You’re Mine
Noah Sebastian x Reader
3.6k words.
A/N: jealous Noah has me feeling strong feelings. Smutty shit so 18+ only. Wrote this instead of working on higher priority WIPs.
Tumblr media
You twist the handle for the hot water off, steam being the only thing that filled the small shower around you now. After the long day you had, a nice, hot shower was the only thing that seemed to help take the edge off. With a sigh, you step from the warmth surrounding you, reaching for the towel and swiftly tucking in the side to preserve your modesty.
As you exit from the bathroom, you swipe meaninglessly through your phone, scrolling through photos posted from friends and the odd targeted advertisement. With a small ding a new notification graces the top of your screen. An old friend of yours, Patrick, that you had kept in touch with throughout the years, had recently reached out and was sending memes he thought you would like. Seeing as the two of you had similar jobs, they were mostly focused on that. Innocent enough, but it wasn’t worth looking at now.
Without taking much notice of your surroundings, you walk between the bathroom and into the kitchen in search of a snack to quell your cravings. Noah was leaning on the counter in the middle of the kitchen, elbows propping up with one hand curled into a fist under his chin, the other scrolling through something on his phone. His eyes were slightly glazed over, a side effect of the doom scrolling that he often fell into. You side-eye him as you walk past, pulling an unimpressed face as you responsibly reach for an apple.
The bite you take makes a loud crunch that is the only sound that breaks the silence in the room. The chewing that follows is equally as loud and disturbing, echoing as an irritating wet, mushy slurp. You kept your eyes on Noah as you took a second loud bite from the apple, knowing full well he loathes the sound.
Another scroll with his thumb flashes bright colours and fast-moving videos on his phone, still unaware of your presence.
A third bite of the apple, this one finally earning a reaction. His head slowly turns, pivoting on the hand that he still has balancing under his chin, his eyes landing on you as you take a fourth, menacingly slow and obnoxiously loud bite.
And then it is a stare-down. You refuse to let up, keeping a blank expression on your face as you grind down, meticulously masticating the organic surgery fruit. Noah squinted his eyes, knowing full well that it was your intention to bother him. He clicks his phone so the screen locks, and places it gently on the counter.
“Alright! That’s it!” he finally calls as you lift the apple, almost gone now, to your mouth dramatically slowly for another bite, although you never get to take it. Noah stands and strides over to you, snatching the apple from your hands, tossing it into the bin that sat in the corner of the room. It was immediately after that you were tossed over his shoulder, flailing in a panic. He turned on his heels and speed-walks to the bedroom. You bounced slightly as the pace he held wasn’t one that was all that graceful. He was laughing maniacally at your feeble attempts to squirm from his grasp. You would never tell him that you weren’t actually trying.
With a jostle and a thud, he dumps you on your back, the soft mattress bouncing below you. You fight playfully, trying your best to catch Noah’s fast and nimble hands as they darted in and out, tickling your sides. His smile is palpable, his hair wavering from side to side as he adjusts his plan of attack every time you twist and turn under him. He has his knees pinned by your sides, grey sweats and a black t-shirt lingering over you as his colourful, decorated arms and neck looked ever so enticing. You couldn't help but notice the way that his pants twitched as he continued to hold you pinned down on the bed.
In a sudden change of heart, his hands stop, grasping your wrists and holding them above your head in one of his hands. He drops his face so that it is an inch from yours. His breath wafted over your face and you smiled, glancing between his intense gaze and watching the way he licked his lips.
“How was your shower? Did it fix your bad day?” He asked. His head tilted to the side slightly. The question sounded innocent enough, right?
“I’m still a little tense,” you reply. And you were honest with your response. It was a long day. When you arrived home, your bags were quickly dumped on the floor by the door haphazardly, a huff leaving you in an attempt to exult some of the emotion that had pent up all day. Working with kids was difficult on a normal day, but there must have been something in the air today for them to be as wild as they were. Noah knew you were in a less-than-ideal mood. Bless his soul, he did try and help, but the best thing you could do was to wash the day away. Now, even after a shower, the aftereffects of a bad day were still lingering despite being only towel-clad underneath your boyfriend.
“Turn over” he motions with his head, releasing your hands from his vice grip allowing you to lay on your stomach instead. In the midst of this motion, he tweaks his fingers under the top of where your towel sat, tugging at the tuck that held it secure. You had a sharp inhale as the cold air hit your bare skin, still warm and slightly damp from your shower.
You heard Noah hum behind you and you glance over your shoulder back at him, but he doesn't see your face. Instead, his eyes are trailing down your body, pupils dilating when he sets his sight on your ass.
Noah was an ass man for sure. And he was obsessed with yours. He would always be so handsy with you, the odd playful slap here and there, tucking his hand into your back pocket to cop a feel when he probably shouldn't be, even his favourite sex positions were the ones where it was front and centre in his view.
You tucked your hands under your chin, still twisting so that you could see Noah in your peripherals. His hands started to glide over your back, down your sides, following the sweet contours of your body. Noah let out a low growl from deep within, but you’re certain he wasn’t aware of half the noises he was making; the deep breaths, slight gasps and quiet moans.
Using all of his restraint, Noah tears his gaze from your ass and lifts his body so that he is kneeling over you, hands now placed on your shoulders. He could still feel the tension in the knots that had built up over time, forming firm ridges across your shoulders and back. Tattooed digits started to knead into the tender muscles twisting under your skin. The pressure mixed with the slow circles made you close your eyes and let out an involuntary moan. Noah hummed and smiled to himself, knowing the power this had over you. You were such a sucker for massages, and could never deny having Noah;s hands all over your body.
He continued to try his best to break down the clusters of tension, twisting and rubbing at the bundles that had gathered over a long time. Your head would roll from one side to the other, allowing Noah to work into different areas and use different pressures to make some kind of difference. Noah would be lying if he said he didn’t love it too. Having his hands all over you? Making you feel good? Knowing full well that this often led to something far more exciting? Yes please.
It was at this moment, as you were about to be lost to Noah’s touch and oblivious to the world, when your phone dinged again. Lifting it up to your face, another notification from your old friend lit up the phone that was strewn carelessly on the bed next to you.
Noah’s hands stopped.
“Who’s Patrick’?” Noah asks, the slighted hint annoyance in this voice. You readjusted your position so you could see Noah’s face, his expression blank. You tried to wriggle so you could twist from under him, but his legs tensed and squeezed you so you were stuck, completely at his mercy.
“He’s an old friend. Has a similar job. Been sending me some memes about work. He sent me one earlier but I didn’t respond so he’s probably sending another” you answer.
“Sending you memes, huh? He does this often?” Noah’s leg muscles were still tense beside you as he sat back on his haunches, warm calloused hands now retreating from your body.
“I mean, a little bit. He reached out last week after he started a new job with someone I used to know.” You pause, Noah’s demeanour was changing before your very eyes. Now, he seemed a little standoffish.
Noah makes a “Hmff” noise in response.
“Noah?” He doesn’t respond. “Are you jealous?”
No response again.
“Noah” you call once more.
“You’re seriously moody because I have been talking to an old friend?” You prop your head up on your hands in an effort to get a better view of Noah. Although you could see his face, he had turned to look across the room beyond you, and he seemed perplexed.
“Fine. Don’t talk to me. That's totally fine” you say sarcastically, shifting underneath him to slip out from his legs still perched beside you. Before you could free yourself entirely, Noah leaves. He stands and crosses the room, disappearing into your walk-in robe. Sounds of shuffling items then follows.
You twist and sit up, pulling the towel back around you. Your gaze was down at trying to hitch the material back into a safe tuck as you ignored the kerfuffle Noah was making when he walked back into the room.
Just as you are satisfied with the towel adjustments, Noah’s hands are on you, pushing you back down onto the bed. He hovers over you again, but now his eyes were dark and his motions were very intentional.
You go to speak, but Noah shakes his head and stands again, holding a firm grip on your hips so that you swivel to a new angle, diagonal across the bed, and spinning so that you land back onto your stomach, just like before.
Your eyes glance up in front of you and you see what the commotion Noah was making before. A full body-length mirror was now sat up leaning against the wall, allowing for your reflection to stare right back at you. You look up at Noah through your eyelashes in the mirror, raising an eyebrow quizzically at you, trying to figure out the expression Noah has spread all over his face. That is, until it hits. It’s a look of desire.
He proceeds to crawl over you, leaning forward on closed fists so that they land on either side of your head before rising to be on his knees. Illustrated hands that contrast with the towel hitch around your hips, yanking them up fast and forcefully so that your knees fall under you, perching your ass high.
You couldn’t help but have a smirk plastered on your face; Noah on the other hand, still doing his best to hold a poker face. His gaze wanders down, allowing his hands to rub possessively over your cheeks under the fuzzy material. They dance lightly over your hips, then begin the trace lines on the insides of your thighs. You let out a high-pitched whimper as an automatic response. You had no control over what influence Noah had on your body, let alone when you were like this.
Noah’s eyes didn’t leave your face, so you teasingly leant back, pressing your skin closer to him. Your breath started to quicken, hitching in your throat when his nimble fingers flicked at the towel causing it to slip down, exposing your body once again. Noah struggled to keep his composure as he took the sights, expression faltering slightly and his hands moved to your folds immediately feeling the warm wetness on his fingertips.
Your eyes slipped closed, relishing in the lightest of touches that Noah was gracing you with, that was until one hand came down with a hard slap on your ass, and the fingers teasing you were gone.
Your eyes shoot open and your body jolts in reaction, except Noah clamps his hands on your hips and pulls you back closer to him.
“Keep them open” he growls, and you watch the way his mouth twitches as his fingers return to your folds, one hand grabbing a handful of the tender skin of your ass cheek perched up in his direction. You lock eyes in the mirror. “I want you to see who’s you are,” he continued.
Slowly, one finger glides into your pussy. It might not be enough, but it’s something. You rock back in the slightest way, and Noah’s grip tightens on your ass. He gives you a warning glance, before his eyes move to his digit disappearing into your folds. It curls up inside you, like he was beckoning you to come closer. The caressing on your inside walls slowly pumps out, and then in again. A rhythm started to build and he added a second finger.
Starting to feel more full, your eyes begin to close, but you remember the demands before they fully shut. Instead, you peer through half-closed slits and admire the way Noah’s hips were starting to grind against you. There was a mound growing in his pants, grazing against your inner thigh, telling you that he is loving this.
“Does that feel good?” He murmurs from behind you, and his eyes are back on yours in the mirror. You nod and hum in response, sliding a hand back behind you to reach for Noah. He takes your hand, grasps it firmly, and places it on your back. It’s feels unnatural, but not unformatabme. Your fingers intertwine as acts almost like an anchor. For you? For Noah? You’re not sure, maybe even both of you.
“Say my name” he demands.
“N….” You start, and he flicks his wrist, stopping any ability to control your voice. Instead, a moan escapes.
“What was that?” He whispers, twisting his fingers again in the same motion.
“Nooaaahhhhh…” the end of his name escapes your mouth as a sigh, as though it could have very well been your last breath.
Noah’s fingers disappear from inside you, slipping out and bringing with it some of the wetness that is all but dripping from your pussy.
“What do you want?” He asks. But you can’t speak. The emptiness turns into an ache. All you can do is stare at him in the mirror and watch as he slides his fingers into his mouth, letting drips of your own liquids run down his chin. His eyes are blown wide and dark with desire, and he notices the way your legs twitch closer when his tongue graces the space between his two fingers, curling up to clean them of any remnants of you on them.
“I- I want you” you are able to stammer out between the heavy breaths.
He grins a devilish grin and shifts his weight, struggling to jam down his sweats to his thighs with one hand, ignoring his own wet patch of precum that had soaked through the front of them. His hand then lands on the outside of your thigh, in the crease where it meets your hip, as he steadies himself. You can feel the tip of his cock nudge at your entrance, and then he pauses.
His dark eyes are locked in on yours, looking through his eyelashes, and moving his eyes, slowly rocks his hips forward. The pressure is achingly slow. He is teasing you. Letting you know that he is in control here.
Your free hand grasps at fbe sheets below you, trying in some way to let out the tension that is building. The other hand still intertwined with Noah’s behind you tightens in grip. He gives his own squeeze back, almost as a reassurance. Your mouth falls open and eyebrows twist, anticipation causing you to be entirely out of control if your own body movements. You feel him inside, yet it’s the lack of rhythmic motion that is missing.
Your hips buck forward involuntarily, something deep within you just pleading for more friction between you and Noah, and he picks up on it. He begins to drag his cock out of you, placing his free hand on the inside of your thigh, tapping it with grace as though to say ‘open more’. You do as you’re told, shifting the weight to one leg and the other swings out to make a wide gap between your legs. Noah doesn’t hesitate after that.
His shaft is hammering back into you. In and out like a jackhammer. The fingers of his free hand now sitting dangerously and teasingly close to the tight ring of muscle that sat between your asscheecks. You look at his face in the mirror; a sheen of sweat building over his face after only a minute of fucking, his brows furrowed as he stares intently at the work he is doing on your behind. Nails dig into the tender flesh of your derriere as Noah tilts his head back.
You feel the white hot glow begin to burn inside you. Noah is not taking any chances tonight, his hand leaving yours on your back to tangle with the mess of hair on your head. It was already knotted, but Noah intertwined his fingers with it, tugging with little force to bring your chin up.
Your legs were shaking at this point, and it could have been from the pleasure or the absolute hammering they were receiving. There was a growl from Noah which drowned out the hum of the tv from the other room, but you couldn’t tell what he actually said. The skin on skin slapping sounding even sloppier by the second. He was getting close, he was starting to fumble over his rhythm, but he could see that you just weren’t as close to your release as he was.
His hand leaves the tangle of your messy hair, keeping his eye contact in the mirror, and lands on the underside of your belly. You can feel him pull towards him, another silent instruction. Pushing on your arms, you felt weak. They shivered underneath you and you rose to your elbows, then up on your palms.
“More. Against me” Noah hums through a tight jaw. The pounding from behind you was starting to slow and you knew he couldn’t hold on for much longer.
With the right shift of weight, you right yourself on your knees, feeling the sweaty, warm sensation of Noah’s heaving body on your back. His arm wrapped around your chest, settling with an open palm grasping needily at your breast. He grabbed, twisted and pinched at your nipple, caressing what he could as he tried his best to focus on bringing you closer. And boy, was it working.
The new position gave you a full frontal view of what state you were in. The mirror was a portal to a world of pleasure and sex, and the only ones who lived there were you and Noah. Nothing else around you mattered. Nothing else around you even existed in this moment.
Your eyes clamp shut as the build of your orgasm was teetering at the edge, threatening to unfurl and throw sensations through your body that only Noah could achieve. There was a tightening around your neck, and as your eyes open, he land on Noah’s is tense stare from behind you.
“I said keep them open” he demanded. “I want you to watch you cum. Watch what I can do to you.”
All you can do is nod. He was never this dominant, but he must have been really ticked off. He had a point to prove, and he was delaying his own paradise just to make it know.
“You’re mine.”
“I’m yours” you whisper.
The hammering of his cock inside you, slamming deep inside of you, paired with the hand that had just dropped to your clit was the magic that brought your orgasm to its peak. There was a flood of heat that washed through you. If it wasn’t for Noah’s arms, you would have collapsed right there in front of him. Your body jerked involuntarily as Noah let you ride out the electricity. His eyes were on your face, watching as you cried out with his name, hands desperately grabbing at his arm twisted around you.
His muscles flexed as he held you up, knowing that you needed him to stay this close, but he couldn’t help but give up the fight of holding back his own orgasm. With a wet jerk of his hips, he slipped from you just in time to let the streams of hot white cum leave him, landing on the lower part of your back. You fall forward, landing with your arms by your face, and let Noah release onto you. You watch as his own eyes close, failing to follow his own rules, and then collapses beside you.
It was minutes before either of you even got your breaths back into a regular pattern. You watch Noah lay on his back, his palm resting on his forehead, and a sex-drunk smile on his face. He turns to look at you, letting out a low chuckle.
“I’d like to see Patrick’s memes beat that.”

A subtle breeze coasts down my exposed skin, leaving goosebumps in its wake. I whine, tightening my grasp and burrowing my face further against Noah in search of warmth, only to come to the realization it wasn't him I was clutching to me. I cracked open an eye, my pregnancy pillow coming into view instead of the sight of my slumbering husband.
I furrowed my brows in perplexity; I know I had fallen asleep in Noah's arms.
With a groan, I rolled as far onto my back as I could, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes before pushing myself out of bed—which was getting progressively more and more difficult as the days went by. "Noah?" I called, trudging out of our bedroom with a hand on my back. "God, it's fucking freezing," I grumbled to myself, a chill running down the length of my body the further I walked down the hall. The air conditioning was on full blast as usual, thanks to Noah.
I call his name once again, but there was still no definitive response, other than a muffled 'fuck'.
There wasn't any music playing or the faint smell of toast cascading through our home, so he wasn't in the kitchen or studio. The only other option was the nursery.
I waddled my way towards what used to be our spare bedroom, peeking through the door left ajar. I grinned to myself when I saw him hunched over a piece of paper, tiny screws laid out in front of him in neat piles. I pushed the door open gently and leaned against the doorframe, giving it a light tap to announce my entry.
"Hey you," I greet him. "Whatcha up to?" "Building the crib," he replies, clipped. I scrunched up my face at his curtness, shaking my head lightly. "I see... Been here long? I didn't even feel you get out of bed." "Couple hours. Didn't want to wake you."
I stand up straight, pulling my brows together with a small frown. I was not appreciating his tone.
I take a gander around the room, seeing he had put together the white bookshelf my mom had gifted us and the nightstand we got from Ikea. I loved seeing that things were coming together, bringing me a sense of security and joy, but I could still feel the rigidness permeating from him.
"Everything okay? You seem a little tense," I ask. He sighs harshly. "Yes, I'm fine. There's a few pieces missing, so I'm a little annoyed with that." I shuffle on my feet. "Well, we could take a break. Make some breakfast. Plus, we still need to paint the walls, so we can figure out the missing pieces afterwards—" "We?" He scoffs. "I'm the one putting all this shit together."
My mouth opens, but no words come out. I snap my mouth shut; I'm left blinking as I register the words he just said.
I ball my hands into fists as I feel anger simmering in my veins. "It's a little more difficult for me to sit on the floor and put things together, Noah." "Then maybe we should've done this sooner before it got too difficult for you," he mumbles with a roll of his shoulders. "Excuse me?" My jaw drops and my hand flies to my chest, absolutely appalled. I give him a chance to explain himself, but we're left in a tense silence as I watch him continue to fidget with a piece of the crib. "You know what? Go fuck yourself. I can't believe you just said that!" I take hold of the door knob, pulling the door towards me as I begin to make my exit. "Sorry for being eight months pregnant," I snap, then slam the door behind me.
Tears are burning my eyes as I stomp to the kitchen. From there, I don't waste a second and pull out the griddle, aggressively putting it on the counter and plugging it in to heat up. It might be hard for me to build a crib and paint the walls, but it certainly wasn't hard for me to cook breakfast for the both of us. Even if I was pissed off to no end.
After throwing several strips of bacon on the griddle, I made my way around the kitchen and grabbed everything that I needed to make pancakes with haste. I whipped together the batter as the bacon cooked, never minding the fact that Noah was now standing by the island, watching me.
"Olivia," he says my name gently, closing the distance between us. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you." "I'm cooking." I shoulder him away when he places an arm around my shoulders. I see him stiffen in my peripheral, letting his arm drop to his side. "Would you like some help?" "Nope."
We're back to a rigid silence, nothing but a quiet sizzle filling the room as I poured batter onto the griddle in perfect circles. Noah is hovering behind me, and it doesn't help alleviate the tension. Instead, I realize it was making it worse as I fisted the spatula with such aggression, my knuckles turned white. My hand even trembled a little bit while I watched the pancakes start to rise, speckled with tiny bubbles.
"You're gonna burn them—" I grit my teeth. "I know," I grumbled, flipping them harshly one by one. I knew they would burn if I let them cook any longer, he didn't need to tell me. He sighs, sidling up behind me and placing a hand on my waist. "I'm just trying to help, love—" "You can help by parking your ass at the table and leaving me be." I feel him flinch and slowly retract his hand before he returns to the island, where I hear him take a seat on one of the stools.
Minutes pass; I take the pancakes off the heat and split them between two plates. I had already laid the strips of bacon on paper towels to soak up the excess grease before serving Noah the chewier pieces, and me the crispier.
I may be done cooking breakfast, but I was certainly still stewing in aggravation as I grabbed the bottle of syrup and slide his plate in front of him. I glance at the sullen look on his face before I turned and retrieved my own plate, sitting across from him. He thanks me in a quiet voice, but he doesn't so much as move a muscle while I dig into my breakfast.
"Olivia, I'm sorry," he tries again. "I was just frustrated, I shouldn't have taken it out on you and said that." I picked up a piece of bacon, avoiding his gaze. "Yeah, you shouldn't have." I shrug and take a bite of the bacon, savoring the hint of applewood as I chewed, and he sighs. "You gonna eat?" "I'm not all that hungry."
I rolled my eyes and shook my head lightly in annoyance, finishing the strip of bacon in hand before picking up my fork and digging into one of the pancakes.
"You know, that's how I felt when I spent hours putting those things together, just for you to come in and tell me we still had to paint the walls, Liv." "Seriously, Noah?" In an instant, the anger flared up again and I finally brought my eyes to him, shooting daggers in his direction. I slammed my fork on the table, his untouched silverware rattling from the aggression. "Why are you being such a dick?" He pressed his lips into a line as he leered at me, his eyes bouncing between mine while the tension between us was once again pulled taut. "Forget it," I grumbled, standing abruptly from my seat.
I picked up my plate and brought it to the sink, practically tossing it onto the counter, and turned to make my way back to the bedroom. I brushed past Noah with tears in my eyes and he calls my name, but I ignore him and continue down the hall. My throat burned as I tried not to cry.
It was like a flip of a switch with him, and I didn't understand it. Yesterday he was so kind, gentle, and helpful during the entire shower. He helped set up the event, helped me open gifts, cut and served the cake and other food, put everything away—hell, he barely let me lift a finger. But this morning? He made me feel like absolute garbage for not being able to do these things. I can't lift more than 10 pounds, I can't sit on the floor for very long and put together furniture, I can't paint the walls by myself.
I took a seat on the edge of the bed, my cheeks burning hot as tears rolled down them. Noah comes in shortly after and crouches in front of me, taking my hands in his with a gentle squeeze. He says my name quietly and I bring my eyes up to his face, which screamed nothing but remorse with a definitive crease between his brows and a heavy frown.
"I'm so sorry," he whispers. "Please don't cry." "Why are you so... flippant this morning?" I mumbled, struggling to find the right word. My lips quiver and he lets go of one of my hands to cup my cheek, his thumb swiping the trail of tears dry. "I don't mean to be," he sighs, shaking his head. "I'm just stressed." "So, you take it out on me instead of talking to me about it? Yesterday you were fine, and now... this," I motioned between us. "Did something happen?" "No, not exactly..." he trails off. I shake my head, not understanding. "Then what?"
He remains silent, his Adam's apple bobbing as he swallows. He licks his bottom lip before biting it lightly, most likely mulling over his words before he cradles the back of my head and presses his lips to my forehead.
"I didn't want to upset you by telling you I was nervous about having the baby." He's kneading his fingers in the back of my head as he says this, his eyes heavy with concern, begging for forgiveness. "And don't think that means I'm not excited to have him, I'm just... I'm in my head, you know? It's a lot and I'm worried that... that I'm not ready or that I won't be a good dad." I felt my heart sink hearing his words, my whole jaw trembling trying to hold my emotions back. "W-why didn't you say anything before, Noah?" I sobbed, shaking my head as fresh tears spilled down my cheeks.
"Because it didn't hit me until yesterday," he tells me, squeezing my hand. "Seeing all the gifts, seeing how excited everyone was for his arrival, knowing you're nearly 9 months pregnant. It hit me all at once. We have so many things to put away, so many things to do for the nursery; it freaked me out." I lock eyes with him, his chocolate irises glistening with sincerity. "And you know how I get when I have a task on hand—I don't stop until it's finished. Til everything is perfect. I just want everything to be perfect for you and him." He cups my face with both hands, once again trying to dry my tears with his thumbs. "Okay? I'm sorry for being an ass, from the bottom of my heart."
I nod shallowly in his hands, and he brandishes a soft smile before pressing his lips to mine delicately. I let out a single cry against his mouth and cling onto his shirt, melting into him shortly after, and we stayed like this until neither of us could breathe.
Though him saying he wanted everything to be perfect was reassuring, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't the least bit worried about what comes after childbirth. The irritability from lack of sleep, and the arguments that would ensue from it. The disagreements, the crying, the screaming. Things won't be perfect, and that's what scares me—what if he gets sick and tired of trying to make things 'perfect' and leaves?
"Come on," he breaks through my thoughts. "Let's finish breakfast, cuz I know you're hungry," he chuckles, and I huff a quiet laugh. "Then we can set up the room to start painting the walls. How's that sound?" "But what about the things you already put together?" "I'll move everything to the center and put a tarp over it. We have to put one down over the rug, anyways."
I nod with a quiet 'okay' and he gives me another reassuring kiss before standing, pulling me to my feet. He takes my hand in his, bringing me back to the kitchen where we finished our now cold breakfast before he left to set up the nursery for painting.
In the meantime, I cleaned up the kitchen and changed into clothes that I didn't necessarily care if they got ruined or not. I threw my hair up into a messy bun and made my way into the baby's room, seeing Noah had finished the task of tarping everything and covering the trim in painter's tape. He was now beginning to pour paint into the pans.
"Ready to get painting?" he asks after putting the lid back on the can. He stands, picking up one of the rollers and attaching it to an extension pole before handing it to me. "I figure it would be easier for you, not having to bend or reach as much. I'll get the nooks and crannies when we get there," he winks, holding up a wide, angled brush. "Thanks," I chuckle. "Let's get this party started," I say, glancing around the area to survey where to begin. I dip the roller into the pan, coating it in the sky blue color we picked out, and started with the wall opposite of the door.
The idea of painting was a lot easier said than done. It wasn't all that bad at first, just a little burn in my arms from extending them time and time again, but after a while, my back started to ache quite a bit. I was breaking a sweat, and was even a little winded, but still, I pushed on through it, knowing this had to get done—I couldn't let Noah do it all himself, considering our little tiff from earlier.
We had just started the third wall when I couldn't handle the back pain anymore, which was beginning to spread to my abdomen. I set the roller down gently and excused myself, making my way to our bedroom where I lay down, hoping to alleviate some of the ache. It doesn't take long for Noah to follow me in, a look of concern spread on his face as he closes the gap between us.
"You okay, love?" he asks, brushing my bangs back to press a kiss to my forehead. "Yeah," I let out an exasperated sigh, my face scrunching from the uncomfortability. "My back hurts. I just need to rest for a minute and I'll be back to help finish painting." He frowns. "I'll finish it up, I don't want you over-doing anything. Sit tight, I'll grab you some water, okay?" "But—" "I mean it." He shoots me a pointed look before exiting our bedroom.
I huff with defeat, settling against the pillows with an arm draped over my face, my other hand cradling my belly where the twinge of pain remained. My muscles tighten briefly, and I let out a quiet groan just as Noah reenters the room. I move my arm away from my face and take the glass of water he offered, thanking him before taking a few tiny sips and putting it down on the nightstand.
"You doing okay?" "Yeah," I nod lazily. "It's going away. I just needed to rest for a minute," I reassure him. He pulls his lips to the side, a look of doubt strewn across his face as he places his hand on my bump, rubbing slow circles against it. "Alright, if you say so. I don't want you painting anymore though, okay?" "Noah, please, I'm fi—" My face contorts and I let out a hiss. "It's just a cramp," I tell him through gritted teeth. "Liv," he says my name warily. "You don't think you're going into labor, do you?"
My heart jumps into my throat, my eyes flashing to Noah's as panic starts to creep in. I can't be going into labor; I still had 5 weeks left to go.

Chapter 1/?
× Elysium (noun) : a place or condition of ideal happiness. type of: fictitious place, imaginary place, mythical place.
Word Count: 4.1k
An introduction of sorts.
A Noah Sebastian x OC Series
× Summary: Noah and his new found (sort of) friend, Persephone, battle the trivial ins and outs of being teenagers in a world that doesn't accept you. They survive together all the way into adulthood - with bouts of loneliness included - where the world is still a fickle bitch.
× Warnings!: language, violence, slowburn, friends to lovers to enemies back to friends, rinse and repeat (not even in that order), eventual smut, sexual themes, etc. Each chapter will have its own set of separate warnings.
× Author Notes: ( 1 ) Any time within the story before 2016, Persephone is still a minor, therefor sexual mentions will be kept brief and to a minimum. Nothing crude will be mentioned in a descriptive manner until she is 18+ in the story. ( 2 ) Piggybacking off of that, Noah is only two years older than her. ( 3 ) Since most personal facts about the guys are not widely known, I will be adding my own background info to them, as well as switching up/deleting real life facts we may already be aware of.
× Chapter Warnings!: language, brief sexual themes
SUMMER OF 2014
SUNDAY JUNE 22nd
PERSEPHONE
Summers in Virginia could be brutal, but this one in particular felt especially heinous. The sun was a vile orb that beat down on her skin, leaving it hot to the touch and also faintly shining with perspiration. Typically she loved the sun and the way it would make her feel, but today? Well, not so much. Despite this, she tried her best to ignore her own minuscule issues and instead focus on the words being spoken to not only her, but also the friends she surrounded herself with. They all sat around one of the outside tables at Ruffilo’s, a casual diner-like restaurant they enjoyed frequenting in the afternoons. The food was decent, and it was also one of the only establishments that wouldn't kick out teenagers who lingered too long.
“Seph? Earth to, Seph! Come in, Seph!”
“Huh?” She was quick to snap out of her little daze, her head turning towards the voice echoing her name. Maisie Linwood, her best friend since first grade, stared back at her with an arched brow and an annoyed expression. One thing to know about Maisie, she could out bitch anyone with just a cut of her eyes. Persephone figured that's probably who she picked up the same habit from years ago.
“Sorry, it's just really hot out here.” A hand was then shoved into her now empty glass to retrieve a piece of ice, that of which she began to drag along the back of her neck.
Ahhh, yes, that was nice.
“Okay, well, I need you to, like, be here with us. We're trying to figure out the details of Mason’s birthday.”
Mason being Maisie’s twin brother, and this was quite obvious when you were to look at them. Same eyes, same nose, same little beauty mark right off to the side of their cheek. Same godforsaken ‘better than thou’ attitude. And yes, they were fully aware of how horrible being named Maise and Mason was.
“Oh, right, I won't be able to go. I told you that. My parents are making me go with them to the lake that weekend.”
The ice continued to drag along her overheated skin, now shifting to the front of her neck and down her chest. Could she at least get a breeze or something? Fuck.
“Or…you can tell them you don't want to and then we can have the party at your place.” Maisie challenged with a smug smirk, as if daring anyone to tell her otherwise. “Your house does have the best pool.”
There it was. Maisie’s way of getting the things she wanted by catering to people’s egos. She wanted to say that it never worked on her, but then she would be lying.
“What the fuck are you staring at, freak? Are you seriously checkin’ out my girl?”
Thankfully, the topic was abruptly changed by Mason’s sudden outburst of anger. By the way, she was dating Mason. Kind of. It wasn't technically official…but whatever. Honestly, she didn't care one way or the other.
“I…uh…no! I was just-”
Seph squinted from the bright glare of the sun off the side of the restaurant when she turned to see what all the fuss was about. She could make out the tall figure of the guy who had been serving them, a dumbfounded look currently overtaking his narrow features. It seemed as if she wasn't the only one surprised by Mason’s show of aggression.
“Wait, what's happening?” She sat forward a bit, a hand lifting to shield over her eyes to get a better look at the commotion. Mason was now standing a couple of feet from the guy, obviously ready to go if the moment called for it. Seph could only heavily sigh, eyes rolling at his embarrassing and rather annoying reaction to…whatever had happened. That was something she still hadn't caught.
“Scrawny little freak here was just staring at you, Seph. Watching you with that fucking ice!”
Ah, so that's what the problem was? Seriously?
“I was just coming out to get the glass for a refill…” he tried to defend, but there was no knocking any sense into Mason when he got started. Just another trait him and Maisie shared, and one that she truly disliked.
“Leave him alone, Mason. Can you just let him do his job?”
Her intrusion of the conversation had given the guy a spare moment to scurry away, jaw clenched and head shaking as he did. She felt bad for him because she knew how aggravating it could be to be on the receiving end of Mason’s teenage rage, even more so when it came to his possessive nature over something that wasn't his.
“You're really going to defend him, Seph?”
Mason was now looking at her, hands thrown out to his sides in a stance of disbelief. She merely shrugged, giving him a ‘who cares?’ look before settling back in her seat. It didn't seem as if he was as capable of dropping the topic as she was, so he continued to stand there…just staring in anger. She could almost see the fumes radiating off his head like he was a furious little cartoon character.
Hilarious.
With a heavy sigh, Seph snatched her glass from the table and stood up, free hand simultaneously adjusting the hem of her shorts. “I'm going to get my refill and no, I don't need your help.” She spat at Mason, earning a scoff from Maisie and another girl within their friend group. It didn't bother her in the slightest.
Inside Ruffilo’s was at least twenty degrees cooler, and it felt so nice that she actually sighed in relief. The lack of sun now beating down on her had given her the opportunity to clear the haze from her mind and really take note of the situation. She realized that she recognized the guy as she approached the counter…but from where? With his back to her, Seph began to silently rack her brain. He was talking in hushed tones to another guy that appeared to be about the same age, but shorter and with darker hair. Something was telling her that it was his family who owned the restaurant, though she wasn’t entirely sure as to how she knew that.
The shorter guy looked at her from over the other guy’s shoulder, quickly nodding in her direction to signal her presence to him. As he turned, she adjusted her attention and their eyes locked with ease.
“Hey…” she softly spoke, a slight smile pulling at her lips. “I'm sorry about Mason…he can be a real dick sometimes.”
“Yeah…I kind of gathered that.”
Seph slowly nodded, unsure of what to say now. She tore her gaze from his, allowing it to fall down to the glass she still held. Did she even want a refill? Or had this been some ploy against herself to give the guy an apology?
The clearing of his throat garnered her attention again, and she looked up just in time to see him motioning towards the glass. “Did you want a refill?”
Once more nodding, she pulled the straw from the glass before extending it out to him. Her arms crossed over her chest now, the end of the straw being held to her lips for her to absentmindedly chew on as she waited. Seph could feel eyes on her, the weight of them rather obvious. Glancing up, she noticed the other guy eying her, as if trying to size her up.
Where did she know them from?
Then, like a light switch being turned on, it finally clicked.
“Noah,” she pointed the end of her straw to the taller guy, nodding. “We used to go to school together, right?”
It was all finally starting to come back to her. She knew she had recognized him from somewhere, though putting her finger on it took longer than she would've thought. Seph had left their public high school after freshmen year, her parents instead deciding to enroll her into a new private school that had been built. ‘It’s where all your friends will be going' they tried to explain to her, like she really needed convincing when she knew she didn't have a choice in the matter to begin with.
“Uh, yeah, I think I was a year ahead of you.”
Noah nodded as he passed her now full glass of water back her way, fresh ice included. He opened his mouth to say something else, but was quickly cut off by the other guy.
“Two years…we were two years ahead of her.”
“Dude…” Noah sighed, giving his friend a look that she wasn't quite sure how to explain.
Persephone softly chuckled, brows raised while looking back and forth between the two guys. As much as she wanted to stand there within the air conditioning, watching the two of them bicker, she knew she couldn't linger for much longer. It was only a matter of time before one of her friends came looking for her and the last thing she wanted was for another scene to break out.
“Okay, well, I'm going to go and leave you guys to it.” She took a sip from her water, though her smile lingered. “Sorry again about…”
Noah shook his head, waving it off in a nonchalant manner. “Dicks will forever be dicks.”
“I'll see you around, yeah?” After taking a couple of steps backwards, Seph then turned on her heel to make a beeline for the side door she had previously entered from.
“I'm Nick, by the way!”
Another laugh easily flowed from her, a hand lifting to wave back. “Bye, Nick!”
NOAH
“Persephone Hill, Noah? Really?”
“What?”
“Dude, she's like fucking royalty of Richmond. Her dad is some big real estate guy, owns half the buildings on this street alone.”
“And?” Noah looked to his best friend after having passed a receipt to another patron of the restaurant and wishing them a good day. “Just because her dad is some big shot, that means I can't talk to her?”
“No, but it does mean you can't fucking ogle her goodies out in public.”
He grimaced at Nick’s choice of words but tried his best to laugh it off, head shaking. “I wasn't…doing that!” Noah tossed the balled up unwanted receipt at Nick with enough force that it hit him square in the forehead, but bounced off to roll along the floor. “Who the hell says it like that anyway?”
Okay, maybe he had been doing that. Who could blame him, though? He took in a sharp breath as he tried to think of anything but the way the melted ice had dripped down her neck, getting lost behind her tank top as it slid into her cleavage. Fuck. Noah did a discreet tug of his jeans when the memory caused a stirring within, instead opting to focus on the hot plates of food that were being slid his way for distribution to tables.
“I'm just saying, okay? My dad had done business with him a couple of years back and said he's a major asshole. Never say I didn't warn you.”
THURSDAY JUNE 26th
PERSEPHONE
“You look like you could use a sugar rush.”
A set of long fingers set down a stereotypical milkshake glass in front of her, the contents of it a deep pink color. Her brows furrowed in slight confusion for a split second, before she finally looked up to see Noah standing there. He appeared to be just as tired as she felt, though she decided to not call him out for it. Instead, she offered a slight smile of appreciation.
“How could you tell?” She joked while ripping the paper from the straw before shoving it into the milkshake. “And how did you know strawberry was my favorite?”
“Well, you see…” he rubbed at the back of his neck after glancing at where Nick stood behind the counter. “Nick used all the chocolate syrup earlier for some little kids, so I couldn't do chocolate. Vanilla seemed too basic, which left strawberry as the only option. I guess you could say…I just got lucky?”
Seph gave him a single thumbs up, her mouth now occupied with the sugary treat she was happily sipping. “This might just be the pick-me-up I needed to get through this work, so thanks.”
“Yeah, I thought it was kind of late for you to be here.”
“Shit, sorry. Are you guys about to close? I can totally pack things up if so.” She licked over her lips to rid them of any milkshake remnants before she began to reach for her things. Noah held his hands out, motioning for her to stop, chuckling to himself as he did.
“You're good, you're good. I promise. Still got about an hour.”
That was when Nick came sauntering over, a basket of fries in his hand that he was digging through. He leaned against the side of the booth, bright eyes glancing back and forth between herself and Noah.
“It typically dies down around eight on weekdays, so there isn't shit to do for a bit.” Nick then nodded towards the math equations she had written out on her notebook, still chomping away at his fries. “Calculus? Wouldn't a library be better for homework?”
Noah sighed, an elbow angling out just a bit to nudge at his friend. Again the two shared a silent look, almost like they were having a conversation within their minds that she wasn't privy to.
“You would think, but the private rooms are always booked and most people don't know that you're supposed to be quiet in libraries. Shocking, right?”
“I bet your house has a grand ol' study area.”
What was Nick getting at? She couldn't really tell if he was genuinely asking or if he was somehow mocking her in his own sly way. Considering Noah's silence, Seph was going to assume it was the latter.
“Uh…” her hands rubbed along the top of her thighs, eyes glancing along her math work that was all beginning to jumble together. “It's too quiet there…makes it just as hard to focus.”
Also, the change of scenery was nice. She was tired of seeing the same walls everyday in her house, and trying to study at any of her friends’ homes would've been just as impossible.  They would've become too distracted with gossip and mindless chatter.
“Hey, Nick,” she began as the end of her pencil lightly tapped against her notebook. “Can I get an order of fries too? Thanks.” If he wanted to throw a bit of mockery her way, then she would gladly do the same with her own style of attitude. The bittersweet kind where she was smiling, but her words held a slight hint of venom. Nick paused, his chewing beginning to slow as they merely stared at one another. Without another word, he nodded, and then went off to get her order prepared.
“He's sensitive, you know,” Noah joked, pointing in the direction his friend had wandered off.
“Oh, I'm sure he can manage to get what he gives.”
Persephone adjusted the pencil in her hand, now beginning to continue her work. She didn't know why she was even attempting to because there was no way she’d be able to focus. Her attention span had run out at least an hour ago, and not even a strawberry milkshake could bring it back. As she pretended to work, Noah was doing the same. He began to clean the tables in her surrounding area, his lanky tattooed arms drawing her attention in ways she never thought possible. Seph remained silent, though she found herself watching him. Why? She had no idea. Noah was far from her type, or at least what she assumed her type was, but it wasn't like she was interested to begin with. Maybe he would make a decent friendly acquaintance — someone she could say ‘hi’ to on the street in passing.
“Did those hurt?” Seph motioned with her pencil to his arm, his tattoos being the topic of her curiosity.
Noah glanced to the limb, his shoulders shrugging nonchalantly. “Nah, not too bad. Nothing I wouldn't be able to handle again.”
She slowly nodded, the end of her pencil now tucked between her teeth. She continued to allow her gaze to travel along the designs before taking in a deep breath and lowering her attention back down to her dreaded calculus. Ugh, this was almost like she was torturing herself.
“Do you have any?”
“Hm?” Seph glanced up through her lashes at him.
“Tattoos. Do you have any?”
This inquiry caused her to snort out a laugh, now fully looking across at Noah in disbelief. He must not know anything about her family, and she was actually thankful for this. It was so annoying to have to talk to people who thought they already knew everything about you, when really, they knew nothing.
“No,” she finally replied, shaking her head. “My parents are very old school. They said that my body is a temple and if I desecrate it in any way then I'm not allowed my trust fund or inheritance.”
“Well…shit. That's brutal.”
Persephone shrugged, the notebook before her now being closed since she figured she wasn't going to be getting any more work done. Not that she was complaining. “Yeah, it's a little fucked. I mean, my mom won't even let me have more than two holes in my ears.”
“Sounds like some high standards to live up to.”
Noah's words caught her a little off guard. Her lips pursed as she carefully slipped her belongings into her bag, situating everything just right so they'd sit correctly. She didn't say anything in regards to the statement, mostly because she wasn't sure how to respond, but also because Nick had dropped the basket of fries in front of her. Persephone flashed him a wide grin, her fingers picking up one of the crispy fries to bite the end off.
“You're a peach, truly.”
FRIDAY JULY 4th
NOAH
This was not how he saw the night going. It had been change up after change up, until his plans had been ruined and he was forced to work another shift at Ruffilo’s. He didn't complain, though, at least not to anyone but himself. The last thing he wanted was to seem ungrateful for what Nick’s family had done for him, and what they continued to do everyday. He knew you'd never find another family as giving as Nick’s, so he did all he could to help them out, even if it meant canceling his plans. Nick offered to work with him, but Noah refused. It wasn't going to be busy since they didn't serve alcohol, so with it being Independence Day, the majority of Richmond would be out at the fireworks and then partying with a beer. Just as their forefathers would've wanted.
And just as he had predicted, it was dead by seven that night. Fireworks started around eight, waiting just long enough for the sky to get mostly dark. Noah could see the flashes of light from over the buildings, which he stood and stared at for much longer than anticipated. There was a pressure building within his chest, though. He could feel his hands becoming clammy and the rapid beating of his heart picking up more and more. He had to force himself to look away from the fireworks and start doing something else — anything to occupy his mind. Ever since the accident, bright lights and loud noises had been a trigger for him. He was working through it with his therapist weekly, but the progression was slow. Much slower than he would've liked.
Phone in hand, Noah stood in the kitchen of the restaurant, now mindlessly scrolling through Instagram. It helped calm his mind to see senseless things that people posted on their socials, and the things he was interested in, did well as a distraction. There was one distraction in particular he hadn't seen coming, though. Only a day or so previous, Persephone had insisted they follow each other. She had thousands of followers, while he only had a couple hundred, so he figured it was no big deal. Maybe she liked having a huge audience studying and judging her social life. But because of their mutual following, he was now graced with her presence on his Instagram timeline.
Noah swallowed as he came across the picture. She appeared happy, wearing a wide smile that took up most of her face, clad in the typical red, white, and blue colors for this particular holiday. In her hands, she held sparklers, both of which were situated up towards the sky with the pose she took in front of a pool. Others were seen behind her, one of which he recognized as Mason, the asshole from before. This was when Noah closed out of the app, his phone then being tucked away in his back pocket.
The next couple of hours went by rather slowly. He had maybe three patrons come in, but none that lingered for longer than necessary. Still, he took his time cleaning up and closing, even opting to tell the cook he could leave and he’d finish up. Nick had called him a couple of times, the voices of their friends obvious in the background, and he of course promised to drop by once he was off. Despite this, he didn't rush. After his near panic attack earlier, Noah just wanted to go home and lay in bed.
Unfortunately, he would have to wait a bit longer before being able to.
It was nearly eleven when he heard knocking on the front door of the restaurant. All the lights were off except those over the kitchen, so he had no idea why someone would think they were open. Did that stop him from poking his head out to see who it was? No. And this is why people die in horror movies. He was a walking cliché.
There was another knock, this one slightly louder than the last. Heavily sighing, Noah took a couple of slow steps towards the kitchen opening that led out into the main area, his upper body leaning over just enough for him to see straight forward. Standing outside was a rather familiar shape, the white dress being the first thing that caught his eye. He remembered it from his Instagram scroll hours prior.
Seph?
Noah rushed towards the front and wasted no time in unlocking the door for her, which he then held open. In walked the young blonde, her arms hugging herself. She no longer wore the smile from the picture earlier, but instead her cheeks were stained with glittery tears due to the festive makeup she had applied.
“Shit, Noah, I'm sorry. I- I didn't know where else to go or who I could talk to and I just- I saw your car and-”
Shaking his head, he placed his hands on her shoulders in an attempt to soothe and calm her ramblings. She tried a deep breath, but the hiccups from her tears prevented her from fully doing so.
“Hey, no, it's okay. What's wrong? What happened?”
The fact that Persephone had come to him was shocking, to say the least. Were they friends? He wasn't sure if he would label them as such, but maybe it was different for her. They did have long conversations every time she came to the diner, which just so happened to be picking up in frequency ever since the ice incident.
“Mason and I…we got into a fight…” she sniffed, further fighting back her tears just so she could properly breathe.
What was it about this asshole type that girls seemed to flock to? He would never understand it.
“He, um…he was just really mean, yeah? He blew up at me…caused this huge scene in front of everyone. It was so fucking embarrassing.”
Noah could tell she was holding something back, but he wasn't going to pry. If Seph didn't want to tell him the full story, then she didn't have to. Either way, he would be there for her as much as she would allow.
Nodding, his thumbs rubbed slowly along the bare skin of her shoulders that he still grasped. He eventually led her to a booth and brought her a glass of water, giving her as much time as she needed to gather herself. Although he wanted to know what actually happened, he knew this wasn't the time for it.
“Are you okay?” Noah finally asked after a few minutes. Her tears had ceased, but he noticed how she was still absentmindedly scratching at the side of her thigh. He knew an anxiety tick when he saw one. After all, he had plenty of his own.
Without answering, Seph finally looked at him. “Would you be able to take me home? Please?”

Tangled hearts
Pairings: Noah Sebastian x reader Warnings: none Notes: I have nothing interesting to say, I was listening to 'Heather' lol + i was thinking about Sons Of Anarchy Jax while writing this, pls keep that in mind x
Tumblr media
You were walking next to Noah to your local pub, feeling a mix of emotions swirling inside you like a whirlpool. You'd been best friends with Noah for as long as you can remember, sharing laughs, tears, heartbreak, happiness and everything in between. But there was this secret, this feeling you kept hidden deep down—a kind of love that felt too risky to admit, scared it might ruin your friendship.
As you arrived at your local pub, the familiar sights and sounds washed over you as you settled in your usual spot. Noah plopped down beside you, his smile lighting up the room. It was a routine, almost, Noah snagging the seat next to you without fail. If he didn't, well, he'd sulk like a kid missing their favorite toy.
"So, what's the plan for tonight?" Noah asked, his eyes sparkling as he leaned in closer.
"I was thinking we could start with a game of pool," you suggested.
"Sounds like a plan," he replied, his tone light and playful. "But you know I'm going to beat you at pool, right?"
You laughed. “We'll see about that," you teased, your heart swelling with love for your best friend. "Besides, if you beat me, I might have to find a handsome stranger to console me."
There was a pause, a flicker in Noah's eyes that caught your attention. His smile wavered, his gaze shifting.
"Really?" Noah's asked, arching his brow.
You shrugged. "Who knows?" you said with a playful wink. "I might just sweep some unsuspecting guy off his feet with my killer pool skills."
Noah's expression darkened. “Mh, okay.” he muttered.
You furrowed your brow, caught off guard by the sudden change in Noah's demeanor. "Are you okay?" you asked, concern coloring your tone.
Noah forced a smile, avoiding your gaze. "Yeah, I'm fine," he insisted, his tone not quite convincing.
Lost in your thoughts, you attempted to immerse yourself in conversation with your other friends, hoping to distract yourself. But then, like a sudden gust of wind disrupting the peace, the door swung open almost with a theatrical flair, like those damn Hollywood movies, and just the most beautiful girl stepped inside.
Your heart skipped a beat as she made her way across the room, her presence along drawing the attention of everyone around her. Your gaze followed her, unable to tear away as she approached Noah, her smile as bright as the stars.
And then, like a dagger to your heart, Noah turned towards you and the rest of your group, his eyes lit up with genuine joy. "I want you to meet someone special," he said, his voice filled with excitement.
"This is Heather," he introduced, his gaze never leaving your face. "My girlfriend."
The words hung in the air like a heavy shroud, suffocating you with their weight. You forced a smile, your heart breaking with each syllable that escaped Noah's lips. Who the fuck is she and where did she came from? Since when has Noah a girlfriend?
"It's lovely to meet you, Heather," you said with the sweetest smile.
Heather smiled warmly. "Likewise! Noah's told me so much about you," she said, her voice a gentle melody in the chaos of your thoughts.
As Noah and Heather chatted with the others, you felt yourself drifting further away.
Nicholas squeezed your hand, his silent support a lifeline. "Are you okay?" he whispered.
“Of course, why wouldn’t I be?” you whispered back as casually as you could sound.
You watched as Noah and Heather sat down hand in hand, unable to suppress the ache in your heart.
Feeling overwhelmed, you excused yourself to go to the restroom, Juno, your best friend, offering to come with you. As soon as the door closed behind you, the tears just came streaming down, and you collapsed against the wall, also like a fucking Hollywood movie.
Juno wrapped her arms around you, holding you tight as you sobbed. Juno knew about your feelings towards Noah.
"I don't know what to do, Juno," you whispered between sobs. "Noah, he... he's always so flirty with me, always acting strange when I mention other guys, always so touchy and needy and then he pulls this stunt? Since when is he dating a girl named Heather?”
Juno's grip tightened around you, her own confusion evident in her silence for a moment. "I wish I had the answers for you, Y/N," she finally said. "But I don’t, I’m sorry, men are trash."
Her unexpected comment caught you off guard, and despite feeling heavy, a little laugh came out. It was a moment of relief in the middle of all the chaos.
You nodded, tears still running down your face. Despite feeling sad and insecure because Heather was the most stunning girl you’ve had ever seen, you knew you had to act tough.
Standing up straight, you wiped away your tears. "No man is going to make me cry today," you declared. "I'm not going to let Noah ruin my night. I'm here to have fun, and that's exactly what I'm going to do."
As the night rolled on and the drinks kept coming, you did your best to ignore Noah and Heather. But for some reason, Heather seemed dead set on getting to know you, constantly interrupting your conversations with her silly questions. You just wished she'd leave you alone with her pretty eyes, perfect nose, and flawless skin.
Despite your efforts to be friendly, you kept your interactions with her short. Not really in the mood to mingle with her, even though nothing was her fault actually. It’s not like she had any say in how God chose her to be his favourite. You asked Noah to play a game of pool, but suddenly he wasn't interested anymore, only eyes for Heather. So, you did what you knew best: flee the situation and find that handsome stranger to console you.
If Noah could bring along his girlfriend, you figured you could find some fun for the night too, right?
Juno was by your side, the ultimate wing woman. It being a Friday night, the pub was crowded with people. It didn't take long for Juno and you to approach a couple of guys for a game of pool. You played the part of a clueless girl, pretending you didn't know how to play, so the tall, blonde haired stranger would offer his help, just like in the movies, again.
As you engaged in the game, bantering back and forth, the tension between you and the stranger grew stronger. With a playful smirk, he leaned in closer, his eyes locking with yours. "You know, for someone who claims not to know how to play, you're doing pretty well," he smiled.
You chuckled softly, feeling a flutter in your chest. "Beginner's luck, I suppose," you replied. "But who knows, maybe you could teach me a thing or two?"
A spark of interest igniting in his eyes. "I'd be happy to give you a few pointers," he said flirty. "But only if you promise to give me a chance to win you over with more than just pool skills."
You leaned in closer, your voice dropping to a whisper. "Well, in that case, consider me intrigued," you said, a smile playing at your lips. "Lead the way, pool master."
“I am Jax by the way” he said as he flashed a smile. “Y/N, nice to meet you.”
Noah watched as you interacted with that douche, sharing laughs and exchanging glances, and couldn't shake the unsettling feeling in the pit of his stomach. His discontent grew more apparent by the minute.
Finally, unable to contain his annoyance any longer, Noah started bitching to Nicholas. "Can you believe Y/N right now?" he asked sharply. "She's completely ignoring me for that guy. It's like she doesn't even care that I'm here. I mean us, I thought it was a friends night out.”
Nicholas raised an eyebrow, looking at Noah with a hint of amusement. "Maybe she's just having fun," he suggested.
But Noah shook his head, his frustration evident. "It's not just that," he continued, growing more agitated. "That guy she's with, he's not good enough for her. And he clearly doesn't have a clue what she wants.”
“And you know what Y/N wants? Are you’re the Y/N expert?” he laughs.
Without hesitation, Noah replied firmly, "Yes, of course I do. And it's not that guy." His tone left no room for doubt.
Nicholas listened carefully as Noah complained further. "Are you jealous?" Nicholas asked, even though he already knew the answer.
Noah's expression darkened, his jaw tensing as he struggled to contain his emotions. "Why would I be jealous?" he replied defensively. "I've got Heather, remember?"
But Nicholas could tell that Noah wasn't being completely honest. It was clear that Noah's true feelings for you were far more complicated than he was willing to admit.
As you chatted with Jax during the game, seeing Noah and Heather being all lovey-dovey in the corner made you feel a bit jealous, well this was maybe an understatement. They looked so cozy together, like they belonged with each other. It made you want to puke, want to pull your hair out but it also made you wish you were Heather as well. You just wanted to smash her pretty, little face into a wall. So, yeah, you were only a bit jealous.
"So, how did you end up here tonight?" Jax asked, flashing you a friendly smile as he lined up his shot.
“Nothing special, just hanging out with some friends.” You replied nonchalantly.
Jax chuckled, leaning against the pool table. "Same here. Thought I'd come out and see what the night had in store. And I must say, meeting someone as intriguing as you was definitely unexpected."
You felt a blush creeping up your cheeks at his compliment. "Flattery will get you everywhere," you teased, taking your turn at the pool table.
As the game continued, the conversation flowed effortlessly between you and Jax. But you couldn't stop thinking about Noah and Heather. Feeling jealous like that was weird for you, and it made you feel like like you weren’t good enough.
But before you knew it, the game had ended, but the tension between you and Jax grew strong. With a shy smile, you found yourself blurting out, "Do you maybe want to go for some fresh air?”
You knew you were acting out of spite and jealousy, but Jax was a cute guy, so no harm, right?
Jax's eyes lit up with excitement, mirroring your own. "I'd love to," he replied eagerly. "Lead the way." mimicking your words from earlier.
You motioned for Juno, to let her know you were okay as you and Jax made your way out of the bustling pub.
Meanwhile, Noah's mood was shifting from bad to worse as he watched you leaving with Jax. His face turned red with anger, and he clenched his fists, fuming silently. Nicholas noticed Noah's frustration and tried to calm him down.
“Are you okay, man?” Nicholas asked.
Noah waved him off, trying to play it cool. "It's nothing, just being protective, you know? Y/N's my best friend, and I just want to make sure she's okay," he said, but his words rang hollow, even to himself.
And to make matters worse, Heather was up his ass as well now. Heather, who had been observing the situation all night, couldn't hold back her frustration any longer. She wasn't a fool. Noah was always talking about you. About how funny you were, how kind you were, even how beautiful you were. That's why Heather wanted to get to know you tonight, to scout the competition.
"Noah, ever since Y/N went to talk with that guy, you've been acting weird," she said, her voice tinged with annoyance.
Noah's facade cracked, his frustration boiling over. "Why are you acting jealous all of a sudden? Y/N’s just my best friend," he snapped.
Heather's eyes widened in shock, hurt flashing across her face. "Excuse me?" her voice rising in anger. “I’m the one acting jealous? You're the one with a girlfriend, yet you're acting like a possessive boyfriend over another girl. Maybe you should figure out what you really want before pointing fingers at me!”
"No, no, it's not like that," Noah tried to backtrack, but his words only seemed to further fuel Heather's anger.
"What do you mean it's not like that? It’s exactly like that!” Heather yelled, her voice sharp with frustration.
Heather stood up in a hurry, grabbing her jacket from the chair. "Call me when you made up your mind about what you want, I don't have time for this." she said firmly before storming out of the pub.
Noah watched her go, his jaw clenched in stubborn silence. He made no move to follow her, his gaze followin her to the door where he spotted you standing outside. The sight of you and the stranger chatting outside only seemed to add fuel to the fire of Noah's already simmering emotions. A mixture of jealousy and frustration swirling within him.
He didn't know what to do, so he just stayed where he was. He didn't chase after Heather, and he didn't approach you either. He just stood there, watching, feeling lost.
To be continued.

There’s a way of bonding that people do when they just sit in the same room without interacting. Two people, just minding their business, but that’s quality time. There’s a word for it…Parallel Play. Yes. That’s what Noah and I did. It was a lot, really. Between his video games, my reading, and the cacophony of other things in his busy life and my non-exceptional day to day tasks, this is how we usually spent our time.
I look up from my tablet and smile at him, reminiscing on the day he bought me the tablet. I had been reading physical books, which will always be superior, but I had complained a few times about the lights. He always seemed to keep the lights off in the room, and the colored LED lights just didn’t emit the wattage enough to prevent me from getting a migraine if I read for too long. His solution was buying the tablet. I could read without hurting my eyes, and he would still have my presence. This was one of the first signs that let me know he truly enjoyed this time.
Almost as if he felt my gaze, he looked back in the little reading nook we had created of too many squishmallows, pillows, and blankets. He smiled slightly, just the left corner of his mouth curled upward. He knew what this grin did to me. He removed one side of his headset from his ear, causing some pieces at the front of his low bun to come loose, falling down to frame his face.
“Behave over there, kitten. I know what book you bought.” He smirked.
My jaw dropped with a slight smile. “I’ll have you know I am being SO GOOD right now.”
“Yeah, reading fucking filth.” He laughed as he put his headphone back over his ear and continued his game.
I racked my brain of what I could do to prove my innocence. Nothing was coming to mind. Well, nothing innocent. I bit my lip and mumbled softly, “I’ll show you filth.”
I closed my tablet and laid it on the floor next to me. I slowly got on my hands and knees and crawled across the laminate floor until I was right behind Noah’s desk. I watched his screen for a few moments so I could make my move at the perfect time. Once a loading screen came up, I quickly turned his gaming chair to face me.
“Hi.” I said, looking up to him as he took off a headphone.
He raised a single eyebrow at me.
I stayed silent as my hands made their way to his belt. I unfastened the buckle as Noah understood my motive.
“Kitten?” He questioned me.
“It looked like you needed help. I’m here for support.” I looked at him devilishly.
Noah’s face gained color as I unbuttoned his pants. I could feel him growing underneath my hands as I slowly lowered his zipper.
“You think teasing me is going to help me? I think that’s just being a brat.” He growled.
“Fine. I won’t help at all.” I conceded, throwing my hands up in surrender.
Noah leaned forward, pulling my chin to him with his thumb and index finger. “Oh. You’re not are you?” He said, kissing my lips forcefully. “I thought you were my good girl.”
He smiled, kissed me again, and released my face from his hand. He leaned back, placing his hands behind his hand. His shirt slightly raised with his arms, exposing his abdomen. He closed his eyes.
I giggled. I pulled his pants and boxers down, exposing his manhood. He looked down at me with a smile. “That’s what I thought. I knew you were my good little kitten.” He spoke.
I closed my eyes as I took his shaft into my hand running my tongue around the tip of his cock.
“There you go, sweet girl.” He said, picking up his controller.
My mouth engulfed his length as I watched him struggle keeping his eyes from rolling into the back of his head. I took as much of him as I could. My throat felt like it was tightening around his dick. My reflexes kicked in and saliva pooled in my mouth around him. My body instinctively gagged. I pulled my mouth away and used my tongue on his head once again.
“You sound so fucking pretty, princess.” Noah moaned, eyes and hands barely keeping up with his game.
I moan as I take him into my mouth again. My bottom teeth lightly make contact with his skin. “Holy fuck. You make me feel so good baby girl.”
“Thank you, sir.” I say, licking up his shaft again.
Noah sits the controller down on his desk. As I take him back into my mouth again, his hand strokes my shoulder. My head moving up and down, his hand gripping me tightly. His other hand makes its way to the nape of my neck. He gathers my hair into his hand and pulls slightly, then pushes me back down. He thrusts against his motions, causing me to take more of his manhood inside my throat. I start to gag as he pulls himself out of my mouth. He smirks at me. He removes his hand from my shoulder and uses my hair to guide my head to look at him.
“Do you see how hard you make me? You did this you pretty girl. Now wipe that spit off your chin and sit on my lap, Kitten.” He starts to release my hair. “Actually. Open that pretty mouth.”
I open my mouth and close my eyes. Noah pulls my hair, tilting my head back. I feel his tongue on my neck, then up to my lips. He bites my lip then spits into my mouth. He releases my hair and laughs.
I close my mouth and swallow. “Thank you.”
“You’re so welcome, pretty kitten.” He says warmly. “Now sit.”
I stand up slowly. Noah’s hands travel up my shirt and feel my boobs. I take off my pants as he slips off my shirt. I climb on top of him, angling myself perfectly.
“I said sit.” He said firmly.
I lower myself onto him. A soft moan escapes my mouth. My body instinctively starts moving up and down. He leans back slightly, putting one hand on my waist, and the other grasping my face with his thumb.
Noah begins to thrust into me, pushing himself deeper inside. “Oh my fucking god.” I moan.
Noah pulls my face closer to his, my nose touching his. “I am your god, Kitten.” He growls with a smile.
He pulls me into a deep kiss as he thrusts harder into me. “Please!” I whisper.
“Of course, my girl. Cum for me.” He allows, nibbling at my neck.
My body slightly stiffens, then relaxes completely as I am filled with a wave of pleasure. My hips begin to buckle and I start grinding against him.
“You’re so beautiful when you cum for me.” He whispers into my ear.
His pace begins to even, his breathing becomes labored. “Oh fuck.” He moans as he releases his pleasure inside of me.
I rest my head on his shoulder. He kisses my cheek and tucks a stray hair behind my head. He pulls himself out of me, then picks me up and carries me to my corner.
“Stay here, my princess. I’ll be right back.” He orders, pulling on his pants.
I lay where he sat me, catching my breath. I hear the water from the tub in the next room running. He comes back and picks me up again, covering me with a blanket, then carrying me to the bathroom. He lays me in the bath tub, where he had drew me a bubble bath. He pulls my hair into a ponytail, then kisses my forehead.
He opens a bottle of water and puts it to my lips. I take a drink as I look up to him. I pull back when I’m done, then he downs the rest of the water. He pulls the nearby stool next to the tub, straddling it. He caresses my face.
“You’re such a good girl.” He says.
“Thank you. I love you, Daddy.” I say.
“I love you, too, Kitten.”

I Took Your Keys, It Was Me - Part 5
Noah Sebastian x Reader
Words: 5.3k
A/N: part 5 of this series is finally here. I’m considering this to be the last one so I really hope you enjoy 🖤🤍
Tumblr media
When you awoke, the pillow beneath your head had shifted, and Noah was no longer by your side. Sleepily, you look around. The sun was not long up, light shining in low beams of gold through the window.
When you write yourself fully, there was a small clattering in the kitchen. When you turn, you see Noah, lifting spoonfuls of a milky cereal into his mouth, some of which misses and plops back into the bowl. With a grin, he looks at you.
“Good morning sunshine,” he places the bowl on the counter, wiping a drip from his chin. The innocent nickname made your heart swell. “How did you sleep?”
He stood casually shirtless, leaning backward, his hips in line with the countertop. The tattoos that decorated all of his chest and stomach looked like they could be in a gallery. There were ones where the symbolism seemed obvious, but there were so many that sparked new questions.
You rub at one eye sleepily as a yawn escapes your lips, eyes eventually averting from ogling at his tattoos.
“Like a log, actually” you say tagged with a small laugh. Noah smiles in response and turns to place his bowl in the sink, then walks towards you swiftly. He leans down and lands a small kiss on your forehead, smoothing down some of your erratic hairs splayed everywhere with a gentle rub of his thumb.
“Would it be okay if I use your shower?” he asks politely.
“Of course, towels are just around the corner,” you gesture to the cupboard, and Noah soon disappears, the sound of water falling in the bathroom soon follows.
You take this opportunity to find your phone, which had been thoughtfully plugged in by Noah. You assume that you fell asleep long before he did. When you unlock it, you see a plethora of messages from your friend. Instead of replying to them all, you decided to just call her.
It took two rings, and then she was there.
“TELL ME EVERYTHING” she demanded. You couldn’t help but laugh at her brashness.
“He took me home, looked after me, and now he’s currently in my shower” you giggle. You felt like a school girl the way you were talking about Noah. It felt like the butterflies in your stomach were doubling by the second.
“And how are you feeling?” she then asked in a more serious tone.
“Better. I don’t think any of these injuries are that serious. Just a bit of a knock around and some intense bruises. I’ll be fine” you state calmly.
She hmphs in response.
“I’ll never forgive you for not telling me about Noah. But, regardless, tell me about EVERYTHING that has happened. How many dates? Have you kissed? Have you slep-”
“So many questions!” you interject, holding your hands up defensively even though she couldn't see you. You knew exactly where she was going with that.
“Well?”
“A few dates. I’ve met most of the band and crew, they are all so lovely. We made out last night, but it was too painful to take it any further. And that’s it. You’re up to date.”
“Take it further?” She pressed.
“You know exactly what I mean”
“No, I don’t. Please enlighten me”
“My chest and ribs were in too much pain so I had to pull back”
“Good on you for knowing when it was too much, but how did he react? Was he mad?”
The assumption made you wince a little, feeling like you needed to defend him.
“He was apologetic, actually. He was happy to stop. Didn’t want to hurt me.” Your tone was a little more serious now.
“Okay. So now what?” She asked. And that was a great question. Now what?
Now what, in terms of labels for you two, or now what, as in what’s the plan for today?
Your mind raced back to the conversation late last night, the one of Noah taking you to one of his shows.
“He’s driving me to their show tonight, and then driving me back. I think he’s worried I’ll hurt myself by overdoing it if I’m alone” you laugh at the absurdity. It wasn’t like you had lost any limbs or broken any bones.
“He sounds sweet” your friend coos.
“He is.” The sound of the water shutting off in the bathroom makes your heartbeat pick up the pace.
“I promise I’ll keep you up to date with anything else” you say, and then the two of you quickly say your goodbyes.
When Noah walks back into the room, you look up from your phone after going through all of your messages. His towel is hitched low on his hips, beads of hot water still clinging to his body. Steam trailed up into the air almost like a metaphor for how hot he looked at this moment.
His eyes were slightly bloodshot, dark irises looking straight into your soul, hair was slick and stuck down to his forehead, and you didn’t even dare let your eyes wander to the slight lump just beneath where the towel covered his body.
“I don’t exactly have a spare set of clothes, would it be okay if I used your machine to clean these ones?” The politeness was astounding, and the gentleness of which he asked made you become a little woozy.
“Yeah, of course, it’s down this way-“ you begin to stand, ignoring the fire inside of you when you flex your abdominal muscles. Noah noticed the slight wince and swiftly held his hand in your shoulder.
The strength of his grip was so controlled, nowhere near his full potential, but firm enough to know he wasn’t playing around.
“You need to stay seated and take it easy,” just as you begin to argue, he continues. “Doctors orders.”
You stare at him, hands grasping at the sofa’s fabric. Noah lifts an eyebrow at you, as though egging you on to continue, but you huff and fall back in defeat.
Noah grins, triumphantly at that, and then turns on his heels and around the corner again, the sound of the washing machine clunking to life echoes down the hallway after a few moments.
The following hours repeat much the same as that you have just experienced. Beginning a task, Noah firmly reminding you ‘doctor's orders,’ and then proceeding to act like a full time carer.
Lunch? Ordered and delivered.
Dishwasher? Unpacked and mostly out away correctly.
Rubbish? Taken out.
The only thing Noah couldn’t do for you was use the restroom on your behalf, even if he had tried to argue with you about it.
You shift and begin to stand, Noah immediately standing in front of you.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
“I need to pee, Noah.” You say bluntly, struggling to find an angle that didn’t hurt to pull yourself up.
Noah, although disgruntled, offers you his hands and helps pull you to a stand. Instead of letting you go, he instead traps you in his arms.
“This isn’t helping” you state, but didn’t even dare try and get out of his embrace. He didn’t respond, instead, kept you in his arms for a moment longer. When he did release you, he couldn’t keep his eyes from you as you turned to walk away.
Your business in the bathroom didn’t take long, but when you walked back to the living room, Noah was standing, pacing slowly around the room, his phone held to his ear.
“I don’t know why this is an issue now? You were fine with it earlier?” He argued down the line. He looked like an unimpressed mother the way he stood with one hand on his hip, leaning on one leg more than the other.
He didn’t meet your gaze when you entered, so you assume it’s none of your business. Instead, you return to your seat on the lounge and focus as much as you can on the tv.
“Fine. I’ll make it work. I’ll be there” he huffed, as though in defeat, and then hung up.
“So turns out,” he fell back onto the sofa next to you, bouncing slightly as he landed, “that we need to be there earlier than expected.”
You nod in response.
He continued, “there’s some media who want to do an interview with the whole band. I guess I gotta be there for that”
“I guess you gotta be there for that” you echo playfully.
With Noah’s new schedule for the evening, it meant you had to leave much sooner than expected. Time passed quickly and soon enough you were both in the car and not far from your destination.
The car ride was pleasant, filled with easy conversations, some karaoke sing-a-longs, and even now and then some comfortable silence.
Upon arriving, there was some chaos occurring at the rear of the venue, but Noah didn't seem phased. He coolly parked the car, helped you out of the seat by offering a gentlemanly hand, and then walked towards the hustle and bustle, all the while still holding a firm grip on your hand, like he was scared you would trip and fall.
Through the doors was a labyrinth of endless hallways, ominous doors and flickering lights. Windows were few and far between, but you put that down to the ambient design of the live music venue.
Noah led you effortlessly, unravelling the puzzle of the hallways, gracefully slipping between small gatherings of people, until he came to his desired door.
Along the way, Noah explained that the interview process always felt so forced and unnatural to him. The questions were always premeditated, rehearsed, and disingenuous.
“It’s always the same thing. ‘How are you feeling about tonight’s show? When is new music coming out? Any collabs on the horizon?’. Always trying to get a scoop of drama or intel.” Noah seemed frustrated already, but it was with a steady breath, he twisted the handle and entered the room.
The lights were so bright they almost burned your retinas. Squinting as Noah led you into the room, your eyes adjusted to see a flurry of people. Cameras being set up, mics and more lighting being rigged. The rest of the band sat on a tan sofa. Folio, Ruffilo, Jolly, and then an empty space. Closest to the empty space sat an armchair of a matching colour. Sat there was a man dressed plainly, T-shirt and jeans, who was too engrossed in something on their phone to pay any attention to the room around them.
Folios leg bounced up and down rhythmically, like he was practising a kick drum pattern for the show tonight. Ruffilo and Jolly were in a quiet conversation, throwing a casual head nod to Noah as he entered the room.
Noah looked around, finding a chair off to the side with a pile of equipment and cables on it. He relocated said like to the floor, ignoring the disgruntled look of media, and offered you the seat.
“You’ll get a good view of the whole thing here” he said pointing over his shoulder and the interview set up, “but it shouldn’t take too long.”
He hesitated a moment, and let go of your hand as you sat. He offered you a sweet grin, then turned to take his place on the sofa.
You saw Jolly nudge his elbow into Noah’s side as he sat, the menagerie of people beginning to take their places and roll cameras.
Watching the professional personas take over was fascinating. The way the band effortlessly discusses their answers to the meagre at best questions made the whole process very entertaining. Whether they knew it or not, they took turns in giving their responses, and would nod and hum approvingly if each other's answers. There was a chemistry between them all, like an unspoken language, where they just got each other.
It was 10 or so minutes in, the bland pleasantries long gone, and now the harder hitting questions were being asked.
“What do these records look like compared to your previous works?”
“Any plans to leave your current label once the contract is done?”
“Will your relationships become a distraction from the production of your new music?”
The interviewer was hammering them. He was digging for the details. Looking for the next juicy scoop.
But, it was that last question that echoed in your head.
Relationship?
Noah leaned back in his seat, arm was now resting along the back of the sofa. He took his time, considering the words he would use, how he could dance around this question but still give a satisfactory answer.
Well, that’s what you thought. You expected him to avoid discussing his relationships, let alone you, at any cost. What even were the two of you? There had been no discussion of what you were, only that you had been spending a lot of time together. Surely he wouldn’t let the world know that.
“I'm not distracted. I'm perfectly capable of maintaining my relationship and still producing a kick-ass record. I think I can speak for all of us when I say that we’re in the best place to actually live our lives currently.” Noah takes a moment, a fleeting glance in your direction, and then goes back to his answer.
“We’re lucky to have such good people surrounding us, if anything it’s going to help motivate us even more.”
It was for the most fleeting of moments, but Noah caught your gaze. His eyes flickered to yours almost like it was the reassurance you didn’t know you were looking for, that he was talking about you. You barely even noticed Jolly continuing on from Noah’s answer.
“We surround ourselves with good people, so only good things can come from that.” The rest of the band were nodding in agreement.
The man asking the interview questions, whose name you found out to be Tim, looked ecstatic. He had a hook into the personal lives of this otherwise mysterious band, and he wasn’t going to let go of it that easily.
“Noah, how do you think your audience will react to your new taken status?”
Noah rolled his eyes, removing his arm from the back of the lounge and leant forward on his knees. He held the microphone in one hand, the other waving too and fro to help emphasise his statements.
“Look, the thing I think people need to remember is that I’m a human that has a life. Shocking, I know. Yes, my music means a lot to me. Does that mean it’s the only thing in my life? No. People can think whatever they want, I can’t control that. What I can control, and what we will continue to do, is to put everything we’ve got into making music we enjoy.”
Beautifully, he had dodged the question.
Tim wasn’t happy.
“What does the rest of the band think?” He gestured his hand towards Folio.
“Doesn’t change our lives” he said with a shrug.
Tim grunted, then locked eyes with Ruffilo.
“It’s true. I think most people wouldn’t have even known if you didn’t bring it up in this interview” Rufilo stated calmly, throwing the drama back into Tim.
Clearly dissatisfied with this topic now, Tim moved into something else. The interview was quickly wrapped up mere minutes later. With the cameras now turned off, Tim, now out of the room, Folio, Jolly, Noah and Ruffilo all stood, stretching and heading for the door.
Noah glanced over his shoulder and waved you towards him, slinging his arm over your shoulder and leading you out of the room with him.
“That seemed like fun” you say to the group as they saunter towards the green room.
“One of the less painful ones recently,” Jolly responded.
“He didn’t want to let up with the relationship shit,” Ruffilo commented. You noticed the hint of annoyance on his voice, feeling a sense of guilt creep into the pit of your stomach.
“He’ll be happy with what he got,” Noah chimed in, guiding you into a new empty room of the venue.
You didn’t bring up anything else about the interview out of fear. Fear of adding unnecessary stress, of causing any more tension, and honestly you just didn’t want to be a problem.
You began to watch the flurry in front of you. It was like a well oiled machine the way they choreographed their warm ups. Taking turns for sound check, leaving for periods of time to set up gear, practising their instruments and vocals. This was second nature to them. That interview? Long gone from their worries, so you tried to do the same as best you could.
Noah was always in two places at once, looking like he was working on a thousand things, ticking them off from a mental checklist.
Checking, rechecking, and checking equipment a third time. He was meticulous. His eye for detail, from how the cables were taped down, the placement of the set lists, even observing the light show from various corners of the venue. Everything he did had a purpose, but the way he spoke wasn't demanding. Instead, his cool demeanour helped portray his vision, and the crew knew exactly how to translate that into their craft.
An hour has passed before you knew it, and the energy in the room shifted. More and more people started to filter through the rear of the venue, and soon enough what looked like the whole lineup for the evening's entertainment filled the greenroom.
You have been to plenty of shows before, seen many bands live, but this was a new experience for you. There was a strange sense of familiarity to it all as you walked onto the main floor, into a wide open space with the stage lit up, barred off only by a flimsy barricade.
It just looked so empty. The calm before the storm. The quiet echoes of voices started to grow louder as a small gathering of the crew entered into the room. You immediately felt out of place then, looking sheepishly to the floor and stepping in the opposite direction from where they were coming.
“Wait up!” A voice calls out, but you keep walking, thinking it was for someone else.
“Jeez, you walk quickly. Hang on Key Girl” you heard again, only then glancing over your shoulder. Miles half-jogged to you. “It’s good to see you again,” he said, then turned to look at the stage. “It’s pretty unreal, isn’t it”.
You admired the screens which rolled through different graphics, colours flooding onto the polished timber floors.
“I wanted to see it all from this point of view before everyone else came in,” you admit.
“So he’s got you watching from the side stage? Left or right?” Miles questioned. You didn’t exactly know what he was on about.
“I have no idea,” is your response, paired with a shaky, nervous laugh.
“He thinks his left side is his good side. If he says watch him from stage left, let me know” Miles comments with a wink.
Before you’re able to question him further on it, his name is called and he is gone, leaving you baffled.
“Doors open in 10!” Is loudly called from one end of the room, and immediately people are moving about. You see this as your sign to head back to the greenroom and prepare for the tsunami of people about to bust through those doors.
Lo and behold, the 10 minutes are up, and people are pouring into the once empty room. There is an excited chatter amongst everyone there as the place lights up from the beaming faces of the audience.
After straying from him for some time, Noah found you in a slight panic.
“Are you okay? Everything okay? Your injuries oka-“
“I’m okay. Good. Great even” you interject. Noah nods, your response not calming his jitters. It wasn’t you he was panicked about.
“What’s going on?” You ask, instinctively placing a hand to rest on his tattooed forearm. He was warm and you could feel his heartbeat pulsing quickly.
“Talk to me” you ordered, and Noah’s eyes met yours. He takes a deep breath, closing his eyes, and lets out the air steadily.
“Remember the interview?” He asks, and it’s the first time since you were there that you thought of it. “I should have spoken to you first. I’m sorry. I didn’t think he would put it out so quickly. I shouldn’t have looked at the comments. I should have signed off.”
“What are you on about Noah?”
He looks sheepish then, avoiding your gaze and pulling your hand into his. He led you to a beaten up sofa in the corner of the greenroom. As you sat, the small crowd in there were murmuring, throwing quick glances in your direction.
Noah goes through something on his phone, bringing up links through different social apps, before offering it to you.
You take the phone, but instead of looking at the screen, you watch the way he buries his face in his hands. His long fingers tap anxiously as he leans forward onto his elbows.
“I’m sorry. I think I fucked up” he grumbles into his hands, barely audible. “Please don’t hate me.”
“Noah, you’re acting like you killed someone” you joke, but he doesn’t respond. So you look at the screen. You see a YouTube video loaded and a very familiar scene.
From what you saw mere hours ago, it was already uploaded into the digital world.
“I’m struggling to see what the issue is here” you bump your shoulder to his, and he finally sits upright. He takes the phone from his hand and swiftly fast forwards to the near end of the video, and passes it back.
The video played, the interview ended, and a new scene of Tim appeared on the phone. Perplexed, you turn the volume up.
“You heard it here first, Noah Sebastian is off the market” he said, speaking jovially to the camera. “Accompanied by his girlfriend this afternoon, Sebastian seems to be pretty confident that nothing will change, but I want to know what his fans think.”
What happened next made your heart drop - a photo of your side profile with a small smile on your face graced the phone screen. Noah groaned and put his face back into the palms of his hands as he leant back into the sofa.
The video continued to divulge information, from your name, hometown, even your age. Hearing it all spoken by this stranger online sounded alien, you needed to go back and watch it again.
You recognise the scene in the photo, the same room the interview took place in. You can just make out the back of a camera pointing in the opposite direction of you. Someone had sneakily taken your photograph while the interview was taking place. They were on to you before you even knew what was going on.
Watching it a third time, hearing your name clearly stated once again, made the severity of the situation clear. Your secret was out. People know your face now. Your friends and family didn’t even know this much yet. But most importantly, Noah’s girlfriend?
“I didn’t see them take that photo” Noah mumbles, still hiding behind his hands. “I didn’t want you to feel pressured. This fucker fucked that up. I’m so sorry.”
“Are you sorry that they got a bad angle of me?” You whisper, tugging at his arm in an attempt to release his face.
His arm drops and he looks at you quizzically.
“I don’t get it” he stares blankly, blinking as if to clear up your statement.
“I would have preferred to have better lighting” you joke, handing him back his phone. Everything inside you was panicking, screaming even to worry about this. But what was there to worry about?
People won’t like you for it, sure. But you’re not alone. Was it 100% true? You didn’t know, but that didn’t matter. What did matter was Noah and how he had got himself into a panicked state. He needed you to be calm, to help him be calm.
“Why aren’t you mad at me?”
The small gathering of people fell into a quiet, barely audible whisper. People sneakily peered in your direction, watching what unfolded between the two of you.
“Tim seems like an asshole, sure, but why would I be mad at you?”
“I just outed you to the world” Noah states matter-of-factly.
Failing to find the words, because although technically true, it wasn’t your fault, you offer him a shrug.
“And you’re not mad about it.” Noah concludes. The people in the room now being less obvious of their eavesdropping. You glance in their direction, and just like a cartoon they all scurry to appear busy. One even picked up a broom.
Your eyes are back to Noah’s looking significantly less panicked now. His state slowly became more himself.
“I’m more curious,” he admits.
“About what” he was quick with his answer.
You hesitate, but need answers.
“The girlfriend thing.”
He pauses, eyes darting between your pupils, waiting for you to look away. You don’t.
“Would you?”
“Would I what?” You press. A smile cracks on his face.
“You’re going to make me ask like we’re teenagers?”
“Damn right” you remark. His smile grows bigger.
“Would you be my girlfriend?”
“What did you mean earlier when you said ‘I should have signed off’?”
“What?” Noah stammers out. Clearly not the response he was waiting for.
“You said…,” you paused to clear your throat. “‘I shouldn’t have looked at the comments. I should have signed off.’” You look at him expectantly. His eyes widen and a light pink graces his cheeks. He begins to chew at his bottom lip and the panic starts to return.
“I… uh…” his hand raises and he rubs at the back of his neck as he looks at the wall opposite you. “Replied to some comments. Online.” He pulls a face that screams ‘I think I said something I shouldn't have’, but also one that seems smug and almost proud of himself.
“Youuuuuu didn’t.” you gasp. Knowing his history of snide comments online, things can get unhinged real quick. “What did you say?”
Noah stands and paces the room with his arms held behind his back. It looks like he is about to defend himself when people walk back into the room. The privacy of this conversation flew out the window.
Noah was taken by surprise by the sudden uprising of people in the room, standing still and watching more people walk briskly in his direction.
“Dude. Love that you’re sticking up for her. But come on.” Ruffilo states, emphasising his points with his hands. He meant no harm, but Noah was starting to get flustered.
“What else was I supposed to do?” Running his hands through his hair now, he checked the time on his phone. Folio came to his side, placing his hand on his shoulder.
“Fuck ‘em. It’s hardly the worst thing you’ve ever tweeted.” Folio seemed unfazed by this whole thing.
The comments continued to be thrown around about how they are going to handle the situation. You used the distraction to check it out for yourself. Trying your best to filter through the comments about you, you sought the Bad Omens page and saw recent replies to some comments.
Noah was defending you, putting people in their place after throwing out allegations, making memes of the photograph they used of you, and blatantly spreading rumours.
Noah, being the cool ‘I don’t use social media’ guy he is, instantly jumped into it.
There were only a handful, but the casualness of how he owned the word ‘girlfriend’ made you blush a little.
‘At least I have a girlfriend’ was one.
‘This is why we can’t have nice things’ was another.
‘Let me know when someone can finally stand your bullshit’ was the last.
Each response was calling people out, and his sassy replies were finally putting people in their place.
You scrolled through the thread reacting to his comments. And by some miracle, people were getting it. Their attitude began to change, albeit small.
Subtly as you can, you put your phone away and walk over to Noah, whine seemed to be putting up his walls as he argued with his crew.
“Look, what’s done is done!” Jolly spoke diplomatically, trying and failing to speak over the rising tide of voices.
They all looked exasperated and lost, clearly having no idea what to do. You went to Noah’s side and loosely wrapped an arm around his back, hitching a grip onto his waste. He instinctively hung an arm around your shoulders which he rubbed his thumb and forefinger on the bridge of his nose.
“You guys are really worked up over this, huh” you comment. Seeing their expressions falter to confusion confirmed your point.
“You’re strangely calm for being the epicentre of the storm,” Ruffilo laughed. It was the first time he cracked a smile since he walked in the room.
You offer a shrug in response. “Took the pressure off of me announcing it to the world.”
And for the first time, they all seemed to agree.
Noah pulls you closer to him, wrapping both his arms around your shoulders, and buried his head into your hair. You can feel light kisses being peppered into your head.
“Thank you” he murmurs loud enough for only you to hear.
“Is there always this much drama before you play a show?” You ask, and they chuckle.
You had succeeded and their guards were coming down. It didn’t take long before everyone was acting like themselves once again.
You couldn’t help but notice how Noah didn’t leave your side. Whether or not you thought it was because he still thought your injuries were worse than they really were, or that with this newfound relationship that he didn’t want to leave your side; you weren’t complaining.
Whether it be hovering his palm on the small of your back to help guide you through the hallways, offering to buy you a drink, shifting his weight and adjusting his posture any time you started to fidget by his side. It was all those small, thoughtful gestures that really made you see what kind of person he was like.
He cared for the small things, the things that would most usually go unnoticed. The straw he got for your drink, when he held the door open for you walking into any room, even the sweet glance thrown your way when he was across the room and you were mid-conversation with Jolly just to make sure your leg wasn’t bouncing with nerves again.
It just felt right.
Before you knew it, the time had come for the main act to start. Opening bands had been and gone, and the headliner was up next. The crowd sounded amped up, a thrill running through the air like electricity. The band had choreographed this, and had begun their walk down the runway. Red and white lights were beaming and twirling around the stage, the screens cycling through a cacophony of images and digital artefacts.
Just as Noah was about to walk on stage, clutching his ski mask in one hand, he looked at you with admiration. He grasped the sides of your face in his big hands and planted a kiss tenderly to your lips. You learnt into it, lingering in the fleeting moment of his warmth, almost making you feel lightheaded and swoony. When he pulled back, all too soon, he had a new sparkle in his eye.
“Watch me from stage left tonight” he ordered. Pressing a kiss on your forehead, he slipped the mask on and jogged to the stage, throwing you a wink before he fell into character for the night's entertainment.

Chapter 1
Riley’s POV:
I was in a surprisingly peaceful sleep when I felt soft fur against my face then the gentle nudge and lick. It’s the morning ritual I’ve grown accustomed to. “Good morning, Hades.” I groggily say to my three-year-old black German Shepherd who has oh so rudely decided it’s time to get up.
I roll over rubbing the sleep from my eyes to see the soft glow of the morning light filtering in through my window. Picking my phone up from the nightstand it reads 7:26 am October 13th. Sighing, I swing my feet to the edge of my bed and proceed to start our normal morning routines.
A short time later I step out onto my back deck to let Hades do his business, my hands wrapped around a steaming cup of coffee. I’m immediately hit with a warm breeze and realize just how comfortable it feels. Pulling my phone from the pocket of my pajama pants, I check the weather app where it predicts it to be an exceptionally warm day. Luckily, it’s one of my days off from my boring, dead-end customer service job. It’s been a major stressor for me lately and I’m ecstatic to avoid that hell hole even if just for today.
I mindlessly scroll random apps as I sip my coffee, enjoying the sun’s rays on my pale skin as my boy gets all his overnight zoomies out. Just as I sip the last of the coffee from my mug, he comes running back up sitting beside me, tongue out, panting. “Hey, handsome boy of mine. I know we usually take walks around the neighborhood on my days off but how’d you like to go to the park instead?” I ask, scratching behind his ear, getting only a gruff woof and tail wag in agreement. “Perfect!” I exclaim before we walk back inside.
I spend a few hours working around the house tidying a bit and starting some laundry while singing (ok more like screaming) and dancing around the cozy bungalow I call my home, all while the songs boom through the Bluetooth speakers. Hades tilted his head or huffed at me occasionally from his oversized dog bed in the living room. “You know you love it!” I tease as I pass by, stopping to give him a few good belly scratches.
I quickly shower before stepping out into the steamy bathroom, grabbing one of my oversized towels from the rack and wrapping it around my small frame. I pull my paddle brush through the tangles that are my shoulder-length black hair, then twist another towel around it, pushing it onto the top of my head and retreating to my room. I fall back onto my queen bed, my arms spreading as I lean back, and stay that way for a while, closing my eyes and preparing myself to venture out.
Eventually, I push myself up and go over to my dresser. I pull out a black thong and lace bralette then a pair of black leggings and my go-to comfy, faded, grey Guns N’ Roses shirt I’ve cut into a crop top. After getting dressed, I return to the bathroom to pull my hair into a low loose ponytail, leaving a few strands out to frame my face. I stare at myself in the mirror above my sink, sighing at the sight but I don’t bother putting on makeup. I’m too tired to care and it’s not like I’m out to impress anyone. Dropping my gaze, I push myself away from the counter and head back towards the kitchen to prepare everything Hades and I will need for the park.
Tumblr media
Half an hour later we’re pulling into my favorite park. I reach back to clip on Hades’ leash, grab my crossbody bag from the passenger floorboard, and then exit the SUV. We stop to grab the blanket from the back hatch of my grey 2010 Nissan Xterra before making our way down the sidewalk.
As expected, the park was alive with the sounds of nature and people out enjoying the weather. It took us a few minutes, but we managed to find a nice shady spot under a tall oak tree that’s adjacent to the large field where people lounge and play. I release Hades and tell him to stay as I work to spread out my black and white buffalo plaid blanket and begin unpacking for a relaxing afternoon.
It didn’t take long before we got comfortable. I lay on my stomach, my legs bent at the knee, casually swinging back and forth through the air. I’ve got my sticker-covered tumbler and a Tupperware full of fresh-cut fruit (ok mostly strawberries) on one side of me. A book was spread in front of me, my eyes skimming over the pages from behind my oversized sunglasses. Hades had posted up near the edge of the blanket on my other side as he went to town on his large red Kong toy, his travel bowl full of water next to him.
I’d lost track of time, completely caught up in my reading, most of my fruit picked over and eaten. Hades had long given up on his toy and was almost asleep when suddenly he perked up giving a slight huff. Figuring he saw a squirrel or something, I failed to see the large shadow pass over me as a sudden pain shoots into the left side of my ribs and something heavy fell over top of me, Hades darting away from his position. Whatever it is landed with a thud in front of Hades, water splashing everywhere in the process. I quickly began to shake the water from the pages of my book before any damage could be done.
“Ouch! What the fu…” I begin to exclaim, but my words come up short as my eyes fall onto this dazed, dark-haired man lying across me and my blanket.
He slowly pushes himself up onto his elbows, putting his shirtless and heavily tattooed chest on full display, droplets of water sliding down and glistening in the afternoon light. I thank God for these sunglasses hiding my eyes as I gawk at this stranger’s toned body. I shake my head and slowly take in the scene, realizing his long legs are still stretched across my back and one of his elbows rests halfway in Hades’ water bowl.
Eventually, my eyes make it back to his face where I’m greeted with a strong, sharp jawline peppered with the beginnings of some facial hair and mesmerizing deep chocolate-brown eyes. I’m brought back to reality when Hades is suddenly at the man’s side dropping a frisbee I hadn’t even noticed onto his lap. I can’t help but let out a laugh at the situation and the fact I was letting myself get lost in this stranger’s looks, no matter how handsome he may be. “I think Hades is returning your frisbee to you.” I state matter of factly. Despite his size and intimidating looks, he was quite a gentle giant. Thanks a lot bud, so much for protecting me.
Noah’s POV:
I have no idea what happened, but one second I was running full speed and the next I found myself lying flat on my back staring at the brightly colored tree canopy above me.
I let out a groan and begin to push myself up onto my elbows. Feeling something wet on one of my arms, I look over to see my elbow in a water bowl. I begin taking in the rest of my surroundings and find I’m on someone’s picnic blanket. Just then I see something dark in my peripheral vision and the frisbee I’d been running to catch drops in my lap.
I hear a feminine laugh as my eyes dart up, noticing my legs are laid across the back of a petite raven-haired woman who had been stretched out on said blanket. I hear her words as I look down to the frisbee in my lap, then to the big furry black mass standing to my right. That must be whose water bowl my elbow is resting in.
I hurriedly remove my legs and scramble to my knees, the frisbee falling from my lap while putting my hands up in case this dog decides to attack. Again, I hear the sound of her laughter drawing my eyes to her full, slightly red tinted lips. Slowly she sits up crisscrossing her legs in front of her, her crop top riding up a little to reveal a tattoo on her side as she rubs at her ribs. A few more are sprinkled on her arms.
“Don’t worry, he may look ferocious, but he’s really a big baby.” With the motion of her free hand I watch as the large dog returns to the girl’s side and lays against her, eyes closing, tongue out as he soaks up her head pats.
I breathe out a sigh of relief as I sit back on my heels and brush my hands down my star covered sweat shorts nervously and let out a slight chuckle. “Good to know, cause I was about to high tail it out of here and hope—Hades was it?—didn’t catch me!” I respond. “Hey, sorry about all of this, though.” I start as I wave my hand around us.
She lifts her sunglasses revealing stunning icy blue/grey almond-shaped eyes as she takes in the now wet and twisted blanket. Sucking in a breath I try to offer, “My buddies and I were just tossing the frisbee around and I guess I let my competitive nature get the best of me.  I wasn’t paying attention, and you see where that got me.”
As if on cue my friends, Jolly and Nick, come jogging over taking in the scene and thankfully ending my nervous rant. “What you mean on the ground beside a pretty lady?” Nick waggles his eyebrows as he smirks before asking, “Are you two good?”
Jolly jumped in with, “That looked like quite a fall, man.”
I chuckle lightly before I answer, “Yeah I’m good, but I’ll probably feel it in the morning.” I clear my throat a little remembering the stunning girl and her dog sitting across from me. “Umm are you okay…?” I ask, pausing since I don’t know her name.
Picking up on the pause she answers, “Riley. Yeah, I think I’ll be okay. Might have a bruise in the next couple of days but I’ll deal.”
A pang of guilt washes over me for hurting her but I give a crooked smile. “I’m Noah, these are my friends Jolly and Folio,” I say pointing to each of the guys.
She nods her head slightly at each of the guys, giving a polite smile and wave. It suddenly becomes abundantly clear we are invading her space, as the awkward silence grows between us all. I move to stand tucking the frisbee under my arm and giving the guys a nod, each taking a few steps back in understanding, Jolly looking over his shoulder to find where our roommates dog, Harper, is playing. “We should probably leave you be, you seemed to have been enjoying your reading when I tripped over you.” I say as I glance down at the abandoned book laid out on the blanket.
Shrugging, she responds with, “I was but I’d lost track of time, and we actually need to be heading out.” With that she stands, Hades whining slightly, and begins picking up her belongings and packing them back into her bag.
I look down at the mess I’ve made of her space, everything scattered about, so I quickly lean down, picking up her book. I offer it to her as I ask “Are you sure you’re alright? Can I help you carry anything?”
She takes the book, my eyes drawn to where she chews on her lip, thinking it over. After some hesitation Riley nods. “You really don’t have to, but I might need a hand with the blanket. I can never get them folded up easily on my own, and I’ve got to be able to hold his leash as we walk.” She motions over to Hades who tilts his head sideways at the mention of leash.
With a small chuckle I call out a “heads up!” to Folio, who’s now walking away with Jolly before tossing him the frisbee and reaching to pick up the blanket. I shake it out then do my best to fold it before draping it over my arm as she picks up her remaining belongings.
After a moment and her commands to Hades, we walk back towards the parking lot in another slightly awkward silence. Coming to a stop at the back of an Xterra, she starts digging for her keys and unlocks the doors. She takes Hades to the back passenger door allowing him to jump inside before unhooking his leash and telling him to stay then returning to the back where I stand.
“Thank you for helping with that and walking me back.” She says, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear and staring down at the asphalt before taking the blanket and placing it in the back hatch.
“No problem. It was the least I could do after crashing into you like I did.” I shrug, earning a small, cute giggle from her.
After another moment of silence she shifts on her feet, bringing her eyes up to meet mine and extending her hand before saying with a playful tone, “Well, it was nice to meet you Noah, wish I could say it was under better circumstances though.”
I take her hand, noticing just how small it feels in mine before lightly shaking it and saying, “You too Riley.” With that I drop her hand and move to the sidewalk as she walks to her driver’s door. Turning back, I give a salute as she starts the SUV and I head back to the guys.
Tumblr media
The moment I walk up, Folio raises his eyebrow asking, “What was that all about Casanova?”
I shrug running my hand through my shoulder-length hair. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” They both let out a laugh.
It’s Jolly’s turn to pipe up now, his slight Swedish accent coming through. “Bullshit Noah, you’ve still got a goofy grin plastered on your face and the way you were looking at her… it’s obvious you thought she was attractive.”
Folio chimes in again, “Tell us you at least got her number…”
I don’t bother responding before grabbing the frisbee out of his hands and jogging away. I silently kick myself for not thinking about that. We stay for another hour or so before leaving, my mind wandering to Riley quite often through the night.

lma1986 asked:Best friends to lovers Noah returns home from tour and finally gets to spend time with the reader. Make it cute and fluffy 😍
Disclaimer: this is completely fictional. I do not own Bad Omens or anyone affiliated with them. This is a RPF; don't like? Don't read. Hope you enjoy! 😊 Word count: 2,555 Tag List: @cheyfi @kingdomof-omens @daylightlvrs @blade-in-red @ladyveronikawrites @jay02bo @itsmrsfuentes @cncohshit @catj422 @lma1986 @chels3a-smile @kiwi475 *if you want to be added to the tag list, please let me know!*
A/N: This takes place in Noah's POV and is based off the song "Jenny" by Studio Killers. 😇
I leaned against the passenger door of my car, legs crossed at the ankles and arms folded over my chest, waiting for that white door to swing open. I've been through that door a million times before, ever since I was about 5 years old, and I never grew tired of coming to this little pale-yellow house on Chestnut Street. It wasn't my home, but it may as well have been from how often I came here through my adolescent years—I could navigate the ins and outs with a blindfold, and both hands tied behind my back.
The door finally swung open, the petite frame of my best friend materializing from behind it. I chuckled, a smirk tugging at my lips as she freezes, her hand still grasping the door. From a distance, I could see the confusion written on her face when she sees me, and I know she's questioning whether I was really here right now.
I wasn't supposed to be home from our tour until tomorrow—that's what I told her, at least.
"Nono!" she shouts, a cheek-splitting smile across her face as she practically jumps down the front steps. Her golden curls bounced behind her as she ran across the lawn barefoot, the sun accentuating her highlights and shimmering in gentle waves. "When are you gonna stop calling me that?" I pushed off the side of my car with a feigned eye roll, opening my arms to welcome her in a hug. She throws herself at me, nearly knocking me over as I wrapped my arms around her and rocked from one foot to the other. "Never," she mumbles into my shirt, and my chest fills with warmth when I hear her giggle shortly after.
When we first met in kindergarten, Jenny was a little delayed in her speech and had a hard time pronouncing 'Noah'. She called me 'Nono' instead and I absolutely hated it at the time, but as we got older, I grew to cherish it. I never told her that though, and continued with the façade of despising it because I loved the way she laughed, thinking she was getting under my skin by teasing me.
That's how it's always been for the last two decades. We push each other's buttons, we argue, we laugh, we cry. That was just who we are. Nono and Jenny; best of friends, partners in crime, two peas in a pod. I'd like to say that I wouldn't want it any other way, but it simply wasn't true—I wanted her in the way that a flower needs rain to flourish.
After all, aside from Nick, she was the reason I pushed so hard to have this music career take off. She was always so supportive, and a genius at that. On the days where I was stumped, she'd give whatever project I was working on a listen and would come up with a suggestion that always played out just the way I was envisioning it.
"Why are you here?" she asked once we stopped hobbling back and forth, taking a step back to look at me with that heartwarming smile still on her face. I crossed my arms over my chest and gave her a stern look. "What? I can leave if you don't want me here," I shrugged, beginning to turn around, only to laugh when I feel her hand wrap around my wrist and tug me back. "You know that's not what I mean, jackass," she rolls her eyes. "I thought you were coming back tomorrow."
I tucked my hands in the pockets of my jeans, rolling my shoulders in another shrug. "Took less time than I thought to get back. Anyway, I do have a lot of unpacking to do; I just stopped by to say 'hi'." "Oh," she mumbles, and I pretend that I didn't notice the flash of disappointment on her face. "Well, I'll let you get to it. See you tomorrow like we planned?" "Of course," I grinned, and she returned the gesture in a closed-mouth smile.
We hugged before parting ways, but I stop when I open my door and glanced at her one last time. She oozed disappointment, and I knew she was bummed that I was leaving so soon. I leaned against the roof of my car with my arms folded and scrunched my lips to the side, mulling over our plans.
"Since you clearly missed me so much," I start, "why don't we change it up and have you come over tonight instead?" "Oh, no. Tomorrow is fine," she waves me off, but I can see the infamous tremor of her lips whenever she tries to hide a bashful smile. "You're probably beat from driving." "I'll be fine after a quick nap," I chuckle lightly. "8 o'clock. If for some reason I'm still asleep when you get there, just wake me up." "Great," she scoffs, her eyes rolling skyward. "So, potentially, I gotta deal with your grumpy ass because you want me to disrupt your beauty sleep." I mimic her actions with a roll of my eyes, even though I know she's joking. "See you later," I laugh, getting into my car after she says 'bye'.
Tumblr media
Thwump.
I'm jolted awake, and there's now a dull ache on my face as I rubbed my cheek. I hear a giggle behind me, and I know that it's Jenny, so I couldn't be too mad from this unsuspecting wakeup call...even if it was by a pillow to my face.
"Hey," I croaked, rolling onto my back with a stretch. My heart flutters in my chest when I laid eyes on her cheery smile. "Morning, sunshine," she teases, plopping down on the bean bag chair. "Did you have a good sleep?" I pushed myself into a sitting position, a yawn escaping me as I nodded. She giggles again as I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes with my fist, surely laughing at the rat's nest my hair was.
"Do you always sleep with my shirt as your pillowcase?" She smirks, motioning her head behind me. "Huh?" I furrow my brows at her, turning my head to look down at my pillow. Sure enough, it was her shirt, and my cheeks warm at the realization that I never switched it out for an actual pillowcase like I meant to. My mind scrambled for an excuse—I can't just admit to her that yes, I did in fact use her shirt as my damn pillowcase while I was out on tour.
Why?
Because her perfume lingered on her clothing, and there was always something so soothing about her scent every time I caught wind of it. The warmth of vanilla and the calming notes of sandalwood would encase me each time we hugged, and it was simply intoxicating. Nothing comforted or calmed me down faster, so on the nights where my mind was much too loud after a show, I'd hold my pillow close, imagining it was her in my arms instead. Drinking in her scent quieted my mind faster than a glass of whiskey.
"Oh, that's your shirt? I thought it was one of my thousands of band tees." I tried to play it off; my heart leapt into my throat, hoping she wouldn't see through my bullshit. "I spilled a beer on my pillow on the bus and didn't have a clean case and grabbed a random shirt." "Now that I think of it, I'm pretty sure you gave me that shirt. Makes sense that you'd think it was yours," she shrugs, turning to the blank TV screen. "So, what are we watching?"
I puffed out a breath, relieved she bought my excuse, and reached for the remote to flip on the TV. "I dunno," I yawned once more. "I haven't thought that far ahead. Whatever you wanna watch is fine with me." She takes the remote from me with a hum, starting up and scrolling through Netflix. "21 Jump Street?" "Sure," I flashed her a smile, and she happily starts the movie while I got out of bed to grab the snacks I picked up earlier. She loves gummy bears and cherry Sprite.
I tossed the gummy bears in her lap and handed her the soda when she turned her attention to me. "You didn't have to get me these, Nono," she says, but I knew by the way her eyes lit up that she was thankful for it. "I know," I shrugged and sat back down on my bed, my own drink and snack in hand. “But it’s kind of your thing, just like this is mine,” I chuckle, shaking the jar of communion wafers I held. She laughs, throwing her head back. “I can’t believe you still eat those things. You’re so fucking weird.” I raise my brows to her comment. “Yet you’re still here.” “Shut it,” she retorts, throwing one of her bears at me with that same smile she always tries to hide. I narrow my eyes at her, “Don’t make me take those away from you.”
She smirks and averts her eyes to the screen, settling back into the chair as she chews on the gummies—my stomach swirls with giddiness, just wondering what was on her mind.
We fall into a comfortable silence, nothing but the sounds of the movie and laughter filling the room. That was until I was pelted in the face, not once but twice, by a gummy bear. I slowly turned my head towards her, a phony scowl on my face as she sat there giggling away, but I couldn't keep the expression for long. Not with her, not with the way her contagious laugh ricocheted inside my head and riled up the butterflies in my gut.
I jumped from my spot on the bed and snatched her snack, holding it high over her head when she stands with a pout. “Nono, give those back!” she grumbles, standing on her toes to try to take her bears back, but to no avail. “I warned you that I’d take them away, Jenny,” I laughed, taking a step backwards. She huffed, folding her arms over her chest. “Fine. I’ll take your Jeez-its away.” I snorted. “Go for it.”
She steps to the side and reaches out, trying to maneuver around me to grab the container lying on my bed, but I sidestepped along with her, blocking her. She sighs, throwing her head back in aggravation. “Noah, c’mon. Can I have the gummy bears back, please?” “Since you asked so nicely,” I mused, lowering my arm. She reaches for them; I fake her out and extend my arm behind me. She follows my arm with a grumble, tripping over my feet and into my chest. I instinctively wrapped an arm around her small frame, and we toppled onto my bed in a fit of laughter. “Why do you always do this shit?” she shakes her head at me, trying to contain her giggles. “Just to piss you off,” I tell her nonchalantly, even though my heart was hammering through my chest from her proximity.
I take a deep breath, trying to compose myself, but I can’t help the tingle that courses through my veins when she does nothing but grin at me. A blush coasts across her cheeks, her green eyes illuminated by the LEDs bordering my room as she gazes at me through the sheer blanket of her golden locks. It took every fiber of my being to keep my hand from tucking the strand behind her ear and caress her face that I just knew would feel soft and supple beneath my fingertips.
“Why do you like to piss me off so much?” she snorts, moving her hands to my chest to push herself up; she slips the strand of hair behind her ear. I shrug. “Just because.” “That’s it? ‘Just because’?” she muses, her lips curling into a sly smile, and my stomach churns with nerves.
Because I love to see you smile and laugh as the outcome. I love the way your eyes glimmer and your cheeks tint from it. Because I love… you.
My heart is in my throat thinking these thoughts; I try my hardest to swallow it back down to where it belonged, but I can’t with the way she’s laying on my chest with that goddamn smile. And as apprehensive as I was at this very moment, everything felt so…right. How her small frame fit so perfectly against me, my hand settled in the curve of her back in just the right way, the way she looked at me with those alluring, doe-like eyes with affection…I had to tell her.
“You want me to be honest, Jenny?” “Always, Nono.” I cleared my throat after swallowing harshly, trying to find my voice. “Because I wanna ruin our friendship.” Her head tilts and her brows furrow, trying to understand what I meant. I watched as it clicked in her head with a small gasp, the pink tinge deepening on her cheeks when she mutters a quiet ‘Oh.’ My heart plummets to my stomach, embarrassment immediately settling in—she doesn’t feel the same. “I-I’m sorry, Jenny. I shouldn’t have said anything.” I start to sit up, but she shakes her head at me with a timid grin. “Ruin it.”
She leans closer to me just as my hand cups her cheek delicately, and our mouths crash together. Warmth spreads through my core, and relief drowns out every bit of doubt that was anchoring me down—I feel like I’m soaring as our lips moved together in beautiful synchrony. I wanted to savor every ounce of her when her intoxicating scent infiltrated me, enhancing the sweetness of her luscious lips as she allowed my tongue to taste her.
I knew she wanted this just as badly as I had when she clutched my shirt, and I couldn’t help the low chuckle from rumbling in my throat. She giggles against my lips in response, but neither of us break apart from one another—I swear we were held together by a magnetic force.
There’s a dizziness beginning to encase me and my chest burns, forgetting to breathe. Reluctantly, I separate to gather air in my lungs, and she does the same, smiling at me as she breathes deep. Her lips were plump, her eyes blown with lust, and I couldn’t help the playful grin on my face and the flutter deep in my belly knowing I did that to her.
“What took you so long?” she asks, the bashful tremor on her lips reappearing. I chuckled, trailing my thumb over the apple of her cheek. “I didn’t wanna ruin ruin our friendship, I guess.” “Give me those gummy bears back, and we’ll talk about how ruined this friendship is.” I snort, giving her a light squeeze before reaching out blindly to find the bag of gummy bears. “Here,” I place them on top of her head once I found them. They slide off, spilling all over my bed before she had a chance to stop them from falling and glowers at me. “I hate you.” “No you don’t,” I smirked, pulling her in for another kiss. “I don’t,” she mumbles against my lips, forgetting all about the spilled gummies.

Word Count: 7.5k
A Noah Sebastian x OC Series
× Summary: Noah and his new found (sort of) friend, Persephone, battle the trivial ins and outs of being teenagers in a world that doesn't accept you. They survive together all the way into adulthood - with bouts of loneliness included - where the world is still a fickle bitch.
× Warnings!: language, violence, slowburn, friends to lovers to enemies back to friends, rinse and repeat (not even in that order), eventual smut, sexual themes, etc. Each chapter will have its own set of separate warnings.
× Author Notes: ( 1 ) Here's a long one for ya since I couldn't find a good cut off point! I also don't want to linger too long in the far past, so there will be time jumps coming up. ( 2 ) Don't forget that there will be no smut or sexual descriptions while Persephone is still a minor aka anytime before 2016. ( 3 ) I'm debating whether or not I want to share who I imagine Seph to look like. Hmm...
× Chapter Warnings!: language, brief sexual themes, massive bitchiness
SUMMER OF 2014
FRIDAY JULY 4th
PERSEPHONE
“You're so fucking embarrassing sometimes.”
The words angrily hissed took her by surprise, causing her to abruptly pull her hand away from his chest. Drunken eyes stared down at her, annoyance heavy within them. Persephone wasn't sure why she allowed herself to fall into this trap time and time again; maybe she was a glutton for punishment, or maybe she was just an idiot.
“What?” Her brows furrowed, the confusion and offense written all over her previously joyful features.
“It's like you always just have to be on me, and it's really fucking irritating. Clingy as shit.”
Oh, so that was the game Mason was trying to play? Real rich coming from the same guy who would death glare her all night if she wasn't lingering at his side. God forbid she spend too long talking to her friends or another guy approaches her, even if to just ask where the bathroom was.
Typically, her reaction would be to scoff and walk away, but the couple extra drinks she had downed earlier…they were not working in her favor. Seph promptly closed her mouth, jaw clenching in an attempt to keep her lower lip from quivering. People were starting to look at them now, all because he had raised his voice a bit too much. Something told her that he was looking to cause a scene merely because he could. Why not knock her down a few pegs?
“For fucks sake, Seph, don't start. Don't start that crying shit, seriously.”
Persephone took a step back from him as her hand instinctively flew up to wipe her cheek of a stray tear. Fuck, why was she crying? Over Mason? He was definitely not someone for her to waste tears on, though her inebriated mind was currently telling her otherwise.
A harsh laugh then echoed around her, starting with Mason and drifting along his couple of buddies that stood near them. Oh how badly she wanted to ring his stupid neck right then. Instead of giving that drastic of a reaction, she figured flinging what remained of her drink at him - cup and all - was the best course of action. Was it? Probably not. After all, this was Mason’s way of punishing her for how she didn't ‘back him up’ at Ruffilo’s days ago.
Yeah, he was that kind of guy who just had to hold ridiculous grudges all because his ego was hurt.
“The fuck?!” Mason exclaimed, followed by another rant of profanities, but Seph was already pushing her way out of the party.
And that's the story of how she had ended up in the passenger seat of Noah’s car an hour or so later. She had yet to divulge this information to him, and she honestly wasn't sure if she ever would. There was no reason for her to unload onto him, not when her issues were more than likely of no interest to him. No, she would hold it in, just as she did everything else weighing on her.
“I'm sorry for all of this,” she eventually breathed out upon realizing they were sitting idle in front of her house. It was then that she finally looked over to where he sat, their eyes immediately meeting because Noah had been staring at her. Much to her surprise, he didn't quickly avert his gaze as he usually would when she caught him lingering a bit too long.
“I’d usually wait until we've been friends for a couple of months before hyperventilating in front of you.”
That was a bad attempt at a joke in hopes that it would lighten the mood. She even tossed in a small chuckle, just for the sake of it all.
Thankfully, Noah followed suit with a soft laugh of his own. “Are you saying we're friends?”
Ah, so he had jokes of his own. That was a relief.
“Only when I need you to drive me home in the middle of the night, obviously.”
They shared within the laughter together before the sounds slowly began to die down and they were left in a brief silence. Seph took this as being the perfect time to unclick her seatbelt, carefully feeding it back to where it would rest without too much unnecessary noise.
“Nah, it's not a problem, for real. I'd rather drive you home than hear Nick write another song about nachos. His hidden talent is finding multiple words that rhyme with ‘salsa’.”
Persephone tilted her head to the side at this, her face scrunching in confusion while another bout of laughter filled the car. “Salsa?” She repeated, head slowly shaking in disbelief. “I…can't even think of one.”
“The guy has a gift! What can I say?”
“Pasta!” She then interrupted in a loud exclamation. This silly little conversation had caused her entire demeanor to perk up, all the thoughts of Mason and his asshole ways being pushed to the back of her mind. Good. That's where he belonged.
“Mufasa!”
“...Mufasa?”
“Yeah…from The Lion King?”
Well, now was a good time to let it be known that she had never seen The Lion King, or really any Disney movies aside from the princess ones. This probably explained a lot more about her adolescence than she was willing to admit.
“You've never seen The Lion King? You've got to be shitting me. Where is your culture?”
Most would assume that Noah’s words were harsh, but his tone fully said otherwise. He was still poking fun at her. Still lifting the mood the best to his abilities. Words couldn't even express how thankful she was for him at that moment. In response to his statement, Persephone shrugged while beginning to gather her bag that had been resting at her feet.
“I guess you'll just have to show it to me sometime.”
Wait…was she hitting on Noah? No, certainly not. Right?
Before they could dive too deep into that, she was opening the door to his car and slipping out. “Thank you again,” she smiled as she stood within open view. Her fingers nervously tapped along the metal, their stares holding. With that, she nodded and closed the door.
“Text me when you're home!” She heard herself calling out after bringing two fingers to her forehead to lazily salute him a goodnight.
Oh, that was a little embarrassing. Cheesy, even.
“Get it together, Seph,” she muttered to herself while shuffling her keys around in her grasp in search of the one to her front door.
SUNDAY JULY 19th
NOAH
It's kinda funny how a person you've never really spoken to in the past, can suddenly begin to take up so much of your time. They're a force that encompasses your waking moments, every spare hour involving them in some way, shape, or form. Take Persephone, for example. She had been coming to the restaurant a lot more with claims that it was the best place for her to study, though he barely saw her flip a page. Once his shift was over, he would end up in the booth with her, chatting away about nothing in particular. Nick would join in most of the time, but there were moments that he could sense his best friend was keeping his distance on purpose.
When they weren't talking in person, they were through texts. Seph had a way of sending random messages throughout the day, the majority of them consisting of whatever thought was currently in her head. No matter how random or outlandish. Of course he didn't mind, though. Noah liked being that person for her.
Then there were the rare occurrences when Seph would text him to come over. He had been nervous as fuck the first time this happened, even opting to not tell his friends about it just because he didn't want some lecture about ‘status’ again. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?), he never made it inside her house. They would hang out in his car, which he found rather odd, but Seph explained that it was comfortable to her. A happy place, for lack of a better term. How ironic given cars still terrified him. If they weren't in his car, then they were in her backyard. The land was just as he had imagined it to be: tall privacy fence, a massive pool, decent sitting areas, and of course a garden that surrounded the entire perimeter. It was leaps and bounds different from what he was used to. Seph revealed to him that the only thing she actually liked about it was the garden. The rest could ‘fall into a sinkhole for all she cared’. Her words, not his.
“This is actually your band?” Seph had asked in awe one night after he came running at her call. She was laid back in the passenger seat of his Honda with only portions of her face illuminated by the street light, though it was enough for him to see the genuine interest displayed.
“Yeah,” Noah laughed, thumb tapping rhythmically along with the beat against his steering wheel. “Why do you sound so surprised by that?”
“I mean…” he continued before she could respond. “It's just a demo so the production is kind of shit, but we're working on tha-”
“Noah, take a breath.”
Let's not talk about the way his name sounded on her lips.
“I like it…believe it or not.” Persephone was now looking up to the roof of his car, her fingertips also strumming along to the beat on her chest. She looked almost peaceful, which was a little odd with the metalcore music currently blasting in the enclosed space.
“Your voice is…well, I like it too.”
With all of that being said, this is the part where his new friendship takes its first turn for the worst.
It was mid-afternoon that Sunday when he spotted her a bit in the distance. Noah didn't want to admit that he could probably pick her out in a crowd within three seconds, but…he definitely could. There was just something about Persephone that drew the eye. She was sitting alone outside of one of those overpriced cafe sort of places, the kind that sell decent sandwiches and soups, but not when it came to the yearly salary you'd be forking out to enjoy it. Of course his first instinct was to approach her, but as his steps continued, Nick abruptly tugged him aside.
“What the hell?” Noah looked to his best friend’s hand grabbing the sleeve of his shirt before glancing back in the direction they had been traveling. Seph was no longer alone, but accompanied by a man and a woman, those of which he assumed to be her parents.
“I wouldn't, man.” Nick shook his head before motioning with a nod for them to head the opposite way.
Noah just looked at him rather lost. Why couldn't he go say hi?
As if he could read his mind, Nick heavily sighed, his eyes widening with an urgency that screamed 'let's fucking go’. But, as most know, Noah was stubborn. He was also a teenage boy that couldn't think clearly when a cool and pretty girl was involved.
Nick didn't attempt another protest. He simply released Noah and stood back, allowing him to make his own idiotic mistakes.
“Seph, hey,” he smiled while approaching the table she sat at with her family. Their conversation paused, all three now looking his way. Her parents appeared confused by the interruption, while Seph was…scared? Nervous? He couldn't quite place what emotion was currently on her face.
“Sorry to interrupt, Nick and I were just walking and saw you. Figured I'd pop over.” Noah chuckled, his nerves really getting the best of him. What was this voice he was using? What was he saying? Jesus, was this how he was going to be in front of parents?
“Oh, um…hey,” Seph ripped her eyes from him to glance at her parents, her hands falling to her lap.
Noah could only assume she was right on the verge of scratching at her thigh. Shit. What had he done?
“Ah…and you are?” The man spoke up first, his tone already filled with judgment.
“He’s just a guy that works at that diner me and Maisie go to sometimes.” Seph replied before he could, quickly explaining away his presence.
“Not the one that Maisie said was watching you that day, right?” Although Persephone’s mom tried to speak in a hushed tone, he heard her loud and clear. His so-called ‘friend' opened her mouth to speak, but nothing really came out but a syllable or two. Alright, he had seen enough already. No point in dragging out the torture.
Noah was praying that no one else could overhear their conversation because he was already dying enough from embarrassment. Just a guy? The fact that that's how Seph would describe him was hurtful, though deep down he knew he shouldn't be surprised. After all, Nick had tried to warn him.
“I actually just wanted to let you know, since you're a frequent patron, that we're going to be closed for the next…” he briefly paused to think. “Well…indefinitely. So, yeah, no need to stop in or anything.”
They were all looking at him odd now. Seph herself had squinted her eyes at him in further confusion, though he was sure she would eventually figure out what he was trying to say. She was smart. She could decipher the message.
“Honestly, you should probably walk on the opposite side of the street for a while. Don't even go near the building because…there's going to be construction and all that shit happening.” Long legs walked him back a couple of feet as the words continued to spew from him. He probably should've stopped while he was ahead, but his anger was getting the best of him. With that, Noah took one last look at Seph and then turned to collect Nick so they could get the hell out of there.
“Not a fucking word,” he snapped at his friend through slightly gritted teeth.
WEDNESDAY JULY 22nd
PERSEPHONE
How exactly do you apologize to someone while also having to explain that you're just an asshole? That's the current predicament she was in.
Only three days had passed since her parents' first encounter with Noah, and each day she felt worse and worse. She should've handled it better. She should've been nicer. She should've been a goddamn friend, but no. All she was concerned with was avoiding judgment filled conversations with her parents. Those were usually the only talks they would have to begin with, so she didn't want to add fuel to their fire. Not when they were already on her case about literally everything else.
Was it worth it?
No.
“Jesus, your room is a disaster.”
Seph looked up from her phone, her thumbs halting their hovering dance over the keyboard as she tried to put her thoughts into words. It just wasn't happening. Maisie now had her attention, as did the disgusted look she wore. Okay, so maybe her room had gone a little downhill in the last week or so. It was typically pristine, the kind of room where everything had a proper place. But now? Well, the floor was littered with clothes - both clean and dirty - and the studies her parents forced her to do over the summer were scattered across her desk. Don’t ask. It was some ‘extended education’ program her father had taken a liking to when he was in Japan the previous year.
“You're going to have it straightened before your party, right?”
Taking a deep breath, she nodded at her best friend’s scolding. “Yes, mom, I'm going to have it clean by this weekend.”
Maisie flashed a smug grin before her gaze lowered down to the phone Seph still held. Her brow quirked curiously, a few steps now being taken closer to where she sat atop her bed.
“Are you texting my brother?”
Gross, definitely not. They had barely spoken since the incident on the Fourth, and that's basically how she wanted to keep it. She would play nice when it came to parties and what not, but socializing outside of that? Not happening. She was done letting Mason walk all over her.
“Nosy much?” To cut the impending tension, Persephone smiled and then tossed her phone aside in a nonchalant manner. She wanted to show that whatever she was doing on her phone wasn't important.
Maisie shrugged, her greedy fingers sifting through the clothes hanging in her closet. “Just wondering since he's been kinda weird since you two had your little spat.”
“It wasn't a spat,” she quickly retorted.
“Oh my god, you know what I mean.” Maisie rolled her eyes, following it with a heavy sigh of faint annoyance. “He was an ass but you know how he is already.”
Persephone wanted to challenge her statement. Just because Mason was a known jackass, that meant he could talk down to her in front of all of their friends? That logic didn't add up.
Note to self: don't use that excuse when apologizing to Noah.
“What are you wearing this weekend?” Maisie was focused back on her wardrobe, the important topics left behind to never be picked up again.
Before she could respond, she heard her mother's voice calling up the staircase to her. She released a sigh of her own, holding a finger up to Maisie that told her to ‘hold on’ as she tended to the woman’s requests.
“Be right back, gotta see what the snow queen wants.”
Disappearing down to the main floor of her house, she was none the wiser to Maisie growing increasingly curious about the contents of her phone. It took less than ten seconds for her friend to figure out the password to her phone, and then only an extra minute to see all the messages exchanged recently with Noah that she needed to. If you were to ask Maisie, she would say she had hit the jackpot.
Upon her return, Maisie was back in her closet, though she was now going through the multitude of bathing suits she owned.
“I don't know why she insists on going over the 'ground rules’ every time she and my dad take a trip. It's literally every week. Like I could ever forget.”
Persephone huffed as she approached the large walk in closet, a hand resting on her hip. She gave her best friend a puzzled look since she was holding up a rather skimpy bikini set she hadn't even ripped the tags off of yet.
“You should wear this one to the party.” Maisie shifted it in front of her, pretending to imagine how it would look before giving a satisfied nod.
“You see those tags? Yeah, those are still there because my parents would literally murder me if they ever caught me in that.”
“So? They're not going to be here. What they don't know won't hurt them.”
Seph pursed her lips in thought, briefly studying the high cut cheeky bikini bottom. Would she even feel comfortable wearing it in front of a large group?
“Ugh, what's been up with you, Seph? You're such a buzzkill lately.”
Right, because when she wasn't constantly on, that meant something was wrong. When she just wanted to sit around and not hang out, that automatically meant she was boring and bland. How could she have forgotten?
“Fuck you,” Seph forced a laugh while snatching the bathing suit from Maisie’s outstretched hand.
“Atta girl.”
SATURDAY JULY 25th
“Shoootttsss!!” Maisie’s voice erupted across the backyard.
Persephone grimaced as soon as she tossed her head back and the horrid alcohol met her tongue. Her face scrunched in disgust, though she was quick to bring her cup filled with fruit punch up to chase it down.
Fuck, that was gross. The trick, or so she had been told, was to just take another shot immediately after, though. Why? Because the burn was already lessened from the first one. Duh. So, that's what she did.
The party was already thriving and it wasn't even ten yet. This was definitely her most successful one of the summer, and she would be lying if she said she didn't feel a little proud. Everyone loved having their ego stroked every now and then. But even with all the people she was surrounding herself with, she couldn't fight the urge of just wanting to be curled up alone. Maybe a movie playing in the background to drown out the static in her head.
If only.
With some Top 40 pop song on the speakers, Maisie grabbed her hand and immediately pulled her closer. They were all laughs as they danced and sang along together, just as they typically did at parties. It was nice to not have to worry about Mason getting mad at her all because she was trying to have fun. After the week she had, she deserved it. And it was also an added plus  to have a seemingly normal interaction with Maisie. Maybe things weren't as fragile between them as she was beginning to think. Why she cared so much was a mystery, though.
And no, she still hadn't figured out the best way to apologize to Noah.
That was just one more thing she wasn't trying to dwell on. Seph wanted to enjoy herself. She wanted to let loose for the first time in what felt like weeks without all of her worries crashing down upon her. College applications? Pft, right to the back of her mind. Her parents? They were locked there with the former. Noah? Okay…that one was a little harder to forget about it, even just for a moment.
It became even harder when she flipped her hair out of her face and took a glance across the lawn, her honey eyes landing straight on the tall figure who had been occupying her thoughts. He was accompanied by a few other guys, all of them looking fully out of place. Well, except for the shortest one who held a goofy grin and already had a beer in his hand.
“Noah?” Her dancing slowed before coming to a complete stop as she murmured his name to herself. A part of her wasn't even sure if he was real, or if her slightly drunk brain was playing tricks on her.
Maisie eventually paused as well once she realized her dance partner was now much more interested in something else. It was hard for her to hide her smirk as phase one of her plan fell perfectly into place. Guess that proved Seph wasn't seeing things.
“Oh! I invited him! Told him to bring people!” Maisie exclaimed loud enough to be heard over the music. “You two are friends, yeah? I thought it would be fun!”
Her bitch of a best friend sure did look rather proud of herself. So much for things not being fragile.
Seph carefully dislodged herself from the other as to not raise concerns of her tanking mood. She wasn't upset to see Noah. No, it was actually quite the opposite. She wanted to see his face again, but she didn't want it to be like this. Maisie obviously had something up her sleeve and she truly didn't want Noah getting caught in the crossfire of it all. Out of everyone she knew, he was the least deserving of such pettiness.
Without even another glance to her ‘friend', she casually strolled up to the group of tattooed guys, slowly sipping from the drink she was nursing. Seph wanted to appear relaxed, though she was sure Noah could feel the anxiety that was coming off of her in waves. He always had a knack for doing so.
“This place is niiiice.” The shorter guy she didn't recognize complimented as soon as she was in earshot. She smiled the best she could, nodding to his words.
“Yeah, make yourself at home.” Seph motioned back to the party playing out all around them, from the drinking games to the pool, she was giving them freedom to it all. “Go crazy.”
Three of them were quick to scurry away, but of course Nick lingered. He looked just as much on edge as Noah did, though she assumed it had nothing to do with the party and more so her. But still, they made eye contact and she offered a smile to show her harmless intentions.
“Look, I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt this time.” Nick took a slight step towards her, though it wasn't to intimidate her. She knew he just wanted to show that he was protective over his best friend. Honestly, Seph wished she had a friend like him.
But you did, and you ruined it.
With her smile lingering, she nodded in understanding. “You're a peach. Now go.”
With Nick joining in on the fun, this left just her and Noah standing awkwardly together. She could feel people staring at them, and because of this she made sure her stance was casual. Just two people talking at a party. Nothing more to it. Seph really did wish she didn't care so much about the thoughts of other people. It was exhausting, to say the least. Her own brain was always running at full speed, worrying internally about if she looked okay or if her clothes were good enough, or if she was smart enough. It was never ending.
“Hi.” She was looking up at him, though Noah was glancing elsewhere. He was scoping out the party, taking note of the faces and all the different commotions happening.
When he didn’t say anything, she took in a deep breath, a swallow of her to drink to follow. “Can we talk?” She finally asked, the question drawing his attention. Noah pushed his hair back from his face, and she couldn't help but to wonder if he was purposely taking his time with responding.
“I think I'm going to enjoy the party for a bit.”
Then he was gone, gently slipping by her to find his friends at a beer pong set up on the opposite side of the pool.
What the hell just happened? Had Noah really been the one to walk away from her?
No, that's not the mindset she was going to have.
Alright, so maybe she did deserve that at the very least.
NOAH
“I did it,” he announced in a hushed tone to Nick as he approached his side of the long table. His friend glanced at him, but his main focus was on the cups set up on the opposite end of the table where Folio and some random party goer stood.
“She asked if we could talk and I didn't give in.”
“Dude, see? I knew you could do it.”
It’s important to let it be known that Nick didn't dislike Seph…not completely. He sure as hell didn't like the bullshit she was putting Noah through but there was a part of him that kind of understood. The social status around here, especially at their ages, was greatly discussed and worried over. Seph was merely a product of her environment, though anyone who truly spoke to her would be able to tell that she wasn't one of those uptight types. Sure, she had her moments, but they all did. They were all guilty of following the status quo.
“Shit,” Nick winced as the ball he had tossed bounced off the rim of a back cup, forcing Folio to go running for it.
“You’re fucking terrible at this,” he laughed at his best friend before nudging him over a bit so he could see straight down the table. Once it was their turn again, Noah sank two of the ping pong balls with ease, leading them closer to their first victory of the night.
For most of the night, the majority of the people at the party kept their distance. Noah couldn't shit on them for it because he would've done the same had their roles been reversed. With that being said, there were a handful of Richmond elites who were actually kind of decent. They'd all chat, drink, partake in games to do more drinking, there were even some laughs tossed in. That didn't mean Noah was too distracted throughout the night to not notice Persephone. As he had stated before: she had a way of drawing the eye.
“A band?!”
Noah looked back to see Folio chatting it up with some dark haired girl who wore an expression of pure excitement. Her hand was on his bicep and he was leaning in closer than necessary, which told Noah all he needed to know. Good on him.
Chuckling to himself, Noah shook his head before taking another swallow from the beer he had been working on. He wanted to take the drinking slow that night, especially since he knew he would eventually fall victim to Seph's request of them talking. He could only remain strong and stoic for so long when it came to her.
And as if on cue, his name being called by the girl in question garnered his attention.
“Noaahhh,” she spoke in a sing-song type of voice. His eyes dropped down to where he found Seph lounging in the shallow end of the pool, her arms folded across the ledge with her chin resting atop them. She was looking at him, a smile tugging slightly at the corners of her lips, though her eyes appeared a little dazed.
Obviously Seph was no longer walking in the realm of the sober.
“You should get in,” she requested, beckoning him forward with a bend of her finger.
Noah laughed and his free hand rubbed along his chest with a playful taunt. “Oh no, believe me, no one wants to see this pale string bean glowing in the moonlight.”
It took Seph a moment to process his words - more than likely trying to determine what he meant - but once she had it, she rolled her eyes at him in an equally playful manner. “Maybe I do,” he heard her mutter, though it was mostly drowned out by the sound of someone cannon-balling into the deep end. So, he decided to leave the topic alone.
Persephone then moved along the edge of the pool until she reached the steps that would lead her out. He had to quickly look away as she emerged from the water because the swimsuit she was adorned in left very little to the imagination. And goddamn, did he have a wild imagination at times. As much as he wanted to stare, he also wanted to be respectful. No way was he going to let himself fall into the same fuckboy category as the other guys who were openly checking her out.
“You okay?” She laughed while approaching him, a towel now in her grasp that she was using to dry the upper portions of her body.
No, he was fucking not okay. He was currently trying to fight off every teenage urge he had, but thanks for asking.
“Yeah, I'm good. The party is dope, Seph. Thank your friend for the invite.”
Noah could sense her brief shift of emotions. The smile she wore faltered at the mention of the invite, though she was quick to cover it by walking by him to snag her shorts from a lounge chair.
Oh thank god, she was going to cover up before he lost his mind.
“I'll definitely be sure to let her know.”
Was there some animosity in those words of hers? He figured it was nothing, so he didn't press the topic. Plus, he was sure he wouldn't get much information out of her when she was in her current state. While Seph probably thought she was composing herself pretty well, he was very much aware of the slight sway in her stance and the way she had to take a moment before placing her second leg into her shorts and pulling them up.
“Let's get a snack.”
Again motioning for him to follow her, Noah couldn't think of a reason not to this time. It wasn't like he didn't want to, though he was still trying to keep a distance between them after what had happened. But, much to his dismay, he couldn't deny her again. Noah would give her the damn world on a serving dish if he had the ability to.
Now inside the house, he noticed it was much tamer compared to outside. There was no music playing, only the residual sound of what was thumping through the speakers outside drifting in. A few people lounged around on the couch and on the floor, all of them watching whatever movie was playing on the large television.  None of them were even concerned about the couple making out on a chair. Huh, okay then.
“Cookie?”
Noah turned just in time to see Seph extending a hand out to him, a brightly sprinkled cookie in her grasp. He was going to say no, but the look she had in her eyes as she bit into the snack of her own was all he needed to change his mind. Chuckling under his breath, he took the cookie from her, but didn't yet dive into it.
“What did you want to talk about earlier?”
Okay, so he knew this conversation was probably going to go nowhere since alcohol was involved but he was still curious. How was she going to explain away the little encounter with her parents? He couldn't wait to hear it.
Seph opened her mouth, but the back door opening cut her off before she could say anything. In walked a couple of girls, each of them shuffling into the living room with a fit of giggles. It only took this happening one more time before the girl in front of him huffed with annoyance, her hands thrown up in defeat.
“Let's just go upstairs. People know it's off limits so it'll be quieter.”
There were alarm bells going off in his head, but Seph didn't wait for him to respond. She was already exiting the kitchen with the assumption he would follow her…which he did. Going upstairs was a bad idea. Being alone upstairs was an even worse idea. Every logical brain cell was screaming at him to turn around and go find his friends, but what did he do? Sure as hell not that. No, he continued to trail behind her, right into her bedroom.
PERSEPHONE
“I'm sorry,” she suddenly blurted out as soon as she had closed the door a bit behind them.
“I was an asshole the other day and I've been trying to figure out how to apologize all week but nothing felt right or sounded right. My parents are just…really strict and hard on me…I know that's not an excuse but I didn't want them to have the chance to offend you.”
The words were coming from her a mile a minute, every thought in her head just exiting without a care in the world. Noah remained still through it all, allowing her as much time as she needed to get it all out.
“They know how to ruin everything they don't approve of, you know? Always an opinion about the things I do, how I dress, what I eat…it's really fucking annoying. They suck the fun and excitement out of everything! The last thing I wanted was for them to have that power about you too.”
Seph abruptly stopped in front of him when she realized she had been pacing back and forth. She took in a deep breath and slowly exhaled, as if that would help calm the overbearing thoughts spinning within her head.
“Why even give them the ability to do that?”
“I don't give it to them,” she tried to explain. “I just don't have any way of stopping them from doing it. They're my parents, Noah. I need them, at least for the next couple of years.”
They shared a long stare, neither speaking for a moment. She knew Noah was trying to comprehend what she was saying, but just like everyone else, he wouldn't be able to. People figured that she was perfect, inside and out, all because she had rich parents and the means to do anything she wanted. In reality, she was far from perfect and kept on a short leash, despite what the fun parties projected. It was all just a part of what she wanted the outside world to see.
Seph took a step forward, nearly tripping over her own feet as she did. Thankfully, Noah was quick to grab onto her arm, this being the only thing that kept her from toppling down to the floor.
“Whoa, careful. Let's sit you down.” He guided her to the edge of her bed where she heavily dropped herself, pulling him down along with her so he was sitting too.
“I'm sorry, Noah,” she repeated again, this time her voice cracking from all the emotions now swelling within her. “I messed up, I know. Please just say you forgive me, though.”
“Yeah, Seph, yes, I forgive you. It's whatever. Let me get you some water, though.”
There was a rush of relief that suddenly washed through her as soon as he said those words. Maybe it was just because she was drunk, but that was the best thing she had heard all week. Her arms immediately circled around the back of his neck, pulling herself close against him for a hug that kept them flush against each other. Seph could feel Noah’s hesitancy from the way his body froze and tensed, clearly not expecting the affection. Eventually, his hands stopped hovering and finally laid light as a feather on her waist. Her skin was bare still, since she hadn't fully redressed from the dip in the pool, so it was probably obvious when chills formed over the areas he touched.
Persephone pulled back the slightest amount, just enough so her eyes could find his. She glanced between them only for a brief moment, and then her lips were abruptly crashing against his. Again, she felt him hesitate, even going so far as to break the kiss to murmur something about her being drunk, but she couldn't stop herself from closing the space once more. Seph untangled her arms from the back of his neck so that her hands could slide around his jaw, both deepening the kiss and making sure no room remained between them. All she wanted was Noah as close as humanly possible right then. She could feel his grip tighten on her waist and then his fingertips were dragging down along her lower back, pausing when he came into contact with the material of her shorts.
Hands that previously held his face started their trek downwards, reaching and tugging at his shirt as a silent way of saying that she wanted it off. Noah was thankfully able to pick up on what she was saying, and soon his t-shirt was being tossed aside. That was much better. Now she could really feel him and the heat he radiated.
Things were moving faster than she had anticipated and a little voice inside of her was telling her it was best to stop. It wouldn't be good for her first time to be when she was drunk and had loads of people in her backyard still. Those were the only regrets she would have, though. Noah would definitely not be one of them.
“This is golden, Seph. Really.”
The unexpected voice caused her to jump and part ways from Noah as he did the same in unison. He had somehow hopped up to his feet in record time, his back to the intruder so he could adjust himself and also pull his shirt back on.
Maisie stood in the doorway with a devious smirk, and her phone out and pointed directly at them. “Oh, no, don't stop on my account. It was just getting good.”
“What the actual fuck?” Seph exclaimed while standing from the bed and rushing towards the girl, just before making a vain attempt at snatching her phone away. Of course she wasn't successful. “Did you just record us? What is wrong with you?”
A fit of laughter exploded from her, the phone now being held back and out of reach. “What's wrong with me? What's wrong with you? Has your self esteem really dipped so low that you have to entertain trash to feel better about yourself?”
Seph scoffed in disbelief, her mouth falling open in shock for what Maisie was saying. “Don't talk about him like that. Say whatever you want about me, but leave Noah out of this.”
“Why? So he can see how nice of a person you are? So you can continue to fool him into thinking you're one of the good ones? Spare me, Seph!”
Maisie now averted her gaze to Noah who was decent again and looking back and forth at the two girls in utter confusion. She gave him a pitiful look, one that was obviously mocking. “Seph here is just as mean as the rest of us. That hasn't changed just because she's become dull and boring within the last year. How else do you think we've been friends for so long?”
“Shut up, Maisie.”
“We're one in the same, baby.”
Seph made another attempt at grabbing her phone, but Maisie pushed against her chest to keep the distance intact.
“Give me the phone. This isn't funny. Just delete it!”
“I think I'll show Mason first, just because it'll be funny to torment him about how long he's been trying to get into your pants when Noah over here almost succeeds in less than a month.”
Maisie really appeared to be enjoying this. She was smiling and laughing, all of these reactions quite genuine for her. She was obviously sick and cruel - two things Seph would never stoop to. No matter how much Maisie claimed they were the same.
“Oh! Your parents!” Maisie gasped with her sudden realization, her face further lighting up. “They'd probably love to see what their little angel is up to when they're gone too.”
Noah was at her side, his hand firmly grabbing her arm that she hadn't realized was topped with a balled up fist. Honestly, he should've just let her hit Maisie and ruin the nose job her parents gifted her the year before. That surely would've ended in their victory right away. But no, Noah had to make sure she wasn't further incriminating herself.
“Why are you even doing this? What the hell have I ever done to you? What has Noah done to you?”
“Just go, Maisie. You got what you wanted, so leave.” Noah and her spoke on top of each other, each of them searching for different outcomes.
Maisie squinted at him, her brows then raising as if she was taken back by him even speaking to her. “This doesn't concern you, Noah. It's not about you. You're just collateral damage.”
“I want my best friend back.”
This time, it was Seph’s turn to break out into laughter. Was she being fucking serious? All of this was happening because she missed her? God, Maisie couldn't be anymore fucked up.
“Get out,” she spoke through gritted teeth. “Get out! Tell everyone to get the fuck out!”
Seph slammed the door, causing herself to stumble back a bit from the force. Tears began welling in her eyes, though she was trying her best to blink them away. Maisie wasn't a bluffer. She would do exactly as she had said, and then what? It wasn't Mason that she gave a shit about, but her parents. Their potential reaction was what terrified her.
Stepping deeper into her room and further away from Noah - who was trying his best to comfort her but she couldn't make out the words - she dropped her face into the palms of her hands. Her shoulders began to lightly shake with her sobs, everything just becoming too much at once. The alcohol coursing through her system definitely didn't help.
“Seph…” Noah cooed in a soothing tone, his hand coming up to rest upon her shoulder. “Hey, it's going to be okay. Do you want me to get her phone? I will, I'll -”
“Nothing is okay!” Persephone shrugged away from his touch, quickly turning to look directly at him. “Everything is fucked, Noah! Do you not get that?!”
The only person she truly cared about appeared as if he had just been slapped in the face. He blinked at her, shocked by the fact that her anger was being directed towards him now. Persephone felt bad, she really did, but everything else she was feeling overpowered that and took charge.
“Just…go, Noah.” She spoke in a calmer tone after having taken a deep breath, her voice still wavering.
“I'm not going to go, Seph. Stop. Let me help.”
“I don't need your help!” Rushing towards her bedroom door, she threw it open just so she could motion for him to go through it. “Please, just go.”
Had Persephone known that this would be the last conversation she would have with Noah for months, she never would've ended it like that.
It was one of her many regrets on the ever growing list.
