I'm bored. Here's how I would handle a YGO DM rewrite fic. (Because while I like the idea of doing one, I don't have enough time to focus on something like that and I don't want to deal with the headache of converting all of the old duels to a modern style. The closest I'll probably get is a possible future one shot project.)

Both Yugi and the Kaiba brothers would be half Egyptian, having a similar complexion as the ancient Egypt characters in season 5 of the anime.

I would scrap all of the superfluous side characters like Tristan, Serenity and even Tea. Characters like Duke would be one shots where they show up once and that's it.

I would replace Tea with a reincarnation of Mana along with having some of Kisara and Mahad as side characters. Just because I think a reincarnation of her would tie better with into the story better than Tea ever could.

The main group would be Yugi, Joey and reincarnated Mana.

I would only adapt the arcs in the manga, not the anime filler arcs.

Mai would be aged down to be 18 instead of 24.

Bakura would be non-binary while the Thief King would be a guy.

Malik would be a girl with two other alters thanks to her Dissociative Identity Disorder.

The story would take place in modern times, so plot points like Pegasus duelling Yugi via VHS tape would be changed to him doing that via Zoom call.

The story would set in the US instead of Japan. (Just because it's easier and the version most people grew up with.)

While 90% of the time they will wear “masculine” clothes, they will wear a skirt from time to time. Usually it’s when the weather is too hot. (Not so different than a shendyt and they think guys should stop being such crybabies and wear some too.)

Also unless it’s winter and it’s time for comfy hoodies, the top is always open more than it is conventionally acceptable.

Very important information: The skirt has pockets! (And all their clothes are full of hidden pockets for the stuff they steal from time to time.)
