Artem arrives, two thermos of hot chocolate in hand.
“I hope you don’t mind I added some cinnamon, paprika, and added a protection spell. I uh have a nonspelled backup too if you’d prefer?”
"oh! that's- that's more than alright! I love cinnamon, you know?" Dai gestured vividly with their hands, wrists still bandaged.

In Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, if you timeout the midboss nonspells you can skip the midboss spellcard that follows them (see /post/149423712927/ for all occurences).
Usually when the timer reaches zero, the healthbar will not change dimensions. However, if you try to timeout Rumia's midboss nonspell on Hard/Lunatic, when the timer reaches zero, her healthbar will suddenly drop to the point where the spellcard would have started.
Tumblr media
Timeouting the nonspell on Easy/Normal will not make the healthbar drop, but there's also no spellcard on those difficulties. The healthbar drops only for Rumia on Hard/Lunatic. It doesn't act like this for Meiling or Sakuya.

touhou boss who isn't obeying the Spell Card Rules, so she only has nonspells.
... there's no way she's gonna end up with a happy ending.

Len'en 2 is kinda weird. The playable characters of the first game return, plus Kuroji who is a scumbag who will take any opportunity to wring people dry of their possessions and freedom.
The bosses are: A karakasa (regular stuff) A slug (alright) A light youkai who used to be a famous hero but is now sealed to stop them from using their full power because they're kinda dangerous. (sure) A debt collecting bird who got the sun to leave because it didn't want to pay back the money it owed them. Their wings are made up of four eyes, one of which belonged to one of the four sacred beasts each (you know, the steel tiger, fire bird, that turtle and the dragon) as payment for their debts (they also lent money to the four sacred beasts, naturally) (getting a bit weird now) A haniwa. (long before Touhou did it) A fragment of the yamata-no-orochi who has the ability to part the skies and wields the kusanagi under the name "Tasouken" and has an unhealthy affection for it, due to their nature as part of the orochi. Then as a second stage 6 boss you fight the Tasouken.
It also can't exhibit its full power, because its hilt, which was fashioned by the stage 5 haniwa character, is a bottle opener. That haniwa has a love for bottle openers. The Tasouken - the sword of kusanagi - currently exists as a bottle opener.
In the extra stage the light youkai shows up as a mid boss, is horribly drunk, uses the spellcard Blitz Spark, which is a master-spark style attack that looks like this

and ends up blasting a hole into the barrier that separates mugenri from the our world, which becomes relevant in the next game.
The EX boss is the main game's final boss' estranged sibling and is the hardest boss in the series because of their wiggly bullshit nonspells.

Cornwall's Random Card of the Day #777: Precognition
Tumblr media
Lucky 7s!
Precognition is a rare from Tempest. Oh boy, this card seems incredibly unfun to play against. Lemme tell you about a mechanic called Fateseal. In Future Sight, WotC was wanting to come up with a bunch of keyword mechanics that they MIGHT use in the future. One idea was "reverse Scry" which let you manipulate your opponents' decks. It went on like 2 cards and was never even really thought of to come back because...shocker...people like to play cards!
Magic already has enough problems with variance between drawing spells and nonspells when they need to by default, something which is kind of unfixable on the large scale, it really doesn't need a mechanic which lets your opponents ensure or even just improve the odds of blanking draws. There's a reason deck-smoothing mechanics tend to be more fun for everyone, people just like it when you're actually playing the game, not drawing a land, sighing, and passing the turn.

BAM, TD Extra Stage clear!!!! (and with commentary included in the CC, check it out!!)
This is the first Extra stage where I went out of my way to Practice. And I almost never practice a specific stage or spellcards. I just felt like I was SO close…… but, as with the rest of TD, this Extra stage is extremely punishing in terms of both resources and Power.
Honestly this boss isn't that hard, just kind of tricky in places……. fitting for a Tanuki, I guess lol. But man, there are a couple ball-busters in there. Wild Deserted Island is BRUTAL. And her survival spell is no joke either. Thank god Nue is very forgiving and so is the stage itself, plus Mamizou has some of the easiest nonspells I've seen from an Extra boss, only maybe matched by Flan, Ran, and Nue. (tbf though, I haven't even seen every Extra boss yet)
Anyways, I'm happy I finally got a clear!!! Not sure which one will be next. UFO? MS? PCB Phantasm? Or maybe I won't touch Extras for a while and focus on Hard and Lunatic. We'll see!

gaaaaaaah i really like iyozane but why must their boss fight curse every run i do
1cc no bomb runs: good luck have fun capping first nonspell, and penultimate, and final
1cc yes bomb runs: not as bad as no bomb but final can still take multiple bombs depending on character
scoring: have fun losing like 3 million points on non 3 because the waves didn't spawn near you. what's that? you got a good non 3? alright time to camp your position on final and drain your bomb stock before the spell times out

Sannyo's Flowers
You occasionally see art of Sannyo with flowers: [link to an example by Kajatony]
The reason for this is not only that Sannyo Komakusa is named after the Komakusa flower, but also that she named and themed her Spellcards after Japanese mountain flowers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mountain Sign "Heaven-Shaking Kumomagusa" / Mountain Apparition "Astonishing Kumomagusa" (depending on difficulty)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mountain Sign "Usuyukisou Shining with Bewitching Light" / Mountain Apparition "Usuyukisou of Thronging Crowds of Youma" (depending on difficulty)
And of course, her namesake
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mountain Flower "Komakusa of Massacre" / Mountain Flower "Mountain Queen of Massacre" ( depending on difficulty)
Even her nonSpells resemble flowers.
Tumblr media
Its extremely cute that instead of modeling them after smoke, or gambling, she chose some of her favorite mountain flowers. She has very unique tastes, especially the Usuyukisou which aren't quite conventionally beautiful but they definitely look like lasers with sunlight shining off of them. Though they certainly have their charm shining in the sunlight.
She actually has a few flowers in her den in Lotus Eaters as well
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We aren't likely to be seeing them in Lotus Eaters again since Sannyo can only keep them on the mountain, but it's really great we got to see them when we did. It's nice knowing she canonicaly takes care of some in addition to modeling her Spellcards after them.
Also last but not least, the Title Lotus Eaters gave her was.
Tumblr media
a very appropriate, and poetic title for her; and it explains why she loves tough mountain flowers so much. she's a bit of a mountain flower herself after all.

Yuyuko Saigyouji opening her fan.
In Perfect Cherry Blossom, she opens her fan during her second nonspell, but "loses" it in the fourth nonspell. She later opens it again after shooting the first wave of bullets during her 5th spellcard.
In Imperishable Night, she uses her fan in her Last Word. In Ten Desires she only uses her fan during the 4th spellcard, which exists only in Hard and Lunatic difficulties (and also the Overdrive variant from Spell Practice).
