Hey, sending this off anon so you can answer privately if you wish. I'm really confused about the difference between being anti-Zionist and pro-Palestine. I've been using both interchangeably for myself, but apparently that's incorrect? I don't know who else to ask.

So... I haven't had anon on in like 12 years, I don't do private answers, and I don't talk about I/P online.

But let's talk about a different issue instead. Let's talk about reproductive rights instead, as a means of just talking about why being anti-Thing1 doesn't mean you're pro-Thing2.

(I swear to fuck if anyone comes onto this post and tries to say I made some sort of direct weird parallel between Israel and either of the examples below to try to 'prove' something about me or drag me into stuff I have said I don't talk about, I will yeet them into the fucking sun. The purpose of these examples is solely to use easily-understood references to explain how you can be anti-Thing1 without being pro-Thing2.)

If someone is anti-abortion, that doesn't mean they're pro-parenting or pro-baby. It's about where their focus is, right? Lots of people are just like 'well, we don't think abortions should exist. There should be no abortions.' Well, great. But what's your plan for the people who are pregnant and don't want to be? They're not going to stop existing just because you think abortions shouldn't exist.

But a lot of people who are anti-abortion don't have plans for that. All they have is a firm belief that abortions shouldn't exist. No one should need them, no one should want them, no one has a right to them. All other concerns go by the wayside.

Or the people who live around me who want homeless people off the streets, but have no plan for how to get people off the streets. They just say 'well, there shouldn't be any homeless people on the streets of Portland,' but their answer is fines and jail time. (This is a real thing happening where I live, btw. Fines for daytime camping, as if that's going to help people get off the streets. Now they have a fine they also can't pay with all of the money they don't have.) These people have no plans for affordable housing, they feel like it's perfectly acceptable to define someone as 'turning down' shelter even if that shelter requires you to be inside by 9 PM and the unhoused person doesn't don't get out of work until 11 PM. Their focus isn't on the positive thing -- people obtaining housing security -- it's on the thing they think shouldn't be happening: unhoused people where they have to see them/be inconvenienced by them.

You can be anti-abortion without being even remotely pro-parent or pro-baby. You can be anti-homelessness without being pro-housing security. It's all about what your actual focus is.

In this case, the question you have to ask yourself is: is it more important to me that to be anti-Zionist or to be pro-Palestine? I can't answer that question for you, because, like I said, I don't talk about I/P at all online, and -- more importantly -- it's going to completely depend on how you, personally, define Zionism, let alone anti-Zionism, and how you, personally, define being pro-Palestine.

You're gonna have to wrestle that one out on your own.

The primary purpose of this blog is to facilitate questions that might feel too awkward, embarrassing, or revealing to ask on main. Since this blog receives a lot of submissions, I've had to set some filters on some of the ones that aren't "on topic," so to speak.

Vetoed topics:

Polls that will stir up harm, invite hateful speech, or trivialize serious current events. This includes asking people's opinions on specific ongoing wars, or asking if specific identities or groups are "valid." .

Polls fishing for people to agree with your unpopular opinion, such as "Who else thinks that pumpkin spice lattes suck?" Sorry, these just aren't fun. .

Polls speculating on other people’s personal lives. This includes questions like “Do you think [celebrity] is gay?”

"Off topic" topics

Media polls about general consumption and preferences, such as “Have you played this video game?" “Which movie in this franchise is your favorite?” “Which franchise is better?” "Did you like this musician's new album?" etc. There are a number of "Do you know this [song/game/movie/etc]" and otherwise media-focused poll blogs that are better avenues for this type of question. .

Personal/relationship polls that boil down to “Is this problematic?” such as age gap questions and "Am I The Asshole?"-style questions. .

Polls about very general, benign preferences, such as “Do you like this food?” or "What's your favorite animal?". This just doesn't fit the purpose of this blog. .

Joke/trick/meme polls, such as “Did you vote on this poll?” or “Vote for option 2." .

Polls about pronunciation of internet words and abbreviations. There are just too many ways to pronounce ouppy/pfp/etc and it's impossible to represent in a poll. In general, we'll only post pronunciation polls if there are very specifically 2 or 3 different ways that everybody pronounces the word. .

"Inside joke" polls and polls referencing media or similar that have no understandable meaning outside of that context, such as "What is the meaning of life? [lengthy Hitchhiker's Guide reference]" or "Pick a lyric from [band]." .

Hyperspecific polls, such as "Pick a book from my bookshelf" and "Do any of these fun facts about me apply to you?" Those are specific to you and should be on your blog! They're the most fun when they're personal.

You know, to some degree It saddens me that you might be leaving Tumblr due to the "inherent dangers of social media", but as someone who is aware that 1. My "relationship" to you is deeply parasocial, while it's not the fake relationships described in Antica et Nova, it does fall in that commodification of relationships that Byung-Chul Han warns in no things 2. I've been also trying to quit the phone a bit more, in part because sometimes the addiction just becomes too evident but also your post of how you read 18 books during lent. (As non fiction recs that might fit your current interest: Cal Newport)

Not super sure what the purpose of this ask is, but I wanted say that you're probably right about leaving (even if we aren't admitting that to ourselves rn) and that (if I leave before you do) your thoughts and insights will be missed (you have very interesting opinions). However this last few days have proven to me that real life (and my real life community) is a bit to precious to not be living in it fully

I don’t want to seem like I’m dismissing everything that’s ever happened on here as bad or unimportant. I don’t love the parasocial label; I think we’re given to one another in different ways, and that doesn’t mean these ways can’t have a profound effect on us. I deeply value the relationships I’ve built on here. if I stay on tumblr it will be because of the specific people whose lives I’ve become oddly intertwined with. I don’t want to miss out on that.

so I want to still be here!! the question is whether I can be here in a more limited way, or whether the totalizing, addictive tendency of social media is going to force me into an all-or-nothing choice. the author of Stolen Focus said that after his long disconnected retreat from phone and internet which inspired the book, one of the permanent changes he made is that he spends six (nonconsecutive) months of every year totally off social media. that solution doesn’t satisfy me; it seems like a binge followed by a detox rather than actually well-ordered consumption. but is well-ordered consumption of social media possible?? I don’t know!!!

and then I’m left with the question of how not the scrolling, but my own posting affects my thinking. four or five years ago I gave up tumblr for lent for the first time ever, and all of a sudden out of nowhere I came up with the plots to two or three novels, when I hadn’t had a non-fanfiction creative idea since I was a teenager. I’ve been working on one of those ideas ever since—and though I’ve stalled a few times, I came up with several mind-blowing new additions to the world-building and plot during this year’s fast. and this year I gave up tumblr and instagram for the full forty days of Lent, without checking in on Sundays and without writing the ideas for posts in my phone notes—and now, all of a sudden, I’m writing a theology book. I’m terribly afraid that when I’m in the mode of posting I’m breaking my thoughts off at the point when they’re most easily digestible and rebloggable, so that even when I want to write something long-form, I can’t. I’m programmed to write posts. and I love writing a good post! but I don’t know if it’s worth it if I can’t ever finish my novel, you know?? I don’t know if it’s worth it if it contributed to the mental burnout which made me drop out of my PhD program. that’s terrifying. I want my brain back.

and finally, exactly like you said, real life is too precious. I want to be making plans with people, and hanging out with my siblings, and going for walks with my husband. and when, God willing, my husband and I have kids, I want to be capable of giving them my full attention! tumblr is less insidious than most social medias out there. but you still can’t fill up your life with tumblr. it’s not solid enough. you’ll end up empty.

you better believe when the next season of The Bear or the next Taylor Swift album comes out I’m going to be logged in SEATED for everyone’s meta. that’s a guarantee. but I haven’t figured out yet what to do in the everyday. it’s hard. I’m struggling. I’m reading so much because it’s hard and I’m struggling.

"so what happened to the pizza tower discourse?" a summary of the current state of the pizza tower discourse as we understand it after asking that question ourself and scrolling through the tag for a few minutes trying to figure out what's up (i.e. definitely not comprehensive)

this post is for informational purposes only. you are the only person who can decide what you do. 1. the tribe cheese

an enemy in the game is a racial caricature of native americans. they do rain dances and throw tomahawks. this is a fairly major mechanic in at least one level. people in the tag are saying that mcpig plans to replace them, though we haven't seen a citation for this. (this is probably mainly because tumblr posts don't have citation requirements, but still a reason to file it under "things people have said" and not "confirmed true facts" for now.)

2. mr pinch

another enemy in the game has been called an antisemitic caricature. the counterargument is that he is supposed to be based on ebenezer scrooge and mr burns. the countercounterargument is that those characters are also antisemitic caricatures. mcpig may also be planning to replace him; some statements regarding replacing the tribe cheese were phrased ambiguously enough that they could also apply to him but we're not sure. and again, they weren't cited anyway.

3. the discord comments

in 2018, mcpig said some nasty stuff on discord. we can't find the original screenshots now but they include at least one use of the r slur. after this knowledge blew up on twitter, mcpig has stated that he doesn't stand by those statements and the jokes were "not funny". some people are mad that this does not constitute an explicit apology.

this sums up what we found after a few minutes of scrolling trying to figure out if there's an actual reason why the discourse just vanished from our dash after having been all-consuming for a few days. it's very possible i've missed something. it's also very possible there's citations somewhere confirming or debunking some of this. i'm not a pizza tower blog or a discourse blog so i'm not invested enough in this topic to dig any further at this time <.< so zero (0) promises as to updates.

Having read the thread, along with a number of other connected threads, there is no reason the believe AO3 is going to go down

(that's not to say you shouldn't back up your own fics, or save copies of other people's fics for personal use, it's always a good idea to have backups)

the linked thread is discussing institutional problems with OTW's Legal and Policy & Abuse committees (although the latter primarily in the ways the thread's author believes they are being negatively impacted by legal)

It's primarily a conversation about the OTW having structural problems and being slow to react/change when needed, but three accusations of specific breaches of the law which could get the OTW into trouble are made:

That the OTW does not retain works PAC identify as containing CSAM/CSEM for the legal minimum period of 90 days

That the OTW suspends rather than deletes the accounts of those identifies as being under 13 so that they can restore the account once the user is over the minimum user age, which is a breach of COPPA

Same as above, but this is a breach of GDPR

None of these could get AO3 taken down, and 2 of them are provably untrue

Systems have confirmed the first point is not true. While works are not retained on the archive for the 90 days, the archive keeps complete back-ups for longer than that, so the work can be restored if needed by the authorities. This is, as rahaeli points out, a pretty inefficient way of handling things, but being inefficient is not a breach of the law

Rahaeli corrects themself in their own thread when they realise that COPPA does not apply to the specific type of non-profit AO3 is, so that's moot

The GDPR point is slightly more complicated. I'm not a lawyer, but I work in the finance industry in the UK handling massive quanities of personal data, so I am required by law to be trained on GDPR.

Email addresses are not automatically personal data under GDPR. They can be, but only if they contain other personal information. So if your email is brony47@gmail, that's not personal data. If it's john.smith@company it is, because it contains your wallet name and employer. So, while it's fairly unlikely when dealing with AO3 accounts belonging to under 13s, especially as school issued emails are basically never wallet names because they just deal with too many people for that to be sustainable, it is technically possible that retaining this info is a breach of GDPR.

However, even if AO3 was found to have breached GDPR, that would not result in the website being taken down with no warning or fics being purged. That's not how any of this works.

AO3 would face fines (I don't actually know how those fines work for non-profits, since they're usually a % of annual turnover - I assume donations would be treated as turnover for the ICO's purposes, but I may be wrong about that).

It's possible that fine could be steep enough that the archive couldn't meet server costs and would ultimately need to shut down, but the ICO do not possess the ability to shut the site down, and AO3 owns its own servers so if the worst happened and the archive shut down, they would have plenty of time to warn people. It would not just vanish, that's not what the ICO does.

(The specific affected account would be need to be deleted, but since it would already be suspended and invisible to users, that would not affect any end-users)

(Also the entire process of it going through the ICO and being debated to get to the point of the fine would probably take at least a year, this is a massive pan-european beauracratic body, it is not famous for its efficiency)

None of this is me saying rahaeli doesn't have valid points, or that reform isn't needed, generally I agree that it is, and I think rahaeli's suggestions about what to change sound reasonable, although I'm not an expert and not on either of the affect teams, so that's just some rando's opinion.

But the this post is not about that, this post is about people worrying about the archive being taken down, and again, that is not what is going on here!

TLDR; back up fics if you want, but AO3 is not in legal trouble, and even if it was, the type of legal trouble being discussed would not result in the entire archive just going down without prior warning

Additionally, since a few people mentioned this in tags and reblogs, AO3 is set up in such a way that there is almost no risk of a griffindor's tower 'mod infighting tanks the website' type situation. No one committee has that power, and the OTW has lost its entire board before now and AO3 continuted to function. (That's actually part of the cause of the problems being discussed, because decentralised power makes it resistant to infighting, but the pay off is that it's slow to change, because it requires a lot of different officers and other volunteers to work together)

i try not to share kinda feelsy/personal stuff but i kinda wanted to address this one thing in regards to the term popular, its use today vs in the past, and how i relate to that term nowadays

ngl when i get @‘d as a popular i do sometimes have a lil heart attack bc when i’d randomly get @‘d back in the day it wasnt for nice things, but it felt nice to be included in something fun for everyone. To see yall use the term for nice things makes me happy.

Everyone’s experiences will always differ and some ppl will look at the term being used in a not so nice way or still be concerned about the use of it and thats okay they have a right to feel that way since it wasnt a very nice time and a lot of us were not nice. Something i’ve always wanted to address and apologize for and worse for just pushing it off as if i had not been part of the initial problem but i don’t really have a way to approach it other than this: I’ve grown. I’m not that person anymore and I no longer feel the way I felt about some of the ppl involved anymore. However that doesn’t mean there’s people who are not still hurt by things I’ve done, and I am truly sorry everything happened the way it did. Growing and learning is a part of life and I can only hope I can be given that chance.

CANON DIVERGENCE

I try to adhere to canon. However, I have my own headcanons, theories, and takes that make my Jin unique from canon. I also hate how Tekken 6 handled Jin’s character. He was uncharacteristically cruel, and his “plot” made little sense. It also defeats the original purpose of his character and why I love him so much. So while this blog still acknowledges 6, it was Devil Jin who started the war, and was in control of Jin’s body throughout all the events - Jin has NOTHING to do with it - Jin only gained strength and took back control near the very end, where he defeats Azazel. Thus, Jin’s own memories of 6, and the characters involved, are foggy or nonexistent.

Jin and Devil Jin are not the same person - Devil Jin isn’t just Jin, but he’s corrupted by the “devil gene.” In my depiction, Devil Jin is a separate entity who is parasitic and shares the same body as Jin.

Speaking of which - although this is, technically, a dual muse blog - if muse isn’t specified, then the default will always be Jin (as, he’s usually the one in control with the exception of TK6′s events) unless I feel the interaction fits Devil Jin or your muse has a more established relationship with Devil.

I don’t adopt movies (live action, OVA, or blood vengeance) the anime (bloodline) comics, or any adaptations in my canon. I only follow (most of) game canon, as trying to piece together the adaptations is too difficult as they’re very inconsistent with the games’ lore, and considered non-canon, too. However, I may cherry pick little things from adaptations if I see them fitting.

NSFW + Triggering content

Posts may contain some triggering content, frequent ones that’ll pop up are abuse/neglect, suicidal thoughts/ideation, and cannibalism may be one - even if Devil Jin isn’t a human, he still has a humanlike appearance. I try to tag all triggers. I refuse to write incest, or p*dophilia too. I will block you if you write these contents because they make me very uncomfortable.

Alas, I did not get to ask Misha a question! I was in line, but was about 4 people too late to get it in there for his Saturday panel. (I didn't even bother trying on Sunday, and allowed myself to get a li'l salty on main about how that went.) Ahead of Momento Con weekend, I'd kept up a bit on the outcomes of KCCC two weeks before, and word on the street was that everybody was still too scared to ask questions of a Destiel nature, due to... you know, everything about past conventions. So I'd crafted a Destiel-adjacent question that would leave him open to talk about it if he wanted, without too much railroading into the topic. Or at least, that's what I attempted. How successful it would have been will remain unseen! Here's what I jotted down in my notes app for it (and was still actively editing while in line for the mic):

Thank you for being here. Participating in the transformative nature of this fandom helped me to figure out who I really was, in my thirties. Thank you for encouraging all of us to be creative and – in your own words – use the show as a canvas onto which we paint the stories that are most meaningful to us. But anyway, you can watch/listen to the questions he was asked in this YouTube video of Misha's Saturday panel! There are timestamps linked in the description that jump straight to the meaty stuff. Personally, I love how he answered them. He was very conscious of how he phrased things, and deliberate about framing his own interpretation of the character as "in his own mind," leaving a purposeful negative space for people to layer in their own nuanced interpretations.

Aside from the Misha goodness, I also really enjoyed Mark Sheppard's panel on Sunday. On Saturday, he was dressed in his typical gruff, snarky attitude, but on Sunday he wore his heart on his sleeve and talked about why he does what he does at cons like this, told the story of how it went sideways on him once and how he's careful to not do that again, and had some sweet moments talking about the love of the fandom, and of course a minor civics lecture about how to be better to each other. I can't find a continuous video of the whole thing, but here are several that seem to capture most of it in order: one, two, three, four.

Overall, I very much enjoyed the con – my first non-Creation event (a couple more details here) – and am looking forward to going back next year!

How the fuck did I get so many likes!? Thank you to everyone who liked it or rebloggged. I want everyone to know that your are loved and accepted. Fuck what anyone tells you otherwise, they don’t know how you feel. Being anywhere on the gender spectrum, you are not “sick” or “ill”, that’s what you feel comfortable identifying as, then you are. You are loved and accepted.

- Percy’s a demiboy

- He uses they/he pronouns but mostly uses he.

- Sally is so supportive of him, and will easily switch pronouns. Paul is a little weary of it at first but after learning a lot more and slowly accepting it, he’s proud of Percy for expressing how he feels. Annabeth is also pretty supportive and loves him all the same. Everyone is camp loves him no matter what and accepts him.

- Their friends still love them. Once in a while Jason will slip up pronouns and being the extremely nice guy he is will apogizie so much thoughout the day. Like he will feel so bad all day, and Percy will be like “Dude it’s fine, you don’t do it on purpose”

- Nico never states he’s gay, he’ll just wait for someone to say something homophobic and be “Oh you think that about gay people, well bitch I’m gay”. Then he’ll make the person flustered and embarrassed and Nico will just walk away.

- Will loves him for it. He introduced Nico to She-Ra and at first Nico hated it but then he started to low-key like it. He heavily related to Catra, Nico and Will 1000% ship Catrdora. They also watched the Owl House and defently ship Lumity.

- Mr.D is fiercely protective of the trans campers. He dosen’t show it much but he will care about them so much. He will easily switch pronouns and call them by there preferred name, he’ll get them binders or make them feel more comfortable.

- Chrion is high-key one of the most accepting people ever. He will literally die his hair and tail rainbow, he wears rainbow clothes. He will literally organize small groups of demigods going to Pride togther, that way not many monsters attack and they can have more fun.

- Anyone with homophobic or transphobic parents, stay year-round.

- The rule used to be “two people of the opposite gender, can’t be alone in a cabin togther”, then Chiron changed it to “ two people can’t be alone in a cabin togther” to be more inclusive. Then some of the campers who are in a polyamous relationship are like “Ha we don’t have to follow the rule”. Chrion was like fuck it “anyone in a relationship can’t be alone in a cabin with there significant other/others.

- Conner has tried breaking this rule and sneaking into the Athena Cabin and has gotten caught several times by the harpies. Malcolm being the little smartass he is, stole Annabeth’s invisibility cap and successfully snuck into the Hermes cabin several times.

- Aries kids go to pride parades to support the LGBTQ campers and will curse out all the homophobes protesting.

- Hephuetus Cabin making weapons for the LGBTQ+ campers. Lesbians get swords, gays get glaudius, bisexual get battle axes, demisexuals get daggers, pansexuals get poleaxes, aro’s get longbows, non-binary’s get nunchucks, ace’s get maces, trans gets tridents, ect. (Pretty much that fanart but in the PJO world) They become honorary weapons and save them in case a homophobic and transphobic army comes to camp, they’ll be prepared.

- The Flower Crowns the Demeter Cabin made can never wither or die.

- During Pride Month, the Big House will put pride flags around the edge of the roof. The Iris cabin encourages all cabins so put some rainbow somewhere outside there cabin. Most people put flags but the one that takes the cake is the Hades Cabin. Apparently the night before June 1st, Nico di Angelo with the help of Will Solace painted the entire cabin rainbow. This kinda surprised everyone.

- Drew isn’t straight at all. She was really just a closeted lesbian who had so much internalized homophobia because she had a homophobic dad growing up and lived in a homophobic environment. After a while she slowly starts to accept that part of herself and comes out of the closet like literally.

- Drew waited one night after dinner to tell her Cabin, she went into the closet of the Aphrodite cabin, put on a lesbian flag as a cape and did her makeup the lesbian flag colors, and just came out of the closet. The campers were in shock but loved her all the same. Drew became so much more open and showed more of the real her.

- She ended up dating a water nymph and loves her so much. The nymph brought a more kinder side to her and Drew became so much kinder and everyone knew it was because of her girlfriend.

- Drew teaches trans girls how to do there makeup.

- Lavinia Asimov introduced her girlfriend Poison Oak to Pride. They went to the nearest parade by Camp Jupiter.

- Poison Oak is defiantly a cottage core lesbian, you can not change my mind. Lavinia just gives me the Lesbian Artist Vibe.

- Both of them are in the LGBTQ+ support group at Camp Jupiter with Hazel.

- Hazel and Lavinia went on a shopping trip to the nearest mall, they both got plain white Vans and decided to paint them. Lavinia painted them the lesbian flag colors, Hazel painted them the pansexual flag colors.

- In New Rome, they will have Pride Parades all June. They’ll schedule it and decorate the place rainbow. They’ll put a shop and put flags, pins and stuff like that. The LGBTQ+ campers in Camp Jupiter go.

- At the Waystation, Jo and Emmie decorate a lot. They will have Pride everywhere and support anyone. They practically adopted Leo, Calypso and Lit.

- Lit’s kinda confused but Jo and Emmie teach him. Emmie makes rainbow cookies and they all go to Pride.

- Artemis is pretty much all the hunters adoptive mom. She accepts if two hunters fall in love with each other and leave the hunt. She’s still on good terms with them.

Is there something wrong with cis people or there being cis characters? Trans people can still fit into these categories, and assuming trans people look different from cis people (whether in fiction or not) is transphobic, not characters fitting into the ‘cis’ category in your opinion. Once again, there is the assumption that the character was cis to begin with (unless the character has been stated on their wiki or in canon to be cis, to which most aren’t usually.

Yes, character exploration. It’s not cissexist nor transphobic. Whether the character was genderbent cis or trans, it’s not about their genetalia to ‘explore’ the character, but that’s just what you thought it was. Character exploration in this case as in “How will people treat them differently due to possible sexist/misogynist laws and/or character behavior that’s normally in males inside a female, or vice versa? How would people and the law treat this female character who’s shy, if she was a male? How would people and the law treat this male character who’s obnoxious and loud and determined, if he was a female?” Not “How different will this character’s life be because they have a penis or v/g?” You reducing character exploration down to genitalia is blatantly transphobic more so than you think, as well as just downright rude.

It does not erase non-binary nor intersex people, because you could throw them in if you really wanted to, but you’d also be the person who would call that act transphobic or ‘erasing their identity’. This is not a microaggression whatsoever, but rather a personal grudge based on assumptions you think are true, and treating your opinion as fact. That is all.

I don’t see or think why genderbending as a whole is transphobic the name should be changed though but genderbending as a whole is not bad sure they’re are issues but It is not transphobic.
