for funsies; we REALLY don't want to make a career out of that one)
finish novel (GET YOUR FUCKING COMPUTER FIXED, or at least the hard drive salvaged. first half of chapter 3 is still on there)
build my own desktop PC
give my wardrobe a gradual overhaul. dress like the rock-n-roll transfag you are
start that podcast with @magnaflourious-nerdity (i know it's been ages since we talked about that, but i still wanna do it, and i have Ideas) (also read that fucking mcelroy book you bought; if nothing else, it'll probably be funny) (and there's a sidnee chapter about reasearch!)
get my eyebrow pierced, and also MORE TATTOOS (yes, we still want those sleeves) (sidenote: my view on the whole jews + tattoos situation is, as always, Consent Matters)
continue working on mental and physical health (keep working with new therapist; get new PCP; get surgeries, etc) (oh god don't get scared)
embrace your identity as an otter; continue gradual bear transformation
maybe go to some cons? definitely look into close-ish furry ones. (ALWAYS double-mask if you do decide to go)
continue masking in public, even outside when there's no one around (remember how much better your allergies were during lockdown year?) (also keep wearing the decorative venom mask atop the KN95, just because)
make friends. build local community. the munch already gave you a head start. maybe definitely also try to AT LEAST establish civil relations with Upstairs Neighbor
try and find local activism to do (neighborhood community center, LGBTQIA+ community center)
find a ttrpg group to join (quiltbag center again; i know you freaked out that one time due to social anxiety and stopped going due to work and also social anxiety, but the well is NOT poisoned there. try again)
lots more crafting (keep up with the crochet, join stitch 'n' bitch groups, do some slow and deliberate knitting maaaaaaybe start working on that blanket again, eventually), other stuff as dictated by whim and circumstance
stay the course on exit strategy/career change
continue building Housekeeping skills (git gud at cleaning, start cooking again) because you're gonna need them after [redacted]
message [redacted] about [redacted]
[redacted] (rip the damn bandaid off already. tomorrow.)
you're also gonna have to tell your parents about that sooner or later. goddamn it all to hell
long-term goals:
lots more solo travel (definitely cali, maaaaybe texas--maybe just get a hotel in austin and fly or take train directly there and back--and other places as desired (india, scandinavia, japan, australia and/or aotearoa [again, to shake off the baggage of that one bad trip, and hit up the LOTR landmarks we didn't get to linger on]); THEME PARKS (what-the-fuck-ever, no ethical consumption
lots of Seeing Live Music (lest we forget, that is our religion, above and beyond the judaism even). find at least one local band to become non-creepily obsessed with. treat yourself to a big arena show now and then (masked, always)
continue Being More Jewish. learn yiddish. find a schul that doesn't suck. read that Book of Customs and try practicing them solo. maybe dabble in some light mysticism (kabbalah or whatever?) the witchy streak remains in us despite it all
date people. fuck people. explore kink to the full extent that your slutty little heart desires. we have no excuse not to at this point.
keep in touch with all our various long-distance friends
[REDACTED]
eventual full cali move??? let's not be too impulsive there. (almost certainly not los angeles; we have decided to fully commit to the Not Driving. probably somewhere in the northern half of the state. although we should definitely visit LA, just to be sure, and for other reasons)
record that podfic, eventually (ow)
(circle back to [redacted]. maybe. eventually. let yourself grieve. we truly do not know what the future holds.)
maintain delicate balance re: family of origin. build relationships with niblings while remaining out of contact with Bro (definitely keep sending them mail) (Local Zoo is good option for extremely short-term overnight babysitting situations) (heed the wise words of Wanda Sykes: "they're not your kids!!!!!!")
Be Yourself. keep becoming more Yourself each day. let Yourself change as he desires.
heal from past trauma and shit
stay alive and get old as balls, or at least stick around long enough to collect on your dad's life insurance (probably won't have too long to wait on that; he's already, what, 70? maybe 10 years tops) (ok let's not jinx it)
KEEP HOPE ALIVE BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY
#yeah we always hated 'goals' as a general concept#but it's one thing when your terrible mlm-in-paperthin-disguise job is making you set them#and quite another when they are Only For You
