Mini-review:

I'm pretty sure this is my first time watching Indonesian horror, and I have to say I liked it quite a bit. Not all the stories are on the same level, and some of them felt rather boring, but I already expected that; it's a usual problem when it comes to anthologies. In this case, I think my favorites were The Orphan, Hypnotized and P.O. BOX (at least until that silly ending). I also appreciated the show's decision to focus on the characters for the most part, instead of prioritizing the crazier stuff. So, is Joko Anwar's Nightmares and Daydreams the best horror anthology I've ever seen? Not at all, but I wouldn't mind getting more episodes.

A screenwriter reunites with his high school friend and crush, who is still grieving from the loss of her husband. He wants to convince her to fall in love once again, just like in the movies.

Turned out to have more story "levels", and overall also be more interesting than expected.

There were still a few things that bugged me. For example, taken together the director-screenwriter conversations were just too clichéd. And at times the story/film felt just too self-conscious, which took you out of the movie.

I also think the movie should've ended when Bagus enters the office of the producer again. But it's still a very worthwhile watch.

I also want to point out that Bagus' friends are named Cheline and Dion.

Ali & Ratu-ratu Queens (Ali & the queens of Queens) is a very heartwarming movie about family; either the family you were born into or the family you found along the way of your life journey.

The movie is about Ali (Iqbaal Ramadhan), a boy who goes to New York to find his mother (Marissa Anita) who left when he was just a child. After his father passing three months ago, he needed to see his mother but turn out, finding his mother is not as easy as he thought. Fortunately, with the help of the queens of Queens; Parti (Nirina Zubir), Chinta (Happy Salma), Ance (Tika Panggabean) and Biyah (Asri Pramawati), he can find his mother, and even got to have the four ladies to be his family as well.

This movie teaches us that family is still a family, even though it's a found one and not the one you were born into. Even sometimes, your found-family can love you better than your born one.

Iqbaal Ramadhan gave excellent performance as Ali here. His devastation and desperation can be seen clearly and I think this is his best performance in his career so far. The future is looking bright for you, kid.

There is no doubt about Marissa Anita, Nirina Zubir, Tika Panggabean, Happy Salma and Asri Pramawati's performance. They are all great, but Marissa Anita never ceased to amaze me. I know that she's brilliant, but this?? This movie is another level for her. I love how she portrayed her character feeling as a mother here. It's beyond perfect. This is my favorite character of her so far.

Kudos also for Ginatri S. Noer for amazing script writing and Lucky Kuswandi for awesome directing. This movie captures familial love in the best way.
