Rae: There would be this whole running bit about Rae jumping into a fight, Wade thinking she's going to get herself killed and trying to save her (not in a sexist way, just because she's super reckless when it comes to fights and doesn't seem to think things through - and while Wade does the same, Rae doesn't have the same kind of healing factor), only to show up and get his own ass beat while Rae's shields actually keep her in reasonably good shape. It would be like a "false mentor" sort of dynamic, really played up, where Wade keeps calling himself "Mr. Miyagi" or referring to her as his "Padawan" and stuff like that while Rae's just like "Dude. I'm an X-Man. I've done this before. I don't need your help.".
And bonus: while I'd want there to be a Warren cameo (since there's always a "guy with the pigeon wings" reference in the movies lmao), I think it would be funnier if he just never shows up. Like, if the movie keeps intentionally finding excuses for him not to be there. He's caught in traffic ("he has wings, can't he just fly?"). He's babysitting Rae's nephew. He's in line at the DMV. Right at the end, Rae and Wade are in a hotel room or something, watching Golden Girls reruns after all the wild antics the movie's put them through, and we hear the shower running with the assumption that it's Warren... and instead it's Wolverine or Colossus or Dopinder or some other random character.
On the one hand it would piss me off to have such an opportunity for my favorite character to have more screentime and just never show him, but objectively I think it would be fucking hilarious because he's been referenced so many times in the other movies but has never shown up.
Robin: This would be an interesting one. Lots of references to Black Tom Cassidy (her cousin, was the butt of a lot of jokes in DP2) and that would probably annoy her after a while. But on a nicer note, it's already canon that he knows ASL and would flip up his mask so she can read his lips (he does the same for Hawkeye in the comics), so... accessibility! Yay!
Madison: Lots of mermaid jokes that Madison finds absolutely infuriating. She throws more than one knife at him. They wouldn't get along - not like they're enemies, just... mutual annoyances for the sake of comedy. Every scene they share involves some form of reluctant team-up, lots of taunting, etc.. Post-credits scene shows Madison knocking on Wade's door seemingly out of the blue, only to reveal that she's actually there for a girl's night with Vanessa - their friendship being the only reason she kept teaming up with Wade.
Ophelia: Copious amounts of fourth-wall-breaking Spiderverse references for her being a female Doc Ock, but aside from that she's pretty good at going toe-to-toe with him with that witty banter and I think that knocks him off-guard a little. She can't quite break the fourth wall, but all that jumping through the multiverse has allowed her to gently tap it (*turns to camera* The Proposal...) at times. There are still some things that go over her head, but they've got a bit of a rapport going
Gia: Even if they somehow managed to cross paths, she'd be almost a nothing character to him. Not in a mean way, he's not intentionally disregarding her or anything, but with her being so meek and anxious and barely willing to leave her shop, they probably wouldn't share many scenes. All I'm imagining is like... the rest of his team in the throes of some grand bloody battle, and here's Wade popping into this random flower shop and casually asking to buy a bouquet for Vanessa. He's being a chatterbox while Gia prepares the bouquet, throws her a lot of opportunities for jokes she doesn't understand, mumbles something "tough crowd" adjacent, pays, and leaves. She'd basically be the "straight man" cameo in an otherwise-chaotic scene.

Lian looks proud.  “My first word was Daddy,” she tells Jason.  “I bet Dani’s will be, too, since she has two daddies.”
It takes Jason a moment to process what Lian is talking about, and when he realizes it, Roy is suppressing a huge peal of laughter and Dick’s eyes are so wide they’re about to pop right out of his skull.

The view has changed.
When Romina Falcone was a child, she had stood in this very office at the right hand of her grandfather and looked out this very window, down into the sprawling urban jungle. She’d thought Gotham City was beautiful. Carmine had a story for every building, every street, every truck and car and pedestrian. The businessman who needed funds to keep his product line moving, soon to be in debt to their family. The district attorney’s office who wanted to cut fiscal corners on an exterior remodel, soon to enter into a contract with them. The gas station at a particularly desirable intersection, soon to be abandoned and auctioned off - the delivery van pulling up to the pump, soon to motivate the owners to abandon it. There was nothing, he said, that was out of reach for them. There was no one who could afford not to answer their call.
She sits in the seat he once sat in, her brother at her right hand, the city laid out below her, and she sees none of it.
“Romina? Are you listening?” her brother asks, angry.
“Obviously not,” she tells him. Who would she pick out of this crowd, if she was her grandfather? The woman in the suit, maybe - a journalist, ambitious and easily bought. The corner bistro, in the red for the third year in a row, about to be turned down for a loan extension. The restless pawn shop security guard, washed out from the police academy, in need of a better outlet to exert his will upon the public.
One by one, she thinks. One by one, they will all be within her grasp.
“ - drives me fuckin’ insane,” her brother is complaining, now, to their cousin Antoni and their new employee, Tiberius. “Never listens to a goddamn word I say - “
“Mario.” Romina turns in her chair to face him.
“What?” he demands.
She raises a dark eyebrow.
He straightens, and appears to compose himself. Much better. “Sorry, Ro. There’s a situation at City Hall that I’ve just been made aware of.”
When he doesn’t immediately go on, she feels a flash of irritation. “Well?”
“It seems that several records were accessed over the weekend - the logs were deleted, but our alert system was set off before they covered their tracks.” A dark look passes over his face. “They were looking into Uncle Vincenzo.”
Romina understands. Vincenzo Rizzuto, her mother’s half-brother, is the name they’ve been recruiting under, a name relatively yet-unknown in Gotham. They hid the real Vincenzo well - Romina had Antoni remove her uncle’s head and hands after he killed him, and since the man had been in the country illegally from Montreal, there should have been almost no way to identify his body. The city coroner’s office hadn’t managed it, but obviously, someone else did.
She taps her fingers against the desk. “How inconvenient.”
Tiberius looks curiously between them. “Think it was law enforcement?”
Antoni barks out a laugh. Romina has to agree - besides, she’s been given the distinct impression that Gotham PD is more than willing to welcome them back into the fold.
Unruffled by their scorn, Tiberius moves on. “Surveillance?”
“Plenty,” Mario says. A vein begins to throb in his forehead. “Doesn’t appear to be tampered with. There’s a camera pointed directly at the terminal that was accessed. Didn’t pick up shit.”
“Ah,” Romina nods. An invisible researcher. This explains Mario’s bad mood. “A meta-human, then.”
“Fuckers,” Antoni grumbles.
Tiberius glances around at them, faint amusement in his pale features. “Can I speak freely?”
“No,” Mario spits, but Romina holds up her hand.
“You may.”
Tiberius cracks his knuckles. “I know your family is more...traditional, let’s say, but you guys aren’t seeing the big picture. A lot’s changed since your grandfather was in charge, not just in Gotham. Meta-humans are a resource. A fucking gold mine. You can hire them, create them, sell them, buy them - as a commodity, they bring a higher return than almost anything else out there. And the scope of the industry is unlimited. The Russians are already in the process of cornering the market in Bludhaven. You could have shipping routes all the way out to - ”
He stops, suddenly, because Mario’s patience has expired. He advances heavily on Tiberius, clicking the safety off on his pistol. Romina wonders idly whether it would be more prudent to buy off or to threaten the city clerk to alter their records. It’s too late this time, but it would do well to have someone in City Hall working for them, in the future.
“How many times,” her brother seethes, “do we have to tell you, Tiberius. We’re taking the metas out. Your freak squad has been running this town for too goddamn long.”
“Hey, they’re not my freak squad,” Tiberius protests, putting his hands up. “I’m just pointing out a business opportunity, shit.”
Antoni looks between them, interested. Romina sighs.
“Enough,” she says coolly. “Mario, stand down. Tiberius, you’ve overstayed your welcome. If I want business propositions from you, you’ll know.”
Tiberius straightens his jacket, glaring around at them all dispassionately. He’ll not last much longer, she thinks.
“Antoni, when are the trucks coming in from Chicago?”
“Should be within the hour, boss.” He grins at her. Romina feels a wave of affection for her younger cousin, all bloodlust and mania. If their grandfather had known him, he would surely have adored him as well.
“Go meet them,” she instructs. “Take Tiberius with you. He should meet our cousin Nicola, since he’s so interested in the family’s shipping routes.”
Antoni grins wider. Perhaps Romina was too careless with her phrasing - if Antoni can tell she means to replace Tiberius with Nicola Viti, then he can probably guess it as well. No matter. With both cousins watching him, he won’t have an opportunity to betray them.
Once they leave, Mario comes to stand next to her, turning his gaze out the window to mirror hers.
“It looks different,” he says, sliding his Beretta back into its holster. “That’s what you were thinking about, isn’t it?”
“It is,” she replies. “But I find that the longer I look, the less different it seems.” And indeed, the view is becoming clearer. The run-down garage two blocks over, its owners tired and brittle and all too willing to sign away to new management. The half-finished housing project, abandoned by the city and looking for a new developer. The drug dealer squatting in its basement, hungry to ally himself with a steady supplier.
After a moment, Mario clears his throat. “We need to get rid of Tiberius. His ideals don’t align with ours.”
He’s right, of course. It won’t do to have one of their own sowing discord among the lower ranks. Romina has made one thing clear in their recruitment process - they’re not making a power play for Gotham’s meta-trafficking trade, not entering into competition with Scarecrow or Riddler or whichever absurd character is putting on a show to engage the Batman this week. They’re eliminating them. Meta-humans and theatrical villains might be an inescapable reality of their world, but Gotham belonged to their family first.
“I’m not ready for you and I to go public just yet,” she tells him. “We need Tiberius for one more thing, first.”
He doesn’t argue. “I hope it’s Susie. You’ve kept her waiting long enough.”
Romina scoffs. “She’s lucky that’s all I’m doing to her, after she disobeyed me. No, I’ll have him fetch her in a few more days. Do you think he’ll suspect the trap?”
“No,” Mario snorts. “He’s too convinced of his own importance. Didn’t even blink when I pulled my piece on him. He thinks he’ll wear you down, eventually.”
She nods, satisfied. “That was my read as well.”
“Is it really necessary, though, to risk alienating Susie?”
Romina purses her lips. “She was instructed to leave no survivors,” she says. “I served her an opportunity to settle a score up on a platter, and she repaid me by doing the exact opposite of what I asked. She knew there would be a cost.”
Mario looks skeptical. “Seriously, Ro, it was just a baby. It wouldn’t’ve even remembered its parents.”
“It doesn’t have to remember.” Romina thumbs over the scar on her wrist, the memento from all those years ago. “I don’t like giving orders to kill children, and I don’t expect Susie to like doing it, but it’s necessary to do. The Maronis left us alive, and where are they now? Scrambling in the shadows like rats, terrified to show their faces. You have to be prepared to hunt the children of your enemies, Mario, or they’ll grow up to hunt you.”
Mario grimaces. “It fucking creeps me out, when you talk like that.”
“It’s something our grandfather understood,” she tells him. “It’s practically colonial.”
“Jesus, Ro.”
She smirks. “Don’t like that comparison?”
“You know I don’t, but you’re right. Fuck,” he sighs. “Fine. I’m guessing you want to put Antoni on it?”
“It can wait, for now.” Antoni is reliable as a triggerman, with no limitations to speak of, but he does have a habit of going off-script, and Romina doesn’t want any more deviations in this particular directive. “As you said, it’s only a baby. It can’t pose a threat to us for some time yet.”
Mario exhales, relieved.
On to more pressing matters. “Do you know, I think it’s time we started recruiting in Bludhaven.”
“I agree,” he says, immediately. “The Russians have been struggling to gain a foothold since losing Intergang. It’s the perfect time to strike.”
“And once we deal with them, the entire canal will be ours,” she muses. “Start looking for someone to run the cement factory, will you? I want that housing project on 15th.”
Mario grins wolfishly. “You don’t think it’s too early for city contracts? We can’t take them out under Vincenzo’s name, you know.”
“No,” she agrees. “But it’s nearly time.”
The view is shifting, the longer she looks. The points of connection are starting to take shape, the lines of power that her grandfather once saw so clearly all leading back into the palm of his hand. Recruitment is child’s play - the people of this city are as tired of the Bats and the Jokers as she is. It’s more than a mission, it’s her birthright. Her father was too foolish and weak to recognize it, but Romina was born with her grandfather’s soul. Now, in his office, with the city laid out before her, she begins to understand how he must’ve felt, back then. She can almost taste it in the air. Gotham is ready to come back to them, and Romina is ready to seize it all.

“I gotta say, I’m a little hurt,” Roy says, throwing a sideways look at Jason.
Jason’s ninety-nine percent sure he’s gonna follow up with something obnoxious, but he gives him an indulgent glance over his coffee cup all the same. “Yeah?”
“That you didn’t call me, you tool. Why wasn’t I the first person to know about this?! Instead I gotta hear it from Donna, who heard it from Wally, who heard it from Dick!! Not cool, dude!”
Jason feels a headache coming on. They’re out on the balcony outside Dick’s room, and it’s as spacious as a balcony for a single bedroom can be, but it’s starting to feel claustrophobic all the same. “It was need-to-know, okay? I was going to tell you, obviously. In case you didn’t notice, I’ve had a few other things on my mind.”
Roy isn’t having it. “You know how Wally knew? Because Dick called him to ask for advice. Because Wally is a father. Kind of like someone else you guys know, right?”
“I did call you,” Dick says from the balcony doorway. Dani is awake in his arms, and Roy’s five year old daughter Lian is at his side peering up at her in fascination. “You didn’t answer.”
Roy flushes slightly. “Well, without a text, how was I supposed to know why you were calling? I figured it was something like, world-ending-cavalry-calling thing. Can’t blame me for wanting to sit it out.”
Dick nods at Jason. “But you’d answer for him?”
“Hell yes I would. I happen to like him better, no offense,” Roy says, offense clearly intended. Dick rolls his eyes.
Jason doesn’t exactly know what went on between the two of them, except that it happened when he was dead. Roy hasn’t been forthcoming about it, and he’s never bothered asking Dick. Clearly it’s not completely water under the bridge just yet, but Dick looks happy enough to see him, and Roy didn’t even blink at letting Lian run off with him, so Jason thinks they must be starting to make up. Really, it’s the last thing he should be hoping for. Dealing with either of them one-on-one is bad enough. If they get chummy again, he’s done for.
“You’re shit out of luck, then,” he says to Roy, about half a second before he remembers the guy’s daughter is standing right there. “Crap. Uh, sorry, Lian.”
“Daddy says ‘shit’ all the time,” Lian replies, shaking her dark hair back from her face. “Shit is just poop, really, so it’s not such a bad word.”
Dick laughs. “So wise.”
“When can baby Dani learn to talk?”
“Um…” Dick looks at Jason, who shrugs helplessly. “Probably not for a while, I’m guessing. She’s only four months old, so she has a lot of milestones to hit before then.”
Lian tilts her head comically. “What’s mile-stones?”
“That’s just a name for important things that babies learn to do, sweetheart,” Roy tells her. “Things like rolling over, grabbing their feet, sitting up, and standing up. You hit all your milestones right on time.”
“Grabbing their feet? That’s silly, Daddy.”
“Hey, it’s an important motor skill, kiddo. Just as important as first words. You were a foot-grabbing prodigy, so I should know.”
Lian looks proud. “My first word was Daddy,” she tells Jason. “I bet Dani’s will be, too, since she has two daddies.”

“We’re not - I’m not her dad, Lian. She’s not my kid.” Jason should probably just shut the hell up, since he doesn’t think Roy would be too happy about him explaining why Dani is in their care in the first place to his young, already somewhat traumatized daughter.
“We’re just taking care of her,” Dick adds, gently. Lian looks puzzled.
“So you’re babysitting her?”
“Exactly, yeah.”
“Hey pumpkin,” Roy says, reaching over and patting her on the cheek. “We’ll talk about this more later, okay? Let’s not ask too many questions to Dick and Jason, you know how silly Bats are about their secrets.”
“Oh, right,” Lian giggles, looking between them all conspiratorially. “Especially Mister Bruce, right, Daddy?”
Dick raises his eyebrows. “You told your daughter Batman’s secret ID?”
“You wanna fight about it?” Roy asks. His tone is teasing, but there’s a hint of real challenge in his eyes.
Lian looks confused, and Jason takes pity on her. “Guys, knock it off.” He shoves Roy’s shoulder lightly, and shoots a hard look at Dick. “Not in front of the kids, come on.”
Dani, fortunately, diffuses the tension by spitting up in a truly spectacular fashion all over her onesie and Dick’s arm.
Roy bursts out laughing. “Okay, I gotta say, I do not miss that.”
“Did she just barf?” Lian looks horrified.
“No, this is something babies do a lot,” Dick reassures her. “Usually it puts her in a much better mood when she does it, so it’s actually a good thing.”
“Okay…” Lian says uncertainly. “It’s kind of gross.”
“Kind of,” Dick grins. “I’ll just go change her, and, um, wash up.”
“Can I help? Can I pick out her clothes?” Lian looks at Roy excitedly.
“Sure, you’ll be a lot better at picking them out than me,” Dick beams back at her. “Be right back, guys.”
Once they’re out of earshot, Roy turns to Jason. “I didn’t tell her Batman’s secret ID, just so you know. He told her himself a couple years ago, after the attack on Star City. We were all up in the Watchtower, and he didn’t have his cowl...it was such a crazy day, I honestly never thought she’d remember it.”
Jason nods peaceably. “I don’t really give a shit, to tell you the truth.” It’s not quite the truth, actually, but hopefully Roy won’t call him on it.
“Just saying. Anyways, Jaybird, what the hell is going on with you and Dick? Are you fucking?”
Jason almost spits out his coffee. “What?”
“Is it really that weird of a question? You’re living here all of a sudden, raising a baby together, I mean.” Roy tilts his head, looking remarkably like his daughter. “Okay, I guess you’re not fucking.”
“We’re not anything,” Jason says, more harshly than he means to. “Jesus Christ.”
Roy gives him a look of dawning comprehension, which Jason doesn’t like at all. “I see.”
“Do you.” Jason narrows his eyes. “Well, fucking don’t.”
“All right, all right. I’ll cut you a break since I remember what it’s like to be up to your eyeballs in diapers and sleep deprived as hell and being expected to deal with your asshole friends like everything’s normal.” He leans forward to pour more coffee in Jason’s mug. “Talk to me about the kid, then. You said she’s not sleeping very well?”
Jason shakes his head. “She was sleeping great until this past week, I have no idea what changed. Every single noise in the room wakes her up. And if she catches sight of me, it’s all over. She just cries and cries until I pick her up, and she wakes up again if I try to put her down.”
“Damn,” Roy says sympathetically.
“I haven’t gone out in four nights,” Jason tells him, running a hand through his hair in frustration. “Dick’s got Russians to deal with in ‘Haven, so he hasn’t been able to take a night off, and I can’t…I just can’t leave her. Doesn’t seem right.”
“You shouldn’t, anyways, if your head’s back here,” Roy says. “Learned that one the hard way.”
“I don’t know what the fuck to do, then. It’s not a fever, she’s not hungry, or wet, she just won’t sleep.”
Roy leans forward. “Listen. This is actually a totally normal, completely awful thing called a ‘sleep regression’ that nobody fucking tells you about before you have a kid. They go through them every couple months, usually before hitting a major milestone. It’s fucked, but it’ll pass, I promise.”
Jason stares at him in surprise.
“What? I know things, fuck you.”
Jason kicks him lightly under the table. Not the best demonstration of thankfulness he could’ve come up with, but it’s all he’s got. “So what do I do, until it passes? Just keep holding her all the time?”
“You could try, but honestly, I think that’ll just make it worse. Do you have a white noise machine?”
“Yeah.”
“Have you tried really cranking that sucker up?”
“Yep.”
“Have you tried putting her in the swing?”
Jason frowns. “They’re not supposed to sleep in there.”
“What, really? Says who?” Roy looks incredulous.
“The fucking American Pediatric Association, that’s who. It says so right on the box. It’s a suffocation hazard.”
Roy’s forehead creases with worry. “No shit? Damn, no one told me about that. I used to put Lian to sleep in that thing all the time when nothing else was working.”
Jason spreads his hands. “Any other ideas?”
“Yeah, actually. Babies have REM cycles, you know, they’re just different from ours. When they’re in a sleep regression, you gotta wait until they’re deeply asleep to put them down. Give it, like, ten extra minutes after she falls asleep.”
“I can do that,” Jason agrees. “Doesn’t do me a lot of good, though, if she wakes up as soon as I fucking cough or unload my gun.”
“Oh yeah?” Roy cocks an eyebrow. “We’re unloading rubber bullets now?”
Jason kicks him again. “Shut up.”
“Shit, Jay. I just can’t believe Dickie is okay with it.”
Jason can’t quite believe it either. He keeps the loaded gun hidden in a shoulder holster under his jacket, but he’s not stupid enough to think that Dick hasn’t noticed.
Roy stretches his arms behind his head. “Sure nothing’s going on between you two?”
“Roy, I’m not having this conversation,” Jason says.
Roy grins. Jason hates that grin. “Alright. So, if she always wakes up when you’re in the room, don’t be in the room. Get a monitor and sleep in Dick’s room. Problem solved.”
Jason takes a long drink of coffee, trying to calm the sudden hammering in his pulse. “Yeah, that’s not fucking happening.”
“Why? If there’s nothing going on between you…”
“Roy,” Jason growls.
“Daddy, look! I helped baby Dani get dressed!”
They both turn to look at Lian in the doorway, standing in a superhero pose with her hands planted on her hips. “Ta-da!” she announces, leaping aside with a flourish. Dick appears behind her, lips pressed together like he’s trying hard not to laugh, Dani presented forward in his arms in a little red dress, red bloomers, and little red socks with white hearts. A little red bow is just visible among her tufts of black hair, and Jason’s heart throbs violently in his chest.
“Wow, sweetie!” Roy opens his arms and gives her a big hug. “Red, huh?”
“I think it’s her favorite color,” Lian says, shyly glancing at Jason. “It’s mine, too.”
Jason swallows. “Where the hell did that dress even come from?” He doesn’t know why he bothers asking, he doesn’t have a clue where any of Dani’s clothes come from. They seem to just materialize in her drawers, and he could probably pinpoint who purchased each item if he laid them all out and put his mind to it, but he finds it’s much easier just not to think about it.
“I don’t remember who got this one, actually.” Dick peeks at the tag. “It’s Ralph Lauren. Maybe Helena?”
“Hey Dick, I was just spitballing ideas with Jason,” Roy says, suddenly. Jason goes to kick him again, but damnit, he’s still holding Lian. Using his own kid as a shield, the fucker.
Dick looks up from bouncing Dani, his eyes widening innocently. “Oh yeah?”
“Yeah, about your kid’s sleep issues. Jay said she’s startling easily, once she’s down.”
Dick looks at Jason apologetically. “It’s been rough,” he admits. “Sorry, I know you haven’t gotten much sleep either.”
“Apparently it’s totally normal,” Jason says quickly, glaring at Roy. “Roy says it’ll pass in no time. Don’t worry about me.”
“I was suggesting, actually, that she might have an easier time if Jason wasn’t clattering around all the time and waking her up,” Roy goes on, pulling Lian up into his lap. Jason is going to kill him. “You’ve got room, right, Dick? Makes more sense for you two to share so she can get some peace and quiet.”
“Oh!” Dick spares Jason a fleeting glance. “That does make sense...we have the video monitor, after all. You are kind of loud, when you take off your armor.”
Jason crosses his arms. Everyone’s a fucking critic. “Fine. I’ll sleep on the floor, whatever.”
Dick makes a face. “Jason…”
Roy gives him an exasperated look. “What is this, cooties? Are you twelve?”
Lian tugs at his sleeve. “What’s cooties?”
“It’s what Jason’s scared of getting if he sleeps in the same bed as Dick, sweetheart. It’s super silly.”
Dani has apparently had enough of being held on display like a doll, and fusses loudly, kicking out towards Jason and curling both hands up toward her face. Jason can tell she’s a few seconds from a full meltdown - they’ve been coming on faster and faster, since this whole “sleep regression” started. He’s on his feet in a heartbeat, and Dick passes her over without a word. It’s a little terrifying how used to this they both are, Jason thinks as he brings Dani up to his chest. She’s already bigger than the tiny ten-pound bundle that had turned up at the Manor just a few weeks ago, and she’s outgrown the first sets of pajamas they’d put her in. He pats her back soothingly, feels the patch of drool on his shirt that indicates she’s stuffed her fingers in her mouth again. Normally, he’d drop a kiss on her head, but he finds himself reluctant to do so in front of Roy. He doesn’t want Roy to read anything into it - he’s already given away too much during this visit.
“Awww, she’s so cute,” Lian giggles, leaning against her dad. “I wish I could hold her, Daddy.”
“Maybe next time, honey. Baby Dani just wants her grown-up right now. You know how that feels, don’t you?”
Lian nods, looking up at Jason. “Yeah.”
Jason feels ridiculously exposed, under their twin gazes. If it wasn’t for Dani, he’d have jumped over the railing already.
“What are you guys up to for the rest of the day?” Dick asks, rescuing him from their unnerving combined perception.
Roy gives his daughter a nudge. “What are we doing, pumpkin?”
Lian lights up. “We’re going to see Donna!”
“Her favorite,” Roy confirms, grinning down at her. “They’re having a girl’s night, apparently. I’m not invited.”
“Maybe when Dani is bigger, she can come to a girls night with us,” Lian suggests wistfully. Dick looks sad, and Jason doesn’t have the heart to tell her that’s never going to happen.
“Hey, wouldn’t that be fun.” Roy ruffles her hair playfully. “You’d have to share Donna, though.”
Lian pulls back to give him a reproachful look. “I know how to share, Daddy.”
“Sheesh, okay. Anyways, I’ll be around, if either of you needs a wingman,” Roy says, looking between Dick and Jason hopefully.
“I’m staying in,” Dick says. Jason blinks, this is news to him. “Russians are laying low, and no one’s sprung our Falcone cousin from jail yet, shockingly. I know you’re going stir-crazy, so I’ll stay with her tonight.”
Jason feels a surge of warmth towards Dick. He is going nuts, and not just from sleep deprivation. It’ll do him a world of good to get out and get some real exercise, check on all his favorites in the neighborhood and put the fear of the Red Hood back into all the local dirtbags. Tim’s been doing a more than decent job on keeping him updated, and Jason’s grateful, but there’s something to be said for good old fashioned violence when it comes to keeping his people in line. Jason’s itching for it - he hasn’t been back in the field properly for way too long.
“You up for it, Jaybird?” Roy asks. His eyes are practically sparkling - Jason can already feel the beginnings of regret. “It’s been a minute since we teamed up.”
Jason sighs out heavily. “Yeah, okay.”
“Don’t get too excited,” Roy laughs. “It’ll be fun! I can impart more sagely parenting advice, you can, um - ” he cover’s Lian’s ears “ - b-a-s-h some s-k-u-l-l-s, it’ll be real therapeutic.”
Lian swats at his hands. “Daddy.”
Jason looks at Dick. “You sure B’s okay with you taking a night off?”
“I’ll make him okay with it,” Dick says grimly. “Besides, I miss her.”
God help him, Jason’s going to miss her too, when he’s out for the evening. Not enough to want to stay in, but damn close.
He looks down at her, dozing lightly against his chest, one round cheek pressed flat, the other drooping onto her curled up shoulder. An image flits through his mind - Dani, older, her tufts of hair grown out long like Lian’s, a wide, toothy smile on her face and her big brown eyes crinkled up at Jason. Calling to him, reaching for him. Daddy. It feels like a bullet piercing his heart, but he can’t stop imagining it. Can’t stop imagining her laughter, the solid feeling of her body in his arms…and someone else next to him, strong hands held out to catch hers, sweetheart sounding out in a voice he’s gravitated toward since he was thirteen years old -
“Jason? You having gas or something?” Roy sounds half amused, half concerned.
Fuck. “Headache,” Jason manages, shoving the intrusive images as far back into his subconscious as he can. God, does he know how to torture himself.
“Well, get rid of it. Imagine how embarrassing it’d be if you got k-i-l-l-e-d by some punk in the Bowery because you were off your game.”
Jason shrugs. “You’d avenge me.”
Roy laughs. “Damn right I would. I’d have to fight Dick here for the honor.”
“To get back at some Bowery punk? Nah, Dickie wouldn’t bother.”
Dick rolls his eyes, but his mouth is twisted with humor. “Hey, I might, depending on how embarrassing your demise was.”
Roy claps his hands. “See, if that’s not love, I don’t know what is.”
Dick goes pink, but he looks happy, at least. Jason imagines strangling Roy, to avoid anything revealing coming out of his mouth.
“I’d better go tell little D he’s got my patrol tonight,” Dick says, after a mildly suffocating moment of silence. “I’ll stick a bottle in the warmer for when she wakes up.”
“You are the worst person alive,” Jason tells Roy, once Dick is gone. “The worst. I literally don’t know why we’re friends.”
“Jason’s joking, sweet pea,” Roy grins at Lian.
Lian huffs dramatically. “I know that, Daddy.”
How the hell Roy Harper created such a great kid, Jason will never know. “What are you and Donna doing for your girl’s night?” he asks her, rocking Dani gently.
“So many fun things,” she tells him seriously. “I have a new Lego set, so we’re gonna build that, and then maybe we’ll play princess school? Or animal rescue school, or maybe both...and we’ll definitely watch a movie! And eat popcorn, of course.”
“Of course,” Jason nods.
She smiles at him, her nose scrunching adorably. “What are you and my daddy doing for your boy’s night?”
Jason makes eye contact with Roy. “Well, I doubt we’re gonna have as much fun as you.”
“No,” Roy agrees, tweaking her nose. “I think we’ll still have a pretty good time, though.”

Jason’s prepared for the worst, when they arrive in Crime Alley. He’s expecting his safe house to be trashed by squatters, his civilian apartment to be robbed, and all the local hot spots to be generally on fire. Well. Maybe not on fire, it does seem like Tim’s been doing a pretty good job covering for him. But still, he’s not expecting to roll into his territory and find it…quiet.
Roy takes to the rooftops, and Jason goes to the first busy street corner he sees. “Hey, Ginger,” he calls, jogging up to a working girl he’s got a friendly rapport with. “How’s it going?”
Ginger looks surprised to see him, but not unhappy. “You finally remember your address, Hood?”
“Doesn’t look like I needed to, though,” Jason remarks, glancing around. “Your girls are all good? Any problems that require my attention?”
“Aren’t you sweet.” Ginger looks over his shoulder, as though expecting someone to be there. “No Red Robin tonight? Damn.”
Wow, so that’s how it is. Jason’s already chopped liver. “Ouch,” he says in mock offense. “You know, it was me who told him which blocks to keep an eye on in the first place.”
“You can take that white knight shit straight back to wherever you’ve been hiding out, honey.” Ginger sounds unimpressed. He swears he was more intimidating a few weeks ago. She gives him a meaningful look and makes a shooing motion with her wrist. “It’s good to know you’re still in one piece, baby. Now run along, before you scare off all my customers.”
Taking the hint, Jason moves down the block to his favorite bar, a hideous dive run by a neighborhood relic called Mac Deveroux. Back when Jason was a kid, Mac had frequently paid him to make deliveries, taking alcohol and sometimes food to his customers who weren’t in a position to come and get it themselves. Most of the deliveries were superfluous errands that Mac could just as easily have run himself, but he liked Jason’s observational skills, and the real value of the trip was the gossip Jason was able to pick up along the way. Jason has no idea if Mac remembers him - it’s possible he had a dozen kids on his unofficial payroll, it’s equally possible that the years and the drinking have written Jason’s existence out of his mind. But the man is just as congenial and just as all-knowing about everyone’s business as he’s always been, so Jason makes it a habit to visit him and trade information.
“Hey, Mac,” he calls, pulling off his helmet and sliding into a seat at the end of the bar. He doesn’t always order a drink when he comes here, and he’s not planning on it tonight, but Mac seems to prefer talking to him in just the domino. “Been a minute.”
It’s early, so the place is still mostly deserted, except for a handful of local drunks in various stages of stupor. Mac looks startled for half a moment, then pulls his ballcap down and goes back to being inscrutable. “Glad to see you alive and well, Red.”
Why is everyone so surprised to see him? He’s only been off patrol for a week or so, and he was checking in every few days before that. “Some reason I shouldn’t be?”
Mac side-eyes him suspiciously. “Not especially. People talk. That friend of yours - Red Robin - stupid fucking name, by the way - he’s okay too?”
Jason picks up his helmet and switches the comm on. “Red Robin, Red Hood checking in. Are you dead or injured?”
Tim’s voice comes through almost immediately, annoyed. “Uh, no?”
Jason switches it back off. “Yep, still kicking. Pretty sure Batman hasn’t bit it either, but the night is young. What’s with the sudden concern for my well-being?”
Mac shakes his head. “Folks been talking lately, that’s all. Lots of shit about taking down the Bat, all the rest of the capes in Gotham. Can’t blame me for wondering.”
“People around here are always running their mouths,” Jason says dismissively. “Half the time they tell me about it to my face. Since when are you sweating shit like that?”
“Since it started seeming like more than just talk,” Mac says, serious. “I mean it, Red. You ought to watch yourself out there. And be careful who you talk to, too. I appreciate all you done for me, but it’ll be better if I don’t see you in my bar all too often. You need to chat, you’re better off coming in the back.”
Jason recalls how quickly Ginger had hurried him away, and feels his blood run hot with anger. So these fuckers think they can come onto his turf and threaten his people? They’re gonna be needing more than new kneecaps by the time he’s through with them.
He cracks his knuckles. “Right. Let’s go to the back, then.”
Mac meets him next to a stack of boxes behind his delivery door. He pulls out a joint and starts patting his pockets down, looking for a lighter.
“Here.” Jason fishes one out from his coat pocket, tosses it to him. Not like he’s lighting up much of anything these days.
“Appreciate you, man,” Mac says, catching it. “You want?”
Jason shakes his head briefly.
Mac nods, as though he expected Jason to decline. He exhales a stream of smoke. “Gives me a reason to be back here, you know.”
“Sure.” Jason leans cautiously against one of the stacks of boxes. “So, what’s all this chatter that’s got you and everyone else so spooked?”
“Hmm.” Mac takes another long drag off his joint. “Just a few too many mouths telling the same story in my bar, I’d say. I’m used to hearing guys talk big about taking you out. But this is different, they’re all telling the same story about somebody else taking you out. Taking all the Bat folks out, and the Jokers and the Scarecrow gang too. Saying it’s gonna be open season on all the capes and metas in Gotham, that sorta thing.”
Jason really doesn’t like the sound of any of this. “Who’s supposed to be taking us all out, exactly?”
“That’s the thing about it. No one wants to say, I don’t think most of ‘em even know. You heard about that bloodbath down by the docks, a month back?”
Jason tenses. “Uh-huh.”
Mac looks shrewd, suddenly. “You know who did it?”
Jason can tell from his tone that he doesn’t know, but that he’s dying to. “If someone like you hasn’t found out yet, Mac, I think it’s because certain people want it that way. Just like certain people don’t want you talking to me.”
“‘Certain people’ can kiss my ass,” Mac grumbles.
“Here’s a question, totally unrelated,” Jason says. “Does the name ‘Romina Falcone’ mean anything to you?”
Mac stares at him, dumbfounded. “No....Romina? Mario Falcone’s little girl?”
Jason shrugs one shoulder, trying to appear casual. “You heard anything about her being back in town?”
“No…she’s been gone from Gotham for years. Sad story, really. You know it?” Jason does, but since this is a casual inquiry, he motions for Mac to go on. “Her daddy was Carmine Falcone’s son, a real straight-shooting type, good student, honest, the whole nine yards. Never touched the family business.” Another long inhale off the dwindling joint. “When Falcone first went to prison, gotta be over twenty-five years ago now, the Maroni family took over. Mario wouldn’t throw in with them, so they killed him and his wife. The kids, Mario Jr. and Romina, went to live with relatives in Chicago, last I heard.”
A mob orphan, Jason thinks, just like Dani. Except that Romina and her brother hadn’t gone to live with just any relatives - they’d gone to live with the Viti family, headed by none other than Carmine Falcone’s bloodthirsty sister. “So, no one’s heard from her since then?”
“No one heard from her before then, either. She couldn’t’ve been more than eight or nine when all that shit went down,” Mac says doubtfully. “You sure your intel’s good?”
Jason’s deep in thought, suddenly. “Didn’t say anything about intel,” he tells Mac. “Just asking a question. I gotta go, though. Okay if I slip out the door here?”
Mac gestures obligingly. “Hey, be my guest. I’m gonna do myself a favor and forget this whole conversation now.”
Jason snorts. “Good idea. See you around, Mac.”
“Yeah, yeah. Watch your back out there, kid.”
Jason’s out the door before Mac’s parting words echo back to him. Watch your back out there - what was he, eleven? Twelve, the last time he heard those words?
Maybe it’s a coincidence. Or, maybe Mac Deveroux has a better memory than Jason gives him credit for.
He puts his helmet back on. “Arsenal, status report.”
“All good over here, Hoodster,” Roy replies brightly. “Knocked out a handful of drunk and disorderlies outside a Buffalo Wild Wings just now. Didn’t realize the Bowery was so gentrified already.”
Ugh. “Not all of it is,” Jason sighs. “But, yeah. Sure isn’t how it used to be, over there.”
“No kidding. I’m watching this girl steal a souped-up Camero right now. Ran the plates, and based on the owner’s resume, I might let her get away with it.”
Jason snorts out a laugh. “Works for me. I’ll come meet you over there, just give me ten.”
He’s barely made it two blocks when Oracle’s voice sounds in his ear, her tone making him snap to attention at once. “Hood, we have a situation.”
He stops still on a dingy government housing rooftop. “Go ahead, O.”
“It seems Susie Falcone was sprung from jail earlier today - we missed it because her release was processed under another name, but I have the video feed, and it’s definitely her.”
Oh, fucking finally. Jason was starting to think he wouldn’t have a chance to get any real exercise tonight. “You got a name for me?”
“Guy by the name of Tiberius. Albanian, according to Red Robin. I’m running his face through Interpol, but it takes time.”
Jason hops onto a nearby fire escape and swings up to the roof of an office building to get a better vantage point towards the harbor. “Is B gonna crap himself if I take the lead on this?”
Barbara’s quiet for a moment. “Do you care?”
Jason flexes his hand over the grip of the gun strapped to his thigh. “I mean, no,” he starts to say, knowing as soon as the words are out of his mouth that it’s not entirely true. “Just...it’ll be a pain in the ass if I have to fight a whole fucking mafia, plus him, that’s all.”
Oh, incredibly convincing. Jason’s surprised he doesn’t hear her laughing down the line.
“I think you know how to avoid his ire,” Barbara says. “You’re closest, so I’m putting you on it.”
“Okay. Thanks,” Jason adds, feeling more like an idiot by the second. Forget Dick, talking to Barbara always makes him feel about twelve fucking years old. At least she’s not openly judgmental about it. “Hey, Oracle. One last thing.”
“Oh? I’m listening.”
“Can you do some digging into the Viti family? I feel like there’s gotta be a reason Romina came back to Gotham now, when she could’ve made a play for the city years ago. If she’s been in Chicago all this time, it’s probably something to do with them.”
“…Yes,” Barbara says, slowly. Jason hears a flurry of typing. “Since they trade over state lines, that data will be with the Feds…it’ll take me a little while, I’ve got my hands full with some more urgent things right now. But it’s a good idea, Hood. You’ll know more as soon as I do.”
“Okay,” Jason agrees. “Thanks,” he adds, lamely.
She lets out a short huff of amusement, and Jason’s past self cringes at him in embarrassment. “Oracle out.”
Right. Tiberius. Jason’s been waiting for a chance to take on this ostentatiously-named asshole. From his own observations that night with Dick, and from Tim’s reports, the guy is a particularly sleazy type of hired muscle. Fantastic. Jason needs the workout.
He gives himself a shake, and then takes off towards the police impound lot. Within ten minutes, he’s found a suitable bike and is on his way to the East End, changing comm channels in his helmet to call Roy. “Arsenal, are you good to finish up my patrol? I got a lead on somebody in this mob case I need to handle.”
“Wow, Hood. And here I thought we were having a boy’s night.”
“Hey, if nothing’s going on over there, you’re welcome to join.”
“Yeah? Hey asshole, stay down,” he snarls. “Maybe I’ll meet you after I finish up.”
Jason hears a moan and a thud on Roy’s end. “Anybody interesting?”
“Just some model citizen I found trying to drag a passed-out woman into his car. Said she was his girlfriend, but he neglected to mention she dumped his ass two months ago.”
“Break his legs,” Jason proposes, feeling a mild rage rising in his chest.
“Red Hood says I should break your legs,” Roy tells the guy. “It’s not really my style, but I’m just temping over here. You’d better leave town, because if he finds you doing this shit again, you’re gonna wish I took him up on it.”
Please, man, Jason hears in the background. He hadn’t honestly expected Roy to take his suggestion. Turning onto a side street, he hears an alarm start to go off somewhere close by. Robbery, sounds like. Exactly what he’s looking for.
“Alright, I’m starting my manhunt,” he says to Roy. “You’ve got my coordinates if you need to find me.”
Roy makes some kind of hooting sound that Jason takes to be acknowledgment. “Make me proud.”
Jason kills the bike in an alley and parks it under a staircase, slipping a loop of electrified wire over the handlebars. Easy enough to disarm, but he’s not planning to be gone long. The store being robbed is a liquor store, and the goons smashing it up aren’t criminals so hardened that they’ll take any effort on his part to crack. He storms in the front, grabs the first guy, and throws him over the counter. The second pulls a gun on him - he shoots it out of his hand a split second later, then fires three more shots into a glass case of upscale liquor, to fairly spectacular effect. The remaining guys all hit the floor, visibly terrified. Jason holsters his gun.
“Hope you guys don’t mind me crashing this little party you’re having,” he calls, kicking the fallen gun to the side. “I need to find a guy by the name of Tiberius. First one to talk gets to walk away.”
They all goggle at him. “Did he say Tiberius?” one of them whispers.
“We don’t know anybody called that,” the one he tossed behind the counter says.
Jason clicks his tongue. “Wrong answer.” He fires a rubber bullet into the guy’s shoulder, and he goes down. By the time they realize it’s not a live round, he’ll be in the wind.
He holsters the gun again, and turns his attention on the one he’d disarmed. “Your turn.”
“We don’t know where he is,” the guy says quickly. “I only met the guy once. He doesn’t give us orders.”
“Who does he give orders to,” Jason counters, advancing on him menacingly.
“Dealers, mostly? My cousin Zion reports to him, he slings down by the Wharfside Pool Hall. Swear to God, man, I haven’t seen Tiberius since he moved us all off the docks.”
Jason looks around at the wreckage of the store, realizing something. “You guys aren’t robbing this place, are you.”
They don’t say anything. Jason doesn’t need them to - their silence is confirmation enough. They’ve been tasked by Romina and her lackeys to trash this place and force the owners to sell. And now he’s helped them do it. Fuck, this is why he hates mob cases.
Nothing to be done about it now. Once he puts a bullet in Romina’s skull, maybe he can come back and see that these people get their store back. First, he’s gotta find her.
“Be seeing you, gentlemen,” he says, tossing out a couple smoke pellets. “Don’t expect it to be as painless next time.”
It’s a quick ride to the Wharfside Pool Hall, and Oracle sends him a photo of Zion Lee on the way. He finds him immediately, parked on the corner by the emergency exit. It’s a short conversation. Zion doesn’t know where to find Tiberius either, but he does tell Jason where to find his supplier, and once Jason takes a look at the supplier’s rap sheet, he decides there’s not going to be a conversation at all. Kidnapping, trafficking, sexual battery - hell, if Jason can’t find Tiberius tonight, at least he can take his aggression out on this piece of garbage.
He roars up to the supplier’s house on the stolen bike and throws a smoke bomb through the window, the rush of impending violence like fire in his veins. Then, as luck would have it, he sees a familiar muscular figure rushing out the back door towards a Jaguar that’s parked in the shadows at the end of a driveway.
Tiberius, in the flesh. Looks like Jason’s date with this supplier will have to be postponed.
Quickly, he considers his options. The adrenaline junkie in him is tempted by the prospect of a good old-fashioned car chase, but this area is just a bit too residential for him to be strictly comfortable with it. Too bad. He lets Tiberius get to the end of the driveway, and then he shoots out the Jag’s tires. Tiberius returns fire immediately, which, again, is not the most desirable outcome in a residential neighborhood. Jason aims a shot at his firing hand, but the guy is already ducked down and reloading.
Fine. Jason will just have to throw something bigger at him, he supposes. He revs the bike’s engine, kicks off and guns it towards the Jaguar, bailing off to the side when Tiberius stands up to shoot at him some more. The bike keeps going, propelled by momentum, and crashes beautifully into the driver's side of the Jag, knocking Tiberius hard to the pavement when the open door that he’s been using as a shield swings violently sideways with the rest of the car.
He doesn’t stay down, of course. Before the impact is even finished reverberating through both vehicles, he’s hopping back up, more nimbly than Jason would’ve expected, given his size, and taken off running down the street. Jason pushes himself up and hightails after him, the thrill of the hunt making him practically giddy, his heart accelerating with the pace of his boots against the concrete.
Damn, but it feels good to exert himself. Jason’s been cooped up for too fucking long. Tiberius is seriously in shape, and fast, almost as fast as Dick, too fast for Jason to catch without playing dirty. He’s running too hard to aim with any real accuracy at a moving target, but he squeezes off a half dozen shots at the car windows Tiberius is running past, and the resulting spray of breakaway glass slows him just enough that Jason is able to launch a kick at the back of his knees and tackle him to the ground. They tussle - Tiberius pulls a knife and manages to wedge the blade under Jason’s chestplate, but luckily the tip of it catches on the kevlar, and Jason is able to knock it away before it does any real damage. He headbutts Tiberius savagely, breaking his nose and sending him sprawling out over the basement landing of a boarded-up tattoo parlor.
Before Jason can get up and draw his weapon, Tiberius is on him again, fists coming in like hammer blows and seeking out all the soft spots of his suit with frankly impressive accuracy. Jason’s pulse is pounding in his ears, he’s always gotten a kick out of fighting guys that are bigger than him - though, admittedly, most guys he went up against as Robin met that qualification. Fighting Tiberius is a little nostalgic, in that sense.
How did he used to do it? Bruce had taught him all the fastest ways to incapacitate someone, and Jason’s lived enough by now that he can admit that more often than not, Bruce’s way works just fine. Maybe with a few embellishments, depending on the perp. He’d need better footing, but he could do that here. He could snap Tiberius’s collarbone with the flat of his hand, knee him in the balls, and finish him off with a punch to the throat. But before Bruce, before he’d had his street fighting skills polished and streamlined, a younger, scrappier Jason would’ve had a different strategy. Back then he’d had to be patient, had to last out his enemies and watch for the moment they overextended themselves, the moment they let their defenses slip because they were sure they had him. A school bully, taking his attention off Jason long enough to call to his friends. His mother’s heroin dealer, pausing at the top of the long brick staircase to tell Jason not to bother checking on her. Batman, parking the Batmobile in an alley and just leaving it there.
Nostalgia wins, and Jason waits. He takes the punches and waits until Tiberius gets cocky, having landed a few well-placed blows to his ribs under the thickest parts of his armor. He rears up over Jason, sneering, hand going to Jason’s throat, arm fully extended and vulnerable - and Jason moves. He rocks up into a crouch, catches Tiberius’s wrist in his hand and wrenches, shattering the bones in it easily and dislocating his shoulder in the process. Within a couple of seconds, they’re back on their feet, but Tiberius is unsteady, his breathing thick and labored, and Jason takes the opportunity to kick him square in the chest, sending him crashing down into the walk-out landing and through the building’s flimsy door.
Then he follows Tiberius into the basement, and before he can dodge, a bullet catches him right in the thigh. Shit. He’d assumed the gun had been lost back at the car, but he hadn’t actually checked - an embarrassingly rookie mistake, Jesus. His armor stops it, but it still hurts like a motherfucker. “Real cute,” he snarls, stomping on his opponent’s broken wrist and picking up the gun. He debates shooting him in a few non-lethal places, but Dick’s face suddenly pops into his head, and then Dani’s, and the worst of his anger ebbs away. He empties the clip instead, pocketing the gun. “Now that that’s out of the way, you and me, we’ve got a few things to discuss.”
“Fuck you,” Tiberius seethes, curled up and clutching his wrist in pain. There’s blood all over his face, dripping onto the floor.
“Better men than you have tried, Tiberius.” Jason rubs his hands together. “Here, I’ll make it easier for you. I know you’re working for Romina Falcone. I know she’s back in Gotham, and I know she ordered the hits on your old boss, and most of your old coworkers. I know you sprung her cousin Susie out of jail earlier today, and I know she’s got you running the drug trade down here. So don’t bother telling me any of that shit. I just want to know two things: what her endgame is, and where I can find her.” He steps on Tiberius’s knee, puts just enough pressure to make him cry out. “Talk. Now.”
“Get the fuck off me,” Tiberius gasps, kicking out uselessly with his other leg. “I’ll tell you what you want to know, just let me up.”
Jason stands back, ready to kneecap the guy permanently if he goes on the offensive again.
Tiberius sits up, panting. “Shit. Fuck, I can’t believe I didn’t see this coming.”
“Hood, I lost your GPS signal,” Roy says in his ear. “Fortunately, the trail of destruction was pretty easy to follow. I’m on the warehouse roof outside, across the street.”
“She set me up,” Tiberius goes on. “She fucking set me up, that bitch.” He looks up at Jason, shaking his head. “Yeah, Romina asked me to bail Susie out of jail today. Probably so one of you fuckers would come after me. She’ll be pissed as hell that she didn’t get Batman.”
Jason grinds his teeth. “Arsenal, we’re gonna have incoming soon,” he barks into his comm.
“Thank God, I’d hate to get bored up here,” Roy replies easily.
“Whatever backup you have, it’s not gonna be enough,” Tiberius says. “Romina doesn’t take chances. I can’t tell you where she is, couldn’t even tell you the neighborhood. I’ve had two meetings with her at her office, they had me drugged and blindfolded coming and going. Drove for a long-ass time, too, but that doesn’t mean anything.”
“Fine,” Jason snaps. “So you’ve had meetings with her. Tell me what she’s after.”
“What she’s after? She’s after everything,” Tiberius says bluntly. “The whole goddamn city. Thinks it’s hers by right, because of who her grandpa was. She’s fucking nuts, even for Gotham.”
Everything. Jason turns it over in his head. She’s not just seizing control of the East End, not just the canal, but everything. They’ve got an overachieving mob boss on their hands. Out-fucking-standing.
“I’ve got twenty guys coming in hot, Hood.” Roy sounds tense. “More trucks pulling in. I can take down most of them, but I think they’re just the first wave. We don’t have enough ammo for this.”
“She hates you guys,” Tiberius laughs bitterly. “If you get away, she’s gonna lose her shit. Sucks I won’t be around to see it.”
“A real shame,” Jason agrees, distracted. He can hear the sound of fighting outside. Time to bail. “Who else is - “
“Hood, we have to go, now.”
Jason pulls the gun from his shoulder holster. “If you survive, I’ll be seeing you soon,” he promises, voice low and deadly. The look on Tiberius’s face tells him just how likely he thinks that is, and Jason can’t help but agree. The blindfolds, the errands, the lack of family connection all add up to one thing: disposable. Tiberius is no made man, he’s just a hired hand, and it’s clear Romina has decided to terminate his employment. Jason remembers Tim’s story about Tiberius passing around photos of murdered kids to the grunts at Intergang, and he feels no sudden impulse to drag the guy to safety.
Outside, he and Roy shoot their way through the dozen or so remaining mobsters, Jason aiming as non-lethally as possible. Roy’s taser arrows cut the last few down, and then they hit the street running, down the block, through a boarded up ice cream shop, down an alley, and up to the rooftops. Jason hears a few gunshots below them when they make the jump over a particularly wide gap, but he keeps them running north, away from the harbor and towards the river, hoping to lose their pursuers on unfamiliar turf. It works. Romina may have her sights set on all of Gotham, but most of her henchmen have seldom ventured more than a few blocks out of the territory they grew up in.
After about half a mile, they stop to catch their breath, and Jason sits down to massage his thigh where the bullet had struck earlier.
“How’d you get over here, anyways?” Jason asks. They’d left their bikes in Jason’s storage unit on the west side of Crime Alley, Roy’s borrowed from Dick for the evening. If Roy left the bike next to a shootout, Dick’s going to be mad as hell.
“Helicopter arrow,” Roy deadpans. Jason looks for something to throw at him. “No, I just took an Uber. Grand theft auto’s not really my thing, these days.”
Jason stares at him. “Since when?”
Roy shrugs. “Since Lian started asking questions about it, I guess. It’s just like...whenever she hears about a crime, like finding out why we lock the car doors when we leave it, she asks me all these details about it. Sometimes she asks if I’ve ever done it, and I can’t lie to her, you know? I want to be able to tell her what she wants to hear, which is ‘no, Daddy hasn’t stolen any cars lately’.” He points at Jason accusingly. “Whatever. Don’t judge me. You’re just lucky yours can’t talk yet.”
“I didn’t even say anything,” Jason protests. He objects strongly to Roy referring to Dani as his, too, but that’s probably exactly why Roy did it, so there’s no point bringing it up. “I’ve got a safe house not too far from here, next to a chop shop. Does it count as stealing to Lian if the car is already stolen?”
Roy laughs. “Not sure she can parse the nuance there. How about you do the stealing, and that’s the technicality I can skate on.”
“Fine.” Jason gets to his feet, wincing slightly as his thigh burns.
“You all good?”
“Yeah, just got a lucky shot in. My fault for not checking to see if he still had the damn gun.”
“Hey, at least in the Manor you’ve got all the whole Bat Hospital at your disposal,” Roy grins. “Among other perks, of course.”
Jason is very glad Roy can’t see him blush under the helmet. He was just thinking about how he wants to get back and see Dani - how he’ll need to take his armor off to check out the damage to his leg - how taking his armor off always wakes her up, so he’ll have to do it in Dick’s room - how the offer is on the table for him to sleep in Dick’s bed -
Business appears to be booming at the chop shop, and Jason decides on stealing a flashy little Lexus coupe that makes Roy whistle in appreciation. They drive back through the Bowery, stopping once so Jason can beat the crap out of a bouncer-turned-wannabe-pimp trying to sell girls outside of a gentlemen’s club. Then they get back to the bikes, and he checks in with Oracle to see if there’s any other action they need to investigate before they call it a night.
“I think you boys have stirred up enough trouble tonight,” she tells him firmly. “There’s been surprisingly little action in your neck of the woods, actually. Bludhaven is the hot zone tonight, I sent Black Bat and Spoiler over there earlier to help Robin out.”
“Fingerstripes will be sorry he missed it,” Jason says. “Russians again?”
“Arsonists, this time. At least five of them.”
“Shit. Sounds more like a Gotham thing than ‘Haven.”
“It does,” she agrees. “It feels choreographed, somehow. I’m going to keep looking into it, along with the Viti family. Oracle out.”
Roy raises his eyebrows. “Arsonists, huh?”
Jason snorts in surprise. “You hacked my comm line?”
“Let’s put it this way: Babs let me hack your comm line.”
True enough. “Sounds like they’ve got everything in hand, at least,” Jason says. “Don’t really feel like dragging ass all the way to Jersey’s armpit. You sleeping at the Manor tonight?”
Roy scratches the back of his head. “Thought about it, but I think I’m gonna text Donna and quietly crash girl’s night. Whenever I get shot at, or almost blown up or whatever, I just kind of need to see Lian. Tell Dick I’ll bring the bike back tomorrow.”
Jason nods. “I’ll catch you later, then.” In truth, he knows exactly how Roy feels. He’s dying to get back to Dani as quickly as possible, to see her and touch her and make sure she’s okay. It doesn’t make sense - he’s the one who got shot at, she’s been in arguably the most secure location in the whole tri-state area. But somehow, in spite of his bruised ribs and what’s sure to be a wicked hematoma on his thigh, all he can think about is keeping her safe. He’d walk through fire to make sure of it, he knows without a doubt. Fortunately, all he has to do tonight is make the trek back over the Robert Kane bridge.
Roy gives his shoulder a friendly squeeze, and then takes off in the direction of the old Titans bunker in Robbinsville. Jason parks the Lexus in his storage unit, arms the security system, and then kicks his bike into gear, making a beeline for the highway and the bridge, which will take him back to the Manor, and back to Dani.

Chapter One: First Name Basis 
Nick Amaro x Fem!Reader
Series Summary: Nick wasn't looking for love and you weren't looking for a job. A phone call and one day together seemed to change both of your lives. for better or for worse ? that’s up to you.
Warnings: Reader is 19, shameless flirting but they’re both too shy, a millisecond of angst at the end.

Things had been a struggle to say the least. Maria upping and taking the job in DC threw Nick for a loop. Especially when she left Zara with him and it wasn’t like he didn’t love his daughter because he did. It was the fact that they had to find the rhythm of things without Maria which was 10x harder now that they had both just adjusted to her being there.
When his nosy neighbour decided to chat him up one afternoon as their kids played with Zara in the front yard, Nick wanted nothing more than to fling himself off a building. 
“I had this wonderful girl named y/n babysit the kids when Jack and I wanted a date night,” the woman smiles at Nick. “She’s in college now so she’s a bit busy but I’m sure she can make it work if you want her number. A call won’t hurt.” 
Nick took the number from his neighbour, calling Zara in for dinner in hopes to get away from his neighbour. He thanked her for the number and promised they’d come over for dinner soon- even though he knew they would not be going over there anytime soon. 
Nick sat beside Zara on the couch, the little girl cuddled into his side. He glances down at his daughter, her eyes heavy with sleep but she keeps forcing herself to stay awake as she wants to finish the movie. 
“Babygirl, c’mon. Time for bed.” Nick lifts her up off the couch, she groans. 
“Dad!” She scolded him, groaning all the way to her bedroom. Nick sets her down on the bed. “Do you want me to stay or are you okay?” He asks, making his way around her room to make sure the windows are locked. 
She shakes her head, pulling the blanket up over her as she scoots down and makes herself comfortable. Nick smiles at the little girl, tucking in the edges of her blanket before pressing a kiss to her forehead. 
“I’ll be just down the hall if you need me, baby.” Zara sighs, looking up at her father. “I know dad, I'm not a baby.” She tells him matter of factly tone, making Nick shake his head in amusement. 
He raises his hands in surrender. “Whatever you say. Goodnight kiddo.” “Night dad,” she smiles at him, watching as he shuts the door.

Nick finds himself in bed, it’s half past one in the morning and he can’t seem to settle down. Begrudgingly, he drags himself from bed and makes his way to the kitchen. 
He tumbles through the cabinets - tea, come on, I know I bought tea at some point. 
The tea seemed to be hidden behind a few different types of coffee stored in various shaped bottles. He made a mental note to clean the cabinets the next time he had some free time. Nick went through the motions- put the tea bag in the mug, fill the kettle with water, set it to boil and now he waits. 
His phone sat disregarded on the counter, the conversation with his neighbour replaying in his head. “A call won’t hurt.” 
Nick needed the help desperately. Even if he couldn't admit that to others, he could admit that to himself. 
Considering the time, Nick thought a text would be more considerate. You could always return his text in the morning. He hesitated, only for a second. What kind of impression does it make that I’m awake at 1:56 in the morning and I’m texting a college student ? 
Pushing the thought aside, Nick drafts the text and reads it over 8 times before he actually sends it. 
From Nick: Hi y/n, I’m Nick. I got your number from my neighbour, Jessica. She mentioned that you babysat for her a few times and she couldn’t stop gushing about how great you were. I’m looking for a babysitter as well and I was wondering if you were available. Give me a text back or a call whenever it’s convenient for you. Thanks. 
He barely set the phone down to pour the boiled water into the mug when his phone chimed. 
To Nick: Hi Nick! I’m available! Could I give you a call now or would in the morning be better ? 
From Nick: Now is fine. 
Nick’s phone buzzed in his hand, he clicked the little green button before lifting the phone to his ear. “Hi!” you sounded half asleep yet somehow happy at the same time.  
“Hi y/n. Sorry, I hope I didn’t wake you.” he hums. 
“Totally fine, I was up doing class work anyways. Jessica told you about me huh? That woman doesn’t stop talking- not in a bad way of course. Oh man, I'm rambling aren’t I?” you sigh, Nick chuckles. 
He’s already taken a liking to you. 
“It's true. She never stops talking.” you both laugh before Nick speaks up. 
“I've got a daughter. Her name is Zara, she's 9. I drop her off to school in the mornings and I need someone to look in on her while I'm at work in the afternoons.” Nick tells you, you nod but then realize he can’t see it. 
“Would it be okay for you to come over and meet Zara ? I wouldn't want her to be uncomfortable and we can just gauge if it’s a good fit or not. We can discuss details if that’s okay with you?” Nick finishes.
“A straight to the point kind of man, I like you already, Nick.” 
Nick would be lying if he said his cheeks were a bit redder then they were moments ago. 
“When are you free?” he asks. “Tomorrow, well technically today. Up to you know, I don't know if you're busy or anything.” 
“Tomorrow is fine, I'll text you the address.” 
“Oh wait! I gotta ask since I’m coming to your place, you're not a serial killer or anything right ?” Nick laughed at your question, his hand pressed over his mouth so he could muffle the sound, hoping not to wake Zara. 
“No, actually I'm a cop.” 
“Haha, very funny- wait, are you actually a cop?” 
“Yeah, but I'll see you tomorrow ?” he asks, you nod once again and realize the same thing. 
“Yeah, goodnight Nick.” 
“Goodnight y/n.” 
That twang in his stomach made him want to take a cold shower. If the sound of your voice made him feel this way, what is he going to do when he meets you? 
Little did he know, you were giddily skipping around your room. You had the same feeling about Nick. Something about him and the way he spoke had you in a sort of trace, you were itching to meet him. 
---- 
The doorbell rang, you waited on the front steps as you heard someone shout something resembling the word coming. The door opens and a man is standing in front of you- tall, handsome, tan skin, brown hair to match his eyes, dressed in jeans and a blue polo. 
“Hi, you must be y/n?” he stuck his hand out, yours reaching for his. “I am, it's nice to meet you.” you smile when your hand reaches his.
“Please, come in.” Nick steps aside and lets you in. When you walk in, you see a little girl sitting on the couch. Her long brown hair matched her eyes, it’s clear who she looked like. 
“Zara, this is y/n. y/n, this is my daughter, Zara.” Nick introduced the two of you, Zara looking between you and her father, her face scrunched into a confused look. 
“Are you dad’s girlfriend ?” her question catches both you and Nick off guard. 
“I- uh, no.” you shook your head, biting back a laugh. Nick’s face was red, his eyes glued to the girl on the couch, his brows furrowed. 
You watched the exchange between the pair, she looked so much like him. 
“She might be looking after you when you get home from school, I just wanted you two to meet.” he tells her, before ushering you towards the kitchen. 
Nick steps by you, reaching for a glass in the cupboard. “Can I get you something to drink?” 
“I’m alright, thanks.” you smile, admiring the man as he leans in to grab something from the fridge. 
There was no way he didn’t know he was attractive, he exuded this masculine energy that you couldn't seem to find in anyone else. The way his blue polo clung to him was enough to make a girl swoon. 
Nick hands you a glass of lemonade even after you mentioned that you were okay. “What’s your class schedule like ?”
“Not too busy, most of my classes are in the mornings so I’m free anytime after 2:30 and I have one evening class on Thursdays but the professor is pretty lenient. He knows some people aren’t able to make night classes in person so he live streams them.” 
“Perfect. Zara is off school at 3:10 and she walks home with Jessica and her kids. Would you be able to pick her up from Jessica’s and hang out with her here until I'm home ?” 
“What time are you off?” “It depends on what we’re working.” 
“I take it you’re not a patrol cop then?” you take a sip of the lemonade. 
“Detective Nick Amaro, Special Victims Unit” he takes a little bow making you giggle. 
“So tell me, do I call you detective Amaro then?” 
“Nick is fine, but just for you.” he teases and your cheeks flush red.
Changing the topic back to Zara, you look at him. “I can stay here with her as long as you’re okay with me doing my work and whatnot.” 
Nick smiles, his hand resting on your bicep. “Of course, if you're gonna be here, I want you to be comfortable.” 
You’re blushing, you can feel it. 
Nick glances at Zara, moving his hand from your arm. “Baby, come here.” Nick calls for Zara, your heart flutters when you hear the word slip past his lips- Oh his lips were perfect and pink and kissable. How you wanted to kiss- 
“Y/n, do you like baking?” The little girl was in front of you, looking up at you. 
“I love baking, I take it that you do too?” You smile at her, she nods with a smile on her face. “I have the best brownie recipe!” she gushes, grabbing your hand and pulling you off with her. 
You follow her, glancing back at Nick who was smiling at you two. He couldn't remember the last time he saw Zara excited like that. He knew how much she liked to try new things. She used to bake with her grandmother but when Maria came back, he figured she would pick up that but she didn’t and that put a halt in her hobby. 
Nick finds the two of you in Zara’s bedroom. Zara had a book in her lap, pointing to different pictures. “This one seems cool, look at the frosting!” she points out, showing you the blue swirled frosting on top of the cake. 
You glance at Nick who was leaning on the door frame, “well, when’s your dad’s birthday? We can make it for him.” 
“Yeah!!” Zara leaned to look at her father, “can y/n stay for dinner ?” 
“Oh- you gotta ask her sweetheart. It's okay with me.” Nick tells her before leaving the two of you in her room. He wanted the two of you to get to know each other without him peering in all the time. 
---
Somehow you ended up spending the entire afternoon with Nick and Zara. It was a little past 7 and the sun was starting to set. Nick sat next to you in the front steps of his house, watching as Zara rolled up and down the driveway on her scooter. 
The breeze blew, the sudden coldness causing you to shiver and wrap your arms around yourself. Nick noticed the shiver, his arm wrapping around you instinctively as his hand rubbed against your arm in an attempt to warm you up. 
Anyone passing by could easily mistake you two for a couple watching your kid but you weren't. 
In fact, you were just the babysitter and he was your boss but that didn't seem to stop you as you shifted towards Nick. “Still cold ?” He glances at you, you shrug. 
“Watch her, I'll be back.” He gets up, the loss of warmth makes you shiver again. 
It was only a few minutes later that Nick returned in a black V-neck sweater and two other hoodies in his hand. “Zara! If you're gonna stay out here, you need a sweater!” he calls for her and she comes running over. 
She pouts, “it’s not cold dad.” Nick almost gives into her, she has that man wrapped around her finger and she knows it. 
He steps down to her level, kneeling in front of her and helps her pull on her purple sweater. 
Nick kisses her forehead, “15 minutes then we’re going back inside.” he shouts to her as she runs off back to her scooter. He returns to his spot beside you, handing the navy blue hoodie to you. 
Passing the hoodie back to him, “Nick, I’m fine.” You just met the man, you can’t take his hoodie. 
“Y/n, don’t be difficult.” He drops the hoodie in your lap. “Don’t pull a Zara on me.” He looks over at you, a semi stern look in his face but there was a glint of mischief in those brown eyes of his. 
Sighing, you give in and pull the hoodie over your head. It was slightly big on you, but comfortably so. It was warm and smelt like Nick, manly but not in an overpowering way. 
His eyes were on you and you could feel it. “How do I look?” shifting on the steps, you look up at him. 
“Like you’re ready to join the academy.” he gives you a small smile, your brows furrow before looking down. 
The letters NYPD written across the front on big bold yellow letters. “Haha, very funny detective.” You roll your eyes playfully. Nick gives you a nudge with his shoulder, smiling before looking over at Zara. 
“She really likes you, y’know?” “I like her too, she's a good kid.” 
There’s a comfortable silence between the two of you but curiosity killed the cat and you had to ask. 
“If I can ask, where’s her mom?” Elbows propped on your thighs and your chin resting in your palm when you look over at the man next to you. His expression hardens before he lets out a sigh. 
“Took a job in DC.”
“So.. you two aren’t together ?”
Nick turns to you, eyes flickering over your face. “Are you always this nosy?” 
Your mouth opens but nothing comes out. “I- sorry I didn’t mean to pry.” mumbling, you turn your attention back to Zara. 
Nick signs, running a hand through his hair. “No, I’m sorry. It’s fine for you to ask, I just- I don’t really talk about her. I would assume our marriage is over but neither of us said that. I think there’s someone else but again, nothing’s been said.” 
Nick watches you watching him, his head tilting to the side and you mirror his actions. The two of you are smiling at each other like a bunch of teenagers in love. 
It's disgustingly domestic. 
“Sorry to unpack that on you, I barely know you.” He chuckles, resting a hand on yours. You shake your head, your free hand resting on his. “It’s fine.” you smile. 
There’s a sadness in his voice but nothing is evident on his face. How could someone who's clearly hurting be so.. normal ? 
That was the moment you vowed to never hurt him. 
You couldn't.

Do you shipp bats and superman? Or bruce and selina or you don't ship bruce with anyone?
Tbh, I don’t have strong preferences on the matter of Bruce’s ships. Its not a matter of disliking them usually, so much as just not being super hardcore one way or another lol.
I would say probably my go-to is Bruce/Selina, just because I love Selina and there’s that opposites attract element to them that can be hard to make work, but when it works, ugh, it just WORKS, y’know?
I do ship Bruce and Clark for similar reasons, though this is actually more of a recent thing, honestly.....back before I first left DC fandom the first time around, probably around 2012-2013, I definitely would not have called myself a Superbat shipper at all, but that didn’t really have anything to do with not seeing their potential or not liking the characters together. It was more just a byproduct of like.....back then, I didn’t really like how Bruce and Clark tended to be written together? 
Like, a lot of that was probably due to the tendency there sometimes is with slash ships to not really write just two male characters from some show or comic and put them in a relationship together, but rather to just kinda take two characters and write them in such a way that they feel like this kinda generic cookie cutter relationship that has more to do with going down a checklist of characteristics/specific moments/themes/etc than it does with who those characters are and what they’re like normally.
But for whatever reason, since I started getting back into DC fandom stuff last year, I’ve found a lot more Superbat fics that are a lot more to my liking, or that just FEEL more like Bruce and Clark in a relationship rather than coming across as two characters who have little in common with them and just happen to share the same names. I honestly have no idea what’s changed in the time since I was last in fandom til rejoining it, at least in regards to this specific ship and how its written, or just as equally likely, something changed about my perspective between then and now that made me read it differently or be more open to it than I was in the past. *Shrugs* Who knows. So again, its like Bruce/Selina, I’m not opposed to it at all, have enjoyed several, but I just don’t tend to ship Bruce the same way or to the degree I have ships I’m more invested in, for most of his kids.
My one big caveat with Bruce and Clark is that like, its GOT to be respectful of Lois, she still should have a presence in Clark’s life and not have been just...erased or overlooked or killed off or just sacrificed on the altar of Superbat to make room for them to get together, y’know? Like I don’t have a particular preference here, like, they could have previously discovered they just prefer being platonic soulmates and just have a super strong friendship that’s not threatened or replaced or lessened by what Clark comes to have with Bruce later, they could have previously been married and are amicably divorced now for whatever reason and still successfully co-parent Jon now, who splits his time between living with his Dad and Bruce and step-siblings at Wayne Manor, and then the rest of his time with his mom and her new girlfriend or wife Diana, perhaps...whatever. Not picky on the particulars, I just need Lois to still be important to Clark rather than treated as though an obstacle in the way of Superbat’s true love.
As far as other ships go......I never got on board with Bruce/Diana even though they do at times have great chemistry.....I’ve just never seen that really successfully resulting in an actual relationship....unless Clark is involved as kinda a...not buffer, exactly, so much as a third complemetary piece needed to complete the picture. Same thing with Clark and Diana too, though, their brief New 52 relationship not working for me for the same reasons. The full Trinity together in every sense of the word? I can dig it. Just two of them though....Clark and Bruce is the only pairing out of the three of them that actually fits on its own, IMO, because something about Clark and Diana has always just felt a little too....forced, or artificial to me for some reason, like.....people always try too hard to emphasize how good a pairing they make on paper, that it just never FEELS natural or organic in execution, and I’ve never really felt any interest in trying to execute a version of it myself to have any idea how my own attempt would fare. *Shrugs* 
And then Bruce and Diana on their own, like.....I think Diana respects the hell out of Bruce and will always have a soft spot for him, but her bullshit tolerance does come with a ceiling, and I think for Diana, Bruce is one of those people where she does better with him in small doses, lol. Too much exposure to Bruce, too constantly, and for too longterm.....I think she would end up being like “this relationship is starting to feel too much like a Greek tragedy, and not even one of the good ones, I gotta go, bye” lololol okay so it wouldn’t really be like that. I just mean.....Bruce thrives off of structure and rigid discipline in a way that Diana would find stifling, I believe? 
Don’t get me wrong, Diana is incredibly disciplined herself and capable of holding herself firm and steady in anything with a kind of discipline few others could ever dream of, but its not her PREFERENCE, I don’t think. She’d rather default to a freer approach to and through life, whereas Bruce can do that at times to accommodate loved ones needing or wanting that from him too, but at the end of the day, I think he’s always going to rather scheduling in some time set aside for the both of them, as something to look forward to....rather than just letting it come when it comes and then when it does, obsessing over whether he’s neglecting something else as a result. 
So again...Bruce and Clark I think work, but Bruce and Diana or Clark and Diana - require all three working in harmony to be what all three of them actually need and want from that triad.
And then Bruce and Talia I’ve talked about a couple times before in depth, and I have hugely complicated thoughts on them due to the sheer bullshit writers have subjected Talia to over the years. I try to ignore Morrison’s take on Damian’s conception as much as possible, like, I never go with that angle or that particular taint on their relationship unless for whatever reason its absolutely relevant to the plot - and I’ve never come up with a plot where it is, nor do I think I’m likely to. And this is for a couple of reasons - the first is that while I’m always saying that any writer could make a case for any character doing anything, conceivably, Damian’s conception as written by Morrison just...destroys so much of the amazingly complex and multi-faceted character Talia often was before he wrote that, and recasts every aspect of her and Bruce’s previous love story as just...a painful, not funny joke. Its not remotely something I ever want to read into those two, even if I’ve never shipped them as endgame myself. 
But at the same time, because it did so unequivocally happen in canon, I can never really blame others for accepting it as the reality of their relationship by this point, for whatever reason.....I mean, there’s the simple fact that something like that is so hugely personal to read about and see yourself in as a survivor, for instance, for any survivors who read Morrison’s story and afterward had trouble separating that view of Talia from previous stories of her....like to me, no matter how much I think Morrison is bullshit for writing that story, especially since its hardly like he had any interest in writing or acknowledging Bruce as a survivor in its aftermath.....I fully believe Morrison was like “how can I make Bruce a biological father who owes nothing to the mother and has no obligation to share the child with her or fight over custody or anything like that.” 
Which is a shitty reason to do that particular kind of story. And why I don’t blame anyone for disregarding it, as I try to whenever possible, but neither do I blame anyone for finding their relationship kinda ruined in the wake of it, just because sometimes its physically/emotionally just hard to see PAST that kind of thing, even when you know the reasons for it existing at all are threadbare in the first place. 
(Its like how I do write and focus on Bruce’s abusive behavior with some of his kids in the past, not because I necessarily LIKE to, so much as it just being such a personal topic to me that from the second it was written into his character and dynamics, whether written WELL or PLAUSIBLY or not, it just became impossible for me to pretend it just never happened or I never read any of those stories, so I have to find some way to tackle it in my stories and takes. But because I do think that the reasons for writing Bruce act that way in the first place were always poorly thought through, and it is a disservice to a lot of the reasons others love the character, I don’t blame them for disliking it and disregarding it themselves, so long as they don’t shit on me or my reasons for not doing the same).
So yeah, I don’t tend to write that particular element into Bruce and Talia’s story ever, for all those above reasons and also one other specific one: it doesn’t just make Talia a rapist and Bruce a survivor, it makes Damian the child of rape. And he’s just had so much shit to deal with in his life with everything else alone, I never am comfortable heaping that onto him as well, because sooner or later it WOULD eventually become something he had to deal with, and no easy thing to deal with, so I’m just like....what if he didn’t have that particular issue to deal with ever.
NOW, all that said....Bruce and Talia still even without that have never really been an endgame ship for me, but rather something that’s kinda always been doomed to be a tragic romance, like they’re each other’s one that forever got away. And that’s because for me, unlike Bruce and Selina being opposite in just the right ways, Bruce and Talia are alike in the wrong ways. Its part of WHY they have the connection they do, and such a deep one....they GET each other, in ways I don’t think anyone else has ever truly understood them. They might not subscribe to the same beliefs, even have the same morals, they might not be willing to use the same methods, their ultimate goals aren’t necessarily the same....but their PASSION for their goals, their beliefs, their commitment to doing whatever each believes they have to do in order to see their goals fulfilled, to see that they never stray from what they believe is their duty, their reasons for existing....THAT is something I think they’ve both always understood about each other, that they have in common. Both believe too strongly in what THEY believe and value as most important, to be truly willing to give that up and follow the other to their goal or along their path instead.....and they get that, so they never truly ask that of each other, or at least aren’t surprised nor hold it against the other when they turn them down. I think they do love each other, and on some level always will.....and it might not even be that they don’t WANT to give everything else up to be with them.....its just, I don’t think either truly knows how to do that and still be them, like they know that even were they to make that choice, it would cost them too much of what makes them THEM, to ever truly do it.
And aside from that, even in an AU setting where Talia didn’t raise Damian in the League, where he wasn’t forced to grow up fighting the way he did, and say she spirited him away and into hiding at birth to hide him from Ra’s, but still never sought Bruce out til Damian was ten or so, even if only because Bruce is too easy for Ra’s to find or keep an eye on....basically, I just mean even in an AU where Talia was a great mom to Damian from Day One til the day Bruce met Damian, and she only kept him from Bruce for ten years or whatever for Damian’s safety....I think that would still destroy any chance of Bruce and Talia ever being together after that, just because in that kind of scenario, Bruce might absolutely understand why she did what she did, even agree with it....and still not be able to get PAST it, not to the degree of....trusting her with his heart again, even if they were perfectly able to coexist well for Damian’s sake. Bruce missed out on the first parts of all his other childrens’ lives because they were someone else’s first. The fact that Damian is the one and only kid of his that theoretically, there was nothing keeping Bruce from being a part of that from day one....like this is the one and only way I will ever accept Bruce having a distinct view of Damian as being different from his other kids in his eyes....its not about him being Bruce’s biological son, its about him being Bruce’s son that he never had to be second to come into his life, that there was nothing stopping him from being there from the start....the fact that Talia, for any reason, did keep him from that, even were it with the best intentions, IMO....that would be something that might not even be Bruce’s to ‘forgive’ per se, like that’s not even the right word to describe certain scenarios that might result in that.....but it would still just irrevocably change something between them I don’t think they could ever get back.
So except for AUs where Talia brought Damian to Bruce right after he was born and stayed with him to raise Damian together, I don’t see them ever working out longterm.....and I don’t really see Talia ever giving up her own beliefs as to how to live her life, shape the world, wield her influence....just to live in Bristol with Bruce and raise Damian with him, even as there is nothing really in that case keeping Bruce from still at the same time continuing to be Batman and do all of that the way HE prioritizes. But again, by the same token.....I also don’t see the inverse ever happening, where Talia finds a way to go where she needs to and do what she believes needs doing, with Damian in tow....and Bruce willing to give up being Batman to just come along for the ride and to help raise Damian. So yeah, ultimately, for me those two are the ultimate tragic romance of Bruce’s core ships, where love has nothing to do with whether or not they work out....just rather who and what they are getting in the way of what they are too each other.

Essay Wars - it’s a doozy
Last night my friend got in a texting debate about the story structure and character developments of Star Wars (a majority of it Kylo Ren). Well, what started off as my vigorous texting writing turned into full-blown essay responses.

Alright, let’s get into how this actually happened.
First, I was so excited about The Rise of Skywalker Final Trailer and I began to sing praises for Kylo Ren/Bendemption. My friend did not like that...so I whipped out the big guns. 
I began to send scattered texts about certain things, mostly pertaining to:
Kylo Ren was turned to the dark side before he was even born via Bloodline, where Leia describes a dark presence over her womb.
Someone must be impersonating Darth Vader when Kylo goes to the Vader mask for advice.
Leia and Han were emotionally neglectful/did not know how to raise their son in the right way, mixed with brainwashing lead to Kylo Ren.
The Jedi are not good for the galaxy (yes, yes I know, but see my explanation down below...if you last that long)
Kylo wants to let the past die and start fresh with a new ‘order’, leave behind the Sith, Jedi, First order etc.
I also rambled on about a few other things in separate texts, but that is the gist of it.
So, in response to my scattered texts I received this from my friend Sammy, and oh boy was I ready:
So, let’s start with the story of Ben. The dark side since before he was even born thing is interesting and the fact that he’s been influenced his entire life by it is something they should have made much more clear in the films. That’s actually one of the problems I have with this new expanded universe- it just seems like damage control for the movies. The Previous EU EXPANDED everything, giving backstory to the characters we know and understand, in addition to secondary characters. Hell, they even gave us new characters as well but they never negated or changed the meaning of the films which is the bread and butter of the franchise, so if this super important info is coming from the book I think that’s just silly. You really shouldn’t have to read the novel iteration to understand what the movie did a bad job of interpreting. But I digress, that is some crucial info…
The Vader mask scene and the theory that it’s someone else like Snoke who has been pretending to be Vader is interesting, and I buy that, but like…Kylo didn’t know Vader was redeemed? Did Luke, Leia, Han, Chewy, Lando, Akbar, Wedge, or like literally anybody else form the Rebellion forget to tell him that? Big yikes.
IMO, feeling “misunderstood and neglected by his parents” isn’t a valid excuse for him to kill his own dad and being ok with his mom getting bombed to hell. Idk, you can ask why it’s ok for us to forgive Vader through his redemption arc but I think comparing his experiences to Kylo’s is like comparing apples to oranges. Vader was a BAD guy, but he ended up doing the ultimate GOOD thing in the end, and then the prequels fleshed out how he became bad intangible way, which to be fair, Kylo doesn’t have. But still, this is why most fans don’t take him seriously.
About the Jedi not being good- I challenge your credentials. “For a thousand generations the Jedi knights have been the guardians of peace and justice for the Old Republic”, then they were hunted down and everything turned to shit. And both in this canon and the previous one, it’s wildly considered that the few thousand years preceded the events of the movies things were super peaceful all things considered when the Jedi were in charge…and the Sith traditionally only operates in agents of 2. So how come everything was so peaceful for a thousand generations when there were a million Jedi and 2 Sith…ying yang in this case is bollocks.
And if Kylo really wants to “Start fresh”, why’d he start by becoming Supreme Leader of like the Star Wars version of ISIS? This is something we’ll need to find out in this next movie. I agree, his motive is to dismantle the Jedi and Sith way and create something else entirely, but the second Rey says “nah” he goes back to how he was. It’s not looking good.
The George Lucas rhyme thing lets not forget he’s talking about Episode 1 which was arguably one of the worst Star Wars movies made and he ended it with “hopefully it’ll work” and then grimaces…IDK bud lmao. And I doubt back in 1977 he knew there was going to be an episode 9 because he didn’t even know what he just made was Episode 4! It definitely was never a 9 episode arc from the get-go. Now, I know for certain after the prequels he had another trilogy in mind, and when he sold the rights to Disney he did hand them his drafts and notes, but even Bob Iger, CEO of Disney, admitted in his new book, they didn’t follow those drafts AT ALL. LIKE NOTHING. And he said that George felt betrayed. This idea of a new trilogy is something that was created in 2012, but I suspect they have been making this up as they went. After this last movie, Disney scrambled to get JJ Abrams back and figure out how they were going to get everything back on track. Daisy Ridley herself said JJ wrote a story for each of the 3 new movies, but Rian ended up created his own completely. I think that alone shows that production for these movies has been inconsistent, I don’t buy this was all part of some 9 series plan with a definitive beginning, middle, and end from the get-go.
Not sure what Rey’s lineage is, we’ll find out for sure in this next movie. I read one theory that Palpatine created her sorta through the force like many people think he did with Anakin.
So that was what I was up against.
Let’s take a brief moment to appreciate this:

Okay now that that is done...great. 
My turn! 
Now, I wrote my response (copied below) at top speed in about an hour, so maybe some of the things I say start sounding rushed or not as fleshed out as they should be. But I cracked my knuckles and gave it a go:
I am the first one to advocate for a film to have the ability to ‘stand-alone’ in any particular universe, whether it be Marvel, DC, Hunger Games, and Star Wars. By introducing a backstory for Leia’s pregnancy and hers and Han’s marriage in ‘Bloodline’, LucasFilm is doing just that: giving a backstory. In both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, there is proof that Snoke is the one pulling the strings when it comes to young solo. In the first film, Leia is quoted saying to Han, “There’s still light in him I know it! No. It was Snoke. He seduced our son to the dark side”, and in the second film Luke is quoted as saying, “Snoke had already turned his heart”. It is made apparent that ‘Kylo Ren’ is the production of Snoke, and Ren suffers abuse both mental and physical from his master. Though this changes when Kylo finally becomes free of the shackles Snoke once had on him when Ren slices him in half. The look of shock and release on Ren’s face when he realizes what he’s done says it all. Who are we to judge someone who is freshly out of the control of their captor? By just watching the films it is clear that Kylo Ren is not fully in control of his actions and he is being manipulated consistently as shown by the quotes above. When having that manipulation in conjunction with the neglect of a parental figure, then you get the full-blown reality that is Kylo Ren.
Feeling “misunderstood and neglected by his parents” is a valid excuse for turning to the Darkside in the world of a fictional fairy tale. Keep in mind we are not in a reality where this is okay, yet the world in which Star Wars exists allows such things to be redeemable and explainable. Take for example when Padme knew about Anakin killing younglings; she wanted him to still come home because she ‘loved’ him. If he had turned back to the light at that moment she would have most likely accepted him back. It is a danger of the force. They are not dealing with everyday normal emotions; the force, as well as the genre of the franchise, creates a heightened sense of urgency which is apparent throughout the forty-plus years Star Wars has been around (hell, as long as any fairy tale has been around). When you point out that Vader did the ultimate good thing in the end, do you mean to save his son and push Palpatine down a duct? If so, then this would be his redemption which occurred in the last of the original trilogies. If you are to treat Kylo with the same rules as Vader, then we must give him a chance to ‘do the right thing’, something which the filmmakers have been steadily building his character-arc for. Vader did numbers ‘wrong’ things, some of them much worse than Kylo has done. But yet the audience still chose to respect him, even before the prequels which fleshed out the story of Anakin Skywalker.
Now, you may be correct in that Ben Solo knew of Vader’s redemption, and I misspoke, to which I am sorry. He, in fact, learned of his heritage when he was training with Luke at his academy when he received a letter from his mother. The contents of the letter are unknown, though it is assumed she told him of his heritage when he was in his late teens. This was only because one of her rivals she was campaigning against in the senate threatened to leak the knowledge to the public that Leia was the daughter of the infamous Darth Vader. Ben had no idea before-hand though, so once again we assume that this had some type of impact. Imagine finding out your grandfather was Hitler. Would that be fun? But, since we addressed the fact that external material should not need to be consumed in order for a film to make sense, then we should disregard any idea as to how Ben Solo came to learn of his heritage. It is not mentioned in the films, but it is a widely held belief by many in the fandom that if Kylo Ren knew of his grandfathers’ redemption then he merely took this as a lapse in judgment in his late years (especially since it is hinted to in the films that Ren is speaking to someone via the Vader mask). Perhaps said mask has been telling Ren lies in lieu of the true story of the redemption. But that is speculation. What is not speculation is the line Ren utters in The Force Awakens, “Forgive me. I feel it again... The pull to the light... Supreme Leader senses it. Show me again... The power of the darkness... And I'll let nothing stand in our way... Show me... Grandfather... and I will finish... what you started.” What we can tell from the film is that Ren is in a constant struggle to stay within the dark, and through his words, it is expressed how this warrants forgiveness. The second half of the statement is even more worrying in the fact that Ren says ‘show me again’, referencing a previous time this ‘Vader’ has shown him what the darkness entails. Will we find out in episode nine if there was an imposter (Palpatine?) feeding more lies and brainwashing to Kylo Ren? That means not only was he getting terrible treatment from Snoke, but from his ‘grandfather’ as well. Perhaps this is why in the final trailer for episode nine we see Rey and Ren destroying said helmet. Until the film comes out, this will still be a mystery.
In coming to why I believe the Jedi are bad, I side with Luke Skywalker on this one. As he says in The Last Jedi, “ At the height of their powers, they allowed Darth Sidious to rise, create the Empire, and wipe them out. It was a Jedi Master who was responsible for the training and creation of Darth Vader.” To that, Rey points out that it was also a Jedi who saved him. Which is true! Yet, the rules surrounding the Jedi order are such that allowed for Anakin to search elsewhere for support. True, he was very conflicted, but the Jedi are so extreme that they do not welcome outside opinions or thinking. You are either all light or you’re bad. There is no intermediary. That is why the answer is grey Jedi. I know those exist, and what needs to happen is a yin and yang between the light and the dark. Working together fosters acceptance and love within the galaxy. Even the symbol in the pool of the Jedi Temple in which Luke tucked himself away had a figure in a yin and yang pattern. “Powerful light and powerful dark...a balance”. Yet, any dark whatsoever that the Jedi see they stamp out.
When Anakin says, “If you’re not with me, then you’re against me”, Obi-wan responds with, “Only sith think in absolutes!”. Well, can you see the issue there? Obi-wan is also thinking in absolute. Using the word only further segmented and cast aside Anakin, by labeling him a lost cause. Such a similar thing happened with Kylo Ren and the incident with Luke at the Jedi Academy. The momentary lapse which Luke expressed to Rey was the tipping point. In Ren’s eyes, even his Master saw him beyond saving. And since everyone around him insists on thinking in absolute, then he must be bad according to them, right?
Slowly, Ren is beginning to realize there is another way, something not presently defined within the Star Wars universe. It is not Sith, it is not Jedi, it is not the First Order: it is the ‘new order’ which he proposes to Rey. Yet, he is not ready for redemption yet. The entire point of the scene was for Rey to realize that Kylo Ren cannot be saved by anyone but himself. This is a very powerful message and I am quite looking forward to seeing how his self-realization occurs in Episode Nine. Now, keep in mind that he had banked everything on Rey saying yes, and in his mind, she is “Still. Holding. ON!”, which she is, and he is right that it is holding her back. How can you expect someone from a family of yelling, angry people to get it right the first time? In fact, Adam Driver had to ask Rian Johnson if Kylo Ren had ever kissed a girl before. Kylo is not experienced in this ‘love’ world. He did not receive much love language from his absentee parents, so the only relationship he’s known for most of his teen and adult life is that of Snoke and General Hux. At that moment in which he wakes up to realize she is gone is one of abandonment and rejection. He thought he had found his match, the answer to his loneliness, and she snapped his lightsaber in two. He is basically throwing a grownup temper-tantrum, which is blatantly apparent in the standoff with Luke. When Kylo threatens everything, even ‘destroying’ Rey, Luke claims that everything Kylo says is “a lie”. It is clear in the last few moments of the film when Kylo is defeated and on his knees holding his father’s die that the audience begins to realize his anger was all a facade. In that shot, he is merely a lost and lonely boy realising the path he has chosen is wrong. The final force-bond between Kylo and Rey exhibits every one of those notions. There is no anger in his face, not very ‘destroy-ee’ of him, and he looks up with her with an almost longing. But when she sternly shuts the door on him, once again he is left alone, the die slowly fading from his gloved hand.
If that doesn’t sound like poetry then I don’t know what is! George Lucas was quoted saying in the behind the scenes of the prequels, “You see the echo of where it all is gonna go. It’s like poetry, sort of. They rhyme.” Similar themes and sequences occur within the franchise, and they have kept that alive at Disney Lucas Films, especially in regards to the parallels drawn between Anakin/Padme and Kylo/Rey. They even designed their respective costumes in a similar fashion. Kylo has his mother and father’s anger and stubbornness. They had a rough idea of where it was all going to go. And in regards to JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson, JJ Abrams was an executive producer on Episode 8 and had a say in the general outline of the plot. JJ had set up the relationship between Kylo and Rey in The Force Awakens, and Rian continued along that path. He followed the skeleton needed to get the plot from 7-9. But think about it, Disney would not allow Rian to just veer off the path completely. Yes he had some creative license but within parameters. Sometimes I don’t think people understand the workings of a large corporation with creative decisions. On a project like Star Wars there is always input from the higher-ups. In addition, JJ Abrams auditioned potential Kylo Ren actors with the script from Pride and Prejudice (Mr. Darcy of course). This is made clear in the writing decisions and parallels which have been made for that particular character.
Lastly, would you really want George Lucas at the helm of this new trilogy? People thought the prequels were terrible and Lucas went back and digitally altered the originals against the will of fans. He is not technically the best when it comes to scriptwriting (Exhibit A: “I hate sand, it gets everywhere!”) Also, Mark Hamill was interviewed in the early ’00s and said, "You know, when I first did this, it was four trilogies. 12 movies! And out on the desert, any time between setups...lots of free time. And George was talking about this whole thing. I said, 'Why are you starting with IV, V and VI? It's crazy.' [Imitating Lucas grumble,] 'It's the most commercial section of the movie.'” Yes, the first film was a stand-alone, since they had no idea they would receive any further funding. But then the immense success allowed for Lucas to develop the franchise further.
What I think people tend to forget is that Star Wars is a fairy tale, and it is not supposed to be about ‘a mass murder’ who is going to jail. It is supposed to be about redemption at its very heart. George Lucus had expressed that he intended Star Wars as a series for “twelve-year-olds”. This explains things like Jar Jar Binks and other bizarre choices he has made as a creator. Though this explains a lot of why most of the people who hate the franchise now are angry adults online who live in an overly politically correct world judging a fictional character who is in the middle of a character arc. As JJ Abrams had said in the director's commentary of The Force Awakens, “We looked at it like […] a fairy tale. What are the elements that you’re going to see that makes it this genre, this specific genre? […] You’re probably going to have a castle, and a prince and a princess, if you’re looking at a fairy tale. We wanted to give these fundamental, not cosmetic, but prerequisite elements.”

Ok listen, yes season five is going to be full of Supercorp pain but you know what else it's going to be? Crisis
Now ofcourse this isn't necessarily a good thing, especially because the Supergirl episode is being held until after winter break wich means the angst is going to be unbelievable, but there is a chance that the core of Supergirl's connection to Crisis is going to be... Lena
Hear me out
Each show is leaving an ostrich sized easter egg to lead us into Crisis, but wile Arrow's and The Flash's are pretty obvious tie-ins to their respective shows, Supergirl's is ... not
I mean, yes, J'onn has a brother who wants him dead, and the Anti-Monitor brought Lex back to life (assumingly) but neither of those are earth shattering ties to the overarching story of Supergirl, Lena, however, is, but I'll get to that later
Arrow's plot for Crisis is pretty obvious- Oliver fullfilling his promise to the Anti-Monitor in order to save Kara and Barry, this will not only greatly impact his series, but considering that Arrow is ending, it's really more of a send-off than anything else
The Flash's plot for Crisis is equally clear- The series-long drama concerning Barry's vanishing will finally come to a head and The Flash is bound to be forever changed by it
Legends Of Tommorrow won't air until tommorrow and Batwoman won't air until next year, so those two are currently N/A, wich is fine honestly, as Elseworlds- the pre-cursor to Crisis- was really mostly about Oliver, Barry, and Kara
But this leaves Supergirl as the odd one out
Two of the three shows that built the groundwork for Crisis via Elseworlds will be permenantely impacted by Crisis in a way that culminates a very large part of their entire series to date, but Supergirl's Crisis clue was.... not that
J'onn's brother has had no precident in Supergirl's canon up until now, nor is there- to my knowledge- an overarching plot about him and Kara from the comic books, Lex Luthor potentially coming back to life was hardly a clue and even if it was, let's remember that Lex is on LOAN to Supergirl, unlike other major players like Lena, Brainy, and Nia, he isn't meant to be a permenant integration to Supergirl, he's only there to come in and out like Superman does, so whatever happens regarding him will only *add* to Supergirl's story, not be the center of it, even more confusing, Supergirl doesn't have any connections to time travel right now the way that Arrow, Flash, and even Legends do, I had originally assumed that the bleak future Imra told Kara about when the Legion came to help with Reign was going to come back into play, after all, the Legion did leave Brainy for us as a permenant connection to the future, but there wasn't a single breath about anything from season three at all, meaning this seems unlikely to be the case
So that leaves us with quite a quary- if The Flash and Arrow are giving us nods to Crisis that will greatly impact their shows on a level that the audience immediately understands, what has Supergirl done that's similar?
Revealed the truth to Lena, that's what
Wile Lena wasn't part of the show from season one, this isn't the CW's fault, she was part of the show from the moment that the CW got ahold of it, meaning that any seeds they may have wanted to plant for this like they did with The Flash could *only* be established starting from season two
Because the CW only had access to Supergirl starting season two, I'm going to disregard season one for the purpose of this meta, not because I don't like season one or because I don't consider it canon (I do- on both counts) but because the CW had no way of influencing anything that happened on season one and any overarching plans couldn't have been established then
So from the start of Supergirl's run on the CW, one of the biggest overarching stories has been about Lena finding out, unlike others such as Nia, Cat, and various villains that come and go, the theme of her secret identity is not something that comes and goes, nor is it something that can potentially be waved away with a little bit of trickster-ness on Kara's part (think J'onn masquerading as Kara in front of Cat), it's never been handled as a cute tongue-and-cheek thing or even an inevitability the way it was with Nia, with Lena it's never been a question of "when?" but "if?", it's never been treated as a laughing matter either the way it sometimes was with Cat- who half the fandom is legitimately quite sure already knew anyway
With Lena, it's always been something serious, even in the cutest moments of potential-reveals, there's always been a real sense of drama there, and that's the one overarching story that the CW has been planning since the beginning- particularly that's come to land right now, at the end of season four
Much like Barry's newspapper finally coming to fruition- with a near gurantee of resolution in Crisis- Kara's ultimate story about her secret identity- wich is something her story has focused on far more than the others- has also come to a head and promises a sort of resolution next season- I predict in Crisis
But there are two different ways this story can go down:
1. Lena The Villain
2. Lena The Hero
It's the same juxtapositioned conflict that Lena has dealt with during the ENTIRE show, and I predict that Crisis will resolutely solidify her position one way or another
Crisis is very much doing the same thing Avengers did with Endgame, it's creating a pre and post era system, just as the MCU will always be defined by "pre-Endgame" an "post-Edgame", the Arrowverse will always be defined as "pre-Crisis" and "post-Crisis"
Post-Crisis Arrowverse will be a universe without Arrow in it, a universe without the looming threat of Barry vanishing in Crisis, and a universe without the question of weather Lena is ultimately good or evil, it'll introduce a new era that will likely install a new Mega Plot to unfold over the course of five or six years
But back to Lena
There's always been a push-and-pull about Lena's goodness, not only on screen, with Lena consistantly having to turn away from temptations that would lead her down an evil path, but behind the scenes as well, with the writers admitting quite consistantly that Lena would have times of straddling the moral fence and that they had considered her going down a darker path, and with Melissa comparing Kara and Lena to early!Clark and Lex, as, after all, Clark and Lex were closer than brothers, once upon a time, now with Lex gone- for a time atleast- and Lena having a real, personal motivation to hurt Supergirl, without Kara weighing in as a concious, she's being set up to look like a villain
I, personally, don't think she'll turn into one, but for the sake of arguments and theorizing let's just say she does
Crisis would be the launching pad of Lena emerging not as morally grey or going down a crooked path, but as a full-on, bonefied villain that's out to get Supergirl
It would certainly launch a new period for Supergirl as a show, a point of no return, something that would solidly be "Pre-Crisis" vs "Post-Crisis"
If Lena launches as a villain that could be Kara's big conflict for Crisis, having to fight her best freind, it could even be a matter of Kara rewriting the universe so that Lena never found out she was Supergirl.... or rewriting it so that she told Lena herself, both of wich are possible with time travel, wich will almost certainly be at play
Lena Luthor would certainly be a villain mighty enough to possibly bring about the end of the world, especially if she wasn't the only one responsible for it
However, I don't think this is what's going to happen, I think Lena is going to join the Super Freinds officially... and start by saving Supergirl during Crisis
Once again, that will solidify her as good forever, no longer raising the question of where her allegiance is, and it'll also create a very clear pre-era vs post-era
We know that Oliver made a deal to save Kara and Barry, but we don't know if that deal means they'll go into Crisis wearing virtual plot armor (meaning what would have initially killed them no longer happens at all) or if that deal creates two life-savers for them that weren't initially going to be there, such as Lena Luthor, who wasn't going to be part of this until she found out who Supergirl was, and, as consequence, has become more wrapped up in the Big Bad Battles since finding out (that doesn't mean Lena necessarily has been helping Kara through 5A, just that she's more involved in what's going on than ever before, wich is pretty reasonable to suggest, all things considered)
Oliver's deal with the anti-Monitor was enacted before this episode aired after all, so whatever Oliver did, it's set in stone, it's very possible that he created a life-line option for both of his freinds, thus why Lena found out now of all times, after so long of not knowing, that only set in motion that she would be involved in Crisis.... and be there to save Supergirl from something that would have otherwise killed her
Obviously I have no proof of any of this but I just find it really odd that for one of the three connected to Crisis through Elseworlds, for one of the two that Oliver made his deal for, the only Crisis hint we got is for a charector that ... isn't even going after Supergirl
At all
He has nothing to do with her, and Anti-Monitor doing whatever he did with Lex doesn't give us any real hints about where Crisis is taking Kara's storyline, it doesn't even prove that Lex will be facing Supergirl in Crisis at all, there's still a possibility that Superman comes back from Argo and we get a Clark vs Lex showdown- even a small one, after all for the biggest crossover in  DC's TV history, it'd be weird to have Lex there and not Superman
Furthermore, it isn't like Supergirl has no way of incorporating time travel, Brainy's entire charector is based on that concept, last season was entirely about it and even told of a future where Supergirl not only is no longer alive, but where she too dissappeared long before Imra was even born, that would have been the PERFECT tie in for Kara and Crisis but it wasn't even remotely hinted at, meaning they're going to be doing something completely different, they have to have a better tie-in for her to not have used something so obvious
So what does that leave? Where is Kara's actual story in all of this? It could very well be with Lena, it's the option that makes the most sense, after all

Ha ha! "Donated" by Rex Mason. What a complete and utter dick.
I get how exciting it must have been to be a looter of other countries' treasures. I did play a lot of Dungeons & Dragons as a kid and I never once thought about the poor orc whose home I was invading so I could shove a sword up his ass and steal his precious copper pieces (which I was absolutely disappointed in). Sure, it seems fucked up when you think about it like that. But that's before you remember the alignment system! The orc was automatically the bad guy with his evil alignment! Anything you wanted to do to him was just fine! He was the bad guy! If he didn't want me stealing his copper, maybe he should have made a show of giving up his evil ways and took on the trappings of man and elf! But no! He was content to sit in his dirty hole with his dirty family eking out a dirty living being a rotten, evil monster worth a few lousy experience points. You can't make me care about that stupid orc no matter how many John Gardner wannabes write Grendelesque fan fiction about how the bad person was just a regular ordinary person who got the short end of life's dumb stick! It's fucking propaganda! Wicked, my ass! Don't go making excuses for that witch! She knew what she was doing when she chose a life of flying monkeys and stealing shoes!

It's weird to think that Western Civilization has mostly come to the realization that all of these treasures in museums were found at all. Sure, the people in power and the people in charge mostly aren't coming to that conclusion because why would you when you own everything now? But we understand the context of archaeological theft much better. But even as kids watching Raiders of the Lost Ark, how did we not realize Indy was obviously stealing that golden idol right at the beginning? It was in a secure location guarded by traps and after he stole it, the owners tried to chase him down to stop it. And he was as good a guy as you could get in 1981! I guess when one of the greatest tenets of capitalism is "Finders keepers, losers weepers," it's understandable that we all rooted on a terrible thief of cultural artifacts. Rex Mason has given up his exciting career of liberating treasures from dolts who don't know the value of their sacred religious objects because stealing from primitive people and Yetis who just want to be left alone has become too easy. Also he's full of guilt over having a son. His son must live in quarantine since he can turn whatever he touches into other elements. Sapphire's right breast is now polonium. I'm not even going to be distracted from reading this comic book by pondering how Metamorpho had a kid. Last I checked, spermatozoa wasn't on the periodic table of elements. The greatest female archaeologist, Jillian Conway, arrives to tell Rex she's found a cure for his condition (and probably his son's too!). Apparently the Orb of Ra won't kill Metamorpho; it'll cure him if he allows himself to succumb to its power. And she knows this because she was exposed to the meteorite too!

Rex agrees to go looking for the Orb of Ra (which was stolen from Stagg) with Jillian. At first, I thought things were going to get romantic. And then I thought things might get alchemic. But then Rex decided the first thing he should do is kidnap his son and bring him on the adventure with them. So I guess this is going to be one of those kinds of stories. A wacky family comedy where dad has to handle the baby all by himself on a trip around the world while the too-disgusting-to-look-at love interest gets ignored. Rex leaves a note for Sapphire but her father trashes it and just tells her Rex kidnapped their son. Why she might believe him and how she came to marry Java, fuck if I know. This was back when DC actually allowed characters to have involved and intimate relationships that led to weird freak baby children!

I didn't realize it was canon that Sapphire Stagg is the best looking woman in the DC Universe (followed closely by Abigail Arcane).
Metamorpho #1 Rating: A-. Not a bad start to a nice little story about fatherhood, capitalism, and second marriages. It might also be about ugly people because all but one of these characters are hideous freaks. Sure, most characters would be hideous freaks compared to Sapphire Stagg. But even disregarding her ethereal beauty so powerful that I've already struck Erin Esurance from the top of my list of cartoon characters I want to touch in a sexy place, they're all disgusting monsters. I just made that list up. It doesn't actually exist. Never mind what I'm holding behind my back.

HISTORY
lily is born late january, 1960, as the second child to jonathan and miranda evans, a pair of muggles who have found the perfect balance between standing out and being ordinary. she grows up running after ( and sometimes in front of ) her sister, petunia, her best friend for most of her youth. her father works as a bank teller and – like many – hates his job. her mother is a stay at home mum, who mostly spends her free time tending to the family’s garden — their pride and joy.
lily has many memories of that garden. plucking flowers for her teachers, playing hide and seek, digging through the dirt with her tiny fingers, having barbecue’s and picknicks, laughing at her father’s deep hum of a voice as he complains about customers, crying in her mother’s arms when she scuffed her knees.
so life was ordinary and happy and simple. sure, lily was able to make flowers grow with a touch of her fingers if she concentrated deeply and caused small explosions when she raged ( which was often — lily was an energetic child, but an explosive one, too ). they explained it away with laughter, and kept on living. and then there was severus, whom she met when she was nine, who explained it all.
lily was a witch, and she loved it. she didn’t quite understand it, but she loved it. her parents seemed enthusiastic enough, too, even if they didn’t start believing it until a witch showed up on their doorstep. severus was a new friend, someone who’d help her brave this new world. and petunia … petunia was withering away from her life, slowly taking steps back and back until things seemed beyond repair.
going to hogwarts was confusing, at first. when she stepped on that train, something between her and petunia was changed forever, and lily shed a few tears before she met up with severus. once arrived, she was sorted in gryffindor in a matter of seconds. honestly, i don’t know what to say about hogwarts what wasn’t stated in canon — lily was a great student?? loved learning, had natural skills, was charming, etc. she wasn’t perfect, of course — she was prone to starting debates in class, to going on tangents, cursed quickly and easily and very … creatively
what i’m trying to say is she definitely wasn’t a goody two shoes?? yes, she cared about her education, but no, she was no stickler to the rules. lily was and is a firecracker, someone with fire, and there were plenty of times when she chose to disregard rules, or to go against what was asked for her. not out of spite or just because, always for a good reason, but still. also got into plenty of fights, mostly verbal, mostly with purists, but also with plenty of other people.
lily excelled in charms and potions, specifically. was a big fan of herbology as well, and transfiguration merely bc of mcgonagall.
and then, things seemed to shift. severus called her a mudblood. he was the only person who’d been part of her life before and during hogwarts, and now she couldn’t look at him any more without feeling nauseous. tensions were rising all around her, too. lily started wearing her blood status as a badge of pride even more than before. she became unforgiving and angry and determined to see change. she worked hard in her classes and worked hard on her friendships and tried not to combust with her rage.
and she somehow fell for james potter too, what a fucking tool. both of them. ugh. such a sappy story!!! but yes. they became a thing, and i stan.
lily graduated and had no clue where to go, until it dawned on her — her voice, her anger, her need to find truth: she could use that all. screw having a particularly magical job; lily applied at up and coming news site and magazine lumos and started interning there the summer after graduation. lily as a journalist is very important to me. her whole need for truth is in all honesty the most important thing about her so excuse me as i am about to go on a RANT.
i mean, lily herself is honest. brutally so. she can’t lie, either, and barely ever sees cause to. it’s partly just nature, but also a bit of nurture, i think. her sister, for example, so caught up in her lies and her wish for perfection seems altogether untrue because of it. severus, who hid true thoughts from her. her father, who never told his customers how annoyed he truly was. so many blood purists in the world, keeping their views carefully quiet. this war is based on lies. the world wizards live in is based on lies, and lily hates it. she seeks truth, always has, always will. it’s part curiosity, part anger.
her job as a journalist allows her to seek truth. it also allows her to cover the war, to talk about it, to hold interviews and seek out sources, to think of good questions, to be critical and empathetic and clever. all things lily likes and loves and wants to do.
lily also joined the order. i mean, what other option was there to fight? her family, her friends, she herself — everyone was in danger because of this damn war. there was no bone in her body that thought about sitting still, and when she was approached about the order, she didn’t think twice before saying yes. there is no way that lily ever accept the reality these death eaters want. no way. she’ll die before she sees that happen.
where her and james are at is still something i’m discussing with liz, but they’re def happily in love! lily is about to get pregnant too and she’s going to freak
CURRENTLY & PERSONALITY
okay so i know i’ve mentioned lily’s anger a lot, and i think that’s an important thing to talk about? lily is a very feeling person. she’s compassionate and kind and empathetic. she cares about others, and does so easily. she does so deeply. and she feels deeply too, always has. she cries easily, laughs easily, rages easily. combine those two things and the fact that there’s a war going on that’s fueled by such sickening bigotry … well, of course she’s fucking angry. her anger comes from her kindness, it comes from her compassion and her warmth. her motivation isn’t her anger, per se — it’s her wish to see the world different, to see it be good, but her anger is a huge drive.
lily loves muggle shit so much. she came into the lumos office and dropped a whole lot of muggle office supplies on her desk and said: “if i cant work on paper then im walking” and they were like … dude its ok lol wtf. she’s kind of very extra abt it but in this current economy she’s so set on being PROUD of being a muggleborn and she just loves muggle stuff too — i mean, wizarding fashion is Nothing compared to mom jeans and plaid shirts??? she loves muggle music too, especially indiepop and classic rock and just everything by Cool Ladies.
was raised catholic and still practices it but in a v liberal and modern way because she has seen a lot that with the more traditional views. so yeah, her thoughts on religion and especially the way it’s practised have shifted a lot. she still prays, goes to church every now and then ( but definitely not ever sunday ) and sticks with it, even if it’s hard to cling to faith when the world looks the way it does.
cannot cook to save her life, help her
a big  fan of white wine and rose, lolol. will also drink loads of beer if the occasion calls for it. a fun drunk, but also a mama bird when drunk, holding back your hair and drying your tears.
honestly lily is slightly dramatic, full of rage and a downright good person. such a good friend, holy shit. so blunt. so extra. so loving. dances and fights through life. laughs wildly and loudly. gives great hugs. supports blanket forts, always. loves loves loves.

Headcanon A:Realistic.
Jason – The black jeans he wears during the day are the sameones he wears for patrol, everyone knows and it annoys B but no one calls himout on it.
Roy – He’s got hundreds of tiny scars on the tops of hisfeet and on his calves from welding in trainers and sweatpants.
Koriand’r – Remembers her whole relationship with Dick butnow prefers Jason as he seems more genuine.
Artemis – Has contemplated using the Bow of Ra on Themyscirajust to get one over on Diana.
Bizarro – Only wears Red Hood or Artemis merchandise (theyhave to have it all custom made for him.)
Rose – Steals ammo and other weapons from all of the Outlaws(except Mistress and the Bow of Ra) then denies doing so when caught.
Headcanon B: While ItMay Not Be Realistic It Is Hilarious
Jason – As often as he can, Jason spray paints ‘Outlaws was here’on the Batmobile to fuck with B. It mainly messes with Barbara because of thebad grammar.
Roy – Has regularly turned up for patrol or a mission withbaby sick on his uniform or gear. More than once he’s had to pull out the HelloKitty band aids as they’re the only ones currently in his life thanks to Lian.
Koriand’r – Kisses everyone who speaks a different languagebecause she was offended that Jason knew more than she did despite beingyounger than her, especially as he can’t just learn them through kissing.
Artemis – Has gotten tangled in her own hair more than once.Everyone except Bizarro has been sworn to secrecy when they’ve had to go andsave her from herself.
Bizarro – Has ended up as the Gotham Knights mascot for morethan one away game to Metropolis while he’s been wandering around Gotham in hisreverse House of El suit. He loves it because he gets to see Kal El, he doesn’tunderstand that Gotham loves him because they’re always considered thedefective version of Metropolis.
Rose – Cries and complains she’s bleeding to death when shegets a paper cut or unexpected cut while cooking for the Outlaws.
Headcanon C: HeartCrushing And Awful But Fun To Inflict On Friends
Jason – Twice a year, on the anniversary of his death and thenagain on his resurrection, Jason goes to the cemetery and gets blackout drunknear his own gravestone. More than once the Outlaws and Batfamily have foundhim smashing Shelia’s with a crowbar while shouting ‘how do you like it bitch?’Bruce replaces the stone every time he destroys it so that he can continue todo so. It’s not happened as much during the last two years as the Outlaws makea point of joining him and their presence lets him know that he has a family thatloves him. Dick is hoping he and the rest of their siblings can join theOutlaws during the next anniversary.
Roy – On his darkest days he can be found back in the squatswhere he used to score drugs. He goes there to prove to himself that he is farenough into recovery to not use. He’s even scored some heroin before and gottenall the way to drawing it up and tying the tourniquet before he’s dropped itall with shaking hands. He immediately phoned Rose knowing she’d understandafter the drug induced hell her dad put her through.
Koriand’r – Some nights her nightmares are so violent thatshe’s started fires after releasing starbolts in her sleep. At least twice she’sbeen woken up by the rest of the Outlaws and flown them to safety just as thefire brigade arrived to stop the entire building going up in flames. She nowinsists that every Outlaw has a fire extinguisher beside their bed to put outfires, or even douse her, when those nights happen.
Artemis – Actually loves Diana and all of the other Amazonsand wishes she could return to them. She feels like her heart is split in two,half demanding her to remain true to Bana-Mighdall while the other half longsto return to the paradise of Themyscira and to have the family/support thatwould include.
Bizarro – Has massive self-confidence issues and has beenfound muttering to himself about how much he hates himself. The Outlaws havetried to help but with Kal’s prominent presence in both media and the heroworld it is difficult for Bizarro not to compare himself to the man he wascloned from. He seems too perfect and too much of what the public want in ahero when Bizarro compares him to himself.
Rose – Wishes she could replace Joey with Grant. Despitenever really knowing Grant she hates what Joey has become. She is the only onein the Wilson family who knows that he killed his lover for his suit and shehates how callous he was about it. She fears for her life and the life of herteam while Joey and Slade are alive but she knows she isn’t strong enough totake them out herself as a part of her still loves them.
Headcanon D:Unrealistic But I Will Disregard Canon About It Because I Reject Canon AndSubstitute My Own
Jason – has multiple tattoos, piercings, and regularly dyeshis white streak bright colours. B claims he hates it because of ‘identifyingmarks’ but in reality it’s because one of Jason’s tattoos is of a Robin withhis date of birth and date of death written in through a pool of blood. Theblood pool leads into a red domino mask that has the date Talia rescued himfrom Gotham in one of the eye holes. It is across the right half of his backand Jason makes a point of training in the cave without a shirt. He’s alsogotten stitch marks tattooed along where his autopsy scar should be but it waswashed away by the Lazarus Pit.
Roy – Has been heard quoting Brave during a fight whilefiring his arrows due to Lian’s love of the ‘princess like Daddy’. The Outlawsall pretend they don’t know the source as they’ve all quoted Disney orDreamworks thanks to Lian living with them and them all helping to raise her.(DC BRING BACK LIAN AND DO NOT KILLROY)
Koriand’r – Acts like a dumb model while out as her aliasKori Anders when in actuality she’s managed to get four PhDs in physics andastronomy. She is currently working with multiple teams around the world tomake civilian space flight safer and more cost effective.
Artemis – Has willingly dressed up as Wonder Woman for Lian’sbirthday because the little girl has her wrapped around her little finger.Artemis can’t say no to Lian as she sees that the girl is already such awarrior and just wants her to become the best she possibly can.
Bizarro – Has been adopted by the Kent family with themtelling the courts that he was a distant cousin of Clark who’d lost hisparents. Bruce helped falsify all the paper work so that no one could provewhere Biz actually came from. Smallville love him as he’s so gentle with thefarm animals.
Rose – She dyes a black strip, the same thickness as Jason’swhite strip, in the same spot as Jason’s so they can mess with people. Shelikes how it makes her feel more included with the Outlaws and look less likeher father. Plus she enjoyed seeing the barely hidden annoyance on B’s facewhen he saw it for the first time.

Why is it that most of the complicated character in the series that I follow get ignored, or even hated?
In Death Note, it’d be Misa Amane and Teru Mikami most notably. Both of them are insanely complicated characters with their own reasonings, wants, and desires that clearly show through (In my opinion, at least) as almost, but not quite aligning with the main character’s goals. And...let’s not forget lesser known people (As they are mostly hated or ignored rather than unknown) such as Jack Neylon or Hirokazu Ukita?
In Avatar: The Last Airbender, what about Tai Lee? How many people talk about her skill with pressure points and how she literally took out a whole Earthbending battalion by herself as a non-bender? And yet, she still remains a character whose disposition is best described as comedic.
From D. Gray-Man...is NO one curious about Sheryl beyond him being Tyki’s brother? What about Skinn? We even have canon backstory for Skinn, and yet, no one seems to recognize it beyond how painful the transformation to Noah must have been.
Marvel. Actually, just X-Men. Kitty Pride, Shadowcat. The girl can walk through walls and send people’s minds into their past/future self. From what I can tell, she is largely ignored as ‘just another B-class Mutant’. (Granted, I have not kept up with her in comic-heavy fansites, but in general).
In DC. What about Clayface? A scorned actor who gained the ability to mimic others and is...basically indestructible because of his form. Oh, and he can mimic abilities, just saying.
I could give dozens of examples from Harry Potter simply because of the sheer number of characters, but what about Angelina Johnson? Marietta Edgecombe? Hell, even Blaise Zabini. Each of them have stories to share, and reasons for their actions that get overlooked by far more people than they should.
The list could go on, and on, and on, but the point of my mini-rant remains...Some of the characters that are faaaaaaar more fascinating than the ‘main’ or ‘more known’ characters are pushed aside because they a) go against a largely fan favorite character in morals or actions, b) are only seen for their ‘obviously poor’ traits, c) do not care for the spotlight themselves.
Just...there is SO much in a fandom for people to stop looking once they have found a character that they like. You should not just disregard a character because they ‘do not look interesting enough’ or ‘hurt your baby’. The beauty of a fandom is that it is it’s own world, separate from reality. And inside that separate world, everyone has their own reasoning. Usually, it is explained.
I’m not saying that everyone is required to like everyone, but try not to be so superficial. Who knows, your next favorite character might be one that you previously overlooked.

Okay, I’ll use Natasha from Avengers Age of Ultron as an example so the rant won’t be long but still full of salt.
In AOU, it starts with Natasha being the ‘Beauty’ to Hulk the ‘Beast’ which in my opinion is already a red flag, because it reduces Natasha to just a ‘pretty face’ rather than she actually is.
And then, about the red room part, it is said that they’re trained in seduction–which is fine, I mean they’re spies–however, they take away their wombs when they’re of age. This, in itself is a weird thing. Perhaps taking their ability to get pregnant is quite logical since being pregnant would hinder their jobs as spies. But taking their wombs RIGHT when they’re of age, in ceremony for them to be adults? That sounds like a ‘ritual abuse’.
Moreover, Natasha said she is ‘broken’ because she can’t get pregnant anymore–WHICH IS BULLSHIT. Because it shows how Whedon values women by their ability to get pregnant and their pretty face. That woman is less of a woman when she can’t get pregnant.
Worse, that they need someone to make them feel ‘beautiful’ aka validation from a man who is also, the one considered as ‘beast’ but can get a ‘beauty’ by comforting a woman. It may not sound bad, until you recognize how much it sounds like ‘friendzone’ bullshit that man HAS to get the woman they’re nice to. Also, the implied notion that a woman purpose is only to be a romantic interest for a man.
Whedon may looked cool with his trope of ass-kicking heroines, but since the heroines always have this ‘sexual trauma’ as a backstory, as if girls can’t be badass without trauma in any way, it’s another red flag. Sure, he could argue it made the heroines less Mary Sue and more human; but does it have to be sexual trauma? There are many many kinds of trauma women could experience. But his fixation with sexuality of women is really… well, creepy.
The guy is pretty much making his own fanfictions and disregarding all canon because THAT’S WHAT HE WANTS. Like fuck, Black Widow suddenly with Hulk? When she’s really close to Hawkeye in all other movies???
Natasha? In a cage??? Waiting for her boys to save her??? The fuck, we all know Natasha can save herself just fine, she doesn’t need anyone to get her out of a jail. And even if she needs help, she won’t just sit waiting. Her rescuers will see her doing god fucking knows in her jail trying to free herself, not just sitting pretty.
Also, look at the garbage that is Wonder Woman script by Whedon. It’s a fucking disaster. Let it just burn.
Really, Marvel and DC have to fucking drop Whedon (and Zack Snyder too) from every movie. These men are a fucking mess.
