A Song From The Heart
For @the-painted-siren https://www.tumblr.com/the-painted-siren An AU of an AU for the Ninjago Secret Summer OC Exchange.
The dim lights from the theater added a soft glow to the overall techno-punk atmosphere inside the venture.
A young woman with her hair tied up in a braid observed the room with a quirked smile while her partner was more focused on the other patrons.
“It sure was nice of the people at the ticket booth to give us a discount,” the blond boy clad in green said. “They must understand how crucial this mission is after I explained why we needed to come inside.”
The girl’s half-smile molded into an amused smirk. “Maybe, or they just recognized us as the Ninja that saved Ninjago for the tenth billionth time and decided to give us special treatment.” Her eyes caught sight of a merchandise stall. “Hey, you wanna go buy an overpriced t-shirt of the musician everybody’s here to see?”
“We’re here on business, Lyra.”
Lyra feigned a pout. “Oh, but we never get to do anything fun.”
Lloyd’s emerald eyes widened in alarm. “What? But last week we went out—”
“I’m kidding, Greenie.” She playfully shoved him for good measure. “I know our Ninja-ing comes first. So, where are we supposed to find this new Master of Time?”
The young man held up a round item that resembled a pocket watch but it had only one hand and was pointing in one direction no matter where he moved. At that moment, the device directed its arrow in front of the couple. “According to Master Wu’s Elemental Compass, they should be around here somewhere.”
Lyra rolled her eyes. “That’s helpful.”
“You should’ve seen how we used to find Elemental Master without a Compass,” Lloyd recalled. “It took way longer.”
“So, which way is it pointing to now?”
“It just keeps pointing to the stage.” He looked up but saw nothing. Not even any stagehands setting up for the concert. “But I don’t understand why—”
Lloyd didn’t get to finish as he was cut off by an announcer.
“Ladies, gentlemen, and people of non-specific genders, it’s time for the show. Give it up for Calem Kahale!”
Suddenly the stage lit up with bright colors of red and gold. Beneath a trap door, an elevator pushed upwards, revealing a young man dressed like a punk biker holding a guitar in his hands.
When the young man smiled Lloyd felt his heart rate go up in a way that only happened when he was around Lyra. “Oh.”
“Oh?” Lyra ceased looking at the stage to stare inquiringly at Lloyd. “Do you think that’s him?”
Lloyd wordlessly nodded, mesmerized by the song the performer played.
Lyra turned to look back at the singer as a smile began to play on her lips. She wondered where this was going and how much fun she could have.
 💚
Calem remembered he need to look at the audience while he played and chose to settle his gaze on one spot in the crowd of people. He let out a small gasp after his eyes met the greenest orbs he ever saw. The rest of the face that the eyes belonged to were quite the sight to behold as well. Without thinking Calem found himself drawn to the young man standing in the pit in front of the stage. He stepped forward, not really thinking straight (haha), and accidentally took one foot over the ledge.
Oh, that was stupid, was a thought that went through Calem’s head along with the regret he didn’t get the chance to ask for the cute guy’s phone number before he began to fall.
 💚
Lloyd and Lyra wasted no time in quickly moving around the shocked crowd when Calem tripped over the stage’s edge. Both Ninja was experienced enough to know with how short the platform was to the ground they wouldn’t reach the musician in time and save him from the fall. Still, it was in their nature to help when they could, and were in for a surprise when they saw something out of the ordinary.
“He’s slowing down,” Lyra observed, watching Calem’s body moving at a snail’s pace with each passing second. He was now less than a foot away from the ground and by the girl’s estimate, he might reach it in two minutes.
“That’s our man—I mean, Ninja—uh—” Lloyd stammered after catching himself making that entendre.
“I know what you mean, Lloyd.” Lyra playfully rolled her eyes.
Instead of rushing towards Calem the couple instead simply walked up to his semi-floating body and took a hold of his arms. The moment they did so the young man’s elemental powers deactivated, and time moved normally around him once again.
“Hey,” Calem said breathlessly to the people who “saved” him.
“Hey.” Lloyd shot back.
“Sup,” Lyra chimed in. “You okay there, bud? Not in any pain, are you?”
“Yep, uh-huh.” I just got saved by two good-looking people, that’s all. “No, I mean I’m fine. Thank you.”
“After you finish the rest of your show, we’d like to talk with you backstage if that’s not too much to ask.” Lloyd was quick to notice the large group of onlookers staring in awe at them.
“Please, um, by all means. My manager will let you in.”
 💚
Calem almost spat out his water after hearing the full story. “Wait, you two are part of the Ninja team?”
Lloyd exchanged stares with Lyra before looking back at the musician. “Yes, just like I said we want to offer a proposition. What else would we mean?” he asked, referring to the rest of the conversation that had since visiting Calem in his dressing room. Alone. With no one else to bother them.
Lyra, however instantly got the connotation of what Calem interpreted after seeing him blush at the previous mention of the word proposition. She laughed out loud before speaking to her visibly confused boyfriend. “Oh, Lloyd, you sweet summer child. You truly are a Goofus in the best way.”
“What else would you…” Lloyd trailed off for a moment once the realization kicked in. “Oh, you meant—seriously?!”
“Oh, FSM!” Lyra laughed so hard she thought she was going to pee.
Calem blushed harder than Lloyd currently was. “I’m sorry! I just—I’m not used to two attractive people who saved me from a severe head injury suddenly taking an interest in me. Did I just say two attractive people out loud?” Man, Calem must be suffering from a head injury worse than he thought.
Lyra thankfully managed to calm down after wiping away a tear from her eyes and evaluated Calem. “Wow, your personality doesn’t match your look at all.”
“It’s my stage persona. It’s supposed to make me look cool and mysterious.” Yes, he was very cool and mysterious looking from how he was bringing his knees close to his chest and had cheeks redder than an apple.
“Which I guess you’re neither of those things IRL.”
“Lyra.” Lloyd frowned in disproval.
“What I still think he’s adorably dorky in a hot kinda way?” Her casual response did nothing to prevent Calem from flushing into a deeper shade of crimson. “And it seems like you are too, Mister Beet Red.”
The Green Ninja grumbled at her but was unable to hide his reddened face.
“Anyway, before any further misconceptions are made, I’ll cut to the chase and ask if you’d like to train alongside us.”
Calem appeared torn by the suggestion. “Oh, uh….”
Lloyd, not wanting the young man to reject their offer then made a compromise. “But you can still perform as a musician when you aren’t busy training or helping us fight.”
Lyra nodded but added warily, “Fair warning though, it’s been about a month since the last time we fought the latest bad guy bent on taking over the world or destroying it. So, we’re probably due for the next one to show up pretty soon.”
“But you won’t be fighting anyone just yet until you’ve finished your training,” Lloyd hastily included.
Calem chewed his lower lip, still hesitant to answer. “Can I have some time to think it over?”
“I mean, you’re the new Master of Time so you have all the time in the world. Right?” Lyra winked at him after making the lame pun, causing him to turn red again.
“Yes, you can. But you can keep in touch with us,” Lloyd extended his hand for Calem to shake. The other boy accepted it with no problem.
Lyra smiled, wryly. “Meaning Lloyd here totally would like to date you.”
“Lyra!” Lloyd was aghast at his girlfriend’s comment.
Her grin turned into a full-on smirk and asked, “Is that not what I’m reading here?”
“I mean—I do think he’s cute but—ugh!” Lloyd threw a hand over his face.
“You think I’m cute?” Calem’s tone sounded hopeful.
“‘Course we do,” Lyra answered with a genuine beam. “You wouldn’t happen to be busy later, are you?”
Calem bashfully shook his head no.
Lloyd, deciding to just roll with Lyra’s obvious matchmaking, then made another proposal to Calem, but a much more personal one this time. No, not that kind of proposal. “If you are not put off by my partner’s teasing, we would like to spend more time with you.”
“And just to be clear this isn’t a ploy to join our team. Unless you think I’m talking about a different team.” She added a wink for good measure.
“I think you’re going to confuse him,” Lloyd deadpanned.
“Oh, no I got it.” Calem nodded. “Yes, I would like to spend more time with you if that’s okay with you.”
Lyra shrugged. “I’m Poly and Lloyd’s Bi so I think we can work this out.”

So I borrowed the Elemental Compass idea from Ren [https://www.tumblr.com/the-ninja-legacy-whip]. It’s a literal plot device and I love it. XD

Joined a Ninjago Secret Santa exchange this year and was given the opportunity to draw and learn about some awesome Ninjago oc's by @the-chaotic-anon (right) and @sharksandjays (left)
[ID: A drawing of Fynn and Lars, two Lego Ninjago original characters. Fynn is a brown haired person with light skin. He is wearing a yellow scarf around his neck and a brown puffy coat and matching gloves. He's holding a pink present in his hands. Lars is a hazel and pink haired person, wearing a pink coat over a darker pink shirt. They are excited leaning into Fynn from his left. Holly plants border the pair. A giant pink bow hangs above them. There are white sparkles scattered around the drawing. \End ID]

Soooo. AU explanation time.
I've lost my mind, I've gone insane, so sorry in advance.
Pretty much, the setup is Nexoknights High School AU but they're all exchange students headed to the Ninja's (the Movie ones, because I actually quite like the Ninjago Movie, I just have to see it as a cannon HS AU).
I like to imagine that these guys have a problem sitting the fuck down and letting the ninja do their jobs, so they manage to repeatedly one-up them.
On the topic of outfits, I feel like they're all kind of modded school uniforms in a way. That being said, I don't think the Knight Academy has a 'Uniform' outside of training, but I think they have a very strict dress code, and I think it just kind of stuck.
Yes, the OC (Milo Moornington) was necessary.

An updated version of my boi and some details refined! Even if the twst oc fandom isn’t what it was at the height of the hype, I’m still glad I had the chance to make and share him. (my friend also made the comment that he’s gotten ‘thicc-er’ since i last drew him lmao)
I’m definitely going to use him in other projects other than twst-related things because I enjoy his design so much.
(shameless self promo moment: consider looking at my stuff on @jpdrawsalot if you’d like! I like minecraft, ninjago, and assorted other interests among other things and personal works >:] alrighty self promo over lol)

>Socially awkward... he didn't socialise much when they were younger
>Definitely sewed those trousers themself
>Duo tail :3 (they often wrap them into one so they don't get in the way)
Calyx (Voltron oc)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-so the one thing that really annoyed me about how Voltron was created was there was no prototype, they had no physical proof that the project would work, so here is the fix!
-The white lion was a prototype for the voltron project, and it is smaller and less finished than the other lions, however it was supposedly 'destroyed' when the other lions were sent away
-the trash planet that it was stored on lead a group of refugees, including a white paladin, to use it to protect themselves and create a safe place, near the edge of the known universe away from the Galra. this soon became a place full of refugees and soon a trade planet for rebellions and resistances, the views they follow mean that the planet is almost entirely cash-free and relys more on trade than buying.
Calyx
-Calyx is very anti-establishment and watches over the entry ways and trade route, making sure that theres no-one suspicious coming in or out, however upon inheriting the lion, they feel as if it wants to find the others, causing them to find Allura's castle and the others during the season 1 finale.
-the white lion relys mainly on stealth and tracking, so they stay in the background for a while
-Calyx also has mild chronic pain and uses a wheelchair sometimes, they also use braces and tech to ease the pain
Tumblr media
Oberon Starlu
(He/She)
6'1'
The Elemental Master of Anima. He is a part Oni as well.
Their abilities include talking to animals and staking on abilities and features of animals, though not fully, as that would come under form.
She was first introduced in the tournament of elements, and stays close to the ninja after, often helping keep the monastery running while their away.
Before the tournament they were close to Bolobo, living in the same farming village. During TOE they get close to Griffin, Neuro and Shade. They’re Very close to Griffin. :)
His Oni blood is very diluted, the only reminder of this is their horn(s).
This image is of their outfit during TOE
Tumblr media
Lumi! (Ninjago OC)
(She/They)
I tried to make her the opposite of everything wyldfire is, She grew up in a high class family that was close to the ninjago royal family. Though she holds herself like she sees herself hightly, shes quite shy and is a bit of a recluse. through her family she learnt basic sword skills. after the merge she went to the crossroads, eventually meeting Arin, Sora, Euphrasia and Wyldfire.

60 Question OC asks
For Ivy Crest: 1, 33, and 59
For Ruth Whispernight: 7, 39, and 55
And for Elizaabeth Chumsworth: 15 & 16, 35, and 44
Toasty you have spoiled meeeeee. Multiple questions AND three characters AND two of them are prev gen? I am flattered and honored /gen
Let's go!
Ivy Crest
1: Gonna go off the specifier thing here and gonna also say it depends on where she is in her life. When she's still living with her mom? She's saving her mother's ring because she knows the value her mom places on it. Once she's living with Ronin... I would say she goes for R.E.X. or her lockpicking kit. Ivy doesn't have a lot of possessions that are hers per se, she doesn't form material attachments because she's used to exchanging things, so her stuff rotates out frequently. Although, post her and Luna meeting, she would absolutely save any gifts Luna has given her. Those are the first and only things she locks away and doesn't allow anyone else access to. Ronin understands that if he so much as glances at them wrong Ivy will blow him into the sea (he wouldn't dream of it. well maybe a little. but he wouldn't actually do it.)
33: Worst injury... hmm... honestly, I need to go back and do her fight scenes bc I wanna give her a few in S5 but the one I know for sure (and thus her worst injuries) are when Morro steals the Scroll of Airjitzu and she goes after him. She:
Singlehandedly tries to fight a bunch of ghosts and gets tossed about for her troubles
Singlehandedly is trying to get the ninja to back off too
Does parkour across Stiix, gets to the dock and jumps into the freezing cold water
is almost drowned by strangleweed
Needs a lot of warm tea and blankets after Ronin and R.E.X. rescue her, so it's convenient that she helps Ronin get Kai to give up all of the Ninja's Steep Wisdom shares :D
Nothing terrible, but that will definitely change :) (threat)
59: Building a better life, whatever that looks like.
Before her mother died, Ivy wanted them to be stable. She learned to cook and clean and anything else to make her mom smile. Her mom smiling meant everything was okay, because she so rarely smiled when Ivy was a child.
Once her mother passed and she was living on her own, it was just survival. A better life was one where she wasn't hungry or cold. Then Ronin found her, and a better life became prestige and the promise of a house on a hill, bought with their ill-gotten funds. Once Luna is in her life, that plan becomes a bit more honest and includes Luna too.
Ivy's biggest dream and motivator is the idea of a better life than the one she had before. She wants peace and love and a home she can relax in, with her family. And she'll never admit it to anyone, but it's that dream that keeps her going on the cold, hard days. On the days when she just wants to give up like her mother did. She just thinks of a warm house, a luxury that felt impossible to her as a child.
Clears throat. I love you, Ivy. Time to go insane over some moms.
Ruth Whispernight
7: How do I put this... so Ruth has committed murder and kidnapping, but it was an act of self-defense.
See, Ruth is what is called the Wisp. The mythology surrounding her bloodline is that they are the scale-balancers of Ninjago. They keep light and dark in balance when the natural order fails, basically subtly influencing others to do things to create balance. They manage this from a sequestered forest in Hiroshi's Labyrinth which mortals should not traverse into (and may or may not be why so many people go missing in there.) Unfortunately, people still try and accidentally stumble into the Wisp's Forest.
Which is what some foolish explorers did one day while trying to map that forsaken place. Willow knew her duty and carried it out. So yeah. Oopsies. She has confessed this to only 1 person though and that was an explorer she met while looking outside her forest for other trespassers, but Ruth couldn't murder her because they became best friends and she never actually saw the forest, so it was okay!
39: Hear me out: she really wishes she was better at manipulation.
Her duty is very dependent on the ability to influence both good and evil people to do things and she doesn't have an elemental ability to make this easier. She has the ability to sense things and monitor the world, but otherwise it's up to her to figure out what she has to do. Ruth was born and lived in the Forest her entire life, like most other Wisps. Her social skills are actually 0 and it's a blessing that Naomi just thought she had mad neurodivergent swag like the rest of her friends. Ruth has communicated only with animals, and they tend to be very direct, so she is also very direct, which then makes it hard to persuade them.
55: Naomi, hands down. Naomi is Ruth's best friend and confidante. Naomi is the only one Ruth trusts enough to tell that she's the Wisp. Ruth admires Naomi. She's brave, headstrong, unafraid, and crafty. Naomi is a warrior. Whereas Ruth is encouraged to meddle in the shadows, Naomi faces things head-on. Ruth admires that she is more active than other mortals she's seen.
On top of that, Naomi teaches Ruth to be human. Naomi is the reason Ruth leaves the Forest and breaks the precedent set by her ancestors. Naomi fascinates and inspires Ruth so much with her simple human traits that Ruth literally upends her entire life for her and only goes back when it's apparent their relationship is over.
Other than that? less look up to and more is fascinated by Garmadon. His vacillation between light and dark grabs her attention. Doesn't so much look up to him as wants to study him. They aren't really friends, but she definitely asks Naomi about him so much that Naomi suspected something else was going on.
Phew, Wisp lore my beloved. Sorry if this one was a bit messier as I just reworked it, but I was happy to talk more about it and Ruth!
Elizabeth Chumsworth
15: Adventurous and curious! First and foremost, Elizabeth considers herself a researcher. That has always been her passion. However, when she's a bit older and gets the chance to reconnect with Nataly, she would also describe herself as a mother who loves her daughter deeply. She's simple, she enjoys her studies and loves her little girl (said little girl was in her 20s when they met again, still little).
16: A bright-minded girl with a lot of ideas and very little self-preservation. Her time with the previous EMs was defined a lot by her going up to them and dumping random insane lore she knows, specifically about the serpentine. She was known for doing dangerous or potentially risky things in search of information. Before the Serpentine War she asked permission to do an ethnographic study of serpentine culture in their villages and got approval from some Anacondrai. Then the war broke out and they were like "we might keep you here" and she went "oh this is fascinating! if i promise not to tell can i sit in on war meetings?" and everyone stared at her like she was covered in fur. She got to sit in on those meetings supervised btw, being the master of love does give you a certain amount of irresistibility. Very posh advisor who dreamed of doing more kept an eye on her to make sure she wasn't doing anything suspicious. His name was Pythor and they got along swimmingly :D
35: She wasn't sure if she wanted children at first. There was always the question of if she could do her work with a child, but she always figured that was a question for later. Then, she got pregnant, a huge shock that she had to come to terms with while her husband was being sealed away in a tomb and she was being tried for treason, but the answer soon became an unequivocable "yes." she loves Nataly with all her heart and soul and one of her biggest regrets is that she wasn't able to raise her herself.
44: Elizabeth is not above lying, but most of the time she doesn't have to. Her powers as the master of love include the ability to persuade people to do what she says, though this does not guarantee they will do it. Still, she relies on that as opposed to out and out lying.
One thing she won't do though is break a promise. If she promises you something, she means it. She promised the serpentine the information she gathered in her research would be strictly used for educational and historical purposes under her supervision, and she kept that promise. Her writings from the war were only published years later when she got out of Kryptarium and donated them to the Ninjago Museum of History, kept safe and hidden until then by her friend, Twyla.

One Master's Trash, Another Master's Treasure
Summary: 3k rambling about the value of certain things among different people. For Lloyd, life is precious. For Elias, it's the opposite. Hey, hey, holy smokes! It's a gift for @butterpony100 and their oc Elias - Master of Carbon! I hope I got them in character for you, friend. I don't know if Lloyd and Eli ever become enemies at any point in your development for them but I thought I'd try to write some character introspection on them to the best of my ability.
Warnings: suicidal ideation, it’s prevalent.
“The Death Flute is an artifact of the utmost danger…” the passage in Eli’s book reads out.
Rotted, brown leaves gather around their heels as they make their way down one of the quieter streets of Ninjago City. It’s peaceful—or, as peaceful as Ninjago City can be. Less distracting, perhaps, as the houses and shops settle close to each other on the narrow paved way, adorned with strings of flowers and fairy lights.
“Crafted by the infamous Witch Morta, its song can call upon the warriors of the Underworld in exchange for a hefty price.”
Eli can’t help the smile pulling at their lips as they study those carefully constructed words again and again.
Over the years, they’ve been met with disappointment, false alarms, and fraudulent rumors. They’ve gone through every possible method of finding their means to an end and the world has foiled them time and time again. A life lived as long as the one they have has left them between a rock and a place of resentment for their existence.
Whether or not Morta’s Death Flute has what it takes to end that existence… Well, as unsettling as it is to hear, an odd sort of faith falls into Eli’s chest with this one, they know they’ll have to see it through.
And perhaps, set it aside until later. Until after they’ve bought a cup of coffee.
They snap their book shut, their smile turning into a grin as they continue with a nearly unnoticeable skip in their step.
Few things in this soul-sucking hell world bring Eli joy. But a good book? A rich cup of coffee? They never fail to make an average day much better. And Eli more than plans on making this day better.
They soon round the corner toward their favorite coffee shop—a quaint, little place helmed by a shopkeeper wrinkled like a raisin, dusky and dim and hushed on a slow afternoon. Eli can feel themself relax as they take everything in. The thick, bitter, and sweet scents, the clinking of spoons and mugs, and the sight of the Green Ninja sitting at the center table.
‘Oh, sh-’
Nope.
Eli hurriedly darts into the store, quick to hide behind a stacked display of coffee beans. Their heart rises into their throat, pounding away with the strength of a mallet taken to a living room wall. Though it takes a moment, Eli grits their teeth and forces themself to inhale a deep breath. They’re not afraid—not even close. But if the Green Ninja sees them here, then they’re in for a destructive tangle.
Such a thought causes irritation to stab through them. If Lloyd Garmadon destroys Eli’s favorite coffee shop, there will be hell to pay. That thought follows them, even as they peer over at their enemy.
Lloyd lightly converses with a dark-haired stranger—a date, most likely—who speaks in low, soft tones. They seem enamored with each other, so much that they ignore their respective drinks in favor of their company. Lloyd himself slouches forward onto the table, a goofy grin opening out across his practically sparkling face.
Only one thought comes forward within Eli’s mind as they process the sight.
Ew.
Somewhere in the shallow waters of their common sense, they know they should leave. They accomplish nothing by being here. They risk the integrity of their favorite coffee shop. And they can’t stand Lloyd’s stupid, lovey-dovey expression or enamored sighs of adoration as he lets his date regale him with a story from his mundane life.
…
…but how can they miss out on getting a piece of the Green Ninja’s private life? How often did this happen? Paparazzi would be losing their minds right now.
Eli casually and quietly moves toward the counter to order—much to the very annoyed-looking barista’s chagrin. All of their movements come in unceremonious, practiced fashion. Their request for their usual coffee rolls off their tongue. They fit right in, hidden in plain sight while eavesdropping.
“I don’t understand how you can drink that stuff,” Lloyd remarks, pointing to a glass holding a creamy liquid.
“It’s coffee, Lloyd, it tastes good,” his date says.
“It tastes like gutter water.”
“It does not.”
Eli shoves down the urge to chuckle. A sense of fondness for Lloyd’s date rises in its place. If nothing else, he seems to have good taste.
‘And good humor,’ Eli thinks, watching Lloyd as swats at the dark-haired boy for his comment about green tea just being “hot leaf juice.”
“No. No! Shush, stop,” Lloyd yells between peels of laughter. “Shut up, you’re wrong!”
If only Eli believed in deities. If only they had their camera on them. The pictures they would take to tease Lloyd with. Alas, it seems Eli would have to be content with a bit of verbal ribbing during their next scuffle—assuming the barista doesn’t make that as soon as in the next minute.
“Drink for Eli!”
Eli schools themself into a relaxed figure as they take their drink off the counter. But by then it’s too late—they’ve already caught Lloyd’s eye. Lloyd visibly tenses. His gaze zeroes in on Eli with laser focus. His hand shoots out to grab a plastic knife lying on the table and unlucky Eli has a sliver of enough time to think one sarcastic thing.
‘Oh, no, a plastic utensil. What are you going to do with that? Stab me?’
It is only by the grace of Lloyd’s companion that Eli finds themself saved. The dark-haired stranger slides to his feet just as Lloyd does and places his hands on Lloyd’s shoulders.
“Whoa, hang on. Where are you going?”
“Will you excuse me for just one moment?”
The dark-haired stranger moves with all the tenderness and grace in the world, gently cupping Lloyd’s cheek and turning his head so that they have to look at each other.
“Is this a ninja thing again?”
“Don’t try to stop me.”
“Call your friends-“
“Get out of my way.”
“Lloyd, you promised me.”
Lloyd’s gaze slips over to Eli—who smiles smugly behind their coffee. The fury burning in his eyes dwindles as he looks back to the stranger—to his gaze, to his touch, to his pleading. Lloyd sucks in what looks like a shaky breath. His chest and body almost wobble while he shifts, as if unsure whether he should plant himself back in the chair or leap over the table and tackle Eli to the ground.
After a second, Lloyd speaks, his expression melting into a watery-eyed defeat.
“I can’t just leave it-“
“Then call your friends,” the stranger says. “Call them to take care of the problem. You promised me you wouldn’t rush off again.”
And just like that, all the fun drains from the area. Eli figures they should take their leave now, having decided that Lloyd’s torment is now a little more personal than what they care to involve themself in. Besides, they got their desired cup of coffee—no point in staying any longer, not with a conflict on the rise.
On the way out the door, Eli spies Lloyd’s date pulling him into a hug. They pause to consider their options, biting the inside of their cheek. Should they…?
They take note of the way Lloyd bristles with all the dignity of a drowned house cat, trapped in his companion’s embrace. Frankly, it appears as if it’s the only thing keeping him from acting with all the finesse of one too. His attention slides over to Eli, who decides that yes, they absolutely should do this.
With a simple open and close motion of their hand, Eli waves goodbye, smiling as they back out into the cool autumn air.
Lloyd’s eyes light back on fire. He snaps the plastic knife in half.
_________
For all the bragging and boasting surrounding the top-secret, high-security barriers that protect the Death Flute, retrieving it turns out to be relatively easy. Then again, Eli supposes that their powers make even the most inconceivable of feats easy, such as slipping past trained guards and Cyrus-Borg-on-a-tech-kick levels of puzzle locks. As always, the man’s creativity provides a shred of entertainment.
And, as always, there are setbacks.
The Earth Ninja and Ice Ninja dart through the trees, quicker than Eli’s eyes can reasonably trace. They’ve managed to escape the vault and tear their way through the forest that hides it—all while the ninja track them down at Lloyd’s beck and call. Part of them wants to be thankful that the lightning ninja hasn’t joined up with them…
But it’s drowned out by the focus required to avoid all of Zane’s ice spears. On its own, ice barely yields a threat. But out of all the other ninja, the speed with which he summons his element tends to give Eli the most trouble, second only to lightning.
The worst part of it all is that Zane is fully aware of his power. He illustrates as much when he lands an infuriating blow against Eli’s shoulder. Pain rockets through Eli’s arm with the guttering force of a firework. It explodes out across the back of his hand, forcing them to release their grasp on their book so that it falls into the mud beneath their feet. The ache of frustration pulses against their temple as they stumble back.
‘He’ll pay for that-’  Eli thinks, as blood roars in their ears.
That book is a high-value asset of Eli’s collection—intricately patterned stab binding, Metalonian paper, and a painted, marbled fore-edge that has lasted almost half of Eli’s lifespan. A book of such quality… they’re not easy to come by. Such a sleight is unforgivable and it seems only fair that Eli takes something of equal value from Zane.
“I’d apologize for how this is going to hurt,” Eli grinds out. They feel their powers rise like a deep breath, circulating through their body as they fixate on Zane’s internal functions. “But I don’t think I would mean it if I did.”
Almost effortlessly, Eli disconnects some of the less important wiring in Zane’s body. Not enough to severely damage him but enough to make him double over in pain.
A shredded gasp escapes from Zane’s throat as he crumbles, gripping his side.
“Zane!” Cole dashes over to kneel near him, quickly looking him over for the injury.
Eli doesn’t see much more than that as they take their leave, gritting their teeth at the thought of their lost book.
_________
The numb buzz of victory crawls through Eli’s veins even long after they complete their mission. Morta’s power thrums within their veins, deep and dark and dangerous in a way they hope they can rely on. It’s one of many options for them—in the long run, it might not even mean anything. It can always be just another false lead. But what is Eli’s life for if not trying everything they can?
Cautiously, Eli fishes the flute from their pockets. As if sensing the power it holds, a breeze whispers through the forest and seems to make the trees lean away. A blanket of clouds creeps over the edges of the sky, accompanied by a thundering roar that Eli would have mistaken for a storm had it not fallen into the voice of the Green Ninja.
“ELIAS!”
Lloyd appears amongst the coverts of trees and foliage as if cut from marble stone. He wears a face of justified rage as Eli has ever seen. The wind and the forest whip to life as if manipulated by the outpouring of his rage alone—his power burns and shimmers in his hands, blazing alight like a wildfire.
“Drop the flute!” Lloyd continues. He begins a slow, steady march toward Eli, braced for the inevitable.
A startled chuckle bubbles out of Eli’s chest. “I’m surprised you found me so fast, Green Ninja. I suppose I shouldn’t be, though. You have a knack for tracking down things that disagree with the nature of your element.”
Lloyd either doesn’t hear Eli over the whine of his powers or pretends not to. He comes to a stop a mere few steps from Eli—who grips the flute with white knuckles—and holds his hand out.
“Give me the flute, Elias,” Lloyd says. “It’s not worth your life.”
Eli takes one look at the golden-green flame flickering in Lloyd’s hand and shoves down the urge to laugh. “It’s worth more than you think.”
Lloyd’s face contorts into a scowl. He grits his teeth. The flame in his hand burns brighter.
“I’m not going to be polite a second time,” Lloyd says. “Give me the flute now. It’s not meant for hands like yours or mine.”
“Only you would think that, Lloyd.” Eli takes a step back as Lloyd takes a step forward. “Always the optimist, aren’t you? Can’t say the same for myself.”
An unmistakable flash of despair goes out across Lloyd’s features, disappearing as quickly as it appears. “Listen, I know how you feel-”
“Oh, I’m sure you do,” Eli says. “But let’s be honest, you’re not always the best judge of character. Or choices.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Lloyd asks. His brows furrow downward into a glower.
“I think you know. But just in case you don’t, allow me to guess how happy your boyfriend is that you’ve run out on him.”
Lloyd flinches like he’s been speared through by Eli’s words. A wave of emotions passes over him in rapid succession before outwardly landing on unbridled fury. Lloyd charges forward in a blur and slams Eli back into a tree.
“DON’T YOU DARE TALK ABOUT HIM!”  Lloyd roars. “YOU DON’T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HIM!”
Crushed between Lloyd’s grip and the rough bark digging into their back, Eli manages to suck in a breath. They smirk and open their mouth to choke out something else to get on Lloyd’s nerves but fall short when their voice refuses their call. For one horrible second, Eli wonders if Lloyd’s hands have found their throat. They discover much worse.
“Let go,” Eli wheezes.
Lloyd’s eyes and hold on the flute turn to steel. “You first.”
A white-hot, wriggling panic makes its way into Eli’s stomach. It floods through their chest, shoulders, and brain, nearly drowning out all coherent thought. Think, think, think! They have to think. Eli grasps their powers and forces the ground beneath Lloyd’s feet to crumble. Lloyd braces himself against the sudden motion, careening backward as he takes the flute and Eli with him. What ensues is a most graceful scuffle.
Eli and Lloyd scrabble for purchase against the ground, practically going around in circles while locked in a tumultuous game of tug-of-war for the instrument of death. Neither of them gives an inch, and neither of them breaks contact.
And then Lloyd does something truly childish.
In one swift movement, he falls back onto the forest floor, pulls down every ounce of weight he can, and uses the abrupt momentum to kick Eli off of him and into a forward-flying somersault. Eli, for their part, grapples to land on their feet and fails—instead crashing fully onto their side with a dull thud. Pain crackles across their ribs. Gravel seems to scrape against their throat as they try to speak.
“You… juvenile…”
“Save your breath, Eli.” Lloyd slides to his feet, unhindered by the fight. He twirls the Death Flute around in his hands. “You’re going to need it for something other than playing first chair.”
A pained chuckle from Eli slices into the open air. “Alright, you’re funny. I’ll give you that. Thankfully, you’re not as smart or I would be in trouble.”
Lloyd manages to cock an eyebrow in response before the ground opens up and swallows his leg. He cries out in shock, bracing himself as best he can, even when the dirt and pebbles rip at the arms and knees of his clothes.
Eli feels their powers breathe through them and the rocky sediment of the forest. They rise to their feet, taking slow, steady strides to reach where they’ve trapped Lloyd.
“Stay back!” Lloyd holds out a hand as if it’ll do everything to keep Eli away. “Or I’ll-”
“Or you’ll what?” Eli asks.
Lloyd jerks the Death Flute up to his lips. It’s an unspoken threat—written in the way he stares Eli down, fingers trembling around the instrument’s body. A volley of laughter, tired yet uncontrolled, rolls through Eli’s shoulders at the sight.
“Go ahead, do it,” Eli says. “I don’t fear its power.”
Time ticks by in silence, save for the flowing of the breeze and the crinkling of the leaves. Lloyd keeps his eyes trained on Eli, his muscles pulled tautly, every fiber of his being purposeful and fixed. Eli allows themself to smile, even as they observe every one of Lloyd’s movements—down to the steady rise and fall of his chest. Finally, Lloyd takes a deep breath and puts the flute into playing position.
All of time slows to a stop—even the sky and the woods die into silence as Lloyd prepares to breathe the first note…
…and then Cole’s voice booms into the air.
“STOP!”
A blurry object comes flying out of the forest and careens straight into the side of Lloyd’s head. Two things fall to the ground in tandem—Morta’s Death Flute and the book Eli immediately recognizes as the one they’d lost earlier. They gather their powers and bring both objects into their hands.
Cole and Zane rocket into the clearing like twin streaks of light. Cole stomps to open up the ground, immediately setting Lloyd free, while Zane forms an icy barrier around all of them.
Lloyd hisses out an inaudible thanks between grit teeth, holding what must be a bruised and scraped arm. He hasn’t lost his usual stoicism, with his chin held high and shoulders kept straight. That is, until he sees the flute in Eli’s hand. He shakes his head, eyes blown wide with fear.
No.
“Eli, don’t-”
But Eli has long since made up their mind. They raise the flute to their lips and play the first note.
An unholy scream rips out of the Death Flute. A sharp, howling pain rends Eli’s chest. Their vision spins like a skipping record, the occasional white sparks flashing over it. And from the ground, the hands of the skeletons of the Underworld break through, leading the rest of their bodies to freedom. The sound of bones rattling and hoarse cackling reaches Eli’s ears as they look up.
They curse.
They’re still alive. Morta’s Death Flute has failed them.
Lloyd curses, even as he directs the other ninja into battle positions. Outnumbered ten to one, the ninja still come across as impressively menacing—battle-hardened bodies and calloused  fists called to protect. Eli suspects they’ll get out of this with no problem. Still, they figure they shouldn’t make themself the final target, especially to Lloyd’s wrath.
“Isn’t this a predicament?” Eli’s voice sounds raspy and winded as they draw it from out of their lungs. “Though, it is a shame, I really must take my leave.”
“Eli!” Lloyd snaps. “Don’t you dare leave! Fix this mess.”
He hastily kicks a skeleton’s head clean off its shoulders. He turns to make a mad dash for Eli, only to be stopped short by another skeleton nearly yanking his arm out of his socket. Lloyd growls and begins to wail against the poor creature’s ribs. By the time he’s finished, Eli has vanished.
That’s something Eli holds up above him to some degree.
They know the forest well. They know how to enter and exit without leaving a trace, how to disappear from someone’s sight in utter silence. That’s exactly what they do for the ninja. They march along one of the many unmarked paths as quickly as their lingering pain will allow them until the city becomes visible once more.
As they go, they flip through the pages of their book, closely examining the damage. While mud stains the occasional passage and the strings fray in a few places, they soon realize that it may not be irreparable—a little extra-fine cleaning should fix most of it.
A warm sort of relief flowers up in Eli’s chest, even in spite of their failure.
‘Well,’ Eli thinks as they jog out onto the sidewalk. They may not have gotten what they wanted from this whole mess but at least they’ve escaped with something of value.

BRO I JUST CAME UP W/SOMETHING—
Now I’m sure this has been used in media before and my unconscious mind is making it seem like my own idea but…
You know how in Ninjago instead of rings they present the ying yang to propose?
What if there was a courting ritual where if one of the ninja (or anyone in Ninjago) wanted to date someone they had to trade an item of value for the same thing
AI; if your a dnd fan, trading one of your dice from a set in exchange for another from the potential suitor
Or
Getting a pack of playing cards and trading Aces
Basically taking something they both deeply care about and share it with eachother to deepen their bond
For Poly relationships they just trade more than one of said thing so everyone can share the love!
—————————————————————————————————————
So a few fun things that can happen with this is…
The miscommunication trope; Where person A gives an item that meets the requirements and person B trades with them unknowingly and now person A believes they are either together or person B reciprocates person A’s feelings
(Can be angsty or pure fluff! It’s all up to you!)
When person A tries to secretly trade and gets caught by person B who reciprocates their feelings
A couple that’s been together for years after marriage have grown a large collection of things they traded and still do for fun that they show to their children to teach them about what things that they might trade (if they want to) in the future
A group of friends trading seeing as it can also be seen as a form of strengthening companionship
A poly relationship that’s constantly trying to outdo the others by making their trades (by their standards) the best but also because they want their partners to have the best
A new couple that once they get a new *what they trade* they have a sort of ritual where they do something special (being an event or just a handshake type thing) to trade with the other that they came up with together
A puppy love trope trade where the little kids trade woodchips from the playground for fun and host fake weddings afterwards
Long distance couples that ship their trades to eachother and keep them in display cases to treasure till their lovers arrive back home
—————————————————————————————————————
What do you think the ninja (and other characters) would trade?
Being a x reader type situation
Or an Oc
Or a in show ship!
I would love to hear your thoughts!
(I hc that for this Jaya would trade tools from toolkits, since they both have a heavy passion for building and inventing)

So Renee722 on AO3 said: “also for a drawing request if you haven’t done it, could you draw when Kai falls through the travelers tea portal in the first chapter of this fic.”
What she means is the inciting incident in my latest story, More Fun than a Barrel of Monkies. Pythor basically abducts Kai and renders him unable to talk to use him as a decoy so he can kidnap MK from Monkie Kid.   https://archiveofourown.org/works/34204399
I had fun drawing this due to the shift in perspective on both sides of the portal. I always pictured Buddy Kai falling through it down in Movie Ninjago, but coming out sideways in the Monkie Kid world.

@digiacrb96 mentioned she wanted to see a picture of all the Lil’Terrors. Sounded fun, so I delivered. Since Lil’Loyd got to stay a kid in the Grass is Always Greener AU he was able to make friends his own age, and over time amassed a lot of them.
From left to right we have
Mindroid, he doesn’t know he’s a Lil’Terror yet, and if you ask him if he’s friends with all of them, he’ll fiercely deny it. And yet he keeps seeking them out, but it’s not like he likes them or anything.
Gene and Brad, they usually come as a pair. Gene’s the ‘brains’ of the outfit and Brad will do just about anything for a bet. Their encouraging the others into trouble is half the reason they’re called ‘terrors’.
Nelson, a huge fan of the Ninja and thinks them and Lil’Loyd are the coolest. Very accident prone and usually has something broken. He is always eager to try anything, and is dangerprone.
Lil’Loyd, the ring leader of the group and the other half of why they’re all called ‘terrors’. He may be a hero now, but he still loves his mischief.
Tiny Echo, small, cheerful, and chatty, he actually beats Nick Jay when it comes to talking. He’s super curious and will ask a million questions a minute, and wants to befriend everyone he meets.
Rusty Echo, tall, shy, sweet, but can carry a grudge, he may not look as ‘little’ as the others, but his mental age is closer to theirs than the way he was built. Lil’Loyd decided the second he met him they would become friends, and he fit right in.
SJ, aka Prince Skales the Second, or my imagining of the movie version of Skales Junior. He has a lot of pressure on him as a prince, and appreciates his wild friends spicing up his life, even if he more often than not has to be the voice of reason.
Poisinthia, a movie Serpentine OC that took on a life of her own. I never intended for her to be a Lil’Terror. She started out as just a kid for Luh-Loyd to save, but then she kept showing up and SJ and Lil’Loyd made friends with her. She’s outspoken, bold, and loves a good romance (much to the dismay of the boys).

Hi. Well I noticed there is already drawing of the lloyds with their parents, but there is also the time they were exchanged? So back with a double request, how about a lil'loyd drawing with Lord garm(movie) and one of luh-loyd with Lord garmadon (show) close to being sensei))?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sure thing. Kinda fun to see how different they treat each other back in The Grass is Always Greener, especially when Show Garmadon was still evil.
Movie Lord Garmadon and Lil'Loyd clicked pretty much immediately once they started hanging out together. Two chaos gremlins with a love for pranks and mischief, they got along like a house on fire, much to everyone else's dismay. If left alone for too long, those two will start causing trouble.
Luh-Loyd, however, had much more tense exchanges with Still-evil Show Garmadon, mostly because he threatened to keep Lil'Loyd in his world if he didn't shape up. SLord Garmadon didn't like that and was dismissive of his 'bleeding heart'. The scene above is after they stopped the Serpentine from collapsing the city, and SLord G can't understand why Luh-Loyd tried to reason with them rather than fight, and Luh-Loyd's more worried about Cole, who passed out after holding up the entire city. The two just couldn't connect until SLord G was cured.

So Renee722 on AO3 said, “If you could, could you draw the Ninja force reunion.“
Renee means the reunion between the Ninja Force in Chapter 4 of More Fun than a Barrel of Monkies, when they found Kai and Cyan Nya promptly tackled him. Everyone’s really relieved to see him alright.  https://archiveofourown.org/works/34204399/chapters/86284159
Renee asked for a few more, and I’ll get to them when I have time.
