Hachi and Nobu: I still believe
This is my headcanon of how the present time fireworks day from manga chapter 42 and anime episode 47 could have ended after they held hands in the bathroom. I started reading Nana when I was 16 in 2002 and I still hope for a continuation of this once in a lifetime masterpiece, for an answer to the many questions 🙏🏻

i want to ask so many nana ships but refraining myself so uhh hachi/nobu and hachi/nana o!
sdhfdh no need to refrain yourself, i am enjoying these!
Hachi and Nobu:
There is no way around it, I love a good the-one-that-got-away story and Hachi and Nobu provide a stellar one. Aesthetically, the runaway rich kid who is a talented punk musician falling in love with the preppy roommate of the vocalist is fanfic material. A fanfic i would sacrifice my sleep schedule for. And they both turn out to be really similar, soft idiots with big hearts? They compliment each other in the best way?
How much better can this get? Then you get hit with ANGST and YEARNING and REMINISCING and!! this is my song. i can dance to it all night.
Not the bubble I created for myself here but I can confidently say fandom ruined Hachi and Nobu by constantly demonizing Hachi and turning Nobu into a victim. I don't wanna get too mad but... how can some people read the same thing as I did and came to these conclusions is beyond me.
Hachi and Nana:
Ookay, I'm just gonna say it: Nana and Hachi's love makes Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy look like acquaintances. "You have bewitched me, body and soul." hmm yeah we get that but did Mr Darcy waited for Elizabeth years after she left and said something even close to "Without Nana, there is no beginning."? I don't think so.
Patroclus may have wore his boyfriends clothes and died on the battlefield impersonating him BUT did he declared his loyalty to Achilles to millions by saying; "Hachi, I will make your dreams come true."? No.
I %100 mean it when I say Hachi and Nana taught me a very profound and real kind of love. Not a (albeit amazing) love story, filled with grande moments to fantasize about but one you can feel in your bones, one you ache for. I love Hachi and Nana's love as much as they love each other.
To tread a love so poignant and tragic while managing to keeping it mundane is truly something to respect. Nana and Hachi crams this immense love in their ordinary interactions. Making a friend giving her friend a cpr as striking as a lover dying in battle field for the other... I don't know what Yazawa put in this manga but in my book, what keeps NANA unprecedented to this day is Nana and Hachi's utter devotion, dare I say submission to each other masterfully folded into heartfelt and ordinary moments.
