A piece I made for NinjaPetalZines as part of their Dan Avidan Zine 💙❤️ I was so happy to have received the Magnum Bullets prompt, as I have always LOVED that song, the music video and its aesthetics!! Back to Mordheim, yes, yes!

So a looooong while back I made this post https://www.tumblr.com/blog/view/zanshlou/640279315791118336?source=share of the Moebians from the Starlight Brigade music video. And at the end of the post I mentioned wanting to do the same for the wolves from the Magnum Bullets video also animated by Knights of the Light Table. Well didn’t expect to sit on the project for a year and a half but HERE THEY FINALLY ARE! The details for the wolves were a bit more sparse than the Moebians. I had a harder time finding information to work with when building out the lore so I did a lot more winging it and filling in the gaps on my own for this one. One of the hardest things to decide on was the name. I couldn’t just call them “wolves” and tried to think of different things to call them (all referenced in that first paragraph of lore on their page) but eventually decided to combine “Cyber Wolf” into just Cywulv. I think it has a cool sound to it. Things I did find information about and learn though from various sources: - The city the video takes place in is called Auster - The naming convention of the wolves is in fact based on the symbols on their head with the three central figures in the video being Tri(angle), Square, and Star. - Originally Star was an X and there’s some early concept art of her with the X shaped symbol but they decided to change it to distance from Sony’s Playstation trademark on the X, Square, Circle, Triangle formation. - The video is left ambiguous about relationships between the characters but the intention was that Star and Square are siblings and that Circle and Tri were romantic. - The wolves seen in the ending image with the group of them (that I used in the top right of the first page) all have names; and the post about that is what I used to fill out the Names section for the race. - Not going to list all of it but there’s a lot of neat little details and symbolism throughout the video present in the background and stuff that one might miss just regularly watching through it that became much more clear when watching through at 0.25 speed trying to get good screenshots (most of which didn’t even get used XD) I have a few more things like this I’m working on. One more race based on an existing property that I want to do. One based on a shit post that I did actually finish though I’m not sure if I’ll post. Then a whole bunch of ideas based around a single mechanic that I think would make for a cool race and am still fleshing out the ideas for. Hopefully won’t take another year and half for me to post them up.

I'm sharing this one partially because I like it and I like storytelling songs just in general, and partially because it has a set of lyrics that kind of piss me off because I wish I had written it.

Running in shoes that shine / with blood that isn't mine / A staining trophy of the battles I've survived.

There's just something about the simple but evocative language in the first two phrases, and how it kind of feels incomplete without the third bit that really works for me, but I couldn't tell you what or why. Stuff like this makes me wish I was good at poetry.
