Congrats, it’s a 47,000 Acre Wildfire! This Gender Reveal Disaster Cake commemorates a 2017 gender-reveal disaster. From the CNN article in the third slide: “The expectant dad, 37, had packed the target with a highly explosive substance called Tannerite and shot it with a high-powered rifle....The target was supposed to burst pink or blue to reveal to attendees whether Dickey and his wife were expecting a boy or a girl.” And immediately started a brushfire that burned down 47,000 acres. Congrats, your baby’s gender is FIRE! 🔥 There are not one, but two cakes: the first cake is a gluten-free vegan spicy chocolate cake adapted from @minimalistbaker’s Gluten-Free Birthday Cake (Vegan) with Coconut Cream frosting. The second is a spicy version of @sprinklebakes Chocolate Cake (from the book Sprinklebakes) with Swiss Meringue Buttercream. The sugarwork for the flames is from the Freeform Lollipops from the same book. 🔥 ONLY YOU can prevent the gender binary (and forest fires). “Are these the scones from your book?” My parents were in town from Ohio last week, and I made the Apricot and Sage Cream Scones from The Corners of Their Mouth Issue 1 on their last day here. Not only did they recognize them, they loved them, and asked a lot of questions about scone making, ingredients and food chemistry. 🥰 I am often nervous about sharing my zines with my family and people who have known me since teenagerhood because a lot of my personal food essays have to do with recovery from an abusive relationship that they actually witnessed but didn’t know the full extent of.
