A SHORT PRAYER TO FREYJA
She who weeps amber, She who weeps gold. May She walk with me, as my fate unfolds.
Freyja the loving, Freyja the wise, may She bless us, every sunrise.
She who is true strength, who beauty defines. May She be with us, by our sides.
-Velvet Rose
This is my prayer but feel free to reblog it and use it in your practice!

i find it fascinating how my perception of the gods have changed once i met them. both in looks and personality.
Freyja, related to beauty, love and lust, i believed would look young and very feminine. Yet, when presented with her, she was a gorgeous, mature woman with lines at her eyes and a towering figure. The realization that a goddess I acknowledge as being so gorgeous had wrinkles and strong facial features made me reconsider my own perceived “flaws” and standards of beauty. She was beautiful in her strength and wisdom and yet also in her divinity and confidence. I had forgotten a woman of extreme beauty was also a goddess of war. And in both being true, I found her to be the most powerful woman I know.
Seeing Hades, I believed he would be fearsome and cold. Yet, when I looked into his eyes, there was warmth. He had an appearance of a man in his 40s with long hair, the color of the night, and he had no resentment or even disdain. Only softness. I didn’t fear him nor did he try to have me do so. He was safe as he led me through the courtyard where we met. Where I thought he would be an imposing and cold-hearted figure, I found someone with such patience like a father-figure would have.
Apollo, whom I thought would be bubbly and funny from how I’ve seen others described him was indescribably elegant. He carried himself well. He was kind and patient. Where I thought I would find youthful naivety, I found charm and elegance. And he only asked to help me in my healing. Even when I thought I did not need him, he waited patiently until I could hear him properly. And no matter how long it took, he was still welcoming with a smile.
I truly believe everyone should have the opportunity of meeting their deities and finding how they appear to them. What they show themselves as is what you may need. I find it fascinating to see how others see them :) They love us very much.

A DEVOTIONAL TO FREYJA (full version).
Amber and gold, how will Your tears fall?
Sweetness and strength, how will Your voice call?
Mistress of Magick, Goddess of Love, I wish for You to be near.
Your blessings I treasure deep in my heart, with dreams of Sessrúmnir.
I devote myself to You, in every art piece I do, and every candle I light.
I pray that I would be more like You, each day and every night.
Hail Freyja, Hail the Vanadis, Hail the Lady, Hail the War Goddess.
Valfreyja, Syr, Gefn, and Heidr,
You make my days so much brighter!
Mistress of seidr, goddess of war,
Stronger than a thousand men,
Your blessings I treasure close to my heart, like the necklace brisingamen.
I devote myself to You, with every great thing I do,
And every word that I rhyme,
I want to honor You, I want to stay true,
To You who make the seas shine.
Hail Freyja, Hail the Vanadis, Hail the Lady, Hail the War Goddess.
(I am the original author of this devotional to Freyja, so feel free to share it but of course with credit!)

Is it true that Friday the 13th was a celebration for Freyja before the Christians started associating it with Satan?
So Friday the 13th wasn't really a thing until the 19th century, and it happened just because both Friday and 13 were considered unlucky.
So no.
Drawing Norse connections here is tenuous. There is a story involving Loki that some use to theorize as a reason that 13 might be unlucky -- but that's just a hypothesis, with no more weight than the one that suggests it's unlucky because of Judas being the 13th guest at the last supper.
Which considering how widespread the idea that the number 13 being unlucky is, the Norse origin seems even less likely. And Friday in English is named for Frigg, not Freyja. Some argue that they're the same goddess, but that's not commonly agreed on. In any case, Friday in other languages in cultures that also see Friday the 13th as unlucky have completely unrelated root words.
And frankly that's not even tackling the subject of what calendar pre-Christian Norse and Germanic tribes were using in the first place.
This is one of those "Neopagans want to feel persecuted" stories that's been around for a long time, but has less support than a a cooked spaghetti bridge.

Remember today and always that your gods love you.
Remember today and always that Odin and Loki know and share your truth.
Remember today and always that Thor and Freyja battle by your side.
Remember today and always that Tyr fights for your justice and rights.
Remember today and always that Lofn celebrates your joy.
Remember today and always that your gods love you, that you have nothing to apologize for, that you are not alone, and that we will prevail against evil and cowardice.
