Please, we need your help!

We alone in Hong Kong do not have enough power to pressure the government to listen to people’s real voice. They are ignoring us, and worse, they are shooting the protestors with rubber bullets and bean bag bullets! (Those are not “real bullets”, but are potentially fatal too.)

We are aware that comparing with protests occur in other parts of the world, we don’t have as much violence and injuries. We are also aware that, we do not want to hurt each other and even sacrifice lives to protect our freedom and rights!!

That is why we ask for help. We hope that you can support Hong Kong people with protests, and call for attention from your society and country to pressure Hong Kong government. At the very least, please share this message and other news and information about our protest!

The Hong Kong Government has proposed a bill to amend the Fugitive Offenders Ordinance, which will allow the Government to extradite fugitive offenders to countries or regions without Extradition Agreements with Hong Kong, including the rest of the People’s Republic of China.

The Bill will also remove the legislature’s power to scruntize such extradition arrangements, thereby centralizing the decision-making to the executives.

This controversial Bill would allow the authorities in the People’s Republic of China to arrest people in Hong Kong, or even confiscate their properties, through issuing Extradition Requests to the Hong Kong Government.

Therefore, we urge the US Government to voice opposition on such amendments, and review the existing Extradition Agreement with Hong Kong.

I have to share what’s happening in my hometown right now, because I can't be sure if I still can tell the truth, or even access on the internet in the future.

Hong Kong citizens has been lived under the threat of our own democracy and freedom of speech (not about the political correctness opinions, but the basic human rights of call out injustice authority without worries for personal safety in this situation) being taken away once the governance of People’s Republic of China take over. This is the least thing we ever asked for.

Unfortunately, the song is labelled as a pro-independence song in the Mainland, and to be perfectly honest, the song does show traces of this, some even declaring this to be our "national" anthem. I do like the song, but I'm not pro-independence…at least, not until I have a legitimate reason to support it. (My question: what about the US State songs? Are THOSE pro-independence?)

Hong Kong has resorted to pasting post-it notes all over China's car in protest. China is not amused.

Look here, I just passed the Mongkok Lennon Wall, and it has spread much further than I past saw it in July. Mainly because of recent events.

It all started after a 19 year-old Hong Kong male murdered his 20 year-old girlfriend in Taiwan, and he fled back to Hong Kong. Since the incident happened in Taiwan, Taiwan officials was unable to charge the person murder since there was no proper extradition deal between Hong Kong and Taiwan. Hong Kong government later proposed a bill that was designed to plug the loophole by allowing Hong Kong to decide case-by-case whether to send back fugitives to territories that were not in the extradition deal such as Taiwan, Macau, and Mainland China. However, the bill did not include an opened fair trial in the bill. Hence, many concerns that it may affect the legal system in Hong Kong as the bill may include democracy activists from Mainland China.   More than a million of people gathered on Wednesday to peacefully protest against the bill. They took over the streets, hoping there was a chance to change government's mind; however, the government refused to withdraw the bill and calls the demonstration "a riot". Police came in action and started using tear gas, pepper spray and rubber-bullets-loaded gun to push back the protesters. 72 people ranged from 16 to 55 year old were injured according to the report. The fact that the government could ignore more than a million of their people's opinion is making me very sad. It is just like the umbrella movement back in 2014 when China did nothing about the demand of a more democratic voting system. A lot of Hong Kong people lost their faith because of that, but they still decided to have their voice heard again because this is important. といった内容のメッセージが香港人の友人たちから相次ぐ。 「何してるんだ！早くこい！」と。6月9日にあった100万人参加のデモの様子を見ていただけに、こりゃ行くしかない。表面上は逃亡犯条例改正に対するデモだが、本当の目的はそれだけではないのは明白。（あとはググってください）

6月11日

連絡をもらったのが未明。取り急ぎチケットを買い、慌ただしく準備。最速のチケットを探すがどれも満席。奇跡的にキャンセル分のチケットが買えた。早朝6時の羽田発便だったので、とりあえずパスポートとカメラ、フィルムを。この日にも抗議デモがあると香港の友人からメッセージを受ける。タクシーとバスを乗り継いで空港へ。

12:00 香港着。まずはバスでシャムシュイポーへ。ここはいつも最初に立ち寄る下町。何も変わらない風景にやや戸惑う。香港は無事だったことに安堵。その後、MongKokにある仲の良いカメラ屋さんへ。写真を撮りに来たというと、クレイジーだなと言われる。いろいろ話を聞いて情報を集める。今夜の集会には参加するの？と聞かれ、うん、と答える。彼らも参加するらしい。

夕方、友人のウィスキーと落ち合い、彼女のスタジオへ。アイリスたちと話す。今日は座り込みをするらしい。彼女たちは準備を始めた。ゴーグル、マスク、そして手製の防具やを取り揃えていたことに驚く。

途中、デモ会場では警察が荷物検査をしていると情報。その対策のためにも準備に時間がかかるということなので、自分はプレスカードとカメラだけでスタジオをあとに。

20:00 抗議活動の現場は、香港島側に位置するCentral地区。立法会（議会）周辺だ。最寄駅はAdmiralty。雨傘運動でCentaral Occupyがあったエリアだ。電車内は普通の人がほとんど。デモ参加者もちらほら。

どの程度の規模でやってるのか不安。そのために来たのだから、と思っていると。駅を降りると構内は参加者でごった返していた。

批判があったからか、警察は荷物検査をやめたらしい。

21:00 立法会周辺で行われている会場周辺を歩いて位置関係を確認する。すでに大勢の参加者や警察が集まり始めていた。

カトリック系の信者が賛美歌を歌っていたのが印象的だった。

宗教的な集会だと抗議活動に合法性を持たせることが可能だから。 香港では宗教的な集会であれば無許可も可能だという。

警察は立法会前で警備中。

22:00 参加者と警察によるちょっとしたもみ合いになり、警察が増員。特に速龍部隊と呼ばれる特殊部隊が増える。催涙弾と思われるライフルや背負うタイプの催涙噴霧器も持ち込み始めた。

その後、アイリスやウィスキーたちと合流。彼女たちは逮捕された場合にどう対処するかhow toのビラ撒きに専念。おおっぴらに配るのではなく、コソコソと人に渡していく。

明日は朝早くから抗議行動を始めるとのこと。その後、こちらは撮影に専念。別行動に。警察がバリケードを持ち込みはじめて、警備強化し始める。

23:00 MongKokのカメラ屋さんのメンバーと合流。アルバイトたちもみんな参加しているらしく、総勢15名ほど。みんな揃ってフィルムカメラを手にしているのがおかしかった。アイリスたちが体育会系だとしたら、こちらは明らかに���化系のメンバー。明日はもっと激しい抗議活動になるらしく、多くの若者が泊まり込むとのこと。

03:00 時間も時間になり、現場に動きがなく、カメラ屋さんたちとタクシーで帰宅。一部のメンバーはそのまま朝を迎えるらしい。 アイリスたちも一度帰宅したようだ。

05:00 ウィスキーのスタジオに宿泊。スマホで日本語での情報収集。就寝。

6月12日

11:00 ウィスキーからの電話で起きる。 「ようやく起きた？もう始まってるよー！」 あちゃー寝坊したか！と急いで準備。出発。

11:30 会場到着。地下鉄から地上に上がるとAdmiraltyはとてつもない群衆。昨日とはまったく風景、空気感が違う。はたして何万人いるのか。そして殺気立っている。 道路にある中央分離帯などは、柵を立てかけて階段に。朝、警察が警備のために用意していた柵を奪いとったようだ。 しかし、すさまじい群衆のなかにもきちんとした秩序があった。手作りの階段の上り下りする参加者をサポートする人員がいたり、ペンチを用意しろ！傘を用意しろ！とジェスチャーをすると、どこからともなく、スルスルと人の手をつたい、それらが運ばれてくる。ペンチは警察のバリケードを解体するため、傘は際榴弾から身を守るために用意しているようだ。 どうやらこれは雨傘運動で得た技術らしい。 群衆の中に物資運搬や急病人を運ぶための通路が空けられていた。

13:00

会場全体をとにかく歩き回って撮影。

香港の友人にメール「人がどんどん増えてくるよ！すごいな！」と送ると、「ゴキブリみたいでしょ、ははは」と返事が。

あちこちで前線のためのバリケードが市民によって作られていた。 一番激しくなりそうなのは立法会正面玄関。しかし人が多すぎて近寄れない。民主派政党が用意したステージもあり、議員がスピーチをしていて、テレビ中継もそこで流れていた。

ウィスキーと落ち合う。朝は市民と警察のちょっとしたもみ合いがあったみたい。途中、怒号も鎮まり返り、座る人が目立つ。

どうやらお昼ご飯休憩。

ウィスキーと離れ、自分も昼ごはんを食べる場所を探す。 地下鉄にあるマクドナルドなどのファーストフードは営業中だが、若者が殺到していた。 諦めて遠くにあるカフェまで歩きサンドイッチを購入。

道路の高架下で休憩。

突然の大雨。そしてピーカン照りの繰り返し。

今日もカソリック系の信者の賛美歌は続く。 友人の一人は、このやり方はクールだと賞賛していた。

14:00 午後3時ぐらいから警察による一斉行動が行われると友人たちから連絡が来る。正面玄関から一番近い、そして一番激しくなりそうな前線のバリケードを選び、そこで待機。 およそ１００m先には大量の警察が準備しているのを昼ごはんで立ち寄ったカフェからの帰りで確認していた。

15:３0 ちょうど後ろ方向にある立法院正面玄関から突然、催涙弾の音とともに煙、叫び声が轟く。 政党のステージにはそれらが映し出される。そのほかのバリケードにも警官隊が攻め入ったようだ。 自分がいる前線もそれらを見た参加者や正面玄関から逃げてきた人たちで一時パニックに。 逃げてきた参加者は、救護班に目を洗ってもらったり、うがいをする。 その光景を見たショックで呼吸困難になっている女の子もいた。

ヘルメットをやマスク用意しろというジェスチャーも。 その間に100mほど離れていた警察はじわりじわりと距離を詰めてくる。

最前線に並ぶ男たちはバリケードを打ち鳴らして士気を高める。傘を集めて催涙弾を防ぐ用意。自分もその辺に転がっていたマスクをつける。

16:00 バリケードから50mほどの距離から警察が催涙弾を打ち込む。 前線はパニックに。その間、大勢の警察、速龍部隊が走り込んで来る。 誰かによる「逃げろ！」の合図、みんなダッシュで後方へ下がる。後方にもいつのまにか、速龍部隊がいて、挟み撃ちに。中央分離帯を頭から飛び越えようとして転ぶひとたちも。それらを撮影。 催涙ガスによって息が吸えないので息を止めて冷静になろうとする。

わかっていたけど、フィルムロールチェンジがやっかいで、隠れてチェンッジ。

逃げる人たち、逮捕されている人たちを撮影。 逮捕された人はなんと報道関係者のジャケットを着ている。 彼は逮捕された時に頭を打ち、脳震盪のせいか、体を激しく震わせていた。 それを押さえつける警察。撮影。これはひどすぎる。

煙幕のせいか、空が暗い。

16:30 群衆は一番広い道路へ逃げる。 そこへも特殊部隊がなだれ込み、何発も催涙弾を打ちまくる。 右手に手袋をして催涙弾を拾って投げ返す者、水で消火活動をする人、様々。 散乱していた物資のなかから、 ヘルメットやゴーグルを拾う。 途中、警察の列の前へ、煙に耐えながら一人の男が歩み寄り、英語で抗議する。

警官隊を指揮していた指揮隊長はイギリス人らしかった。 抗議する男を確保しようと数人の警察が走り込んでくる。 プレスがそれらの前に立ちはだかり、阻止。 無言で警察にレンズを向け続け、警察は怯んで引き下がる。

その間、催涙弾をモロに受け、息が出来ない、目も痛い。 持参していた水でとにかく洗う。 カメラにも水がかかるがそれどころじゃない。 安全な場所を探して隠れる。

群衆は陸橋などの階段に駆け上がり、逃げる。 そこへ催涙弾を打ち込む警察。下からは詳しく見えないが、叫び声などが聞こえる。もし逃げるために陸橋から道路へ人が飛び降りたら、、、と考えると怖い。

カメラのレンズを見ると、水がかかっていたため、レンズフィルターが曇っていた。ショック。これまで撮った写真は大丈夫だろうか。

別の陸橋を駆逐、占拠していた特殊部隊らがコッソリ降りようとしてきた。

参加者が見つけ、傘やヘルメット、ペットボトルを投げ込み、特殊部隊は引き下がる。

17:00 参加者は細い道路、裏道などに逃げ込み、そこでゴミ箱を倒したりその辺にあるもので、即席のバリケードなど作る。警察は威嚇としてプラスチック散弾銃を打ち込む。バリケードを作っては攻め込まれ、逃げ、下がってまたバリケードを作る。

めまぐるしく前線の場所が変わる。市民には武器がなく、どう考えても劣勢。参加者に広東語でまくし立てられるが、理解不能。片言の広東語で「私は日本人」というと「ガンバッテネ」と日本語で返された。

21:00 攻められてはバリケードを作る、ずっとこのような状態の繰り返し。携帯の電池がどんどん減り、心配。電池がなくなったら友人たちの安否確認ができなくなる。節約のために電源オフ、１時間に１度だけメッセージのやりとりのためにONにする。

22:00 ウィスキーは怖いし、気持ちも疲れて帰ったらしい。警察に対して憤ったメールが届く。怪我はしていないようで安心した。

途中、極端に人が減った。 ウィスキーの連絡によると群衆の多くはAdmiraltyから隣駅のWanChai周辺に移ったようだ。

WanChaiまで歩く。 途中、参加者の人たちに話を聞く。 参加者の学生は「こんなことはしたくない、家でテレビ見たり映画を見たりゴロゴロしたい」「普通の生活を守るために戦う」とのこと。 雨傘運動の時のようなリーダーは今回はいないらしい。リーダーを作ればそいつが逮捕されるため。今回はゲリラ戦に徹しているとのこと。 友人たちに連絡、安否確認。

23:00 WanChaiの警察署の前で群衆が取り囲んでいた。警察による暴力的制圧に市民が憤っている。陸橋には大勢の警察が待機している。ライフルあり。

陸橋から特殊部隊が降りてきた。一瞬、緊張感が漂うが、参加者やプレス、酔っ払いが取りかこみ、怒号を浴びせかける。部隊は引き下がり、陸橋へ戻る。

にらみ合いは続く。

24:00 参加者がみんな帰り始めた。

とくにめぼしい動きがないからだという。 野次馬も多いらしかった。集まるときはバーッって集まって、帰るときはさっさと帰るのも香港スタイルか。 自分も地下鉄へ。 他の通りでは酔っ払った欧米人や商売に勤しむ地元人の姿があり、とても奇妙に思うが通りを挟んだら別の世界、これが香港らしさでもある。 電車に乗る。乗っている人たちは普通のひとたち。 九龍半島側では何事もなかったような風景で不思議。 無事帰宅したことをみんなに伝える。

友人の何人かはまだ現場にいるようだが、無事だった。

帰国後、6月16日には200万人が参加する大規模デモが発生。 現在も抗議活動は続いている。
