MP100 Fallout AU

I wrote down some headcanons for this AU (& others) in February & well, come April there's suddenly a Fallout TV series? (& there are Magic the Gathering Fallout cards since earlier this year, too??) Well Fallout brainrot is revived, here's long-ass worldbuilding/background ramblings.

Vault Tec & Claw

Claw existed before the Great War as an organization researching psychic abilities; though in this universe powers initially don't nearly reach the levels of MP100 canon

Toichiro & his wife start working with Vault Tec overseas & are assigned Vault 100, that is just being constructed

They are to conduct experiments with FEV-variants on promising psychics to try & enhance their abilities by new means the vaults offer in the future

Mob is born in 2058

Several years later Toichiro starts to "collect" mostly young espers to populate the vault with; of course the plan of direct & experimentation with yet unknown risks is left out

Parents of the kids he's interested in are offered contracts that promise a safe place for them to survive with the downside of being taken away to 'monitor', but the desperation over the worsening state of the world makes it easy to agree

The Kageyamas even beg for them to take both their sons, not only the one with some innate abilities - and succeed

Toichiro's wife leaves him over the increasingly unethical plans for the vault, but to her dismay their own son stays with his father

Vault Occupancy

In 2072 the contracts take effect & Vault 100 is populated and sealed (with mostly kids from JP & USA families)

Toichiro & the Ultimate 5 are in charge and oversee the vault and experiments

For about two years the vault is operated with its young residents living a pretty standard vault life, they have restricted permission to be in contact with their families

As the experiments so far show no effect & the young population is getting harder to control, the decision is made to make them enter cryosleep early & continue with different lines of experimentation while in this state

In 2074 all residents except the six in charge enter cryosleep, including Toichiro's own son

Correspondence with parents of the kids is fabricated from here on

Many of the kids die in the next few years while supplemented with barely tested substances to increase their affinities

In 2077 on the day of the Great War, Toichiro & the Ultimate 5 enter cryosleep themselves, joining their own experiments as subjects now that the fatality rates have reached 0 & brain scans look promising

They set their own systems to awake at a scheduled point in the future

Post-Apocalypse

It goes as planned; the 6 of them wake up & find themselves enhanced with never before seen psychic powers, marking their final experiments a success

Vault 100 is unsealed & Toichiro wakes only Sho from the remaining children, to take him with him

Sho is initially too weak to fight back but doesn't take to it kindly; as soon as he is able he goes back

He wakes Ritsu first, of course

Together they start waking the remaining kids - some of them, including Ritsu, don't seem to see any changes in their abilities, several of them are incredibly disoriented

However, Mob's cryopod malfunctions and won't release him - they could break it, but can't guarantee his survival should they forcibly remove him

They can only try to look for someone to help, so even if Ritsu has a hard time leaving he and Sho start their wasteland journey with that mission, while Teru stays back to watch over the others and Mob

Unfortunately Toichirou comes back in search of Sho and they are forced to flee, leaving Mob unattended

Reigen & Mob

Not too long after everyone's gone, Reigen instead finds the vault - it looks newly opened which could promise a fortune (& he isn't so wrong about that)

Despite, or because, not knowing what he's doing, he ends up accidentally releasing the single kid left

Mob is fine but overwhelmed & immediately starts frantically looking for Ritsu

Reigen's words don't get through to Mob - he gets some reaction when he talks to him in Japanese, but ultimate can just follow while Mob scours the whole vault

Soon he gets a showcase of Mob's new powers & in their strongest form, while Mob reaches 100% despair

In the explosion, most of the vault is destroyed

Reigen is shocked but fascinated and he stays with Mob and calms him

His initial plan to bring the kid somewhere safe asap change with the idea of taking him with him to profit from these powers - Reigen himself is not the strongest & survives mainly on charisma & luck out there

Reigen lies to him about knowing more than he does & possibly being able to help him find his brother

Throughout Mob's traumatic awakening into an entirely unknown world alone Reigen is his only company & guidance, so Mob trusts him quickly - & Reigen gets attached quickly

Reigen continues lying but his own gains aside, he soon genuinely tries to help Mob find Ritsu as well as the truth

Somewhere along on their journey they meet Dimple, an intelligent super mutant & he tags along, initially also out of interest in Mob's powers

A Full Summary of Wynncraft: Rekindled World

Explaining the Upcoming Wynncraft Update through a handy bullet point list. Here's what we know is in the upcoming update so far.

Mobs and enemies are being completely revamped including not just bosses but standard enemies too, with the mob system being rebuilt from the ground up.

There will be 350+ unique mob AIs and Abilities which I'm assuming means some mobs will just use the same AI as other mobs.

There will be 300+ new models for entities, which I'm assuming means some entities will just share models with others. This includes not just hostile mobs but also passive mobs like sheep and pigs. I'll admit, I'll kinda miss the classic Minecraft mobs. I won't miss the mobs that are just a bunch of blocks jumbled together into the vague shape of a creature. All these models have their own unique animations. Especially the bosses.

The UI and interface are being completely reworked with a unique look that meshes Minecraft and modern rpg UIs. So, uh, if you use Wyntilis things'll probably break.

Brand new music that's even higher quality!

Teleport scrolls are no longer one use. Instead, they have multiple charges that recharge over time, no longer requiring you to go back and buy more constantly.

Soul points are gone and outside of Hardcore and Hunted mode you'll only drop materials and ingredients upon death.

Scrap is being, er, scrapped and items can instead be repaired with just emeralds.

Raids have been reworked to provide a more streamlined experience better suited for endgame players.

All challenges and bosses have been reworked! Raids now scale to each party member's own level.

If you buy a Silverbull subscription (for some reason) you can unlock new effects and rewards for raids. Also up the challenge with unique challenges or whatever.

If some or all of your raiders are from the same guild, they trigger a guild raid which makes the raid harder and the rewards better.

Aspects are rewards that you can get from raids and guilds that enhance your abilities. They're shared across all your characters and you can have five enabled at a time.

World Events are now a thing! Sometimes there'll be a world event and if you get there in time you can fight a huge crowd of enemies and a boss for lots of xp and rewards.

Once a week a Major World Event will trigger near the Corruption Portal and all players above lvl 30 (though I suspect you'd be better off at a much higher level than that) can fight a massive boss called Annihilation with the power to end the world. Defeating him gives you a corrupted cache which contains powerful items.

A lot of the level 30-39 quests have received some touch ups.

Improved fights.

Dungeons (sans Eldritch Outlook and Fallen Factory) no longer require quests to access. I assume the dungeon quests will simply be reworked and not removed entirely, seeing as most of them provide important story and lore information (Slykaar's in particular).

Also you get a free second chance if you die during an attempt.

Improved builds including Mt. Wynn! Finally! That Mountain always looked kinda sparse to me.

Random events, both beneficial and harmful, during Lootruns.

And more that hasn't been revealed yet!

xxx alternate prompt 9~drugging

This is how I die, he thinks. He’s survived getting hit by a car and splashed with toxic chemicals. He’s survived the Russians, the Irish mob, crooked policemen, the Hand, Wilson Fisk. He’s been stabbed, slashed, beaten, poisoned, shot in the head. A building fell on him one time. And he’s survived all of it.

And now some low level drug dealer with a needle and a knife, who either had more experience than Matt would ever have suspected or was just lucky, has left him for dead in an alley. 

It’s not just the stab wound (to the side, below his ribs and above his hip). He’s been stabbed before. It was what the dealer did next, with surprising speed and precision, while Matt had been on the ground trying to recover enough to stand and finish the fight. A needle to the neck, filled with some designer synthetic drug that’s popular right now. A drug that enhances every sense--a sweet and exciting high for the average user, no doubt. 

For Matt, it’s hell. The world isn’t just on fire--he is.

He’s burning from the inside out and from the outside in. Every sound--he can hear every sound and he can’t shut them off, can’t focus. Everything is so damn loud and he’s not sure but he thinks his ears are bleeding. And the smells. There’s certainly a cacophony of smells in a Hell’s Kitchen alley, and all of them are filling his nose at once, drowning him, suffocating him. Every nerve is electric, tingling. He can feel his clothes against his skin, tight like a boa constrictor squeezing the life out of its prey, the fibers scratching at his very cells. The air touching his face is hot and heavy and merciless. Matt wonders vaguely if his flesh has been stripped away, leaving nothing but a bare skull beneath the mask. 

He knows he has to get up and find help--from Claire, from Foggy, from Karen, anyone--but he can’t move. The sudden overstimulation assaulting him from every angle has left him paralyzed and in agony and he’s going to bleed to death and there’s not a damn thing he can do about it.

Suddenly, there’s a sound very close to him, a shout that sets his head to pounding, and a quiet groan escapes from his lips, very much against his will. 

“Hey!” the voice says again, and it’s familiar, but Matt can’t place it. “C’mon, we have to move!”

A hand grabs his arm, sending pain lacing through the limb, and he lets out a scream. The hand quickly releases. 

“Shit! What’s wrong with you?”

It’s hard to concentrate, hard to focus on any specific input when there’s so much stimulation assaulting every sense, but he manages to pull a name out of the flurry of thoughts.

“Frank?” 

“Yeah it’s me. Keep it down, will ya? What the hell did that guy do to you?”

“Drugged,” Matt gasps, and the act of speaking is enough to start him groaning again as jolts of pain spike through his head and injured side.

Frank swears, and Matt’s pretty sure he’s crouched down now. “Look, Red, I can’t leave you here. You’re bleeding a lot, not to mention what someone else will do if they find you here. Can you stand?”

Matt tries to answer, tries to stand, anything, but his brain is at a disconnect with his body, and there’s a new sensation, one that’s not coming from everything happening around him. It’s in his head, filling him up with helium. He gasps before letting out a thin moan.

“Shit,” Frank says. “Shit. How much did he give you? Goddammit. Okay, sorry about this.”

Then there’s a blow to the side of his head and everything goes black.

He wakes up screaming. He thinks he might be on fire. He can’t smell smoke, but what other explanation is there? He’s burning. Or maybe it’s the world that’s burning. That would explain why it’s so fucking loud--sirens and car horns and screams and the roaring of his own blood in his ears. He thinks someone might be saying his name, too, but he can’t tell.

It feels like centuries pass this way. Or is it only seconds? He stops screaming, eventually, too exhausted to make a sound. He’s sure that any moment now, he’s going to die. But he doesn’t. 

He sort of wishes that he would.

The first thing he notices when he comes back to himself is the splitting headache and the stabbing pain in his side. The next thing he notices is the fact that he’s wearing nothing but his boxer-briefs. There’s a brief panic as he realizes his face is showing and he’s got no idea where he is, but then a familiar gruff voice says, “Hey, you with me?”

Matt takes a few deep breaths to calm himself down, and then he nods. His mouth and throat are dry and he has to swallow twice before he’s able to speak. “Why am I half-naked?”

“You did that yourself,” Frank answers. 

“And you let me?

“Didn’t wanna hurt you. Here, drink this. Slow sips.” 

Matt sits up a little (ouch) as a glass of water is shoved into his hand. He doesn’t want to drink it at first--he’s starting to feel nauseated and is worried that anything he consumes will come back up instantly--but then he feels the cool liquid against his throat and that changes immediately. He starts to chug it, but a hand pulls the glass from his grip.

“Hey!” Frank snaps. “I said slow. Slow.”

Matt nods. “Slow. Got it.”

Frank hesitates a moment before handing the glass back to him. It takes all of Matt’s self control not to down the whole thing instantly. He can feel Frank watching him and does his best to ignore it. 

“How’re you feeling?” Frank asks once Matt finishes the glass.

“Really, really shitty,” Matt says. He’s too tired to try and pretend he feels anything but, and he’s pretty sure Frank would just see through him anyway. 

“Yeah, you’re gonna wanna take it easy for a few days. The stab wound wasn’t too deep but I think I gave you a concussion.” Before Matt can be angry about that, Frank adds, “It was the only way I could get you here. You were screaming like a fuckin’ banshee if I even touched you…You remember what happened?”

“Not really.”

“Prob’ly for the best…”

“What time is it?” Matt asks. 

“Almost 3 am.”

“Shit,” Matt murmurs, pushing himself up on his elbows and biting back a cry as it exacerbates the pain in his head and side. 

“What the hell do you think you’re doing?”

“Gotta get home before sunrise. Black suit’s not as subtle in the daytime. Where’re my clothes?”

“Hey, hold on. Hold on, Red. You’ve still got time. You should rest a few hours, that shit’s probably still lingering your system. Have another glass of water and get a little sleep. I’ll wake you up when you need to go.”

If he were in better shape, he’d probably argue, or tell Frank to go fuck himself. But right now, another glass of water and a couple hours of sleep sound like heaven. 

“Fine,” Matt says finally. “And, uh…thanks.”

So, some days ago I noticed your tags about Quinn, how nice it would've been if they had at least gave her some specialty, some peculiar skill. Dunno, like Kono being a natural-born sharpshooter. Duh, I guess we expected too much from such writers. Anyway, this reasoning prompted another one: I know I watched the OG H50 when a child, just like I did with Starsky&Hutch or Hazzard or Chips or A-Team....but of course it's too many decades ago to remember the details! Anyway, looking on the wiki page about the OG show, they literally say that Danny "From a shaky beginning, when he nervously defused his first bomb, following instructions shouted to him through the office door, he progressed to become Hawaii Five-0’s resident bomb expert, and was called upon to neutralize several more bombs during his career with the unit. Williams was an expert marksman whose sharpshooting skill was utilized on many occasions. He was also acknowledged as a handwriting expert." .....And I fucking. Wonder. WHY. They never gave him any kind of special skill. Sure, since Kono had to be THEE expert marksman, so that was out of question. But can you imagine your resident bomb expert ending up targeted by a motion-sensing bomb in 3x06?? How much more impactful it would've felt?? Knowing you're the one who can solve the problem but just CAN'T?? And the handwriting expertise?! It takes patience and a keen eye to gain such skill, so why making him look like your local resident idiot for anything tech-related, instead?? Such wasted potential. And honestly, it would've only enhanced Steve's decision to have him gain H50, with such sharp intellect, surely not diminished Steve's one-mand-band-superhero-gary-stu portrait.

I still don't understand why Show didn't do a better job of giving each character specific skill sets.

For example, what if Chin had the bomb/detonation skills? That would've changed the tension/stakes in several episodes. Also (this is awful) what if his issues with other HPD officers came from a bomb situation that went sideways? That would have created a more interesting background and so much more potential for storylines.

Or what if Danny had experience with the different mob/mafia groups? Whiteness riots have familiar features: police partisanship, local and national media fomentation, moral panics about crime and ‘race-mixing’, followed by calls for new criminal and immigration legislation.

The riots in Southport are just the latest flashpoint in a long history of British reactionary politics. In Fractured, Michael Richmond and Alex Charnley move away from the ahistorical temper of the identity politics debate, exploring how historical class struggles were formed and continue to determine the possibilities for new forms of solidarity in an increasingly dangerous world.

In this edited excerpt the authors explore the relationship between street racism and the modernisation of policing and immigration controls.

Conservative reactions to anti-racist movements are sensitive to temporal shifts in street protests and uprisings. The most dangerous point in a movement cycle is when things quiet down. State functionaries and journalists work hard to alienate the integrity of the utopian moment by generating debates that trivialise its political nucleus, while police move in to make arrests. Conservatives are aware of this and choose their moments carefully. The conservative claim that anti-racism causes racism (or makes racism worse) can be convincing because the state and the press personalise its causes. The pitting of opinions about ‘race’ at the national level creates hypervisibility for racialised people in schools, workplaces and streets. Those who ‘innocently’ identify with Britishness are painted as victims of anti-racist ‘race-baiting’, with many people of colour alienated by the direction this discourse takes, and the dangers it presents. State racism cannot proceed without this kind of maintenance, the ultimate goal being to enhance state powers over the organisation of workers and working-class communities more generally.

After Colston, we saw precisely how this happened. Within days, thousands of white supremacists gathered to protect a Churchill statue. Similar marches engulfed memorial squares across the country. In Coventry, a viral video showed a mass of white male and female football fans mobbing two young Black men. Dozens approached them, hurling glass bottles and racist epithets. When police arrived, the crowd accused one of the Black men of having a knife, even as weapons were visible in the hands of those crowding them. Cops moved in to arrest the two men. As part of the fans’ celebrations, BLM placards, left behind in the town centre from two recent multiracial anti-racist marches, were destroyed. Police later announced the incident wasn’t ‘racially motivated’. Two weeks later, ‘WHITE LIVES MATTER’ was scratched onto a hill in huge letters in a Coventry park, a video showed someone wearing a KKK hood next to it.

One year on, the government commissioned a race report to find out if there was really a racism problem in Britain: ‘In many areas of investigation, including educational failure and crime, we were led upstream to family breakdown as one of the main reasons for poor outcomes.’ The report found prejudice had statistically declined and that a ‘highly subjective dimension’ entered into ‘references to “systemic”, “institutional” or “structural racism” ’. The Daily Mail heralded the report: ‘Britain’s Race Revolution: Landmark report says UK “a model to the world” on diversity – and finds NO evidence of institutional racism.’ Other threats were detected, however,

A strident form of anti-racism … reinforced by a rise of identity politics, as old class divisions have lost traction … tend to stress the ‘lived experience’ of the groups they seek to protect with less emphasis on objective data.

The same oppositions between ‘identity politics’ and class, inculcated on the left for decades, were used as part of a government offensive. If anything was systemic, it was ‘anti-racism’, and with exclusionary effects: ‘the UK is open to all its communities. But we are acutely aware that the door may be only half open to some, including the white working-class.’ Whereas data on various ethnicities were compared, horizontally, and related to cultural or familial explanations, the ‘white working class’ was the only identity where systemic injustice could be explained. The report was launched with an almost trollish smirk from politicians. They searched and searched but no structural racism could be found in the data (except for a disregarded white working class). All this commotion and yet Britain was more inclusive than ever? ‘BLM’ was wrong to make British people feel otherwise. The report was immediately repudiated and discredited, even by some falsely credited as authors. But the government just pushed through the media cycle and pressed harder.

That same month, the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill was proposed. This was an opportunity to rubberstamp the far right reaction to ‘wokeness’ with concrete legislation that could suppress future protest waves and direct action tactics. The bill had a broader outlook, however, threatening the very existence of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities, by awarding police – and landowners – new powers to criminalise trespass and seize transport, that is, homes. Digital surveillance powers were enhanced, stop and search, as well as legal barriers to protest, including ten-year sentences for vandalising statues. ‘Back to the 80s,’ wrote Liz Fekete, ‘into the kind of territory that led to … the 1981 and 1985 inner city rebellions, the 1984–85 miners’ strike, and the mass unrest that followed the introduction of the Poll Tax’. The Nationality and Borders Bill followed. It presented a heinous broadening of deportation powers. Clause 9 would allow the state to deport any of six million naturalised or dual national British citizens, ‘without notice’, if the decision corresponded with the ‘public interest’. Nisha Kapoor predicts, ‘disqualification from voting rights, the withdrawal of access to services and provisions – bank accounts, passports, driving lessons – already administered … in counterterrorism cases, may become more routine. And should citizenship deprivation come, offshore detention centres will be waiting.’ The verticalisation of far-right social media trends and mainstream policymaking deserves proper attention. Undoubtedly, fascism and electoral politics are aligning. The ramping up of state powers to police, prosecute, deport and brutalise, depends on money and media pressure organised through liberal, conservative and fascist elites. That being said, reasoning around these authoritarian turns can also be underwhelming when the charisma of authoritarians, or fascism more broadly, is isolated as the cause. Racist anti-immigration legislation has been built piece by piece, over time, by politicians of every stripe.

In his writing on the Notting Hill riots of 1958, Peter Fryer describes ‘thousands’ of whites storming migrant neighbourhoods. Rioters surrounded Black people’s cars, shouting ‘let’s lynch them!’ Tory and Labour MPs joined the press (and a returned Oswald Mosley) in calling on the government to halt ‘coloured’ immigration and demanding deportations. The Tory government’s solution to the unrest was the 1962 Commonwealth Immigrants Act, ending automatic right of entry and settlement in Britain for Commonwealth subjects. Labour initially opposed the broadening of controls, though largely based on a colonial sentimentality about ‘Mother Country’ duties and maintaining good trade relations with Commonwealth states. Harold Wilson embraced controls once in government,* further restricting ‘coloured’ immigration with a 1965 white paper. Labour’s 1968 Commonwealth Immigrants Act built on this precedent. It was rushed through amidst government fears Britain would have to accept all Kenyan Asians made stateless by an independent Kenya’s ‘Africanisation’ policy. Restrictions didn’t apply to white Commonwealth settlers, because these ‘patrials’, as they were called, could trace their family lineage back to British blood and soil. Jim Callaghan, future Labour Prime Minister, told Tony Benn: ‘We don’t want any more blacks in Britain.’ The TUC supported Labour policy throughout.

The historical mutability of ‘whiteness’ is concretely determined by the peculiarity of the given racial regime and the stresses of the historical conjuncture. However, over time, best practises and rules of thumb are distinguished and generalised. What we refer to as ‘whiteness riots’ are ‘sparks’ of violence, routinely followed by ‘race reports’ and legislative reactions, designed to impart control through indirect means: the market, but also courts, social care, schools, border forces, policing. 

Through these instruments of the liberal democratic state, in the name of equality, racism is not only preserved, but also formalised, nationalised and modernised. It is important therefore to apprehend racist street violence – and the infantilising, innocent register used to explain it – as structural, indeed, as bordering, an action that seeks to incite and lobby for state violence further up the chain. This is why Sivanandan made racism central to his analysis of fascism, rather than isolating the fascist as an egregious extremist: ‘We have fought the idea that racism was an aspect of fascism – our take was that racism was fascism’s breeding ground.’

Powell framed the colonial anxieties of post-war liberal democracy in his 1968 ‘Rivers of Blood’ speech. It infamously depicted a foreboding future of racial role-reversal, of who would soon hold the ‘whip hand’. He referenced the murder of Martin Luther King Jr. and the riots that followed in the USA, warning similar would befall Britain unless immigration was halted. Powell’s dismissal from the Tory front bench for his speech was met with solidarity strikes by East End dockers. In an era when strike action was invariably economistic, a ‘political’ strike in support of a Tory politician was extraordinary. Over a thousand dockers and several hundred meat-porters from Smithfield Market marched to Westminster with signs saying: ‘We back Enoch!’ and ‘Back Britain, not Black Britain’. Harry Pearman led the strike, demanding a ‘total ban on immigration because there were enough already here’. After meeting Powell, he declared: ‘It made me feel proud to be an Englishman … We are representatives of the working man. We are not racialists.’ Powell’s popularity with a section of the working class, as Shilliam explains, is due to a perennial ‘defence of the ordinary, deserving working class as the white working class’. Tory legislation in 1971 and 1981,23 as well as its 1972 accession to what would become the EU, cemented Britain’s racist immigration policy.

The high price of tobacco in Gaza has given rise to a cigarette smuggling industry that now threatens United Nations aid convoys, according to a new report from the Wall Street Journal.

Cigarettes can cost as much as $25 each in the war-torn region, and gangs have found ways to smuggle them in as contraband alongside aid deliveries. One group of Palestinian men demanded entry to a U.N. warehouse last week to secure a stash of cigarettes they knew was inside, according to the Journal.

The smuggling operation only enhances the dangers for aid convoys operating in Gaza, which have already faced mobs of Palestinians stopping them in their tracks.

Demand for cigarettes skyrocketed in early May when Israeli forces seized control of the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt. They closed the border to virtually all trade, cutting off a previously steady flow of tobacco products into Gaza.

Opportunists then began smuggling the product into the region via the aid packages coming in to United Nations facilities from all over the world.

The danger has contributed to aid groups' refusal to make deliveries beyond the Gaza border. Over 1,000 truckloads worth of aid are still sitting just within Gazan territory at the Kerem Shalom crossing with Israel, according to the Journal.

"This is threatening to undermine everything we’re trying to do," a U.N. official told the outlet.

President Biden's administration sought to facilitate aid delivery by constructing a temporary pier on the Gaza coast last month. The effort soon met disaster, however, as weather rendered it unusable in a matter of days.

The U.N. also announced on June 10 that it would halt food distribution at the pier due to security concerns. The U.S. spent roughly $320 million on building the structure.

Rocket attacks struck two warehouses holding aid delivered to the pier in early June, contributing to the pause in delivery. The Biden administration has said it is committed to the maintenance of the pier moving forward.

Those who can't pay look for jobs, of which there are a lot to be found, at least. In a world intended to be better than real life, it manages to be not that different.

What of the real world, the one outside of Wonderland? It's the turn of the 22nd century and the world entered nuclear fallout. War has truly ravaged the world. It's dangerous to go outside because of the nuclear contamination, though some brave it to earn a living because they can't afford Wonderland. Others live away from the grip the higher-ups have on the world.

I have two "Paras".

Experiment #1 - The Soldier (he/him, inspired by Markiplier, Sonic the Warehog from Sonic Unleashed, Cyno from Genshin Impact): An abandoned experiment on using magic to enhance a user's ability. This hybrid of brawn and magic was supposed to be the Higher-Ups' swiss-army-knife that they would use to win wars. As such, they had enhanced the Soldier to be near-invincible and impervious to nuclear contamination. The Soldier is a soldier who had initially entered the experiment to serve his country. After deleting the soldier's memory, they have placed him in Wonderland where he currently resides.

Experiment #4 - The Ringmaster (they/she, inspired by Forever Nenaa, Alice from Alice in Wonderland, Eri from MHA, Mob from Mob Psycho 100, Maladaptive Daydreaming and other Dissociative Disorders): A completed Wonderland alpha test. The Higher-Ups had successfully destroyed the land of their enemy, and the Higher-ups requested the usage of one of the few child survivors to be the subject for their alpha test of Wonderland. The machine used for the Ringmaster's Wonderland differs greatly from the what's seen in the final version, especially the room assigned to every other Wonderland user, which is much bigger. The Ringmaster is in complete control of her own Wonderland, like a regular ringmaster with their circus. The machine that powers and runs the Ringmaster's Wonderland is completely powered by itself, so the Ringmaster has been happily living in their Wonderland for two decades.

Magical Girls States

Ever since @greatinternetllama's magical girls but with states post I've been getting ideas here and there about what an AU of that could look like.

I didn't want just the states doing magical girl transformations and fighting the [insert monster of the week here] because it sounded kinda boring. I also wanted some more dramatic fight scenes, so it would be fun if some states were that enemy of the week. With all that, I came up with this.

American Dream: Magical States

NOTE: This is extremely bare bones. I haven't had the motivation or time to fully flesh this out.

It was a pretty normal time in the Statehouse, Florida's being chaotic, the Northeast are this close to brawling, and Gov is trying so very hard to keep things together. However, some states start acting strangely. They're not really paid much mind until, uh oh! Those states have gone to sleep, and nothing anyone does can wake them up!

It's concluded that they're stuck in their dreams, and the states are going to have to go in and get them out. Cue the magical girl transformations and the various reactions to their new duds. Some of them complain about the "girly" clothes, some of them don't really care about that, and some of them are concerned that Florida is now on fire.

Because I'm me, Team Spirit is also included in this AU. However, their magical girl outfits will also include their Spirit. And now everyone can see it in the dream world! They may also be related to whatever special power they get.

In the dream world, they only get one life. Dream immortality is traded for enhanced physical ability and superpowers. If a state dies in the dream, they get kicked out into the real world and can't join back in to continue fighting. Once they go into the dream world, the state can’t be woken up through any external means. The only way they will come back out is if they save all the afflicted people or die trying.

Magical Outfit Motifs

Florida: Traditional magical girl (Weapon - Staff with gator head on top)

Florida has the most traditional look as I'd imagine he'd be the poster boy of the AU. Although, his outfit should look like it could be worn on a hot sunny day or to the beach.

Outfit details: Large sunhat (elevation of bucket hat), large spiked collar with chain, 2-piece bikini and skirt

Colors: White, pink, sky blue. Orange is mainly included in his State Spirit.

The weapon and especially its topper is based on Albert, that white gator plush Ben has. It holds an orange orb in its mouth.

Despite the outfit giving classic magical girl vibes, Florida very much does not fight with any sort of grace.

Louisiana: Victorian French inspired (Weapon - French-style saber)

Compared to Florida's outfit, Loui's silhouette is more sleek as contrast and to be aerodynamic.

Outfit details: Has a heart shaped cleavage window, exposed back, coattails

Colors: Black, yellow, green, purple

Power: Wings, he has very agile flight compared to other states that can go airborne for a bit

The guard of his saber resembles a pelican.

Massachusetts: Revolutionary War inspired garb

New York: Ice skater or royal/mob boss aesthetic

Outfit details: Large coat cape, some crown of sorts

Weapon: Ice skates or studded bat

The ice skater idea came first, but then I wouldn’t get to use a bat as his weapon.

North Carolina: Ghost pirate (Weapon - Six flintlock pistols)

Colors: Black, green, blue

He can summon as many pistols as he wants through the two holster belts strapped across his chest, though only six appear at a time.

Utah: Priest

Outfit details: He has long angel sleeves in the shape of bee wings. His priest garb includes a yellow honeycomb pattern.

Colors: White, yellow, black

Spitballing

I’m trying to give them more specialized powers rather than big ones like firebending or earthbending to make it easier to come up with unique powers for all of them.

The states will probably die off one by one in order to rack up the tension and gradually thin the roster.

As for the states stuck in their dreams, I have California and Nevada as ones I'm sure of. Each region will probably have two states that need saving. Maybe Gov or even DC will need to be saved too.

Nevada: His silver hands now have an infectious property. Anything that he touches with his hands will turn into solid silver that he can manipulate. He can form silver cards to serve as ranged weapons in order to spread the silver further. Nevada will utilize the environment of his casino battleground such as by swinging from his new chandelier or even turning his patrons into silver to use as shields. He will do whatever it takes to win.

California: Not so much a person as they are a force of nature. His golden halo shines bright like the sun and its rays will burn the lands around it indiscriminately. Laser focused light will split the earth and shatter it.

Had this idea of Loui sacrificing himself to protect Florida. Specifically, he gets impaled through that heart-shaped window on his chest. (If you know why a pelican is on the state flag, this symbolism makes more sense.) Before that happened, Florida treated this whole thing like a game, he had superpowers and could now do these awesome moves and kick so much butt. But his best friend sacrificing himself was a cold splash of reality. Florida starts taking this a lot more seriously, and he also combines his staff with Loui's saber to create a scythe weapon. (The gator head bites down on the sword's handle.) He becomes a terrifyingly competent fighter, even more so than before.

Would a female mafia boss mello be more unhinged, crazy, cautious, warry, and have power over the fake ID industry? Like, she would have a lot of escape plans in case she's 'caught'

K:-I don't know if you can graduate whammies without having an escape option.Near went with Money, Mello broke out and pursued crime, and L committed identity theft. 

E:-Doesn't another DN world story implied a bunch of them go military at some point??

K:-I never read that

E:-And a lot of them are familiar with weapons. No doubt thanks to Roger and Watari. So there is another series of the books with a different version of how L dies. It talks about some other alphabet prodigies who have died in action or got killed.

K:-I wonder if it counts as more of An AU spinoff like hopes, or is a different world variant like birthright vs conquest?

E:-It is seeing their L died a different way compared to the manga/anime.

K:-So more like birthright vs conquest?

E:-Though I can still see Roger being hard to please grandparents. He doesn't like you but cares enough to make sure you stay alive.

K:-Except the divergent point is the Death Note was never dropped?

No its always dropped. Just outcome is different how L dies or Lives.

In one case Watari died but L faked his death and made it back to Whammies.

K:-How do you successfully fake your death when someone has shinigami eyes?

E:-I got no freaking clue. Which feels inconsistent.Or was it Watari who lived and L died. Either way DN shrugs and goes "I dunno."

K:-Like the shinigami eyes are so broken, that I'm pretty sure even if L poured Acid in Misas eyes she could still see.

E:-Taking Justice being blind to a whole new level.

K:-Neither Mikami nor Soichiro showed signs of having trouble seeing with their glasses on, despite the fact the prescription would make what they saw blurry and distorted with their improved vision.

K:-OK, maybe not quite, but Misa made the end deal at least twice. And so if L theoretically Blinded Misa she could make the eye deal again, as

Giving up half your life span can give you vision to rival eagle vision.OK, not quite. But like, 72/20 vision  is broken, and how do you fake your death to someone who can see your lifespan?

But I still don't see how they could successfully fake your death.

I wonder what gaining shinigami eyes does to your cones and rods.OK well probably a lot to your cones. But I have to wonder if night vision improved too. 

The simplified form of 72/20 is 18/5 which is slightly lower then Eagles 20/5 vision. Eagles can see stuff like an ant crawling on the ground from the top of a ten story building.  

Eagles Retinas are deeply covered with cones enhancing their power to resolve fine details. They also have a deeper fovea then humans. "

K:-Mello is already unhinged regardless of gender, as Mello left Whammies school of crime fighting for orphans and proceeded to take over the American mafia. Somehow... 

We the viewer, are never shown how. Just that he destroyed a mob boss not even Kira could find. Then successfully held it for anywhere from 1-3 years.   Whatever Mello did, would have had to have been crazy,  cautious, wary, and unhinged. 

He pulls a kidnapping to get his hands on a Death Note. And not only that, he kidnapping the person who he thought was Kira's sister to pull it off.

He blows up the warehouse to escape capture. 

He  tried to blackmail the president of the United States. 

Do we need to Amp up any of the mentioned qualities? Admitibly Female Mello is going to act more dangerously anyways, as what's unsafe for Male Mello, is even more unsafe for a female, but there's already nothing safe about a teenager running the American Mafia, so boy or girl, Mello is setting a reputation as someone not to cross, but the girl has to play even harder hardball, due to gender reasons. 

More escape plans? Maybe. If it suits as foil to Light. 

Personally  I like to think Matt is her forger, and one of the reasons Matt was brought. Forger Matt!
